<a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/wyoming" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wyoming</a> lawmakers introduced a resolution to ban new <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/electric-vehicles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">electric car</a> sales in the state by 2035.
The <a href="https://wyoleg.gov/Legislation/2023/SJ0004" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joint resolution</a> argues that the “oil and gas industry in Wyoming has created countless jobs” and says internal combustion vehicles have “enabled the state&#8217;s industries and businesses to engage in commerce and transport goods and resources more efficiently throughout the country” since their invention. Environmental concerns regarding the procurement of minerals for vehicle batteries are another primary concern of the resolution.
“The expansion of electric vehicle charging stations in Wyoming and throughout the country necessary to support more electric vehicles will require massive amounts of new power generation in order to sustain the misadventure of electric vehicles,” the resolution continues. “The proliferation of electric vehicles at the expense of gas-powered vehicles will have deleterious impacts on Wyoming&#8217;s communities and will be detrimental to Wyoming&#8217;s economy and the ability for the country to efficiently engage in commerce.”
State Sen. Ed Cooper (R-WY), a sponsor of the resolution, said in an <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/3816093-wyoming-lawmakers-say-they-got-what-they-wanted-with-proposal-to-ban-evs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with The Hill that the proposal was intended to start a nationwide conversation about the absurdity of phasing out gas-powered cars and clarified that he does not support an actual ban on electric alternatives. “I think the thought of an electric vehicle ban is truly completely ludicrous, but it’s no more ludicrous than a ban on gasoline powered vehicles,” he told the outlet.
California, Massachusetts, Washington, and Virginia are following <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/california-expected-to-ban-sale-of-new-gas-cars" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new rules</a> from the California Air Resources Board requiring 35% of new vehicles to produce zero emissions by 2026, a standard that will progressively rise to 100% by 2035. The decision came days before a heatwave forced officials in California to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/california-asks-residents-to-avoid-charging-electric-vehicles-due-to-blackout-risk-days-after-unveiling-new-gas-car-ban" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ask</a> residents to refrain from charging their electric vehicles in the interest of protecting the state’s power grid.
Experts have warned that the California power system will require significant upgrades before a rapid transition away from internal combustion vehicles occurs.
“Today, most people charge their electric cars when they come home in the evening,” according to a <a href="https://www.ece.cornell.edu/spotlights/prepare-grid-now-power-electric-vehicles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Cornell University. “If left unmanaged, the power demanded from many electric vehicles charging simultaneously in the evening will amplify existing peak loads, potentially outstripping the grid’s current capacity to meet demand.”
The Wyoming resolution also noted that “the batteries used in electric vehicles contain critical minerals whose domestic supply is limited and at risk for disruption.”
China controls some 97% of rare earth element production, according to a <a href="https://www.fpri.org/article/2020/10/chinas-monopoly-on-rare-earth-elements-and-why-we-should-care/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from the Foreign Policy Research Institute, presenting serious national security concerns as policymakers advocate for increased reliance on electric vehicles. China also accounts for 70% of global electric vehicle battery production capacity, according to a <a href="https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/R/R47227" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from the Congressional Research Service, which noted that the United States is “heavily dependent” on mineral imports.
Biden administration officials are nevertheless encouraging a nationwide transition away from internal combustion vehicles. The White House has <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/12/13/fact-sheet-the-biden-harris-electric-vehicle-charging-action-plan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">set</a> the “ambitious target” of ensuring that electric vehicles constitute 50% of car sales in the United States by 2030.
The recent Inflation Reduction Act accordingly greenlit electric vehicle tax credits of $7,500 for new cars and $4,000 for used cars, as well as 30% tax credits for home solar energy systems, according to a <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/08/16/fact-sheet-how-the-inflation-reduction-act-builds-a-better-future-for-young-americans/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fact sheet</a>. The White House has established the goal of procuring only 100% zero-emission light-duty vehicles by 2027 and will extend the same standard to all vehicles in the federal fleet by 2035, according to another <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/06/09/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-proposes-new-standards-for-national-electric-vehicle-charging-network/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">document</a> from the White House.

The Wyoming attorney earned 69.99% of the state&#8217;s votes with an estimated 91% of the votes in, <a href="https://results.decisiondeskhq.com/national/2022-house">according to</a> Decision Desk. Democrat Lynnette GreyBull held 24.67% of the vote.
Wyoming&#8217;s two GOP senators celebrated Hageman&#8217;s win in a joint <a href="https://www.barrasso.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/news-releases?ID=A04E9899-8590-49DE-8696-FCBB8F3CF18F">statement</a>.
&#8220;Congratulations to Harriet Hageman on her decisive victory tonight,&#8221; Sen. John Barrasso said. &#8220;I look forward to working side by side with Harriet along with Senator Lummis for Wyoming. Together, we will be a reliable, conservative and effective team. We will focus on issues that matter most to the people of Wyoming: unleashing American energy, fighting inflation, securing our border and cutting wasteful Washington spending.&#8221;
Sen. Cynthia Lummis also heralded Hageman&#8217;s victory.
&#8220;Harriet Hageman has spent a lifetime defending Wyoming’s natural resources while championing our people, businesses and rural way of life, and I am pleased she will be taking this experience and commitment to Wyoming to Congress,&#8221; Lummis said. &#8220;She is the conservative fighter our state needs in the U.S. House of Representatives and will be an excellent teammate for Senator Barrasso and I in Washington.&#8221;
Hageman previously ran for governor in 2018, losing to GOP Gov. Mark Gordon in the primary. She returned for a shot at the state&#8217;s only House seat with the backing of multiple Republican leaders, including an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, who sought to see Cheney&#8217;s time in Congress end.
Cheney voted to impeach Trump following the events of January 6, 2021. She has also served as one of only two Republicans on the House committee to investigate January 6.
The Wyoming congresswoman was later censured by her own state&#8217;s Republican Party, which backed Hageman in the August primary. Hageman went on to defeat Cheney.
Cheney later chose to endorse multiple Democrats in the days ahead of the midterm elections.
The congresswoman expressed her public endorsement of Michigan Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin in her re-election campaign against a Republican opponent just days ahead of the midterm elections. She also said she would not vote for Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance if she lived in Ohio.
Cheney’s political action group, The Great Task, also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liz-cheney-backs-another-democrat-says-she-would-not-vote-for-ohios-j-d-vance-over-tim-ryan">announced</a> plans to spend $500,000 on airtime to urge Arizona voters to oppose GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and Secretary of State candidate Mark Finchem.

Video footage from a Whole Foods store in Wyoming shows the last moments <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/gabby-petito" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gabby Petito</a> was ever seen alive.
Twenty-three-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/brian-laundrie" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brian Laundrie</a> confessed in a notebook before killing himself that he strangled his girlfriend, 22-year-old Petito, to death during the couple&#8217;s cross-country van trip.
The video, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/gabby-petito-brian-laundrie-bombshell-video-emerges-revealing-hours-before-murder" target="_blank" rel="noopener">obtained</a> exclusively by Fox News Digital, shows Petito and Laundrie shopping together on August 27, 2021, at a Whole Foods in Jackson, Wyoming. Laundrie is wearing a hat and sunglasses, and Petito has her arms crossed at times while browsing the store.
The pair would reportedly leave the store and drive to the campsite where Petito was strangled.
The footage could be from the same day Petito was killed, Fox News noted, citing an autopsy timeline and a civil lawsuit filed by Petito&#8217;s parents, which dates their daughter&#8217;s murder as August 27, 2021.

An autopsy in November revealed that Laundrie <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/just-in-autopsy-reveals-brian-laundrie-cause-of-death-as-suicide" target="_blank" rel="noopener">committed suicide</a> by shooting himself in the head.
The FBI said last October that a recovered notebook from Laundrie included a confession from the 23-year-old that he murdered Petito.
“I ended her life,” he wrote, according to <a href="https://static.foxnews.com/foxnews.com/content/uploads/2022/06/Gabby-note-better.pdf">a copy</a> of the notebook <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/gabby-petito-murder-brian-laundries-notebook-confession-revealed">exclusively</a> provided to Fox News. “I thought it was merciful, that it is what she wanted, but I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked. I was in shock.”
Laundrie went on to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-ended-her-life-heres-what-brian-laundrie-wrote-in-his-notebook-before-he-killed-himself" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claim</a> that Petito had injured herself in a fall while they were visiting Wyoming and that he killed her to take “away her pain.”
“Rushing back to our car trying to cross the streams of spread creek before it got too dark to see, [too] cold. I hear a splash and a scream,” Laundrie wrote, adding that he carried her as far as he could but had to stop to make a fire to keep them warm when he couldn’t make it back to the couple’s van.
He claimed Petito “had a small bump on her forehead that eventually got larger,” and that she “continually made sounds of pain, laying next to her she said little lapsing between violent shakes, gasping in pain, begging for an end to her pain.”
Laundrie also referred to Petito’s death as his “mistake” and insisted that he was not ending his life “because of a fear of punishment but rather because I can&#8217;t stand to live another day without her.”

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels visited Kenosha on Tuesday, two years after the community was hit by several days of rioting after the shooting of Jacob Blake, who was armed with a knife, by police. Michels criticized incumbent Democrat Governor Tony Evers for his response to the violence, saying that he did not respond strongly enough and that Evers was critical of the police following the shooting. For days, the city was rocked by violence at night as businesses were burned and looted and rioters clashed in the streets.
Michels, who has made law and order a key plank of his platform, also received the endorsement of the Kenosha Professional Police Association.
“The men and women of law enforcement in Kenosha and across Wisconsin should know that I appreciate their dedication and support their commitment to keeping the public safe,” Michels <a href="https://www.wispolitics.com/2022/michels-campaign-kenosha-professional-police-association-board-of-directors-endorses-michels-for-governor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “Being a police officer is an honorable calling and when I am Governor I will help with police departments&#8217; recruitment and retention efforts across the state.”
Michels was joined by Representative Bryan Steil (R-WI) and Attorney General candidate Eric Toney.
Wisconsin Democratic Senate Candidate Hit Over Lingerie, Ties To Far-Left Party
Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes has <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mandela-barnes-ties-lingerie-party-barring-ratchets-haunt-wisconsin-senate-bid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faced</a> criticism in recent days for his apparent involvement with a 2009 &#8220;Pretty In Pink A Vicky Secret Affair&#8221; lingerie party. Barnes was questioned about his listing as co-host of the lingerie party that banned &#8220;ratchet&#8221; women from attending when he ran for lieutenant governor in 2018. Alaska’s Ranked-Choice System Put To The Test
Alaskans <a href="https://alaskapublic.org/2022/08/23/peltola-gains-in-alaskas-updated-special-us-house-election-results/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continue</a> to await the final outcome of the state&#8217;s special election for the House. Democrat Mary Peltola ranked first with 38.9% of the vote, with former Republican Governor Sarah Palin second at 31.4%, and fellow Republican Nick Begich in third at 28.2%.
The new ranked-choice system will rely on a tally of second-place votes to help determine the winner, which will be known by August 31. Regardless of the outcome, the winner will face another round in November as the top candidates face off again for the regular election.

After Representative Liz Cheney&#8217;s (R-WY) primary defeat to newcomer Harriet Hageman, the GOP is moving ahead with a <a href="https://www.wyomingpublicmedia.org/tribal-news/2022-08-16/democrat-against-hageman-says-it-will-be-a-david-and-goliath-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">heavy advantage</a> over Democrat challenger Lynette Greybull, who took her primary with over 62% of the vote.
Despite the defeat, Cheney continues to speculate regarding a future presidential run, saying she&#8217;ll decide in a few weeks as she finishes out her term while serving on the House select committee to investigate the events of January 6, 2021.

Republican Oregon gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan received an endorsement from the Oregon Farm Bureau.
“Agriculture is an important part of our state’s history, culture, and economy,” Drazan said. “I am proud to stand with our family farmers and ranchers to protect them from harmful policies coming out of Salem and I look forward to the day when my administration can continue working with the industry to help them grow and thrive.”

In fact, they’ve made things worse.”
Unaffiliated Oregon Gubernatorial Candidate Doesn’t Turn Over Tax Returns
Democrat Tina Kotek and Republican Christine Drazan reportedly turned over their tax returns, but <a href="https://www.wweek.com/news/2022/08/17/two-candidates-for-governor-turn-over-their-tax-returns-betsy-johnson-declines/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unaffiliated</a> candidate Betsy Johnson declined to do so after being asked by the outlet Willamette Week.
“Betsy has always filled out the required financial disclosure forms to the Legislature and will continue to do so as governor,” Johnson campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Sitton said. “That is the sum total of the public’s interest. Betsy believes that whether you are voting for governor or running for governor, you continue to have a constitutional right to privacy, which most people value.”

The monkeypox virus has now reached all 50 states after Wyoming reported its first positive case on Monday.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) provided the information in its most recent <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/response/2022/us-map.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">update</a>.
“Because monkeypox spreads through close, intimate contact we do not believe the risk for the virus is now a higher concern for the local community or for most people in Wyoming,” Alexia Harrist, state health officer and state epidemiologist with the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) said in a <a href="https://health.wyo.gov/wyomings-first-monkeypox-case-identified/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> on Monday. “Monkeypox does not spread easily like familiar viruses such as influenza or COVID-19.”
The state is currently offering the monkeypox vaccine for eligible recipients, according to the statement.
As of August 22, a total of 15,433 confirmed cases of monkeypox/orthopoxvirus have been <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/response/2022/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recorded</a> by the CDC, though zero deaths have been confirmed. New York leads among states with 2,910 cases, followed by California with 2,663 cases.
Globally, more than 42,000 cases have been reported, with the U.S. having the most cases, followed by Spain at 6,119 cases. No other nation has currently reported more than 3,500 cases.
The Department of Human and Health Services (DHS) <a href="https://aspr.hhs.gov/legal/PHE/Pages/monkeypox-4Aug22.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> monkeypox a public health emergency on August 4.
&#8220;In light of evolving circumstances on the ground, I am declaring a public health emergency on #monkeypox,&#8221; DHS Secretary Xavier Becerra wrote. &#8220;We are prepared to take our response to the next level in addressing this virus. On Thursday, the White House released a <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/08/18/fact-sheet-white-house-announces-new-actions-to-combat-monkeypox-outbreak/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fact sheet</a> to announce new actions to combat the monkeypox outbreak. The actions include making 1.8 million vaccine doses available.
President Joe Biden also <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/08/02/president-biden-announces-team-to-lead-monkeypox-response/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> new leadership to oversee the nation&#8217;s monkeypox response earlier this month. The president named FEMA’s Robert Fenton as the White House national monkeypox response coordinator and Dr. Demetre Daskalakis as the White House national monkeypox response deputy coordinator.
The first case of monkeypox was confirmed in the U.S. on May 18, according to the announcement.
&#8220;Over the coming weeks, under the leadership of Fenton and Daskalakis, the Administration will advance and accelerate the United States’ monkeypox response to mitigate the spread of the virus, protect individuals most at risk of contracting the virus, and care for those who have been afflicted with it,&#8221; the White House <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/08/02/president-biden-announces-team-to-lead-monkeypox-response/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> read.
According to the CDC, monkeypox can <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/transmission.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spread</a> to anyone through direct contact with monkeypox rash, scabs, or body fluids from a person with monkeypox, touching objects, fabrics, and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox, or contact with respiratory secretions. &#8220;This direct contact can happen during intimate contact,&#8221; the CDC adds.
The illness generally lasts two to four weeks and is rarely fatal, according to the CDC&#8217;s description. Monkeypox can also be spread from animals, it added.

The left quickly turned on recently-ousted Republican Congresswoman <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/liz-cheney-says-shell-support-dems-in-races-against-some-republicans/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Liz Cheney</a> (WY) after her reelection bid failed to make it past the Republican primary last week.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) said on Sunday that she will support the opponents of GOP candidates whom she deems &#8220;election deniers.&#8221;
Cheney shared the comments Sunday during an appearance on ABC&#8217;s &#8220;This Week.&#8221;
“I’m going to be very focused on working to ensure that we do everything we can not to elect election deniers,” she said during the interview.
“We’ve got election deniers that have been nominated for really important positions all across the country,” she said. “I’m going to work against those people. I’m going to work to support their opponents.”

The remarks come after Cheney suffered a landslide loss in last week&#8217;s Wyoming GOP primary on Tuesday. Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman defeated her.
Hageman more than doubled Cheney’s totals in the Republican primary battle. With 99% of the vote reported, Hageman took 66.3% of the votes to Cheney’s 28.9%.
“Wyoming has spoken on behalf of everyone all across this great country who believes in the American dream, who believes in liberty, and who recognizes that our natural rights – the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, equal protection and due process, come from God, they do not come from the Government,” Hageman said in a <a href="https://www.hagemanforwyoming.com/post/harriet-hageman-wins-big-in-wyoming-gop-primary" target="_blank" rel="noopener">victory speech</a> on Tuesday night. “Wyoming has spoken on behalf of everyone who understands that our government is a government of, by and for the people.”
Cheney&#8217;s latest words seem to show she remains defiant in her quest against former President Donald Trump. Though rejected by voters in her own state, a left-leaning panel on ABC&#8217;s &#8220;This Week&#8221; offered words of praise.

On Wednesday morning after her primary loss, Cheney hinted that she might be considering a future presidential run.
“I will be doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office,” Cheney <a href="https://twitter.com/TODAYshow/status/1559863227093229568" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in an interview on the &#8220;Today Show.&#8221;
When asked about running for president in 2024, she responded that it “is something I’m thinking about and I’ll make a decision in the coming months.”
When asked about a White House run on Sunday, Cheney <a href="https://twitter.com/ThisWeekABC/status/1561352930728484866" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> ABC &#8220;This Week&#8221; co-anchor Jonathan Karl, that she understands why the Republican National Committee “would not want me on a debate stage with Donald Trump.”
“I would imagine Donald Trump isn&#8217;t too interested in that either,” she added.
Politico also reported Wednesday that Cheney intends to launch a <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2022/08/17/scoop-liz-cheneys-next-move-00052332" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new organization</a> in the coming weeks. It is unclear what the group will entail, but it plans to oppose Trump in any future presidential campaign.
“In coming weeks, Liz will be launching an organization to educate the American people about the ongoing threat to our Republic, and to mobilize a unified effort to oppose any Donald Trump campaign for president,” Cheney spokesperson Jeremy Adler told the outlet.

Speaking Of 2024, Is Youngkin A Dark Horse Candidate?
Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) raised some eyebrows and provoked murmurings that the political newcomer is considering a 2024 presidential bid after it was <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meetthepressblog/virginia-gov-glenn-youngkin-continues-summer-campaign-swing-michigan-rcna43330" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that he would be headlining a major Michigan GOP convention dinner at the end of August. Wisconsin Senator Secures Key Endorsement 
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) won the endorsement of the National Border Control Council this week in his race against his Left-wing opponent, Wisconsin Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes (D-WI).
The group told the Washington Free Beacon that Johnson &#8220;has devoted more time and attention to securing our border than virtually any other member of Congress.&#8221;
The endorsement should come as no surprise as Johnson has long made border security one of his central issues and Barnes has flirted with open borders extremism.
He was once photographed holding an &#8220;Abolish ICE&#8221; t-shirt though he has since said he does not support that movement.

Johnson has spent the week visiting local Republican groups, attending the state fair, and did a joint campaign event with Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels. The Wisconsin Republican also put out an ad this week discussing his work to help start a manufacturing company in Oshkosh with his brother-in-law.
Top Oregon Democrat Endorses Republican Christine Drazan For Governor 
In a somewhat surprising move, George Carillo, a Democrat who ran in the Democratic gubernatorial primary <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/George_Carrillo" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://ballotpedia.org/George_Carrillo&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1660843520420000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1V_by_3PlyY8DtZC67hLvu">race</a> this year, is throwing his support behind GOP gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan.
&#8220;At the end of the day, I don&#8217;t see Christine just as a Republican, and she doesn&#8217;t see me just as a Democrat. We see each other as two individuals trying to do good for Oregonians.&#8221; Carillo <a href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=358775392982364">said</a>.&#8221;I&#8217;m supporting Christine Drazan because I believe her values align with mine as far as being able to make the community safer for tomorrow.&#8221;
We do not expect Carillo to earn any praise from legacy media for putting &#8220;country over party&#8221; or whatever they glom on about &#8220;Republicans&#8221; like Wyoming&#8217;s ousted-representative Cheney.

The strong words came just hours after a resounding loss to Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman on Tuesday. The newcomer more than doubled Cheney&#8217;s totals by Wednesday morning. With 99% of the vote reported, Hageman took 66.3% of the votes to Cheney&#8217;s 28.9%.
Cheney called Tuesday night to congratulate Hageman and concede the race. Shortly afterward, the congresswoman gave a <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/read-liz-cheneys-concession-speech-congresswoman-ousted-wyoming-1734296" target="_blank" rel="noopener">concession speech</a> that compared herself to Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.
“The great and original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all,” Cheney said. “Lincoln ultimately prevailed, he saved our Union, and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history.”
Cheney later added, “In May of 1864, after years of war and a string of reluctant Union generals, Ulysses S. Grant met General Lee’s forces at the Battle of the Wilderness.”
She said, &#8220;Refusing to retreat, he pressed on to victory. Lincoln and Grant and all who fought in our nation’s tragic Civil War, including my own great, great grandfathers, saved our Union.&#8221;

It would’ve required that I enable his ongoing efforts to unravel our democratic system and attack the foundations of our republic,’&#8221; Shapiro continued. “That&#8217;s not true.&#8221;
“Winning simply would have required her not to act as a front person for a Democratic committee dedicated to lumping together all Republicans and conservatives with January 6 rioters, and suggesting that anyone who would consider voting Trump 2024 is an incipient fascist,” the Daily Wire’s editor emeritus added.
Other Republicans have figured out how to win GOP contests without alienating pro-Trump conservatives, Shapiro pointed out. The political podcast king said Cheney’s claim that she had to either back Trump’s claim the 2020 election was stolen or fall on her sword represents a false choice.
“Did Glenn Youngkin go along with the idea that Trump won the 2020 election?” Shapiro asked rhetorically, referring to the Virginia governor who triumphed last year in a blue state. “Did he ‘go along with ongoing efforts’ to undermine the republic? How about Dan Crenshaw in Texas? What they didn&#8217;t do is act as enthusiastic participants in a broader Democratic and media agenda.”
Hageman is considered a shoo-in to win Wyoming’s sole House seat in November. A longtime natural resources attorney and founder of the Wyoming Conservative Alliance, the 59-year-old Hageman ran for governor in 2018 and lost.
“We’re fed up with the Jan. 6 commission,” Hageman said at a victory speech in Cheyenne. “We’re fed up with Liz Cheney.”
The race <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-liz-cheney-destroyed-in-wyoming-gop-primary-trump-responds">was called</a> Tuesday night with Hageman leading by 60% to 35% with more than half the ballots still to be counted. Cheney refused to endorse Hageman and vowed to do anything she could to stop Trump from being elected in 2024.
That apparently could include running for the White House herself.
&#8220;Abraham Lincoln was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all,&#8221; Cheney said.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) was mocked Tuesday night for comparing herself to former President Abraham Lincoln after her blowout loss in Wyoming&#8217;s Republican primary for the state&#8217;s at-large congressional seat.
With greater than 95% of the votes counted, Cheney lost by more than a 2-to-1 margin, 66.3% to 28.9%, to Harriet Hageman, who was backed by former President Donald Trump.
&#8220;Tonight, Harriet Hageman has received the most votes in this primary, she won,&#8221; Cheney said during a speech following her loss. &#8220;I called her to concede the race, this primary election is over. But now, the real work begins.&#8221;
Cheney then proceeded to compare herself to Lincoln and to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, who later went on to become America&#8217;s 18th president.
&#8220;The great and original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all,&#8221; Cheney said. &#8220;Lincoln ultimately prevailed, he saved our Union, and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history.&#8221;
Several minutes later, Cheney continued, &#8220;In May of 1864, after years of war and a string of reluctant Union generals, Ulysses S. Grant met General Lee&#8217;s forces at the Battle of the Wilderness.&#8221;
&#8220;In two days of heavy fighting, the Union suffered over 17,000 casualties,&#8221; Cheney continued. &#8220;At the end of that battle, General Grant faced a choice. Most assumed he would do what previous Union generals had done and retreat. On the evening of May 7, Grant began to move. As the fires of the battle still smoldered, Grant rode to the head of the column. He rode to the intersection of Brock Road and Orange Plank Road, and there as the men of his army watched and waited, instead of turning North back towards Washington, and safety, Grant turned his horse south toward Richmond, and the heart of Lee&#8217;s army. Refusing to retreat, he pressed on to victory. Lincoln and Grant and all who fought in our nation&#8217;s tragic Civil War, including my own great, great grandfathers, saved our Union.&#8221;
Cheney was widely mocked on social media following her blowout loss to Hageman as many conservatives especially took issue with her Lincoln comparison.
&#8220;Liz Cheney tried to make herself a martyr at the expense of our country and our party,&#8221; Wesley Hunt, a Republican candidate for Congress, tweeted. &#8220;Comparing yourself to Lincoln doesn’t change that. The comparison is as tone deaf and ridiculous as her seat on the January 6th Committee.&#8221;
Seattle-based conservative radio host Jason Rantz tweeted, &#8220;Abraham Lincoln has a better shot at becoming president in 2024 than Liz Cheney. Bye Liz.&#8221;
&#8220;Liz has a very inflated view of herself,&#8221; longtime ESPN reporter Jeannine Edwards tweeted.
&#8220;1. Dropping ads across Wyoming against Liz Cheney was one of the most fulfilling professional tasks I have had to date in politics,&#8221; Florida GOP Vice Chairman Christian Ziegler tweeted. &#8220;2. No chance this woman has a shot at President. Kasich 2.0 3. This should sunset the Cheneys from anymore politics. Thankfully.&#8221;
Actor Dean Cain responded, &#8220;You’re not Abraham Lincoln, however.&#8221;
&#8220;Yeah, you’re just like Abraham Lincoln you piece of trash,&#8221; attorney Kurt Schlichter fired back at Cheney.
&#8220;Absolutely delusional,&#8221; conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey tweeted.

Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/liz-cheney" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Liz Cheney</a> (R-WY) was blown out in her primary race Tuesday evening against Harriet Hageman in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/wyoming" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wyoming</a>, who was endorsed by former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a>.
Cheney&#8217;s loss comes after she chose to fight harder against Trump&#8217;s claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen than she fought against President Joe Biden (D) and the Democrats.
With more than 95% of the votes counted, Hageman secured greater than 66% of the vote while Cheney was only at 28.9%.
&#8220;Congratulations to Harriet Hageman on her great and very decisive WIN in Wyoming,&#8221; Trump wrote on social media. &#8220;This is a wonderful result for America, and a complete rebuke of the Unselect Committee of political Hacks and Thugs. Liz Cheney should be ashamed of herself, the way she acted, and her spiteful, sanctimonious words and actions towards others. Now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion where, I am sure, she will be much happier than she is right now. Thank you WYOMING!&#8221;
Cheney recently took at a shot Florida Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ron-desantis">Ron DeSantis</a> (R), who is viewed by many as the future of the Republican Party, in an interview with The New York Times where she also admitted that she liked to work with her Democrat colleagues more than her Republican ones.
Cheney said that she “would find it very difficult” to support DeSantis in a general election against a Democrat if DeSantis becomes the 2024 GOP nominee for president.
“I think that Ron DeSantis has lined himself up almost entirely with Donald Trump, and I think that’s very dangerous,” Cheney said.
Cheney also said that she prefers working with her Democrat women in Congress than Republican women.
“I would much rather serve with Mikie Sherrill and Chrissy Houlahan and Elissa Slotkin than Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, even though on substance certainly I have big disagreements with the Democratic women I just mentioned,” Cheney said. “But they love this country, they do their homework and they are people that are trying to do the right thing for the country.”
DeSantis blasted Cheney back in February over her work in targeting her own party by working with Democrats on the January 6 committee.
“Cheney is totally off the rails with her nonsense,” DeSantis said. “And I think she’s not really a Republican in terms of what she’s doing. We want people that are going to fight the left. And that’s what we need to do in this country.”
“That’s what we’re doing in Florida, standing up for people’s freedoms,” DeSantis continued. “We’re opposing wokeness. We’re opposing all these things. To act like the main issue in this country is things that happened over a year ago, I can tell you in Florida that’s not what Floridians are concerned about. They’re concerned about inflation and gas prices.”
“So I think focusing on the issues and showing that we stand for things that matter to people is the way forward,” DeSantis concluded. “To have a vendetta against Donald Trump and to constantly be bringing this up is just not something that I think Republican voters are interested in.”
