Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico’s mystery girlfriend is a vegan and political activist.
Brianna Menard, 30, is also a lobbyist for the Texas Medical Association, an organization that has supported puberty blockers and hormone treatment and criticized Republicans for so-called “criminalization of evidence-based, gender-affirming care for transgender youth and adolescents,” The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/05/29/us-news/senate-candidate-james-talaricos-vegan-girlfriend-revealed/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_source=twitter">reported</a>.
She also enjoys yoga and dancing at &#8220;Cheer Up Charlies,&#8221; a local vegan gay bar in Austin, Texas, according to the Post.
Menard met Talarico while working as his chief of staff in 2022, but the two did not start dating until 2023, according to the Post. She also worked as chief of staff for Democratic Texas state Rep. Salman Bhojani.
The identity of Talarico’s girlfriend comes to light as Talarico has been denying rumors that he is vegan himself — even though he once suggested eating meat is morally wrong. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Talarico&#8217;s Republican opponent in the Senate race, has dubbed him “Tofu Talarico.”
A spokesman for Talarico’s campaign said Talarico is not vegan.
“James is not and never has been a vegan, much to his girlfriend’s chagrin,” spokesman JT Ennis said. “As the saying goes, true love conquers all.”
During his re-election campaign to the Texas House of Representatives in 2022, however, Talarico announced his entire campaign would be “non-meat” to counter climate change, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/james-talarico-keeps-denying-the-vegan-label-video-suggests-otherwise">reported</a>.
“Not just because it’s the right thing to do, and the moral thing to do, but also, as all of you know, it’s necessary to fight climate change,” Talarico said at the time. “It is now existential that we try to reduce our meat consumption and that we try to respect animals in all aspects of society.”
To push back against the vegan claims, Democrats posted a picture of Talarico eating barbecue as the Democrat nominee hopes to flip the Republican Senate seat.
“I’ve been eating barbecue since before Ken Paxton’s first indictment,” Talarico said earlier this week.
In addition to his vegan nickname, Paxton has called Talarico “Six-Gender Jimmy” and “James Tala-FREAKO” for his comments on transgender ideology — including Talarico’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/this-book-is-gay-read-the-sexually-explicit-volumes-james-talaricos-church-gives-kids">remark</a> that what he loved most in the world was &#8220;trans children.&#8221;

Understandably, Democratic Senate hopeful James Talarico is working overtime to try to deny any “vegan” label as he runs for office in Texas. However, a resurfaced video of the Democrat bragging about his all-vegan campaign is throwing a wrench in that mission. 
Talarico, while running for re-election to the Texas House of Representatives in 2022, suggested eating meat was morally wrong, in part because of the “existential&#8221; threat of climate change. That’s why, he boasted, that his campaign was going completely “non-meat” and ordering from vegan restaurants. 
“Not just because it’s the right thing to do, and the moral thing to do, but also, as all of you know, it’s necessary to fight climate change,” Talarico says in the video. &#8220;It is now existential that we try to reduce our meat consumption and that we try to respect animals in all aspects of society.” 
“I am proud to say that our campaign has officially become a non-meat campaign,” he announced. “We are only buying vegan products from our local vegan businesses.”
“The point is, all of us, not just policymakers, but everyone has to take personal responsibility in this effort,” he added.

Republicans have made fun of Talarico for being a vegan in Texas, where barbecue is part of the culture. Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running against Talarico for the Senate seat, has called him “Tofu Talarico.&#8221; And President Donald Trump recently quipped, “You can’t get elected as a vegan in Texas.” 
In the wake of the criticism, Democrats and Talarico himself have been denying any association with veganism. On Wednesday, the official X account for the Democratic National Committee posted a photo of Talarico eating barbecue.

SHOCKER: Company That Sells ‘Plant-Based Meat’ Is In A Stock Freefall

Beyond Meat, the plant-based food company that makes vegan burgers that look like the real thing, is denying rumors it is planning to file for bankruptcy soon amid plummeting sales.
The company, which pioneered and popularized hyper-realistic plant-based &#8220;meat&#8221; products that resemble burgers, chicken tenders, and more has been struggling financially, and recent media reports <a href="https://vinnews.com/2025/08/14/beyond-meat-heads-for-chapter-11-bankruptcy/">suggested</a> it is headed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
“We have not filed, nor are we planning to file, for bankruptcy,” a Beyond Meat spokesperson <a href="https://plantbasednews.org/news/economics/beyond-meat-denies-filing-for-bankruptcy/">said</a> in a statement to Plant Based News, calling the rumors &#8220;unequivocally false.&#8221;
However, the numbers do not look good.
Beyond Meat&#8217;s revenue <a href="https://investors.beyondmeat.com/news-releases/news-release-details/beyond-meatr-reports-second-quarter-2025-financial-results-0">fell</a> 19% year-over-year to $75 million in the second quarter this year. It has seen a total net loss of $29.2 million and an operating loss of $34.9 million this year.
The company&#8217;s CEO Ethan Brown <a href="https://investors.beyondmeat.com/news-releases/news-release-details/beyond-meatr-reports-second-quarter-2025-financial-results-0">said</a> they were &#8220;disappointed&#8221; with the low numbers and blamed &#8220;ongoing softness in the plant-based meat category.&#8221;
In the wake of its money problems, the company has slashed its workforce and says it plans to eliminate about 6% of its workers in hopes of becoming profitable by 2026. It also suspended operations in China.

Beyond Meat is also doing a major rebrand — it will reportedly <a href="https://plantbasednews.org/lifestyle/food/beyond-to-drop-meat-major-rebrand/">drop</a> &#8220;Meat&#8221; from its name and be known as simply Beyond to distance itself from meat and emphasize its plant protein ingredients.
Some of Beyond Meat&#8217;s vegan burgers are concocted in a way that makes them sizzle, sear, and even bleed like real burgers.
However, after years of promises that vegan &#8220;meat&#8221; was here to stay, plant-based meat companies are still grappling with the fact that Americans overwhelmingly <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0306919220301354?utm_source=chatgpt.com">prefer</a> real meat, which is also usually cheaper.
Also, in the years since Beyond Meat&#8217;s launch, grocery stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe&#8217;s, as well as other food companies, have launched their own versions of vegan &#8220;meat&#8221; products, eating into Beyond Meat&#8217;s market.
The company&#8217;s share price has plummeted 97% over the past five years despite much hoopla when the company went public in 2019. At its peak, Beyond Meat was trading at a whopping $10 billion. Now its market capitalization is around $200 million.
Other vegan meat companies like Impossible Foods, known for its &#8220;Impossible Burger,&#8221; are <a href="https://qz.com/fake-meat-plant-protein-industry-impossible-foods-beyond">also</a> struggling — the company has had multiple rounds of layoffs despite originally attracting billions in funding from investors like Bill Gates and Google Ventures.
The CEO of Impossible Foods even suggested his company might start blending real beef into its burgers in a bid to attract people who eat both real meat and plant-based meat.

Kevin Hart’s plant-based fast-food chain suddenly closed all its locations in the Los Angeles area two years after it opened, with only a message on Instagram about starting a “new chapter.”
In a post last week on social media from the account of Hart House, the vegan fast food chain owned by the 45-year-old comedian, a message read, “A Hartfelt goodbye for now as we start a new chapter,” the <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/13/business/kevin-harts-la-plant-based-fast-food-restaurants-suddently-closes-all-locations-just-two-years-after-opening/">New York Post</a> reported.
“Thank you,” it added. “To our team, guests, and community, who helped make the change we all craved.”
The Los Angeles dining guide <a href="https://la.eater.com/2024/9/11/24241170/hart-house-kevin-hart-plant-based-vegan-restaurant-closing-los-angeles">Eater</a> confirmed the closures with a statement from Hart House’s CEO Andy Hooper. 
“The response to the product has been incredible, and we thank our committed team, our customers, and our community partners for helping make the change we all craved, and for their unwavering support of Hart House,” Hooper told the outlet.

However, the CEO did not explain why the fast-food joints closed for good with no warning. All four sites were closed on September 10.
In 2020, the “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle” star announced plans to open the plant-based eateries after he made a change to a vegan lifestyle, the Post noted.
Two years later, Hart House opened with Hooper, saying at the time, it wanted “to give people a plant-based option” after noticing a lack of vegan choices in the world of fast food, the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lifestyle/lifestyle-news/kevin-hart-vegan-restaurant-hart-house-closes-1236001488/">Hollywood Reporter</a> noted.
Hart added, at the time, “If I can give people a place to have the option that’s placed smack dab in the middle of where your McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, and Burger King [are], people may see a Hart House and say, ‘I’m going to go plant-based today.”
The menu included “100%” plant-based items like burgers, “chicken” sandwiches and nuggets, salads, tater tots, milkshakes and more, THR noted.
In 2023, Hooper told Eater-after opening their 4th location- “Opening on the corner of Sunset and Highland, across the street from Hollywood High School, adjacent to a Chick-fil-A, a couple 100 yards from an In-N-Out, [and inside] a former McDonald’s building is about as emblematic as you can get of our aspiration to be the future of quick-service restaurants.”
The closures follow others by restaurants in Los Angeles. Just last month, the popular burger joint “Shake Shack” announced it would close five Southern California locations by the end of September.
The announcement comes following the enactment of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/california-triggers-bloodbath-by-raising-minimum-wage-to-20-an-hour">state of California’s approval</a> to raise minimum wage to $20, the Post noted.

“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/television">Cheers</a>” actors Ted Danson and George Wendt said they once forced themselves to throw up in solidarity with fellow star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Woody Harrelson</a>, who had accidentally consumed pork while maintaining a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/veganism">meat-free diet</a>.
The actors told the story of purging together during the annual ATX Television Festival ahead of the 30th anniversary of the “Cheers” series finale.
“[One night] we had catered Chinese food, and Woody found out after about 20 minutes that he was eating pork,” Wendt recalled, per <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/news/festivals/cheers-reunion-ted-danson-on-kirstie-alley-woody-harrelson-1234870635/">IndieWire</a>. “And he decided to go purge. So I told him, ‘Out of solidarity, I will purge with you.’ And Ted said, ‘I’ll purge, too.&#8217;”
“There were only three stalls in the Stage 25 men’s room,” he continued. “And I’ll tell you this: You don’t want to laugh while puking.”
Harrelson joined the cast during the show’s fourth season. The 61-year-old star played a bartender named Woody on the iconic sitcom.
Danson also discussed how they tried to mess with Harrelson as the new member of the cast. 
“We were all, like, 37 when Woody, at age 25, joined us and it was like, ‘Okay, let’s kick his a**,&#8217;” Danson said. “So we took him to the basketball court because we fancied ourselves pretty good basketball players — he killed us.”
Danson said Harrelson also beat them at arm wrestling and chess. 
The actor recalled how Harrelson’s vegetarian diet came with an unfortunate side effect.
“Woody was a vegetarian, which meant he had horrible gas,” Danson said during the panel. “He would come up to me sometimes during rehearsal and say, ‘Hey, I need your advice. I respect you so much.’ And he’d look me right in the eye, waiting for his fart to reach my nose. He was like a killer — he wanted to see my eyes go out.”

I love to respond to Reddit users wondering if they are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ep-87-something-strange-is-happening-with-our-egg-supply-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in the wrong</a> regarding certain social situations. 
These Reddit posts are known as “Am I The A**hole? (AITA)” and the users are asking the Reddit community if they are — well — an a-hole.
So today, I came across a <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/10rhn66/aita_for_telling_gf_that_i_will_not_stop_using/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reddit post </a>that said, “AITA for telling GF that I will not stop using butter?”
Right off the bat, that title made me think he&#8217;s not an a-hole. Perhaps he’s doing something crazy. Maybe he&#8217;s using the butter for all the wrong reasons. 
Let’s review what he says, and then I will make a judgment. Here’s the post:

I am very meat conscious, and only eat it on holidays. I try to avoid animal products in general because of my GF, but personally have no problem with eating locally sourced/humane animal products including meat. I also eat eggs daily from my backyard chickens and butter for cooking. GF and I used to rotate cooking meals. GF now refuses to eat the meals I prepare because I use butter in most of my recipes.
I told her if she didn&#8217;t like what I made she doesn&#8217;t have to eat it, but I feel like I compromised a lot in order to satisfy her lifestyle, and it&#8217;s not fair for her to expect me to make completely vegan meals.
She says I am not respecting her choice to be vegan. She says she can&#8217;t make me vegan, but the least i could do is prepare vegan meals. I told her that I sacrificed eating lot&#8217;s of animal products i enjoy to respect her, while she hasn&#8217;t done anything for me. Such as eating my dishes were the only animal product is butter.
I told her I am making meals with no meat, no eggs, but I don&#8217;t like the vegan substitute for butter when I make my creamy dishes. such as pot pie (with fake chicken). I am trying to accommodate but it feels like i&#8217;m the only one giving anything up

You are absolutely not the a-hole. 
The vegan here is the a-hole — which tends to always be the case. They&#8217;re very demanding. They decide they want to live a certain lifestyle, then it becomes a cult, and they try to force everybody to go along with it — especially those closest to them.
By the way, it’s great that you’ve decided to respect her so much by eating more of these substitute drops of crap. If you actually look at the ingredients in all these vegan substitutes, then you might as well just eat the real thing. It&#8217;s far healthier.
My real question is, what is she doing for you out of respect? You value her, but does she value you? Will she make you a chicken dish for example? Or, if she wants you to make her vegan meals, would she ever make you a carnivore meal?
Wouldn’t she probably say ‘Oh, I don&#8217;t want to do that because I have now decided that veganism is my new religion — and by religion, I mean cult.’ I think she would.
So it doesn&#8217;t really make sense for her to demand that you not consume butter — which, by the way, is a healthy fat that is good for you.
I don&#8217;t know the vegan rules. I do know there are way too many of them. I also know that if she continues being this strict vegan, then she&#8217;s probably going to end up sick because we are meant to eat meat.
Because I just said that, I also know I am going to have a ton of evil vegan people messaging me and saying evil vegan things.
Anytime I take on the vegans, I get bombarded.
It is a cult.
When vegans hear somebody give an opinion that is separate from their own beliefs, they attack and go ballistic online, and create videos, saying, ‘Oh my Goodness. Look at this person saying they proudly consume meat, what should we do? We&#8217;re all going to attack! We&#8217;re all going to attack because you can&#8217;t be a carnivore!’
Now, if you do eat meat and somebody says,’I&#8217;m a vegan!,’ most carnivores will say, ’OK, that&#8217;s fine. It&#8217;s your life, your choice.’
Not with vegans. Those freaks say, ‘I don&#8217;t eat meat, and neither should you.’
They are little princesses in their own minds. I find them all to be annoying.
To the Reddit poster, I think you need a new girlfriend. If you leave her and you date someone who eats meat, then you&#8217;re going to have a way better time.
Just try it. You’ll be reminded that people can go out to eat and not get accosted by a psychopath sitting across from them, yelling at them for eating butter.
I should also note it&#8217;s good to know where your meat comes from — making sure it’s humane and healthy. I do the exact same thing.
There is definitely a way to be a conscious meat eater, but I haven&#8217;t met one vegan whom I want to be friends with because they are just so cultish and demanding.
 So, Reddit boyfriend, I rule you not the a-hole.

The battle between good and evil can be likened to a messy food fight. 
God originally created food to foster health, unity, comfort, and goodness. But in the hands of the enemy, it creates the perfect opportunity for Cancel Culture to attack the dinner table and the people around it.
During the riots of 2020, Chick-fil-A was hit with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chick-fil-a-went-woke-earlier-this-year-amid-riots-that-didnt-stop-looters-from-hitting-their-store-in-philadelphia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a wave of protests</a>, even though its employees kindly serve everyone with a “my pleasure.” The owner, Dan Cathy, a Christian, didn’t want to provide financial aid to LGBTQ organizations. His company provided millions of dollars to support the homeless, poor, and hungry. But that’s not enough for Cancel Culture.
These social justice warriors, who supposedly respect diverse experiences and defend freedom of expression, did everything possible to destroy Jack Phillips, a cake decorator in Colorado. A gay couple sued Phillips for not decorating a wedding cake to celebrate their marriage because it went contrary to his Christian understanding of marriage. That gay couple went to great lengths to destroy this man’s livelihood. It took the Supreme Court to finally decide in favor of this man’s conscience and the freedom of religious expression. This group wants to force a Christian to make a cake for a same-sex wedding, but would never ask a vegan to serve a burger.
Proponents of Cancel Culture want to be recognized as agents of high morality and principle, but they are hypocrites. They make demands like spoiled children. But they have more than tears and tantrums; they have powerful politicians, popular celebrities, access to 24 hours of op-ed media posing as news stations, and billions of dollars from powerful industries to cut down anyone who disagrees with them.
The deeper reality is that militant vegans want to impose a moral culinary cult on everyone. They believe eating meat is cruel to animals. According to them, veganism will save the planet — even though the planet existed just fine for millions of years without them.
As a chef, I enjoy eating vegetables, but I am always confused as to why vegans try to mimic the taste of meat. Ethical treatment of animals is a good thing. But at the end of the day, ethical treatment only helps to make a more quality product for slaughtering. Natural food is under attack, and so is the physical and mental health of humanity.
Hypocrisy abounds in Cancel Culture. Its agents vow to be inclusive and all-embracing, but they create havoc to shut down restaurants with Christian owners and bully customers at these establishments because they vote differently. And worst of all, they want to save creation but would gladly kill an unborn child. For them, another mouth to feed would be harmful to women. Yet they cannot actually define a “woman.”
I wish that these examples were far and few between, but Cancel Culture has hit close to home.
A few breweries in Baltimore have decided to bar my food truck from serving food to their patrons. The truck is not woke enough for them because they determined that as a chef and priest, I would impose my theological and moral views on their customers. They want to cancel the truck even though we provide jobs for the formerly incarcerated and disadvantaged communities, while also providing food for the poor.
Cancel Culture wants to control who eats what and when. They believe they have the moral authority to determine if someone goes hungry or feasts like a king. Thankfully, opponents of Cancel Culture are prepared. They can take comfort in the words of St. Teresa of Avila, who said, “When it’s time to fast it’s time to fast. But, when it’s time to feast, it’s time to feast!” In time, the just will receive their reward at the heavenly banquet.
Despite this dismal dietary outlook on what we’re force-fed by Cancel Culture, we have a recipe for hope. The devil used food to destroy us, but Jesus becomes food to save us! We just have to hunger for God and the right things to put into our bodies, minds, and souls. That’s why God became food! 
We will never have the complete victory in this earthly food fight, simply because we have to hunger for the Eternal Banquet in heaven. But, to help us serve and digest the good, beautiful, and true aspects of life, I recommend a few simple ingredients:
<ol>
<li>Eat with your family, regularly. The benefits are scientifically proven. This shared act makes us “companions” — a word that describes sharing bread with others.</li>
<li>Serve those who go without, and consider eating with them. Charity and missionary work makes us value every morsel as a gift from God and recognize that life is a gift.</li>
<li>Celebrate the saints and other feast days with gusto! Go ahead, drink a beer on Saint Patty’s Day, but also say a prayer to cast out the serpentine lies from our lives. Eat a bacon-wrapped lamb chop on Easter, but make sure you’ve fasted and confessed during Lent. Feast (and fasting) days are the remedy to the monotony of life, which the devil wants to make tasteless and boring.</li>
<li>Be sure to discern what you’re putting into your bodies with healthy moderation, but also consider how a healthy mind can make you spiritual sommeliers. Be experts of what you’re consuming — because you are what you eat! Physically and spiritually.</li>
<li>Finally, pray before you eat. Live a life of gratitude and consider how every bite is a connection to God’s creation and the people who had a part in feeding you. Being grateful makes us conscious of the Divine, Who can turn leftovers into a feast for the soul.</li>
</ol>
Cancel Culture’s weaponization of food to divide and destroy will eventually backfire, because its members will eventually cancel themselves. Thankfully, real food lovers will be on hand to nurse them back to sanity and health, one meal at a time — just like Jesus did.

A Spiritual Food Fight: How Cancel Culture Weaponizes Food To Bully The Faithful

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/idaho">Idaho</a> jail where the man suspected of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/homicide">killing</a> four University of Idaho <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/students">students</a> is being held is trying to accommodate his vegan diet requirements.
Latah County Sheriff Richard Skiles <a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/crime/idaho-college-killings/bryan-kohberger-to-appear-in-idaho-court-for-first-time/">told</a> NewsNation that he hasn’t heard of anything out of the ordinary when it comes to the suspect’s behavior in jail. He did say, however, that jail officials are trying to accommodate the suspect’s vegan diet, “but we are not going to buy new pots and pans or anything like that.”
The 28-year-old suspect, who will not be named per Daily Wire policy, was flown from Pennsylvania to Idaho and arrived in Moscow, where the University of Idaho is located, Wednesday evening. Court records explaining how he came to be arrested for the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Ethan Chapin, 20; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Madison Mogen, 21, were released Thursday morning.
While being led through the crime scene, Payne was shown a leather knife sheath lying on the bed next to Mogen’s body. The sheath contained the words “Ka-Bar” and “USMC” stamped on it, as well as the U.S. Marine Corps insignia.
The court documents <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/heres-how-police-captured-the-man-suspected-of-killing-four-university-of-idaho-students">revealed</a> that the Idaho State Lab was able to locate a single source of male DNA on the button snap of the knife sheath. On December 27, police in Pennsylvania confiscated trash from the suspect’s parents’ home in Albrightsville and obtained a DNA profile. The next day, the Idaho State Lab informed police that the DNA sample from the sheath, and the sample from the trash, contained DNA belonging to the suspect’s father.
One of the surviving roommates, Dylan Mortensen, told police she opened her door multiple times after hearing noises upstairs, and on the third time, she saw a man wearing black clothing and a mask over his nose and mouth walking toward her. She said the man was 5’10” or taller, athletically built but not muscular, with bushy eyebrows. She said the man walked past her as she stood in a “frozen shock phase.” She said he walked out of the house, and she locked herself in her room.
Police were able to narrow the timeframe of the crime to between 4:00 a.m. and 4:25 a.m. and reviewed video footage taken in the area in the time before and after the murders are believed to have occurred. The footage showed a white Hyundai Elantra without a front license plate (front license plates are required in Washington and Idaho, but not in Pennsylvania, where the car was registered) in the area between 3:29 a.m. and 4:20 a.m. The vehicle can be seen passing the off-campus residence three times before coming back a fourth time around 4:04 a.m. and attempting to turn around on the road. The vehicle was next seen around 4:20 a.m. traveling away from the direction of the off-campus residence at high speed heading in the direction of a road that eventually leads to Pullman, Washington, where the suspect attended Washington State University (WSU).
Video footage from the WSU campus showed a white Hyundai Elantra leaving the area and heading toward Moscow at around 2:53 a.m. This vehicle was again observed on five cameras in Pullman and the WSU campus at around 5:25 a.m.
Police pulled records for white Hyundai Elantras registered at WSU on November 29 – just over two weeks after the murders were committed – and found one belonging to the man who was eventually arrested for the crime. Police reviewed the owner’s Washington state driver’s license and determined he matched the physical description of the suspect provided by one of the surviving roommates.
Police matched the suspect to the vehicle through two previous traffic stops in the months before the murders. They also learned that the suspect registered his vehicle in Washington and received Washington plates on November 18 – five days after the murders.
A license plate scanner observed the suspect’s sedan on December 13 in Loma, Colorado. On December 15, the vehicle was stopped by law enforcement in Indiana. By December 16, the vehicle was in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, the suspect’s hometown, where he was eventually apprehended.
Police also reviewed cell phone data to show the suspect’s phone did not ping any cellular towers near the crime scene during the relevant timeframe, but an expanded examination of cell phone data showed the phone stopped reporting data to the network at around 2:47 a.m. At that time, the white Elantra was leaving Pullman and heading toward Moscow. The phone next pinged at 4:48 a.m. in an area south of Moscow, heading back to Pullman. Cell records also showed that the suspect left his home in Pullman around 9:00 a.m. on November 13 and traveled back to Moscow.
This information and more led police to arrest the suspect on December 30.

Roughly 19% of employees at <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/veganism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Beyond Meat</a> will soon be on the search for greener pastures as the company announced <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/unemployment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">layoffs</a> and the decision to fire former COO Doug Ramsey weeks after he allegedly bit a man&#8217;s nose.
The company, which produces plant-based meat substitutes, revealed in a <a href="https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/0001655210/000165521022000206/bynd-20221010.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">regulatory filing</a> that 200 workers will be dismissed as a result of “cost-reduction initiatives intended to reduce operating expenses.” Beyond Meat estimates “one-time cash charges of approximately $4 million in connection with the reduction in force, primarily consisting of notice period and severance payments, employee benefits and related costs” before it saves $27 million in operating expenses and $12 million in unvested stock-based compensation.
Shares in Beyond Meat fell nearly 7% to $13.77 as of Friday afternoon and have plummeted more than 87% over the past year.
Ramsey was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-vegan-food-exec-bites-mans-face-in-parking-garage-dispute-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charged</a> with making terroristic threats and third-degree battery for allegedly biting a man in the nose. The incident involving the longtime food executive, who was appointed to lead operations at Beyond Meat last year, reportedly occurred in an Arkansas parking garage after a Subaru made contact with his front tire, leading Ramsey to exit his car and punch the back windshield. When the driver of the Subaru exited the vehicle, Ramsey allegedly began punching him before ripping the flesh of the man’s nose with his teeth.
Formerly an executive at Tyson Foods, where he led the company’s business with McDonald’s, Ramsey had expressed excitement about joining the vegan food distributor. Ramsey will be replaced by Jonathan Nelson, the company’s senior vice president of manufacturing operations, who will earn a base salary of $355,000.
“Beyond Meat is the gold standard in the plant-based meat industry and I am proud to join in its mission to produce delicious products that are healthier for our customers and more sustainable for our planet,” Ramsey said upon his appointment. “I’m thrilled to be a part of a company that is constantly innovating and delivering high-quality products to some of the world’s most prominent foodservice and retail customers.”
The United States has witnessed a lackluster economic recovery over the past two years under several disruptions, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/americans-continue-to-opt-out-of-the-workforce" target="_blank" rel="noopener">labor shortages</a>, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/wee-hours-deal-reached-at-last-minute-to-avert-crippling-railroad-workers-strike" target="_blank" rel="noopener">supply chain bottlenecks</a>, and the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/we-simply-have-to-step-back-the-realist-approach-to-war-in-ukraine-and-americas-european-allies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Russian invasion of Ukraine</a>, all of which have contributed to worsening <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/inflation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inflationary pressures</a>. Beyond Meat is one of several companies to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/recession-fears-lead-big-tech-companies-to-pause-hiring-cut-jobs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slow hiring</a> or introduce layoffs.
Price levels rose 8.2% between September 2021 and September 2022, according to a Thursday <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.nr0.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, surpassing expectations despite <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/heres-what-the-federal-reserves-recent-rate-hike-means-for-the-economy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">harsh contractionary policy</a> from the Federal Reserve. The month-to-month increase of 0.4% exceeded analysts’ forecasts, while core inflation, which factors out the more volatile food and energy categories, reached 0.6% against an estimate of 0.4%.
The most recent inflation report carries immediate implications for Democratic candidates’ prospects in the midterm elections. The economy and inflation are key issues among voters preparing to cast ballots, with 84% considering the former to be a top factor on their minds, according to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-midterm-poll-spells-bad-news-for-democrats-on-the-economy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a> from ABC News and The Washington Post. The Republicans lead the Democrats by a 16% margin and a 19% margin with respect to trust in handling the economy and inflation, respectively.

A former executive for a plant-based meat alternative company was arrested in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/arkansas">Arkansas</a> Saturday for allegedly threatening a man and biting him in the nose.
Doug Ramsey, 53, who was appointed COO of Beyond Meat in 2021, was charged with making terroristic threats and third-degree battery, according to a report reviewed by <a href="https://www.ksn.com/news/state-regional/beyond-meat-coo-arrested-for-biting-mans-nose-near-razorback-stadium/?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow&amp;utm_source=t.co">local news outlet</a> KNWA. The altercation, which reportedly occurred in a parking garage, happened after a Subaru allegedly made contact with Ramsey&#8217;s front tire.
Ramsey exited his car and punched the back windshield, according to the report. When the Subaru driver got out of his car as well, Ramsey &#8220;pulled him in close and started punching.&#8221; He also bit the man in the nose, &#8220;ripping the flesh on the tip,&#8221; and allegedly threatened his life, according to a witness.
Ramsey, a long-time food company executive, was appointed as COO of Beyond Meat less than a year ago. The company promotes eating plant-based meat as a way to positively affect the planet and the environment. Its products are popular with vegans, and the appointment of Ramsey as COO in December 2021 was reported on by <a href="https://vegnews.com/2021/12/tyson-meat-execs-beyond-meat">VegNews</a>, a vegan media brand, and heralded as a positive step toward adding &#8220;vigor&#8221; to the growing meat-alternative movement.
“Beyond Meat is the gold standard in the plant-based meat industry and I am proud to join in its mission to produce delicious products that are healthier for our customers and more sustainable for our planet,” Ramsey said at the time. “I’m thrilled to be a part of a company that is constantly innovating and delivering high-quality products to some of the world’s most prominent foodservice and retail customers.”
The Daily Wire has reached out to Beyond Meat for comment.
Ramsey previously worked at Tyson Foods, where he was president of the global McDonald&#8217;s business, according to a biography available on Tyson&#8217;s website. A spokesperson for Tyson told KNWA that Ramsey left the company months ago.
His first court appearance is in mid-October.

“You’re sick, you’re starving, you’re scared.”
That’s how one woman explained the first stages of suffering with alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), a rare, tick-contracted disease that can cause an infected person to become highly allergic to mammalian meats – even just their fumes – and dairy.
“You need to sit with the suck a little bit,” Courtney from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxY0c4sEBMg">Alpha-Gal On A Dime</a> told newbies. “This does suck. It’s going to be a life-changer. But it’s doable.”
And that’s what AGS seems to be: a life-changer.
<h2>What is alpha-gal syndrome?</h2>
AGS is a type of food allergy to red meat and other products made from mammals, often caused by a Lone Star tick bite, as <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/alpha-gal-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20428608" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described</a> by the Mayo Clinic. 
A bite from the Lone Star tick can transmit a sugar molecule called alpha-gal, or galactose-α-1, 3-galactose, into a person&#8217;s body, which triggers an immune system reaction that later produces mild to severe allergic reactions to red meat &#8211; such as beef, pork, or lamb &#8211; or other mammal products, according to the medical center. 
Though some folks say they have found relief from the allergies with things like acupuncture, the Mayo Clinic says there’s currently no proven treatment for the syndrome, aside from food restrictions.
The emerging syndrome has been reported in 17 nations worldwide, according to <a href="https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fcimb.2021.680264/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Frontiers</a>, one of the world’s largest research publishers. Data show the number of cases in the United States has risen from just 12 confirmed in 2009 to 34,000 by 2019.
<h2>What are the food restrictions?</h2>
People suffering with AGS have varied symptoms and reactions, but, overall, it seems red meat is effectively off-limits. Some people, though, also develop an intolerance to dairy.
A <a href="https://dietitiansondemand.com/rare-conditions-with-nutrition-implications-alpha-gal-allergy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> from Dietitians On Demand noted the food restriction challenges. “Once alpha-gal allergy is diagnosed, all mammalian meats and by-products should be avoided,” the post outlined. “Again, this includes, beef, pork, lamb, venison, mutton, goat, and bison, plus any food that contains red meat extracts. Some individuals with alpha-gal allergy must also avoid dairy products made from cow’s, sheep’s, or goat’s milk.”
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/alpha-gal/products.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> that some people with AGS can also be allergic to products made from or cooked with mammalian fat – such as lard, tallow, or suet – as well as meat broth, bouillon, stock, and gravy.
Fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, legumes, poultry, eggs, and seafood are acceptable food sources.
<h2>Daily Struggles </h2>
Digging a little deeper on open <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/alphagalsyndrome" target="_blank" rel="noopener">online support groups</a>, it seems those with severe allergies have much more to worry about. 
One woman <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/2025804830995966?multi_permalinks=3265003180409452&amp;hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described</a> the struggles of eating out at a restaurant, noting that even a veggie burger prepared on the same grill with meat patties is problematic. 
“Eating out at restaurants has got to be the hardest problem for us with Alpha-gal,” the woman said. “Usually there is very little I can have. And if there is something, half of it has to be taken off.”
“I am also shocked that most restaurants grill veggie burgers on the same grill as regular meat hamburgers. Dangerous for us,” she added. “I feel totally out of control.”
Another person described a severe reaction from just fumes of mammalian meat.
“Just breathing it in causes a reaction,” the person said. “My fume reactions were almost immediate and respiratory. So I could not go into a grocery shop or a store with ready-to-go food. Eating in a restaurant was out of the question.”
“In our town we have a bike path that goes by restaurants,” the sufferer continued. “I would have a reaction from just riding by the area.”
“Final straw was when my son opened a can of chili in the house (to cook it outside) and I had a reaction,” the person recounted. “I wasn’t even in the same room.” 
Others in the support group echoed their struggles with “fume reactions.” 
There were also shared struggles about medications and vitamins being intolerable. 
“Joint pain? I have removed all red meat, dairy, and pork from my diet,” one woman explained. “The only thing I can think of, which I have just recently found out, is the gelatin in my medicine I take. I take daily vitamins/fish oil and they have a lot of gelatin caps. If I remove it, will it go away? Should I take anything for it?”
One group member replied “YES,” adding that they “go vegan on the vitamins.” 
Another post discussed struggles with blood pressure medicine that wouldn’t cause a reaction.
<a href="https://www.goodrx.com/well-being/diet-nutrition/medications-that-contain-animal-byproducts">According</a> to GoodRX Health, there are medications that “may contain animal byproducts that are important for their effectiveness or production.” Though, there are alternatives in some cases.
Sugar can be a struggle, too. 
Radical Animal Rights group PETA <a href="https://www.peta.org/about-peta/faq/are-animal-ingredients-included-in-white-sugar/">said</a> some sugars, including white and brown, can be processed through animal bone char. Folks in support groups online expressed reactions to some sugars, with some completely cutting it out of their diets.
<h2>Can it ever go away?</h2>
The Mayo Clinic says no cure is currently available for the life-changing allergy, but some of the “research is optimistic,” one diet site said. 
“Research is optimistic, indicating that some individuals may be able to reintroduce mammalian meats back into their diets after a period of abstinence, as long as no additional tick bites have occurred,” Dietitians On Demand <a href="https://dietitiansondemand.com/rare-conditions-with-nutrition-implications-alpha-gal-allergy/?fbclid=IwAR23O-7yRoIue7oNyS47UAsMX9kWfsHJDjPY95jHoO7_mGigrFAOAZenfc0">said</a>. 
Some AGS sufferers seemed to promote types of acupuncture to quell their reactions, specifically Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT), but it’s unclear if the treatment is proven effective.
A <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35003502/">case series</a> on the treatment, published in the National Library of Medicine, however, found that the “SAAT method showed effectiveness in the large majority of patients.”
“This alternative medicine approach to AGS management should be further studied in prospective trials with laboratory confirmation both before and after the procedure,” the abstract said. “This low-risk treatment shows promise in treating a medical condition that causes distress in an increasing number of patients.”
