House Republicans held the debut press conference of the Sharia Free America Caucus on Tuesday, warning that Islamic law is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution, and that its influence poses a growing threat to American law and culture.

Prominent members, including Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), emphasized the caucus’s mission as a defense of constitutional governance rather than a target against religious communities. Donalds declared, “Sharia has no place in America. We will not surrender our freedoms,” while Miller said she would “stand firmly against this radical ideology that seeks to uproot the constitutional principles and Christian values on which our nation was founded.”

Former Alabama Democratic Sen. Doug Jones is jumping into the state’s governor’s race, teeing up a rematch between him and Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville. The two first faced off in the 2020 U.S. Senate race, where Tuberville defeated Jones.
Jones was narrowly elected to the Senate in a 2017 special election against Republican Roy Moore, who was facing sexual misconduct accusations during his campaign. But three years later, he lost to Tuberville, who garnered more than 60% of the vote, compared to Jones&#8217;s 39.74% support. In 2022, Jones was the “sherpa” for Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson during her Senate confirmation, according to POLITICO, meaning he guided her through it.

Tuberville, the former Auburn University head football coach, announced in May that he would seek to become the next occupant of the Yellowhammer State’s Governor’s Mansion.
“Last time Doug Jones ran against Coach Tuberville, it didn’t go well for Doug,” Mallory Blount Jaspers, Tuberville’s communications director, posted to X.
“Coach has spent the past six months building coalitions across the state, securing endorsements from every key player in Alabama politics, and shattering fundraising records,” she added. “This race is already over — but if Comrade Doug wants to get blown out again, be our guest.”
The last Democratic governor of Alabama was Don Siegelman, who served from 1999 to 2003. If Jones were elected, he would presumably face hefty Republican majorities in both chambers of the Alabama Legislature. Thirty-six states will hold gubernatorial races next year, including highly competitive races in Arizona and Nevada.

A couple of GOP lawmakers called for MacDonough to be overruled after she ruled against <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/06/26/trump-tax-bill-medicaid-setback-senate/84367717007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">proposed changes</a> to Medicaid over the view that they do not comply with Senate rules for the budget reconciliation process being used to fast-track the legislation.

Republicans are working to pass the bill using the reconciliation process, which allows the Senate to bypass the 60-vote threshold for a filibuster. However, the parliamentarian determined proposals for Medicaid and other programs do not adhere to the <a href="https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/RL30862" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Byrd Rule</a>, which demands they stay focused on the budget.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) indicated that he did not plan to overrule MacDonough, <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2025/06/26/congress/john-thune-senate-parliamentarian-overrule-00425792" target="_blank" rel="noopener">telling</a> POLITICO, &#8220;No, that would not be a good option for getting a bill done.&#8221;

In years past, some Democrats also called for MacDonough to be overruled or fired after rulings in the reconciliation process did not go their way, like after the parliamentarian <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/02/26/senate-parliamentarian-minimum-wage-overrule/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rejected</a> a proposed minimum-wage increase in 2021 when they controlled the Senate and Joe Biden was president.
But, at the present time, Democrats are in the minority and depend on MacDonough&#8217;s assessments to stymie the GOP&#8217;s agenda.
&#8220;Democrats are continuing to make the case against every provision in this Big, Beautiful Betrayal of a bill that violates Senate rules and hurts families and workers,” <a href="https://www.budget.senate.gov/ranking-member/newsroom/press/byrd-rule-violations-continue-to-mount-on-the-republicans-one-big-beautiful-bill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Budget Committee Ranking Member Jeff Merkley (D-OR). “Democrats are fighting back against Republicans’ plans to gut Medicaid, dismantle the Affordable Care Act, and kick kids, veterans, seniors, and folks with disabilities off of their health insurance — all to fund tax breaks for billionaires. Republicans are scrambling to rewrite parts of this bill to continue advancing their families lose, and billionaires win agenda, but Democrats stand ready to fully scrutinize any changes and ensure the Byrd Rule is enforced.”
One GOP lawmaker in the House, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), pointed out that Republicans <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/02/26/senate-parliamentarian-minimum-wage-overrule/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">did fire</a> the parliamentarian in 2001 in a similar clash over budgetary matters and encouraged Thune to remove MacDonough from her perch now.
&#8220;This is not about partisanship, it is about rule of law. She has failed to apply the rules of reconciliation accurately on multiple occasions,&#8221; Crenshaw <a href="https://x.com/dancrenshawtx/status/1938264675486925184?s=46" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on X, adding that &#8220;the current parliamentarian has shown clear political bias, applying ideology and not the rules of the Senate.&#8221;
Crenshaw took particular issue with the parliamentarian&#8217;s ruling against his own proposal.
&#8220;There are many examples of this so far, but today was the final red line for me. She struck my provision that stops federal funding for gender transition procedures, claiming it doesn’t have budgetary impact and therefore is “out of order,&#8221; Crenshaw said. &#8220;The FACT is this provision absolutely has a direct budgetary impact. It amends Section 1903(i) of the Social Security Act, which governs federal payments under Medicaid. So MacDonough’s claim that it’s noncompliant on procedural grounds is absolutely wrong.&#8221;
He concluded: &#8220;This is bigger than one provision. It’s about the sanctity of the rules and laws we follow, and the importance of the position of the Head Parliamentarian, who must be an objective non-partisan who applies the rules with consistency, not ideology.&#8221;

Sen. Tommy Tuberville announced on Tuesday that he will run to be the next governor of Alabama.
Tuberville announced his gubernatorial bid from Byron’s Smokehouse in Auburn, Alabama, the same spot he announced his bid for U.S. Senate, his first run for elected office, in 2019. The former longtime college football coach enters the race as the favorite after other notable Republicans passed on entering the race.
“President Trump was a guy that really was behind me in doing the Senate race. He&#8217;s been behind me ever since. And, today, I will announce that I will be the future governor of the great state of Alabama,” Tuberville said during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Will Cain Show.”
Tuberville leaned into his ties to President Donald Trump during his announcement, though the president has yet to make an official endorsement in the Alabama race.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do nationally. I&#8217;m looking forward to that with President Trump. He&#8217;s got us on the right track,” Tuberville continued. “Meantime, I will be running every weekend, doing the things I need to do to make sure that I can get over the threshold and win this governor&#8217;s race, come back to Alabama, and work with President Trump … because he&#8217;s fully supportive of this, to keep making America great again and put Alabama first.”

Tuberville’s announcement has long been expected. Expectations about his eventual candidacy warded off other potential candidates. Republican Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth <a href="https://www.facebook.com/willainsworthAL/posts/pfbid023SfWC35cTtduT4jjN5pRKFnNsH2Q9bYWySrBrfQasKsrnk5ryw31Q8km1XTo7RTxl?rdid=aNURcE1tbwMlobVB#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> last week that he would be forgoing the opportunity to run.
The Alabama gubernatorial race will be to replace outgoing Republican Governor Kay Ivey, who is termed out.
Tuberville began his career in politics toppling Democratic former Sen. Doug Jones from the U.S. Senate in 2020. Jones won a 2017 special election to replace former Sen. Jeff Sessions, who had left the Senate to serve as Trump’s attorney general. Sessions ran to reclaim his old seat in 2020, but lost in the GOP primary to Tuberville.
As for who might replace Tuberville in the Senate, <a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/05/27/2025/gop-chatters-about-auburn-coach-bruce-pearl-for-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Semafor</a> on Tuesday reported that Auburn University&#8217;s men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl seems to be eyeing a run. Pearl is &#8220;an outspoken Israel supporter and opponent of antisemitism,&#8221; Semafor notes.

On Monday, Democrats in the GOP-led Senate blocked <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senate-to-consider-bill-to-protect-womens-sports" target="_blank" rel="noopener">legislation</a> that aims to protect women’s sports leagues in schools by trying to keep male athletes who identify as females from competing.
By a <a href="https://x.com/CraigCaplan/status/1896714793031188630" target="_blank" rel="noopener">51-45 vote</a>, a motion to invoke cloture on Sen. Tommy Tuberville&#8217;s (R-AL) &#8220;Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act&#8221; failed. A three-fifths majority — or 60 votes — was needed to cap debate and proceed to a final vote for passage sometime in the future.
&#8220;Senate Democrats just BLOCKED the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. Every Senate Republican supported it,&#8221; Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-WY) <a href="https://x.com/SenJohnBarrasso/status/1896713183030894826" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post to X. &#8220;Americans agree — men should not compete against women in sports. Democrats are out of touch on this common-sense issue.&#8221;
The <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/9/text?s=1&amp;r=1&amp;q=%7B%22search%22%3A%22Protection+of+Women+and+Girls+in+Sports+Act+of+2025%22%7D" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a> says it aims to &#8220;provide that for purposes of determining compliance with title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 in athletics, sex shall be recognized based solely on a person&#8217;s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.&#8221;
If enacted, the bill would amend Section 901 of the Education Amendments of 1972 by adding two provisions to the end:
<blockquote>(1) It shall be a violation of subsection (a) for a recipient of Federal funds who operates, sponsors, or facilitates athletic programs or activities to permit a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls.
(2) For purposes of this subsection, sex shall be recognized based solely on a person&#8217;s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.</blockquote>
&#8220;79% of Americans agree: men don’t belong in women’s sports,&#8221; Tuberville said in a <a href="https://x.com/SenTuberville/status/1894846092828713262" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> to X last week, citing the findings of a recent New York Times/Ipsos <a href="https://static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics/documenttools/a66cc1cd29a9ea2c/41386e22-full.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survey</a>. &#8220;I hope EVERY SENATOR will join me to PERMANENTLY restore Title IX protections and protect women and girls everywhere.&#8221;
In January, the GOP-led House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-again-passes-bill-to-protect-womens-sports" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> a variant of the &#8220;Protection of Women and Girls Act.&#8221; That bill, which came from Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL), got the support of two Democrats: Reps. Henry Cueller (D-TX) and Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX).
If the Senate managed to approve its own version of the legislation, the House would need to pass it, too. Or both chambers of Congress would have to compromise on legislation that might integrate aspects of each bill.
Opponents of such legislation have <a href="https://x.com/EqualityCaucus/status/1896722078944088239" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned</a> it would have invasive consequences, including &#8220;invasive physical inspections.&#8221; Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) <a href="https://x.com/cspan/status/1879228470900765057" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the House version of the legislation is supported by &#8220;bigoted folks,&#8221; &#8220;assaulters,&#8221; and CEOs.
President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/surrounded-by-young-female-athletes-donald-trump-bans-men-from-womens-sports" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an executive order in February geared toward keeping men out of women’s sports at schools that receive federal funding. The White House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/white-house-backs-tubervilles-womens-sports-legislation-ahead-of-senate-vote">released</a> a statement earlier on Monday that said the Trump administration &#8220;strongly&#8221; supported passage of Tuberville&#8217;s bill.
&#8220;Well, at least now the American people know the truth. Even after [Trump&#8217;s] landslide election, Democrats STILL support men competing in women’s sports,&#8221; Tuberville <a href="https://x.com/SenTuberville/status/1896721877399392348" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post to X after his bill was blocked in the procedural vote. &#8220;This is far from over. I’ll NEVER stop fighting to protect women and girls.&#8221;

WASHINGTON—Ahead of the Senate vote on legislation protecting women&#8217;s sports, the White House issued a statement supporting the bill, saying that it is an important move that complements the president&#8217;s executive order.
“The Administration strongly supports passage of S. 9, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025,&#8221; the White House statement said. &#8220;Through an amendment to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, this bill would expressly recognize what is already federal law—that it is an illegal act of discrimination for a man to participate in a federally funded athletic program or activity designated for women or girls.&#8221;
The White House also noted that the bill, introduced by Republican Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville, recognizes that the word &#8220;sex,&#8221; as &#8220;used in the statutory scheme, is based solely on reproductive biology and genetics.&#8221;
&#8220;Men participating in women’s sports not only is demeaning and dangerous to women and girls, but it erodes the integrity of our Nation’s civil rights laws,&#8221; the White House said. &#8220;Congress’s affirmative vote on this bill would complement both federal court rulings and President Trump’s February 5, 2025, Executive Order, ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.’”

On Monday evening, senators will vote on the legislation, which Tuberville introduced in January 2025. The House of Representatives passed similar legislation in January.
Both Tuberville and Trump have repeatedly pointed to polls showing that most Americans do not support men in women&#8217;s sports. The Alabama senator has condemned former President Joe Biden for taking a &#8220;sledgehammer to Title IX&#8221; and allowing men in women&#8217;s sports across the United States — a move that <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/sports/biological-females-have-lost-nearly-900-medals-trans-athletes-un-report">resulted in more than 900 women</a> losing trophies to men who identify as transgender women.
In early February, Trump signed an executive order banning men from competing in women’s sports, a significant moment in the fight to protect the integrity of women’s spaces from gender activists and ideologues.
“From now on,” he said to massive applause from those assembled, “women’s sports will be for only women.”
“With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over,” he added.
The order itself states that &#8220;it is the policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities, which results in the endangerment, humiliation, and silencing of women and girls and deprives them of privacy. It shall also be the policy of the United States to oppose male competitive participation in women’s sports more broadly, as a matter of safety, fairness, dignity, and truth.”
Tuberville&#8217;s legislation bolsters that order, and is particularly important, given that executive orders can be reversed by a subsequent administration.

Tuberville&#8217;s <a title="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-senate-gop-roll-out-bill-block-biological-men-participating-us-olympic-events-females" href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-senate-gop-roll-out-bill-block-biological-men-participating-us-olympic-events-females" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-senate-gop-roll-out-bill-block-biological-men-participating-us-olympic-events-females&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1738806705453000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2XYOlyFws9PHH9Uj7CKRiL">Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act</a> would prohibit any governing bodies recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) from permitting men to compete in athletic events intended for women, modifying eligibility requirements for amateur sports governing organizations.
It comes on National Girls and Women in Sports Day — the same day President Donald Trump will sign an executive order banning men from competing in women&#8217;s sports. The president will sign an executive order at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the White House, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/president-trump-to-sign-executive-to-keep-men-out-of-womens-sports">The Daily Wire first reported Tuesday</a>.
“Men should not be competing in women’s sports at any level,” Tuberville told The Daily Wire. “We were all deeply disturbed last summer to see videos of men boxing against women in the Olympics. This is not only dangerous but it is incredibly unfair to the young women who have trained their whole lives to compete.&#8221;
&#8220;Whether in little league or the Olympics, it’s unsafe, it’s unfair, and it’s just plain wrong,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I am proud to introduce this bill and hope to see it signed into law long before the United States hosts the 2028 Summer Olympics so we can all enjoy watching safe, fair competition.”
Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) introduced a House version of the bill, arguing that it is &#8220;more important than ever that we stand up for common sense by prohibiting biological males from competing in female athletics.&#8221;
“From the swimming pool to the boxing ring, far-left activists have hijacked the rulebook to push their extremist agenda onto sports governing bodies,&#8221; he told The Daily Wire. &#8220;Not only is this antithetical to the principles of fair competition, but it constitutes a direct assault on the future of women’s sports altogether.”
The effort is supported by a broad coalition of advocates fighting for the integrity of women&#8217;s spaces, including Riley Gaines, the 12-time NCAA All-American Swimmer forced to compete against a male athlete. She praised Tuberville&#8217;s and Steube&#8217;s efforts in a statement, saying, &#8220;They have made it clear that they will fight for fairness, privacy, and safety for girls and women in sports.&#8221;
Terr Schilling, president of the American Principles Project, similarly emphasized that &#8220;it&#8217;s obvious that men do not belong in women&#8217;s sports.&#8221;
&#8220;Yet despite the overwhelming support for this position among the American people, too many sports bodies still allow men who claim to be women to compete against female athletes,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This is incredibly unfair to women, and it needs to end.&#8221;

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/department-of-defense" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Department of Defense</a> ended a Biden-era policy that paid for women in the military to travel for abortions if they were in a state with pro-life laws in place.
The DOD <a href="https://media.defense.gov/2025/Jan/29/2003634768/-1/-1/0/UTD_FOR_MAP_04-25%28S%29_REMOVE-TRAVEL-FOR-NON-COVERED-REPRODUCTIVE-HEALTH-CARE-SERVICES.PDF">rescinded</a> the abortion travel policy on Wednesday, citing an executive order from President Donald Trump to make sure there was no taxpayer funding for abortion. The Biden policy paid for the travel, lodging, and food expenses of a woman seeking an abortion if she was stationed in a state banning abortion.
The DOD has not disclosed how frequently the policy was used, though it was in place for over two years and enacted shortly after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), who put a hold on military promotions en masse for nearly a year due to the policy, celebrated the news.
&#8220;For the past two years, I have been sounding the alarm about the Pentagon&#8217;s illegal and immoral practice of using taxpayer dollars to fund abortions,” he said. “I took a lot of heat when I stood alone for nearly a year in holding senior Pentagon promotions over this —  but as of today, it was all worth it. The Biden administration treated taxpayers like their own personal Piggy bank that they could use to bankroll their woke agenda.”
“Under President Trump and Secretary Hegseth&#8217;s leadership, the Pentagon will once again be focused on lethality, not pushing a political agenda,” he added. “Thank God common sense has been restored to our military under President Trump&#8217;s leadership.”
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth thanked Tuberville on social media for his efforts to fight the policy.

The decision was widely criticized by Democrats, including Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), who called the move from the Pentagon &#8220;abhorrent.&#8221; 
“It runs contrary to a core goal of the Department of Defense — to ensure the health and well-being of all our service members so that our force remains ready at all times to protect Americans and keep this nation safe,” she said.
The announcement came after Trump signed an executive order last week mandating compliance with the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer dollars from going to abortion, saying that the Biden “administration disregarded this established, commonsense policy by embedding forced taxpayer funding of elective abortions in a wide variety of Federal programs.”

Alabama Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville is calling on the National Institutes of Health to explain why one of its researchers intentionally withheld data on the negative effects of puberty blockers on American children.
Last month, Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/23/science/puberty-blockers-olson-kennedy.html">revealed to The New York Times</a> that she purposefully stopped the publication of a $10 million taxpayer-funded study into puberty blockers and their effects on American children. Olson-Kennedy had hoped the study would show that puberty blockers improve children’s mental health, and her study found no evidence that this was the case.
“I do not want our work to be weaponized,” said Olson-Kennedy, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/celebrated-trans-doctor-sued-for-medical-negligence-over-removal-of-14-year-old-girls-breasts">was sued just last week</a> by a teenage detransitioner. “It has to be exactly on point, clear and concise. And that takes time.”
Tuberville, along with Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), <a href="https://www.tuberville.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/tuberville-exposes-nih-cover-up-of-dangers-of-using-puberty-blockers-on-children/">called on the NIH to explain</a> Olson-Kennedy&#8217;s actions, since she was funded by the agency.
&#8220;We remain concerned that minors lack the ability to fully understand the lifelong outcomes of the interventions studied in this project and provide their consent,&#8221; the senators wrote. &#8220;Further, taxpayers have the right to know the outcomes of the research they fund, particularly when the intervention studied has life-altering impacts.”
In a phone interview with The Daily Wire this week, Tuberville slammed the NIH for &#8220;withholding all the data from the American public about puberty blockers.&#8221;
&#8220;At the end of the day, they don&#8217;t improve mental health of children and they&#8217;re trying to prove that it did,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s just another insane idea that the Left has had &#8230; they want to create a war over gender and we&#8217;re not going to fall for it right now.&#8221;

The Alabama Republican argued that Americans deserve to know where every one of their taxpayer dollars goes, warning that gender activists are &#8220;trying to hide everything that they&#8217;re doing when it comes to gender.&#8221;
President Donald Trump has suggested he will be open to protecting children from these irreversible transgender procedures, and Tuberville emphasized to The Daily Wire that Trump has made it very clear to the public that he is against gender ideology and its impacts on children. Tuberville specifically pointed to Trump&#8217;s statements supporting the fight to keep men out of women&#8217;s sports.
&#8220;Totally against it,&#8221; Tuberville said of Trump. &#8220;He&#8217;s gonna have to find some kind of avenue in which to put a stop to all this madness because we&#8217;re losing women&#8217;s sports, right and left. We&#8217;re losing scholarships for women. We&#8217;re gonna have young women not getting into the sports at all.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s just on and on nonsense that continues to be brought to life by the Left,&#8221; he remarked, commenting on how the Trump campaign &#8220;hammered&#8221; gender ideology so effectively in the last few months of the campaign. &#8220;I think it had a big difference with a lot of people&#8217;s late decision on the election.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;d be 100% for, for banning anything with minors,&#8221; the Alabama senator said. &#8220;There&#8217;s no reason for any parent to have the right to have their kids gender transitioned, before they reach the age of 18 or 19 years old. You&#8217;re starting to see a lot of young people that are, whether it&#8217;s a lawsuit or whatever, saying, &#8216;Why did I do this to myself? Why did my parents allow this to happen?'&#8221;
Asked if he thinks a bill banning transgender procedures for children could make it through the Senate, Tuberville replied, &#8220;Oh, I don&#8217;t think it would get 60 votes.&#8221;
&#8220;I had two votes my first year here on the floor about men and women&#8217;s sports and I didn&#8217;t get all the Republicans votes. Joe Manchin voted with me, but I didn&#8217;t get all the Republican votes. It was heartbreaking to me, just to watch anybody that would vote against that. But again, you know, it was a big part of the Democrat agenda.&#8221;
The NIH did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tuberville Slams Activist Doctor, NIH For Hiding Negative Effects of Puberty Blockers

Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville argued Monday that his Republican Senate colleagues who oppose president-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s nominees are defying the wishes of their own constituents, who flocked to the polls for Trump.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t understand it,&#8221; he said in a Monday phone interview with The Daily Wire. &#8220;The American people gave him a mandate. This is his team now. He needs the opportunity to put the people around him that are gonna help him with his agenda. Who are we to say that we know more about these people than Trump?&#8221;
There&#8217;s quite a few senators who are not fans of Trump, he noted, including several Republicans.
&#8220;I went through the first process with Biden when I first got here,&#8221; he added. &#8220;There were zero Democrats that voted against any of his nominees. Zero. We got three or four of these nominees fighting to get all the Republican votes. They&#8217;re fighting hard and they&#8217;re having to go see senators more than once. It makes no sense to me whatsoever.&#8221;
Tuberville appeared to refer to Pete Hegseth&#8217;s <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5030684-hegseth-ernst-pentagon-confirmation-fight/">second meeting</a> with Republican Sen. Joni Ernst (IA) on Monday. Hegseth has been one of Trump&#8217;s most controversial picks, facing an avalanche of allegations from Democrats and the media about sexual misconduct and excessive drinking. Tuberville argued that since Trump had hand picked his nominees himself, Trump deserves to have Republicans back his choices.
&#8220;We&#8217;ve got people in the Republican side, for some reason they&#8217;re trying to push the envelope too much,&#8221; he remarked. &#8220;I&#8217;m gonna take President Trump&#8217;s word that the people he picked are vetted and they&#8217;re the type of people that he needs but it&#8217;s just hard to watch what&#8217;s going on up here because it&#8217;s Republicans versus the Democrats and the media and they gang up on us up here.&#8221;

&#8220;But again, everybody&#8217;s got to make their own decision,&#8221; he commented. &#8220;These senators that are representing these states that President Trump won very easily, I think that to me that says, hey, give him the team he wants and let him go with it because we&#8217;re not gonna have very long. We&#8217;re gonna have a 2 years. It&#8217;s gonna be very tough and he needs people fighting for him on every side to beat the Democrats, right?&#8221;
Ernst <a href="https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/2024/12/09/ernst-says-she-will-support-hegseth-secretary-of-defense-nomination-process-trump/76866766007/">said Monday evening</a> that she would &#8220;support Pete&#8221; through the confirmation process.
Asked why Democrats display such unity in getting their president&#8217;s nominees through, while Republicans do not, Tuberville commented: &#8220;I&#8217;d say the leadership.&#8221;
&#8220;You got leadership in the Democratic side that basically says you vote this way or it&#8217;s gonna be the highway. You won&#8217;t get any campaign money or you&#8217;re gonna be, you&#8217;re gonna be primaried. On our side, you&#8217;re your own person, which you should be. But for instance, I represent the people of Alabama. I don&#8217;t represent me and the people sent me up here and I looked at the amount of votes that President Trump got out of Alabama&#8230;I&#8217;m on President Trump&#8217;s side.&#8221;
Tuberville also met with Trump&#8217;s nominee for Education Secretary, Linda McMahon, ahead of his conversation with The Daily Wire. He said that he was &#8220;enthusiastic about her approach,&#8221; and emphasizing the need for real education within the United States following years of woke, racial, and ideological content in schools.
&#8220;We gotta get back to teaching and educating our kids and give them a chance to survive,&#8221; he said, &#8220;and she&#8217;s totally on board with that. She understands it. We talked about school choice, we talk about homeschool, we talk about workforce development, higher education, I could talk all day about education because that&#8217;s pretty much what I&#8217;ve done my entire life. So, we&#8217;re going to work with her very hard and hopefully we can make things work and get better and better and get our kids back to being educated.&#8221;

Republicans ripped into the agency for the post, saying that President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration could not come soon enough. Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-pledged-to-stop-dei-and-fire-woke-bureaucrats-heres-how-he-can-do-it" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has promised</a> to bring sweeping reform to the federal government and eliminate politically motivated bureaucrats. 
“Today on Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day, everyone deserves to feel seen, respected and supported—no matter who they love,” the HHS posted on X. “Create a world where everyone feels proud to be themselves!”

The post quickly drew criticism from conservatives, including GOP politicians and key Trump allies.

“Switch this to &#8216;Lower Healthcare Costs Day&#8217; &amp; we’d be making progress,” wrote tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Trump has tasked Ramaswamy to work with Elon Musk to find ways to cut down on government waste and inefficiency through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). 
“Classic government tactic: blow ‘woke smoke’ to trick progressives into forgetting how much their own policies are screwing over all Americans (including even them). [HHS] should be focused on improving health outcomes &amp; reducing cost, not promoting ‘Panromantic Pride Day,’” Ramaswamy added. 
“I can’t wait until President Trump is back in office,” Americans Principles Project Director Terry Schilling said. 
Trump has nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead HHS during his administration. Kennedy has promised to focus on combating chronic health issues, obesity, and restoring trust in the department.

Moments earlier, Bartiromo noted Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) would be <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/05/us/politics/hakeem-jeffries-biden-democrats.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">having a call</a> with fellow leading House Democrats to discuss Biden and the 2024 race. She then asked Tuberville for his reaction to the crisis of confidence that Biden is facing from members of his own party.
&#8220;This has been a disgrace. It&#8217;s been a disgrace for 3.5 years,&#8221; Tuberville replied. &#8220;We have been talking to our Democratic colleagues in the Senate. They know what&#8217;s going on. Mainstream media has hid all this. Now they&#8217;re panicking and wondering what they&#8217;re going to do. They put the early debate just in case this happened. Well, it did happen.&#8221;
Biden &#8220;doesn&#8217;t know what day it is,&#8221; Tuberville said. &#8220;It&#8217;s unfortunate for Joe Biden. He&#8217;s sick. Nobody can help that. People do get old. They do get sick. But this is all about the Democrats&#8217; power, they&#8217;re continuing to remain in power.&#8221;
Tuberville added, &#8220;Kamala Harris will probably be the candidate running against Donald Trump. That will be very interesting.&#8221;
As the conversation went on, Bartiromo asked Tuberville about conversations in the Senate about Biden&#8217;s mental fitness, to which Tuberville argued Biden is no longer in charge.

&#8220;So, hopefully, people understand that,&#8221; he added. &#8220;They have had total control, not the president, but Schumer and Pelosi and all the deep state. The deep state has total control of this. And, hopefully, we can get control of it and get the Democrats out of control and get Trump and all the Republicans running this country.&#8221;
