On Thursday, Broward County Sheriff's Office released the security footage from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on February 14 that shows Deputy Scot Peterson's actions during the shooting.
The video shows Peterson and another staff member at the school rushing toward the building in a golf cart. Once he arrives, he pulls his pistol out and takes up a position outside the building.
During much of a significant portion of the shooting, a light pole blocks Peterson from the camera although parts of him can occasionally be seen.
The sheriff’s office released this statement:
The video speaks for itself. His [Peterson’s] actions were enough to warrant an internal affairs investigation, as requested by Sheriff Scott Israel on Feb. 21. After being suspended without pay, Peterson chose to resign and immediately retired rather than face possible termination.
