The Trump administration does not plan to intervene to stop the extradition of controversial influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate to the United Kingdom, despite the brothers&#8217; legal team urging Secretary of State Marco Rubio to step in.
A senior administration official told <a href="https://www.axios.com/2026/07/22/trump-rubio-tate-brothers-extradition">Axios</a> on Wednesday that the United States will not block the proceedings as the brothers fight extradition in federal court. &#8220;The U.S. has an extradition treaty with the U.K. and the administration intends to honor it in this case,&#8221; the official said.
The State Department likewise indicated it has no plans to intervene. A senior department official said Rubio has not spoken with the Tate brothers or their attorneys and that the department &#8220;has no plans to act on this matter at this time.&#8221;

The charges include allegations of rape, sex trafficking, assault, and offenses involving indecent images of children and extreme pornography.
The brothers have thus far denied all wrongdoing, and they appeared Monday before a federal judge in Miami to begin extradition proceedings. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, argued outside the courthouse that the prosecution is politically motivated and has vowed to challenge the request. &#8220;We are of course objecting to extradition because Andrew and Tristan are innocent,&#8221; McBride told <a href="https://apnews.com/article/andrew-tristan-tate-sex-trafficking-rape-uk-miami-3a3748e075f49b00f286a003f5103485">reporters</a>. &#8220;They&#8217;ve never done nothing wrong. They shouldn&#8217;t be extradited for crimes they did not commit.&#8221;
McBride has also argued that Rubio has the authority to deny the extradition request if he determines the brothers are being politically persecuted. Court filings acknowledge the secretary retains final authority over extradition decisions after judicial proceedings conclude, but administration officials have indicated there is no appetite to exercise that discretion in this case.

The extradition case is only the latest legal challenge facing the brothers. They remain under criminal investigation in Romania on separate human trafficking and rape allegations, which they have also denied.
A federal judge has scheduled the brothers&#8217; next hearing for July 27 as the extradition process continues. If the court determines the treaty requirements are met, the final decision on whether to surrender the brothers to British authorities will rest with Rubio, though administration officials have made clear they currently have no intention of blocking the request.

The Pakistani Muslim ringleader of a grooming gang targeting young girls in the United Kingdom has been released from prison eight years early. 
Shabir Ahmed was sentenced to 22 years in prison after his 2012 conviction for multiple rape and sexual offenses against girls as young as 13. Outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer requested that the British government look into deporting Ahmed immediately. 
Sara Rowbotham, a former National Health Service worker who helped uncover Ahmed’s crimes, said his release comes far too soon. 
“He was able to coerce, manipulate, and organize a highly manipulative group of men, and when in court he was volatile in court and towards the judge. There have been no indications that his views have changed,&#8221; Rowbotham said.
“The de-investment in probation services means that any monitoring of him and his behavior is likely to be really weak. Who is going to make sure he and maybe others do not seek revenge?” she added.

Gerald Clifton, the judge overseeing Ahmed’s case, said his victims were treated “as though they were worthless and beyond any respect” because they were not Pakistani Muslims. Ahmed’s defense focused on labeling the children “prostitutes” and argued that Judge Clifton was “racist.” More than 60 men were convicted in relation to Ahmed’s grooming gang in Rochdale, England. 
The Home Office, the U.K. government’s lead department for policing, border security, and immigration, called Ahmed’s crimes “appalling” and said he would be supervised 24/7 while wearing an electronically monitored GPS tag. 
“His every movement will be tracked, and forced to wear an electronic tag. He will rightly be on the sex offenders register for life, ordered to stay away from his victims and banned from contacting any child or young person,” <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4gyx0vldrlo">said</a> a spokeswoman familiar with the matter. 
A letter sent to one of Ahmed’s victims revealed that the government does not currently have plans to deport Ahmed back to Pakistan due to the 1971 Immigration Act. The act says immigrants who arrived in Britain before 1973 and lived in the country for more than five years cannot be deported. 
A victim, who did not want to be publicly named, told the BBC that she was “scared for my safety and my kids’ safety.” She added, “The main ringleader is getting out of prison, who is well known in Rochdale, Oldham, and Middleton, so even if he&#8217;s not in that area, he still knows people and has a chance to talk to people from that area and that makes me unsafe.”

Law enforcement said the suspect, Hadi Alodid, a Sudanese national, pinned Stephen Ogilvie to the ground and repeatedly stabbed him in the face and neck during Monday&#8217;s attack. “He’s trying to cut his head off!” a person can be heard shouting in the video. 
Ogilvie survived the attack but reportedly suffered devastating injuries, including the loss of an eye and deep wounds to his head and back. The incident quickly became the latest flashpoint in a years-long debate over mass migration and whether political leaders have ignored concerns raised by their own people.
Within hours of the attack, demonstrations erupted across Belfast and continued into Wednesday. Video from the scene showed vehicles set ablaze, roads blocked, and clashes between protesters and police as anger spread throughout parts of Northern Ireland.
At first glance, riots in Belfast following an attack by a migrant might seem like Europe&#8217;s problem. St. George&#8217;s Day commemorates various things; according to some, the real St. George was likely a Greek-born soldier in the Roman Guard. He was executed on April 23, 303 AD, because he refused to renounce his Christian faith during the persecutions of the Emperor Diocletian. The day is primarily a religious feast day marking the anniversary of his death.
The most famous reason for the celebration is the legend of St. George and the Dragon. According to legend, a dragon was terrorizing a town, demanding human sacrifices. British police arrested a fourth person in connection with an arson attack on Jewish community ambulances, with the detention happening at a London court where three males already charged in the case were appearing, prosecutors said on Saturday.
Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons, are accused of torching four ambulances belonging to the Jewish volunteer emergency service Hatzola on March 23 while they were parked near a synagogue in the Golders Green area of north London.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the incident at the time as a &#8220;deeply shocking antisemitic arson attack.&#8221;
The SITE Intelligence ​website has said an Iran-aligned multinational militant collective called Islamic ​Movement of ⁠the People of the Right Hand had claimed responsibility for the incident.
It said the group had been behind similar fires in Europe.
Counter-terrorism officers are heading the investigation in Britain, but as yet the incident is not being treated as terrorism.
A prosecutor from the Crown Prosecution Service said police believe four people were involved in carrying out the attack itself, with a fourth individual being arrested on Saturday morning as part of an ongoing investigation.
The Metropolitan Police said the fourth suspect was a 19-year-old man who had been arrested by officers at the court while attending the hearing, after officers recognised him as being linked to the attack. He was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and taken into custody.
Three men have been charged with arson with intent to damage property and being reckless as to whether life would be endangered. Two are British nationals, while the third holds dual British‑Pakistani citizenship.
All three were remanded in custody, with the 17‑year‑old ordered to be held in youth detention accommodation.
Hatzola is a not-for-profit volunteer emergency service that works alongside Britain&#8217;s National Health Service and primarily serves the Orthodox Jewish community.
The London Fire Brigade said explosions from cylinders on the vehicles shattered nearby windows, but no one was injured.
Attacks on Jewish people and Jewish targets have risen in Britain since the October 2023 Hamas assault on Israel that triggered the war in Gaza, according to police and community groups.

President Trump used the past tense on Saturday to describe the U.K. as America’s “once great ally” when he rejected the country&#8217;s offer to send aircraft carriers to the Middle East.
“The United Kingdom, our once great ally, made the greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East,” said Trump. “That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer. But we will remember. We don’t need people that join wars after we’ve already won.” 
Before changing his stance, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer had criticized the strikes, <a href="https://x.com/search?q=uk&amp;src=typed_query">saying</a>, “Donald Trump has plunged the Middle East into chaos. We will stand by ethics, no matter the pressure.”
At a press conference on Friday, Starmer <a href="https://x.com/ChinaNow24/status/2030009994587025619">explained</a> the policy shift came when Iran started attacking countries around the Gulf and the surrounding region.
“When Iran started attacking countries around the Gulf and the wider region, the situation changed. Iran has now fired drones and missiles at ten countries that did not attack them,&#8221; Starmer said. &#8220;These are allies of the U.K. where we have hundreds of thousands of British people as well as British military personnel. Our number one priority is protecting our people.&#8221;
Before Iran’s attacks, Starmer explained he only wanted a negotiated settlement with Iran where they would give up their nuclear ambitions. “That’s why I took the decision that the U.K. would not join the initial strikes on Iran by the U.S. and Israel. That decision was deliberate. It was in the national interest and I stand by it.&#8221;
Trump <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-slams-starmer-not-winston-churchill-refusal-back-iran-strikes">criticized</a> Starmer on his initial decision, saying, “This is not Winston Churchill we are dealing with.”
Initially, Starmer blocked the United States from using British military bases for strikes against Iran during Operation Epic Fury. However, the U.K. later gave Trump permission for “defensive strikes.”
The president wanted to use British territories in the Indian Ocean. Days later, the U.K. agreed, but for the intervening time, American air forces had to make other arrangements.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has seen his approval rating in the United Kingdom plunge to around 50 points underwater, boasted about his country&#8217;s decision to stay out of the conflict in Iran to a group of Muslims on Tuesday.
Starmer <a href="https://x.com/Suffragent_/status/2028949451490881950">spoke</a> to Muslims at a Ramadan ceremony held at Westminster Hall on Tuesday night and was applauded when he said, &#8220;On Iran, I want to make clear that the U.K. was not involved in the offensive strikes of the U.S. and Israel, and that remains the case.&#8221;
&#8220;As many of you know, I never supported the Iraq war back in 2003, and I&#8217;m determined that we learn and follow the lessons today,&#8221; he added. &#8220;However, Iran has attacked countries like us who played no role &#8230; the attacks are indiscriminate. And so what we are now doing is allowing our bases to be used for the defensive purposes of preventing those attacks and protecting innocent lives.&#8221;
After President Donald Trump authorized the U.S. military to conduct joint strikes with Israel on Iran last weekend, Starmer immediately <a href="https://x.com/Keir_Starmer/status/2027756559304966356">made clear</a> that while Iran &#8220;poses a direct threat&#8221; to many Brits, especially Iranian dissidents and Jewish people, the United Kingdom was not involved in the strikes targeting Iranian leaders, military infrastructure, and nuclear sites. Starmer also initially refused to allow American forces to use British bases to conduct strikes.
After Trump <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/mar/02/uk-airbases-us-attack-iran-trump-starmer">ripped</a> Starmer over the refusal to grant the United States military permission to use U.K. bases, the prime minister backed down and allowed American forces to use the United Kingdom&#8217;s base in Diego Garcia, an island in the Indian Ocean. Trump said Britain &#8220;took far too long&#8221; to agree to the U.S. military&#8217;s request to operate out of Diego Garcia for &#8220;Operation Epic Fury.&#8221;
Trump argued that Britain should have been fully on board with the Iran strikes, saying that Iran has been responsible for killing a &#8220;lot of people from your country.&#8221;
Starmer&#8217;s remarks at the Ramadan ceremony on Tuesday were criticized by conservatives who have warned that Britain&#8217;s lax immigration policies are moving the country away from its traditional Western values, as scores of Muslim migrants have moved to London and the surrounding area in recent years. England&#8217;s Muslim population has jumped to around four million from less than three million in 2011. Muslims now make up around 6% of the United Kingdom&#8217;s total population.
England has also reportedly been a haven for Mojtaba Khamenei, the man poised to take over as Iran&#8217;s Supreme Leader following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2026-01-28/how-iran-supreme-leader-khamenei-s-son-built-a-global-property-empire">reported</a> in January that Mojtaba Khamenei is part of a vast Iranian network that has bought property throughout Europe, including &#8220;more than a dozen properties in London.&#8221;
Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly acquired the properties through Iranian businessman Ali Ansari, who has been sanctioned by the United Kingdom and the United States. One of Mojtaba Khamenei&#8217;s properties is on The Bishops Avenue, considered to be one of the most affluent streets in the world.
U.S. diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks in 2008 also <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/04/world-news/ayatollah-khameneis-son-now-tipped-to-be-supreme-leader-was-apparently-treated-for-impotency-in-uk-hospitals-report/">report</a> that Mojtaba Khamenei made multiple trips to London to receive medical treatment for impotence after struggling to conceive a child with his wife.

The British government is considering removing former Prince Andrew from the line of succession following his recent arrest.
The legislation would prevent Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from ever becoming king, the BBC reported.
Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his titles last year, but is still eighth in line to the throne. He would only be next in line following the deaths of Prince William, William’s three children, Prince Harry, and Harry’s two children.
Removing Mountbatten-Windsor from succession would be the “right thing to do,” Defence Minister Luke Pollard told the BBC.
The government would not take steps to remove Mountbatten-Windsor until after the police investigation concludes, Pollard said. He added that he hoped the move would “enjoy cross-party support.”

Still, James Murray, chief secretary to the Treasury, told the BBC that “any questions in that sphere would be quite complicated.”
Thames Valley Police arrested Mountbatten-Windsor on his 66th birthday on Thursday, The Daily Wire previously reported. He was held on suspicion of misconduct in public office but released later that day, according to the BBC.
His was the first arrest of a member of the British royal family since Charles I was arrested almost 400 years ago.
Law enforcement said Mountbatten-Windsor was being investigated over concerns that he shared “confidential material,” reportedly including trade documents, with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Mountbatten-Windsor could face life in prison if convicted.
“Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office,” Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said at the time.
The Metropolitan Police expanded the investigation Friday and is contacting all of Andrew’s former protection officers, The Times reported.
King Charles III called for a fair investigation into Mountbatten-Windsor.
“What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities,” he said in a statement following Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest. “In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”
Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre, who died by apparent suicide last year, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-prince-andrew-arrested-over-epstein-files-faces-life-in-prison">alleged</a> that Mountbatten-Windsor sexually abused her when she was 17. He previously <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-60667111">settled</a> a civil lawsuit brought by Giuffre in 2022 without admitting wrongdoing.
“He knows what he’s done and he can attest to that,” Giuffre said in 2019. “He knows exactly what he’s done and I hope he comes clean about it.”
Giuffre&#8217;s family welcomed the arrest.
&#8220;Today, our broken hearts have been lifted at the news that no one is above the law, not even royalty,&#8221; they said. &#8220;He was never a prince.&#8221;

A BBC TV news host may face consequences for making her “disgust” obvious when being forced to use the phrase “pregnant people” while reading from a teleprompter earlier this year.
Martine Croxall had twenty formal complaints lodged against her following a June broadcast. 
“London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has released research, which says that nearly 600 heat-related deaths are expected in the U.K.,” Croxall said during the broadcast in question.
“Malcolm Mistry, who was involved in the research, says that the aged, pregnant people… women,” she went on after a pause, “and those with pre-existing health conditions need to take precautions.”

BBC News reps initially defended Croxall’s delivery, saying her reaction was because of “scripting which somewhat clumsily incorporated phrases from the press release accompanying the research.”
But now that’s changed. The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (ECU) <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3epwz08ewzo">announced</a> Thursday that Croxall had indeed violated its prescribed editorial standards of impartiality.
“The phrase ‘pregnant people’ was followed by a facial expression which has been variously interpreted by complainants as showing disgust, ridicule, contempt or exasperation,” the news release from the ECU <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/ecu/news-1230pm-news-channel-21-june-2025">said</a>.
“…The ECU considered the facial expression which accompanied the change of ‘people’ to ‘women’ laid it open to the interpretation that it indicated a particular viewpoint in the controversies currently surrounding trans identity, and the congratulatory messages Ms. Croxall later received on social media, together with the critical views expressed in the complaints to the BBC and elsewhere, tended to confirm that the impression of her having expressed a personal view was widely shared across the spectrum of opinion on the issue,” it said.
While the statement did not detail any punishments Croxall will receive for her actions, social media has been congratulating her for taking a stand for team sanity ever since the incident occurred.
Piers Morgan said, “The BBC expects a female presenter to use the words ‘pregnant people’ about pregnant WOMEN, and then reprimands her when she rolls her eyes?! Pathetic.”

President Donald Trump unveiled a deal with U.K.-based drugmaker AstraZeneca on Friday under which the company will sell some medicines at a discount to the government&#8217;s Medicaid health plan in exchange for tariff relief, similar to a drug pricing pact reached last week with Pfizer.
The deals set a framework the White House will use to try to reach its goal of lowering U.S. prescription medicine prices. The president sent letters to 17 leading drugmakers in July telling them to slash prices. Pfizer and Astra are the first two companies to reach a deal with the administration.
AstraZeneca will also offer some of its drugs at up to 80% off their list price through the TrumpRx website planned for next year, CEO Pascal Soriot said at an event in the Oval Office.
He said the company will receive a three-year tariff exemption &#8220;to localize the remainder of our products.&#8221;
U.S. patients currently pay by far the most for prescription medicines, often nearly three times more than in other developed nations, and Trump has been pressuring drugmakers to lower their prices to what patients pay elsewhere or face stiff tariffs.
Last month, Trump threatened 100% tariffs, ratcheting up pressure on the pharmaceutical industry to agree to price cuts and shift manufacturing to the U.S., after negotiations broke down earlier this year, lobbyists and executives told Reuters following the Pfizer deal.
More than 70 million people are covered by Medicaid, the state and federal government program for low-income people. Drug spending in that program is dwarfed by that of Medicare, which covers people aged 65 and older or those with disabilities and is not included in Friday&#8217;s announcement.

Medicare&#8217;s drug spending reached $216 billion in 2021, while Medicaid&#8217;s gross spending was around $80 billion.
The Medicaid program already receives the lowest drug prices in the U.S., so the additional savings may be modest, said Craig Garthwaite, a professor at Northwestern University&#8217;s Kellogg School of Management.
&#8220;If you look at AstraZeneca&#8217;s portfolio, I don&#8217;t think there are a bunch of drugs that exist where that&#8217;s going to involve them giving a very big discount to Medicaid,&#8221; Garthwaite said.
AstraZeneca&#8217;s Pfizer‑like deal may spare it tariffs, but will not move the needle on U.S. rising health insurance premiums and out‑of‑pocket drug costs, said Rena Conti, an associate professor at Boston University.
&#8220;It&#8217;s good for the companies, and has very uncertain if any benefit for Americans struggling with the affordability of prescription drugs,&#8221; Conti said.
Soriot has worked to keep his company close to Washington while pursuing its growth strategy.
AstraZeneca in July announced it will invest $50 billion in U.S. manufacturing and research and development by 2030. It will build its biggest site worldwide in Virginia, and expand facilities in five other U.S. states.
In September, the company announced it will sell its diabetes and asthma drugs direct to cash-paying U.S. patients at a discount of up to 70% off list prices, another move in response to Trump&#8217;s pressure campaign.
Soriot this year has played up the company&#8217;s U.S. credentials. He described the Anglo-Swedish firm as a &#8220;very American company,&#8221; highlighting its identity shift toward its largest market. AstraZeneca will list its shares in the United States as well as its current markets in the UK and Europe.
