Former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-promises-to-prosecute-democrats-as-president-theyre-doing-it-to-us" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> advised <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tudor-dixon-wins-michigan-republican-gubernatorial-nomination-will-face-gretchen-whitmer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tudor Dixon,</a> the Republican nominee for Governor of Michigan in the 2022 election, to dial it back on abortion during her campaign, Dixon revealed on her podcast that aired Tuesday. 
Dixon, who ran unsuccessfully against Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer, had Trump on “<a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-tudor-dixon-podcast-an-exclusive-interview/id1678556326?i=1000626177277" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Tudor Dixon Podcast</a>” to discuss the 2024 race and how she came up short in 2022. Dixon, who is pro-life, took heat from the Left during her campaign for saying she did not believe in any exceptions for abortion. Dixon noted that Trump told her to be careful on the abortion issue as it gave Democrats momentum. 
“You came to me and you said, ‘You got to talk differently about abortion.’ And we could not pivot, we could not pivot in time,” Dixon told Trump during the interview. She added that Trump was “absolutely right” to give her the advice. 
“I hope that you are able to navigate that issue in ’24 and that we can win those women back because they are already putting out attack ads, and it is not a fair issue for them to attack on,” Dixon said. 
Trump told Dixon that he didn&#8217;t receive the same backlash that she did for his stance on abortion because he was careful with how he addressed the issue during his campaigns. “There’s a way of talking about it,” he said, adding that Democrats “are the radicals” on the issue. 
“Exceptions are very important. I think you need the exceptions. You and I talked about that,” Trump added.
Abortion played a pivotal role in the Democrats’ domination in Michigan elections in 2022 just months after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade. The issue was also directly on the ballot with Michigan voters choosing to make abortion a constitutional right. Whitmer won re-election with nearly 55% of the vote while Democrats also won the election for attorney general, gained control of the state legislature, and took multiple key U.S. House races.  
In a Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6335585300112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> last week, Dixon said the Left and the media jumped on her abortion stance early, which “absolutely” hurt her in the election. 
“No one really understood how important abortion would be in 2022 because no one had run in a post-Roe world,” Dixon said. “So we suddenly got viciously attacked by the Democrats, and it is a winning message for them.”

Dixon praised Nikki Haley for her answer on abortion during the first GOP presidential debate, arguing that Republicans need to take a state-by-state approach to the issue.  
Trump, currently in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/latest-presidential-polls-trailing-candidates-get-slight-post-debate-boost-trump-still-dominates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">command of the polls</a> for the GOP primary, has not said if he supports the 15-week federal ban on abortion that some Republican candidates have advocated for. The former president <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-abortion-evangelicals-supreme-court-3bf88968fcd6d7170abaa31ca3084fa8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the U.S. government has “a vital role” in opposing abortion and touted his crucial Supreme Court appointments, which ultimately led to the overturning of Roe.
“One of the reasons they wanted Roe v. Wade terminated,” he said, “is to bring it back into the states where a lot of people feel strongly the greatest progress for pro-life is now being made,” Trump said in June. “There of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life.”

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the re-elected governor addressed a room full of her enthusiastic supporters. &#8220;For the next four years, I ask you to believe in Michigan, to work with us and believe in our state. If we do, I know there is nothing we can’t accomplish,&#8221; Whitmer <a href="https://www.fox17online.com/news/election-2022/gretchen-whitmer-beats-tudor-dixon-will-serve-4-more-years-as-governor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;Holding this office has been the honor of my life, and I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity for the last four years.&#8221;
Dixon conceded the race in a phone call with Whitmer Wednesday morning. &#8220;Michigan’s future success rests not in elected officials or government, but all of us. It is incumbent upon all of us to help our children read, support law enforcement, and grow our economy,&#8221; the Republican said in a press release. &#8220;Thank you to our volunteers and supporters for working so hard to forge a better Michigan. We came up short, but we will never stop fighting for our families.&#8221;
Whitmer, 51, was heavily favored just a few months prior to the election, but a late Republican surge in polling along with voter distaste for Democrat policies on the economy and crime turned the race into a barn burner down the stretch. 
Dixon, a 45-year-old businesswoman, campaigned on reviving Michigan’s economy, fighting for children and parents in education, and reducing the state’s rising crime rate, while Whitmer focused heavily on protecting a right to abortion. After Roe v. Wade was overturned in June, a 1931 Michigan law was set to go into effect banning abortion in the state before the law was suspended by a Michigan judge. Whitmer often pointed to Dixon’s opposition to abortion as a reason she was too radical for Michigan voters.
Another big issue throughout the campaign was the Great Lakes State’s economy. Michigan businesses were hit hard following the onset of the COVID pandemic as the Whitmer administration enacted some of the harshest lockdown measures in the country. 
The Republican candidate made a habit of reminding voters of the governor’s policies during the pandemic, and how she would have governed differently. For months after the onset of the pandemic, the Whitmer administration continued to order businesses to limit the number of customers they could serve and required they enact social distancing and mask requirements. Other businesses, like theaters and bowling centers, had to shut their doors completely from mid-March 2020 through that summer. 
To help the state recover from COVID lockdowns, Dixon pushed for reducing income taxes and slashing regulations to help boost a floundering economy and lure businesses into a state that has seen thousands of jobs leave in the past few years. Whitmer promised voters she was working hard to “bring the supply chain home” after the state lost nearly 82,o00 jobs during her first term. 
The governor also sought to highlight her police spending in the weeks leading up to the election after she was criticized in 2020 for saying she supports “the spirit” of the defund the police movement. 
As Michigan struggles with rising crime rates in its cities, Dixon promised to support law enforcement and first responders. In September, Dixon unveiled a $1 billion plan aimed at recruiting and retaining local law enforcement officers. Her proposal would seek to hire over 5,000 local officers, 500 state troopers, 2,000 state and local corrections officers, and 5,000 fire and EMS personnel. 
Dixon was not shy on culture war issues such as abortion and sexual progressivism. She consistently reaffirmed that she supports Michigan’s 1931 law banning abortion with an exception only for the life of the mother. In June, Dixon also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michigan-gop-gubernatorial-candidate-tudor-dixon-ill-criminalize-involving-children-in-drag-shows">said</a> she would “sign a bill that creates severe criminal penalties for adults who involve children in drag shows.”

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer Hangs On Despite Late Republican Surge: Projection

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/michigan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan</a> Republican gubernatorial candidate <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tudor-dixon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tudor Dixon</a> has a razor-thin lead over incumbent Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a new poll shows.
The survey of 1,097 respondents, conducted by the Trafalgar Group from November 5-7, showed Dixon with a lead of 0.3 percentage points over Whitmer just hours before polls opened in the Wolverine State.
According to the <a href="https://www.thetrafalgargroup.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/MI-Gen-Poll-Report-1107.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a>, Dixon leads Whitmer 48.5% to 48.2%. Libertarian Mary Buzuma takes 0.6% of the vote, and other candidates take 0.7%. Another 2% of voters were still undecided. Notably, the poll appears to oversample Democrats.
Democrats made up a majority of poll respondents, 54.5%, while Republicans were just 37.1% of the sample; non-partisan affiliated voters made up the remaining 8.4%. But according to data from <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/religious-landscape-study/state/michigan/party-affiliation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pew Research</a>, 47% of voters in Michigan are Democrats or lean Democrat, while Republicans make up 34%, and 19% of voters have no partisan lean.
The Trafalgar Group, which rose to national prominence after being the only public pollster to correctly predict Donald Trump winning the state <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2020/06/22/pollster_who_got_it_right_in_2016_michigan_a_dead_heat__143512.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in 2016</a>, is one of just two public pollsters showing Dixon with a slight lead over Whitmer.
Another poll from <a href="https://amgreatness.com/2022/10/31/insider-advantage-michigan-poll-whitmer-and-dixon-tied-38-9-percent-favorable-rating-for-biden/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">InsiderAdvantage and American Greatness</a> in late October showed Dixon leading Whitmer, 44.8% to 44.6%, with 5.4% undecided.
Previous polls from both Trafalgar and InsiderAdvantage showed Whitmer holding onto a lead. Trafalgar&#8217;s mid-October poll with Michigan News Service had Whitmer <a href="https://www.thetrafalgargroup.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/MI-Gen-Gov-Poll-Report-1023.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leading 48.4% to 47.9%</a>; the previous poll from InsiderAdvantage/American Greatness showed Whitmer <a href="https://amgreatness.com/2022/10/13/insider-advantage-whitmer-and-dixon-tied-in-michigan-governors-race-joe-bidens-approval-down-to-37-percent/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leading 44.4% to 43.9%</a>.
Another poll from Mitchell/MIRS found a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dixon-whitmer-in-statistical-tie-new-poll-finds-michigan-race-going-down-to-the-wire" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statistical tie</a> between the incumbent Democrat and her Republican challenger; Whitmer led 49% to 47% over Dixon, well within the poll&#8217;s 4.2% margin of error, with 3% of respondents undecided.
Dixon has been steadily gaining momentum, with the support of national leaders in the Republican Party. Former President Trump endorsed her during the primary; she has also picked up endorsements from former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and her husband, businessman Dick DeVos; Republican Governors Doug Ducey of Arizona, Kristi Noem of South Dakota, and Glenn Youngkin of Virginia; Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene; Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake; Donald Trump Jr.; and former Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party last month. The <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2022/governor/mi/michigan_governor_dixon_vs_whitmer-7545.html#polls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RealClearPolitics</a> average of polls currently shows Whitmer with a 1-point lead over Dixon. However, RCP projects Dixon to flip the Governor&#8217;s race on Tuesday, citing polling errors favoring Democrats by an average of 2.2 points between 2016 and 2020.

Megyn Kelly interviewed Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon on Monday and asked her thoughts about Stephen Colbert&#8217;s &#8220;apology&#8221; after he mocked a Democratic supporter of hers.
During the Sirius XM &#8220;The Megyn Kelly Show&#8221; <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly0bCvR_P2A">podcast</a>, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/megyn-kelly">host</a> asked <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/this-is-the-deplorables-moment-it-will-be-a-shock-come-tuesday-tudor-dixon-bashes-the-view">Dixon</a> about what Kelly called Colbert&#8217;s snarky &#8220;apology&#8221; and asked what her message to Colbert might be. The late-night host used one of Dixon&#8217;s supporters during his recent monologue, mocking how the man, Khalil Othman, said he was a Democrat who was leaving the party for the Republicans after discovering sexual content in his kid&#8217;s school library.
Colbert later issued an &#8220;apology&#8221; to the man after he was called out by Michigan&#8217;s largest newspaper, <a href="https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/wayne/2022/11/02/stephen-colbert-dearborn-man-dearborn/69608126007/">Detroit Free Press</a>, which rebutted the host over his false attack against Dixon — he claimed that Othman was &#8220;totally made up,&#8221; as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michigans-largest-newspaper-rebuts-stephen-colbert-over-false-attack-on-gop-gov-candidate-tudor-dixon">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported.
&#8220;You are not understanding the people of the country,&#8221; Dixon told Kelly. &#8220;You&#8217;re not understanding the heartbeat of America right now, and that is to make sure that our kids are protected, that they have a future and that they have safe communities.&#8221;

During &#8220;The Late Show with Stephen Colbert&#8221; on Thursday, the host said, &#8220;This very real person deserves an apology because he says, &#8216;To claim that I&#8217;m not here, I don&#8217;t exist, I&#8217;m not human, that&#8217;s absolute ignorance,'&#8221; <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/stephen-colbert-walks-back-tudor-dixon-swipe-ridicules-michigan-voter-referred">Fox News</a> noted. &#8220;So I would like to apologize. It is a terrible thing for someone to deny your very existence. Just ask trans people. Therefore, I, Stephen Colbert, acknowledge that you exist and ask that you forgive me.&#8221;
Colbert then shared a part of what Othman had told the <a href="https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/wayne/2022/11/02/stephen-colbert-dearborn-man-dearborn/69608126007/">Detroit Free Press</a> that read, &#8220;If this person did his due diligence and start researching or has his team do a little bit of research of who&#8217;s this person who attended Dixon&#8217;s rally, they will be able to find my name right away easy on social media. Just Google it.&#8221;
The late-night host then took a swipe at the Michigan voter, when he said, &#8220;OK, fair enough. But I will point out that Dixon never said your name. So what am I supposed to search for? All she said was I had a gentleman come up to me, and he said I found content in my school library describing how to have sex to my son.&#8221;
He said Othman &#8220;claimed to be a Democratic politician but switched after he lost his primary and packed up his toys and went off in a huff to support&#8221; Dixon.

Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon, on the verge of possibly pulling off one of the great upsets in recent political history as she tries to unseat incumbent Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer, took sharp aim at a caustic comment from “The View” host Sunny Hostin targeting suburban white women voters who voted for the GOP.
“I read a poll just yesterday that white Republican suburban women are now going to vote Republican,” Hostin declared. “It’s almost like roaches voting for Raid.”
“This is the deplorables moment of 2016,” Dixon told Fox News host Dan Bongino, referring to 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton calling Trump voters “deplorables.” She continued, “And that will drive more people to the polls. They won’t talk about it. It will be a shock come Tuesday.”
Prior to that discussion, Bongino asked Dixon about the supposed apology late-night host Stephen Colbert offered after <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/michigans-largest-newspaper-rebuts-stephen-colbert-over-false-attack-on-gop-gov-candidate-tudor-dixon/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">falsely accusing Dixon</a> of lying when she told a story about a constituent who had told her “just a few weeks ago, not only was I a Democrat, but I was running for office as a Democrat,” and that because Democrats wouldn’t stand up for children he was leaving the Democratic Party.
Colbert’s claim was debunked by the Detroit Free Press, Michigan&#8217;s largest newspaper, which spoke to the man, whose name is Khalil Othman. Othman <a href="https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/wayne/2022/11/02/stephen-colbert-dearborn-man-dearborn/69608126007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the paper that Dixon’s story was true.
After the story was confirmed, Colbert’s apology sounded hollow. He began by stating, “Here’s the thing, I don’t make many mistakes that I’m willing to admit. But when I do, I’m big enough to admit them.”
But then he segued, “It is a terrible thing for someone to deny your very existence. Just ask trans people. Therefore, I, Stephen Colbert, acknowledge that you exist and ask that you forgive me.” Then he <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/11/04/stephen-colbert-apologizes-for-saying-man-who-switched-to-gop-was-made-up/">mocked Othman</a> for suggesting Colbert should have done a more thorough search before attacking the story as false.
“What’s your reaction to this clown Colbert and his so-called fake apology,” Bongino asked Dixon. “That didn’t seem genuine at all.”
“Obviously, it’s not genuine but I actually kind of love it because it’s exactly how they are treating the people of this country right now,” Dixon replied. “Democrat elitists are coming out and saying, ‘Your concerns are not real. These are not problems. We are concerned with only our woke agenda.’”
“And that’s exactly what Khalil was trying to say,” she continued. “He came out and said, ‘I want our kids to be able to go to school, go back to the basics.’ It’s what we’ve been talking about in Michigan. Getting back to reading, writing, and math. And they have just been written off, the concerns of parents have just been written off. I think it’s fantastic to see that now they are openly saying that these people don’t exist. They are openly saying that the concerns of the American people don’t matter because, listen, we are saying, ‘We hear you. We are going to take care of this. We are going to make that our kids are educated. That they are learning how to read and we’re getting the woke stuff out of our schools.’”
After noting that Whitmer had radically outspent Dixon in the race, Bongino noted polls showing Republican suburban white women moving in droves to the GOP, adding, “They’re parents, too. They’re tired of being ignored.”
Dixon spoke of the suburban moms who were saying, “Our kids got locked out of school. Our kids missed all of their sports; they missed their milestone moments of prom, of graduation, now they’re behind.”
“They know I’m a mom of four kids,” she asserted. “They know I’m passionate about this. They also know that I come from the manufacturing sector, that I worked in a steel foundry for most of my life and I’m going to bring their small businesses back as well. They understand that Gretchen Whitmer’s administration has gone after business so we’re looking at both of the issues. We’re looking at the economic issues in the state of Michigan and also the education issues in the state of Michigan. I know how to bring Michigan back and those suburban moms are realizing that I am there for them 100%.”
