One of the neo-Nazis who runs the white supremacist Daily Stormer website and who recently said Jewish children "deserve to die," may have some problems with his neo-Nazi friends for one salient reason, as his mother has confessed: he has Jewish relatives on “both sides of his family.”
Speaking to Newsweek about her son, Andrew “Weev” Auernheimer, who lives in Ukraine and supervises the technical side of Daily Stormer with editor Andrew Anglin, Alyse Auernheimer said she and her son have been estranged for over ten years, adding, “He doesn’t like us,” pointing out that her son’s family includes a “large, mixed-race” group with Native American heritage, and he definitely has Jewish lineage “on both sides of his family.”
Here’s how evil Auernheimer’s rhetoric has been: after the Charottesville, Virginia protests last August at which an alleged white nationalist allegedly killed protester Heather Heyer, he appeared on the podcast Radical Agenda, hosted by Christopher Cantwell, a white nationalist who is under house arrest for allegedly using tear gas and pepper spray at the Charlottesville rally.
After Charlottesville, the Daily Stormer had to look for places on the internet where it could appear, as it was shunned, losing domains where it could be found. Auernheimer stated, "Someone has to step in. If you don’t let us dissent peacefully, then our only option is to murder you. To kill your children. To kill your whole families. There is only one thing absent free speech that we can do to express our dissent and that’s to slaughter you like dogs, and you’re gonna have it coming and your children will deserve to die.”
Cantwell tried to mitigate the rhetoric, saying that killing Jews “is certainly an undesirable option I’ll state for the FBI agents and prosecutors who are listening to this show.”
Auernheimer, undeterred, continued, “We have been very, very patient. What can we do if we can’t even post a n----r joke or a Jewish joke on the Internet? There’s only one thing left and maybe they should be very, very wary of what they’re asking to have happen to them, if they won’t let us have that.” He added later that revenge should be centered on “The top class [of Jews]. The most Jewish Jews … Nobody has gone after these kinds of Jews.”
Auernheimer’s Jewish heritage was first reported by Gawker in 2012, though Auernheimer denied the report. Adrian Chen, the author of the story, told Newsweek that the infamous troll volunteered the information about his Jewish ancestry during an interview.
Daily Stormer readers have allegedly included Dylann Roof, who murdered nine black churchgoers in Charleston in 2015 and William Edward Atchison, who killed two students at his New Mexico high school in 2016.
Auernheimer’s family being Jewish may pose a problem for him, according to Matthew Heimbach of the Traditionalist Worker Party, a white nationalist group. He asserted, “Jews cannot be part of the white nationalist movement, just as a white man can’t be a part of a black-nationalist group like the Nation of Islam.” He told Newsweek that Auernheimer’s family being Jewish on both sides would be “something interesting to a lot of people.”
