Washington state now requires physicians to take health equity classes on a regular basis or lose their licenses.
Doctors, nurses, dentists, veterinarians, and <a href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=18" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite%3D18&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1727315846806000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2Uts3k0Zr6kDUqTrU522U4">other</a> health professionals are required to complete health equity &#8220;continuing education&#8221; under a new state law that went into effect in December.
Proponents of health equity claim that health differences between demographic groups are the result of systemic oppression and discrimination.
The health equity classes <a href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=43.70.613" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite%3D246-12-830&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1727315846806000&amp;usg=AOvVaw32qxq4RTvn-tag8G5kRfKA">teach</a> doctors about &#8220;structural factors&#8221; like &#8220;bias, racism, and poverty&#8221; that manifest as &#8220;health inequities.&#8221; The classes must also involve &#8220;self-reflection&#8221; on how a doctor&#8217;s &#8220;social position can influence their relationship with patients.&#8221;
Depending on the class, doctors will also take &#8220;implicit bias training&#8221; to reduce their bias during diagnosis, learn how to ensure &#8220;equity and antiracism&#8221; in caring for their patients, and learn &#8220;structural humility.&#8221; Doctors will also learn how to recognize &#8220;patterns of health care disparities&#8221; and how &#8220;communication styles differ across cultures,&#8221; as well as take &#8220;cultural safety training.&#8221;
&#8220;These skills enable a health care professional to care effectively for patients from diverse cultures, groups, and communities, varying in race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, religion, age, ability, socioeconomic status, and other categories of identity,&#8221; the new law <a href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=43.70.613" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a>.
Healthcare workers must take at least two hours of health equity training every four years, although some Washington medical boards require more hours, the Washington Department of Health confirmed in an email.
One of the available health equity classes is <a href="https://doh.wa.gov/public-health-provider-resources/healthcare-professions-and-facilities/health-equity-continuing-education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">titled</a> &#8220;Racism, Bias, and Other Determinants of Health,&#8221; and another is &#8220;Improving Cultural Competency for Behavioral Health Professionals.&#8221;
Washington&#8217;s health department is clear that &#8220;equity and equality are not the same.&#8221;
&#8220;Equality gives everyone the same resources while equity gives people the resources they need,&#8221; the health department&#8217;s website <a href="https://doh.wa.gov/public-health-provider-resources/healthcare-professions-and-facilities/health-equity-continuing-education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a>. &#8220;With equity, everyone has the same opportunities as others. Research shows that inequities are part of the health care system and have always existed.&#8221;

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) has become ubiquitous in many workplaces, including the corporate world, education, and government. In recent years, health equity has popped up more in state and hospital medical policies.
One Boston hospital <a href="https://www.massgeneralbrigham.org/en/about/newsroom/press-releases/updating-system-policies-perinatal-testing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cited</a> &#8220;health equity&#8221; in its decision earlier this year to stop filing child abuse reports for pregnant mothers using drugs because &#8220;Black pregnant people are more likely to be drug tested.&#8221;
Back in 2022, at least three states, New York, Minnesota, and Utah, <a href="https://freebeacon.com/coronavirus/food-and-drug-administration-drives-racial-rationing-of-covid-drugs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prioritized</a> minorities for often scarce COVID remedies like monoclonal antibodies and oral antivirals.
Affirmative action, another DEI objective, was struck down by the Supreme Court last year, but some are still <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-mayo-clinic-lawyer-helps-medical-professionals-push-dei-despite-supreme-court-ruling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushing</a> for doctors to be recruited based on their race.
The Mayo Clinic&#8217;s legal counsel was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-mayo-clinic-lawyer-helps-medical-professionals-push-dei-despite-supreme-court-ruling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">caught</a> on audio last month saying that without a &#8220;diverse medical staff,&#8221; they &#8220;can’t effectively provide the best culturally competent care to our patient population.&#8221;

A male child molester who claims to be a woman and is being housed in a women’s correctional facility has been accused of sexually harassing female inmates.
Christopher Williams, 34, who identifies as a transgender woman but has no known female name, was able to get transferred to a women’s prison and has been sexually harassing the women there, one woman who filed a report against him <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/male-child-molester-house-in-womens-prison-under-investigation-for-sexually-harassing-female-inmate/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> National Review.
Mozzy Clark-Sanchez, who shared a cell with Williams, filed a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) report against Williams in 2022 but was recently told the report had been referred to state police. Both Clark-Sanchez and Williams are being housed in the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW). Clark-Sanchez told NR that she was a victim of child rape, so Williams reminded her of her abuser.

Williams requested he be roomed with Clark-Sanchez during the pandemic and quickly began sexually harassing her, the woman said.
“I’d be sitting on my bunk and he’d lean over me and he’d be like, ‘I hate it when it fills up with blood,’” apparently referring to an erection, Clark-Sanchez told the outlet.
She also said she woke up on at least three occasions to Williams sitting next to her bed. Once, she woke up to find his hand under her blankets and touching her. She said a prison guard caught him and told him to return to his bunk.
“When I startled awake, I felt… Christopher jerk his hand out from in my pants, and underneath my blankets,” Clark-Sanchez told NR. “I was in shock. It took me back to my childhood.”
Williams also once brought a strap-on dildo into the cell and asked Clark-Sanchez to use it on him. She said he also made creepy comments toward her, such as “All these girls want this, I don’t know why you don’t.”
She said another time she awoke to find her shirt pulled up over her breasts and believes Williams had touched her in her sleep. She said she wouldn’t have woken up during such an ordeal because she takes heavy medication to help her sleep because she has night terrors from her childhood trauma of being raped by her uncle and sold by her mom to pay for drugs.
Williams is not the only man who has been allowed into the WCCW, NR previously <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/meet-the-trans-identifying-male-felons-of-the-washingtons-womens-prison/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, and they all are accused of leering at the women in the shower and bathroom areas.
“Our shower stalls don’t go up to our heads,” a female inmate told NR. “And the bathroom stalls, same thing. A bunch of women, when they’re in the showers, these people are just standing there. They don’t have to stand on their tippy toes and they look over and see everything. People were so uncomfortable. You feel kind of like you’ve been violated.”
Clark-Sanchez said Williams did this to her, and on one occasion threatened: “I can get you when I want.”
There are at least 11 men claiming to be women at the WCCW. Though prison policy says men have to go through an intensive process to be approved for the women’s prison, in practice, all they have to do is claim to be a woman, NR reported. They don’t have to have undergone reassignment surgery, be on a hormone regimen, or be transitioning in any way.
When Clark-Sanchez filed her PREA report against Williams, she said prison officials said her claims were substantiated and moved Williams to a single room away from other inmates.
“They moved him out of the room, and they found literally a bag of d***s,” she told NR. “A bunch of homemade dildos that this dude made.”

Williams was arrested when he was 16 for sexually assaulting his younger sister, who was nine at the time. Their father said he had first molested the girl when she was six. Williams was required to register as a sex offender but never told the sheriff’s office where he was living, so he was convicted in 2009 and 2010 of failing to register as a sex offender, which is a class C felony.
He is currently serving a 28-year sentence for a domestic violence conviction from 2012 when he assaulted his girlfriend. At the time of his conviction, he was housed in a men’s corrections center, where he allegedly assaulted a male prison officer so badly that the officer needed reconstructive surgery. The officer needed to have his ear cut open to relieve swelling, suffered broken bones beneath his right eye, extensive stitching for a gash on his cheek, a lost tooth, and a broken nose that required emergency surgery to rebuild. Williams was convicted of second-degree assault for that crime, later claimed to be a woman, and was sent to the WCCW.

Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote the majority ruling in Kennedy&#8217;s case in June 2023, seven years after the coach began his fight to pray on the field.

Two high school track coaches in Washington are <a href="https://www.iwf.org/female-athlete-stories/jason-keniston-brad-anderson/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">speaking out</a> after watching a trans-identifying male athlete crush his female competition at the state championship.
Brad Anderson is the boys’ track head coach, and Jason Keniston is the girls’ track head coach at Liberty High School near Seattle.
In May, the two coaches watched Veronica Garcia, a biological male <a href="https://www.iwf.org/female-athlete-stories/rita-larson/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">formerly</a> known as Donovan Brown, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-was-cheering-trans-identifying-athlete-complains-about-lack-of-sportsmanship-from-female-competitors">win first place</a> at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) state track meet.
Garcia <a href="https://www.athletic.net/result/2Ki8lZqHnfzj1xJfO/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won</a> the girls&#8217; 400-meter race with a record-smashing time of 55.59.
The two Liberty High track coaches began wondering how things could change and decided to speak up in an <a href="https://www.iwf.org/female-athlete-stories/jason-keniston-brad-anderson/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with the Independent Women’s Forum.
He “just completely blew the competition away,” Keniston recalled.
The win garnered 10 points for Garcia&#8217;s school, East Valley Spokane High School, which ended up winning the state championship by eight points, Keniston said.
“And they shouldn&#8217;t have,” the girls&#8217; coach added.
The girls&#8217; team from Cedar Crest High School, the “rightful state champions” according to Keniston, ended up in second place.
“Their coaches and everyone who gave everything to their program deserved a title, and they’ll never get that,” he said.
The mother of the girl who got third place in the 400-meter race behind Garcia said Garcia&#8217;s time would not have been impressive against male athletes.
“He wouldn’t even have made it to districts,” the mom <a href="https://www.iwf.org/female-athlete-stories/rita-larson/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “That time isn’t even competitive for a varsity high school male athlete. He’s a [junior varsity] runner.”
In October 2022, Garcia ran in the boys&#8217; 5,000-meter junior varsity race and performed much worse against his male competitors, <a href="https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/meet/209254/results/874400" target="_blank" rel="noopener">placing</a> 164th out of 172.
“How can anyone think this is fair, regardless of the politics of our world and our country?” Keniston asked.
The problem was “really right in your face at state,” Anderson said.
When Garcia stood on the podium, &#8220;It was very quiet. There [were] a couple people booing,” Keniston said.
“This individual robbed these girls of their podium spot, and the girl who could have come in eighth [place] didn&#8217;t even get to be on the podium and earn a medal,” he said.
Garcia previously said he was “somewhat hurt” the girls did not congratulate him.
“I guess maybe I expected sportsmanship because I was cheering the rest of them on when they were called. So I guess I expected to get that reciprocated,” Garcia <a href="https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2024/jun/02/east-valley-teen-is-the-first-washington-transgend/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The Spokesman-Review. “But I didn’t get that.”
“I’m just a teenager. I wish people would remember that,” he said.
Anderson, the boys&#8217; coach, said biological males are simply faster than their female counterparts.
“When you come down to a sport, an endurance sport especially, I think the numbers always speak pretty clearly that biological males are faster, and I just don&#8217;t know how you can argue otherwise,” Anderson <a href="https://www.iwf.org/female-athlete-stories/jason-keniston-brad-anderson/">said</a>. “There&#8217;s a difference. [To] say there&#8217;s not is an injustice.”
Anderson said that one of the girls &#8220;just put a heck of a time on the board — great time — and she still loses. That was hard to watch.&#8221;
The two coaches emphasized that they are not the only ones who have a problem with trans-identifying males competing against girls.
“There&#8217;s a large group that stands against this, however, they&#8217;re like most, where we feel the need to hide under this mask of going along with it out of fear that if you are willing to just speak up and say what you believe, even just your opinion, there is going to be a repercussion,” Keniston said.

At first, Keniston said he hesitated to speak out.
“Your job is at risk, your livelihood, you&#8217;ll be labeled a bigot or this and that,” he said, adding, “We actually just care about kids, and we want what&#8217;s best for everybody.”
Keniston and Anderson said they hope their actions will inspire other coaches to speak out against trans-identifying males in girls&#8217; sports.
“We are going to speak up. We don’t back down from bullies,” Keniston said.

An 82-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/washington" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington</a> woman has sued her local YMCA-operated city pool after being banned from the facility for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-82-year-old-woman-banned-from-pool-after-speaking-out-about-man-in-womens-locker-room-threatens-to-sue-city-ymca" target="_blank" rel="noopener">speaking out against</a> a man using the women’s locker room.
On Wednesday, lawyers with the Center for American Liberty representing Julie Jaman filed <a href="https://libertycenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Filed-Complaint-Exhibits-.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a lawsuit</a> against the city of Port Townsend, Washington, and Olympic Peninsula Pool for banning her for life after she spoke out after objecting to the presence of a man in the women’s changing area.
&#8220;After witnessing a disturbing incident in the women&#8217;s dressing room and raising concerns, I&#8217;ve faced a relentless storm of attacks and falsehoods,” Jaman said in a statement obtained by The Daily Wire. “Despite my four decades of community involvement, I&#8217;m left with no choice but to seek justice through the courts.”
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and seeks to reverse her ban from the pool and have her access reinstated.
Jaman was banned from the pool after an incident in July 2022 when she was showering after swimming at the pool and heard a male voice in the women’s locker room. She then said that she saw a man watching two young girls. After complaining about the presence of a male in the female locker room, Jaman was told by pool staff that her language was “discriminatory.”
The man in the locker room was an employee of the YMCA who identifies as transgender. Jaman says she believed that she had witnessed a crime because of his presence in the women’s locker room near the two girls.
“When an eighty-year-old woman reasonably believes she is witnessing a crime being committed against young girls in a women’s locker room, the government’s reaction should be to gather all of the facts and learn what happened, not immediately take sides in an ideologically charged political debate,” the lawsuit says.

According to the suit, the city and the pool violated Jaman’s First Amendment right to free speech and Fourteenth Amendment right to due process and equal protection.
&#8220;The City and YMCA&#8217;s failure to respond to Julie&#8217;s requests highlights their disregard for public safety,&#8221; said Harmeet Dhillon, the CEO and founder of The Center for American Liberty. &#8220;By prioritizing political ideology over the protection of children, they have set a dangerous precedent. As we pursue legal action, we demand accountability and a renewed commitment to protecting women’s privacy and civil rights.&#8221;
Neither the city or the pool immediately responded to requests for comment.

There’s religious adherence to the Pride flag during Pride Month, that most holy month.
In Spokane, Washington, they decided to paint a crosswalk with the Pride Progress flag.
You might think there would be a problem painting a crosswalk with Pride Progress flags because people walk and drive over it. It is a crosswalk.
It turns out there was a group of three teenagers who were on Lime electric scooters doing wheelies on the Pride Progress flag and then got caught on tape doing that.

They were arrested and charged with first-degree malicious mischief. They could go to jail because they did wheelies on the Pride Progress flag.
It was later reported they were also doing wheelies in other areas of town as well. 
But — Thou Must Not Have Any Other Gods Besides The Pride Progress Flag. This religion must never, ever be faced with dissent.

Two of the three teens were underage, and they&#8217;ve not been named. So apparently, Lime is now announcing it will be implementing a no-go zone around that crosswalk, which means a scooter driven over the mural will be shut down remotely.
Everyone has to tiptoe right around the Pride Progress flag that&#8217;s on the ground.

The situation in Spokane is like the child’s game “The Floor Is Lava,” except the floor is the Pride Progress flag. Don&#8217;t walk on it. Don&#8217;t do it. If you do, you will be punished.
A press release from the city of Spokane <a href="https://my.spokanecity.org/police/news/2024/06/06/multiple-arrests-make-after-downtown-pride-mural-is-vandalized/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>, “Officers observed widespread damage as black scuff marks consistent with scooter wheels were observed across the entirety of the mural. The area is clearly marked to keep traffic away as it was just re-painted to repair previous damage.”
“Attached to the [press] release were two photos demonstrating the extent of the damage, both of which showed faint black marks on the street painting consistent with thin tire marks,” The Publica <a href="https://www.thepublica.com/lime-scooters-will-now-shut-down-if-driven-over-pride-flag-crosswalk-in-spokane-wa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. “The alleged vandalism, which was claimed by many to be motivated by homophobia, resulted in an outpouring of condemnation from Spokane’s LGBT community and those purporting to be LGBT allies.”
A local journalist complained he had seen other teenagers running over the pride mural crosswalk while he was reporting. He state, “A group of five to six kids just started doing donuts and creating skid marks on the Pride Mural.” He said they were also doing wheelies.
As we all know, there are no skid marks anywhere in America on roads. None.
If you don&#8217;t want people to drive on some image, don’t put it on the road. It feels like you&#8217;re daring people.
This is not the first time this has happened. In February, a 19-year-old was arrested after performing burnouts with his truck on a Pride crosswalk in Delray Beach, Florida. He was charged with felony criminal mischief.
This is so tiresome. Not to mention the fact that the media ignore cases where pro-life centers get burned down.
But step on a Pride Progress flag on the sidewalk and they’ll arrest you.

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/washington" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington</a> state judge has slashed the bail amount for an illegal migrant accused of killing a state trooper in a crash from $1 million down to just $100,000.
Raul Benitez Santana, 32, is charged with vehicular assault and vehicular homicide involving alcohol or drugs in connection with the March death of Washington state trooper Christopher Gadd, 27.
Judge Richard Okrent of Snohomish County Superior Court reduced Santana’s bail on May 15, and jail records show his original $1 million bail was lowered to $100,000.
The illegal migrant is accused of consuming cannabis and beer before driving 112 mph on the I-5 south just north of Seattle, <a href="https://www.heraldnet.com/news/judge-reduces-bail-for-driver-accused-of-killing-marysville-trooper/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.heraldnet.com/news/judge-reduces-bail-for-driver-accused-of-killing-marysville-trooper/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1716498314765000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2CECnPBG3Kp1UVw2m3vORs">according</a> to the Everett Herald. He allegedly drove on the shoulder where he crashed into Gadd&#8217;s parked patrol car. Gadd died at the scene.
Santana has been held at the Snohomish County Jail since the deadly crash.
Santana’s defense lawyers had argued for his release, arguing that he is not a risk to commit additional crimes and that he would appear at court hearings. Santana has several misdemeanors for driving with a suspended license, but no felony convictions.
“If released, his parents will welcome him back into their home,” the defense team wrote. “He is not a flight risk.”
The state trooper&#8217;s widow objected to releasing her husband&#8217;s killer.
&#8220;Reducing bail would not only undermine the severity of the crime but also inflict further anguish and distress upon me, our child, and the rest of our family,&#8221; Cammryn Gadd wrote in a letter to the judge.

The ex-Washington police officer who went on the lam Monday after allegedly killing his ex-wife and teenage girlfriend has shot himself while fleeing from law enforcement.
Elias Huizar, 40, was discovered near Eugene, Oregon, after the Oregon State Patrol located his vehicle driving southbound on I-5, the West Richland Police Department <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=747956870783789&amp;set=a.213965484182933" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on Facebook. Police pursued the vehicle, and Huizar got into a minor crash, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/elias-huizar-manhunt-two-women-dead-child-abduction-washington-state-police/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Huizar and police exchanged gunfire before he was able to drive away again, with no one hurt. Huizar then crashed into another vehicle several miles away and was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Oregon State Police Cpt. Kyle Kennedy announced Tuesday night, according to CBS.
After allegedly killing his ex-wife and teenage girlfriend, Huizar abducted his 1-year-old son, Roman, who was taken into custody by state troopers and is reportedly safe.
The murders and abduction occurred on the day that Huizar was due in court to face allegations that he raped a 16-year-old girl, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/04/23/us-news/armed-ex-cop-accused-of-killing-his-ex-wife-girlfriend-is-on-the-run-after-being-due-in-court-for-rape/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.

While the police declined to identify the second victim except to say they were an associate of Huizar, the Amber Alert released by police suggests that the second victim is Huizar’s teenage girlfriend.
Huizar was also being investigated for allegedly raping a teenage friend of his girlfriend. Police were also investigating the legality of his relationship with his girlfriend. The age of consent in Washington is 16, and Huizar’s girlfriend is alleged to have been 16.

An ex-police officer in Washington is on the run after he allegedly killed his ex-wife and teenage girlfriend before abducting his 1-year-old son.
The murders and abduction occurred on the day that 40-year-old Elias Huizar was due in court to face allegations that he raped a 16-year-old girl, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/04/23/us-news/armed-ex-cop-accused-of-killing-his-ex-wife-girlfriend-is-on-the-run-after-being-due-in-court-for-rape/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. An Amber alert has been issued for Huizar’s 1-year-old son, Roman.
The alert, <a href="https://www.tri-cityherald.com/news/local/article287920010.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> by the Tri-City Herald, suggests that Huizar may be fleeing to Mexico and states that Huizar is suspected of killing his ex-wife and girlfriend.

One week after her elementary school permitted an LGBT Pride club to be formed at the school, an eleven-year-old girl in Washington state says she was refused permission to start an interfaith prayer group.
Laura, a student at Creekside Elementary School, told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/fifth-grade-girl-speaks-out-washington-school-denied-request-start-interfaith-prayer-club">Fox News</a>, “I wanted to start it because I felt kind of alone in the classroom and really just at school. And I realized, I have some friends and I knew some other people that felt the same way, and so I talked to them and I was just like, ‘You know what? It would be a great idea to make a club where people could come together and do good in the community.&#8217; That was kind of the idea of my interfaith peer club.”
First Liberty Institute (L.A.W.), which is representing Laura, <a href="https://firstliberty.org/cases/creekside-prayer-club/">reported</a> that Laura and her mom met in February with the school’s principal, Amy Allison, who informed them that all the funding for school clubs had been allocated in October, and Laura had missed the deadline, even though the Pride Club was formed one week before and the school allows a dozen other clubs, including the Green Team and the Toastmasters Club.
“In a follow-up meeting, the principal told L.A.W. that she could fill out an application to pay to use the school after hours. When L.A.W. asked why she would have to pay like an outside group when other student clubs don’t have to pay, Principal Allison responded, ‘I am sorry, [L.], I just can’t tell you what you want to hear,’ and ‘we can’t allow it,’” First Liberty added.
“The First Amendment is clear; the free speech clause and the free exercise clause both protect Laura’s ability to pray, to speak about her faith; to gather with other religious students,” <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/fifth-grade-girl-speaks-out-washington-school-denied-request-start-interfaith-prayer-club">said</a> Kayla Toney, associate counsel at First Liberty Institute. “The law is clear: if the school allows at least one non-curricular club, no matter what the club is about, it has to allow a religious club. It’s actually viewpoint discrimination to deny a religious club just because it’s religious.”
“Denying the formation of a religious student club while allowing other clubs violates the Constitution,” Toney contended. “School officials at Creekside Elementary are engaged in religious discrimination against an eleven-year-old girl who simply wants to pray, feel support from other religious friends, and do community service.”

School Reportedly Denies 11-Year-Old Permission To Form Interfaith Prayer Group After It Okays LGBT Group

A judge in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/washington" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington</a> ruled that the state’s ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds is unconstitutional, but the state Supreme Court granted an emergency appeal to pause the judge’s decision, meaning the restriction stays in effect for now.
On Monday, Cowlitz County Superior Court Judge Gary Bashor <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24536660-state-of-washington-v-gators-custom-guns-inc-ruling-and-orders-23-2-00897-08" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ruled</a> in favor of a Washington gun shop that sued the state after lawmakers banned magazines holding more than 10 rounds in 2022. Bashor rejected the state&#8217;s arguments that the magazines were not suitable for self-defense and that the legislation was common sense. 
“This Court must find there exists no set of facts where the Court can find such a generalized ban or restriction on an am (or an instrument that facilitates self-defense) as constitutional under the Washington Constitution,” Bashor <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24536660-state-of-washington-v-gators-custom-guns-inc-ruling-and-orders-23-2-00897-08">wrote</a> in his 55-page decision. “The United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights exist to define the outer limits of what Legislatures and Courts are allowed to do. Amending the Constitution and Bill of Rights cannot be done simply by enacting a law, or by a pronouncement from a Court.&#8221;
Bashor added that he found that large capacity magazines (LCMS) are classified as arms under the State Constitution and that members of the public commonly owned them for lawful purposes. 
“The State has not provided evidence that LCMs are NOT commonly and lawfully owned or possessed by civilians for lawful purposes, including self-defense. The State: instead chose to provide expert opinions concluding only that LCMs are not commonly ‘fired for self-defense purposes’, or are not the best choice for self-defense, neither of which are relevant metrics,” he wrote. 
Bashor, who has been a judge in the rural county since 2011, also pointed to the Founding Fathers in his decision. 
“There was no appetite to limit gun rights by the Founders. Though the specific technology available today may not have been envisioned, the Founders expected technological advancements,” Bashor wrote. “The result is few, if any, historical analogue laws by which a state can justify a modern firearms regulation.”
After Bashor&#8217;s ruling, Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson, a Democrat, <a href="https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/was-ban-on-high-capacity-gun-magazines-ruled-unconstitutional/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed</a> an emergency appeal before the state’s high court, arguing magazine capacity limits are constitutional.

“Every court in Washington and across the country to consider challenges to a ban on the sale of high-capacity magazines under the U.S. or Washington Constitution has either rejected that challenge or been overruled. This law is constitutional,” Ferguson said. 
Washington State Supreme Court Commissioner Michael Johnston sided with Ferguson, keeping the law in effect while the appeal continued. 
The magazine restriction was one of the many gun control policies adopted in recent years by Washington’s Democratic-controlled legislature and Democratic Governor Jay Inslee, including a ban on the sale of AR-15s and similar rifles.

Seattle Public Schools is shutting down its program for gifted and talented students, where the majority are white or Asian, citing &#8220;equity&#8221; concerns.
The school board voted to scrap its Highly Capable Cohort program in 2020 after a 2018 survey <a href="https://www.parentmap.com/article/equity-teams-seattle-hcc-racial-disparity-gifted" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> that only 3.7% of participating students were Hispanic and 1.6% were black. Meanwhile, 11.8% were Asian, and the majority were white.
“Numbers would suggest that within our city … predominantly white children are more gifted than other cultures and races, and we know that is absolutely not true,” Kari Hanson, the district’s director of student support services, <a href="https://www.parentmap.com/article/equity-teams-seattle-hcc-racial-disparity-gifted" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Parent Map in 2018.
“Clearly we’re not identifying our children of color and we need to get down to why,” Hanson said.
The district began phasing out the gifted program in the 2021-22 school year, and it will be gone entirely by the 2027-28 school year.
Starting next year, every school will have a new &#8220;more inclusive&#8221; Highly Capable Neighborhood School Model.
&#8220;The program is not going away, it’s getting better,&#8221; the school district said in a <a href="https://www.seattleschools.org/departments/advanced-learning/services-and-programs/service-delivery/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">release</a>. &#8221;It will be more inclusive, equitable, and culturally sensitive.
&#8220;In particular, students who have been historically excluded will now have the same opportunities for services as every other student and get the support and enrichment they need to grow,&#8221; the district said.
Currently, the district has three elementary schools, five middle schools, and three high schools for students in the Highly Capable Cohort program.
Under the new program, gifted students <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20240331204001/https://www.seattletimes.com/education-lab/why-seattle-public-schools-is-closing-its-highly-capable-cohort-program/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">will not be</a> separated from other students but will remain in the same classroom, and teachers will have to develop individualized education plans for each student.
Critics <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20240331204001/https://www.seattletimes.com/education-lab/why-seattle-public-schools-is-closing-its-highly-capable-cohort-program/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">argue</a> that the new model puts an unfair burden on teachers who do not have the time or resources to give 20 to 30 students an individualized plan, especially since the district is currently facing a $105 million deficit.
Some parents also worry that the new model will overlook more advanced students.
Minority representation in the Highly Capable Cohort program has improved since 2018. In the 2022-23 school year, 8.2% of gifted students were Hispanic, and 3.4% were black.
The school district is made up of about 14% Hispanic students and 15% black students.
Nevertheless, it is still replacing the program after years of attacks from critics.

In 2021, Rita Green, the education chair of the Seattle Chapter of the NAACP, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/new-york-education-new-york-city-united-states-race-and-ethnicity-f8cbdb50edba9802fe9ad503cfe7d467" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> for the elimination of Seattle&#8217;s gifted program.
“We want the program just abolished. Period. The Highly Capable Cohort program is fundamentally flawed, and it’s inherently racist,” Green said.
The district&#8217;s decision also comes amid broader <a href="https://www.edweek.org/leaders/leadership/a-formula-for-creating-more-equitable-gifted-and-talented-programs/2023/02" target="_blank" rel="noopener">criticism</a> of gifted programs due to equity concerns.
