Former Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/trey-gowdy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trey Gowdy</a> (R-SC) slammed the highly controversial verdict against former President Donald Trump this week by saying it was the only time that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has ever been excited to prosecute someone &#8212; a reference to his soft-on-crime policies.
The verdict was the culmination of a weeks-long courtroom battle in which Trump said that he was the target of a “political persecution” — a point that was seemingly validated when President Joe Biden sent his re-campaign to hold a political event outside the courthouse this week. The former president was found guilty on all 34 charges brought in the hush-money trial.
“The best revenge is success. If you want a justice system that doesn’t elect a District Attorney who promises to go after a political opponent, then you need to win at the ballot box,&#8221; Gowdy said. &#8220;Alvin Bragg, name me another crime that he’s gotten really, really excited about. It’s not shoplifting, it’s not stealing, it’s not hitting people on the street, it is alleged hush-money to keep someone quiet about a sexual encounter. That’s what really gets his attention.&#8221;

Even CNN’s top legal expert Elie Honig <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-cnn-legal-expert-shreds-manhattan-trump-case-was-created-just-to-get-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dismantled</a> the case this week following the verdict, saying that just because the jury convicted Trump on all 34 felony counts does, it not mean that justice was carried out because the case should have never been brought.
“Both of these things can be true at once: The jury did its job, and this case was an ill-conceived, unjustified mess,” he said. “Sure, victory is the great deodorant, but a guilty verdict doesn’t make it all pure and right. Plenty of prosecutors have won plenty of convictions in cases that shouldn’t have been brought in the first place. ‘But they won’ is no defense to a strained, convoluted reach unless the goal is to ‘win,’ now, by any means necessary and worry about the credibility of the case and the fallout later.”

In his lengthy piece, Honig noted that the judge in the case broke the law by having donated to a pro-Biden and overtly anti-Trump political operation, the district attorney who brought the case campaigned on getting Trump, the case pushed the outer limits of the law and due process, and numerous aspects of the case were crafted in a special manner just to get Trump.
“The charges against Trump are obscure, and nearly entirely unprecedented,” he said. “In fact, no state prosecutor — in New York, or Wyoming, or anywhere — has ever charged federal election laws as a direct or predicate state crime, against anyone, for anything. None. Ever. Even putting aside the specifics of election law, the Manhattan DA itself almost never brings any case in which falsification of business records is the only charge.”

Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe reacted to Twitter&#8217;s release of internal company documents late last week by saying that one of the key players in the social media company&#8217;s decision to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story in 2020 is &#8220;the Michael Phelps of gold medal winning performances when it comes to election interference.&#8221;
Ratcliffe made the remarks during an interview on Fox News Sunday night with Trey Gowdy.
Musk released internal company communications through journalist Matt Taibbi about the company’s censorship of the story and about how the company removed tweets at the behest of the Democratic Party, a decision that he made because he said it was “necessary to restore public trust” in the platform.

And unfortunately, what we are seeing through what&#8217;s happened with Elon Musk and the Twitter files, is that the truth about this issue was suppressed and lies were amplified and lies in the form of election interference from the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, who said this was Russian disinformation and coordinated with former intelligence officials to amplify that lie through social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.&#8221;
When asked about a Twitter employee James Baker&#8217;s role in all of this and whether it was the same James Baker who was at the FBI, Ratcliffe confirmed that it was the same person.
&#8220;So, the same James Baker that, to remind your viewers was general counsel for Jim Comey at the FBI, who helped write an exoneration memo for Hillary Clinton before she was ever interviewed by the FBI for having hundreds of classified emails on her server, that same James Baker then met with the Clinton campaign officials to hand carry evidence, supposed evidence about Russian collusion, the Steele dossier, the Alpha bank connections with the Trump campaign into the FBI and the Department of Justice to launch an investigation that went on for years,&#8221; Ratcliffe said. &#8220;That&#8217;s the same James Baker that ultimately at Twitter said statements from the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the Director of National Intelligence that say this is not Russian disinformation, apparently aren&#8217;t clear enough, and we need to suppress this.&#8221;
&#8220;So yeah, I think these Twitter files are revealing that you know, James Baker is the the Michael Phelps of gold medal winning performances when it comes to election interference,&#8221; he added.

JOHN RATCLIFFE, FORMER DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE: Well, I would say, Trey, that we should be most concerned about the Biden foreign policy approach to our nation&#8217;s number one adversary. Look, you&#8217;ve mentioned the op-ed that I wrote two years ago, if anything, I underestimated the level and timing of China&#8217;s aggression. I mean, look, just four months ago, we had the Chinese Communist Party state-run media advocating to shoot down the plane carrying the Speaker of the House and members of Congress if they dared land on the island of Taiwan more than more than 100 miles from China&#8217;s border. You know, China views us as an enemy or an adversary and, you know, the the current administration keeps referring to China as a competitor. And you know, until we start to take this seriously and project strength, you know, the threat of China is going to continue to get greater as time goes by.

According to a <a href="https://radaronline.com/p/chris-wallace-cnn-show-premiere-bombs-ratings-jeff-zucker/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from RadarOnline, Wallace&#8217;s much-touted interview show — titled &#8220;Who&#8217;s Talking to Chris Wallace?&#8221; — racked up only 43,800 viewers in the key 25-54 age demographic. Wallace scored just 401,000 total viewers during his show, which aired in the 7 p.m. ET hour.
In comparison, the former South Carolina Congressman hosted &#8220;Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy&#8221; — and pulled in more than triple Wallace&#8217;s total viewers with over 1.3 million. He also nearly doubled Wallace&#8217;s number in the key demographic, racking up 78,000 viewers aged 25-54.

Critics were quick to pile on Wallace — who abruptly left &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; in December of 2021 — suggesting that perhaps he was beginning to wish that he had stayed put.

Wallace initially said when he <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/i-want-to-try-something-new-chris-wallace-is-leaving-fox-news-sunday-effective-immediately/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">left the network</a>, he was just looking for a change.
&#8220;After 18 years, I have decided to leave FOX. I want to try something new, to go beyond politics, to all of the things I’m interested in,&#8221; he explained during his final &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; broadcast. &#8220;I’m ready for a new adventure, and I hope you’ll check it out. And so, for the last time dear friends, that’s it for today.&#8221;
Wallace <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/unsustainable-chris-wallace-reveals-why-he-had-to-leave-fox-news/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">later claimed</a> that he had found the situation at FOX — particularly in the wake of January 6th — to be &#8220;unsustainable.&#8221;
&#8220;I’m fine with opinion: conservative opinion, liberal opinion,” Wallace said. “But when people start to question the truth — Who won the 2020 election? Was Jan. 6 an insurrection? — I found that unsustainable. I spent a lot of 2021 looking to see if there was a different place for me to do my job,&#8221; he said.

Fox News host and former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy blasted &#8220;The View&#8221; co-host Whoopi Goldberg for the insensitive comments she made about the Holocaust and her repeated failed attempts to walk them back.
Appearing as a panelist on Fox&#8217;s <a href="https://video.foxnews.com/v/6294817643001#sp=show-clips">&#8220;Outnumbered&#8221;</a> Tuesday afternoon, Gowdy ripped <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sparks-fly-on-the-view-after-whoopi-goldberg-claims-the-holocaust-was-not-about-race">Goldberg</a> for saying &#8220;the Holocaust [wasn’t] about race&#8221; during Monday&#8217;s episode of &#8220;The View,&#8221; then <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/whoopi-doubles-down-on-holocaust-remarks-despite-apology-they-had-issues-with-ethnicity-not-with-race">walking back her comments</a> with a non-apology on &#8220;The Late Show&#8221; with Stephen Colbert Monday night, then <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-misspoke-whoopi-goldberg-backtracks-again-on-holocaust-remarks">apologizing again</a> on &#8220;The View&#8221; Tuesday morning.
&#8220;You know, I have a couple of pretty simple rules in life,&#8221; Gowdy said. &#8220;Don&#8217;t ever compare anything to slavery, don&#8217;t ever compare anything to the Holocaust, and if you&#8217;re a man, don&#8217;t compare anything to pregnancy. That&#8217;s rule number one. Rule number two: if you&#8217;re going to apologize, then just apologize. Don&#8217;t explain it, don&#8217;t try to mitigate it, apologize and ask for forgiveness. And number three, as a culture, we have got to do a better job of figuring out who is just famous and who actually knows what he or she is talking about, &#8217;cause sometimes we confuse the two.&#8221;
Co-host Harris Faulkner reacted audibly. &#8220;Wow, wow, who got hit by that dropped mic?&#8221; Faulkner said.
Shortly afterward, the host played clips of Goldberg defending rapper Jay-Z in 2014, saying he should have been allowed to hit back at sister-in-law Solange Knowles during a fight in an elevator at the time. Gowdy blasted those comments as well. &#8220;She and I were raised in different homes,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I grew up with three sisters. I would not be here with you today if I had ever raised a hand towards one of my three sisters, and my dad didn&#8217;t care what they did to me. So it&#8217;s not just chivalry, it&#8217;s biology. Men don&#8217;t hit women, and it doesn&#8217;t matter what the woman has done to you.&#8221;
&#8220;I actually like Whoopi,&#8221; Gowdy added. &#8220;She was the nicest person to me on &#8216;The View&#8217; when I went on, which ain&#8217;t saying that much, but she was nice. But &#8230; those were two of the darkest chapters in the history of mankind, the Holocaust and slavery &#8230; so, Whoopi, act, but don&#8217;t weigh in on the Holocaust or slavery, or domestic violence. Just give all three of those a pass.&#8221;

On Sunday night, in the wake of the Waukesha murder of six people at a Christmas parade, Fox News host Trey Gowdy blistered the leftist DA’s and prosecutors who have made it easier for criminals to post bail and be released, snapping, “We don’t need prosecutors to react after there are six bodies laying on a parade route; we need prosecutors and politicians who prioritize public safety beforehand. And there are still those on the Left calling for lower bonds,” adding, “If you think $1,000 was the right bond amount for a career offender who ran over someone in early November so he could be out of jail in time to run over dozens of people at a Christmas parade, then say so. Just make sure you say it loud enough where we can all hear you.”
Gowdy began, “No matter how old we are, no matter how old we get, we remember the excitement of seeing Sant Claus as a child. And because we remember, we do everything in our power to make sure that magic is preserved for the children of today. We hold them on our shoulders so they can get a better view; we stand in the cold; we march in bands or dance in parades because we want children to experience the same joy we experienced as a child. “
“It&#8217;s timeless; it’s a generational connection; it’s a gift the old give the young,” he noted. “Waiting along the parade route with the cold wind whipping because Santa Claus is coming. And then the question comes: Is that him? Is that Santa Claus? Is he finally coming?”
Then he turned to the murders in Waukesha, Wisconsin:
<blockquote>Last Sunday night in Wisconsin it wasn’t Santa Claus coming down the parade route. He doesn’t drive that fast and he isn’t a career criminal out on bond. It was [the suspect], a lifelong criminal who’s been hurting people for most of his life. [The suspect] was on the sex offender registry, out on bond again, running over parents and grandparents and children.</blockquote>
“This night of joy in Wisconsin ended with agonizing grief, and then the grief quickly turned to anger because [the suspect] never should have been driving last Sunday night,” Gowdy said with genuine anger. “He should have been in jail. Days before you and I learned he ran over people at a Christmas parade, prosecutors in Wisconsin already knew he had run over someone with his car. Prosecutors knew that he had a lifetime of violence and bail-jumping and disregarding the law, but Wisconsin prosecutors recommended a $1,000 bond. $1,000 is all the security these prosecutors needed to let [the suspect] back out on the street. “
“And now, six body bags later, prosecutors finally concede that bond was too low,” he said, then snapped, “We already know that. $1,000 was too low when you set it. Now, after six people are dead, and dozens more injured, you set the bond at $5 million. So what’s different now? He was a career criminal before he killed six people at a Christmas parade. We don’t need prosecutors to react after there are six bodies laying on a parade route; we need prosecutors and politicians who prioritize public safety beforehand.”
“And there are still those on the Left calling for lower bonds,” he continued. “There&#8217;s always been a battle, a division if you will, in this country between people of good conscience and the small segment like [the suspect] who can’t ever seem to follow the law. What’s different now is there are politicians openly siding with the criminal element. They can&#8217;t ever bring themselves to talk about the victims of crime, only the perpetrators of crime.”
He challenged, “If you think $1,000 was the right bond amount for a career offender who ran over someone in early November so he could be out of jail in time to run over dozens of people at a Christmas parade, then say so. Just make sure you say it loud enough where we can all hear you.”

Several Fox News hosts mocked a recent New York Times op-ed detailing possible precautions families could take as they gathered for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Former White House press secretary <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/kayleigh-mcenany-lands-co-host-position-at-fox-news/">Kayleigh McEnany</a> — along with co-host Emily Compagno and Julie Banderas — ridiculed suggestions such as keeping young children away from older adults during meals and asking children to eat fast and wear a mask in the house before and after eating.
McEnany read a section of the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/17/opinion/covid-thanksgiving-holiday-risk.html">article</a> aloud during the broadcast, noting that it was formatted as a series of reader questions followed by answers from &#8220;experts.&#8221;
The first question she read was from a reader who was concerned about hosting a gathering where not all of the kids present would be fully vaccinated — although the adults were and some of the kids had been given their first doses prior to the meal.
The answer, according to Virginia Tech engineering professor Linsey Marr:
<blockquote>As the kids will not be fully vaccinated until two weeks after their second shot, I think some care is warranted, especially because some attendees are 65 and older and thus at greater risk of more serious breakthrough infections. You could have the kids wear masks, eat quickly and stay away from the older adults when eating.</blockquote>
Banderas&#8217; reaction was immediate. &#8220;Oh, my God,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;This is pure idiocy,&#8221; McEnany agreed. &#8220;Make the kids eat quick.&#8221;
&#8220;First of all my kids don’t eat quickly,&#8221; Banderas added, saying that it would never work to try that in her home. &#8220;We are there for hours and I will make them sit and I will wait until their plates are empty &#8230; I guess I’m going to infect my family members with Covid because I’m not making my kids eat quickly.&#8221;
&#8220;When you slave over all that food you don’t want your kids sloughing it down, you want your kids to take their bite slowly and enjoyed. The hard labor that my mother will be putting in towards our Thanksgiving feast since I don&#8217;t cook, I wouldn&#8217;t do that to my mom,&#8221; Banderas said.
&#8220;I thought it was parody,&#8221; McEnany continued, noting that the subtitle for that particular questions was, &#8216;Help, the kids are coming inside.&#8217; I mean, amazing.&#8221;
&#8220;You can’t make this up. Truth is stranger than fiction nowadays. A New York Times headline is the same as The Onion headlines, you can’t tell them apart,&#8221; Compagno added, arguing that the real tragedy was that instead of focusing on family and giving thanks, people were resorting to writing to newspapers for advice on what they could do to keep their families safe and healthy.
&#8220;Why isn&#8217;t the government answering the question? I thought Dr. Fauci had all the answers,&#8221; she said.

&#8220;Trey, at that vote that was taken in the Senate a couple of weeks back on Rand Paul&#8217;s motion, 45 senators voted that an impeachment trial post-presidency is unconstitutional,&#8221; Fox News reporter John Roberts said. &#8220;Do you expect that a trial over the coming days will suddenly cause enough of those senators to change their mind that they might actually convict the president?&#8221;
&#8220;I do not John. And I can tell you having done trial work when you start the trial with half of the jury thinking you shouldn&#8217;t even be there, you&#8217;re not going to win,&#8221; Gowdy responded. &#8220;None of those 45 will change their mind.&#8221;

The only reference to force in the President&#8217;s speech on the sixth of January, was in taking pride in his administration&#8217;s creation of the Space Force. Mr. Trump never made any express or implied mention of weapons, the need for weapons or anything of the sort. It goes on to say, Mr. Trump used the word &#8220;fights&#8221; in the figurative sense of arguing or putting forth an extreme effort.

I mean, if you&#8217;re dumb enough to believe that that&#8217;s going to incite you &#8230; is play those clips and say, You know what, if you&#8217;re going to start penalizing hot political rhetoric, let&#8217;s do it for both sides.</blockquote>

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) both slammed the far-left&#8217;s new agenda of defunding police departments, saying that the idea is ludicrous and would undermine the entire justice system.
Appearing on Fox News&#8217;s &#8220;Sunday Morning Futures,&#8221; Scott said that the idea to &#8220;defund the police&#8221; was a &#8220;ridiculous idea.&#8221;
&#8220;It is not an idea whose time has come,&#8221; Scott continued. &#8220;It should never come. The absolute nation requires law and order. We need order in our streets, and the easiest way to have that is to have a strong presence of character-driven law enforcement officers.&#8221;
Scott added that he has introduced the George Floyd-Walter Scott Notification Act in an effort to get law enforcement agencies to report data on the use of force that leads to death so that lawmakers can get a clearer picture of what is going on throughout the country.
Later during the program Gowdy said, &#8220;Defunding the police is the single dumbest idea I have ever heard.&#8221;
&#8220;Who is going to process crime scenes, arrest bad people?&#8221; Gowdy continued. &#8220;Who is going to enforce any law, child sex abuse, homicide? Who is going to do it, if it&#8217;s not the police?&#8221;

BARTIROMO: And I love the fact that the both of you are such good friends and have been such good friends for many years now.
What is your reaction to defund the police? And I also, Senator, want to take your attention to this op-ed that we saw in The Journal this week, &#8220;The Myth of Systemic Police Racism,&#8221; the myth.
They say: &#8220;George Floyd&#8217;s death in Minneapolis has revived the Obama era narrative that law enforcement is endemically racist. In fact, this charge of systemic police bias is &#8212; was wrong during the Obama years and remains wrong today. However sickening the video of Floyd&#8217;s arrest, it does not represent the 375 million annual contracts the police officers have with civilians.&#8221;
Your reaction.
SCOTT: Well, I&#8217;d say, on the defund police, what a ridiculous idea.
It is not an idea whose time has come. It should never come. The absolute nation requires law and order. We need order in our of streets, and the easiest way to have that is to have a strong presence of character-driven law enforcement officers.
As it relates to the op-ed, I had a chance to read Heather&#8217;s work. I start off by, bless her heart.
But I would say this to that op-ed. There&#8217;s no doubt in my mind that the average law enforcement officer in this nation is not a racist. There&#8217;s also no doubt in my mind that, when you look at the actual facts, black folks are 2.5 times more likely to be shot by an officer than whites.
There&#8217;s a lot missing in the articles. One of the reasons why I have proposed of legislation, the George Floyd-Walter Scott Notification Act, to get law enforcement agencies to report the data on the use of force that leads to death.
Without that actual information in an aggregate value, we don&#8217;t really know what&#8217;s going on. Fewer than 45 percent of agencies actually report their information to the FBI.
So, I think it would help all of us to get a clearer picture of what&#8217;s going on within the law enforcement community.
BARTIROMO: Trey.
TREY GOWDY, FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR: You know, Maria, within communities of color, the issues with law enforcement are much broader than who shoots whom.
That&#8217;s incredibly important, but it&#8217;s arrest rates. It&#8217;s sentencing disparities. It&#8217;s access to bond. It&#8217;s access to diversion programs.
Senator Scott mentioned being stopped by law enforcement. Maria, he was stopped seven times as a law &#8212; as a public official. Seven times, the man your viewers are looking at was stopped by law enforcement. He was stopped from entering the Capitol, even though he wears his Senate lapel pin and looks like a CPA.
I look like a gangster and don&#8217;t wear my House lapel pin, and I was never stopped. So, the problems are much broader than just who shoots whom.
BARTIROMO: OK.
GOWDY: Defunding the police is the single dumbest idea I have ever heard.
Who is going to process crime scenes, arrest bad people? Who is going to enforce any law, child sex abuse, homicide? Who is going to do it, if it&#8217;s not the police?
BARTIROMO: Yes, it&#8217;s a great point. Yes.

Guys, I want to get your reaction to what the D.C. mayor had painted on the streets. And this is the Black Lives Matter mural which is on the road leading to the White House.
Do you think this is to honor the cause, or is this a message to President Trump, Senator?
SCOTT: It certainly is a &#8212; it certainly is a message to President Trump. And it&#8217;s a terrible message to our nation. It is polarizing, unnecessary, and unproductive.
The fact of the matter is that we certainly need to focus our attention on moving this country together, about healing. And that seemed to be in your face for one specific purpose, to be in his face.
That does not help the movement. It does not help the cause. It does not help the country. I found it to be really polarizing.
BARTIROMO: How are we going to bring this country together?
I know, Senator, you have been speaking with President Trump. Trey Gowdy, you have been talking a lot about this. What are your ideas, first you, Trey, in terms of bring the country together?
GOWDY: Well, you know, Maria, three years ago, Tim Scott and I could have written a book about anything in the world, and we chose to write a book about unity.
And Tim Scott has done more to open my eyes. I have never been black a day in my life, not a day in my life. So, I need someone else&#8217;s eyes to experience that, to understand what that is like.
We need a country that is not so wed to conflict, wed to divisiveness. I mean, we have been through impeachment, a pandemic&#8230;
BARTIROMO: Yes.
GOWDY: &#8230; an economic maelstrom.
We need to focus on unity, and not monetizing conflict, which is what our culture does now.
SCOTT: Maria, one of the&#8230;
BARTIROMO: I think, Senator, you have been doing that with your Opportunity Zones too.
Go ahead, sir.
SCOTT: We certainly have.
President Trump is actually right about the importance of an economic comeback to bring people together. The more resources you have, the more margin you have towards other people in the country.
But one of the things that we can do to bring this nation together is to follow the example of Trey Gowdy as a prosecutor and as a human being. Trey has an amazing story. A young African-American was killed &#8212; murdered. Excuse me.
And her father had no confidence in the justice system, until he met Trey Gowdy. And as a result of that meeting with Trey Gowdy, he still had no confidence. But, at the end of the trial, the man who said that this country is too prejudiced to bring justice to his daughter&#8230;
BARTIROMO: Yes.
SCOTT: &#8230; he hugged Trey Gowdy. He hugged him, because justice was found.

Regarding President Donald Trump, Logan noted that nearly all coverage on POTUS is negative. “That’s distortion of the way things go in real life, because although the media has historically always been left-leaning, we’ve abandoned our pretense, or at least the effort, to be objective today,” Logan said.
“We’ve become political activists, and some could argue propagandists, and there’s some merit to that,” she bluntly added.

In an <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2020/05/10/trey-gowdy-adam-schiff-leaks-cnn-politico/">interview</a> on Fox News’ Sunday morning, former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy &#8220;named some names&#8221; from what he suggested was a very long list of reporters from mainstream media outlets who helped &#8220;peddle&#8221; Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff&#8217;s Trump-Russia conspiracy claims, for which Special Counsel Robert Mueller ultimately found no substantive evidence.
After 22-months and tens of millions of dollars dedicated to the investigation, Mueller concluded in his 448-page final report that his team &#8220;did not find that the Trump campaign, or anyone associated with it, conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in these efforts, despite multiple efforts from Russian-affiliated individuals to assist the Trump campaign.&#8221;
While Mueller was slowly conducting his exhaustive investigation, House Intelligence Committee member and eventual chair Adam Schiff was repeatedly publicly claiming that there was conclusive evidence of the &#8220;collusion&#8221; claim, evidence he failed to produce and Mueller conclusively proved did not exist. (The Daily Caller documented <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2019/07/24/rep-schiff-419-interviews-russian-collusion/">over 400 times</a> that Schiff publicly pushed the claim.)
Though Schiff was the source of the Mueller-debunked claims, Gowdy and Fox host Maria Bartiromo pointed out during &#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; this weekend that the mainstream media is also culpable in the spreading of the conspiratorial narrative that the Trump campaign worked with the Russian government in order to &#8220;steal&#8221; the election from Hillary Clinton.
&#8220;You talk about the media having culpability as well,&#8221; said Bartiromo, &#8220;Name some names of those reporters out there, those media institutions that helped Adam Schiff peddle this &#8216;in plain sight collusion&#8217; nonsense that he said for three years.&#8221;
&#8220;Well, I hope you have a three-hour show,&#8221; said Gowdy. &#8220;Let&#8217;s just start with Politico and anyone not named <a href="https://www.politico.com/staff/rachael-bade">Rachael Bade</a> — she was the only reporter that I dealt with that was fair.&#8221;
&#8220;<a href="https://www.politico.com/states/staff/kyle-cheney">Kyle Cheney</a> is just an acolyte for Adam Schiff,&#8221; said Gowdy in reference to Politico congressional reporter. &#8220;Manu Raju from CNN,&#8221; the former congressman added, referencing another senior congressional reporter. &#8220;Nothing Schiff wanted out, made public, no leak was too low for Manu Raju and CNN.&#8221;
Then there is the Gray Lady. &#8220;Fill in the blank at The New York Times,&#8221; said Gowdy.
As noted by Daily Caller&#8217;s <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2020/05/10/trey-gowdy-adam-schiff-leaks-cnn-politico/">Chuck Ross</a>, Schiff once cited the salacious widely debunked Steele dossier during a March 20, 2017 intelligence committee hearing, claiming Trump and Russia were involved in a &#8220;well-developed conspiracy of collusion.&#8221; Schiff also infamously released a memo in February 2018 defending the FBI&#8217;s handling of the &#8220;dirty&#8221; dossier in initiating surveillance of Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.  An investigation by the Justice Department inspector general found that the FBI heavily relied on the dossier, despite it being the result of opposition research funded by the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign and being unverified and highly dubious.

On Wednesday night, after Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) had called for Attorney General William Barr to resign after the Department of Justice  recommended a lighter sentence for Roger Stone, former House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/trey-gowdy-bill-barr-resignation-roger-stone">told Martha MacCallum of Fox News</a>, “The notion that Bill Barr should resign is about the dumbest damn thing I have ever heard.”
Warren had <a href="https://twitter.com/ewarren/status/1227642421762252800?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fpolitics%2Fdems-demand-barrs-resignation-amid-stone-sentence-storm">tweeted</a>, “Congress must act immediately to rein in our lawless Attorney General. Barr should resign or face impeachment. And Congress should use spending power to defund the AG’s authority to interfere with anything that affects Trump, his friends, or his elections.” Blumenthal added, “Attorney General William Barr ought to be ashamed and embarrassed and resign as a result of this action directly interfering in the independent prosecution of Roger Stone.”
MacCallum prompted Gowdy by asking, “What’s your take on this story?”
Gowdy answered:
<blockquote>That the prosecutors wanted nine years, Bill Barr thinks that two or three years is more proportional and the only difference between the two is whether you count this eight-level enhancement for actively threatening a witness. If you didn’t have that enhancement, then everyone would agree that Bill Barr’s view of the guidelines is accurate. So the judge is gonna decide whether or not that enhancement is appropriate, supported by the facts.
Martha, this was a trial; she presided over the trial; she listened to the witnesses; she’s uniquely well-positioned to decide whether or not that enhancement should be in play, but the notion — I mean, prosecutors don’t sentence people. Presidents don’t sentence people; Fox News commentators don’t sentence people; judges do. And we give them life tenure so they can make these calls.
But the notion that Bill Barr should resign is about the dumbest damn thing I have ever heard. If a United States senator really believes that the head of the Department of Justice cannot weigh in on what a proportional sentence is — I mean, there are child pornographers who do not get nine years, Martha. There are people who rob banks that don’t get nine years. So let the judge decide. I think two or three year is about right.</blockquote>
MacCallum asked about President Trump’s tweeting about the case, noting Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) saying Trump should not have issued the tweet.
Gowdy responded:
<blockquote>I’ve had the same position whether it was Barack Obama or Donald Trump: I do not think the chief executive should be weighing in ongoing investigations or criminal prosecutions. That was my position with President Obama when he weighed in on the &#8220;not a smidgeon of corruption&#8221;; it’s my position now. I can tell you this: Bill Barr was aware of this recommendation before President Trump ever tweeted a single syllable, a single character. So the notion that Barr was somehow motivated to move because of this tweet is just factually wrong.</blockquote>
MacCallum opined that as soon as the Ukraine investigation and subsequent impeachment trial was completed, Democrats decided they would turn to something else to attack the president. She asked if the Barr/Trump/Stone issues would turn into something “sizeable.”
Gowdy answered: “I don’t think so, because the president has the power to commute Roger Stone’s sentence if he wants to; he has the power to pardon him right now if he wants to. He can do it by tweet tonight. He is the head of the executive branch, and people have a chance in November. If hey want a different one — I’m being consistent; I don’t think presidents ought to weigh in on ongoing investigations or prosecutions.&#8221;

Former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) slammed House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Sunday over the way the entire impeachment process has unfolded, and highlighted the difference between how President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden have been treated in respect to being investigated.
Gowdy, who appeared on Fox News&#8217; &#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; with host Maria Bartiromo, made the remarks in response to a question about what he would advise the president&#8217;s legal team to do during the Senate trial.
&#8220;I would begin to ask questions of Schiff. And I would kind of connect the process with the substance. I would go line by line through that parody,&#8221; Gowdy began. &#8220;Adam Schiff had a chance to read the actual transcript, the actual evidence. He opted instead to create, to manufacture a parody. I would go line by line through that parody and ask Adam Schiff, why did you say that? You have the actual transcript of the call. Why was that not good enough for you, Adam? Why did you have to make up [out of] whole cloth?&#8221;
&#8220;I would also ask him, is it never okay to investigate someone who’s running for office?&#8221; Gowdy continued. &#8220;I mean, if Joe Biden were not a presidential candidate, if he were just like me and you, Maria, just a regular person, can you investigate him then? I mean, somehow this status of being a candidate means you’re off-limits?&#8221;
&#8220;The other thing I’d ask is, it took a conversation in a bar to investigate President Trump,&#8221; Gowdy concluded. &#8220;That’s all it took, a conversation in a bar, to investigate President Trump. What would it take to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden?&#8221;

Let&#8217;s bring in a member of the president&#8217;s defense team, Congressman Mark Meadows, Republican from North Carolina. He sits on the House Oversight Committee. Also joining us is former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy, who served as chairman of the House Oversight Committee. He&#8217;s a former prosecutor and now a FOX News contributor.

REP. MARK MEADOWS (R-NC): Great to be with you.
TREY GOWDY, FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR: Yes, ma&#8217;am. Thank you.
BARTIROMO: Congressman Mark Meadows, let me kick it off with you. What can we expect from the defense team tomorrow morning?
MEADOWS: Well, obviously the two hours that was presented Saturday morning really went a long way to undercut the foundation of what Adam Schiff and his team laid out on three previous days.
I can tell you, it is more about what Adam Schiff didn&#8217;t tell the American people than what he did tell them.
Mike Purpura did a great job of lining out those nine things. Why didn&#8217;t Adam Schiff tell you these nine important facts? And so what we will see on Monday is a strategic building upon that foundation to tell the rest of the story.
Trey Gowdy and I got to see the very beginnings of the whole Russia investigation. And we knew that Adam Schiff multiple times was, at best, mischaracterizing the evidence that he had.
But we&#8217;re going to continue to see that on Monday, as the entire team builds step by step, block by block, the reasons why there&#8217;s not only not an impeachable case, but certainly not even anything that comes remotely close to high crimes and misdemeanors.
BARTIROMO: Yes.
MEADOWS: And this is all about politics, Maria. It has nothing to do with witnesses or anything else. It&#8217;s all about a political – really a political allegation, trying to impugn the president&#8217;s reputation.
BARTIROMO: And, Trey Gowdy, it&#8217;s interesting, because the House prosecutors&#8217; strategy seems to be, let&#8217;s shame the senators, saying, well, I guess you have to go with President Trump. Otherwise, your head will be on a pike, or, look, you&#8217;re all involved in a cover-up.
But the legal team of the president, that strategy, partly, is including an indictment of Adam Schiff&#8217;s character, looking back to what Adam Schiff said during the Russia collusion narrative, which, of course, was not true, and to show that there were lies throughout.
What do you advise the president&#8217;s team to take, what tack to take?
TREY GOWDY, FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR: Well, I would let them let Jerry never take all the time he wants to talk.

GOWDY: Jerry Nadler&#8217;s trial strategy is to insult the jury. I was in a lot of courtrooms, Maria. I never, ever saw a prosecutor have as a strategy, let&#8217;s see what we can do to infuriate, alienate, and offend the jury.
What I would do if I were – you know, the president has got a great team. Mark is great, Ratcliffe, Pat. But I would begin to ask questions of Schiff. And I would kind of connect the process with the substance. I would go line by line through that parody.

BARTIROMO: Yes. The other thing is, you haven&#8217;t seen the 18th transcript, Mark. You haven&#8217;t – Congressman Meadows. You haven&#8217;t seen the I.G. And that was the 18th transcript.

I want to get to the news of the week, gentlemen. And that was an admission from the Department of Justice that the Department of Justice said that at least two of the FBI surveillance applications to secretly monitor former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page lacked probable cause, they were unlawful.
That&#8217;s not what we heard from Jim Comey back in 2018.

JAMES COMEY, FORMER FBI DIRECTOR: I have total confidence that the FISA process was followed and that the entire case was handled in a thoughtful, responsible way by DOJ and the FBI.
I think the notion that FISA was abused here is nonsense.

BARTIROMO: Nonsense, Mark Meadows. Your reaction?

MEADOWS: Well, Maria, you have been covering this.
Trey Gowdy, John Ratcliffe, Jim Jordan, and I knew the facts of this. We knew that not only that that third and fourth FISA application had problems with it, but we also know that there were real probable cause concerns with the first and second one.
So, we haven&#8217;t seen the end of this.
Why does it matter? It matters for this reason, Adam Schiff knew that there were problems with that. He purposely went out and suggested that Devin Nunes was not correct with his analysis, just like he&#8217;s purposely going out right now spinning a narrative as it relates to Ukrainian aid being held up for some nefarious purpose.
It just didn&#8217;t happen.
BARTIROMO: It&#8217;s all connected, Trey Gowdy.
GOWDY: Yes. Four different times, the United States government went and asked permission to surveil a presidential candidate. At least two of them, they lacked the lowest level of evidence needed, the lowest level of evidence needed.
This is not the search of some meth lab in a trailer park. It is surveilling a presidential candidate. And the FBI and DOJ struck out at least two out of four times, and maybe all four.
Schiff, Comey, McCabe, The Washington Post, New York Times, Politico, they were all wrong, and those crazy House Republicans turned out to be right after all.
BARTIROMO: And yet that&#8217;s not what you heard from Adam Schiff in the trial. Do you believe he will be – the president will be acquitted, very quickly, Mark Meadows?
MEADOWS: He will be acquitted. We need to get this over with quickly, so it doesn&#8217;t linger into the November elections.
