A shooting at Brown University has left two people dead, and eight injured.
On Saturday afternoon, officials at the school alerted students that there was an active shooter near the Barus and Holley engineering building, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/brown-university-reports-active-shooter-campus">according</a> to Fox News. A text alert instructed students to &#8220;lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice.&#8221;
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley provided information about the casualties during a Saturday evening press conference.
&#8220;I can confirm that there are two individuals who have died this afternoon, and there are another eight in critical status, though stable &#8230; those are the only injuries or casualties that we know at this time,&#8221; Smiley stated.

Initial reports said the shooter was in custody, but that turned out not to be the case. The latest update from Brown University confirmed the mayor&#8217;s statement, and said no suspects were in custody.
&#8220;We are very sorry to share that we have confirmed reports of two deceased victims from the active shooting situation at the Barus &amp; Holley engineering building,&#8221; the statement said. &#8220;There are eight additional victims in critical, but stable condition at the hospital. There remains a shelter in place order. The shooter or shooters still are not in custody at this time. Law enforcement is active in the area.&#8221;

Authorities said the suspect is a “male dressed in black,&#8221; but that is all that&#8217;s known so far. &#8220;We are utilizing every resource possible to find this suspect,&#8221; police said.

NASHVILLE—Nearly 100 students, bright-eyed and hungry for change, gathered at the Tennessee State Capitol Building Friday morning, some having driven all night to make it to the event.
There, in a room full of young conservatives, a group of Tennessee officials, including Senator Marsha Blackburn (R), announced a partnership with Turning Point USA. Soon, every high school in the state will have a chapter of Club America, TPUSA&#8217;s high school affiliate.
Club America, like all of TPUSA, aims to advance the mission of the group&#8217;s late founder, Charlie Kirk: make being a conservative cool.
&#8220;The founding of the country, the Constitution, capitalism,&#8221; TPUSA Senior Director Josh Thifault told The Daily Wire. &#8220;The branding is meant to feel like it&#8217;s something that everybody wants to be part of because I mean, who doesn&#8217;t want to be part of Club America? We wanted to create a presentation to high schools that would be very tough to say no to.&#8221;
Blackburn was joined by women&#8217;s sports activist Riley Gaines and Tennessee Senator Jack Johnson for the announcement. The Volunteer State joins Texas and Florida, which have also taken steps to launch Club America chapters throughout their states.
One of the last in-depth conversations Thifault had with Kirk before the latter was assassinated in September was about expanding Club America. Thifault said with Republican states fully backing the mission, TPUSA can get to Kirk&#8217;s goal of 20,000 chapters.
&#8220;I&#8217;m very thankful for all the commitments that Tennessee made,&#8221; he said Friday. &#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of wonderful people who worked a lot to make this happen. Also, I have to give special credit to Riley Gaines because she&#8217;s the one who, as soon as it became pretty clear we were working something out, shouted it from the rooftops.&#8221;
Gaines spent nearly an hour after the partnership was announced taking pictures with the students who traveled to Nashville for the event. The former Kentucky swimmer and new mom challenged the students to bring five friends to a Club America event and keep the movement growing.
&#8220;I think we&#8217;ve now understood that Tennessee, especially with the recent congressional race here in this district, is not immune,&#8221; Gaines said. &#8220;I think so many of us almost develop a sense of complacency because we think it can&#8217;t happen to me. Nobody is immune to the cultural chaos that is plaguing this nation and even plaguing this state.&#8221;

One of the students who drove hours to be at the State Capitol on Friday was Riley Belt. The junior out of Providence Christian in Johnson City said Tennessee&#8217;s partnership with TPUSA makes her excited for her peers.
&#8220;Our generation is definitely a turning point,&#8221; Belt said. &#8220;We just want to be able to help teach kids like us how to help change our nation and lead us back to conservative values and back to Christ. That&#8217;s what it&#8217;s all about.&#8221;
Since Kirk&#8217;s assassination, Club America chapters in Tennessee have grown from 30 to 104. Belt helped start her school&#8217;s chapter in November. Because of the pact formed Friday, that number is only expected to grow.
&#8220;One person can&#8217;t do it on their own, but we&#8217;re surrounded by people who also share these values and want to make America what Charlie wanted it to be,&#8221; Belt said. &#8220;That&#8217;s what we&#8217;re fighting for.&#8221;

A Stanford Medicine research team has confirmed that mRNA-based COVID vaccines can cause inflammation of the heart muscle, known as myocarditis, which can be fatal.
The study, recently <a href="https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2025/12/myocarditis-vaccine-covid.html">published</a> in the journal &#8220;Science Translational Medicine,&#8221; concludes that these mRNA vaccines can trigger certain immune cells to produce inflammatory proteins, specifically CXCL10 and IFN-gamma, which can cause heart issues.
“It’s not a heart attack in the traditional sense,” Dr. Joseph Wu, a senior author of the study and the director of the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute, explained. “There’s no blockage of blood vessels as found in most common heart attacks. When symptoms are mild and the inflammation hasn’t caused structural damage to the heart, we just observe these patients to make sure they recover.”
Some patients, though, can suffer severe complications, including death, Wu said.
The researcher confirmed that COVID itself &#8220;can cause myocarditis,&#8221; and &#8220;to a lesser extent, so can the mRNA vaccines.&#8221;
For reasons still unknown, the vaccines are tied to a heightened risk in males under the age of 30, particularly those who receive multiple doses, the study found.
&#8220;Vaccine-associated myocarditis occurs in about one in every 140,000 vaccines after a first dose and rises to one in 32,000 after a second dose,&#8221; Stanford Medicine News Center <a href="https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2025/12/myocarditis-vaccine-covid.html">said</a>. &#8220;For reasons that aren’t clear, incidence peaks among male vaccines age 30 or below, at one in 16,750 vaccines.&#8221;
Recently, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) vaccine chief Dr. Vinay Prasad proposed in an internal memo an overhaul to how vaccines are evaluated and approved, basically initiating tougher standards.

This would reportedly include full randomized clinical trials even for updated or routine vaccines, like the flu shot. The changes would allow for an evaluation of real-world protection, not just antibody levels, as well as rates of side effects, and more information on risk-benefit analysis. 
Notably, the memo cited at least 10 children who died “after and because of” receiving COVID vaccines as the apparent driving force behind the tougher vaccine standards.
The medical establishment quickly revolted over the proposed standards. For example, twelve former FDA officials denounced the memo in an editorial, claiming it casts doubt on vaccine safety. They also said the new standards “reject long-standing science” and will slow innovation. 
In response to the backlash from the establishment, Health and Human Services (HHS) press secretary Emily Hilliard told The Daily Wire that the American people “deserve evidence-based science,” and said Dr. Prasad’s email “lays out a philosophical framework that points us toward that higher standard.”
Hilliard also said HHS will “soon release documents laying out that framework” as well as data confirming how the COVID-19 vaccine resulted in children’s deaths that &#8220;previous leadership failed to properly investigate.”
The FDA is also currently <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/12/09/vaccine-covid-coronavirus-safety-fda/">investigating</a> adult deaths connected to the COVID vaccines.

The man on trial for the assassination of 31-year-old conservative commentator Charlie Kirk allegedly talked about the fatal shooting and Kirk&#8217;s widow, Erika Kirk, while appearing in court this week.
Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old alleged assassin, said to someone on his defense team that he thinks about the shooting &#8220;every morning&#8221; and noted Kirk was married while appearing to smile, a deaf woman and professional lip reader named Nicola Hickling claims, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/12/12/us-news/charlie-kirks-alleged-assassin-tyler-robinson-said-he-thinks-about-the-shooting-everyday-mentions-wife-erika-in-chilling-court-exchange-lipreader/">reported</a>.
&#8220;I think about the shooting daily,&#8221; Robinson allegedly said. &#8220;Every morning … all the time&#8230;&#8221;

Robinson was arrested in September and is facing a slew of charges related to Kirk’s murder, including aggravated murder, felony use of a firearm, and obstruction of justice. Robinson has not yet entered a plea.
Some on social media commented generally on Robinson&#8217;s body language and frequent smiling and smirking in court.

President Donald Trump on Friday honored members of the U.S. men&#8217;s ice hockey team who beat their Soviet rivals in what was called the &#8220;Miracle on Ice&#8221; during the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid.
Trump hosted the players in the Oval Office and signed a bill to award congressional medals in the team&#8217;s honor. All were wearing white cowboy hats, and Trump briefly donned one, too. The team wore the hats during the opening ceremony of the 1980 Winter Olympics.
&#8220;This was one of the biggest moments that I&#8217;ve ever seen in sports &#8230; These are the men that gave us one of the most storied athletic wins of all time,&#8221; Trump said.
The event, with 13 members of the gold medal-winning team, included captain Mike Eruzione, goaltender Jim Craig and forward Buzz Schneider. The son of deceased coach Herb Brooks was also in attendance.
One of the team&#8217;s members, Ken Morrow, told Trump that the &#8220;USA! USA!&#8221; chant, now common at Trump rallies, originated in Lake Placid. &#8220;That&#8217;s right! I tried to take credit for that,&#8221; Trump responded.

Captain Eruzione praised his team for not just winning against the Soviets but also in the final game versus Finland. &#8220;A lot of us take great pride in knowing that we closed the deal,&#8221; he said.
The squad of U.S. college players ended the Soviets&#8217; reign as four-time Olympic champions with a 4-3 triumph that many consider the greatest upset in the history of sport.
The U.S. beat the Soviet team 4-3 in the semi-finals, winning the gold two days later against Finland.
The game captivated Americans during bitter Cold War tensions between the U.S. and Soviet Union. The American players were inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 1983.

A federal judge in California ruled on Friday that Live Nation and its subsidiary Ticketmaster must face a class action on behalf of millions of Americans for allegedly overcharging them for events at major concert venues across the country.
U.S. District Judge George Wu in Los Angeles ruled that the plaintiffs met the criteria to expand their lawsuit into a class action seeking 15 years of alleged damages tied to the purchase of more than 400 million tickets.
Live Nation had urged Wu to deny certifying the lawsuit as a class action. The company and attorneys for the plaintiffs did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The class covers consumers who bought tickets directly from Ticketmaster or a Live Nation affiliate for events at major venues since 2010.

Beverly Hills, California-based Live Nation was accused in the 2022 lawsuit of monopolizing ticketing services, allowing the company to charge artificially high prices in violation of antitrust law.
Live Nation and Ticketmaster have denied any wrongdoing.
In their opposition to class certification, Live Nation and Ticketmaster told Wu that individualized issues involving tickets sold for 1,000 venues made it impossible to hold a single trial on the plaintiffs’ allegations.
Live Nation said the venues, not Ticketmaster, set fees paid by fans, often on a show-by-show basis.
The U.S. Supreme Court in October declined to hear a bid by Live Nation and Ticketmaster to move the lawsuit out of federal court and into private arbitration.
Live Nation faces other antitrust lawsuits over its ticketing practices, including an antitrust action filed in federal court in Manhattan by the U.S. Justice Department and a group of states. The company has denied any wrongdoing in that case.

As Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem clashed with Democrat lawmakers on Thursday over the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were continuing to arrest illegals convicted of horrific crimes.
Noem testified before the House Homeland Security Committee on Thursday, where she was heckled by anti-ICE protesters and questioned by lawmakers about security threats facing the United States. While she was being protested, ICE was picking up illegals convicted of sex crimes and other violent charges, DHS told The Daily Wire.
“Some of the disgusting animals arrested yesterday sexually abused children and disabled victims,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesman told The Daily Wire. “Sanctuary politicians protect these criminal illegal aliens and allow them to terrorize the citizens of this country. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, we are prioritizing AMERICAN CITIZENS. We are getting the worst of the worst out of our neighborhoods and out of our country.”

Prosecutors said that former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore, who was arrested on Wednesday, threatened to kill himself in front of a staffer with whom he had an intimate relationship.
These details were revealed Friday in District Court in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where the 39-year-old has been charged with felony home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering.
Moore, appearing virtually for the arraignment, sat handcuffed as the prosecutor described the events that took place on Wednesday after Moore was fired over his alleged inappropriate relationship.
Moore barged into the victim’s apartment on Wednesday, grabbed several butter knives, as well as a pair of scissors, and started threatening his own life, prosecutors said.
&#8220;I am going to kill myself. I am going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You’ve ruined my life,&#8221; Moore said, according to prosecutors.
First Assistant Prosecutor Kati Rezmierski said the victim was terrorized: “A series of very intimidating and terrifying statements and behaviors there in that apartment.”

According to new information released by Pittsfield Police, Moore left the apartment after making the threats to harm himself, prior to officers arriving.
Moore was quickly located by officers a few miles south of the apartment. The 39-year-old was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital for evaluation before being booked in the Washtenaw County Jail.
Magistrate Odetalla gave Moore a $25,000 cash bond. He will be GPS tether monitored and has been told not to make contact with the victim or go to her residence. As a condition of his bond, the judge ordered Moore to continue his mental health treatment.
The victim, who isn&#8217;t being named in this case, had an alleged relationship with Moore that lasted years, despite Moore being married with three daughters. The prosecutors said Monday that when the victim broke the relationship off, Moore didn&#8217;t take it very well and continued to call and send numerous texts to the victim. The victim informed Michigan of the relationship on Wednesday, leading to Moore&#8217;s swift termination.
After posting bond, which Moore&#8217;s attorney Joe Simon expects to happen Friday, the former coach cannot leave Michigan without court approval. Simon wouldn&#8217;t comment on where Moore is going after posting bond. His next court appearance is January 22, 2026.
The University of Michigan told The Daily Wire that the school is unable to comment any further on this &#8220;personal&#8221; matter.

Activist group One Fair Wage is pushing a 2026 ballot effort in Maryland to get a $25 minimum wage, which would be much higher than any other state in the nation – sparking concerns from some economists about the potential impact.
“$25 isn’t radical! It’s survival,” the group posted to X on Friday morning. “One Fair Wage is pushing a 2026 ballot measure to make Maryland the first state with a true living wage for all workers.”
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, but many states and territories go beyond that, with California at $16.50 an hour and Washington, D.C., at $17.95 an hour. If One Fair Wage’s proposal went into effect, a full-time worker could make a minimum of $52,000 a year.
Maryland-based economist Rachel Greszler, Senior Research Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, said that the proposal could create serious issues because of its drastic nature.
The Old Line State’s minimum wage is currently $15 an hour, with Montgomery County having a minimum wage as high as $17.65 for companies over 51 people.

“I think it’s insane. Maryland’s already trying to compete, especially with Virginia nearby, and you were losing businesses, especially the small businesses, which are disproportionately affected by high minimum wages, and to do this is just gonna exacerbate the problems that we’re having with the budget, of course, and of having good jobs for people,” she said, noting that “good intentions don’t necessarily lead to good outcomes.&#8221; Virginia&#8217;s minimum wage will go $12.77 an hour starting January 1.
“You need these starting wages to be able to step onto the ladder and then be able to climb it. If that first step is $25 an hour or $52,000 a year, a lot of people would just never be able to step onto it,” she said, noting the risk of youth employment decline even further.
Greszler wrote in September for the <a href="https://epicforamerica.org/education-workforce-retirement/americas-youth-employment-lacking/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Economic Policy Innovation Center</a> that teen employment has gone down 15.6% since 2000 to only 30%.
Non-partisan business groups have also raised concerns about the suggested increase.
&#8220;We understand that many Marylanders are struggling with the cost of living and want better opportunities to get ahead. But Maryland&#8217;s economy is already struggling to create and keep jobs, and raising the minimum wage to $25 would make it even harder,” the Maryland Chamber of Commerce told <a href="https://www.wmar2news.com/local/a-minimum-wage-of-25-an-hour-in-maryland-could-be-put-to-a-vote-in-2026" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WMAR 2 News Baltimore</a> in November.
If it makes it to the ballot, Greszler is not confident that the measure would pass, despite the hope from activists that it could excite voters, according to WMAR.
“I think it’s such a big jump,” she said. “I could see them going for a smaller one.”
The economist noted that she feels “sympathy” on the issue due to cost-of-living concerns, but added that “there’s no way that that’s gonna be sustainable.”
“Half of people who earn it are under age 24. It’s primarily teenagers. And more than half of the people who are earning the minimum wage are just working part-time,” she noted.

A federal judge ordered Abrego Garcia’s release from ICE custody at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, arguing that the federal government had no legal basis for holding him. Abrego Garcia was appearing for a routine check-in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Baltimore when he delivered remarks before a crowd of activists.
“I stand here today with my head held up high. And I will continue to fight and stand firm against all of the injustices this government has done upon me,” Abrego Garcia said.
Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin called the judge&#8217;s decision &#8220;naked judicial activism,&#8221; pledging &#8220;to fight this tooth and nail in the courts.”
Abrego Garcia&#8217;s legal team condemned the Trump administration, saying they need to face &#8220;consequences.&#8221;
“This is not about one man or one family or one community — this isn’t even about the issue of immigration. This is about power over law,” Abrego Garcia&#8217;s attorney Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg said.
“The Trump administration has always chosen to use Mr. Abrego Garcia to try to stand for the principle that they get to do whatever they want to whomever they want whenever they want — with no consequences. There need to be consequences for the government, and that’s what we as his legal team are fighting for,&#8221; he added.

Abrego Garcia was seen behind the wheel with eight other passengers in tow in body camera footage taken during the incident.
Although the group had been on the road for days as they made their way from Texas to Maryland, they had no luggage in the car.
A responding officer noted that he suspected “a human trafficking incident,&#8221; but they ultimately let Abrego Garcia go with a citation for driving with an expired license.

Earlier this week, The Washington Post launched a customizable artificial intelligence podcast format targeting younger adults, but the episodes are causing headaches for news and standards editors at the paper, Semafor <a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/12/11/2025/washington-posts-ai-generated-podcasts-rife-with-errors-fictional-quotes">reported</a> on Thursday.
The Post&#8217;s new AI format, called “Your Personal Podcast,&#8221; allows users to customize their listening experience by choosing the topic, host, and length of a show, per a <a href="https://digiday.com/media/the-washington-post-debuts-ai-personalized-podcasts-to-hook-younger-listeners/">report</a> from marketing and media website Digiday. But according to Semafor, which viewed internal communications from the Post, the AI podcasts are spitting out fake quotes and adding commentary to stories that are supposed to be simple news reports.
Washington Post staff began flagging issues immediately after the AI podcasts were released to the public. The AI behind &#8220;Your Personal Podcast&#8221; has made significant changes to story content, including inventing quotes and presenting them as the Post&#8217;s editorial position on a particular issue.
The disastrous AI podcast rollout has reportedly infuriated editors who are already trying to push back on the Trump administration after it recently <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/mediabias/">labeled</a> the Post one of the worst &#8220;media offenders.&#8221;
“It is truly astonishing that this was allowed to go forward at all,” one Post editor said, according to Semafor. “Never would I have imagined that the Washington Post would deliberately warp its own journalism and then push these errors out to our audience at scale. And just days after the White House put up a site dedicated to attacking journalists, most notably our own, including for stories with corrections or editors notes attached. If we were serious we would pull this tool immediately.”
Karen Pensiero, the Post&#8217;s head of standards, added that the AI debacle has been &#8220;frustrating for all of us.&#8221;

The Washington, D.C., newspaper has been looking for ways to incorporate AI-generated content into its audio platforms and signed a multi-year deal with AI voice-generating software company ElevenLabs in May 2024. Media outlets, including the Post, Time, and The Atlantic, have used ElevenLabs to create audio versions of articles on their websites, but the Post&#8217;s &#8220;Your Personal Podcast&#8221; project took AI generation to a new level in media production.
Bailey Kattleman, the Post’s head of product and design, said that &#8220;Your Personal Podcast&#8221; would give news consumers a &#8220;flexible way&#8221; to access the paper&#8217;s wide array of stories, according to Digiday. Kattleman said that she is excited to learn what the customizable AI-generated content says about listeners&#8217; habits and interests.
“It’s early, and it’s an experimental product in a lot of ways,” she said. “It’s kind of inventing a new category in a way. It’s so different from traditional podcasts. We’ll definitely be looking at habit-based metrics rather than volume in the early going.”
Semafor&#8217;s report on the Post&#8217;s plunge into AI-generated content, however, suggests that the move could come back to bite the newspaper that is attempting to redefine its image. The Post, which was purchased by billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in 2013, is supposedly in the process of making major changes to its opinion section per orders from Bezos.
Bezos told the Post’s staff in an email in February, “We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others.”
The Post&#8217;s news team has continued to face criticism after publishing a story late last month claiming that War Secretary Pete Hegseth issued an order for a second strike on a suspected drug boat after he saw survivors in the water and gave the command to “kill them all.” The Post&#8217;s reporting, which relied on &#8220;two people with direct knowledge of the operation,&#8221; was refuted by Navy Admiral Mitch Bradley, who told Congress that Hegseth did not give a &#8220;kill them all&#8221; order.

The Justice Department&#8217;s mortgage fraud case against New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James was dealt another blow on Thursday when a grand jury in Virginia declined to indict her, according to multiple reports.
After prosecutors presented evidence before a grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia, on Thursday, the jury refused to sign off on an indictment. Abbe Lowell, a lawyer for James, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/grand-jury-again-rejects-charges-trump-sought-against-ny-attorney-general-james-2025-12-11/">said</a> that the grand jury&#8217;s decision &#8220;makes even clearer that this case should never have seen the light of day.&#8221;
James has argued that the Justice Department&#8217;s case against her is &#8220;retribution&#8221; for her civil fraud case against President Donald Trump and his company. James was indicted by a federal grand jury in October on felony charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution, but the case against her hit a roadblock last month when a federal judge <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/federal-judge-tosses-charges-against-james-comey-letitia-james?author=Tim+Pearce&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Federal+Judge+Tosses+Charges+Against+James+Comey%2C+Letitia+James">dismissed</a> it and threw out the initial indictment after finding that the Trump-appointed prosecutor overseeing the case was unlawfully appointed.
The federal grand jury&#8217;s rejection on Thursday is the second time the Justice Department has been rebuffed after accusing James of fraudulently claiming a house in Virginia as her primary home in 2023 while serving as New York&#8217;s attorney general. Last week, after the Justice Department refiled the case against James, a grand jury declined to indict her.

The mortgage fraud allegations against James stem from her purchase of a three-bedroom home in Norfolk, Virginia, in 2020. James secured favorable loan terms by claiming that the house was her secondary residence, according to the indictment. However, the indictment states that James did not use the house as a residence, instead renting it out to a family, The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/justice-department-secures-indictment-of-new-york-attorney-general-letitia-james-0cc2ce4f?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=ASWzDAjz3_xVxqjqGd7DOAjeW9OF_fgoGbzqZNeWtCjLpTn-BtEnWes9wDcj_m33JUg%3D&amp;gaa_ts=68e822e1&amp;gaa_sig=8uhDExWB_EYX_l_bkm5ln2OOTBmY2wZMaB-DdqgJDjcxIxhcKe5QqAAS2ER6wvES1alU0eaHvP7KW_UXYdeMtA%3D%3D">reported</a>. James allegedly saved nearly $19,000 from the favorable loan rates.
The Justice Department could attempt to indict James again, but with a second grand jury rejection, a judge could be skeptical of another push by the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia to bring a case against James.
Charges against former FBI Director James Comey were also tossed after the federal judge found that President Donald Trump&#8217;s appointment of Lindsey Halligan as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia was unlawful. The Justice Department could also refile charges against Comey after accusing him of giving false statements and obstruction of a congressional proceeding. The charges stemmed from testimony Comey delivered to Congress in 2020 on his handling of the FBI investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
