Despite several major companies like <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/walmart-caves-massive-retailer-the-next-woke-domino-to-fall-under-pressure-from-robby-starbuck">Walmart</a> rolling back diversity, equity, and inclusion (<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-dei">DEI</a>) initiatives, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/costco">Costco</a> shareholders have overwhelmingly opted to keep theirs in place. Per <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/01/23/costco-dei-shareholders-reject-anti-diversity-proposal">Axios</a>, more than 98% of the company&#8217;s shareholders shot down a proposed anti-DEI initiative. 
The anti-DEI proposal was filed by the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR), which describes itself as &#8220;a non-partisan, free-market, independent, conservative think tank.&#8221; The block didn’t come as a huge surprise as the retail giant’s chairman and other board members had already encouraged members not to support it.
Costco chairman Hamilton “Tony” James said of their DEI initiatives, &#8220;We owe our success to the more than 300,000 employees who serve our members every day. It is important that they all feel included and appreciated and that they transmit these values to our customers.” 
Meanwhile, Ethan Peck from the NCPPR argued in a prerecorded message that DEI is &#8220;illegal, immoral and detrimental to shareholder value &#8221; and poses litigation risks for the company, according to <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2025/01/23/costco-dei-shareholder-proposal-rejected/77907655007/">USA Today</a>.
&#8220;By not hiring and promoting completely irrespective of race and sex ‒ in other words, by merit alone ‒ the company is not always hiring or promoting the best person for the job, and anything short of that is selling the success in the future of the company short, and therefore selling shareholders short,&#8221; Peck said in the message.
This vote was decided just days after newly inaugurated President Donald Trump issued executive orders targeting DEI practices in government agencies. All DEI offices within the federal government closed down, and employees were put on leave this week as the first step toward mass layoffs.
This puts Costco in opposition to what’s happening in the government and other private companies. Social media users were quick to call out their continued embrace of DEI.
“Costco is refusing to end DEI practices. It&#8217;s time to Bud Light Costco!” one X user <a href="https://x.com/LangmanVince/status/1882512626342916213">said</a>, referring to the successful boycott of the beer brand in 2023.

The annual Golden Raspberry Awards (<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hollywood">Razzies</a>), a contest highlighting the worst <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">movies</a> of the year, on Wednesday announced its nominations for every film released in 2024. 
Last year’s biggest flop was “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which led the pack with seven nominations total. Films including “Madame Web,” “Megalopolis,” “Borderlands” and “Reagan” each received six nominations.
“Joker: Folie à Deux” is a musical sequel to the Oscar-nominated “Joker,” which majorly underperformed at the box office, bringing in just $206 million worldwide against a $200 million budget. The film starred Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, who are both up for Razzies for worst actress and worst actor and for worst screen combo. 
The original “Joker” earned more than $1 billion in 2019, making the failure of the highly anticipated sequel even worse. 
The Razzies voting panel also targeted the pro-conservative film “Reagan” despite the movie being praised by viewers. They nominated actor Jon Voight, who was just named a special ambassador to Hollywood by President Trump, for one of the awards.

The Razzies were founded in 1981. Nominations are determined by a group of more than 1,200 voters, per <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/razzie-nominations-2025-joker-2-madame-web-borderlands-1236280684/">Variety</a>, and anyone who pays the annual $40 fee or the lifetime membership fee of $500 can count themselves among the voting panel. 
Razzies winners will be announced on Saturday, March 1, the day before the Academy Awards.

Denmark is reportedly open to discussing a more prominent role for the United States in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/greenland" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Greenland</a> short of a wholly selling the island.
The Danish government is trying to avoid a public dispute with the incoming Trump administration over the future of Greenland. While Denmark is against selling Greenland to the U.S., Danish officials have sent messages to Trump officials offering discussion on a new partnership in Greenland’s future, according to <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/01/11/denmark-response-trump-greenland-threat" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Axios</a>.
The messages were sent in response to Trump’s expressed willingness to purchase Greenland outright. The president-elect has said that the United States has major national security interests in Greenland and that the island is a key to pushing back against Russian and Chinese influence in the Arctic, an issue that will grow more prominent as Arctic ice melts and opens and expands new lanes for shipping.
“Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation,” Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-greenland-will-benefit-tremendously-if-and-when-it-becomes-part-of-our-nation">said</a> in a recent post on Truth Social. “We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump first raised a potential purchase of Greenland during his first term, though the suggestion was largely dismissed. Trump’s renewed interest in purchasing the island appears to be a much more serious proposal, however, and that has worried Danish officials who do not want to sell the island nor fight publicly with the Trump administration over it.

Danish officials grew more worried after Trump did not rule out using the U.S. military to protect U.S. security interests on Greenland.
Danish leaders have sent messages to the president-elect through intermediaries pitching the case that the U.S. and Danish governments can reach a new agreement on Greenland that will satisfy Trump’s concerns over national security, but stop short of a full sale of the island.
On Friday, top leaders in Denmark and Greenland met in Copenhagen to discuss Trump’s offer to buy Greenland. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a press conference afterward that she had requested a meeting with the president-elect. Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede said that Greenland should be an independent nation.
“Greenland is for the Greenlandic people. We do not want to be Danish, we do not want to be American. We want to be Greenlandic,” Egede said.

Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel sued the Biden administration on Monday for blocking a proposed acquisition.
The companies filed two lawsuits in district courts in Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, accusing the federal government of denying the companies due process. The legal filings say President Joe Biden decided against the companies in favor of union interests without full consideration of national security, according to a <a href="https://investors.ussteel.com/news-events/news-releases/detail/709/nippon-steel-and-u-s-steel-file-multiple-lawsuits-in" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> by the companies.
“From the outset of the process, both Nippon Steel and U. S. Steel have engaged in good faith with all parties to underscore how the Transaction will enhance, not threaten, United States national security, including by revitalizing communities that rely on American steel, bolstering the American steel supply chain, and strengthening America’s domestic steel industry against the threat from China,” Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel said.
As part of the agreement, Nippon Steel committed to investing $2.7 billion in the U.S. “to protect and grow U. S. Steel for the benefit of employees, the communities in which it operates, and the entire American steel industry.” Biden’s decision kills that investment and a $55-per-share payout due to U.S. Steel shareholders upon completion of the deal.
The lawsuits allege that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States did not investigate the national security interests at stake in the potential deal before Biden delivered his judgment.

Last week, the White House announced that it blocked the potential acquisition due to concerns about U.S. national security and supply chains.
“It is my solemn responsibility as President to ensure that, now and long into the future, America has a strong domestically owned and operated steel industry that can continue to power our national sources of strength at home and abroad; and it is a fulfillment of that responsibility to block foreign ownership of this vital American company,” Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-blocks-sale-of-u-s-steel-to-japanese-company" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement. “U.S. Steel will remain a proud American company – one that’s American-owned, American-operated, by American union steelworkers – the best in the world.”
President-elect Donald Trump has also opposed the deal, saying in a statement last month that he was “totally against the once great and powerful U.S. Steel being bought by a foreign company.”
The steelmakers say that, in addition to Biden’s political calculations, the acquisition’s failure is due to collusion between the Workers International Union (USW) and Cleveland-Cliffs, an Ohio-based steelmaker that previously attempted to buy U.S. Steel. That offer was rejected.

The Biden administration reportedly ignored oil smuggling that netted Iran an estimated one billion dollars annually — despite being well-informed on the operation.
A group of international Intelligence agencies compiled a 45-page report in April outlining a billion-dollar Iranian oil smuggling operation and shared the information with officials from the State and Treasury departments as well as members of the U.S. intelligence community, according to <a href="https://freebeacon.com/biden-harris-administration/how-the-biden-admin-allowed-iran-to-rake-in-illicit-oil-cash-amid-tehrans-terror-spree/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Washington Free Beacon</a>.
U.S. officials took multiple briefings on the report that showed Iran earning at least $1 billion annually from selling oil through Iraqi intermediaries. The Biden administration did not act on the information and gave Iran a “free pass” to sell its fuel in violation of U.S. sanctions, one former U.S. official told the Free Beacon.
“Despite Iran’s growing and dominant role in Iraq, the Biden administration has refused to sanction or meaningfully confront their role in an effort to protect the current Iraqi prime minister, Sudani, and to portray Iraq as a constructive regional partner,” one former U.S. official said.
“This approach deliberately ignores the reality that Iran and its proxies effectively control Iraq’s institutions, including the industrial fuel smuggling and crude commingling. It’s as if the Biden administration wants to hide the fact that Iraq remains Iran’s most important client state,” the official added.
Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/fuel-oil-smuggling-network-rakes-1-billion-iran-its-proxies-2024-12-03/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> early last month that the oil smuggling scheme netted Iran at least $1 billion a year since 2022 when Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani took office. Some estimates showed Iran earning as much as $3 billion annually.
A State Department official at the time said that U.S. officials had spoken with Iraqi officials about the operation and its illegality under U.S. sanctions.
“While we do not comment on specific discussions, we can affirm the Department has emphasized with our Iraqi counterparts the harms of illicit trade and our support for bringing oil transparently to market,” the official told Reuters.
U.S. officials reportedly learned of the illicit oil selling scheme just months after Hamas, one of the groups in Tehran’s extensive terror network, invaded Israel and killed roughly 1,200 people while taking hundreds more captive.
Sanctions on Iran administered by President Trump during his first term wrecked Iran financially, but Tehran regained some of its wealth, an <a href="https://freebeacon.com/national-security/irans-illicit-oil-revenue-swells-to-nearly-200-billion-since-biden-harris-took-office-latest-figures-and-estimates-show/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">estimated</a> $200 billion worth, selling oil after the Biden administration took over. Those funds have been used in part to support Iran’s terror proxies, including Hezbollah and the Houthis.

The 2024 election is over, but the hard work of building trust in our elections is just beginning. Conservative states like Florida, Georgia, and Texas have made great strides in the last few years. The laws they passed helped deliver a high turnout, high confidence election. But election integrity faces ongoing challenges both new and old, which is why our conservative states must double down on <a href="https://honestelections.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/HEP_2024-Election-Reform-Report_v4.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">robust election reforms in 2025</a>.
One of the most urgent threats to election integrity comes from <a href="https://americansforpublictrust.org/document/apt-report-foreign-backed-spending-in-state-ballot-issue-campaigns/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">foreign interference</a>. While existing laws prohibit foreign nationals from contributing to political candidates, loopholes allow them to fund campaigns to dramatically reshape state constitutions and even rewrite foundational voting laws through ballot initiatives.
This loophole is already being exploited. One left-wing group, the Sixteen Thirty Fund, has so far taken over $240 million from a Swiss billionaire named Hansjorg Wyss, all while dumping roughly $130 million into ballot measure campaigns in 25 states. So long as this loophole exists, foreign activists and even hostile powers like China and Russia have a means to directly influence the DNA of our republic. This year, Ohio passed groundbreaking legislation banning foreign funding of ballot measures. 2025 should be the year that <a href="https://honestelections.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/HEP-Foreign-Funding-Model.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">every state follows suit</a>.
It should also be the year that states put an end to ranked-choice voting (RCV). Time and again, RCV has proven to be confusing, time-consuming, and prone to errors. Proponents claim it improves democracy, but in truth, it does the opposite. Voters must rank candidates, so voting takes longer, and the tortuous process of eliminating candidates and redistributing votes can lead to convoluted—and even incorrect—outcomes. In one glaring example, Oakland, California, certified the wrong winner in an RCV election in 2022. This year in <a href="https://www.oregonlive.com/politics/2024/11/portlands-ranked-choice-debut-causes-voter-engagement-to-crater-1-in-5-who-cast-ballots-chose-no-one-for-city-council.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Portland</a>, Oregon, participation plummeted with 20% of voters leaving their ballots entirely blank in the ranked-choice race for city council.
Before the 2024 election, 10 states passed laws <a href="http://stoprcv.com/">banning</a> RCV. Left-wing donors like John and Laura Arnold fought back, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/opinion/ranked-choice-voting-ballot-measures-election-863d52ff" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pouring</a> $100 million into RCV ballot measures in six states. Voters rejected them all, in red and blue states alike, while Missouri voters enshrined an RCV ban in the state constitution. But the cabal behind RCV isn’t stopping. They now <a href="https://subscriber.politicopro.com/newsletter/2024/11/election-reformers-try-to-pick-up-the-pieces-00188355">say</a> they will lobby legislatures to impose what the voters just rejected. The best response from lawmakers would be to ban RCV instead.
That will keep voting simple. Empowering secretaries of state to <a href="https://honestelections.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HEP_Model-Legislation-Procedural-Audit_v3.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">audit election processes</a> will keep them transparent and accountable. Process audits help make sure that election officials follow the law, that equipment functions correction, and ballots are being handled and processed properly. They go beyond merely confirming results; they evaluate every step of an election, identify problems, and help officials implement solutions.
Clean voter rolls are another cornerstone of election integrity. Outdated lists open the door to fraud and errors. States should require that officials check their rolls against databases like the National Change of Address registry, the Social Security Death Index, jury records, and the federal SAVE database to identify and remove people who have died, moved away, or are not citizens. Noncitizens should be barred from registering or voting in any state or local election.
Mail voting also requires tighter safeguards. Organized vote harvesting should be banned, with vote collection limited to caregivers, immediate family members, or officials operating in bipartisan teams. States should ban groups from sending pre-filled and unsolicited voter registration forms, as well as applications to vote by mail. Ballots should only be mailed if a voter specifically asks for one. Voter ID laws should be applied to mail ballots, and states should require that ballots be received by the time polls close on Election Day.
It is also time for states to reevaluate excessively long early voting periods. Voting early can be a valuable tool for increasing participation, but the demand for 30 or 45 days of early voting is driven more by a desire by left-wing groups to ballot harvest than any legitimate need for six weeks of voting. <a href="https://honestelections.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/July_2023_HEP-_Polling_Memo.pdf">Polling</a> shows that roughly 80% of the public favors two weeks or less of early voting, with weekend time, ensuring that voting is convenient and sane.
All of these reforms enjoy broad, bipartisan support with the public. No matter what the Left says, laws like these build trust and encourage people to vote. States across the country should make passing these reforms a priority in 2025. After all, no matter what <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/final-harris-rally-oprah-warns-trump-presidency-could-end-voting-rights" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Oprah</a> says, 2024 was not the last election in America. That means the work of building confidence in elections is never over.

Former “Tonight Show” host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jay-leno">Jay Leno</a> explained why he’s walking around with severe black and blue bruises on his face, an eye patch, and a broken wrist.
The 74-year-old late-night icon <a href="https://www.insideedition.com/media/videos/jay-leno-tells-inside-edition-he-fell-down-a-60-foot-hill-in-pennsylvania-89629">told</a> “Inside Edition” on Tuesday that he fell down the side of a hill on his way to dinner before a recent stand-up show in Pittsburgh.
“I’m a little beat up,” he told the outlet.” “I fell 60 feet. Boom, boom, boom, boom.”
Leno said the black and blue bruises appeared after he “hit a bunch of rocks” during his tumble. The comedian also said one of the rocks hit his eye, which explains the eye patch. Leno revealed that he also lost a fingernail.

When the Inside Edition interviewer asked about Leno’s eyesight, he said, “It’ll be fine. I’m not worried about it.”

The fall didn’t keep Leno from performing at his scheduled show just three hours later and putting on another show in Beverly Hills over the weekend.
This is not Leno&#8217;s first serious accident. In January, he was involved in a motorcycle accident and sustained multiple broken bones. In 2022, he was working to repair a fuel line on one of his vintage cars when a leak caused gasoline to spray over his hands and face. A spark then ignited the gas. Leno underwent a series of treatments, including grafting procedures on both his hands and face. He credited his close friend standing nearby with acting quickly, likely saving his life.
In May, Leno said he was “lucky” to have survived so many accidents which could have been fatal.
“First of all they’re accidents. If they were deliberate, I would be complaining,” Leno said at the time.
He continued, “Look, I’ve been extremely lucky in my life, you know, and even though the accidents weren’t fun, I was still pretty lucky,” he added. “I didn’t lose an eye, I’m not horribly disfigured … well, just regular disfigured.”
“I’ve got a lot to be grateful for,” Leno <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ive-been-extremely-lucky-in-my-life-jay-leno-says-he-doesnt-let-recent-horrific-accidents-upset-him">said</a>. “First of all, in Hollywood – it’s only how you look, nobody cares how you feel like. I mean I still have a broken collar bone, two broken ribs and two cracked knee caps, but I’m getting around.”

Actress <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Eva Longoria</a> said she’s “privileged” to have the resources to move her family out of the “dystopian” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/united-states">United States</a>. 
The 49-year-old “Desperate Housewives” star made the remarks during a newly published interview with <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/culture/eva-longoria-nov-2024-cover/">Marie Claire</a>. Longoria, who was born in Texas and is of Tejano descent, is now splitting her time between Mexico and Spain. 
“I had my whole adult life here,” Longoria told the outlet of the United States. “But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s*** on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
The Hollywood star mentioned her disdain for the election results, too. “The shocking part is not that [Donald] Trump won,” she said. “It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.”
“If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” Longoria added. 
While reflecting on Trump’s win in the 2016 election, the actress said, “I’ve never been depressed in my life.”

“It was like, ‘Does my vote really matter? Am I really making a difference?’” she told the outlet. “I was so untethered to the core of what I believe because I truly believed in my soul that the best person wins. And then that happened, and I was like, ‘Oh, wait. The best person doesn’t win.’”
The actress had endorsed Kamala Harris for president this election cycle and spoke at the Democratic National Convention. She campaigned for Democrats all summer, specifically focusing on women and Latino voters.
Longoria said she’s “privileged” to be able to leave the country. “I get to escape and go somewhere,” she said. “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
The actress is currently living outside of the U.S. with her third husband, José Bastón, and their 6-year-old son Santiago. Longoria said she travels to Europe and South America for work but does not usually return to Los Angeles.

Retail giant <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/costco">Costco</a> has recalled close to 80,000 pounds of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/food">butter</a> due to an error on the packaging.
The FDA sent out an initial recall for 79,200 pounds of both unsalted and salted Kirkland Signature Sweet Cream Butter in October due to the label failing to say the product “contains milk.”  Packages for both variations include “cream” on the ingredients list, but that was not enough to avoid a recall. Costco created the Kirkland Signature line in 1995.
On November 7, the FDA classified the recall as Class II, which is &#8220;a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,&#8221; per the administration’s <a href="https://www.fda.gov/safety/industry-guidance-recalls/recalls-background-and-definitions">website</a>.
Reactions on social media were filled with mockery.

News articles are telling people how they can return, or safely dispose of, the butter. It’s butter,” one popular X reaction <a href="https://x.com/RealSpikeCohen/status/1855830188594012492">said</a>.

Another commenter <a href="https://x.com/cactusncookies/status/1855848231097295356">quipped</a>, “Can y’all please safely dispose of it at my house? I have a lot of holiday baking to do.”
“But if the butter is mislabeled, consumers would literally be spreading misinformation—all over their toast, bagels, pancakes, baked potatoes, muffins—it’s too horrific to think about,” another joking response <a href="https://x.com/utterboor/status/1855840676526629189">said</a>.
Despite all the mockery, some social media users agreed with the recall. 
“The laws exist to make sure that any food that contains a recognized allergen is labeled as such. Yeah in this case it seems silly, but how do you codify ‘you must label food that contains allergens, unless posters on Twitter decide that it&#8217;s obvious enough on its own’?” one person <a href="https://x.com/tempestis/status/1856031369014718469">wrote</a>.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) lists milk as one of the main foods that &#8220;account for most serious allergic reactions in the United States.&#8221;

North Korea tested an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Thursday designed to threaten the United States, the first ICBM test in nearly a year.
The test comes less than a week before the U.S. presidential election and as North Korea sends thousands of troops to reinforce Russia’s military in the war in Ukraine. North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un called the test “an appropriate military action” in response to threatening moves from its adversaries.
“The test-fire is an appropriate military action that fully meets the purpose of informing the rivals, who have intentionally escalated the regional situation and posed a threat to the security of our Republic recently, of our counteraction will,” Kim was quoted in North Korea state news, according to <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/north-korea-conducts-longest-icbm-test-amid-storm-over-troop-deployment-russia-2024-10-31/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reuters</a>.
Officials in Japan, South Korea, and the United States identified the tested missile as an ICBM and condemned the launch for raising tensions, according to <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/north-korea-icbm-test-mainland-us-more-agile/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBS News</a>.

The ICBM stayed in flight for 86 minutes and achieved a maximum altitude of 4,350 miles, longer and higher than any other North Korean missile observed to date, Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani told reporters. The missile was launched from the North Korean capital of Pyongyang and landed in the Sea of Japan.
The last ICBM North Korea tested, a Hwasong-18 ICBM, was fired in December. The last major weapons test conducted by North Korea took place in September when the North Korean military test-fired a Hwasong-11 short-range ballistic missile, according to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/30/world/asia/north-korea-missile-launch.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Times</a>.
The weapons test comes as North Korea has deployed as many as 12,000 troops to aid Russia in its war against Ukraine, according to American and South Korean officials. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin <a href="https://apnews.com/article/united-states-north-korea-russia-ukraine-war-faeabb0b2c2ea162bbc6c4691df4d6c8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Wednesday that North Korean troops in Russian uniforms and using Russian equipment are moving toward Ukraine.
Last week, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/north-korean-troops-who-join-russia-in-ukraine-war-are-fair-targets-u-s-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> the North Korean troops “fair game” if they enter the war against Ukraine.
“They’re fair targets and the Ukrainian military will defend themselves against North Korean soldiers the same way they’re defending themselves against Russian soldiers,” Kirby said. “There could be dead and wounded North Korean soldiers fighting against Ukraine.”

Iran is preparing to launch ballistic missiles against Israel in retaliation for the attacks on the terror group Hezbollah and the death of its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, United States intelligence indicates.
The White House is preparing to aid Israel’s defense against an expected Iranian attack, according to <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/10/01/iran-missile-attack-israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Axios</a>. Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the chief spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), said that the United States warned Israel of an imminent attack, according to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/10/01/world/israel-lebanon-hezbollah/here-are-the-latest-developments?smid=url-share" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Times</a>.
“We are actively supporting defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack. A direct military attack from Iran against Israel will carry severe consequences for Iran,” a White House official said, according to Axios.
The U.S. Embassy in Israel told its employees to go home on Tuesday and prepare to enter bomb shelters, according to the Times. It is the first time in months that embassy employees have received such an order.
Israel has ramped up the war against Hezbollah in recent weeks after fending off attacks from across the Lebanon border for nearly a year. The terror group has sent a constant stream of rocket, missile, and drone attacks against Israel since October 8, a day after Hamas’ invasion of southern Israel.

Israel has killed a number of Hezbollah’s top leaders in recent days, including Nasrallah, who took command of the terror group in 1992 and led it for more than three decades. The terror chief <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/30/middleeast/israel-attack-nasrallah-2000-pound-bombs-intl/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">died</a> on Friday in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut.
Israeli troops crossed over into Lebanon on Tuesday, the IDF announced. The move is the beginning of an expected ground invasion to degrade Hezbollah’s military capabilities. Israel also wants to effectuate the return of tens of thousands of Israelis who have been forced out of their homes in northern Israel for nearly a year.
The U.S. Defense Department has ordered several thousand more troops and fighter jets to the Middle East, the department announced on Monday. The additional forces are being sent to deter threats from Iran.
Iran has promised retaliation against Israel for months since the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
