Outgoing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senate</a> Minority Leader <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mitch-mcconnell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mitch McConnell</a> (R-KY) received medical attention on Capitol Hill after he suffered another fall on Tuesday.
POLITICO <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2024/12/10/congress/mcconnell-attended-by-medical-personnel-00193528" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that McConnell, 82, walked out of a Senate GOP lunch with a cut on his face and medical personnel followed the lawmaker into his office.
Sen. John Thune (R-SD), who has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/john-thune-elected-senate-majority-leader" target="_blank" rel="noopener">elected</a> to serve as the next Republican leader in the upper chamber, assured reporters afterwards that McConnell was alright.
“He is fine. He&#8217;s in his office. And any other questions about Sen. McConnell, I’ll refer to staff,&#8221; Thune said at a press conference.

McConnell&#8217;s office later shared a brief statement with The Daily Wire on the senator&#8217;s condition.
&#8220;Leader McConnell tripped following lunch. He sustained a minor cut to the face and sprained his wrist. He has been cleared to resume his schedule,&#8221; a spokesperson said.
McConnell, a childhood Polio survivor, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mcconnell-to-step-down-as-senate-republican-leader" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> in February that he would not seek another term as GOP leader in the Senate following a couple of health scares in the preceding months.

The senator was briefly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-senate-minority-leader-mitch-mcconnell-discharged-from-hospital" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hospitalized</a> in March 2023 with a concussion after falling at a D.C. hotel, and in the months that followed, he appeared to freeze and struggled to answer questions from the press.
After revealing his plans to step aside from leadership, McConnell indicated that he planned to serve out the remainder of his current term in the upper chamber, which ends in January 2027.
&#8220;I still have enough gas in my tank to thoroughly disappoint my critics and I intend to do so with all the enthusiasm with which they&#8217;ve become accustomed,&#8221; he said in Senate floor remarks.
During a radio interview that followed, he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mcconnell-says-hes-not-leaving-the-senate-aims-to-fight-isolationist-movement-within-gop" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, &#8220;I’m not leaving the Senate. And I’m particularly involved in actually fighting back against the isolationist movement in my own party and so many others as well.&#8221;
McConnell is the Senate’s longest-serving party leader with more than 15 years under his belt.
He is slated to be replaced in the role next month after Thune beat out Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Rick Scott (R-FL) in an internal election that took place in November.

Lara Trump announced this week that she is stepping down from her role as co-chair at the Republican National Committee (RNC) because she has completed the mission she set out to achieve.
&#8220;Serving as the @GOP co-chair throughout the course of the most consequential election in American history has truly been the honor of my life,&#8221; she said in a statement.
Lara Trump said that the organization&#8217;s goals during the 2024 election were to surpass all fundraising records, build the largest army of lawyers and poll watchers to ensure election integrity, and turn out millions of Americans and low propensity voters during early voting.
&#8220;We accomplished all three,&#8221; she said. &#8220;The job I came to do is now complete and I intend to formally step down from the RNC at our next meeting.&#8221;

Her decision to step down from the role comes as there has been speculation that she may want to be the replacement for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) in the U.S. Senate if Rubio is confirmed early next year to be the next Secretary of State.

Ohio Republican Sen. JD Vance will leave his Senate seat when he becomes vice president on January 20, giving Republican Gov. Mike DeWine the responsibility to appoint a replacement until a special election is held in 2026.
Ohio went red in the 2024 election, giving Trump an 11-point win over Vice President Kamala Harris. Longtime Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown also lost his re-election bid this year to Republican Bernie Moreno, giving the GOP both Senate seats in the state. Now, with Vance&#8217;s seat opening up, numerous Republicans are being floated as potential replacements.
<h3>Frank LaRose</h3>
Ohio Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose is a favorite among the state&#8217;s Republicans to replace Vance. LaRose made headlines in the past year for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ohio-secretary-of-state-orders-removal-of-nearly-500-non-citizens-from-voter-rolls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leading an effort</a> to clean up Ohio&#8217;s voter rolls ahead of the 2024 election, including purging hundreds of non-citizens from the rolls. LaRose has served as Ohio&#8217;s secretary of state since 2019. Before that, he was a member of the Ohio State Senate. LaRose ran for Senate in 2024 but lost to Moreno in the Republican primary.
<h3>Jon Husted</h3>
Ohio Lieutenant Gov. Jon Husted has served in that position since 2019. He has long been a major player in Ohio politics, serving as the Ohio secretary of state from 2011 to 2019, and the Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2005 to 2009.
Husted also pushed hard to secure Ohio&#8217;s elections, saying he wanted to make it a state where it is &#8220;both easy to vote and hard to cheat.&#8221; After taking office as secretary of state, Husted switched voting rules to make early voting hours uniform across the state instead of allowing county boards of elections to set their own hours.
Husted appears more likely to run for governor than for the Senate in 2026, and he has already received DeWine&#8217;s <a href="https://www.ideastream.org/2024-11-11/ohios-2026-race-for-governor-may-be-part-of-dewines-us-senate-choice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsement</a> for the position. &#8220;Based on my six years working with him, he will be a great governor,” DeWine said earlier this month.
<h3>Jim Renacci</h3>
A Republican rival of DeWine, former Congressman Jim Renacci would be an unlikely appointment, but he could campaign for the 2026 special election. Renacci challenged DeWine in 2022, regularly criticizing the Ohio governor. He <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/05/03/us/elections/results-ohio.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lost</a> to DeWine in the Republican primary by 20 points. Renacci also mounted a U.S. Senate campaign in 2018, winning the Republican primary before losing to Democrat Sherrod Brown in the general election.
Before he was elected to Congress in 2010, Renacci was a successful businessman, owning multiple dealerships in the Columbus area. In Congress, he served on the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Budget Committee.

<h3>Matt Dolan</h3>
Ohio Republican state Senator Matt Dolan has thrown his hat into the ring for a U.S. Senate twice in the past three years, falling short in Republican primaries in 2022 and 2024. Dolan is the son of Larry Dolan who owns the Cleveland Guardians (formerly Cleveland Indians) of the MLB. Dolan was given a partial stake in the franchise in 2000.
Dolan is also a partner at the law firm of Thrasher, Dinsmore &amp; Dolan and the vice president of 7th Avenue Properties, managing businesses and real estate properties. Dolan could have an edge over others in seeking DeWine&#8217;s appointment. In the 2024 Senate election, he was endorsed by DeWine while Republican Bernie Moreno, who went on to win the election, was endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump.
<h3>Dave Joyce</h3>
Republican Congressman Dave Joyce is currently serving his sixth term in the U.S. House after first being elected in 2012. Before Congress, Joyce worked as a public defender and was later appointed prosecutor of Geauga County, Ohio, to the east of Cleveland.
Earlier this year, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) appointed Joyce to serve on the task force investigating the July 13 assassination attempt on Trump. Joyce <a href="https://joyce.house.gov/posts/joyce-selected-by-speaker-johnson-to-serve-on-bipartisan-task-force-to-investigate-the-attempted-assassination-of-president-donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> he would &#8220;work diligently to uncover the facts, demand accountability, and ensure these security failures are prevented from happening in the future.&#8221;
<h3>Warren Davidson</h3>
Warren Davidson, another Ohio Republican congressman, has been floated for the Senate seat. Davidson served as a U.S. Army infantryman, where he was stationed in Germany. He later earned an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated near the top of his class.
Davidson also owned and operated manufacturing companies in Ohio for 15 years before he was elected to the House in 2016.
<h3>Jane Timken</h3>
Attorney and former Ohio Republican Party Chair Jane Timken is at the top of the list of people DeWine is considering for the appointment to the Senate, according to <a href="https://ohio.news/articles/mike-dewine-reportedly-considering-donor-jane-timken-for-senate-seat" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ohio.news</a>. Timken served as the head of the Ohio GOP from 2017 to 2021 and then ran for Senate in 2022. Despite boasting the endorsement of outgoing Sen. Rob Portman in 2022, Timken finished in fifth place in the Republican primary.
<h3>Mike Carey</h3>
Rep. Mike Carey (R-OH) has thrown his name in the mix for Vance&#8217;s seat, telling <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ohio-congressman-vying-replace-jd-vance-senate-says-trumps-agenda-must-priority-day-one" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> earlier this week that Trump &#8220;needs somebody in the Senate that will make sure that we get his agenda through.&#8221; Carey has been in Congress since 2021, where he has prioritized fighting for tax relief, housing affordability, and energy independence.
Before his time in Congress, Carey was an executive for a large privately owned energy company.
<h3>Mehek Cooke</h3>
Republican attorney Mehek Cooke is also being considered by DeWine, according to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/new-candidate-emerges-crowded-field-as-possible-replacement-vances-ohio-senate-seat" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>. Cooke was a political and legal surrogate for Trump in the 2024 election, appearing on Fox News to boost Trump&#8217;s campaign. Cooke served as assistant chief counsel in the Ohio governor&#8217;s office from 2012 to 2014. She also worked in the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, focusing on cases involving corruption, terrorism, drug trafficking, asset forfeiture, and money laundering.
According to a WPA Intelligence <a href="https://cdn.nucleusfiles.com/de/de97adfe-1c9a-48ea-9ce4-749dfe8de3de/wpai_oh_senate_memo_241120.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a> reported on by <a href="https://ohio.news/articles/poll-finds-larose-with-clear-lead-to-succeed-vance-in-us-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ohio.news</a>, LaRose (17%) leads among candidates for the seat on favorability and potential to defeat the Democratic candidate in the special election. Husted is in second place at 10%, according to the poll. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is in third place, according to the poll, but Yost said earlier this month that he would decline an appointment to the Senate seat as he appears to be a top candidate for governor in 2026.
The WPA Intelligence poll rounds out with Renacci and Dolan at 5%, Joyce and Davidson at 3%, Timken and Carey at 2%, and Cooke at 1%. Whoever is appointed in the coming weeks will have to run in the 2026 special election to hold onto the seat, and the regular election for the Senate seat will take place two years later in 2028.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said during an interview over the weekend that President-elect Donald Trump has the right to use the U.S. military to remove the millions of illegal aliens who are in the country.
Barrasso made the remarks during an interview on &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; about Trump&#8217;s agenda and the men and women he&#8217;s tapped to be in his administration.
When asked about Trump confirming that he is considering using the military to conduct mass deportations, Barrasso said: &#8220;Well, I support the president.&#8221;
&#8220;We have a national security crisis in this country right now because of our open border, and when he declares it a national emergency, he can appropriately use the military,&#8221; he said. &#8220;There are over 10 million illegal immigrants in the country right now.&#8221;
&#8220;We are talking about drug dealers, people in criminal cartels,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;These are folks who have actually been murdering, raping, poisoning American citizens. When you take a look at the president&#8217;s magnificent victory, the decisive victory, I think it&#8217;s because people were scared about all of these people in the country illegally. People want to feel safe in their own homes.&#8221;
Barrasso correctly noted that the overwhelming majority of the American public supports Trump conducting mass deportations.
&#8220;Yet we still have some of these big city mayors and governors who unbelievably, are more concerned about the rights, the so called rights of illegal immigrants than they are about the safety of their own citizens,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We have to make America safe again, and what the president is talking about is the right thing to do.&#8221;

Republicans and Democrats blasted FBI Director Chris Wray and Homeland Security Secretary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/alejandro-mayorkas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alejandro Mayorka</a>s on Thursday after they refused to publicly testify before the Senate Homeland Security Committee. 
The two Biden administration officials wanted to give lawmakers a closed-door briefing, saying they could not publicly testify. This request was slammed by lawmakers who said it would damage trust in the government and break precedent. 
Mayorkas was expected to be asked about FEMA&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-fema-official-ordered-relief-workers-to-skip-houses-with-trump-signs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">guidance</a> to skip homes showing support for Donald Trump during relief operations in Florida. Multiple Republicans, including Sens. Rand Paul (KY) and Katie Britt (AL), have already demanded answers from Mayorkas about the instructions, which led to at least 20 homes being skipped. 
Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), who chairs the committee, said the officials&#8217; request for the briefing to be classified was “without merit&#8221; and the first time in 15 years that the head of the FBI and DHS have refused to testify publicly. 
“Americans deserve transparent, public answers about the threats we face. Secretary Mayorkas and Director Wray’s refusal to speak publicly about their department’s work will only increase the concerns that many Americans have about our nation’s security at a challenging time, flout the Committee’s efforts to conduct responsible oversight, and will deal a serious blow to trust in our government,” he <a href="https://x.com/SenGaryPeters/status/1859600207878443326" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. 
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) called for Wray to resign and suggested that the Senate hold the two in contempt.
“Secretary Mayorkas and Director Wray’s refusal to testify publicly today in the Senate is an outrage — and a brazen attempt to avoid oversight for the political abuses at FEMA, the FBI and more. I look forward to Director Wray’s resignation,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) <a href="https://x.com/HawleyMO/status/1859603608544616660">said</a>.

“This is Mayorkas &amp; Wray giving the middle finger to the American people. They are REQUIRED BY LAW to testify. And now they’re saying it’s good enough to post something on a website? Both are unfit for office. The Senate should subpoena them immediately and hold them in contempt,” Hawley said in another <a href="https://x.com/HawleyMO/status/1859617500016546136">post</a>. 
The FBI and DHS released statements saying that the officials could only meet with lawmakers behind closed doors. 
“FBI leaders have testified extensively in public settings about the current threat environment and believe the Committee would benefit most from further substantive discussions and additional information that can only be provided in a classified setting,&#8221; the FBI <a href="https://thehill.com/national-security/5001921-senate-homeland-security-chair-criticizes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. 
In a statement, DHS <a href="https://x.com/maxpcohen/status/1859613325979533762" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that Mayorkas had already “testified 30 times during his tenure” and that it “takes seriously its obligation to respond to Congressional requests for testimony.”

Republican senators <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/nov/20/lindsey-graham-josh-hawley-say-meeting-matt-gaetz-/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">met</a> with their colleague, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance (R-OH), and Gaetz earlier in the day as part of the Trump transition team&#8217;s effort to win over their support.
Hawley said he thought the meeting &#8220;went great and it&#8217;s full steam ahead.&#8221; He also dismissed the notion that some Republicans decided to vote against Gaetz even before talking with him.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve read about my colleagues, some of them here in the Senate who say, &#8216;We&#8217;ve got deep concerns.&#8217; Of course I&#8217;m reading all of the slander and garbage in the press,&#8221; Hawley explained.
Hawley said the ruckus over Gaetz, which includes coverage of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/matt-gaetz-resigns-from-congress-following-attorney-general-nomination" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a House ethics investigation</a> into him, and others is nearly what Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh dealt with as a nominee.

Kansas Senator Roger Marshall on Wednesday introduced a bill taking aim at the core tenants of transgender ideology by defining “male” and “female” in terms of “biological truth.”
The “Defining Male and Female Act of 2024” would <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/11/KIN2463023.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">enshrine in law</a> the biological differences between men and women. The proposed legislation, which is backed by a handful of conservative organizations, says the definition is required to combat “increasing confusion about the definition of sex as a biological truth.”
Marshall reiterated that goal to The Daily Wire.
“As a physician who has delivered over 5,000 babies, I can confidently say that politicizing children&#8217;s gender to use them as pawns in their radical woke agenda is not only wrong, it is extremely dangerous. I didn’t think we would need legislation to tell us that there are only two sexes: male and female, but here we are,” Marshall said.
Marshall is the latest Republican to introduce legislation on this issue. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) this month <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/speaker-mike-johnson-makes-it-clear-a-man-cannot-become-a-woman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">introduced</a> a measure to keep men out of the women’s bathrooms in the U.S. Capitol. That bill would ensure that incoming Democrat Rep. Sarah McBride (DE), a man who identifies as a woman, could not use the same bathrooms as his female colleagues.
Marshall’s bill notes that “every individual is either male or female” and that “in no case is an individual’s sex determined by stipulation or self-identification.” It defines a female as “an individual who naturally has, had, will have, or would have, but for a congenital anomaly or intentional or unintentional disruption, the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilizes eggs for fertilization.”
It defines a male as: “an individual who naturally has, had, will have, or would have, but for a congenital anomaly or intentional or unintentional disruption, the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilizes sperm for fertilization.”
This makes a “man” an “adult human male” and a “woman” an “adult human female.” 
Marshall’s legislation is backed by Idaho Republican Sens. James Risch and Mike Crapo and Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS). Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) is set to introduce a companion bill in the House. Conservative groups including Heritage Action, Family Research Council, Concerned Women of America, and Alliance Defending Freedom also support the proposal. 
“We must codify the legal definition of sex to be based on science rather than feelings,” Marshall told The Daily Wire. “With our legislation, we can fight back against the Biden-Harris Administration’s assault on our children.&#8221;

The area was well lit. He saw a blacker-than-black object. He said it was about the size of a Prius, 4 to 6 feet wide. And as he got 40 to 60 meters away from the object, it tilted up about 45 degrees, and then it shot up vertically.&#8221;

Kosloski said the law enforcement officer claimed the orb moved &#8220;10 to 100 times faster than any drone he&#8217;s ever seen before. And it did that without making a sound, as far as he could tell from inside of his vehicle. And just as it left his field of view through his windshield, then it emitted very bright red and blue lights that illuminated the inside of his vehicle as brightly as if someone had set off fireworks just outside his vehicle, or street flares.&#8221;
&#8220;That&#8217;s anomalous because of the size of the vehicle with the great acceleration, and when he came back to investigate that area, he found no disturbance of the ground beneath it. So that&#8217;s one interesting one,&#8221; Kosloski said.

&#8220;Another one comes to us from southeast U.S.,&#8221; Kosloski continued. &#8220;There was a U.S. facility where two cars of government contractors were leaving the facility around 9 o&#8217;clock in the morning. They looked up in the sky and saw a large, metallic cylinder about the size of a commercial airplane, and it was stationary. They observed that there was a very bright white light behind or around the object. They saw it stationary for 15 to 20 seconds, and then it disappeared. Obviously, an object that large, stationary, unless it&#8217;s a blimp, is unusual, but then disappearing, we can&#8217;t explain how that would happen.&#8221;
For the third case, which Kosloski also described as &#8220;interesting,&#8221; the UFO investigator said: &#8220;We had an aircraft that was flying parallel to another aircraft, and it was capturing imagery of it, and a small-looking object appeared to fly between the two of them, much faster than them. Through very careful analysis, we think that the object might have actually been farther away than the object that it was videotaping, but it requires very careful analysis to come to those conclusions, and we don&#8217;t have the metadata to support that — yet.&#8221;

However, Republicans simply do not have the numbers — more specifically, the majority — to completely block the Democrats from ultimately confirming Biden&#8217;s judges. <a href="https://www.senate.gov/history/partydiv.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">As it stands</a>, the 47 Democrats and the independents who caucus with them outnumber the 49 Republican members.
There have been some absences on both sides of the aisle, plus Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) has <a href="https://x.com/SenatePress/status/1858654386219565467" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shown</a> a willingness to break ranks, but in the end, it would take more than GOP members showing up to create a successful blockade.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) defended Pennsylvania election officials ignoring a Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling by counting votes that the court said were invalid.
Fetterman made the remarks unchallenged during a Sunday interview on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; with host Jake Tapper.
&#8220;Your colleague Senator Bob Casey, who was up for reelection, there&#8217;s a commonwealth-mandated recount going on right now because it was so close,&#8221; Tapper said. &#8220;Democratic officials in at least one key county, Bucks County, voted to count about 115 provisional ballots that are missing a signature, despite the Pennsylvania Supreme Court previously ruling that those are invalid.&#8221;
A Democratic Bucks County official justified her actions by saying: &#8220;I think we all know that precedent by a court doesn&#8217;t matter anymore in this country and people violate laws any time they want. So, for me, if I violate this law, it&#8217;s because I want a court to pay attention to it.&#8221;
Tapper noted that even The Washington Post Editorial Board said that the move by Democrats in the state was &#8220;corrosive to democracy&#8221; and that &#8220;county officials do not get to decide whether a legal requirement is material and must be followed. Courts do and they have spoken clearly.&#8221;
When asked about Democrats defying court orders and counting invalid ballots, Fetterman suggested that it was not a big deal.
&#8220;I think you just pointed out that it refers to about 115 ballots, and that&#8217;s not going to have an impact on this race at this point,&#8221; he said, before immediately contradicting himself by saying: &#8220;Where we are now, it&#8217;s very, very close.&#8221;
&#8220;And I guarantee you, if Dave McCormick were in the opposite situation, where he was down 15,000 to 17,000 votes, he would absolutely want to have every last vote counted as well too,&#8221; he continued.

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) said over the weekend that all of President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s nominees will be given the same opportunity to be confirmed when the Senate starts its hearings in January.
Mullin made the remarks during a Sunday NBC News interview with Kristen Welker on &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; while discussing Rep. Matt Gaetz&#8217;s (R-FL) prospects of being confirmed to U.S. Attorney General.
&#8220;There&#8217;s no question that Matt Gaetz and I have had our differences,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And that&#8217;s no secret. Moving forward, I do respect President Trump&#8217;s right to appoint these individuals. But underneath Article II, section II, Congress has to advise and consent.&#8221;
&#8220;And Matt Gaetz is going to go through the same scrutiny as every other individual,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And I&#8217;m going to give him a fair shot, just like every individual. And at the end of the day, the Senate has to confirm him.&#8221;
He said that he would set aside his personal opinions of Gaetz and would solely look at whether he is qualified to hold the role.
Mullin said that he &#8220;absolutely&#8221; believes that the House Ethics Committee should release a report about alleged misconduct that was set to be released before Gaetz resigned.
&#8220;I believe the Senate should have access to that,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Now should it be released to the public or not? I guess that will be part of the negotiations. But that should be definitely part of our decision making.&#8221;
Mullin said that he agreed with some of Gaetz&#8217;s views, especially ones about needing to rein in federal departments and agencies.
