Entertainment outlet TMZ received an unverified ransom letter that demands millions in bitcoin for the release of Nancy Guthrie, the missing 84-year-old mother of “The Today Show” host Savannah Guthrie.
<a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/02/03/nancy-guthrie-alleged-ransom-note-bitcoin-millions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TMZ</a> got the note Tuesday morning and reported that it demands the cryptocurrency be sent to a specific Bitcoin address. TMZ verified the Bitcoin address is real. There is a deadline connected to the alleged ransom&#8230; in addition to an &#8220;element of or else.&#8221;
The outlet reports the note also described an item that was damaged at her Tucson-area home in Catalina Hills. TMZ contacted authorities at the Pima County Sheriff&#8217;s Office.
The Sheriff&#8217;s Office posted on X, &#8220;We are aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie.&#8221;

At a press conference Tuesday morning, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos didn&#8217;t have an update; instead, he went straight to fielding questions.
When asked about blood in the home, which several outlets reported on Tuesday, citing anonymous sources, Nanos said he couldn&#8217;t provide verification. Nanos didn&#8217;t say whether officials believe Guthrie was targeted or the crime was random.

Officials haven&#8217;t reviewed any camera footage yet as the cameras are still being processed. The front camera on Nancy&#8217;s house is notably not in the holder anymore — but Nanos said Tuesday he currently has no plan to release the footage even after it has been reviewed.
Authorities also said the crime scene at Nancy&#8217;s house has been cleared and turned over to the family. <a href="https://x.com/BrianEntin/status/2018798856734183528?s=20">NewsNation</a> showed video Tuesday evening of what appeared to be blood spots on the front steps of Nancy&#8217;s home.
Former police captain and Byrna Law Enforcement Director Joshua Schirard said that, in his experience, clearing crime scenes can sometimes take weeks.
&#8220;So to clear a crime scene in the matter of 24 hours or less tells me that there&#8217;s a little bit more targeted search than they&#8217;re letting on,&#8221; Schirard said. &#8220;Either that or there just is nothing to process there, which is kind of hard to believe at this point. I think that moving forward, we&#8217;re going to see that hopefully that they&#8217;ve identified at least a person of interest at this point and are trying to verify that with the physical evidence that they found on the scene.&#8221;
The scene at Nancy&#8217;s home was described by authorities as &#8220;concerning.&#8221; Still, because of the ongoing investigation, Nanos wouldn&#8217;t give any description of what made the house a crime scene.

Officials are still encouraging the public to call in anything suspicious in the area of Catalina Hills from late Saturday into Sunday morning.
Time is of the essence in this investigation as Nancy cannot go more than 24 hours without her medication, per authorities.
The FBI is on site now helping local authorities. Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the FBI in Tucson, John Edwards, said the FBI is doing everything in its power to bring Nancy home. The agency is analyzing cell phone data and cell tower information, assisting with interviews, and providing local authorities with analytical and technical support.
The Sheriff assured reporters at the Tuesday presser that if anything major happens in the case, there will be another media briefing, but the plan is to hold another press conference Thursday.
President Trump commented on the situation in the White House Tuesday, saying, &#8220;I think it’s a terrible thing. I always got along very good with Savannah. Very unusual situation, but we’re going to find out.&#8221;

Today Show host Savannah Guthrie is asking everyone to pray for her mother&#8217;s return as the search for Nancy Guthrie continues.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said he believes Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home over the weekend in a &#8220;possible kidnapping or abduction&#8221; just outside of Tucson, Arizona. Nanos told <a href="https://www.today.com/news/savannah-guthrie-mom-missing-arizona-rcna257021">NBC News</a> on Monday that Nancy was taken from her bed, but he later clarified he meant figuratively.
Information remains limited during the active investigation, which Nanos is calling a crime. Sources told <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/savannah-guthrie-mother-nancy-blood-home/">CBS News</a> on Tuesday that blood was found in Nancy&#8217;s home. It&#8217;s not clear whose blood it is, but CBS reports it is being tested.
Nanos confirmed that possible DNA is being tested as well.
&#8220;We took some samples that we hope will have enough profile of a DNA profile that gives us some identification of what we’re looking at,&#8221; Nanos told NBC News.

The sheriff added it could be days before there is any conclusive evidence from the DNA samples.
In another development, the <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-02-03/blood-inside-home-nancy-guthrie-today-host-savannah-guthrie-mother">Los Angeles Times</a> is reporting signs of forced entry into Nancy&#8217;s house.
Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie spoke out on Instagram late Monday, asking for prayers to bring her mom home, as this troubling case unfolds.
&#8220;We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,&#8221; Savannah wrote.
&#8220;Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. We need you.&#8221;
The Today Show host added the following Bible verse, &#8220;He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord,&#8221; before concluding, &#8220;Bring her home.&#8221;
Savannah&#8217;s mother was reported missing on Sunday, around noon, after a church friend called Nancy&#8217;s family, letting them know she didn&#8217;t show up for service.

Nancy&#8217;s belongings, including her phone, wallet, and car, were all still at the house in the Catalina Foothills just north of Tucson.
The sheriff added that Nancy isn’t in good physical health but has &#8220;no cognitive issues,&#8221; is &#8220;very alert,&#8221; and is &#8220;very sound of mind.&#8221;
Police do not know at this time if Nancy was targeted because she is Savannah’s mother, and added they aren&#8217;t aware of threats aimed at Savannah after speaking with her, per NBC.
Nanos said in a press conference on Monday that he doesn&#8217;t think the public is in danger.
&#8220;So we make a plea to anyone who knows anything about this, who has seen something, heard something, to contact us,&#8221; Nanos said. &#8220;Call 911. We don’t need another bad, tragic ending. We need some help.&#8221;
Pima County Sheriff&#8217;s Office officials are holding a press conference on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. ET to give an update on this case.

‘Bring Her Home’: Savannah Guthrie Pleads For Mother’s Return After ‘Abduction’

The Today Show&#8217;s Savannah Guthrie delivers the news to millions every morning, but her own life became the headline when her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing on Sunday from her Arizona home outside of Tucson, Arizona.
Local authorities called off the search and rescue mission Monday morning and are now investigating Nancy&#8217;s house as a crime scene.
&#8220;We do in fact have a crime scene, we do in fact have a crime,&#8221; Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said at the press conference Monday.
Evidence gathered during the ongoing investigation in the 84-year-old&#8217;s home suggests Nancy did not leave on her own. Authorities are reviewing camera footage at her house.
&#8220;So we make a plea to anyone who knows anything about this, who has seen something, heard something, to contact us,&#8221; Nanos said. &#8220;Call 911. We don&#8217;t need another bad, tragic ending. We need some help.&#8221;
Nanos said the community needs to check their cameras and see if they have seen anything that at first didn&#8217;t look suspicious, but now the Sheriff said you should know it is suspicious.
Authorities have Nancy&#8217;s cell phone, and officials added that her family, including Savannah, are in Arizona and fully cooperating with authorities.
The Sheriff added that Nancy isn&#8217;t in good physical health but has &#8220;no cognitive issues&#8221; and is &#8220;very alert&#8221; and &#8220;very sound of mind.&#8221;
Savannah released this statement on The Today Show on Monday.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520) 351-4900.”
Nanos described Nancy as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds. The 84-year-old has brown hair and blue eyes. The last time her family saw her was at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Nanos said the family was alerted that Nancy wasn&#8217;t at church Sunday morning, and after a brief search for her, the family alerted authorities.
Nanos said the public is not in danger.
According to The Today Show, Savannah has often described her close relationship with her mother, and Nancy would make appearances on the national morning show from time to time. Per the outlet, her father, Charles, died when Savannah was 16 years old, leaving Nancy as a single mother of Savannah and her two siblings.
Nanos said when they get more information, they will let the public know.

“Today” show’s Hoda Kotb definitely got everyone’s attention when she announced she was leaving as host to focus on raising her two kids after nearly three decades on NBC News.
On Thursday, the 60-year-old NBC host said that when she celebrated turning 60 last month, it prompted her to make a change in her lifestyle and that was stepping down as host and spending more time with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, the “<a href="https://www.today.com/news/hoda-kotb-leaving-today-show-rcna172812">Today</a>” show reported.
&#8220;I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60, and to try something new,&#8221; Kotb said. &#8220;I remembered standing outside looking at these beautiful bunch of people with these gorgeous signs, and I thought, &#8216;This is what the top of the wave feels like for me.'&#8221;
“And I thought it can&#8217;t get better, and I decided that this is the right time for me to kind of move on,” she added. &#8220;Obviously, I had my kiddos late in life, and I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of my time pie that I have. I feel like we only have a finite amount of time.”

Kotb, who has spent 26 years at NBC News, said she won’t be leaving until the first part of next year, but will always be part of the NBC family, the outlet noted.

Comedian Larry David was scheduled to appear on Thursday morning&#8217;s broadcast of the &#8220;TODAY&#8221; show on NBC — but he crashed the set a bit early, shocking hosts when he burst onto the scene and physically assaulted another guest, the &#8220;Sesame Street&#8221; Muppet, Elmo.
Elmo joined the show after an X post about emotional well-being garnered a lot of attention — and the hosts wanted to continue that conversation. David, however, apparently had only one thing on his mind.

They have been putting on an act, appearing on red carpets together, showing public displays of affection, and preaching to the rest of us how we should live our lives. The purpose of Jada’s show “Red Table Talk” was to bring people’s lives to the table. She wanted to talk about the real, the honest, and the straightforward. Yet there is nothing brave or straightforward in anything she’s demonstrated other than her ability to lie to the masses for years.

It’s baffling that Jada has been this fraudulent — that she’s smiled in everyone’s faces and inserted herself as an authority in people’s lives. Marriage and vows have meaning — no matter how much Hollywood tries to tell the masses that they don’t. Despite their vows, Will and Jada opted for the progressive route, remained married, and slept with other people, which is exactly what Jada confessed in 2020. She had carried on an affair with August Alsina, a rapper in his early twenties who was friends with her son. Absolutely disgusting. It’s despicable. And there’s no way to measure the impact that’s had on the mentality of their children.
August has quite a different appearance than Will; he is not as clean cut. But based on all Jada has shared about herself, from her lifestyle to her upbringing, this affair makes sense. Jada Pinkett Smith is for the streets. Everything she has ever told about herself indicates she wants someone a little “harder” than Will Smith, which also explains some of her obsession with Tupac — who she has continued to talk about for years following his death. She still holds a torch for him, and Will even said in his own book that he was jealous of the special bond she had with Tupac. She wants to be part of the thug life while at the same time attempting to convince everyone to just be open and honest. 
In 2020, Jada invited Will on a “Red Table Talk” episode in which she essentially told the public that her affair was totally acceptable because Will hadn’t been doing the things he needed to do as a man. I can’t imagine any man agreeing to sit down and do this publicly, but for some reason, Will Smith did. In that episode, he says he will “stand by my baby no matter what,” followed by Jada’s explanation that she doesn’t “look at it as a transgression at all.”
Meanwhile, I look at it as Will Smith being officially spayed and neutered. We have watched the spaying and neutering of Will Smith for the last year, formerly a man who people looked up to as an actor but now a guy who does not have an ounce of manhood left in him. He continues to allow this vile creature to publicly humiliate, embarrass, and shame him. To be clear, I don’t excuse him from any of this. He has obviously agreed to have this relationship, or, lack thereof; they have both continued to maintain appearances in the public eye. But there is nothing left of Will Smith. Jada isn’t a wife, and he isn’t a husband. These words <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/splitting-finances-stop-normalizing-marriages-that-function-like-divorce" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have sacred meaning</a>, which represent a union that happens under God. But <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/and-they-did-not-live-happily-ever-after-a-modern-love-story" target="_blank" rel="noopener">not in Hollywood</a>.
Hollywood is riddled with frauds. They are everywhere, and we continue to see just how fraudulent they are able to be. The idea that people in Hollywood are aspirational is absurd. Longtime &#8220;Today&#8221; show host Al Roker said he&#8217;s &#8220;glad to be alive&#8221; as he celebrated another trip around the sun this weekend following multiple hospitalizations that kept him off the air for weeks.

&#8220;You lose a certain amount of muscle mass for every week you&#8217;re in the hospital, and I was in the hospital for four weeks,&#8221; Roker explained. &#8220;It&#8217;s just a certain amount of weakness. I&#8217;m doing physical therapy every day, occupational therapy. I&#8217;ve got to just get my strength back.&#8221;
On Thanksgiving, Roker posted photos on Instagram celebrating that he was out of the hospital after a blood clot in his leg &#8220;sent some clots into&#8221; his lungs.

&#8220;Today&#8221; show contributor Jill Martin opened up about her battle with breast cancer and how her recovery is going after she underwent a double mastectomy weeks after being <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/jill-martin-returns-today-says-191231081.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">diagnosed</a> in mid-July.
The 47-year-old lifestyle contributor on the morning show said she&#8217;s doing &#8220;okay&#8221; physically after the surgery while noting that emotionally she&#8217;s been on a &#8220;roller coaster,&#8221; calling the last six weeks &#8220;earth-shattering.&#8221;
&#8220;I had an aggressive tumor removed, and my surgeon, Dr. Elisa Port, removed 18 lymph nodes, one of which was cancerous,&#8221; Martin wrote in a <a href="https://www.today.com/health/jill-martin-double-mastectomy-surgery-update-rcna98163" target="_blank" rel="noopener">personal essay</a>.
&#8220;They actually test the nodes in real time, so I found out the results of the biopsy when I woke up from the four-hour surgery,&#8221; she added. &#8220;There is always a small possibility that cancerous cells could have escaped, so the rest of the meeting was dedicated to planning out my long road ahead, and what the doctor suggests I do to prevent this insidious disease from coming back.&#8221;

The NBC morning show contributor also thanked those who have shared their support after she revealed her breast cancer diagnosis, which she said was not detected from those annual checkups but instead from genetic testing. She tested positive for the BRCA2 gene, the gene linked to a significantly higher possibility of developing ovarian or breast cancer, <a href="https://people.com/jill-martin-breast-cancer-double-mastectomy-health-update-7570463" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People magazine</a> noted.
&#8220;I received so many DMs, texts, emails, and calls,&#8221; Martin wrote. &#8220;Strangers came up to me on the street saying, &#8220;&#8216;Can I please add you to my prayer list?&#8217; or, &#8216;I am going to get tested because of your story.&#8217; I didn&#8217;t realize how important genetic testing was on both the mother and the father’s side of the family.&#8221;
She talked about how the hardest thing has been watching her family &#8220;Watch me go through this. It shakes a family and a household. The past three weeks have felt like a lifetime.&#8221;
Martin said this week she will meet with her doctor to learn what&#8217;s next in this process. She said she already knows she will have a full hysterectomy to &#8220;decrease the risk of ovarian cancer&#8221; due to &#8220;fibroid issues in the past&#8221; and said she&#8217;ll have to &#8220;take anti-hormonal drugs for 5 years.&#8221;
&#8220;I will most likely need chemotherapy because of the aggressiveness of the tumor,&#8221; Martin wrote. &#8220;That is the part that hit me the hardest — the idea of chemo.&#8221;
The host admitted that she&#8217;s &#8220;still in a state of shock&#8221; because everything has happened so fast, but she&#8217;s &#8220;choosing to fight.&#8221;
&#8220;Cancer has knocked me down. It has,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I used to jump out of bed every day to begin work, but now every day is a choice. Do I feel like staying under the covers and crying? Yes. Every day. But I did that when I first started recovery &#8230; and little by little, like today, I am choosing to get up. I am choosing to fight.&#8221;

&#8220;So Haley wants to wear a mid-drift. She asked me about a mid-drift,&#8221; Kotb said, per <a href="https://people.com/hoda-kotb-daughter-haley-interested-wearing-crop-top-7511006">People</a>.
&#8220;A crop top? She said, &#8216;Can I wear a crop top?'&#8221; co-host Jenna Bush Hager replied.

&#8220;I had this internal bleeding going on. I lost half my blood,&#8221; Roker explained. &#8220;And they were trying to figure out where it was. And finally, they went in, did the surgery. I had two bleeding ulcers.&#8221;
Roker said doctors ended up having to resection his colon, take out his gallbladder, and more.
He joked he &#8220;went in for one operation [and] got four free.&#8221;
