Democrats Use Trump Impeachment Promise To Raise Funds

Earlier this month, six House Democrats introduced five articles of impeachment against President Trump for violating the Constitution.

They said Trump obstructed justice when he fired former FBI Director James Comey and has undermined two of America's key institutions — the courts and the press — in dangerous ways.

“Given the magnitude of the constitutional crisis, there’s no reason for delay,” said Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), the sponsor of the resolution.

Of course, there will never be a vote on the matter, as Republicans control both the House and the Senate. But that hasn't stopped Democrats from trying to raise cash over the preposterous idea.

On Sunday, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) sent out a fundraising plea that touts the impeachment of Trump.

"According to a recent poll, nearly 50 percent of Americans already support impeaching President Trump," the email said. "They have plenty of reasons—whether it's his firing of the FBI Director and acting Attorney General, his attacks on the courts, or Trump's blatant corruption and conflicts of interest."

"That's why we're doing everything we can to fight back, making sure Democrats win in legislative elections nationwide to create a firewall in the states against his devastating agenda."

The email ends by directing recipients to a fundraising page for the DLCC, which focuses on electing Democrats at the state level.

The push for impeachment started even before Trump took office on January 20, 2017. Hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer is spending $10 million on a national ad campaign calling for Trump’s impeachment. “Like you, I’m a citizen who knows it’s up to us to do something,” Steyer says in one ad.

"Donald Trump has brought us to the brink of nuclear war, obstructed justice, and taken money from foreign governments. We need to impeach this dangerous president. Sign on now," says his website, NeedToImpeach.com. The site boasts of nearly 3 million signatures.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) has also been raising funds calling for impeachment. And she does it everywhere!

The California congresswoman delivered a eulogy for comedian and activist Dick Gregory on Saturday. While all the other speakers focused on Gregory's life, Waters went on an anti-Trump rant — and then called for his impeachment.

“I’m gonna say ‘Impeach 45 everyday,’ ‘Impeach 45 everyday,’ ‘Impeach 45 everyday,'” she said during the eulogy.
