Star Trek legend William Shatner had a hilarious response Wednesday to Twitter CEO Elon Musk&#8217;s plan to charge $8 a month to those verified Twitter users with blue check marks.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/william-shatner">91-year-old</a> actor told one follower that he had zero plans to pay for &#8220;false status&#8221; on the social media platform when he already has prestige in real life.
&#8220;I think the $8 is to submit a complaint,&#8221; Shatner <a href="https://twitter.com/WilliamShatner/status/1587819482566770691?s=20&amp;amp;t=mQpafXNIWlTs0e2jol-ipA">tweeted</a> to his 2.5 million followers. &#8220;To answer your question if I would pay for a blue check? No.&#8221;

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/william-shatner">William Shatner</a> had some observations following his trip to outer space, and they weren’t very positive due to his concerns about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/climate-change">climate change</a>.
The 91-year-old Canadian <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">actor</a> reflected on a space tourism trip he took last year as part of his new memoir, “Boldly Go: Reflections on a Life of Awe and Wonder.” While other space travelers usually say positive things about the trip, the “Star Trek” alum recalls feelings of grief.
“Stars exploding years ago, their light traveling to us years later; black holes absorbing energy; satellites showing us entire galaxies in areas thought to be devoid of matter entirely… all of that has thrilled me for years…,” the passage begins, per <a href="https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/william-shatner-space-boldly-go-excerpt-1235395113/">Variety</a>.  “But when I looked in the opposite direction, into space, there was no mystery, no majestic awe to behold… all I saw was death.&#8221;
“I saw a cold, dark, black emptiness,” Shatner continued. “It was unlike any blackness you can see or feel on Earth. It was deep, enveloping, all-encompassing. I turned back toward the light of home. I could see the curvature of Earth, the beige of the desert, the white of the clouds and the blue of the sky. It was life. Nurturing, sustaining, life. Mother Earth. Gaia. And I was leaving her,” the excerpt reads.
“Everything I had thought was wrong,” the passage continues. “Everything I had expected to see was wrong.”
The actor went on to describe how his negative feelings stemmed from his belief that humans are destroying the planet.
“It was among the strongest feelings of grief I have ever encountered,” he wrote. “The contrast between the vicious coldness of space and the warm nurturing of Earth below filled me with overwhelming sadness. Every day, we are confronted with the knowledge of further destruction of Earth at our hands: the extinction of animal species, of flora and fauna . . . things that took five billion years to evolve, and suddenly we will never see them again because of the interference of mankind.”
Despite expecting the journey to be thrilling, the actor recalled the trip as having a somber feeling. 
“It filled me with dread. My trip to space was supposed to be a celebration; instead, it felt like a funeral.”
Previously, Shatner had <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/10/business/william-shatner-new-book-boldly-go-scn/index.html">discussed</a> his book with CNN and said he’s a “verbal ecologist” who is adamant about getting the message out about man-made climate change.
“The possibilities of an apocalypse are so real. It’s hard to convince people — and especially certain political people — that this is not on our doorstep any longer. It’s in the house,” he told the publication at the time.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk responded Saturday to a request from legendary &#8220;Star Trek&#8221; actor William Shatner — who wanted to know whether he might have a chance at becoming the new &#8220;face&#8221; of Twitter.
Shatner <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/dump-the-bird-william-shatner-says-elon-musk-is-adorbs-claims-he-wants-to-be-twitters-new-face/">jumped into the conversation</a> after a number of celebrities and left-leaning pundits complained about Musk&#8217;s deal to purchase the social media platform — initially to reassure his fans and followers that he had no intention of fleeing Twitter as some others had threatened to do.

Some, like author Eric Michael Garcia (&#8220;We&#8217;re Not Broken: Changing the Autism Conversation&#8221;) criticized Musk because of Shatner&#8217;s outspoken support for Autism Speaks.

But a number were quick to jump on board with the fictional captain.Dr. Sebastian Gorka tweeted, &#8220;I’m with Capt. Kirk. #DumptheBird.&#8221;
Warpcore founder Sahil Mohan Gupta noted that adopting the intentionally apolitical Shatner as Twitter&#8217;s new face might actually fall right in line with Musk&#8217;s <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/what-does-elon-musk-buying-twitter-really-mean/">stated goal</a> of neutrality.
&#8220;Captain Kirk as the face of Twitter will be the ultimate Kobayashi Maru for the extreme right and the extreme left, hence will abide by the @elonmusk maxim of irritating them equally hence being truly neutral as a social media platform,&#8221; he said.
Musk said that his vision for Twitter was an arena where speech was truly free. He said he planned to achieve that vision by not reaching beyond the law — and by extension, beyond the voters’ wishes — to place limits on speech. He also advocated for the implementation of rules that annoyed the extremes on both the left and the right equally.
“By ‘free speech,’ I simply mean that which matches the law. I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law. If people want less free speech, they will ask government to pass laws to that effect. Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people,” Musk <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1519036983137509376">tweeted</a> earlier in the week.

Musk explained that his goal in taking over Twitter was making sure that it remained a free speech zone. Wil Wheaton has a memoir coming out in April that’s already getting a lot of buzz. One story from “Still Just a Geek: An Annotated Memoir” recounts how the actor had an unfortunate encounter with “Star Trek” legend William Shatner when he was just a teen. According to Wheaton, Shatner was rude to him but later sent him a handwritten apology.
Wheaton was 16 and playing Wesley Crusher on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” when he found out that the original “Star Trek” cast would be filming nearby, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/03/31/wil-wheaton-remembers-william-shatner-a-a-real-jerk-on-set">reported</a>. The young fan was excited yet nervous to meet one of his idols.
The “Big Bang Theory” alum recalled how he was wearing his gray “acting ensign” spacesuit when he approached Shatner. 
“It took about eight steps for my confidence to evaporate,” Wheaton recalled in the book.
“So you’re the kid on that show?” Shatner asked.
“He seemed annoyed,” Wheaton continued. “My throat and mouth were dry, and my palms were sweating. My heart pounded in my ears, as I answered, ‘Uh, yes sir. My name’s Wil.&#8217;”
Wheaton claimed Shatner ignored his outstretched hand, then went on to make fun of his outfit.
“‘What is that, your spacesuit?’ he said, and made a sound that was somewhere between a laugh and a cough,” the actor wrote. He recalled feeling lightheaded.
“‘I said, ‘What do you do over there?’ he asked,” Wheaton continued. “There was a challenge in his voice.”
When Wheaton said he was an acting ensign who sometimes pilots the ship, Shatner allegedly replied, “Well, I’d never let a kid come onto my bridge.&#8217;”
News of the incident spread and other actors made it a point to commiserate with Wheaton, sharing their own stories of being mocked or dismissed by Captain Kirk. 
Wheaton wrote about how Brent Spiner, who played Data on “Next Generation,” told him that Shatner wore a toupee. Michael Dorn apparently offered to beat up the rude star. Jonathan Frakes, who played Capt. William Riker, said, “To hell with him.”
Then Wheaton said he was called into “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry’s office. The showrunner said, “Wil, Bill Shatner is an a**, don’t you worry about him, okay? I am so proud to have you on my show. Don’t you ever forget that.”
The “Stand By Me” star said he got an apology from Shatner the next day.
He said he found an envelope sitting on his dressing room table addressed “To Master Wil Wheaton” “From the Office of William Shatner.”
The message read, “Dear Wil, You are a fine young actor, and I would be honored to have you on my bridge any day. Sincerely yours, Bill.” 
Wheaton recalled how Roddenberry called him on the phone soon after. 
“‘I spoke with Bill Shatner yesterday, and he should be dropping a note off for you today,” the showrunner said.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Wheaton wrote. “Gene Roddenberry, the Great Bird of the Galaxy and creator of ‘Star Trek,’ had called WILLIAM F***ING SHATNER, Captain James T. Kirk and director of ‘Star Trek V,’ and asked him to apologize to me, Wil Wheaton, 16-year-old acting ensign and drooling fanboy.”
He concluded, “Of all the wonderful gifts Gene gave me across the years, that is one of the most fondly remembered, because I know that without Gene’s intervention that note would never have been written.”

William Shatner spoke to Adam Carolla about his &#8220;frightening&#8221; and &#8220;extraordinary&#8221; trip to outer space as the two got into a heated debated about government&#8217;s role in saving the earth, origins of &#8220;Let&#8217;s Go Brandon&#8221; and so much more.
During the latest episode of &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/adam-carolla">Adam Carolla&#8217;s Truth Yeller</a>&#8221; on the Daily Wire, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/adam-carolla-says-reason-why-kids-have-been-forced-to-mask-in-schools-is-much-worse-than-covid">Carolla</a> praised DW for &#8220;stepping up and standing behind free speech&#8221; as he shared that more and more tech companies like Twitter are participating in the cancel culture.
&#8220;And Neil Young can kiss my ass,&#8221; the host of the show said, referencing how the singer had issued a threat to pull his music from Spotify unless they removed Joe Rogan from platform. However, despite pulling a number of older episodes from the platform, Spotify did nothing to sever ties with Rogan.
Adam then introduced Shatner, the 90-year-old legendary actor, who he said was the oldest man to ever travel to space as he cracked a joke about how his father, who&#8217;s the same age as the superstar, wouldn&#8217;t be leaving this planet any time soon.
The &#8220;Star Trek&#8221; star said the &#8220;worst thing about going into space&#8221; was having to go &#8220;up the 11 flights&#8221; of stairs to get onboard Jeff Bezos&#8217; Blue Origin rocket. It starts at the 20:37  minute mark.
&#8220;So, space what was that like?&#8221; the former TV host asked the sci-fi actor.
&#8220;It was frightening,&#8221; Shatner admitted of being on board the trip to outer space. &#8220;Truly it was an extraordinary experience.&#8221;
&#8220;All I saw was blackness and death,&#8221; he added, about what he saw in front of him as he left earth. &#8220;And I looked back and that was life [earth]. And one other thing I saw the beginning of the circumference of the earth&#8230; I could continue that circle and I&#8217;m looking at the rock. I&#8217;m looking at everything we live on.&#8221;
The actor said after he touched down back on earth he tried to figure out why the experience had been so emotional. He said it was then two things hit him.  The first was the &#8220;truth of the unity of nature&#8221; and our belonging to earth &#8220;which is our only home and the way that we&#8217;re destroying it.&#8221;
And second, he said was about &#8220;how small the earth&#8221; is and &#8220;how small we are&#8221; on this small earth.
&#8220;And then upon further reflection &#8230; but how awesome it is that we can reflect on how little we are on this little rock,&#8221; William explained. &#8220;We can look at the majesty of nature and that&#8217;s a human gift.&#8221;
The &#8220;Boston Legal&#8221; star then found himself in hot water with the audience when he said people are &#8220;destroying&#8221; the earth and that we need &#8220;government to fix the problem&#8221; of getting &#8220;carbon and methane out of the air.&#8221;
Shatner said it&#8217;s Bezos dream to get &#8220;polluting industries up into space.&#8221;
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/adam-carolla-blasts-bill-maher-audience-after-clapping-for-return-to-normal-shut-the-f-up-and-admit-you-were-wrong">former host</a> of &#8220;The Man Show&#8221; came back with his thoughts that he&#8217;s not &#8220;relying on the government to do&#8221; it and called on people like Elon Musk and Bezos to. The comments drew cheers from the crowd.
Shatner said Bezos and Musk are doing it but that we &#8220;have to rely on government&#8221; and got booed by crowd.
&#8220;But only the government has the power … the enormity … in combination with you as an articulate spokesperson for the people,&#8221; Shatner argued through the booing.
&#8220;Bill, let me give you a tip, if you ever get in trouble with the crowd just yell &#8216;Let&#8217;s Go Brandon,&#8221; Carolla replied, as the two discussed the origin of the saying.
&#8220;You know the origin of that right,&#8221; Shatner replied. &#8220;It&#8217;s f*** you Biden,&#8221; Shatner replied. &#8220;Have I endeared myself &#8230;?&#8221;
Later in the show, Carolla gave credit to the reporter covering the NASCAR race who he said was quick on her feet when the crowd was chanting &#8220;f*** Joe Biden&#8221; in the background and she said they were saying &#8220;let&#8217;s go Brandon&#8221; for driver Brandon Brown instead.
Near the end of the show during the Truth Yelling segment, Carolla let loose on what he called so-called &#8220;homeless advocates&#8221; who he said are doing &#8220;jack squat.&#8221;
&#8220;Have they helped the homeless?&#8221; the former host of &#8220;Loveline&#8221; asked the audience, as he compared the so-called advocates to what Al Sharpton does for the black community.
&#8220;How can you solve a problem if you don&#8217;t understand the problem,&#8221; Carolla explained, noting the advocates aren&#8217;t honest about the face of homeless being &#8220;a junky insane person&#8221; not a single mom out of work as he said they claim.
&#8220;Homelessness I think about, it&#8217;s the title,&#8221; he added. &#8220;We got to start thinking about. It does not have to do with not having a home. It&#8217;s like gun violence&#8230;that has to do with violent people not guns.  Gun violence is the same as homeless. The problems isn&#8217;t the homes, the problem isn&#8217;t the guns.&#8221;

William Shatner — the star of the original Star Trek TV series as Captain Kirk — became the oldest person in history to have traveled to space after his journey on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin spacecraft successfully reached the edge of space on Wednesday morning.
&#8220;Everybody in the world needs to do this,&#8221; the Canadian actor <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-58885555">told</a> Bezos after the Blue Origin craft safely returned to Earth. &#8220;It was unbelievable.&#8221;
“It’s just — there is Mother Earth, life and comfort down there and up there,” he <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/10/13/blue-origin-blasts-star-trek-actor-william-shatner-to-space/">said</a> gesturing upward, “is it just death? I don’t know.”
“What you see is black and what you see down there is light.”
&#8220;What you have given me is the most profound experience,” Shatner added, through tears. “I&#8217;m so filled with emotion about what just happened. I hope I never recover from this. I hope I can retain what I feel now. I don&#8217;t want to lose it.&#8221;
As Blue Origin announced on their <a href="https://www.blueorigin.com/news/new-shepard-ns-18-mission-updates">website</a>, they “successfully completed its second human spaceflight on board New Shepard on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.”
“The flight included four astronauts, Dr. Chris Boshuizen, Glen de Vries, Audrey Powers, and William Shatner, as well as thousands of postcards from Blue Origin’s foundation, Club for the Future,” the release continued.
“At Blue Origin, we are motivated by the dreamers that inspire us and the builders who turn those dreams into reality. Today’s crew represented both dreamers and builders. We had the honor of flying our very own Audrey Powers, Vice President of New Shepard Operations, who fulfilled a lifelong dream to go to space and has been an integral part of building New Shepard. Our two customers, Chris Boshuizen and Glen de Vries, have built their own successful ventures and have now realized their own dreams of space travel. And, as everyone knows, William Shatner has played an important role in describing and imagining the wonders of [the] universe and inspired many of us to pursue a career in the space industry,” said Bob Smith, CEO of Blue Origin. “This flight was another step forward in flying astronauts safely and often. It’s an incredible team and we are just getting started.”

William Shatner, 90, who played the captain of the Starship Enterprise on &#8220;Star Trek,&#8221;  blasted into the final frontier on Wednesday aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin capsule and rocket.
The rocket launched at 9:49 a.m. CST, reaching more than 50,000 feet in just one minute. The craft hit a top speed of more than 2,200 mph.
The capsule and booster separated a few minutes later and the craft eventually reached a top altitude of 351,185, a little more than 66.5 miles off the surface of the Earth. On descent, the craft created a loud sonic boom.
Three small parachutes then popped out, pulling along three main red, white, and blue chutes.
&#8220;That was unlike anything they described,&#8221; Shatner could be heard saying as the capsule neared the ground. &#8220;That&#8217;s unlike anything I&#8217;ve ever experienced.&#8221;
At 9:59 a.m., just 10 minutes after launch, the capsule touched down safely.
&#8220;Not only is it different from what you thought, it happens so quickly,&#8221; Shatner said once on the ground. &#8220;Everybody in the world needs to do this. Everybody in the world needs to see this.&#8221;
Shatner said it was weird to be covered in blue, but then sink into black. Looking down from that altitude, he said, &#8220;there is mother Earth, and there is,&#8221; he said, pointing up, &#8220;is it death? I don&#8217;t know.&#8221;
To Bezos, he said, &#8220;what you have given me is the most profound experience,&#8221; he said, choking up with emotion before hugging Bezos and wiping his eyes. &#8220;I am overwhelmed.&#8221;
Before the launch, Blue Origin explained why Shatner was included in the NS-18 crew.
“William Shatner’s career as an actor, director, producer, writer, recording artist, and horseman has spanned 60 years,” the company said in a <a href="https://www.blueorigin.com/news/shatner-powers-announced-ns18">press release</a>. “He originated the role of ‘Captain James T. Kirk’ in 1966 for the television series Star Trek. The series spawned a feature film franchise where Shatner returned as Captain Kirk in seven of the Star Trek movies, one of which he directed. He has long wanted to travel to space and will become the oldest person to have flown to space.”
When the flight was announced, Shatner said: &#8220;I’ve heard about space for a long time now. I’m taking the opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle.&#8221;
“So now I can say something. Yes, it’s true; I’m going to be a ‘rocket man!’” Shatner tweeted following the announcement.
Bezos, who founded Amazon, blasted into space aboard his New Shepard rocket back in July, but the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has tightened its rules on who qualifies to be deemed an “astronaut.&#8221; Although Bezos and the crew of Blue Origin soared to 66.5 miles above the Earth — technically qualifying for a trip into outer space — the fully autonomous New Shepard rocket ship means they weren’t really “astronauts.”
“In order to qualify, they have to make a contribution to the flight and to human space flight safety while traveling beyond the 50 miles mark defined as space by the FAA,” the Daily Mail <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-9817863/Jeff-Bezos-NOT-astronaut-FAA-changes-rules-awards-astronaut-wings.html">reported</a>. “With the Blue Origin New Shepard spacecraft controlled entirely from the ground, with no input from the crew on board, the new FAA criteria wasn’t met.”
But the pilots of a Virgin Galactic craft, who flew the space plane to 53 miles above the Earth on July 10, along with chief astronaut Beth Moses, who flew solo on a test flight, have been awarded the new commercial FAA astronaut wings. Yet no one from the Blue Origin team qualified.
To be considered to have flown into space, one must pass the Kármán line. The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), an international body for aeronautics and astronautics that sets standards and keeps records, defines the Kármán line as the altitude of 100 kilometers — or 62 miles (about 330,000 feet) — above Earth’s mean sea level.

On Monday, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin announced that Star Trek star, William Shatner, will travel to space on the next Blue Origin flight. Shatner, who is 90-years-old, will be joined by Audrey Powers, Blue Origin’s vice president of mission and flight operations, as well as crewmates Chris Boshuizen and Glen de Vries. The flight will depart from Launch Site One on October 12.

In July, Bezos flew into space “on his company’s first flight with passengers aboard, becoming the second billionaire to use his own spacecraft to become an astronaut.”
As <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/billionaire-bezos-blasts-into-space-soars-to-66-5-miles-high-lands-safely-back-on-earth">The Daily Wire</a> reported at the time, “The 10:10 flight went off without a hitch, blasting off right on schedule, soaring to an apogee of 351,210 feet (66.51 miles), then plunging back to Earth.”
In a status check of all passengers after the capsule landed in a plume of dust, the Amazon founder said “astronaut Bezos: best day ever.”
“It’s dark up here!” said Wally Funk, one of 13 female pilots who passed the same tests as NASA’s all-male astronaut corps in the early 1960s but never got a chance to go to space. On the way back to Earth, she exclaimed: “2,000 miles per hour! Oh my word!”
Bezos was accompanied into space by three people: his brother, Mark, an 82-year-old aviation pioneer from Texas, and an 18-year-old physics student from the Netherlands — the oldest and youngest people ever to blast into space.

‘I’m Going To Be A Rocket Man!’ Star Trek’s William Shatner Is Going To Space

Few would deny the modern “Star Trek” universe is hopelessly woke.
The team pulling the “Star Trek” strings today <a href="https://www.startrek.com/videos/we-support-black-lives-matter">quickly bowed down to Black Lives Matter</a>. That’s above and beyond the new “Trek’s” overt progressive agenda, from re-imagining Sulu as a gay man to episodes appealing to social justice scolds.
As <a href="https://decider.com/2018/02/22/star-trek-discovery-is-woke-af/">Decider</a> puts it, &#8220;Discovery has a lot to say about The Way We Live Now. It’s the most on-message TV show this side of Black-ish or Broad City. They might as well call it Star Trek: The Woke Generation.&#8221;
Sir Patrick Stewart, Mr. “Make It So” himself, described his “Picard” series as a response to both <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/patrick-stewart-star-trek-picard-a-response-to-the-fed-world-of-brexit-trump">President Donald Trump’s existence and Brexit.</a>
Most cultural observers say the original “Star Trek” series was uniformly progressive, too. They have many solid points, from episodes about race relations to the concept of a UN-style body “boldly going where no man had gone before.” (That patriarchal phrase got the heave ho in recent years.)
The series famously featured TV’s first interracial kiss between William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols. That’s real progress, the opposite of virtue signaling.
It’s comical that “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry’s vision of a multi-race crew living in harmony suddenly clashes with the modern Left’s identity politics.
Still, the show’s progressive roots are considered canon … like furry Tribbles and Montgomery Scott’s dramatic time estimates.
Look closer.
A number of classic “Trek” episodes spotlight conservative themes and concepts above and beyond ‘60s era platitudes. In fact, some of the stories wouldn’t pass muster today if a “Trek” scribe sent them to the powers that be for approval.
1. “Charlie X” (Ep. 2, Season 1)
What happens when a young man (Robert Walker), dizzy from hormones and zero family ties, can literally make anything he wishes a reality? His emotions take over, with disaster and death the natural byproduct.
Enter Captain James T. Kirk (Shatner), the Alpha Male figure poor Charlie needs.
Kirk can’t fully control Charlie, but he commands the lad’s respect and buys the crew time to deal with his god-like powers. The unchecked Charlie has no one to explain life to him, let alone place vital boundaries in his path. Without a father figure he revolts, not unlike what we’re seeing nationwide as the spoiled children who make up the Antifa crowd drag statues to the ground.
Kirk’s uber-masculine guidance can’t prevent a sad ending for Charlie, but the captain ensures no more Starfleet personnel will die by Charlie’s hands.

2. “The City on the Edge of Forever” (Ep. 28, Season 1)
Kirk falls in love, hard, during this time travel episode considered the series’ zenith. His crush is a budding pacifist (Joan Collins) who delays the U.S. from entering the second World War after Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley) saves her from a life-threatening accident.
Now, Kirk and Spock must make sure that doesn’t happen again … or the Germans will develop the atomic bomb first and change the course of history.
“Star Trek’s” level-headed approach to war, when to wage it and under what terms, can be both admirable and deeply conservative.

3. “Balance of Terror” (Ep. 14, Season 1)
Spock is no war monger, but he takes a neo-con-like stand in this tense episode. Some enemies, like the Romulans threatening war along the Neutral Zone, cannot be talked out of combat. They must be defeated at all costs.
A battle between two shrewd captains ensues, leaving just enough time for a lecture on bigotry. The takeaway? Sometimes a good offense is the best defense.
4. “Space Seed” (Ep. 22, Season 1)
The episode that set the stage for “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” introduced us to a swaggering, super-human Ricardo Montalban. The episode has aged as well as the 1982 film, but a deeper look into the story reveals something else.
Khan represented a misguided attempt to perfect humanity, granting some with extra strength and intelligence. Khan and his ilk felt they knew better than everyone else, and therefore must lead by any means necessary. One wonders what Fidel Castro thought of this episode… Another problematic element for a feminist audience: the female lead (Madlyn Rhue) initially finds herself swept away by Khan&#8217;s masculine appeal.

5. “The Enemy Within” (Ep. 5, Season 1)
Modern progressives would recoil at the core of this potboiler. Kirk is split into two distinct selves, a calm, compassionate soul and a raging Id. The latter causes chaos on the ship, including a tough to watch assault on Yeoman Rand (Grace Lee Whitney). Still, we learn that Kirk isn’t the strong, capable leader we’ve come to know without a dose of “toxic masculinity.”
Removing that element would cripple the Enterprise and turn Kirk into just another, lesser captain.

6. “Dagger of the Mind” (Ep. 9, Season 1)
The unmissable message of this anti-progressive episode: “Curing” mankind of our sinful behavior and errant thoughts through science and forced rehabilitation is not just futile. It’s inhumane.
7. “Mudd’s Women” (Ep. 6, Season 1)
Gloria Steinem must loathe this episode.
Women want to feel beautiful, or at least have a man who views them that way.  The cartoonish Harry Mudd (Roger C. Carmel) knows this all too well, and he exploits it to keep himself one step ahead of the law.
The episode assumes distinct gender roles in male-female relationships while acknowledging how men’s visual senses can be overloaded by beauty and grace. And, shockingly, that isn’t deemed disastrous by the episode’s ending.
Speaking of gender themes, another classic episode the title of which alone would get it canceled by today&#8217;s politically correct crowd: &#8220;What Little Girls Are Made Of&#8221; (Ep. 7, Season 1).

8. “The Return of the Archons” (Ep. 21, Season 1)
The first of several “Trek” tales where people are considered part of one “body” — a la the Borg — and stripped of their individuality to create a more harmonious society. Kirk talks the machinery behind this “perfect order” into destroying itself, reminding it why free will matters.
It’s a similar story with “The Apple” (Ep. 5. Season 2). Once again Kirk realizes the folly of living in an Edenic state and wrecks the gadgetry that makes it all possible.
9. “Arena” (Ep. 18, Season 1)
Kirk must battle a lizard creature with great strength and lousy mobility in this essential “Trek” tale. The Kirk/Gorn battle is epic by “Trek” standards, but the intriguing element arrives when we learn why Gorn’s comrades attacked Kirk’s landing team. Starfleet encroached on their territory, and they viewed the incursion as an unprovoked attack.
The un-woke lesson: People have a right to defend their territory, be it via a man-made wall or military means.

It’s mating season for Leonard Nimoy’s pointy-eared hero, Mr. Spock, and it couldn’t come at a worse time for Kirk and company.
It leads to a wild fight between the show’s main players, after which Spock echoes a philosophy with a whiff of social conservatism.
&#8220;Having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting,” Spock notes.
11. “This Side of Paradise” (Ep. 24, Season 1)
Kirk and the landing party encounter a settlement teeming with contentment. There’s a catch, of course. Their bliss is provided by alien spores which keep them healthy and devoid of negative emotions.
It’s utopia — and it’s antithetical to the human condition. The society’s leader learns that the hard way after waking from his spore-driven stupor.
“Three years, no accomplishments,” he mutters.
The episode’s portrait of a biologist (Jill Ireland) who just isn’t complete without Spock by her side might drive feminists up a wall. Let’s not forget the drab, gray uniforms the settlers where, right out of the Communist Gift Guide.
Later, Kirk muses on the trouble with so-called paradise.
“Maybe we weren’t meant for paradise. Maybe we were meant to fight our way through, struggle, claw our way up, scratch for every inch of the way. Maybe we can’t stroll to the music of the lute. We must march to the sound of drums.”
Not a bad definition of capitalism.

&#8220;Star Trek&#8221; icon William Shatner made the epic mistake of defending the Christmas classic &#8220;Baby, It&#8217;s Cold Outside&#8221; against the onslaught of feminists who have been calling for radio stations to ban it completely from the airwaves, alleging it promotes date rape.
In response to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation&#8217;s (CBC) recent decision to ban the classic song, which they <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/cbc-baby-its-cold-reinstate-1.4941087">later reversed</a>, Shatner called upon all his Twitter followers to pound the company with endless phone calls demanding the song be played over and over until midnight.
&#8220;Call into CBC radio all day and get them to play &#8216;Baby It&#8217;s Cold Outside&#8217; over and over until midnight!&#8221; Shatner tweeted.
A user tweeted in response, &#8220;C&#8217;mon, Bill. Isn&#8217;t there something, anything, you can find that is more important to rally for?&#8221;
Shatner replied that fighting censorship is indeed an important cause to rally for. &#8220;I would think that censorship of classics because certain &#8216;types&#8217; need to judge things through their own 2018 myopic glasses and demand they be stricken from history is important. Or is this 1984 only 34 years too late?&#8221;
When another user suggested that Shatner was just &#8220;joking around&#8221; by defending the song, the &#8220;Star Trek&#8221; actor promptly replied, &#8220;I&#8217;m not actually.&#8221;
Then, just to really turn up the heat, Shatner went on to say &#8220;he&#8217;d still call and request the song be played just to stick it to the Myopia Censorship Club members!&#8221;
When another Twitter user suggested that Shatner cares nothing for sexual assault victims, he schooled them on the song&#8217;s original intent. &#8220;Have you watched the original choreography, myopic Peter or are you one of those who needs to take the lyrics &amp; extrapolate worst case?&#8221; Shatner tweeted. &#8220;You must clutch your pearls over rap music. Here&#8217;s the original choreography from 1949.&#8221;
&#8220;The choreography is the interpretation of the lyrics from the timeframe when it was written (the 1940&#8217;s),&#8221; Shatner continued. &#8220;If 2018 prudes want to interpret the lyrics as something else; the problem obviously lies in their own minds not in the original lyrics.&#8221;

In recent weeks, the classic Christmas tune has been portrayed as some kind of a &#8220;date rape anthem&#8221; by feminists who are unable to see the nuance in the song&#8217;s flirtatious nature. It all began earlier this month when a Cleveland radio station banned &#8220;Baby, It&#8217;s Cold Outside&#8221; entirely after some listeners complained it promoted date rape, even though the song&#8217;s creator, Frank Loesser, intended it as a flirtatious song between a man and a woman on a cold winter&#8217;s night. The song&#8217;s critics typically overlook the part where the woman sings, &#8220;Baby, it&#8217;s cold outside&#8221; in unison with her male partner, signifying that the two were always in sync. Frank Loesser&#8217;s daughter <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/music/daughter-baby-it-s-cold-outside-writer-frank-loesser-blames-n944901">recently asserted</a> this was the case.
While some radio stations have banned the song entirely, others have<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/39278/victory-radio-station-lifts-ban-baby-its-cold-paul-bois"> reversed the ban </a>after listeners voiced their disapproval. An informal poll on <a href="https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2018/12/04/is-baby-its-cold-outside-really-too-offensive-to-play-in-2018/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">CBS New York</a> shows a majority of people want &#8220;Baby, It&#8217;s Cold Outside&#8221; kept on the radio.

William Shatner, the legendary actor who made Captain Kirk a household name, has stirred up yet more leftist outrage on Twitter. The 86-year-old has made clear in the past that he&#8217;s not a fan of social justice warriors, and when he pushed back this weekend against attempts at conflating 1960&#8217;s civil rights activism with the crybully tactics of the &#8220;snowflakes,&#8221; Twitter melted down. 
When one follower wrote, &#8220;Just remember that the same people that throw around the SJW stuff today would have been calling for Gene&#8217;s head when you kissed Nichelle,&#8221; Shatner called out the social justice left for misandry and snowflakery.
&#8220;SJWs stand for inequality, where they are superior to any one else hence my use of Misandry and Snowflake,&#8221; he wrote Sunday night, adding, &#8220;&#8203;Why is it that SJW&#8217;s think they can align themselves with those that demanded social reform in the 60&#8217;s?&#8221;
