On Wednesday, Bernie Sanders surrogate and CNN commentator and columnist Jonathan Tasini celebrated the crash of an Amtrak train carrying Republican lawmakers in a vile tweet.

Captioning a tweet from Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) announcing his retirement from Congress, Tasini wrote: "Wow, [between] train full of Goopers hitting truck and this, God is working hard today to clean up the stink. Thank her."

As reported by Fox 5, an Amtrak train collided with a dump truck in Charlottesville, Virginia, resulting in one confirmed death and one person suffering from serious injuries. Unfortunately for sick Tasini, no GOP lawmakers were killed or seriously injured. Those who were though, we can assume, would just be collateral damage in the Bernie Sanders surrogate's fever dream of dead Republicans.

Tasini quickly issued an "apology" and deleted the controversial tweet after getting hit with an onslaught of negative reactions.

"Apologies people," he wrote. "It was poked out in midst of convo w 2 colleagues on the deep racism/hypocrisy/criminality promoted by GOP or as GOPer Amanda Carpenter says, gaslighting of America."

He also posted a subsequent tweet saying CNN does not pay him for his appearances on the network.

Tasini's most recent column for CNN was published earlier this month.
