Being a professional golfer is a tough way to make a living. Take last week at The Player's Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Phenom Jordan Spieth quadrupled bogeyed the 18th hole on Sunday — his final hole of the tourney — and the blunder cost him $103,242.86.
But Professional Golfers Association player Lucas Glover had an even worse tournament. He started out great, shooting 68 on Thursday, and followed that with a one-under-par 71 on Saturday. But he shot a whopping 78 on Saturday, with six bogies on the back nine, and was cut before the final day. Still, he pulled in $21,340, not bad for three days' work.
His wife didn't think so. When Glover returned to the home he had rented with his wife, Krista, and their two young children, she lit into him, according to police reports. She called him a "loser" and a "p***y" before physically attacking him, police said.
Lucas told deputies how “when he plays a bad round of golf, Krista proceeds to start an altercation with him and telling him how he is a loser and a [p***y], how he needs to fire everyone, and how he’d better win or her and the kids would leave him and he would never see the kids again,” the police report said, according to the Daily Mail.
Saturday night, however, Lucas allegedly told deputies he was tired of all the altercations with his wife and couldn't take it anymore. At the same time, he tried to dissuade deputies from arresting Krista and claimed there was no physical altercation.
The 38-year-old golfer, best known for his 2009 win at the U.S. Open and the 2011 Wells Fargo Open, did tell authorities that his wife had been drinking all day.
Deputies noted in their reports there were fresh lacerations to Lucas' right arm and "multiple lacerations" to both his 62-year-old mother Hershey Glover's arms as well as blood on her clothes. The deputies photographed the injuries.
Krista, though, normally loves Saturday nights.
But Krista, 36, was arrested late last Saturday night by St. Johns County Sheriff's deputies.
And it all got worse.
The deputies wrote in their report she resisted them and refused to get into the back seat of a squad car by trying "to tense her body and blocking herself from sitting down in the car."
She allegedly tried to wrap her legs and feet around the frame of the open car door, but several deputies pulled and pushed until she got in.
Once inside, Krista allegedly damaged the car by kicking the door.
At one point during the transport to jail, two deputies tried to loosen her handcuffs and she tried to get away. It took both lawmen to re-handcuff her.
"Wait till the tour (PGA) hears about this," she yelled, according to the report. "You will lose your job. This is why cops get shot in the face. Wait till I talk with the judge, you will be f***ng fired over this."
Lucas took to Twitter to offer an explanation.
It's not like Lucas, 38, hasn't pulled his weight. He's won more than $20 million on the PGA Tour.
So next time you think you'd love to get paid for hitting a little white ball around a lush green golf course and make millions of dollars, just remember: Those guys have problems, too.
