After the legacy media spent much of Monday condemning comedian Tony Hinchcliffe&#8217;s performance at the Madison Square Garden Trump rally, &#8220;The Daily Show&#8221; host Jon Stewart defended Hinchcliffe, saying he was just &#8220;doing what he does.&#8221;
Hinchcliffe fired off numerous roasts on Sunday night, including calling Puerto Rico &#8220;a floating island of garbage.&#8221; The comedian&#8217;s comment about Puerto Rico was criticized by people on <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/peter-navarro-mike-lawler-tony-hinchcliffe-inappropriate-trump-1976266" target="_blank" rel="noopener">both sides</a> of the aisle, and political commentators on CNN and MSNBC called it &#8220;racist.&#8221;
“There’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now,” said Hinchcliffe. “I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”
Stewart played a clip of Hinchcliffe roasting celebrities and athletes at Netflix&#8217;s Tom Brady roast earlier this year, which included jokes that many would consider far more controversial than his quip about Puerto Rico. While Stewart criticized the Trump campaign&#8217;s decision to feature a &#8220;roast comedian&#8221; at a campaign rally almost a week before the election, he said that he finds Hinchcliffe &#8220;very funny.&#8221;
&#8220;Obviously, in retrospect, having a roast comedian come to a political rally a week before election day and roasting a key voting demographic – probably not the best decision by the campaign politically,&#8221; Stewart said. &#8220;But to be fair, the guy is really just doing what he does.&#8221;
&#8220;I mean, bringing him to a rally and have him not do roast jokes, that would be like bringing Beyoncé to a rally and not &#8230; oh,&#8221; he added, referring to the outrage over the Kamala Harris campaign inviting Beyoncé to its campaign rally in Houston last week but not having her perform.

After the rally at Madison Square Garden, the Trump campaign distanced itself from Hinchcliffe&#8217;s Puerto Rico comment, saying in a statement, “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”
Former White House official Peter Navarro, a Trump backer, blasted Hinchcliffe&#8217;s joke, calling it &#8220;double stupid.&#8221;

Hinchcliffe was also condemned by Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz and far-Left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). Trump paid for his popcorn, handing the cashier his money and saying, &#8220;Take the rest of it.&#8221; He then turned to the register behind him, where another customer was checking out with her groceries, and tossed a bill onto the conveyor belt in front of her.
&#8220;Here, it&#8217;s going to go down a little bit,&#8221; he said of her grocery bill. She smiled and picked up the bill, and Trump added, &#8220;It just went down a hundred bucks.&#8221;

The Trump campaign announced Wednesday that it had raised $130 million in August, leaving it just shy of $300 million total cash on hand as the presidential race enters its final months.
About 98% of the donations were less than $200, with an average gift of $56, the Trump campaign <a href="https://www.donaldjtrump.com/news/9699f632-95bc-4750-bb78-33639c0b7191" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. The August total <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-fundraising-campaign-august-c85ae4d85bd7557c787642dad2fd32a2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was about</a> $8 million less than the $138.7 fundraising total for July, when the former president was nearly assassinated. Trump’s campaign now says it has $295 million cash on hand, a decline from the $327 million at the beginning of August. 
“With Republicans united and a growing number of Independents and disaffected Democrats crossing partisan lines, the Trump-Vance campaign has momentum for the final stretch of the race,” senior Trump campaign adviser Brian Hughes said. “These fundraising numbers from August are a reflection of that movement and will propel President Trump’s America First movement back to the White House so we can undo the terrible failures of Harris and Biden.”
In June, the Trump campaign wiped out President Joe Biden’s cash advantage before Biden dropped out of the race. Since then, Vice President Kamala Harris replaced Biden on July 21 and says she has raised $540 million.

Both candidates have focused on crucial swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, where polls show a close race. Those states also have critical Senate races, which Democrats are looking to hold onto their slim majority. 
Republican leadership, which believes the races are winnable, says that they are currently being outspent and out-raised in those battleground races. 
“The only thing preventing us from having a great night in November is the massive financial disparity our party currently faces,” National Republican Senatorial Committee executive director Jason Thielman previously <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2024/09/05/trump-campaign-raised-well-over-100-million-august/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “We are on a trajectory to win the majority, but unless something changes drastically in the next six weeks, we will lose winnable seats.”
Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), head of the NRSC, <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/campaigns/congressional/3141633/republicans-financial-disparity-could-cost-winnable-seats/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at the Republican National Convention in July that he was being kept up at night because &#8220;left-wing billionaires are massively outspending us.”

The Harris campaign is pushing for a major rule change to the September 10 ABC debate against Donald Trump, requesting that both candidates&#8217; microphones stay on for the entirety of the night.
When Trump agreed to two debates against President Joe Biden, both campaigns approved of rules that would mute the microphone of the candidate who was not speaking. Political commentators generally agreed that the muted mics helped Trump during the June 27 CNN debate against Biden, and now, the Harris campaign wants both the vice presidential candidates&#8217; and Trump&#8217;s microphones to stay hot during the upcoming debate on ABC.
“We have told ABC and other networks seeking to host a possible October debate that we believe both candidates’ mics should be live throughout the full broadcast,” Brian Fallon, senior communications adviser for Harris campaign, told <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/08/26/kamala-harris-donald-trump-debate-abc-microphones-00176294" target="_blank" rel="noopener">POLITICO</a>. “Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own. We suspect Trump’s team has not even told their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they don’t think he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the benefit of a mute button.”
POLITICO reported that Harris&#8217; team wants to keep Trump&#8217;s mic on when the Democratic nominee is speaking because they believe he could interrupt her and say something that will potentially hurt him in the eyes of voters. Trump&#8217;s team says the rules should stay the same as those previously agreed upon between the Trump and Biden campaigns. Trump senior adviser Jason Miller told POLITICO that the new request from the Harris campaign is all political &#8220;games,&#8221; adding that it seems Harris is &#8220;looking for a way to get out of any debate with President Trump.&#8221;

“Enough with the games. We accepted the ABC debate under the exact same terms as the CNN debate. The Harris camp, after having already agreed to the CNN rules, asked for a seated debate, with notes, and opening statements. We said no changes to the agreed upon rules,” Miller said. “If Kamala Harris isn’t smart enough to repeat the messaging points her handlers want her to memorize, that’s their problem. This seems to be a pattern for the Harris campaign. They won’t allow Harris to do interviews, they won’t allow her to do press conferences, and now they want to give her a cheat-sheet for the debate. My guess is that they’re looking for a way to get out of any debate with President Trump.”
Harris mocked Trump last month for not immediately agreeing to debate her on September 10 after Biden dropped out and she became the Democrats&#8217; de facto nominee. Trump then announced that he would debate Harris on ABC on September 10, pushing her to agree to two other debates — one on Fox News on September 4 and another on NBC on September 25. Harris did not agree to the Fox News or NBC debate proposals.

The super PAC, Make America Great Again Inc., announced the sticker initiative on Tuesday, telling supporters on a new website to &#8220;join the no tip tax campaign today&#8221; and &#8220;get your stickers free.&#8221;

Trump first called for ending taxes on tips at a Nevada rally earlier this month, saying that “people that get tips” are “going to be very happy, because when I get to office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips.”
Nevada has a large number of workers who receive tips, largely due to the recreation and tourism industries in the Las Vegas area.
Trump repeated his promise to the crowd at Turning Point Action&#8217;s convention in Michigan earlier this month.

&#8220;The effort was inspired by the countless people that have been sharing images of them writing on receipts,&#8221; the super PAC said in an emailed press release.
Earlier this month, singer Kid Rock shared a photo of a receipt showing he had tipped $400 on a $1,143 bill at a steakhouse. On the receipt he had written, &#8220;A vote for Trump is a vote for no tax on tips!!&#8221;
Many other social media users shared photos of their receipts with similar messages as well.
On Saturday, Trump himself hopped on the trend when he stopped by a Philadelphia cheesesteak restaurant and left a $500 tip, writing &#8220;no tax on tip&#8221; on the receipt.
“It’s simple: President Trump wants hardworking American to keep more money in their pocket, Joe Biden wants to take it to give to illegal immigrants. President Trump’s plan is brilliant, and our sticker campaign will make sure it’s known far and wide,” said Taylor Budowich, CEO of Make America Great Again Inc.

Donations flooded into Donald Trump&#8217;s campaign fundraising site on Thursday as the Trump campaign said it received nearly $35 million in small donations within the first few hours after a Manhattan jury handed down a guilty verdict in his hush-money trial.
The Trump campaign released a <a href="https://x.com/AlexThomp/status/1796542128006316323" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> Friday morning, announcing a &#8220;record shattering fundraising haul following the sham Biden Trial verdict totaling $34.8 million,&#8221; which was &#8220;nearly double the biggest day ever recorded for the Trump campaign on the WinRed platform.&#8221; Team Trump added that a staggering 30% of Thursday&#8217;s donations came from &#8220;brand new donors to the WinRed platform,&#8221; the GOP fundraising website used by the Trump campaign and other Republicans. Small donations are considered to be between $1 and $200.
WinRed even <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-campaign-confirms-fundraising-website-crash-after-verdict-tells-supporters-keep-trying" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crashed</a> on Thursday as people tried to log on to donate, according to the campaign.
&#8220;From just minutes after the sham trial verdict was announced, our digital fundraising system was overwhelmed with support, and despite temporary delays online because of the amount of traffic, President Trump raised $34.8 million dollars from small dollar donors,&#8221; Trump campaign senior advisors Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said in a statement.

Trump was found guilty of all 34 counts brought against him by Manhattan Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The former president has slammed the trial as a political &#8220;witch hunt&#8221; and &#8220;election interference.&#8221; Trump was convicted of falsifying business records related to hush-money payments sent to porn actress Stormy Daniels to cover up an alleged affair. The former president has denied that the affair ever took place and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

As of the end of April, Team Biden said it had $192 million cash on hand, which was around the same amount the Democrat&#8217;s campaign said it had at the end of March, which shows the campaign is likely spending its money quickly, according to ABC News.
While the fundraising numbers from Trump and the RNC improved from March to April, Biden and the Democrats reported a significantly lower haul last month than the over $90 million the campaign received in March. Team Biden&#8217;s March numbers were helped by an event with former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, which raised $25 million for Biden.

Despite criticizing former President Donald Trump for using campaign donations to help pay his massive legal bills, Democrats also used campaign funds to help President Joe Biden pay lawyers during the special counsel probe into his handling of classified documents, according to Axios.
The outlet <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/04/12/dnc-covered-biden-legal-bills-special-counsel-probe" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Friday that between July 2023 and February 2024, the Democratic National Committee paid over $1.5 million to lawyers or firms that represented Biden during the classified documents probe, according to the DNC’s financial filings. In recent days, the Biden campaign has slammed Trump for spending campaign donations on legal fees while claiming that “every single dime” given to the Biden-Harris campaign is spent on “talking to voters.”
“Every single dime that you give to the Biden-Harris re-election campaign we spend talking to voters,” Biden Campaign Finance Chair Rufus Gifford told MSNBC last weekend.
“What is [Trump] doing? He might put up some money tonight with his billionaire friends in a closed-door fundraiser in Palm Beach. We understand that,” Gifford continued, adding. “We are not spending money on legal bills. We are not hawking gold sneakers or any of that stuff. The money that we are raising, we are going straight to talking to voters.”

As it turns out, Democrats have also spent a significant amount of money covering the president during his own legal challenges. From July of last year through February 2024, the DNC paid just over $1 million to Bob Bauer PLLC, the professional limited liability company of Biden’s top Lawyer Bob Bauer. Additionally, beginning in July 2023, the DNC increased monthly payments to the Hemenway &amp; Barnes law firm from $15,000 a month to $100,000 a month during special counsel Robert Hur’s probe into Biden.
The DNC did not reveal exactly how much it had spent on legal fees for Biden during Hur’s investigation, which ultimately resulted in no charges. Hur <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/special-counsel-biden-has-significantly-limited-memory-didnt-remember-when-he-was-vp-or-when-son-died" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> that Biden “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials,” but did not suggest bringing any charges, in part, because a jury would view Biden as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
The Republican National Committee paid around $1.6 million to cover some of Trump’s legal fees in 2021 that stemmed from the civil business fraud case. At the time, a DNC spokeswoman <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/16/us/politics/rnc-trump-investigations.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times, “If we were the RNC’s donors, we would certainly be asking questions.”
Biden’s legal fees pale in comparison to Trump’s $100 million in legal bills, not including the $175 million bond he recently posted in his New York civil business fraud case. While the impressive haul still falls short of the Biden campaign and Democratic National Committee (DNC), it is a welcome sign for Trump&#8217;s team as the presumed Republican nominee campaigns around the country, preparing for a rematch against President Joe Biden. Trump&#8217;s $65 million haul last month is more than the amount his campaign received in March 2020 when he posted $62 million.
The Biden campaign has yet to report its fundraising numbers for March, but at the end of February, the president, along with the DNC, ended with around $155 million on hand after both Team Biden and the DNC raised $53 million in the month. Biden&#8217;s team also reported raising $25 million from a single event last week featuring former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
Meanwhile, Trump is set to start April with a major fundraising event at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday, where his aides expect the campaign to pull in more than $40 million, POLITICO reported. Trump&#8217;s 2024 war chest and fundraising effort have been hampered by his numerous legal battles, which require him to pay millions of dollars in legal fees, amounts some political action committees are helping cover when their funds would usually be used to boost Trump&#8217;s candidacy.

According to a report filed on Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission, the Biden campaign ended February with $71 million cash on hand, which, combined with the Democratic National Committee, puts the president’s war chest at $97.5 million, POLITICO <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/20/biden-fundraising-advantage-trump-00148214" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Biden now has double the combined money of the Trump campaign and the RNC, which has $44.8 million on hand.

Trump has come up with nicknames for nearly all of his Republican and Democratic opponents in each of his three political campaigns, such as &#8220;Lyin&#8217; Ted&#8221; for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), &#8220;Crooked Hillary&#8221; for his 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton, and &#8220;Sleepy Joe&#8221; for Biden. The Biden campaign&#8217;s email also copies a talking point from Trump&#8217;s 2020 re-election campaign when the former president repeatedly called out Biden for running a &#8220;basement campaign.&#8221;
Despite Trump making nicknames a common routine for his campaign rallies and speeches, some political strategists don&#8217;t think the strategy is a good move for the Biden campaign to take. One Democratic strategist told <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4550498-biden-campaign-tests-trumps-name-calling-strategy-with-broke-don/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill</a> that &#8220;mimicking Trump has been done before and has never really worked.”
“You can’t out-Trump Trump because he’s the original version. I would say they need to be more creative in producing their own original and unique strategy to bring him down a peg that shocks and awes,” the strategist said.
Bruce Mehlman, who worked in the George W. Bush administration, quoted a warning from George Bernard Shaw when asked about the Biden campaign&#8217;s new strategy.

The Biden team mocked Trump&#8217;s financial situation as the former president faces mounting legal fees from his numerous civil and criminal cases, along with a $454 million judgment in the New York civil business fraud trial against him.

Some of the Biden campaign’s biggest donors so far for the 2024 cycle <a href="https://data.usatoday.com/2024-presidential-candidates-top-contributors/?ref=biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">include</a> tech firms, labor unions, and leftist super PACs such as Democracy PAC II, which is supported by billionaire George Soros. Much of the Trump campaign’s donations have come from organizations such as McMahon Ventures, an LLC owned by the WWE’s Linda McMahon; Hendricks Holding Co, which was founded by conservative multibillionaire Diane Hendricks; and Crownquest Operating, an oil drilling company founded by GOP megadonor Tim Dunn.
Faced with civil and criminal cases on multiple fronts, Trump’s fundraising haul for his 2024 campaign is falling short of the numbers he posted in 2020, and millions of dollars have been spent by Trump-supporting PACs to help cover his legal costs. The former president and his organization also face a $464 million fine following the judgment in his New York civil business fraud case. Trump said earlier this week that he could be forced to sell his properties to secure bond for the massive fine.
