In a rather heartbreaking interview published Wednesday, the Dallas Morning News spoke with the mother of porn star Stormy Daniels (real name Stephanie Gregory Clifford) who is currently locked in a legal battle with President Trump and his lawyers over a $130,000 non-disclosure agreement involving Daniels' alleged affair with Trump over a decade ago.
During the discussion, Daniels' mother, Sheila Gregory, made clear that she does not share her daughter's opinions about Trump.
"If Mr. Trump runs four more times, I would vote for him every time," said Gregory. "I like him. I like the way he handles things. It's time this country is put back where it belongs — taking care of the people here instead of the people who don't belong here."
Gregory, 64, who predicts she doesn't have long to live and was hooked to an oxygen machine during the interview, told the outlet that she hasn't spoken to her daughter in a dozen years, which the outlet notes is "around the time of the Trump encounter, which they've never discussed."
Gregory described her daughter's decision to become a porn star as "deeply" hurtful. "It hurts me deeply," she said. "My friends all say the same thing: 'I can't believe that is the same sweet child — you took such good care of her.' I say, 'How do you think I feel?'"
She said that she hopes to be reunited with her estranged daughter, though Daniels' attorney Michael Avenatti has dismissed reports that Gregory has tried to contact her as "fake news."
The Stormy Daniels saga has ratcheted up in the last two months, with the porn star landing some high-profile appearances and interviews, including a raunchy evening with committed Trump critic late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and a recent, as of yet unaired interview with Anderson Cooper for "60 Minutes." Though Daniels has issued statements publicly denying any sexual relationship with Trump, she continues to threaten to reveal intimate details about the alleged affair and recently offered to pay Trump back the $130,000 to be able to tell the story.
In response to Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen recently filing a restraining order against her for violation of the NDA, Daniels has filed a lawsuit alleging that Cohen was illegally attempting to "intimidate" and silence her.
