BuzzFeed's Objectivity: 'Fact' That Trump is 'Mendacious Racist'

BuzzFeed’s Editor-in Chief, Ben Smith, released an internal memo today approving descriptions of Donald Trump as a “mendacious racist” by his staff on social media. Despite the company’s official policy that its staff not openly portray themselves as “political partisans,” Smith said that it is “entirely fair to call him a mendacious racist.”

Smith stated that his staff have “clearly and aggressively” reported on Trump’s “overtly anti-Muslim campaign,” and that “BuzzFeed news’s reporting is rooted in facts, not opinion.” He did warn his staff to not attribute the “facts” of what he described as Trump’s political disposition to all Republicans and conservatives, pointing out that Cheney had recently come out against Trump’s proposal for a “complete shutdown” of Muslim entry to the U.S.

BuzzFeed is committed to maintaining a pretense of objectivity, despite some of its staffers openly expressing support for “gun control” following mass shootings.

In June, Smith described “same-sex marriage” as a “singular issue” on which “objective journalism” was required to support. He implied that support of “same-sex marriage” was akin to opposition to racism. The website also altered its logo to reflect the "Gay Pride Flag."

Last Saturday, senior writer McKay Coppins essentially admitted his desire to “stop Trump.” In February. Coppins wrote a hit-piece of Trump after being invited to follow the real estate mogul for a couple of days following him. He described it as a “fake campaign.”

In August NBCUniversal invested $250 million in BuzzFeed. The website garners 1.5 billion page views per month. Earlier this year, the company was valued at $850 million by Andreessen Horowitz, a venture capital firm in Silicon Valley.

Below is a sample of BuzzFeed's reporters' political neutrality towards Trump.
