House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has made it clear over the course of several interviews that he does not want to talk about New York City&#8217;s Democratic mayoral frontrunner, Zohran Mamdani.
Shortly after Mamdani — a self-described Democratic Socialist — bested disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) to win the Democratic primary, ABC&#8217;s Jonathan Karl asked Jeffries whether he was prepared to endorse his fellow New Yorker.
Jeffries, at the time, said that he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/spin-cycle-how-do-you-solve-a-problem-like-mamdani">did not know</a> Mamdani well enough yet to throw his weight behind the campaign — and he mentioned one sticking point in particular that he believed would have to be addressed before he could do so: Mamdani&#8217;s position on Israel.
&#8220;Globalizing the Intifada, by way of example, is not an acceptable phrasing,” Jeffries said. “He’s going to have to clarify his position on that as he moves forward. With respect to the Jewish communities that I represent, I think our nominee is going to have to convince folks that he is prepared to aggressively address the rise in antisemitism in the city of New York, which has been an unacceptable development.&#8221;

When Jeffries appeared on ABC&#8217;s midday talk show &#8220;The View&#8221; about a week later, the hosts asked him whether he planned to join those in his party — like Mamdani — who were calling for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be defunded. Jeffries tiptoed around the question, saying that he believed there should be &#8220;oversight&#8221; when ICE agents were using more aggressive tactics, but he did not directly answer the question.

One day later, on MSNBC, Ari Melber asked Jeffries about Mamdani directly, wondering whether he believed the socialist&#8217;s surprise win over &#8220;establishment&#8221; Cuomo was good for the Democratic Party.
Instead of addressing whether or not Mamdani&#8217;s win was good for the party, Jeffries explained how he had &#8220;outworked&#8221; and &#8220;out-communicated&#8221; his opposition. He then pivoted to claim President Donald Trump — whose second term has seen falling gas prices and egg prices as well as rising jobs numbers and lowering inflation rates — had done nothing to address the high cost of living that most Americans were facing.
Melber immediately called him out, saying, &#8220;Respectfully, I see the pivot. You know, you&#8217;re good at this. That&#8217;s how you got this job.&#8221;

And on Wednesday morning, CNN&#8217;s Wolf Blitzer pressed Jeffries about new reports indicating that Mamdani&#8217;s allies planned to mount a primary challenge against him. Jeffries waved away the question, and attempted — as he usually does — to turn the topic to Trump.
&#8220;I have no idea what these people are talking about!&#8221; Jeffries said, clarifying that his sole focus was on pushing back against President Trump&#8217;s agenda. &#8220;We are going to continue to focus our efforts as we did on the House floor in connection with Donald Trump’s one big, ugly bill on pushing back against the extremism that has been unleashed on the American people.&#8221;

Big shake-ups could be in the works for CNN as the long-running cable news network adjusts to the new media landscape and a second Donald Trump presidency — and in addition to the possibility of imminent layoffs, the network could be gearing up to shuffle around some of its longtime anchors.
CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/22/cnn-to-lay-off-hundreds-of-employees-post-inauguration.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Wednesday that CNN intended to announce layoffs impacting some 210 employees, or approximately six percent of its total staff. The news came alongside reports of layoffs at NBC as well, although the number of employees impacted by those is expected to be much lower. The layoffs at both networks, according to the report, are part of a shift in focus toward more digital content as fewer and fewer people turn to broadcast and cable news for information.
Along with the layoffs, anchors at CNN could also see some changes in their schedules and assignments, Fox News Digital <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/cnns-jim-acosta-getting-hosed-network-mulls-moving-anti-trump-anchor-midnights-sources-say" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Thursday — and they may not be thrilled at the prospect.
Veteran CNN broadcaster Jim Acosta, who made a name for himself during Trump&#8217;s first term in office by becoming a regular foil both for Trump and for then-White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, could balk at a possible move to late nights.

The move, reportedly pitched by CNN CEO Mark Thompson, would see Acosta moved from his current one-hour time slot at 10 a.m. ET weekdays to a two-hour slot beginning at midnight — which was described in the report as a move to &#8220;effectively exile Acosta to the Siberia of television news.&#8221;
Acosta, according to an unnamed CNN staffer, appears to be &#8220;getting hosed&#8221; by the network — and may not be given another option outside the proposed midnight slot. &#8220;Acosta is a talented broadcaster who could handle any slot on the network. The midnight thing is shocking [but] it is what it is.&#8221;

The Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2025-01-22/will-cnn-move-anchor-jim-acosta-to-the-graveyard-shift" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Acosta, rather than take the late-night spot, could be considering a timely exit from the network.
Acosta is not the only longtime broadcaster who could see a dramatic change. Thompson has <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/01/23/media/jim-acosta-may-exit-cnn-rather-than-accept-move-to-graveyard-shift/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost" target="_blank" rel="noopener">already confirmed</a> that Wolf Blitzer&#8217;s long-running program &#8220;The Situation Room&#8221; will move from early evenings to Acosta&#8217;s current slot at 10 a.m. ET, and he will share anchor duties with Pamela Brown.

This week, CNN chief national security analyst Jim Sciutto claimed that billionaire Elon Musk’s conversation with former president Donald Trump was “not an interview” because Musk has endorsed Trump and donated to his campaign.

But Musk didn’t promote his discussion with Trump as an interview, explicitly saying that he simply wanted a free-wheeling conversation. When pressed on how this definition could be used against CNN, Sciutto claimed that he and his colleagues “ask hard questions of both parties.”
That remains to be seen. <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Fact_check/Do_97_percent_of_journalist_donations_go_to_Democrats">Multiple studies</a> have shown that journalists who donate to political causes and politicians are far more likely to donate to Democrats. This bias is evident in the ranks of mainstream media outlets. For example, CNN anchor and pundit John Avlon is <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/ex-cnn-pundit-john-avlon-who-spent-years-bashing-trump-seeks-congressional-seat-in-district-that-support-him" target="_blank" rel="noopener">currently running</a> as a Democrat in New York&#8217;s 1st Congressional District. MSNBC&#8217;s Alicia Menendez is the daughter of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/convicted-senator-bob-menendez-will-resign-effective-august-20-reports" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted felon</a> and soon-to-be former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ). NBC News briefly <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/14/business/media/chelsea-clinton-hired-by-nbc-news.html">hired</a> Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton, as a correspondent in 2011.

A Daily Wire review of FEC records found no evidence that CNN anchors who have interviewed Trump have donated to Democrats – at least not to any organization that requires public reporting of such donations. But their treatment of the former president is essentially a de facto endorsement of his opponents.
Here are some of the many, many examples of Sciutto’s network and others treating Trump more harshly than Biden or any other Democrat.
Jim Sciutto
Sciutto, who was chief of staff for then-Ambassador to China Gary Locke during the Obama administration, has used his X account to attack Trump and <a href="https://x.com/jimsciutto/status/1788377236275449978?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">defend President Joe Biden.</a> For example, on May 8, Sciutto claimed Trump halted Ukraine aid “for an explicit and personal political favor,” while claiming Biden threatening to halt aid to Israel was merely “over differences over the conduct of the war.”

Kaitlan Collins
Collins&#8217; ascension at CNN (after a stint as The Daily Caller’s entertainment reporter) has been marked by biased decisions.
On November 26, 2020, Collins posted a selfie with other CNN reporters bragging about being part of the “crew that got President Trump to answer his first questions in over three weeks.” As others <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/reporters-take-photo-gloat-about-getting-trump-to-answer-questions-get-mocked">noted</a> at the time, neither Collins nor anyone else from CNN bragged about getting Biden to answer a single question as he and Vice President Kamala Harris continued to largely avoid taking questions from reporters.

Collins also <a href="https://puck.news/the-kaitlan-era-begins-tonight/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=organic">apparently</a> rose through the ranks quickly at CNN thanks to her role as a White House reporter who <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/05/10/trump-cnn-kaitlan-collins-00095114">annoyed</a> Trump with her hostile questions.
Wolf Blitzer
Blitzer&#8217;s wife donated $250 to the Democratic National Committee in 1996, campaign finance records show. But Blitzer has come under fire for bias. CNN pundit Scott Jennings <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/whos-in-the-hospital-cnn-pundit-fires-back-at-wolf-blitzer-over-both-sides-response-to-trump-rally-shooting">blasted</a> Blitzer for saying “both sides” needed to cool rhetoric after an assassination attempt was made on Trump. Former National Security Advisor John Bolton <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/john-bolton-unloads-on-wolf-blitzer-over-alito-flag-brouhaha-just-over-the-line">excoriated</a> Blitzer for pushing a New York Times-based conspiracy theory that the “Appeal to Heaven” flag – which was designed by George Washington’s private secretary and commissioned for use in the Continental Navy in 1775 — was somehow a symbol of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots.
Jake Tapper
Tapper, who began his career working for Democratic Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky (now Chelsea Clinton&#8217;s mother-in-law), has used language <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnns-debate-moderators-dont-expect-fairness">comparing</a> Trump to Hitler.
In December 2023, Tapper said, “Trump, a couple of times over the weekend, referred to immigrants from South America, Africa, and Asia, he did not mention Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia as ‘poisoning the blood of our country,’ which if it’s not hyperbole, that does very directly echo Adolf Hitler’s language before World War II, before the Holocaust.”

As The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnns-debate-moderators-dont-expect-fairness">pointed out</a> in June, Tapper and fellow CNN host Dana Bash had the following exchange after the first debate between Trump and Biden in 2020:

Tapper: The President does not think he’s going to win this election. And he wants to bring the rest of us down with him.</blockquote>
He also said, after Trump lost re-election, that the “long national nightmare is over” for tens of millions of his “fellow” Americans.
Dana Bash
Dana Bash&#8217;s ex-husband, Jeremy Bash, gave hundreds to Democrat candidates and organizations during their marriage. After Biden’s 2024 State of the Union speech, Bash praised Biden, “They wanted him to be a fighter, and, boy, a fight did he deliver.”
Just this week, Bash <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnns-dana-bash-slammed-for-lying-about-remarks-made-by-trump-musk-during-their-talk">was caught lying</a> about what billionaire Elon Musk and Trump discussed on X. Bash played a deceptively edited clip giving the implication that Musk and Trump simply said bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki wasn’t bad, when they were discussing that in the larger context of nuclear power and its benefits and dangers.
Sen. J.D. Vance <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jd-vance-shreds-left-wing-cnn-host-dana-bash-for-defending-tim-walz">recently called out</a> Bash for defending Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, after it was shown he has been misleading people about his military service.
Bash also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-anchor-dana-bash-raves-over-bidens-mic-drop-moment-on-hostage-release-but-its-a-lie">complimented</a> a response from Biden that proved to be false. When four hostages were released from Russia in August, a reporter asked Biden about Trump’s claim that he would get the hostages released if he was elected in November, to which Biden asked why Trump didn’t get the hostages out when he was president. Bash commented: “I think that was what they call a ‘mic drop’ moment.”
Only one of those hostages had been taken during Trump’s administration.
Anderson Cooper
Cooper’s on-air commentary also skews toward Democrats, like his 2020 <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/brian-stelter-claims-cnn-would-never-air-an-incendiary-phrase-that-anderson-cooper-used-thursday">comment</a> that the Trump re-election campaign was “like a clown car on fire.”
Cooper also has criticized Trump’s selection of Vance as his running mate, asking a guest in July if he thought the Trump campaign was “having any buyer’s remorse,” after the media reshared old videos of Vance’s comments.
Cooper has not asked such a question following Harris’ selection of Walz as her running mate.
Cooper has also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/anderson-cooper-compares-capitol-hill-riot-to-800000-murdered-in-rwanda?%3Futm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=dwtwitter">compared</a> the January 6 Capitol Hill riots to the Rwandan genocide, which saw 800,000 people murdered.
“Part of it, I think, just based on what you were just saying, it comes to mind, the idea of otherizing people is something I think we saw a lot of over the last four years. I mean, certainly we’ve seen a lot over the last decades, but it’s so easy to otherize people, to make people other than, other than American, other than patriotic, other than human,” Cooper said in February 2021. “You know, and we’ve seen it in Bosnia, we’ve seen it in Rwanda, where radio was telling people that you know, Hutus, were telling the radio listeners that Tutsi were cockroaches for you know, getting them ginned up for genocide.”
George Stephanopoulos
Stephanopoulos, ABC&#8217;s top political anchor, came under fire in 2015 after it was discovered that he failed to disclose a $75,000 donation to the Clinton Foundation. Stephanopoulos, who previously worked as President Bill Clinton&#8217;s White House communications director and senior advisor, had a long history of supporting Democrats and undermining Republicans. In 2024, he said it was &#8220;<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/abcs-stephanopoulos-claims-airing-trump-interviews-live-journalistic-malpractice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">journalistic malpractice</a>&#8221; to air live television interviews with Trump, even though he&#8217;s currently running for president. CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer got called out by a colleague on the network for talking about how &#8220;both sides&#8221; should cool their political rhetoric in the immediate aftermath of a shooting at Saturday&#8217;s Trump rally in Pennsylvania.
Footage of the incident showed former President Donald Trump ducking behind his podium before being escorted away by Secret Service with blood on his ear. He raised his fist in the air several times as he left.
The Trump campaign released a statement shortly after the shooting saying the former president was “fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.” Trump himself later released a statement <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-trump-appears-to-be-shot-at-rally?topStoryPosition=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">saying</a> he was shot in the ear.
A suspected shooter was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/photos-show-chaos-after-shots-fired-at-trump-former-president-defiantly-raising-fist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;neutralized&#8221;</a> by U.S. Secret Service personnel, according to the Secret Service. The Secret Service added that one spectator was killed and two others were &#8220;critically injured.&#8221;
Later in the evening, Blitzer went back and forth with CNN pundit Scott Jennings, who was a special assistant to former President George W. Bush.
&#8220;We have people in this country who are dedicated to telling half the country that if Donald Trump wins an election the country will end, the Constitution will go away, and so on and so forth,&#8221; Jennings said.

Blitzer countered that Trump has also spoken &#8220;very strongly&#8221; against President Joe Biden.
&#8220;But we&#8217;re also hearing from Trump very, very strong statements of condemnation of Biden, &#8216;the worst president,&#8217; &#8216;the most dangerous president,&#8217; and all of that,&#8221; Blitzer responded. &#8220;He&#8217;s speaking very, very strongly against President Biden.&#8221;
&#8220;Who&#8217;s in the hospital?&#8221; Jennings shot back.
&#8220;You say calm things down,&#8221; Blitzer said. &#8220;I agree both sides should calm down.&#8221;
Later in the evening, Blitzer repeated his call saying, &#8220;Clearly the rhetoric on both sides has to calm down.&#8221;

Former National Security Advisor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/john-bolton" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John Bolton</a> gave CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer an earful when the longtime broadcaster attempted to push a New York Times-based attack on Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.
The controversy began last week with a New York Times &#8220;exposé&#8221; revealing that an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/justice-alito-gives-his-side-of-story-on-the-neighborhood-spat-behind-nyt-flag-story" target="_blank" rel="noopener">upside-down American flag</a> had been spotted at the Justice&#8217;s home in Alexandria, Virginia. Despite the fact that Alito explained what had happened — his wife had hung the flag amid a dispute with a neighbor — the Times immediately concluded that because the flag was spotted in late January of 2021 and Capitol rioters had also carried upside-down flags, the only possible explanation was that Alito had supported the riots.
Less than a week later, a follow-up <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-york-times-targets-alito-again-this-time-its-for-revolutionary-war-era-flag" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NYT report</a> revealed that Alito also had an &#8220;Appeal to Heaven&#8221; flag — a flag designed by George Washington&#8217;s private secretary and commissioned for use in the Continental Navy in 1775 — at his beach house in New Jersey. And because some of *those* flags had also been spotted on January 6th, the Times naturally ran with that as well.
But when Blitzer attempted to present that narrative to Bolton, the former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. quickly called him out.
&#8220;I first heard of the upside-down American flag as being a Jan. 6 symbol when I read about it in The New York Times about a week ago. I had no idea what was going on in Justice Alito’s wife’s mind when she flew it, but if somebody hadn’t told me that they thought it was a symbol of the Jan. 6 people, I wouldn’t have guessed it. I would have thought maybe she was giving the finger to one of her neighbors, and that may not be appropriate, either,&#8221; Bolton said.
&#8220;But, I’m telling you, it’s getting to a point where people trying to take symbols of American patriotism and turn them against Supreme Court Justices is just over the line!&#8221; Bolton continued.
&#8220;But should a U.S. Supreme Court justice be using these flags that clearly, right now at least, have some political implications, as well as some history there. But, currently, they have political implications,&#8221; Blitzer pushed back, parroting the narrative.

Blitzer was insistent: &#8220;Well, they do have political implications, both of these flags.&#8221;
&#8220;It can’t — you — well, they don’t have political implications to me!&#8221; Bolton said.
&#8220;And they’re involved in Jan. 6,&#8221; Blitzer said, as if that was the deciding factor.
&#8220;A lot of things were used by Jan. 6!&#8221; Bolton observed.
&#8220;Turning the U.S. flag upside down was used by those who supported the insurrection, as you know, and this other flag —&#8221; Blitzer tried again.
&#8220;No! I did not know that! I didn’t know that ’til I read it in The New York Times!&#8221; Bolton said again.
&#8220;Well, a lot of people did know that, and that’s why it’s controversial,&#8221; Blitzer kept hammering the point.
&#8220;Well, it’s controversial for liberals! No, listen, Wolf! It’s controversial for liberals who have it in for Sam Alito,&#8221; Bolton turned the argument on the CNN anchor. &#8220;It’s not controversial for me, and I’m as against Donald Trump as anybody I know in this country.&#8221;

Jean-Pierre deflected on the question about the midterms, citing the Hatch Act as the reason she couldn&#8217;t get into the politics of the situation. She then pivoted back to abortion, arguing that Biden was only weighing in on the issue because Republicans were putting &#8220;women&#8217;s health at risk&#8221; and &#8220;criminalizing doctors.&#8221;

Olivarez spoke with CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer on Thursday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;The Situation Room,&#8221; and Blitzer asked why officers had waited outside rather than rushing the school and engaging the active shooter at the first possible moment.

Olivarez began by explaining that officers had gone into the school very quickly, but they had heard the gunfire and called for backup, opting to wait for the assistance a tactical team could provide rather than charging into the classroom where the shooter had already barricaded himself.
&#8220;Don’t current best practices, don’t they call for officers to disable a shooter as quickly as possible, regardless of how many officers are actually on site?&#8221; Blitzer asked.
&#8220;Correct,&#8221; Olivares agreed, but then he went on to explain why the officers at the scene had chosen to take a different approach. &#8220;The active shooter situation, you want to stop the killing, you want to preserve life, but also one thing that – of course, the American people need to understand — that officers are making entry into this building. They do not know where the gunman is.&#8221;
&#8220;They are hearing gunshots. They are receiving gunshots,&#8221; Olivares continued. &#8220;At that point, if they proceeded any further not knowing where the suspect was at, they could’ve been shot, they could’ve been killed, and that gunman would have had an opportunity to kill other people inside that school.&#8221;
Since the shooting on Tuesday, a number of conflicting reports have come out about when police officers first engaged the gunman and whether or not they could have or should have entered the school sooner than they did.
Initial reports suggested that a school police officer had engaged the shooter before he entered the school — but DPS <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/confirmed-shooter-was-not-confronted-by-cops-before-entering-school-through-unlocked-door/">officials confirmed</a> on Thursday afternoon that he had not been stopped prior to entering the school through an unlocked door.
&#8220;Texas DPS now says that there was no school police officer who encountered or engaged the mass shooter at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. Shooter was not confronted before entry and it appears he walked into the school through an unlocked door, per DPS,&#8221; Fox News reporter Bill Melugin <a href="https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1529895723243909141">tweeted</a> following a press conference with local law enforcement.

&#8220;The government can&#8217;t keep telling our citizens that this is a five-alarm fire all the time,&#8221; she continued, suggesting that the move was at least as much about human behavior as it was about available data. &#8220;People are just going to start tuning it out and not pay attention, they&#8217;ll be desensitized.&#8221;
&#8220;And so what needs to happen is we need to end the state of emergency and preserve the ability of public health authorities to reinstitute mandates in the future if we more and more dangerous variants later,&#8221; she concluded, effectively arguing that public health authorities would have no power to implement future mandates if they pushed the people too far.

A number of officials have rolled back mask mandates in their states — most notably newly-elected Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R).
Democratic Governors Phil Murphy (NJ) and John Carney (DE) have also announced a plan to remove school masking requirements in a matter of weeks, prompting a response from White House press secretary Jen Psaki at Monday&#8217;s briefing.

Psaki said the White House still recommended that children wear masks in school because that was the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), but she noted that individual schools and localities were at liberty to adopt different policies.
&#8220;What does it say then that a governor like Phil Murphy, who&#8217;s been so closely aligned with the policies of this administration, would get ahead of the medical experts and say, &#8216;Never mind what they say, school districts, you decide&#8217;?&#8221; a reporter pressed.
Psaki said again that it had always been up to the districts but that the federal government recommended abiding by the current guidance.
The reporter pushed back, asking whether she believed that Democrats moving to lift mandates suggested a change in public opinion that might also warrant a change in federal guidelines.
Psaki insisted that she understood people were &#8220;tired of COVID,&#8221; but that the White House was not going to get out ahead of the CDC.

On Tuesday, appearing on CNN with host Wolf Blitzer, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi furiously and hysterically accused Blitzer and some of his colleagues of being “apologists for the Republican position” after Blitzer repeatedly asked her why she would not get together with President Trump to make a deal for a coronavirus stimulus bill.
Blitzer pointed out that Pelosi wrote to House Democrats that “the president only wants his name on a check to go out before election day and for the market to go up,” then asked Pelosi, “Is that what this is all about?  To not allow the president to take credit that there&#8217;s a deal that will help millions of Americans right now?” Pelosi answered, “I don&#8217;t care about that.  He&#8217;s not that important.  But let me say this, with all due respect, you really don&#8217;t know what you are talking about.”
Blitzer said of Americans, “They really need the money right now, and even members of your own caucus, Madame Speaker, wanted to accept this deal. 1.8 trillion dollars; Congressman Ro Khanna, a man you know well, I assume you admire him, he&#8217;s a Democrat, and he just said this, he said, &#8216;People in need can&#8217;t wait until February.  1.8 trillion is significant &amp; more than twice the Obama stimulus &#8212; make a deal &amp; put the ball in the McConnell court.&#8217;  So what do you say to Ro Khanna?”
“What I say to you is, I don&#8217;t know, you&#8217;re always an apologist,” an irate Pelosi snarled. “And many of your colleagues, apologists for the Republican position. Ro Khanna: that&#8217;s nice.  That isn&#8217;t what we&#8217;re going to do. And nobody&#8217;s waiting until February.”
“I want this very much now,” Pelosi claimed. “Because people need help now. It&#8217;s no use giving them a false thing just because the president wants to put a check with his name on it in the mail that we should not be doing all we can to help people pay the rent, put food on the table then enhance benefits that they don&#8217;t lose their jobs if they&#8217;re state and local. We&#8217;re talking about the consequences of a pandemic. The symptoms of a problem that the president refuses to address.  And that is the coronavirus. That is the coronavirus.”
“We know the problem out there but there are millions of Americans who have lost their jobs, they can&#8217;t pay the rent, their kids need the food,” Blitzer persisted. “1.8 trillion dollars. The president just tweeted: ‘Stimulus: go big or go home.’ He wants even more right now, so why not work on a deal with him and don&#8217;t the perfect, as they say here in Washington, be the enemy of the good?”
Pelosi, losing all sense of logic: “Well, I will not let the wrong be the enemy of the right.”
Blitzer: “What&#8217;s wrong with 1.8 trillion dollars?”
“Do you know what?” Pelosi asked. “Do you have any idea of what the difference is between the spending that they had in their bill and that we had in our bill? Do you realize that they have come back and said all these things for child tax credits and earned income tax credits and helping people who have lost their jobs, are eliminated in their bill? Do you realize they pay no respect to the fact that child care is very important for people whose children cannot go to school cause they&#8217;re remote learning and yet they minimize the need for child care which is the threshold with which people, mothers and fathers, can go to work if they had that. Do you have any idea at how just woefully short their concern —”
Blitzer: “That&#8217;s precisely why, Madam Speaker, it&#8217;s so important now. Yesterday I spoke to Andrew Yang, who says the same thing: It&#8217;s not everything you want, but there&#8217;s a lot there.”
Pelosi: “Yeah, but you know what? Honest to God, I can&#8217;t get over it. Because Andrew Yang, he&#8217;s lovely. Ro Khanna, he&#8217;s lovely. They are not negotiating this situation. They have no ideas of the particulars. They have no idea of what the language is here.”
Another slip: “I didn&#8217;t come over here to have &#8212; so you&#8217;re the apologist for the Obama — excuse me, G-d forbid.”
Blitzer, protesting, “Madam Speaker, I&#8217;m not an apologist. I&#8217;m asking you serious questions because so many people are in desperate need right now. Let me ask you this: when was the last time, Madam Speaker, you spoke with the president about this?”
Pelosi: “I don&#8217;t speak with the president. I speak with his representative.”
Blitzer, trying to be reasonable: “Why not? Why not call him and say, Mr. President, let&#8217;s work out a deal. It&#8217;s not going to be everything you want, it&#8217;s not going to be everything I want, but there are so many Americans right now who are in desperate need, let&#8217;s make a deal.”
Pelosi, haughtily: “What makes me amused if it weren&#8217;t so sad, is how you all think that you know more about the suffering of the American people than those of us who were elected by them to represent them at that table.”
Later, Blitzer pointed out, “Here&#8217;s what you wrote in a letter to House Democrats, Madam Speaker&#8230; &#8216;The president only wants his name on a check to go out before election day and for the market to go up.’ Is that what this is all about? Blitzer repeated, “1.8 trillion dollars is a lot of money. The American people need that money ASAP because they&#8217;re suffering right now.  I&#8217;m not saying it&#8217;s perfect&#8230;”
Pelosi: “You don&#8217;t care how it&#8217;s spent.”
Blitzer: “Of course, I care how it&#8217;s spent. But what I don&#8217;t understand is why not talk to the president personally. Call him up and say, &#8216;Mr. President let&#8217;s get a deal tomorrow.&#8217;”

CNN changed a chyron during a segment early this week on the violent protests in Wisconsin over the weekend, removing the word &#8220;violent&#8221; from the chyron—even though the protests were, in fact, violent.
During a live broadcast on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,&#8221; the network aired the following chyron:

A New York Times column from earlier this year, after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/30/opinion/sunday/riots-george-floyd.html">argued</a> that when protests remain peaceful, they lead to progressive reforms, but, when they turn violent riots, they end up leading to calls for law and order—to the benefit of Republicans.
The protests had turned into a violent riot by that point because the state&#8217;s governor, Tony Evers, had <a href="https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/WIGOV/bulletins/29b954d">announced</a> that he was deploying the National Guard to Kenosha:
<blockquote>Pursuant to Section 321.39(1)(a) of the Wisconsin Statutes, the governor ordered into state active duty members of the Wisconsin National Guard deemed necessary to support to local law enforcement and first responders in Kenosha. Any Guard members called to active duty may only be used to provide support to local law enforcement and to protect critical infrastructure and cultural institutions necessary for the well-being of the community, and to provide support to first responders such as the Kenosha Fire Department. The National Guard may not be used to impede the ability of people to peacefully protest or impede the ability of the media to report on this situation.</blockquote>
“I know folks across our state will be making their voices heard in Kenosha and in communities across Wisconsin. Every person should be able to express their anger and frustration by exercising their First Amendment rights and report on these calls to action without any fear of being unsafe,” Evers said in a statement. “This is a limited mobilization of the National Guard focused on supporting the needs of local first responders to protect critical infrastructure, such as utilities and fire stations, and to ensure Kenoshians are able to assemble safely.”
Maj. Gen. Paul Knapp, Wisconsin’s adjutant general, added: “Serving our fellow Wisconsin citizens and assisting civil authorities during times of need is one of core missions in the National Guard. Our Citizen Soldiers and Airmen are well-trained and prepared to assist in any way we can in an effort to preserve public safety.”

On Wednesday, ESPN released <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29553829/espn-investigation-finds-coaches-nba-china-academies-complained-player-abuse-lack-schooling">a bombshell report</a> detailing how Chinese authorities allegedly abused players at NBA academies. Later that night, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver appeared on CNN with host Wolf Blitzer – and wasn’t asked once about the major new scandal.
As The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kids-abused-at-nba-youth-training-camps-in-china-employee-says-it-was-like-working-in-world-war-ii-germany-report-claims">reported</a>, the NBA worked with their Chinese partners to set up training academies that allegedly beat kids who didn’t perform well enough.
“American coaches at three NBA training academies in China told league officials their Chinese partners were physically abusing young players and failing to provide schooling, even though commissioner Adam Silver had said that education would be central to the program,” ESPN <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29553829/espn-investigation-finds-coaches-nba-china-academies-complained-player-abuse-lack-schooling">reported</a>. “One former league employee who worked in China wondered how the NBA, which has been so progressive on issues around Black Lives Matter and moved the 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte, North Carolina, over a law requiring transgender people to use bathrooms corresponding to the sex listed on their birth certificates, could operate a training camp amid a Chinese government crackdown that also targeted NBA employees.”
A former employee at a training camp in Xinjiang – a region known for concentration camps full of Chinese Muslims known as Uyghurs – told ESPN that working at the camp was like “World War II Germany.” Another former employee said the camp was like “a sweat camp for athletes.” One former coach told the outlet, “we were basically working for the Chinese government.”
ESPN reported that multiple coaches quit over the physical abuse they witnessed.

<blockquote>NBA deputy commissioner and chief operating officer Mark Tatum, who oversees international operations, claimed that the league received a few complaints about the abuse, and claimed that the incidents were never reported to top league officials.
Numerous officials who worked for the NBA in China said that the level of abuse was “much more prevalent” than what Tatum had claimed.
One coach said that a Chinese coach threw a ball at a young player’s face from point-blank range and then “kick[ed] him in the gut.”</blockquote>
Yet CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer failed to ask NBA commissioner Adam Silver about anything related to the league and China. Blitzer interviewed Silver for nearly 16 minutes but focused on bringing basketball back amid continuing coronavirus fears. The interview with CNN took place two hours after ESPN dropped its report.
Silver has championed progressive social justice policies in the United States, allowing athletes to place league-approved statements on their jerseys – none of which pertain to the horrors currently occurring in China regarding Hong Kong or Uyghur internment camps.
When the Chinese training camps were announced in 2016, Silver emphasized that education would be part of the program.
&#8220;Top international prospects will benefit from a complete approach to player development that combines NBA-quality coaching, training and competition with academics and personal development,&#8221; Silver said at the time.
The ESPN report noted that players in the camps were not attending classes.
