Everyone is still talking about the extended debate between Libertarian comic Dave Smith and author Douglas Murray on “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
The Spotify superstar set the chat in motion, knowing the two had extremely different views that would make for a compelling exchange. It’s a sad sign of the times when a debate between two well-meaning adults is increasingly rare in pop culture.
The chat did more than let both pundits share their views. It reminded Rogan of an old saw that Uncle Ben taught a budding web-slinger long ago.
With great power comes great responsibility.

The underlying message in the chat? Rogan’s <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah6kirkSwTg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hugely popular show</a> has been letting some cranks share his podcast microphone. That might not have mattered a few years ago, but now “The Joe Rogan Experience” has the power to shape the political landscape.
Many pundits suggest Donald Trump’s appearance on the show, along with Kamala Harris’ unwillingness to do the same, played a role in the real estate mogul’s victory.
Letting “historians” in Rogan’s studio who resist that label, spread erroneous facts, and refuse to take on their critics, may not be the best way to flex his podcast muscle.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-rogan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rogan</a> has played podcast footsie with conspiracy monger Alex Jones for some time. Now, he’s expanding that practice to the format’s detriment. Think Ian Carroll and Darryl Cooper as two recent examples.
The latter called Winston Churchill, <a href="https://winstonchurchill.hillsdale.edu/cooper-koureas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The chief villain of World War II.”</a>
“I feel you’ve opened the door to quite a lot of people who now got a big platform, who have been throwing out counter-historical stuff of a very dangerous kind,” Murray said early in the conversation. “These guys are not historians. They’re not knowledgeable about anything.”
“I just think, ‘I’d like to talk to that person.&#8217;” Rogan said of his guest choice.
The far-Left Hollywood Reporter, sensing a weakness in Rogan’s podcasting armor, called the podcaster’s recent tilt, “Dangerous.” That’s overstating it, but <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/politics-news/joe-rogan-douglas-murray-podcast-1236192416/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">it’s neither healthy nor helpful.</a>
A week later, Darryl Cooper arrived to perform his act, which can be described as offering outrageous provocations he then half walks back so he can repeat them all again tomorrow. In September, Cooper had appeared on Tucker Carlson’s podcast to say that Churchill was the real villain in World War II and that Nazis didn’t want to kill Jews in concentration camps; Jews only “ended up dead” because Germany didn’t have the resources to take care of them.
Murray and Smith didn’t name call or insult one another during the often-tense exchange. Rogan proved an avuncular host, trying to keep the parties on an even keel. The two sparred over foreign policy, the Ukraine war, and, most passionately, the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Murray’s silky-smooth delivery and impeccable grasp of the facts mattered. Smith brought an Everyman’s perspective to the party, often appearing overmatched in the dustup.

Who “won” depends partly on who you were rooting for prior to the exchange. Both landed some blows, from Murray detailing the horrors of October 7 to Smith sharing the devastation in Gaza from the extended conflict.
It’s increasingly rare to watch these kinds of debates play out on the pop culture landscape. Hollywood’s near total domination by the Left means there’s little appetite for these healthy exchanges. 
Consider today’s late-night hosts. They all sing from the same progressive hymnal and invite progressive guests on to nod along with the audience. The host of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” just raged against President Donald Trump in a Rolling Stone interview. Here’s part of his <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/jimmy-kimmel-trump-late-night-future-interview-1235315906/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">jeremiad against all things GOP</a>.
&#8220;There’s no decency. It’s just a bunch of animals [emphasis added], and it’s disgusting… I mean, on the Fourth of July, I still put up a flag, and I’m never going to stop doing that, because I’m never going to let them have that symbol.&#8221;
Does that sound like someone willing to host a free and fair debate on his platform? Why can’t Kimmel invite someone like Dr. Jordan Peterson or Greg Gutfeld on his show for a civil conversation? It would make for compelling TV and might boost the show’s ratings.
Plus, audiences might take away something valuable from it beyond demonizing those with whom they disagree. It’s increasingly clear folks on the Left aren’t interested in that kind of exchange.
There is an exception, though. Classical liberal Bill Maher, both on his HBO talk show and “Club Random” podcast, routinely invites Right-leaning guests to talk out their differences. Think Dave Rubin, Kid Rock, and actor Zachary Levi, to name just three.

Rogan probably didn’t like to hear someone like Murray, well-regarded in many circles, dressing him down on his own show. He needed to hear it all the same. It’s reminiscent of another pivotal moment from the show’s past.
Rogan invited then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on his show for what appeared to be a tepid chat that let Dorsey slink away from his platform’s censorious ways. Rogan got an earful from his fans who felt he had let the CEO off too easily. So he invited Dorsey back on the show, but brought backup.
He added journalist gadfly <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZCBRHOg3PQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tim Pool to the conversation</a>. Pool brought some unflattering receipts, and the exchange proved far more illuminating than the first interview.
Perhaps Rogan needed a reminder of why his show matters and the consequences of having one of the biggest podcasts in the country.
Uncle Ben would be proud if he took that lesson seriously.

Since they cascaded to victory last summer, Great Britain’s leftist Labour Party has removed portraits of two of the most famous Prime Ministers the country ever had, the Duke of Wellington and Winston Churchill, both of whom were responsible for defeating the country’s greatest arch-enemies, Napoleon and Adolph Hitler.
“Portraits of Winston Churchill, the Duke of Wellington, and more British heroes have been removed from the Houses of Parliament after Labour&#8217;s election win last summer, it has emerged,” GB News <a href="https://www.gbnews.com/politics/keir-starmer-winston-churchill-portrait-parliament-labour-party-history">reported</a>. “Since the General Election, drawings, photographs and prints of historical British political leaders and monarchs have been axed across Westminster &#8211; some of which were ‘blacklisted’ in 2020. &#8230; One photograph removed from Portcullis House &#8211; the main office building for MPs &#8211; showed the Second World War leader standing at the Cenotaph in 1945.”
The Cenotaph is a national war memorial to the dead of the First and Second World Wars and the wars that have followed. It&#8217;s the site of the National Service of Remembrance every November.
Churchill was not only the leader who led the fight against Hitler from the beginning, he also was a gifted writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953. Churchill had been warning for many years before World War II of the growing Nazi threat. “It is for his leadership through these fraught years of 1940-1941 – through Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain and the Blitz &#8211; that Churchill is best remembered,&#8221; the International War Museum <a href="https://www.iwm.org.uk/history/how-churchill-led-britain-to-victory-in-the-second-world-war">notes</a>. “Crucially, he rallied the nation in defiance of Hitler. In the words of Labour politician Hugh Dalton, Churchill was &#8216;the only man we have for this hour.&#8217; This view was shared by the overwhelming majority of the British people.”
After British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain pusillanimously conceded to Hitler in 1938, Churchill famously predicted, “Britain and France had to choose between war and dishonour. They chose dishonour. They will have war.”
“His finest hour was the leadership of Britain when it was most isolated, most threatened, and most weak; when his own courage, determination, and belief in democracy became at one with the nation,” Churchill’s biographer Martin Gilbert wrote.
The Duke Of Wellington, who, like Churchill, served as Prime Minister twice, is still regarded as one of the greatest military commanders in history. He commanded the army that defeated Napoleon at Waterloo, and never lost a major battle.

For all of history, evil has threatened to take over the created order and spread chaos everywhere, and for all of history, men have risen from the ashes to confront and destroy that evil. Those men — those dragon-slayers — understood the uncompromisable importance of total victory, but few expressed it as well as Winston Churchill. 
Churchill was a man the world needed in one of its darkest hours, and he’s a man who showed up and led the world in the face of blood-thirsty armies and unthinkable terror. When the British faced the Nazis, Churchill spoke a message to his people that has echoed through the annals of our time.

We should never forget those words of courage. And now, thanks to the strength, courage, and victory of another man who was confronted with the evil of our day, Churchill’s bust is back in the Oval Office. President Donald Trump returned the Churchill bust to the Oval Office immediately after being sworn in last week, The Independent <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/bust-sir-winston-churchill-moved-155114113.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. 
President Joe Biden had swapped Churchill’s bust for busts of civil rights leaders Rosa Parks and Cesar Chavez, per The Independent, but Trump, a huge fan of Churchill, wasn’t going to let the British Bulldog’s bust collect dust in some White House storage closet. 
Oh, and this wasn’t the first time Trump moved Churchill’s bust back into the Oval Office. He did the same thing after President Barack Obama gave Churchill the boot from 2009 to 2017. 
Trump’s move, while not covered much by the legacy media, gained some attention when British political commentator Piers Morgan thanked the president for moving Churchill back into the Oval Office.   
“President @realDonaldTrump has (again) returned Sir Winston Churchill to the Oval Office. Both Obama &amp; Biden removed him. Thank you, Mr President &#8211; we Brits are very appreciative,” Morgan wrote.

Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ted-cruz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ted Cruz</a> (R-TX) ripped President Joe Biden following his trip to Normandy, France, this week to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Cruz made the remarks during his &#8220;Verdict&#8221; podcast with co-host Ben Ferguson while talking about Secretary of State Antony Blinken&#8217;s recent comparison between D-Day and the war in Ukraine.
&#8220;This White House does all politics all the time. That&#8217;s what they do, they spin, spin, spin,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And the two are fundamentally different. You know, I wish they would treat a solemn commemoration like this for what it is, a solemn commemoration, and not treat it as another day of politics.&#8221;
He then ripped Biden for his policy of appeasement toward Russian President Vladimir Putin, arguing that it was Biden&#8217;s fault that the war erupted in the first place.
&#8220;Joe Biden gave multibillion dollar gifts to Vladimir Putin when he waived sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, sanctions that I authored, I wrote the legislation,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And Putin stopped building that pipeline the day President Trump signed my sanctions legislation into law.&#8221;

He continued, &#8220;If Donald Trump were still in the White House, the war in Ukraine would not have happened. It&#8217;s Joe Biden&#8217;s weakness that caused the war in Ukraine. And by the way, as much as Biden and Blinken want to see themselves as Churchill and FDR, if there is a World War Two analogy, then Biden is Neville Chamberlain. He is the one who is weak, he is the appeaser. He is the one who gave billions to Russia. He is the one who gives billions to Iran. He&#8217;s the one that constantly showed weakness to our enemies, which is why we went from peace and prosperity, what he inherited three and a half years ago, to two simultaneous wars playing out across the face of the globe.&#8221;

June 6, 2024, marks the 80th anniversary of the storming of Normandy on D-Day. The United States and its allies stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Between that date and the end of the war in the European theater, there were 552,117 U.S. casualties; 104,812 Americans were killed in action. On D-Day alone, some 2,501 Americans were killed. 
Why was the war necessary? I know this seems like a stupid question, but there are many people today who don&#8217;t understand why the war was necessary. It was because the Nazis were, in fact, an evil regime hell-bent on global domination, with the imposition of their vile system of government and supremacist ideology on the globe. And as we know, World War II also led directly into the next righteous war, the Cold War, wherein the US-led Free World squared off against the Soviet Union, another evil empire. 
Americans saved the world. It is that simple. Had America not intervened in World War II, the end would have been German domination of the European continent. It was American naval resupply of the United Kingdom that allowed the United Kingdom to survive the German Navy’s attempted blockade of the island nation. Upon learning that the U.S. was entering the war, Winston Churchill later wrote, “Being saturated and satiated with emotion and sensation, I went to bed and slept the sleep of the saved and thankful.” 
If the U.S. had not entered the war — if the U.S. had remained truly neutral — the United Kingdom would have been blockaded into submission. The Nazis would have cast their eyes east, at the Soviet Union, and poured resources into its submission. After a period of reconsolidation and strengthening, Hitler’s Navy would have extended its sphere of influence across the Atlantic, particularly south and toward Latin America. Meanwhile, America would have continued to face the threat of the Japanese in the Pacific.

In May 1941, FDR laid out the stakes of the conflict between the United States and Germany — months before the United States entered the war. He <a href="https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/radio-address-announcing-unlimited-national-emergency" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>: 
<blockquote>The Nazi world does not recognize any God except Hitler; for the Nazis are as ruthless as the Communists in the denial of God. What place has religion which preaches the dignity of the human being, the majesty of the human soul, in a world where moral standards are measured by treachery and bribery and fifth columnists? Will our children, too, wander off, goose-stepping in search of new gods?</blockquote>
The United States entered the war on December 7, 1941, with Pearl Harbor. Germany declared war on the United States on December 11, 1941. It took three years for the United States and its allies to put themselves in position for the liberation of the European continent across the English channel. Historians at the U.S. Naval Institute suggest that there needed to be four preconditions to a successful amphibious invasion of France: 
<ol>
<li>Naval superiority in the English Channel</li>
<li>Air superiority over the landing beaches and well inland</li>
<li>Enough troops to establish a beachhead and then match the enemy’s subsequent buildup</li>
<li>Enough shipping and landing craft to carry the troops to the landing points and reinforce them as required</li>
</ol>
Churchill believed the last two conditions were not fulfilled in 1943, <a href="https://www.usni.org/magazines/naval-history-magazine/2019/june/d-day-year-too-late">writing</a>, “I do not believe that 27 Anglo-American divisions are sufficient for Overlord [the name for the D-Day invasion] in view of the extraordinary fighting efficiency of the German Army and the much larger forces they could so readily bring to bear against our troops even if the landings were successfully accomplished.” 
That had changed by 1944. It was go-time for the largest amphibious invasion in the history of warfare. Almost 133,000 troops from the United States and their allies landed on D-Day. Casualties from these countries during the landing numbered 10,300. By June 30, over 850,000 men, 148,000 vehicles, and 570,000 tons of supplies had landed on the Normandy shores.
Eisenhower famously issued a <a href="https://www.archives.gov/milestone-documents/general-eisenhowers-order-of-the-day">letter</a> to the troops as D-Day was about to happen. He wrote: 
<blockquote>Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months.</blockquote>
Notice the language: no embarrassment about the use of Christian terminology. He continued: 
<blockquote>The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world. 
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.
But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory! 
I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory! 
Good Luck! Let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.</blockquote>
Notice the kind of language that is used, the language that has been completely lacking in the West pretty much since World War II, the language of total victory, the moral wherewithal to declare the moral superiority of the United States and its allies in the fight. 
FDR went on the radio the night of D-Day, and he issued a <a href="https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/prayer-d-day" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prayer</a>. Here is a part of it:

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith. They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard. For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. Success may not come with rushing speed, but we shall return again and again; and we know that by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph.</blockquote>
What exactly were the United States and our allies hoping to preserve? First and foremost, the interests of the United States and a free West, the religion of the West, preserving Christian values in the West. 
The average age of the men who stormed the beaches of Normandy was about 26. The men who died at Normandy were invading on behalf of their families, their country, and their churches. They were invading on behalf of the Constitution of the United States and its preservation. They were invading on behalf of Christian values in the face of Nazi paganism. Then, they would later fight the Cold War against Marxist paganism on behalf of Christian values. 
They were the Greatest Generation, in part because they were fighting for the greatest values.
In 1984, Ronald Reagan <a href="https://voicesofdemocracy.umd.edu/ronald-reagan-normandy-speech-point-du-hoc/">spoke</a> on the 40th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy. Veterans of D-Day were there. He stated: 
<blockquote>These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. These are the men who took the cliffs. These are the champions who helped free a continent. These are the heroes who helped end a war.</blockquote>
Reagan would <a href="https://www.reaganlibrary.gov/archives/speech/remarks-national-convention-veterans-foreign-wars-chicago-illinois">later</a> <a href="https://www.reaganlibrary.gov/archives/speech/remarks-presenting-medal-honor-master-sergeant-roy-p-benavidez">say:</a>
<blockquote>It was a very moving experience. They were what General Marshall called ‘our secret weapon. The best damn kids in the world.’ Where do we find such men? The answer came almost as quickly as I&#8217;d asked the question: Where we&#8217;ve always found them in this country. On the farms, the shops, the stores and the offices. They just are the product of the freest society the world has ever known.</blockquote>
Joe Biden arrived in Normandy yesterday. He <a href="https://www.rev.com/blog/transcripts/biden-delivers-remarks-from-80th-d-day-anniversary-ceremony">said</a>: 
<blockquote>We’re not far off from the time of the last living voices of those who fought and bled on D-Day will no longer be with us. So we have a special obligation. We cannot let what happened here be lost in the silence of the years to come. We must remember it. We must honor it and live it. And we must remember, the fact that they were heroes here that day does not absolve us from what we have to do today. Democracy is never guaranteed. Every generation must preserve it, defend it, and fight for it. That’s the test of the ages. In memory of those who fought here, died here, literally saved the world here, let us be worthy of their sacrifice.
Let us be the generation that when history is written about our time in 10, 20, 30, 50, 80 years from now, it’ll be said when the moment came, we met the moment, we stood strong, our alliances were made stronger, we saved democracy in our time as well. Thank you very much. And may God bless you all and may God protect our troops.</blockquote>
The real question for us on the 80th anniversary of D-Day is the question that Reagan asked: Where do we find such men? Because it honestly raises goosebumps to think of the extraordinary heroism and bravery of normal 18- and 19-year-old men storming beaches, running uphill into machine-gun fire in order to liberate a continent none of them had ever visited. 
Where do we find such men?
That&#8217;s a real question: How was the D-Day generation raised? Because that has a lot to do with the kind of men that were produced in the Greatest Generation.
The answer is: They were raised in church. Church membership in 1937 was at <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/341963/church-membership-falls-below-majority-first-time.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">73%</a>. Ninety-six percent of Americans, according to <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/193271/americans-believe-god.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gallup</a>, said they believed in God in 1944. A grand total of <a href="https://www.prb.org/resources/household-change-in-the-united-states/#:~:text=Changing%20Household%20Structure&amp;text=In%201940%2C%20married%20couples%20with,households%20accounted%20for%209%20percent." target="_blank" rel="noopener">4%</a> of all households in the United States were single-parent families in 1940. 
In other words, the men of the Greatest Generation were raised by two parents in churchgoing families that believed in God.
It turns out you cannot raise a great generation in a vacuum of values because you can&#8217;t raise a great generation without raising a good generation.
How are we doing today? Today, the American single motherhood rate is <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2022/03/11/rising-share-of-americans-see-women-raising-children-on-their-own-cohabitation-as-bad-for-society/#:~:text=The%20share%20of%20births%20to,somewhat%20by%20race%20and%20ethnicity." target="_blank" rel="noopener">41%</a>, 10 times the single motherhood rate in 1937. Only <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/341963/church-membership-falls-below-majority-first-time.aspx#:~:text=In%202020%2C%2047%25%20of%20Americans,2010%20and%2047%25%20in%202020." target="_blank" rel="noopener">47%</a> of Americans, a minority of Americans, are members of churches. The churches of today are significantly watered-down from the churches of the 1930s and 1940s, which means that a significant percentage of people who consider themselves members of churches aren&#8217;t actually receiving anything like Biblical values. Just <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/1412740/us-belief-in-god-by-party/#:~:text=According%20to%20a%20survey%20conducted,that%20they%20believed%20in%20God." target="_blank" rel="noopener">74%</a> of Americans say they believe in God and many of those Americans are actually quasi-agnostic and believe in something spiritual that doesn&#8217;t demand anything of them.
The United States has spent the four generations since D-Day removing all the supporting institutions of American life, exploding American values in the name of a heedless picture of emotive individualism in which your feelings are all that matters — whereas going to church instills in you a belief that you are part of something bigger and more important. 
Without those values and their supporting institutions, there is no more Greatest Generation.
Only an obnoxiously self-involved generation.

A cigar that was once smoked by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/winston-churchill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Winston Churchill</a> is set to be auctioned alongside a handwritten note and the jar it was once stored in. 
Churchill, the British prime minister who led the United Kingdom through most of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/world-war-ii" target="_blank" rel="noopener">World War II</a>, gave the cigar as a memento in August 1944 to Hugh Stonehewer-Bird, the consul general in Rabat, Morocco. 
&#8220;It&#8217;s amazing what turns up in glass jars. This is an iconic piece of memorabilia connected to one of Britain&#8217;s most famous prime ministers and the Second World War,” <a href="https://news.sky.com/story/amp/cigar-smoked-by-sir-winston-churchill-nearly-80-years-ago-up-for-auction-12893350" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Charles Hanson, the owner of the auction house selling the unique item. &#8220;Churchill was renowned for his love of cigars and occasionally gave them as gifts to people who had helped him in any way.”
The cigar has been kept in the possession of the Stonehewer-Bird family for over 75 years and will be sold at an auction house in Derbyshire. The guide price is expected to be between $750 to $1120. 
&#8220;The original handwritten label provides the provenance collectors like,” Hanson said. &#8220;We hope this item will excel under the hammer.&#8221;
Churchill, one of Britain’s most honored political figures, was frequently photographed with cigars, and it was <a href="https://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/a-gentleman-of-history-6006#:~:text=Churchill%20typically%20smoked%20between%20eight,often%20became%20mauled%20and%20frayed." target="_blank" rel="noopener">estimated</a> that he went through between eight to 10 cigars every day. He once defended his smoking habit after the king of Saudi Arabia informed him that he would not be allowed to drink or smoke around him.
“As I was the host at the luncheon I raised the matter at once, and said to the interpreter that if it was the religion of His Majesty to deprive himself of smoking and alcohol I must point out that my rule of life prescribed as an absolutely sacred rite smoking cigars and also the drinking of alcohol before, after and if need be during all meals and in the intervals between them,” he wrote in his memoirs.

Cigars by the famed prime minister have done well at auctions before, with one selling for over $26,000 in March. That record-breaking cigar was <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11922459/One-Sir-Winston-Churchills-cigars-sells-record-25-500-auction.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">one that</a> Churchill had given to Chequers Trust auditor Leonard Herbert Norman in 1953. 
“The cigar box was circulated for the second time. I didn&#8217;t feel equal to smoking another,” he wrote in his memoirs. &#8216;But I did take one and hastily put it unseen (I think) into an inner pocket and still have it today.”
Last year, a box of Churchill’s cigars <a href="https://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/winston-churchill-s-personal-cigars-sold-at-auction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sold</a> for nearly $20,000. The cigars, from Cuba, were labeled with his name and given to him by a New York businessman.

O&#8217;Donnell, during Wednesday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;The Last Word,&#8221; suggested that Fetterman&#8217;s apparent struggles in the aftermath of a stroke were no different than the physical issues that plagued Roosevelt after he battled polio myelitis at the age of 39. The only real difference in his mind was the fact that Roosevelt did not have cameras on him at all times.

O&#8217;Donnell began with a clip of Fetterman&#8217;s debate with Republican Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz — a debate that he noted many had said was &#8220;painful to watch&#8221; — before he launched into the comparison.
&#8220;While he was brilliantly winning World War II, Franklin Roosevelt once fell asleep in the oval office in the middle of signing his name to a letter. That was not painful to watch because no one got to see that,&#8221; O&#8217;Donnell began, noting that both Roosevelt and Churchill &#8220;had the good fortune&#8221; to lead their respective nations during a time when most of their day to day activities remained private: &#8220;Long before television news could cover their every move and long before Twitter could have people pumping out of their instant reactions to their public appearances.&#8221;
O&#8217;Donnell <a href="https://newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/kevin-tober/2022/10/26/msnbcs-odonnell-compares-john-fetterman-fdr-winston-churchill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">went on</a> to describe the lengths to which <a href="https://www.fdrlibrary.org/polio" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Roosevelt</a> went to ensure that the American people would never know that their president could not walk on his own — he often used a cane and leaned on an adviser if he had to make his way to a podium to speak, and had his personal wheelchair made from a regular kitchen chair so that it would look less out-of-place.
&#8220;Franklin Delano Roosevelt believed that it would be painful to watch him, being lifted in and out of a car by Secret Service agents so he never allowed cameras to capture that. Elaborate steps were taken when his train would arrive or depart so that he could be transferred from the car to the train, lifted in and out, without anyone seeing and without anyone thinking that it was painful to watch,&#8221; O&#8217;Donnell continued.
The MSNBC host told another story about Roosevelt for good measure, talking about a young girl who had noticed the president&#8217;s wheelchair and said that she would keep the president&#8217;s secret.
&#8220;Painful to watch quickly became an oft-repeated phrase on Twitter last night during the Pennsylvania Senate campaign debate because Democratic candidate John Fetterman suffered a stroke this spring and has not fully recovered 100 percent of his verbal fluency,&#8221; O&#8217;Donnell concluded.

On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to the British Parliament via teleconference and received a standing ovation for his inspiring words. 
He discussed what Ukraine has gone through over the past 13 days as Russia invaded and attacked the country. Zelensky also requested a “no-fly zone” be established over Ukraine. 
Zelensky <a href="https://www.axios.com/zelensky-churchill-uk-parliament-ukraine-7af05f9e-58e8-457c-a636-74706760f7ec.html?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=editorial&amp;utm_content=world-zelensky">mirrored</a> British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in his famous June 1940 speech during World War II, saying, “We will not give up, and we will not lose. We will fight till the end — at sea, in the air, we will continue fighting for our land whatever the cost. We will fight in the forests, in the fields, on the shores, in the streets.”
“The question for us now is to be or not to be,” Zelensky said, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/03/08/zelensky-uk-parliament-address-war-ukraine/">reportedly</a> echoing Shakespeare. “I can give you a definitive answer: It’s definitely to be.”
He also asked the United Kingdom to continue with the sanctions, state that Russia is a &#8220;terrorist state,&#8221; and &#8220;make sure our Ukrainian skies are safe.”
“We are looking for your help, for the help of the civilized countries,” he <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/international/597341-zelensky-to-uk-parliament-recognize-russia-as-a-terrorist-state">noted</a>. “We are thankful for this help &#8230; please increase the pressure of sanctions against [Russia], and please recognize this country as a terrorist state, and please make sure that our Ukrainian skies are safe.”
“Please make sure that you do what needs to be done and what is stipulated by the greatness of your country,” he added.
He received a standing ovation before and after he made his remarks, and members voiced the need to support Ukraine and put aside political differences. 
&#8220;Never before in all our centuries of our parliamentary democracy has the House listened to such an address,&#8221; U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson <a href="https://twitter.com/BBCPolitics/status/1501247924080103424?s=20&amp;t=9bianizMdOP9fm8mWtbVmg">said</a> following the speech. &#8220;In a great European capital, now within range of Russian guns, President Volodymyr Zelensky is standing firm for democracy and for freedom. In his righteous defense, I believe he has moved the hearts of everybody in this House.” 
Johnson said the U.K. is going to take action to end the importing of Russian oil. 
“I speak for the whole House, when I say that Britain and our allies are determined to press on, to press on with supplying our Ukrainian friends with the weapons they need to defend their homeland … to press on with tightening the economic vice around Vladimir Putin … and we will employ every method that we can, diplomatic, humanitarian and economic &#8230; until Vladimir Putin has failed in this disastrous venture and Ukraine is free once more,” he <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/international/597341-zelensky-to-uk-parliament-recognize-russia-as-a-terrorist-state">said</a>.
In a video posted to Telegram on Tuesday, Zelensky said, “It’s been 13 days we’ve been hearing promises, 13 days we’ve been told we’ll be helped in the air, that there will be planes, that they will be delivered to us.” He suggested that “those who have not secured the Ukrainian skies from the Russian assassins” hold some responsibility for the resulting number of people killed.
On Tuesday, President Joe Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-announces-ban-on-russian-oil-imports-in-bid-to-hold-putin-accountable">announced</a> a ban on the U.S. importing Russian oil and natural gas, stating that he is “targeting the main artery of Russia’s economy.”
“Russian oil will no longer be accepted at U.S. ports,” the president said during remarks at the White House. “We will not be part of subsidizing Putin’s war.”
“The president said his decision comes after consulting with European allies, although he said some are not able to join the U.S. in banning Russian oil. Still, the European Commission (E.U.) said it plans to reduce imports of Russian energy by two-thirds, even though it gets 40% of it from Russia. Zelensky Mirrors Churchill In Speech To U.K. Parliament: ‘We Will Fight In The Forests, In The Fields, On The Shores, In The Streets’

The names of Winston Churchill, the British prime minister who guided Britain through World War II, and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling have been axed as school ‘house’ names at one British school in an attempt to promote diversity. 
According <a href="https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/uk/school-drops-winston-churchill-and-jk-rowling-from-house-names-in-diversity-push-41066616.html">to</a> the Belfast Telegraph, “Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School in Richmond has renamed houses honouring Britain’s wartime leader and Harry Potter author after footballer Marcus Rashford and nurse Mary Seacole.”
Churchill, who at one point stood nearly alone against the encroachments of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, will be removed, and Rashford, a 24-year-old soccer player for Manchester United will take his place.
Last month, a newsletter was sent out to explain the decision to cut Churchill and Rowling’s names. It explained how students at the primary school were “keen” to be “more diverse.” 
“The children across school have been keen to change some of the names of the school houses to be more diverse,” the school explained, “We are pleased to be able to announce the name changes during Black History Month. Churchill has been replaced by Rashford and Rowling by Seacole.”
The school’s headteacher explained that the changing of the names was something that students at the school started thinking about last year. 
“The changing of our school’s house names was an activity that our children began discussing last year as they did not feel the names reflected the diverse community of our school,” Alison Bateman said. 
According to the Daily Mail, the once-beloved Churchill has <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10216119/Church-England-school-CANCELS-Winston-Churchill-JK-Rowling.html">come</a> under fire in recent years in England, with even pictures of the former prime minister being taken off of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, which will also be renamed.
Rowling, the author of the bestselling Harry Potter books, has also drawn a lot of criticism to date. The ire toward her is because of comments and positions she took on transgenderism. 
Both Rowling and Churchill were targeted at British schools earlier this year as well. 
Seaford Head School in East Sussex in February removed the names of the two from ‘houses’ after students complained about them being ‘intolerant.’  According to <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/02/09/school-drops-winston-churchill-jk-rowling-house-names/">The Telegraph</a>, their names would be replaced by “new titles based on local topography.” 
Students accused Churchill of “torture” and racism and faulted Rowling as not a “suitable representative” because of her comments about transgenderism. 
“Churchill was a figure who promoted racism and inequality, unfairly imprisoning and torturing many,” said students of the wartime leader. Historians have hit back at claims against Churchill and defended him from criticism. 
“Parents of children at Seaford School, and anyone considering sending their children there in future, need to know that the historical knowledge there is so abysmally low that the teachers believe that Winston Churchill committed crimes of which he was in fact entirely innocent,” said historian Andrew Roberts. 
Roberts added, “Instead of trying to combat woke ignorance, they have submitted to it without trying to discover the truth. Churchill is in fact an incredibly inspirational figure for youth.”

British School Cancels Winston Churchill, Replaces ‘House’ Name With 24-Year-Old Soccer Player

Jacobin, the American socialist quarterly magazine, published an article in 2018 defending protestors who had previously desecrated a statue of Winston Churchill. In the BLM insurrection of summer 2020, it has once again become fashionable to smear Churchill, the Prime Minister who brought Britain through World War II, with accusations of racism. And so Jacobin has re-upped its hit piece as a way of saying: we’re with the rioters.
The article is called “<a href="https://jacobinmag.com/2018/01/winston-churchill-british-empire-colonialism/">The Real Winston Churchill</a>,” and it faults the beloved British hero for any number of supposed sins, mostly having to do with racism and imperialism. Churchill was known for his loud mouth, it’s true, and some of his comments can seem off-color in hindsight. But that’s not what Jacobin really wants him taken down for: they’re upset that he relished victory in war.
“Everywhere one looks,” writes the author, Richard Seymour, “one finds Churchill dripping blood from his mouth. He was fanatical about violence.”
One might pause here to note that the violence about which Churchill was fanatical was against Hitler and his allies — i.e., the murderous, authoritarian, anti-Semitic scum of the earth. Jacobin: condemning antifascism to own the British aristocracy. Nice going, chuckleheads. But wait: there’s more!
Near the beginning of the article, the author quotes Richard Burton, an actor who played Churchill in the movie <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjh_Pmmhs7rAhVXJzQIHd2ABkgQFjAAegQIExAB&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FThe_Gathering_Storm_(2002_film)&amp;usg=AOvVaw0rMBk94C1DyuJM9zfF-wUC">The Gathering Storm</a> (2002). In preparing for the role, Burton became repulsed by Churchill’s entitlement and his vindictive fury against his enemies in war. “What man of sanity,” asked Burton, “would say on hearing of the atrocities committed by the Japanese against British and Anzac prisoners of war, ‘We shall wipe them out, every one of them, men, women, and children. There shall not be a Japanese left on the face of the earth’? Such simple-minded cravings for revenge leave me with a horrified but reluctant awe for such single-minded and merciless ferocity.”
Well, I never! Such simple-minded cravings for revenge! Just let me pour myself another glass of port as I sniff disapprovingly at Churchill’s primitive ferocity from the comfort of my dressing room. Quelle horreur! The man who saved the free world was not pristinely decorous in his sentiments toward a Japanese army that enslaved, starved, and beat its captives half to death! Read <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Unbroken-World-Survival-Resilience-Redemption/dp/0812974492">Unbroken</a> (2010), the story of an American POW in Japanese captivity, if you want to hear about “merciless ferocity.” Imagine having the absolute gall to claim, from the safety of a Western world made free by none other than Churchill himself, that he should be faulted for having run his mouth.
Seymour’s list of Churchillian sins goes on: he was impressed with Mussolini and did not immediately condemn Italian fascism, for example. The same is <a href="https://claremontreviewofbooks.com/the-original-fascist/">true</a> of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, of course, and any number of other elegant Democrat intellectuals who fell all over themselves for il Duce. Not that you’ll read about that in Seymour’s article. “Mussolini has the same opponents as FDR,” said Roosevelt’s pet economist Rexford Tugwell, “but he controls the press, which prevents them from daily spreading their nonsense.” Everyone — leftists especially — was unsure about Mussolini at first, but of course, what’s a little nuance like that got to do with fighting for social justice?
In reality, of course, Winston Churchill did more good before breakfast at the age of 20 than all the BLM thugs, Antifa radicals, and Jacobin editors in the world could hope to do in 20 lifetimes. If you really want to feel unworthy, read Churchill’s 1930 memoir, <a href="https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/My-Early-Life/Winston-Churchill/9780684823454">My Early Life</a>, in which he explains how as a young man he fought courageously in the British army, made a daring escape from enemy captivity, and penned masterful book-length reports on his experiences all the while. “You have not an hour to lose,” writes Churchill to the young men of rising generations. “You must take your places in Life&#8217;s fighting line. Twenty to twenty-five! These are the years!” Rarely have I felt more inadequate than when reading those words at the (apparently) ripe old age of 28.
What is actually happening here is that the children of the West, grown fat and happy after long years of prosperity won for them by men like Churchill, have lost all taste for the derring-do that makes such men both toweringly great and yes, a little rough around the edges sometimes.
The name of Churchill will be emblazoned on the hearts of all free and good people long after the miserable scolds at Jacobin are done nitpicking at him and the sniveling little brownshirts of BLM are done tearing down his statues. These moral cowards cannot even begin to measure up to Churchill, and so they hate him — that is all their pitiful sputtering amounts to. They may be having their moment now. But to <a href="https://winstonchurchill.org/resources/speeches/1940-the-finest-hour/we-shall-fight-on-the-beaches/">paraphrase</a> Churchill himself: for as long as we live, we will fight them, and we will never, never, never surrender.

KLAVAN: Why Small Men Hate Churchill

Left-wing activist and chair of the Lambeth &#8220;independent&#8221; police advisory board Lorraine Jones revealed live on-air Saturday that she doesn&#8217;t know who late Prime Minister Winston Churchill was in an embarrassing exchange with Cathy Newman, telling the host, &#8220;I haven&#8217;t personally met him.&#8221;
Churchill led Britain during World War II in its battle against the Nazis and has been dead since 1965.
Newman started the exchange by asking Jones her thoughts on the &#8220;far-right protesters&#8221; protecting monuments, including one of Churchill, from activists attempting to destroy them.

&#8220;They were not guarding the Churchill statute,&#8221; Jones claimed in a fiery response. &#8220;The thuggery which we all witness was horrifying and totally unacceptable, so that was just an excuse &#8230;&#8221;
Last week, statues of Churchill and former President Abraham Lincoln were <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/06/the-new-iconoclasts/">vandalized</a> by “anti-fascist” and “antiracist” rioters in London.
&#8220;I think that what needs to happen,&#8221; Jones continued, &#8220;which I know has already started, we need to look at the people that are being placed on a high pedestal in this society, the reasons why they are, and honestly and rightfully [decide] if they are supposed to be removed.&#8221;
&#8220;And the sooner the government can make the decisions to take down the statues which shouldn&#8217;t be there, place them in a museum, like there are some people have requested, the better,&#8221; Jones added.

&#8220;Should the statue of Churchill be there or not?&#8221; Newman asked.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve heard many arguments on both sides; some say that he&#8217;s a racist some say that he&#8217;s a hero,&#8221; said Jones. &#8220;I haven&#8217;t personally met him, but what I would say is that that question of whether he should remain should be put to the community.&#8221;
Again, Churchill died in 1965, a fact Newman neglected to tell Jones.

The host then asked the activist what her specific thoughts on Churchill were. &#8220;What would you say though if you were asked about the statue of Churchill?&#8221;

&#8220;Well, I&#8217;m going to be honest, I haven&#8217;t done a lot of history work with Churchill, but if I was to do that and it will be based on my findings,&#8221; Jones admitted.
Editor-in-Chief of The National Pulse Raheem Kassam commented on the exchange, &#8220;A leading London activist and local police advisory committee member doesn’t know who Sir Winston Churchill is,&#8221; he wrote.
&#8220;Of course she (Jones) doesn&#8217;t,&#8221; Daily Wire podcast host Michael Knowles <a href="https://twitter.com/michaeljknowles/status/1272363902756519936">responded</a>.
&#8220;None of the people who want to tear down statues of Robert E. Lee know anything about Lee,&#8221; he posited. &#8220;None of the people who want to tear down statues of Christopher Columbus know anything about Columbus.&#8221;
&#8220;They just want to tear stuff down,&#8221; Knowles added.
