Texas Senator John Cornyn introduced a bill Tuesday that would end all federal funding for transgender procedures on both children and adults.
The Stop Funding Genital Mutilation Act would ensure that no dollars from Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) pay for transgender medical procedures, like removing the breasts of girls who identify as boys, or the administration of cross-sex hormones.
“Texas taxpayers should not be forced to foot the bill for dangerous and often debilitating ‘gender transition’ procedures that are driven by radical ideology masquerading as health care,” Cornyn told The Daily Wire.
The text of the proposal, also sponsored by Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), follows the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/long-overdue-house-republicans-vote-to-end-federal-funding-for-transgender-procedures?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=%E2%80%98Long+Overdue%E2%80%99%3A+House+Republicans+Vote+To+End+Federal+Funding+For+Transgender+Procedures">same lines</a> as the “one, big, beautiful” bill passed by the House, which also ends all funding for transgender procedures. 
Cornyn said that he would fight to ensure that the Senate’s version of the reconciliation spending bill would cut funding for transgender procedures like the House. His introduction of the bill comes as he faces a contentious primary challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton, also a firm opponent of transgender procedures. 
President Donald Trump made opposing transgender ideology a key plank of his 2024 platform, a position that proved popular with both Republicans and independents. In January, he signed an executive order slashing federal funding for entities that perform transgender procedures on minors. 
A recent review by the Department of Health and Human Services found that the arguments for transgender procedures on minors were not backed by scientific evidence. 
“The ‘gender-affirming’ model of care includes irreversible endocrine and surgical interventions on minors with no physical pathology,” the review summary <a href="https://opa.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/2025-05/gender-dysphoria-report-exec-summary.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “These interventions carry risk of significant harms including infertility/sterility, sexual dysfunction, impaired bone density accrual, adverse cognitive impacts, cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders, psychiatric disorders, surgical complications, and regret.”
Over two dozen states, including Texas and Oklahoma, have enacted laws protecting kids from transgender procedures.
“Before they can vote, drive, or get a tattoo, some children are pushed into irreversible gender-transition procedures with no proven long-term health benefit,” Lankford said. “These treatments can cause lasting harm, and taxpayers should not be forced to fund them.”
Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-sen-marshall-urges-gop-to-end-funding-for-trans-surgeries">introduced</a> a similar bill last month that would also defund transgender procedures by amending the IRS code to no longer consider the life-altering procedures as health care.

Shortly before leaving office in January 2021, President Donald Trump signed bipartisan<a href="https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/116/hr6100" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> legislation</a> called the “Strengthening the Opposition to Female Genital Mutilation Act of 2020.&#8221; It was a proud day for those of us at Independent Women who had worked for years to put an end to this barbaric practice.
Female genital mutilation is the partial or total removal of female external genitalia for non-medical reasons. Held by certain cultures as a way to ensure young girls remain “pure” before they marry, the traumatic process causes extreme emotional and physical consequences and has no health benefits.
During my service as the director of the International Women’s Issues Office at the State Department, the suffering of young women and girls caused by female genital mutilation haunted me.
The STOP FGM Act<a href="https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/116/hr6100" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> increased</a> penalties for committing this heinous practice, expanded the scope of punishable offenses, and required government agencies to submit an annual report to Congress that includes the estimated number of American women and girls who have undergone or are at risk of genital mutilation.
It is estimated that there are over<a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26957669/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> 513,000</a> women and girls who have experienced or are at risk of genital mutilation in the United States. The STOP FGM Act did more than offer protection to these vulnerable young girls and women. It showed the world that in the United States, there will be no tolerance for this sort of human rights abuse.
Yet while westerners recoil at the idea that girls would be subjected to genital mutilation — irreversible harm under the guise of social or moral good — we enable a different form of abuse on our own girls.
When<a href="https://www.iwfeatures.com/documentary/mentally-ill-teen-betrayed-by-health-professionals-who-recommended-testosterone-and-top-surgery/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Prisha Mosley</a> was a teenager, she believed that changing her body would bring her peace. She was struggling with trauma, mental illness, and a desperate desire to escape herself. Instead of addressing the root of her pain, adults in positions of authority affirmed her self-diagnosis and sent her down a path of hormones and surgeries that would leave Prisha permanently scarred.
What medical professionals did to Prisha and too many other young adolescent men and women — permanently disfiguring their healthy bodies in the name of health care — is no different than what we rightly condemn as female genital mutilation.
In Western hospitals, under bright lights and with institutional backing, minors are being prescribed puberty blockers, injected with testosterone, and undergoing irreversible surgeries to remove healthy breasts or even alter their genitalia — all in the name of “gender affirmation.”
One of the most common prescriptions in gender medicine — testosterone, which Prisha was prescribed at 17 — literally leads to female genital mutilation by causing vaginal atrophy and painful clitoral growth and chafing.
This is without even mentioning phalloplasty, which is a surgery to create an appendage that looks like a penis for trans-identifying females. Surgeons hack off a portion of the woman’s arm for skin to use to create the pseudo-penis, leaving her with an irreversible and highly visible scar, and, once it is created and attached, it is<a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38340965/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> rife with complications</a>, including urinary problems, fistulas, strictures, wounds, and infections.
If a girl in another country were subjected to genital mutilation surgery because her community believed it would make her more acceptable or &#8220;pure,&#8221; we’d be outraged. We’d call it a violation of her bodily autonomy. But when it’s done in the name of identity, we call it “care.”
This double standard is dangerous.
Female genital mutilation and gender-transition surgeries on minors share critical features: they’re performed on healthy bodies, often before the individual is mature enough to understand the full consequences, and they result in lifelong physical and emotional harm. In both cases, young people are manipulated by adults into believing that their value or wholeness depends on altering their bodies irreversibly.

We have laws protecting girls from female genital mutilation, as we should. So why is it controversial to suggest we also need laws to protect vulnerable children from irreversible gender procedures?
At the end of the day, this issue goes beyond politics: it isn’t partisan to want to safeguard children from adult agendas and ideologies that demand lifelong fealty and commitment from confused, traumatized youth. There’s nothing compassionate about a scalpel, nothing healing about cross-sex hormone injections that lead to a lifetime of complications and pain.
Americans like Prisha live every day with the consequences of decisions they’ve made when they were too young and too broken to understand them. If we truly care about protecting children’s rights and bodies, we must be willing to speak uncomfortable truths. And one of those truths is this: female genital mutilation and gender transition surgeries on minors are more alike than we dare admit. Both should be outlawed.

The Trump-backed “big, beautiful bill&#8221; House Republicans passed early Thursday will prohibit all federal funding for transgender procedures on both children and adults if signed into law.
During a marathon nighttime session, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) successfully expanded a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/republicans-take-big-step-to-codify-trumps-battle-against-gender-insanity?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Republicans+Take+Big+Step+To+Codify+Trump’s+Battle+Against+Gender+Insanity" target="_blank" rel="noopener">provision</a> banning funding for transgender procedures for kids to include adults as well. Due to Crenshaw&#8217;s amendment, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program will no longer cover life-altering and dangerous transgender medical procedures.
&#8220;The Crenshaw Amendment will become law — and it’s long overdue,&#8221; the Texas Republican told The Daily Wire. &#8220;Gender transition procedures are the lobotomy of our generation. So-called &#8216;gender-affirming care&#8217; isn’t healthcare—it’s fringe science with no proven benefit and massive risks.&#8221;
The provision was secured by an amendment to Section 1903(i) of the Social Security Act, prohibiting funding for medically unnecessary procedures. This would mean funding would no longer go toward things like removing the breasts of women who identify as men or crafting pseudo male or female genitalia for transgender-identifying individuals.
Last week, Crenshaw introduced a provision banning the funding of the procedures on kids into the House Energy and Commerce Committee budget bill that it sent to the House Budget Committee. That provision alone would have saved $1.4 billion in taxpayer dollars, The Daily Signal <a href="https://www.dailysignal.com/2025/05/15/republicans-could-secure-about-1-4-billion-savings-through-defunding-child-transitions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> last week.
The full House passed the budget bill 215-214 Thursday morning, including Crenshaw&#8217;s transgender funding ban for both kids and adults. President Donald Trump has cited the ban on funding of child transgender procedures as one of the reasons for Republicans to back the bill.
Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) has pushed for a similar provision to end all taxpayer funding of transgender procedures.

Crenshaw also secured reimbursements for Texas and other border states that have borne the brunt of the illegal immigration under former President Joe Biden, and added work requirements for able-bodied adults to be eligible for Medicaid, with exceptions for disabled people or pregnant women.
Social conservatives also picked up another major win with the advancement of the budget bill, as it would end Medicaid funding for abortion giant Planned Parenthood. Terry Schilling, the president of the American Principles Project, celebrated the passage of the bill.
&#8220;The One, Big, Beautiful Bill that passed the House will end taxpayer funding for gender transition surgeries, defund Planned Parenthood and increase the Child Tax Credit – all are monumental wins for our great nation,&#8221; Schilling said. &#8220;Now it is time for the Senate to get this bill across the finish line so we can Make Families Great Again.”

House Republicans took major step on Wednesday afternoon towards codifying President Donald Trump&#8217;s efforts to protect children from transgender procedures during a marathon markup session for the &#8220;one, big, beautiful bill&#8221; working its way through Congress.
After a 26-hour budget hearing, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed a provision from Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) that would block federal dollars funding transgender procedures. This means that Medicaid, Affordable Care Act, and Children&#8217;s Health Insurance Program money will no longer be allowed to fund procedures like removing the breasts of girls who identify as boys or putting children on cross-sex hormones, if the provision makes it through the rest of the reconciliation process.
The provision was included in the committee&#8217;s portion of the Trump-backed budget bill. In a video shared with The Daily Wire, Crenshaw said he believed that ultimately his proposal would become law.
&#8220;I think it will pass the House, I think it will pass the Senate. I think President Trump will sign it into law. Keep in mind, President Trump has already done an executive action on this, but it needs to be codified for it to really take effect. This is a huge win,&#8221; he said. &#8220;You got to protect these kids, the science is clear at this point.&#8221;

He added that it was &#8220;interesting&#8221; that Democrats did not introduce any amendments to block his provision while they did for every other GOP-backed proposal.
&#8220;They know it&#8217;s a losing issue, they know we won this issue. They know to stay away from it. Stay away from kids. Stop doing pseudo-science, scientific experiments on children who would be better off in therapy. We&#8217;re winning.&#8221;
Crenshaw introduced his provision at around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, roughly 25 hours after the committee began its meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
&#8220;This will become law and I couldn&#8217;t be happier about it,&#8221; Crenshaw said. &#8220;Gender transition procedures are the lobotomy of our generation. People will look back on this period, I think with disbelief, I guarantee it. &#8216;Gender-affirming care&#8217; isn&#8217;t healthcare, it&#8217;s fringe science with no proven benefit and enormous risks.&#8221;
Democrat Rep. Nanette Díaz Barragán (CA) referred to Crenshaw&#8217;s comments as &#8220;gibberish&#8221; and attacked Republicans over provisions meant to reform Medicaid.
Crenshaw proposed a similar bill in January. Now, the proposal from the House Energy Committee will go to the House Budget Committee, which will then combine each of the House committee&#8217;s budget proposals into one piece of legislation that will then go to the full House for a vote.
The Texas Republican&#8217;s provision was part of the House Energy Committee&#8217;s commitment to identify $880 billion in spending cuts. Another proposal from Crenshaw was an 80-hour-per-month work, training, or volunteer requirement for able-bodied, working-age adults without dependents to get Medicaid. Exceptions for seniors, pregnant women, caregivers, students, and those with disabilities were given.
If Crenshaw&#8217;s transgender procedures proposal makes it across the finish line, it would cement in law President Donald Trump&#8217;s executive order on &#8220;Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.&#8221; Trump directed his cabinet to ensure that no federal dollars were going toward hospitals or institutions that promote or perform transgender procedures on children.
Trump&#8217;s executive order called for Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to look at ways to &#8220;take all appropriate actions to end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children&#8221; including by examining Medicaid funding. The Department of Health and Human Services <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hhs-releases-damning-review-of-gender-treatments-for-minors-the-risks-cannot-be-ignored" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released a report</a> earlier this month documenting the risks of transgender procedures for children, including infertility, sexual dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease.
In the other chamber, Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) is pushing for his “No Subsidies for Gender Transition Procedures Act,&#8221; which would prohibit federal dollars from funding any transgender medical procedure, to be included in the reconciliation process.

Miller went on to say that the administration&#8217;s policies applied to every school in the K-12 system, adding, &#8220;The Department of Justice is also coordinating with state and local law enforcement to fight child abuse in our school system. It is child abuse to change a child&#8217;s gender, particularly if you do not inform the parents. In other words, if a five-year-old or a six-year-old goes to school, or a seven-year-old goes to school, and the teacher tries to turn the boy into a girl and a girl into a boy, that is child abuse, and this administration is treating that as child abuse. And it is a gross violation of parental rights.&#8221;
Miller then directed the message from the administration to hospital systems across the country, saying that they would not be able to funnel taxpayer dollars into gender transition programs.

The review identified a number of risks associated with intervention, including infertility, sexual dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease.
&#8220;Despite increasing pressure to promote these drastic medical interventions for our nation’s youth, the review makes clear: the science and evidence do not support their use, and the risks cannot be ignored,&#8221; an HHS press release sent to The Daily Wire reads.
&#8220;The &#8216;gender-affirming&#8217; model of care includes irreversible endocrine and surgical interventions on minors with no physical pathology,&#8221; the review summary <a href="https://opa.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/2025-05/gender-dysphoria-report-exec-summary.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;These interventions carry risk of significant harms including infertility/sterility, sexual dysfunction, impaired bone density accrual, adverse cognitive impacts, cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders, psychiatric disorders, surgical complications, and regret.&#8221;
It also determined that there is &#8220;no independent association between gender dysphoria and suicidality,&#8221; and &#8220;no evidence that pediatric medical transition reduces the incidence of suicide, which remains, fortunately, very low.&#8221;
The review found that the supposed benefits from medical intervention are severely in question and do not outweigh the risks. HHS also said that the perception of a &#8220;consensus&#8221; in support of these treatments is being pushed by medical associations, while dissent is stifled.
&#8220;U.S. medical associations played a key role in creating a perception that there is professional consensus in support of pediatric medical transition,&#8221; the summary review said. &#8220;This apparent consensus, however, is driven primarily by a small number of specialized committees, influenced by WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health). It is not clear that the official views of these associations are shared by the wider medical community, or even by most of their members. There is evidence that some medical and mental health associations have suppressed dissent and stifled debate about this issue among their members.&#8221;
The evidence for benefits from pediatric medical intervention is &#8220;very uncertain,&#8221; the review stated, &#8220;while the evidence for harm is less uncertain.&#8221; Thus, the review suggested, medical professionals should not offer them, even if they are requested.
&#8220;When medical interventions pose unnecessary, disproportionate risks of harm, healthcare providers should refuse to offer them even when they are preferred, requested, or demanded by patients,&#8221; it said. &#8220;Failure to do so increases the risk of iatrogenic harm and reduces medicine to consumerism, threatening the integrity of the profession and undermining trust in medical authority.&#8221;
The review also recognized detransitioners, or individuals who received medical treatment for their gender confusion but later regretted such intervention.
&#8220;The voices of whistleblowers and detransitioners have played a critical role in drawing public attention to the risks and harms associated with pediatric medical transition,&#8221; HHS said. &#8220;Their concerns have been discounted, dismissed, or ignored by prominent advocates and practitioners of pediatric medical transition.&#8221;
Evaluating other forms of treatment for a gender-confused minor, HHS ridiculed the notion that psychotherapy could be deemed &#8220;conversion therapy.&#8221;
&#8220;There is a dearth of research on psychotherapeutic approaches to managing gender dysphoria in children and adolescents,&#8221; the department said. &#8220;This is due in part to the mischaracterization of such approaches as &#8216;conversion therapy.&#8217; A more robust evidence base supports psychotherapeutic approaches to managing common comorbid mental health conditions. Psychotherapy is a noninvasive alternative to endocrine and surgical interventions for the treatment of pediatric gender dysphoria. Systematic reviews of evidence have found no evidence of adverse effects of psychotherapy in this context.&#8221;
The department underscored how minors and their families &#8220;require, and are entitled to, accurate, evidence-based information to guide their decisions,&#8221; and said this comprehensive review is for them, as well as policymakers, clinicians, therapists, and medical organizations.

Senator Roger Marshall on Thursday will introduce a measure to keep taxpayer dollars from going toward transgender medical procedures on both children and adults.
The Kansas Republican&#8217;s bill, the &#8220;No Subsidies for Gender Transition Procedures Act,&#8221; would ensure that transgender medical procedures  — such as removing the breasts of girls who identify boys — would not be considered healthcare under IRS code. The Kansas Republican told The Daily Wire that he designed the bill specifically with an eye towards including it in the &#8220;one, big, beautiful&#8221; bill backed by President Donald Trump working its way through Congress.
“Americans overwhelmingly agree that hard-earned taxpayer dollars should not go toward paying for harmful gender transition procedures,” Marshall said.
“This legislation delivers on President Trump’s promise, puts a halt to the misuse of federal funds for gender transition procedures on both minors and adults, and defends our nation’s values. As the reconciliation process continues, I urge my colleagues to support this commonsense legislation and ensure it is included in the One, Big, Beautiful Bill.”
Marshall pointed to the proposal&#8217;s focus on amending the tax code and mandatory spending as reasons why it should fall under Trump&#8217;s &#8220;beautiful bill proposal.&#8221;
One major component of the bill would be to prohibit transgender procedures being funded with dollars from Medicaid, Medicare, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This would mean no more taxpayer funding for procedures like removing the breasts of women identifying as men or surgeries to create pseudo-male and female genitalia.
Marshall&#8217;s proposal would also end tax deductions for transgender medical procedures by changing the definition of health care used by the IRS.
From 2016 to 2021, the Defense Department spent around $15 million on transgender procedures for military members, according to Marshall&#8217;s office. Twenty-five states and the District of Columbia also include the procedures in their Medicaid policies.
Fellow Republican Senators Bill Cassidy (LA), Pete Ricketts (NE), and Mike Lee (UT) are backing the bill while Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) introduced a companion bill in the House.
“Taxpayers should never be forced to fund dangerous and irreversible gender transition surgeries. The No Subsidies for Gender Transition Procedures Act sets a sweeping precedent by applying to both adults and minors and applying to as many federal funding streams as possible,” Tenney said.
“This will ensure that regardless of the age of the individual looking to mutilate themselves, the American taxpayer will not be forced to subsidize it. We are working to ensure that not a dime of federal funds can be used to pay for gender transition procedures.”
Trump has already taken aim at the funding of transgender procedures for children, signing an executive order blocking funding from hospitals that facilitate the &#8220;mutilation&#8221; of kids.

Detransitioner Claire Abernathy hadn’t even made it to high school yet when her doctors encouraged her to undergo a double mastectomy. Despite <a href="https://www.iwf.org/2025/04/28/new-identity-crisis-documentary-mother-and-daughter-expose-medical-industrys-transgender-manipulation-and-lies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">her concerns</a> about the procedure, her mother, Carrie, was told that affirming Claire’s gender identity was the only way to prevent her from killing herself.
Now, years later, both mother and daughter <a href="https://www.iwf.org/2025/04/28/new-identity-crisis-documentary-mother-and-daughter-expose-medical-industrys-transgender-manipulation-and-lies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opened up</a> to IW Features about how the medical system manipulated them into making permanent and irreversible decisions — the consequences of which they are still grappling with today.
The worst part? They’re not alone.
The Abernathy family is part of a growing segment of our population coming to terms with the damage done by gender ideologues. Hopefully, they will serve as inspiration for other families fighting not just gender confusion, but a manipulative industry that turns this confusion into profit.
The adolescent brain is a work in progress. We all know this to be true — after all, why else would we restrict young men and women from getting a tattoo until they’ve turned 18 or from purchasing alcohol until they’ve turned 21? It doesn’t matter how much a kid feels like an “old soul.” A young person’s prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for decision-making and impulse control, continues to <a href="https://hillcrestatc.com/teen-brain-development/">mature</a> well into their mid-20s.
Because teens go through this lengthy, often angsty developmental stage, they’re that much more susceptible to risk-taking behaviors and less capable of fully understanding long-term consequences. This is why <a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving/drunk-driving" target="_blank" rel="noopener">one in five</a> teen drivers involved in a fatal crash had some alcohol in their system — because teens are more likely to underestimate the effects of alcohol on their bodies and overestimate their ability to drive inebriated. Similarly, <a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1016/j.soscij.2016.08.004" target="_blank" rel="noopener">studies</a> show that as many as one-third of tattooed adolescents regret inking up their bodies. And unsurprisingly, <a href="https://www.mdedge.com/psychiatry/article/98697/dermatology/teenage-tattoos-are-most-often-regretted" target="_blank" rel="noopener">research</a> indicates that the younger a teen is when they get a tattoo, the more likely they are to regret it later.
So why aren’t America’s trusted, highly esteemed medical professionals drawing the same conclusions about so-called “gender-affirming” procedures? While comprehensive data on regret following medical interventions in gender-confused minors is still emerging, stories like Claire’s are proof that medicalization can and does have victims. At least if you cop some bad ink, you might be able to get it <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/snl-pete-davidson-spending-six-figures-remove-all-tattoos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lasered off</a> later. But the permanence of gender-affirming procedures adds a sickening layer of complexity and potential for regret.
Teens might swear up and down they know what they want with their lives, like an unattainable dream job or goals to jet-set around the world childless and unbothered. But I’m willing to bet that teens can, and often will, change their minds. I know I did. If you asked 16-year-old Andrea if she wanted to get married and have children, she would have laughed in your face. And, if you asked her if she felt comfortable in her female body, she probably would have similarly scoffed.
Puberty is a really rough time for any young person. That’s not only something Claire expressed to me during her interview, but it’s a reality I have lived myself. I can recall the first conscious moment I felt insecure about my body: I was in elementary school, watching a movie starring young Lindsay Lohan, and I saw how her thighs didn’t touch when she sat down on a car seat.
<a href="https://depts.washington.edu/thmedia/view.cgi?page=fastfacts&amp;section=bodyimage">Studies</a> show that as many as 40% of nine and 10-year-old girls are already trying to lose weight, and as many as 70% of normal-weight teen girls <a href="https://archive.nytimes.com/well.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/23/many-normal-weight-teens-feel-fat/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">think</a> they’re overweight. Should parents of young girls who wrongfully believe they are fat indulge their child’s delusions and allow her to diet, or worse, get liposuction? If that sounds ridiculous, that’s because it is.
Yet, that’s exactly what the medical and entertainment industries are telling parents of gender-confused children that they must do.

In my home state of California, $28,890,512 has been spent on youth “transgender” medical interventions, according to <a href="https://stoptheharmdatabase.com/state/california/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">StopTheHarm</a>. Ethically speaking, plastic surgeons are supposed to assess the physical and emotional maturity of teen patients before they go under the knife for cosmetic procedures. So why does nearly every story of detransition reveal that medical professionals rarely, if ever, address underlying psychological issues — Borderline Personality Disorder, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc. — in gender-confused youth ? And why is it that the only solution offered by most medical professionals is for these youth to have their healthy body parts modified?
And what can parents realistically do? Carrie’s experience reminds me of the old adage: Mother knows best. She knew something was off when the medical professionals rushed to transition her daughter, but was guilt-tripped and persuaded into proceeding with medicalization.
Looking back, Carrie said she realizes she should have trusted her parental intuition. Parents are often the first line of defense in protecting their child’s well-being. They should feel empowered to trust those instincts, especially when it comes to irreversible medical decisions. Carrie said it best when speaking with me: “You are the expert on your own child.”
Indeed, the Abernathy story is a timely reminder of the very real consequences of sidelining parental concerns and the dire importance of scrutinizing medical practices that clearly prioritize profit and ideology over patient well-being.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It is also a moment when many trans activists and aligned organizations have taken the opportunity to bring up studies and statistics about the high rate of sexual assault for those who identify as trans. These topics are inexorably linked — something I know firsthand, as both a sexual assault survivor and a detransitioner.
My desire to transition was largely due to being sexually assaulted when I was 14. I believed I could escape myself and my sex through medicalization. I know now that, in truth, I never changed sex. And undergoing hormones and surgery did not help my mental health or heal my torment. That required facing the trauma in therapy and doing the real work of recovery.
The trans community is right that sexual assault is a real and horrible reality for too many people who identify as trans. The same is true for those who detransition — we often have histories of sexual abuse. But what the trans activists are not honest about is the timing of the sexual assault and how it relates to trans identities themselves.
Like me, most of the people with trans identities I have interacted with (both online and offline) experienced sexual assault prior to their identifying as transgender, not because of it.
I remember talking with other members of the trans community online and in my doctor-recommended support group when I was a teen. We spoke about abusive or violent sexual encounters we had experienced. Many of us were extremely young when we experienced abuse, or were still forced to endure it while simultaneously trying to medicalize our bodies. Our relationships with ourselves were fragmented and in crisis, and our relationships with each other were an unhealthy bond forged by trauma. We all believed we wouldn’t be so burdened when we could finally transform into the opposite sex.
Sexual assault is a life-changing experience. Anyone who has experienced it knows what I mean. It takes away your power and your autonomy and makes your body feel unsafe. Activists try to sell transitioning as a cure to such vulnerable people. They insist that transitioning offers the victims of sexual assault the promise of greater control over their bodies. It allows the victims to change it into something they believe is less likely to be hurt. Transitioning is described by doctors and activists alike as a type of rebirth; many people try in vain to transition into a person who was never assaulted at all.

It is cruel and unethical for a doctor to change the body of a sexual assault victim. Our bodies were never the problem. An identity crisis is not a medical condition. Trauma is not cured with hormones and surgeries, nor are future assaults prevented that way. Any doctor selling transition to someone reeling from the distress of a sexual assault is harming their patients. There are protocols and standards of care when it comes to victims. Evidence-based and ethical, trauma-informed care is the least the medical community can do for patients who were sexually abused. Instead, many doctors are taking the easy way out and making a profit off the distress and pain of the most vulnerable by selling “cures” that will never come to fruition.
The sexual assault I experienced changed my life when I was young, but transitioning destroyed my health and stole parts of my life away from me. If my doctors had not affirmed my self-hatred and my womanhood and instead listened to my pain and suffering because of my trauma and left my body alone, I would still be healthy. I am still a sexual assault victim, only now, I am missing pieces of myself. True, my breasts will never be touched again without my consent — but now I cannot ever give consent for them to be touched either, all because a doctor decided that the thoughts in my head meant that mutilating my body could heal me.
I have healed now from the terrible trauma of sexual assault, but the chemical and surgical changes my doctor made to my body are irreversible. No person who has been a victim of harm deserves more harm as a result, even if they are broken enough to ask for it. Doctors have a responsibility to say “no” instead of aiding their patients in self-harm. I hope that no doctor will ever be as cruel to another patient who identifies as trans as they were with me — or that lawmakers make it impossible for them to do so.
This Sexual Assault Awareness Month, I urge lawmakers, doctors, and the public to reexamine what’s behind the growing obsession with trans identity and permanently altering girls’ and boys’ healthy bodies. Take it from me: the abuse I suffered altered my life forever. Mutilating my body didn’t make it better, but only added additional trauma and hardship. Sexual assault survivors deserve so much more than that.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and two of her fellow GOP congresswomen discussed her bill banning transgender medical services for children and the &#8220;spiritual warfare&#8221; surrounding gender ideology.
Greene claimed that one of Georgia&#8217;s biggest megachurches trains youth pastors to affirm teens&#8217; new gender identities and pronouns.
&#8220;That should never happen in church because that is confirming Satan&#8217;s lie to these vulnerable children,&#8221; Greene said on the Republican Study Committee&#8217;s <a href="https://linktr.ee/republicanstudycommittee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">podcast</a> &#8220;Right to the Point.&#8221;
Two other Republican women in Congress joined the podcast for Wednesday&#8217;s episode alongside Greene: Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) and Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN). The podcast interviews members of Congress every week from Capitol Hill.
Both women are co-sponsors of Greene&#8217;s bill, the Protect Children&#8217;s Innocence Act, which would ban puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and transgender surgeries like genital sex changes and double mastectomies for minors.
Greene said she is hopeful her bill will get a vote on the House floor soon.
&#8220;President Trump is ready to sign it into action,&#8221; she said.
Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO), who hosted the podcast, said, &#8220;The Left tries to create language that softens things, gender-affirming care. What in the heck does that mean? You are mutilating the body of a young person.&#8221;
Harshbarger said she spent her whole life in the healthcare industry before coming to Congress, where she now fights to protect children from gender ideology.
&#8220;God is so good when he puts us where we need to be to take care of those issues,&#8221; Harshbarger said. &#8220;And it&#8217;s a lie from the pits of hell that you can change your sex, you can&#8217;t change your DNA.&#8221;
&#8220;I think it&#8217;s a direct attack on God&#8217;s creation. God created us male and female just like the bill is stating, male and female in His image, and that&#8217;s why the Left is attacking it,&#8221; Greene said.
&#8220;It&#8217;s a great lie that Satan had from the very beginning in the Garden of Eden, and he is a liar and deceiver, and I think he&#8217;s trying to get to us,&#8221; Alford said. &#8220;And they guilt you into if you don&#8217;t go along with this, then you&#8217;re not human, you&#8217;re not compassionate. No, we are compassionate. And calling gender dysphoria, why would you affirm any type of dysphoria?&#8221;
&#8220;Marjorie, that goes back to the spiritual warfare,&#8221; Harshbarger said after Greene mentioned the Georgia megachurch.
&#8220;When the pastors from the pulpit do not condemn evil, and they uphold what is wrong, what the Bible says, what is conceived as and what is construed as right in the end days will be looked at as wrong, and what is wrong will be looked at as right.&#8221;
&#8220;The truth sets people free,&#8221; Miller said. &#8220;We cannot lie about this. And I want to say that evil never retreats on its own, only when it&#8217;s confronted by a more powerful force. And number one, we have President Trump. He&#8217;s a strong leader. But all of us that have been elected to Congress, we want to be a force against evil.&#8221;
Miller said their opponents have told them they can have their beliefs, but only in their private spaces. &#8220;Go to your home or be quiet,&#8221; opponents insist, according to Miller. 
&#8220;We are not going to do that anymore,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And whether it&#8217;s teachers or it&#8217;s in government, the whistleblowers, parents that are speaking up. &#8230; But we need legislators. We need brave parents, whistleblowers. We need to shed light on all the evil and dark things that have been happening in our country, and praise God that it is happening.&#8221;

A Wyoming doctor who wrote an email to the Wyoming State Legislature where he expressed support for “Chloe’s Law,” — a law which prohibits gender reassignment surgeries and hormone therapies for minors — who was then was forced to resign from the Wyoming Board of Medicine by Governor Mark Gordon, has filed an appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals.
Dr. Eric Cubin was appointed to the Wyoming Board of Medicine in 2023. The Board oversees medical regulation, compliance, and discipline in the state.
“On February 21, 2024, Dr. Cubin emailed Sheila Bush, the Executive Director of WMS, to express his concerns about WMS’s position on Chloe’s Law and to request that WMS present views of physicians on both sides of the issue,” the <a href="https://libertyjusticecenter.org/wp-content/uploads/Cubin-Appellants-Principal-Brief.pdf?utm_source=2023+Media+List&amp;utm_campaign=45034a9f82-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2025_03_26_03_21&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_-45034a9f82-448659176" target="_blank" rel="noopener">brief</a> for the appeal states. “Dr. Cubin and WMS leadership exchanged emails over the next several days, but WMS failed to address Dr. Cubin’s concerns to his satisfaction. Then, on February 28, 2024, Dr. Cubin sent all members of the Wyoming House of Representatives an email expressing his personal support for Chloe’s Law and his criticism of WMS’s position against it.”
Gordon then “forced Dr. Cubin to resign from the Board, claiming that his letter created the ‘appearance of bias’ and could give the impression that he was speaking on the Board’s behalf, —even though his email was sent from his personal account, made clear that he was writing on his own behalf as a Wyoming physician, and did not even mention the Board or his position on it,” Liberty Justice Center, which is representing Cubin, stated.
Gordon’s letter stated that he believed &#8220;Dr. Cubin’s ‘personal comments’ in his email to legislators regarding Chloe’s Law ‘could give doctors, who are licensed by the Board of Medicine, a reason to be concerned that [Dr. Cubin] might use [his] position to advocate for a particular position when considering matters that should be considered absent an agenda,’ and that ‘medical professionals should be confident that their licensure, which is their livelihood, will be handled professionally and clinically examined on merits alone,’” the brief stated. “Governor Gordon’s letter further stated that he was terminating Dr. Cubin ‘as I have done before, when a member of a board chooses to express personal beliefs in a way that can be construed as speaking for the body.’”
Chloe’s Law was <a href="https://www.wyomingnews.com/laramieboomerang/news/chloe-s-law-becomes-law-july-1/article_4af7a64a-f136-11ee-9d1c-b39c89f88c92.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed into law</a> by Gordon in April 2024, although he had reservations, saying, “I signed SF99 because I support the protections this bill includes for children, however it is my belief that the government is straying into the personal affairs of families. Our legislature needs to sort out its intentions with regard to parental rights. While it inserts governmental prerogative in some places, it affirms parental rights in others.”

A woman who has served as the managing director for a radical transgender activist organization handles the same role for over two dozen mainstream major medical organizations, a watchdog group revealed Wednesday. 
Sue O’Sullivan of Veritas Association Management is the managing director of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and 26 other medical organizations across the United States, according to tax documents reviewed by the American Accountability Foundation. WPATH is a radical organization that has pushed for transgender medical procedures on children, including the removal of breasts for girls who identify as boys, and opposed laws to protect kids from such procedures. 
O’Sullivan is the <a href="https://veritasamc.com/team/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">co-founder</a> and president of Veritas Association Management, an Illinois-based professional services company that manages operations for dozens of mainstream medical organizations like the American Pediatric Surgical Association and the American Society of Andrology. 
<a href="https://americanaccountabilityfoundation.com/news/">The American Accountability Foundation</a> told The Daily Wire that the ties between O’Sullivan and WPATH could jeopardize the medical integrity of other organizations managed by Veritas Association Management. In total, the watchdog group identified 51 medical organizations or symposia that have some ties to Veritas.  
“Veritas Association Management’s entanglement with WPATH represents a serious reputational and ethical concern for organizations that engage its services. The medical association community should scrutinize Veritas’ role in legitimizing WPATH’s radical practices and consider the consequences of these relationships,” the American Accountability Foundation said in a report shared with The Daily Wire on its findings. 
The ties between WPATH and Veritas are well-established on both social media and the association management company’s website. 
For example, a Facebook post shows O’Sullivan and a team from Veritas attending WPATH’s October 2024 symposium in Portugal. 
“The 2024 World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) 28th Scientific Symposium, held in beautiful Lisbon, Portugal, was an amazing event!” the company <a href="https://www.facebook.com/amcveritas/posts/pfbid02jyN9CGXd4fkPHZPE6aeYujR5F9pwa1vnF1NtbQjeNMs5JxQVfjLFLW8HiKHuvvwEl">posted</a>. “Proudly managed by Veritas since 2014, WPATH promotes evidence-based transgender health care, education, research, and public policy, plus justice and equality for people of all gender identities and gender expressions.”

Veritas is also currently <a href="https://veritasamc.com/careers/wpath-executive-director/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advertising</a> for an executive director role for WPATH, whose duties include “leveraging Veritas resources to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the staff and administrative activities” and “advancing transgender health equity.” The position is listed as being based in East Dundee, Illinois, where Veritas Association Management is located. 
WPATH has opposed Republican-backed laws shielding kids from irreversible transgender medical procedures and put out a <a href="https://wpath.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/01.28.25-WPATH-Board-Statement-Regarding-Executive-Order.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> attacking President Donald Trump for his executive order directing all funding be cut off for entities that promote transgenderism for kids. 
O’Sullivan is listed on <a href="https://wpath.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/FINAL-Joint-WPATH-USPATH-Statement-On-Resumption-of-Medically-Necessary-Surgeries-During-COVID.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">multiple</a> WPATH documents pushing transgender procedures, including <a href="https://app.wpath.org/media/cms/Documents/Public%20Policies/2021/Joint%20WPATH%20USPATH%20Letter%20Dated%20Oct%2012%202021.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">putting</a> children on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. 
Tax documents analyzed by the American Accountability Foundation show that O’Sullivan spends eight times as much time working for WPATH than the other medical associations she manages or directs.  
WPATH’s IRS <a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/942675140/202413039349301991/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">form 990</a> for the fiscal year ending December 2023 shows that O’Sullivan is the organization’s managing director and reports spending eight hours per week in that role, which is more than the four weekly hours reported by WPATH President Marci Bowers. She only spends one hour a week for each of the other 26 medical organizations where she serves as either the managing or executive director, according to an analysis of tax documents by the American Accountability Foundation.
For example, O’Sullivan only reports working one hour per week for organizations like the <a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/237097289/202432409349301603/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">American Pediatric Surgical Association</a> or the <a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/383845227/202423209349325737/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Society of Ob Gyn Hospitalists</a> where she is listed as the managing director.

“As many of the organizations that contract with Veritas operate on relatively lean budgets with no (or few) in-house staff, Veritas Association Management substantially runs all day-to-day operations for many of these organizations. In fact, many organizations that contract with Veritas disclose in their tax filings that their boards have delegated all management to Veritas,” the American Accountability Foundation reported. 
After reaching out for comment to the Indian American Urological Association, the group told The Daily Wire that it ended its affiliation with Veritas last year.
The same <a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/942675140/202413039349301991/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">form 990</a> reveals that WPATH has handed over many organizational responsibilities to Veritas. Veritas has control of WPATH’s books and records in addition to having responsibility for “management duties.” 
In its report, the American Accountability Foundation identified 10 major medical organizations where O’Sullivan is either the managing director or the executive director who delegates management responsibilities to Veritas.
These groups included the American Association of Clinical Urologists, Society of Abdominal Radiology, Society for Vascular Medicine, Society of Thoracic Radiology, the North American Society for Cardiac Imaging, Society for Basic Urological Research, Ohio Urological Society, Society Of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons, the International Skeletal Society, and the American Pediatric Surgical Association Foundation. 
Many of these organizations list their address at the corporate address of Veritas Association Management. 
In its <a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/593243373/202410899349300416/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filing</a>, the American Pediatric Surgical Association Foundation noted that it “delegated control over management duties customarily performed by or under the direct supervision of officers, directors, trustees or key employees to Veritas Association Management, Inc.”
The Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, where O’Sullivan is listed as managing director, paid Veritas $<a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/223293645/202411379349301626/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">358,900</a> in 2023. Other Veritas clients where O’Sullivan is listed as managing or executive director include the American Venous Forum Foundation, which paid Veritas $<a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/363634626/202433209349324968/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">294,600;</a> the Society of OB/GYN Hospitalists, which paid $<a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/383845227/202423209349325737/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">167,200</a>; and the Society for Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology, which paid $<a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/461912833/202431389349301343/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">131,800</a>.
Other groups that Veritas says it is associated with include the Big XII Team Physicians (which a spokesman said is not officially affiliated with the Big XII conference), the Pediatric Pharmacy Association, and the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group.
Apart from WPATH, multiple other groups linked to O’Sullivan and Veritas Association Management have issued statements in support of so-called “gender-affirming care” for children or backing transgender ideology. 
For example, the American Pediatric Pharmacy Association <a href="https://www.ppag.org/?pg=PositionStatements" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsed</a> as its own position a <a href="https://publications.aap.org/aapnews/news/25340/AAP-reaffirms-gender-affirming-care-policy?autologincheck=redirected" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> from the American Academy of Pediatricians backing transgender medical procedures on kids. 
The American Pediatric Surgical Association also <a href="https://apsapedsurg.org/apsa-info/about-us/apsa-statements/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">points</a> visitors to its website to a letter from a number of Left-leaning medical organizations decrying proposals during the first Trump administration to define sex as only male and female. 
The American Accountability Foundation believes that these connections may lead to the radical transgender procedures advocated for by WPATH to be normalized in the medical mainstream. 
“Veritas’ client list includes mainstream medical associations, many of which may be unaware of the extent of Veritas’ involvement with WPATH,” the watchdog warned. “By managing these organizations alongside WPATH, Veritas risks mainstreaming and normalizing WPATH’s radical policies within the broader medical community.”
