On Thursday, Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera was featured as a guest on Sean Hannity’s radio show. During his segment, Rivera praised Hannity, saying that if he existed during the 1970s, Nixon wouldn’t have had to resign. Additionally, he called for the unshackling of Trump:
RIVERA: I think, Sean — first of all, as I have said before, Nixon never would have been forced to resign if you existed in your current state back in 1972, ‘73, ‘74.
HANNITY: Geraldo, I was literally 11 years old.
RIVERA: I know. It’s too bad for Nixon because nobody like you existed then. I say that because I believe that our prime responsibility now is to unshackle the 45th President of the United States; is to rid Donald Trump of the [burden of the] distraction. ...
HANNITY: But aren’t you assuming they’ll stop? What indication is there that they’ll — they’re never gonna stop trying to tear this man down.
RIVERA: Because they are a toothless tiger now. Once [now] is exposed that the dossier was bought and paid for, that it was the fake basis for the FISA warrant — everything from there forward is invalid, I would submit as a constitutional lawyer. Everything from the fake FISA warrant, or the cancerous FISA warrant, forward is absolutely inadmissible, irrelevant; it should be thrown out. I want the president first to get a note from Mueller. I don’t — the memo, all that stuff is BS. All I want now is for him, Donald Trump, to be free of this, to go on with his agenda — and I’ll fight with him on specifics on the agenda, with DACA and etcetera.
But I think that what we have seen is a president who has been unfairly attacked for a year with a premier law enforcement agency, and some high-flying, long-standing civil servants who have taken it upon themselves to attack a man unfairly, and have crippled this administration. Whatever is done is done despite them.
I look forward. I look to 2018, 2019, 2020 and forward. If we go back, the danger is that we will be in this [morass] ... Trey Gowdy announcing he’s not running for office. Why? Because the Benghazi thing weighed him down until it drowned his political ambitions. I don’t want the Republicans to [look] back, I want them to look forward.
