Joe Biden&#8217;s illegal immigration crisis is real, and it is growing by leaps and bounds.
In 2023, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, there were <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/01/09/opinion/immigration-in-one-chart.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">3.1 million</a> attempted border crossings at the U.S. southern border, and 600,000 of those people entered undetected. That is an estimate by CBP. Those would be the known getaways.
We have no idea how many unknown gateways there are, yet we know illegal immigrants came because there is camera coverage of large swaths of the American border.
But we don&#8217;t always have Border Patrol agents who are sitting on every single camera all the time. The way it works is, border cameras are, essentially, loaded onto giant pylons, and four of them are pointed in all directions. But a Border Patrol agent who&#8217;s in charge of 20 cameras may not see some people when they rush into the country while he’s on a bathroom break.
According to a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/21/us/politics/cbp-record-border-crossings.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a> chart, you had a minimum of 2.4 million people who crossed the U.S. on the border in 2023. Now, understand, by way of contrast, that during the entirety of the Trump administration, the number of border encounters during the Trump administration was 1.6 million.

None of those 2.4 million people are going away. Once people are brought into the United States and they&#8217;re given a date to show up later, the vast majority of them never do — because why would they? They&#8217;ve been integrated into American society. They&#8217;re receiving whatever benefits they can.
They just stay. That is what Joe Biden has done. There were executive orders in place under Donald Trump that prevented a lot of this, not only including Title 42, but also most prominently the Remain in Mexico program (the Migrant Protection Protocols). This program denoted that if someone showed up at the border and said, “I fear to go back to my home country,” the Trump administration said, “OK, wait in Mexico; we&#8217;ll figure it out. We have to process you. You need to wait in Mexico, which means you&#8217;re not going to be released into the interior because there is a good chance you will have to show up for your court case and then you would be rejected. In the meantime, you can&#8217;t just disappear in Chicago or New York or Atlanta or Denver or wherever.”
But Biden got rid of that immediately.
So many illegal immigrants are now arriving on the east coast of New York where they&#8217;re being stored on football fields. And when there&#8217;s bad weather, they have to be moved somewhere. So in Brooklyn, a school was legitimately shut down. The students were told to learn from home because the school facilities had to be used to house illegal immigrants.
It is the responsibility of the American government to protect America&#8217;s borders. A country without borders is obviously not a country.
I recently went down to the border. The situation on the border is a full-scale disaster area. Border Patrol agents are being told not to actually police the border. They&#8217;re essentially acting as a ferry service for illegal immigrants, which is why we now have the amazing spectacle of illegal immigrants crossing the border and then sitting around while complaining the Border Patrol isn&#8217;t showing up fast enough.
If Biden wanted to end the border crisis tomorrow, he could probably do so with a couple of executive orders. He&#8217;s not doing any of that.
The immediate need is to close the border and then figure out what the hell to do with the people here. The need is to tighten up what it means to be a person who should receive asylum.
As Steven Rattner notes in the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/01/09/opinion/immigration-in-one-chart.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a>, “We also may need to further limit the use of humanitarian parole, a problem expanded by the Biden administration that allows more migrants from places like Venezuela and Nicaragua to temporarily enter the country and apply for relief. As heartbreaking as it may be, we simply cannot take every refugee from every failed state.”

Decrying the “open border” policies of the Biden administration has been a constant theme for Republicans during the last three years. Little changed in 2023 with the influx of illegal immigrants continuing strong as Border Patrol encountered roughly more people at the southern border than the population of the entire state of New Mexico.
According to official statistics from Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol had 2,240,056 encounters with foreign nationals from all other the world at the southern border in 2023. This includes official recorded encounters by CBP from January to November, and <a href="https://twitter.com/BillMelugin_/status/1740760905569460246" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> numbers for December.

The total number of reported encounters is greater than the <a href="https://worldpopulationreview.com/states" target="_blank" rel="noopener">populations</a> (on an individual level, not total) of 15 states including Wyoming, Vermont, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Delaware, Rhode Island, Montana, Maine, New Hampshire, Hawaii, West Virginia, Idaho, Nebraska, and New Mexico. 
This includes roughly 31,458 individuals from China, 137,389 individuals from Colombia, 63,135 from Cuba, 106,635 from Ecuador, 59,693 from El Salvador, 225,998 from Guatemala, 69,095 from Haiti, 213,853 from Honduras, 41,134 from India, 671,128 from Mexico, 16,690 from Nicaragua, 55, 276 from Peru, 29,449 from Russia, 14,135 from Turkey, and 302,736 from Venezuela. 
In 2023, videos of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/massive-migrant-caravan-marches-toward-u-s-as-top-biden-officials-meet-with-mexican-president" target="_blank" rel="noopener">massive caravans</a> heading toward the U.S. continued to circulate showing that many still see the border as open even as the Biden administration worked to block state efforts to protect their own sovereignty. The year saw everything from the expiration of Title 42 to the release of hundreds of thousands of foreign nationals into the U.S. 
Below are the biggest trendlines in the continuing border crisis from the last year. 
<h3>Crossings Surge to Record Highs</h3>
The Biden administration set all kinds of records at the southern border in 2023 and none of them were good. Throughout the year, multiple records for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/record-set-for-southern-border-encounters-in-one-month-as-nearly-250000-cross-into-u-s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">monthly crossings</a> were set leading up to December, when crossings <a href="https://twitter.com/BillMelugin_/status/1740760905569460246" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> hit an all time high at 276,000.
The December record was set with three days still left in the year, and marked a large uptick from November which itself was a monthly record.
“We are now at over 760,000 migrant encounters since October 1st, making the first quarter of fiscal year 2024 also the highest ever recorded. Thats a population size bigger than Seattle in just three months,” Fox News reporter Bill Melugin posted on X. “All records being blown out of the water under the Biden admin as the crisis gets worse — not better.”
Other records set included Chinese nationals crossing the southern border at the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chinese-nationals-are-flooding-across-southern-border-at-record-pace" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fastest pace ever</a>, and a record 50,000 Venezuelans<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/50000-venezuelans-illegally-crossed-u-s-border-last-month-shattering-previous-record" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> illegally crossing</a> into the U.S. in September.
<h3>States Send National Guard to Border</h3>
To help with the crisis on the border, states from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gov-bill-lee-to-send-tennessee-national-guard-troops-to-combat-unprecedented-crisis-at-the-border" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tennessee</a> to Arizona continued to send National Guard troops to the border. Arizona Democrat Governor Katie Hobbs <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democratic-arizona-governor-orders-national-guard-to-border-slams-biden-admin-for-allowing-unmitigated-humanitarian-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ripped</a> into Biden for his handling of the border earlier this month when announcing her plans to send the National Guard to the border.
“Yet again, the federal government is refusing to do its job to secure our border and keep our communities safe,” Hobbs said in a statement. “With this Executive Order, I am taking action where the federal government won’t.”
<h3>Illegal Immigrants Sent to Blue Cities</h3>
Another trend that continued into 2023 was red states sending illegal immigrants into blue cities like Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles, all places that have backed lax immigration policies.
Texas bussed and flew <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gov-abbott-says-texas-will-bus-another-70000-immigrants-to-democrat-run-cities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tens of thousands</a> of illegal immigrants across the country to the Democrat cities, prompting them to grapple with the effects of Biden’s border policies.
In NYC, Mayor Eric Adams <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/teachers-union-sues-eric-adams-after-mayor-slashes-education-budget-to-deal-with-illegal-immigration-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was forced</a> to make budget cuts in the city’s Education Department in order to deal with the overflow of illegal immigrants into the Big Apple. Adams and fellow Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago have been sharply critical of the Biden administration and have demanded federal funding to deal with the crisis.
<h3>Colony Ridge Comes Under Scrutiny</h3>
Following Daily Wire reporting on Colony Ridge, a massive development north of Houston that’s become a magnet for illegal aliens, Biden’s DOJ <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-doj-sues-colony-ridge-for-bait-and-switch-sales-predatory-financing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a suit against the development alleging “bait-and-switch” sales and predatory financing practices.
A September <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inside-colony-ridge-the-fastest-growing-development-in-the-u-s-is-a-magnet-for-illegal-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation</a> by The Daily Wire highlighted how the development’s marketing practices appear to be aimed at people who are in the U.S. illegally. The development sells inexpensive plots of land at sky-high interest rates, targeting buyers such as illegal immigrants who are ineligible to apply for traditional loans.
The report garnered responses from prominent Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and legacy outlets also reported on the story.
<h3>Americans Continue to Suffer Because of Illegal Immigration</h3>
Across the country, from Texas to New York, Americans continue to suffer from the impacts of illegal immigration. According to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/migrant-crisis-could-cost-taxpayers-451-billion-house-gop-report-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from House Republicans, illegal immigration costs American taxpayers up to $451 billion. Each taxpayer is on the hook for an average of $956 due to illegal immigration, the report said. This cost comes as inflation has remained high, especially in relation to consumer goods.
In November, dozens of seniors in New York, including a 94-year-old Army veteran named Frank Tammaro, were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dozens-of-nyc-seniors-evicted-from-nursing-home-turned-into-migrant-shelter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> evicted from their senior center, which was then converted into a migrant shelter.
Foreign nationals have also been accused of horrific crimes across the country, including murder.
Earlier this month, an illegal immigrant was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-arrested-in-connection-with-murder-of-16-year-old-texas-cheerleader" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested in connection</a> to the murder of a 16-year-old Texas high school cheerleader named Lizbeth Medina. Also in Texas, a 50-year-old illegal immigrant <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-charged-after-allegedly-shooting-two-sisters-in-the-head-in-their-texas-home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was arrested</a> and charged after allegedly fatally shooting two sisters in the head in their Dallas-area home.
In Nashville, a twice deported illegal immigrant from Honduras <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/twice-deported-illegal-alien-from-honduras-charged-with-murder-in-nashville" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was charged</a> with murder after a man was found in a burned out vehicle. The man was  identified as a member of the “Sur 13” gang and affiliated with “Surenos Locos Criminales.”
A Haitian national <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-alien-allegedly-crashes-into-school-bus-killing-small-child-bidens-catch-and-release-under-scrutiny" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was arrested</a> in Ohio after allegedly crashing his minivan into a school bus last week, resulting in dozens injured and the death of an 11-year-old boy.
<h3>Title 42 Expires</h3>
One of the factors leading to the influx of illegal immigrants was the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel-illegal-immigrants-surge-across-border-as-trump-era-rule-ends" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expiration</a> of Title 42 in May. Title 42 was a Trump-era rule that allowed illegal immigrants to be turned away at the border based on COVID concerns.
In the week leading up to its expiration, swarms of illegal immigrants were seen crossing the Rio Grande into the U.S. Border agents apprehended more than 11,000 people who crossed the border illegally on one day leading up to the expiration, reportedly about double the amount seen in a typical day.
<h3>Biden Administration Tries to Block States from Protecting Borders</h3>
While the border crisis has been ongoing, the Biden administration has tried to thwart efforts by Texas to deter illegal immigration and crack down on people illegally entering the country.
In September, Biden’s Border Patrol <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-officials-cut-razor-wire-on-southern-border-opening-the-floodgates-to-illegal-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cut razor wire</a> that the state of Texas had placed alongside on the Rio Grande to stop illegal aliens from flooding into the country. Biden’s Department of Justice <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abbott-issues-challenge-to-biden-administration-as-doj-sues-texas-over-river-barrier" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also sued</a> Texas Governor Greg Abbott after he constructed a water barrier in the Rio Grande to deter illegal crossings.
The DOJ is also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admin-threatens-to-sue-texas-over-law-giving-state-power-to-crack-down-on-illegal-immigration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatening to sue</a> Texas over a new state law that makes it a crime to illegally enter the state, giving state officials more power to take steps to secure the border amid the ongoing crisis.
<h3>What’s next for the Border Crisis?</h3>
Multiple attempts to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have floundered in 2023, but House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) said that he will bring articles of impeachment against Mayorkas in 2024.
House Republicans&#8217; effort to impeach Mayorkas will likely be a large story going into 2024 and could be a factor to watch as Republicans try to control the House going into 2024.
There could also be a surge of crossings in November and December if Biden is defeated as Republican presidential candidates have pledged to secure the border and crack down on illegal immigration. Former President Donald Trump has promised to institute a large-scale deportation program if re-elected and has promised to finish securing the southern border.
There will also be continued fighting between Texas and the Biden administration as Texas attempts to fill in the gaps left by the Biden administration’s border policies.

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/biden-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Biden administration</a> rule limiting immigrants other than Mexican nationals from seeking asylum in the United States was blocked Tuesday by a federal judge.
U.S. District Judge Jon S. Tigar ruled against the Biden administration order, which mirrors the Trump-era &#8220;transit ban&#8221; policy requiring migrants entering through the southern border to apply online first for protection in other countries they traveled through.
Tigar, a federal judge in California appointed by former President Obama, wrote in his <a href="https://immigrantjustice.org/sites/default/files/content-type/press-release/documents/2023-07/187-East%20Bay-v-Biden_Order-granting-motion-for-SJ_7-25-23.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">35-page decision</a> that the rule violates a federal law allowing anyone to claim asylum while in the United States.
&#8220;The Court concludes that the Rule is contrary to law because it presumes ineligible for asylum noncitizens who enter between ports of entry, using a manner of entry that Congress expressly intended should not affect access to asylum,&#8221; Tigar wrote.
Tigar added that Biden&#8217;s rule also contradicts federal law &#8220;because it presumes ineligible for asylum noncitizens who fail to apply for protection in a transit country, despite Congress&#8217;s clear intent that such a factor should only limit access to asylum where the transit country actually presents a safe option.&#8221;
Millions of illegal immigrants have entered the U.S. under the Biden administration, forcing the president to change tactics in dealing with the influx at the southern border.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, more than 1.7 million migrant encounters occurred in fiscal 2021. Last year, border agents reported another 2.3 million crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border.
After the Biden administration ended Title 42, a Trump-era public health order that allowed for the immediate expulsion of illegal immigrants due to the pandemic, border agents <a href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/nationwide-encounters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">encountered</a> another nearly 145,000 migrants in June — a sharp decrease from the nearly 208,000 from June 2022.

But just before Biden ended the public health order, the president sparked criticism from immigrant activists and legal challenges from civil rights groups for creating a newer version of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/in-major-reversal-biden-resurrects-trump-border-policy-ahead-of-title-42-repeal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trump&#8217;s policy</a> that limited access for third-country immigrants seeking asylum.
The groups who sued the Biden administration include the American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU of Northern California, the Center for Gender &amp; Refugee Studies, and the National Immigrant Justice Center.
American Civil Liberties Union attorney Katrina Eiland, who argued the case, applauded the judge&#8217;s decision.
&#8220;The ruling is a victory, but each day the Biden administration prolongs the fight over its illegal ban, many people fleeing persecution and seeking safe harbor for their families are instead left in grave danger,&#8221; Eiland told <a href="https://apnews.com/article/asylum-limits-biden-border-c118ee7190c58f85bcf5db1e2a270429" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Associated Press</a>. &#8220;The promise of America is to serve as a beacon of freedom and hope, and the administration can and should do better to fulfill this promise, rather than perpetuate cruel and ineffective policies that betray it.&#8221;
Judge Tigar delayed his ruling from taking effect immediately to give the Biden administration enough time to file an expected appeal.

NewsNation host Chris Cuomo gave legacy media an earful for effectively ignoring the ongoing crisis at the U.S. southern border, saying that the failure to properly cover what should have been a major story had only made the problem worse.
The former CNN host — who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-cnn-terminates-chris-cuomo-effective-immediately-over-scandal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was fired</a> by the network in late 2021 amid several scandals — reported from the southern border on Monday, arguing that media had glossed over the problem and claiming that both Republicans and Democrats had <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/tv/the-joke-is-on-us-chris-cuomo-tears-into-biden-and-the-media-for-ignoring-border-crisis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">used the crisis</a> for political gain.
&#8220;You heard all the politics about how there was going to be an invasion and now there’s literally almost no one here, and for you, the absence of people should be more frightening than seeing the big groups because when you see big groups, that means you know where migrants are,&#8221; Cuomo said, arguing that the absence of crowds suggested that illegal immigrants had already been taken to other parts of the country.
&#8220;The media made a big mistake taking a pass on this because we don’t have the spectacle of massive crowds, okay? The absence should be more frightening because we need to know the answer of where they are, and it really is an indication of how broken this system is,&#8221; Cuomo continued.
He went on to criticize President Joe Biden and both major political parties for failing to act on the issue, suggesting that the people who had the power and responsibility to take action often chose not to because it benefitted them politically.
&#8220;Right and Left are wholly unreasonable on this issue. The Right couldn’t wait for the hordes to come through, and then when they did and we have our president laughing, &#8216;Ha ha ha. It’s not as bad as you expected.&#8217; Really? With record numbers being processed and released into America,&#8221; Cuomo continued. &#8220;It’s no laughing matter, but if it is a joke, the joke is on us, because the people in power are allowing this to continue.&#8221;
Cuomo then spoke with journalist Jorge Ventura to get more insight into the situation.

Texas Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales believes that instead of releasing migrants into the United States to wait years for a court date, President Joe Biden should instead send immigration judges to the border to more quickly determine whether or not they have legitimate asylum claims. 
Appearing on CBS’s “Face The Nation,” Gonzales <a href="https://twitter.com/FaceTheNation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">argued</a> that the current process of releasing migrants is insufficient because court dates can be as far out as eight years down the road while explaining that the majority of asylum seekers won’t qualify for asylum anyway. 
“The president should surge immigration judges to the border,” Gonzales told host Margaret Brennan when asked for an alternative to the current strategy. “That person should get their case heard in days, not years.” 
“Right now in El Paso, if you apply on the One App … your court date is 2031,” he added. “That’s eight years from now.”

Gonzales said Biden should have sent judges, not troops, to the border because &#8220;nine out of ten&#8221; migrants don’t qualify for asylum. Gonzales shared footage from an overcrowded Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility in El Paso, which he said shows the situation is worse than it’s being made out to be. 
“This is what I’m hearing on the ground from mayors, from border patrol agents, from embedded media, everyone is saying it’s not that bad,” Gonzales said, adding that he decided to take a look for himself. 
Gonzales said more than 6,000 migrants in the El Paso sector are currently in custody and that the facility he filmed is meant to hold 1,000 people – not the 3,000 he says it’s currently housing. Gonzales notes that one of the rooms was intended to hold 120 people but was holding more than 700. “This is what ‘not that bad’ looks like,” Gonzales said.
“We can’t allow ‘not that bad’ to be the normal,” he said, adding that a migrant child died in HHS custody last week.

His comments come after Title 42, the pandemic-era rule that allowed authorities to turn away migrants at the border based on public health grounds, ended on Thursday. According to the Border Patrol union, as of last week, CBP was holding <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel-illegal-immigrants-surge-across-border-as-trump-era-rule-ends" target="_blank" rel="noopener">roughly</a> 28,000 illegal immigrants at detention facilities, a number beyond capacity, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/spike-us-mexico-border-crossings-fuels-political-tensions-title-42-ends-2023-05-11/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Reuters. 
Fox News <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-heads-to-beach-after-shattering-all-time-record-with-83000-illegal-aliens-storming-border-in-1-week" target="_blank" rel="noopener">correspondent</a> Bill Melugin reported a “record setting” 83,000 illegal immigrants crossed the Southern Border last week alone.

Homeland Security Secretary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/alejandro-mayorkas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alejandro Mayorkas</a> said on Sunday that U.S. Border Patrol encounters have dropped by half in the two days since <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/title-42" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Title 42</a> expired.
Around 6,300 encounters took place on Friday and 4,200 happened Saturday — a marked decrease from the over 10,000 reported before the end of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/title-42" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Title 42</a>, Mayorkas said during an interview on CNN.
Pressed on why the numbers have fallen, Mayorkas credited a &#8220;vitally important message&#8221; encouraging people arriving at the border to take legal pathways toward entry, which he said has been expanded by President Joe Biden in &#8220;an unprecedented way.&#8221;

Mayorkas also touted stiffer punishments under Title 8, which can include deportation, a five-year ban on entry, and possible criminal prosecution.
However, Mayorkas conceded it is &#8220;still early&#8221; to tell when asked by &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; anchor Dana Bash whether the &#8220;surge&#8221; at the U.S.-Mexico border has &#8220;peaked.&#8221;
The pandemic-era Title 42, which allowed authorities to quickly turn away migrants at the border on public health grounds, came to a close at the end of Thursday, and not everyone is pleased with the Biden administration&#8217;s handling of the situation.
Republicans have been quick to fault what they say is the government&#8217;s &#8220;open border&#8221; policies ahead of what many expected to be a large influx of illegal crossings. And some Democrats have chastised the Biden administration for not doing more. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), for instance, <a href="https://rubengallego.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/rep-gallego-statement-termination-title-42" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said federal agencies</a> &#8220;have had time to plan, but their efforts have fallen short&#8221; when it comes to helping border communities.

Mayorkas said he would &#8220;respectfully disagree&#8221; when asked by Bash to respond to Democrats who believe the Biden administration has &#8220;fallen short.&#8221; He pointed to preparations for the expected influx of people, including <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2023/05/10/secretary-mayorkas-remarks-media-availability-outlining-planning-and-operations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the deployment of thousands more personnel</a> and resources to assist Border Patrol.

A federal judge in Florida issued a ruling on Thursday to block the officials from carrying out a plan to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/court-order-blocking-catch-and-release-fast-track-at-border-is-sabotage-white-house-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;parole&#8221; migrants</a> at overcrowded holding facilities without a mandated court day, an order which the White House called &#8220;sabotage&#8221; and Mayorkas said was <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/05/12/mayorkas-florida-immigration-title-42-00096634" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;very harmful.&#8221;</a>

Mayorkas Says Border Patrol Encounters Down By Half Since Title 42 Expired

Hundreds of migrants who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/illegal-immigration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">illegally crossed</a> the border have been released in an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/arizona" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Arizona</a> border city without being fully processed, according to a new report. 
According to The Daily Mail, hundreds of migrants <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12078945/Arizona-border-city-releases-190-migrants-streets-Yuma-Title-42-ends.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were released</a> into Yuma, Arizona, on Friday after Mayor Douglas Nicholls reportedly said migrants who were “vetted” but not fully processed would be let out of holding. The outlet reported that 140 people were dropped off at the Yuma Public Safety Training Facility to be brought to Phoenix and another 140 were released at two other sites, including another one in Yuma and one in San Luis. 
“This is decompressing and the federal government is relying on the local and state government to do its job,” said Yuma County Supervisor Jonathan Lines. “It&#8217;s another failure of the Biden Administration to manage a problem they created with their open border policy.”
The releases <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-heads-to-beach-after-shattering-all-time-record-with-83000-illegal-aliens-storming-border-in-1-week" target="_blank" rel="noopener">come as a record number</a> of migrants have crossed from Mexico into the U.S., according to Border Patrol. 
“Border Patrol reports a record setting 83,000 migrants crossed our border illegally this week alone. Just to put that number in perspective for you, that is equivalent to a full capacity Dallas Cowboys football stadium crossing our border in a single week,” Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin said.
The record crossings come amid the ending of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/title-42" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Title 42</a>, a Trump-administration immigration policy that allowed migrants to be turned back based on COVID concerns. In anticipation of its end, up to 700,000 people, including many from Central America, were waiting at the border for entry.

Nicholls said on Thursday that those released had received at least processing, saying that none would be criminals. 
“These are people that have been vetted to at least to the point where Border Patrol has issued them notice to appear papers wherever they end up living in the country,” he said. “I ask everyone, all of our citizens to remain calm. There&#8217;s not people that have that are convicted of crimes that are being released.”
The Republican mayor <a href="https://www.thecentersquare.com/arizona/article_cc581b60-f04d-11ed-b0cd-b3d46fd8fafc.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> for President Joe Biden to declare a national emergency on the border leading up to the expiration of Title 42. Over 114,000 people have crossed somewhere into the Yuma sector this year, including many single adults. 
Biden, who has faced widespread criticism for his handling of the border, will reportedly spend his weekend at his beach home in Delaware — which is <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-builds-taxpayer-funded-wall-delaware-beach-house-despite-opposing-border-barriers">guarded</a> by a taxpayer-funded wall — as immigration officials will be working on to deal with the illegal immigration crisis.

The illegal immigration crisis isn&#8217;t very complex. If you want &#8220;order at the border&#8221; — as Democrats such as President Joe Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claim — then it needs to be closed once and for all.
The problem, however, is that the Left&#8217;s definition of &#8220;order&#8221; simply means that illegal aliens are &#8220;processed&#8221; by immigration officials and then released into the country via new &#8220;legal&#8221; measures. &#8220;Order&#8221; to the Democrats does not mean having the necessary physical barriers or manpower necessary at the U.S.-Mexican border to deter entry. Nor does it include enforcing policies that effectively prevent illegal immigrants from entering the nation in the first place.
Democrats tend to think that many of these illegal aliens have a right to be in the country — and that the country needs them for cheap labor. The issue is how these foreign nationals arrive — not that they&#8217;re coming in record numbers, to Biden and his ilk. Democrats want an orderly system for these individuals to come into the country.
As the following photo below shows, the Biden administration seems to have succeeded in doing just that. That scene is a success in Biden&#8217;s mind.
Consider also that on Thursday, Mayorkas also <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/05/11/biden-officials-advertise-to-foreign-nationals-how-best-to-get-into-u-s-while-claiming-borders-are-not-open/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bragged</a>, &#8220;President Biden has led the largest expansion of lawful pathways in decades.&#8221;
Mayorkas had planned to release hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens into the U.S., without a court hearing, once Title 42 expired. Thankfully, a federal judge ruled late Thursday evening that the plan was unconstitutional.
Yet all the judge really said was that illegal aliens cannot be released into the interior until they are given a court date. Those immigration hearings are often far off in the future.

Again, it is likely that hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens will continue to be allowed into the U.S. in the days ahead, provided they go through the necessary steps to secure a court date. Here&#8217;s one reported example of what an &#8220;asylum seeker&#8221; &#8220;legally&#8221; in America looks like:

That young woman has a court date nearly four years from now. She&#8217;s not alone. As of December 2022, there were <a href="https://trac.syr.edu/reports/705/#:~:text=Asylum%20Seekers%20Before%20the%20Immigration%20Court&amp;text=A%20decade%20later%2C%20the%20backlog,cases%20and%20now%20totals%20787%2C882." target="_blank" rel="noopener">1.6 million individuals</a> awaiting asylum court hearings. Now, that number is going to increase by the thousands each day.
Similarly, when the president boasts that he has sent troops to the border, he leaves out that they aren&#8217;t there for law enforcement. They are there to help illegal aliens come into the U.S. through government checkpoints.
While the president has recently suggested he is going to adopt new policies that resemble former President Donald Trump&#8217;s &#8220;Remain in Mexico&#8221; policy, it should be noted this current crisis was caused because Biden revoked nearly every illegal immigration policy put into place by Trump.
The Biden administration has also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-joe-biden-effectively-ended-deportations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cut back on deportations</a> while folks such as Senate Majority Chuck Schumer (D-NY) advocate amnesty for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-thanks-schumer-wants-amnesty-for-11-million-or-however-many-illegal-aliens-are-in-the-u-s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">every single illegal alien</a> in the country.
This disarray will only stop once it is clear that illegal immigrants will not be allowed to enter the country. Then, the federal government needs to actually block them from crossing the border while deporting the illegal aliens already in the U.S.
The only party that can realistically make that happen is the Republican Party — and even then, a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bad-news-for-americans-bipartisanship-is-back-here-comes-amnesty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">good number of GOP officials</a> want similar immigration policies to the Biden administration.
That means that the chaos, as Biden <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-quietly-admits-border-been-chaos-number-years-ahead-title-42-expiration">described it this week</a>, will continue.

Manchin&#8217;s comments come as a report this week from Axios said that he could be preparing to launch a “third-party presidential bid” in 2024 for the White House based on some of his recent actions.
The outlet <a href="https://www.axios.com/2023/05/10/manchin-iowa-voters-2024-third-party" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Manchin, 75, told business leaders this week in Iowa — which is no longer the first state in the Democratic Party’s nomination process — that his politics are “fiscally responsible and socially compassionate.”
The report said that Manchin appealed to Democrat voters in the state by taking a different stance than many Democrats, saying: “I believe the government should be your partner. I’m not your provider.”
The report said that his remarks came as he has increasingly opposed elements of President Joe Biden’s agenda and <a href="https://www.manchin.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/manchin-to-oppose-every-epa-nominee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement this week that he will oppose all of Biden’s EPA nominees due to their “radical climate agenda” and “their government overreach.”

How do we bring people together to protect the quality of life, the values that we’ve had that we were raised with?”
“You have got to fight for the reasonable, responsible middle and no one is doing that,” he said. “There’s no options.”

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, who may soon enter the 2024 presidential contest, lashed out at Biden as he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/desantis-signs-strongest-anti-illegal-immigration-bills-into-law-as-biden-border-crisis-worsens" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed legislation</a> on Wednesday to crack down on illegal immigration.

Multiple cities and at least one state have <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmIXqxUQZ1E" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared emergencies</a> as officials brace for a surge in asylum-seekers and longer processing periods when the <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/04/18/human-tidal-wave-is-waiting-for-border-to-open-may-11-biden-has-no-plan-to-stop-it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pandemic-era Title 42</a>, which allows authorities to quickly turn away migrants at the border on public health grounds, expires by the end of Thursday.
Large groups of people have been seen amassing at the southern border, and many <a href="https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1656396774452477954" target="_blank" rel="noopener">are making a break</a> for the United States between official ports of entry. Border agents are making up to 10,000 apprehensions daily this week, Customs and Border Protection sources <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/border-patrol-encounters-10000-migrants-third-day-numbers-swell-before-title-42-drops" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told Fox News</a>.
The <a href="https://kfoxtv.com/news/local/title-42-is-ending-heres-what-it-has-done-and-how-us-immigration-policy-is-changing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associated Press reported</a> border agents have been told to start releasing migrants from stations that are overcrowded while instructing them to show up to an immigration office within 60 days or face deportation. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody <a href="https://www.myfloridalegal.com/newsrelease/title-42-expires-ag-moody-files-new-lawsuit-force-biden-follow-federal-court-order" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sued the Biden administration</a> in an effort to ensure it complies with a <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/bidens-catch-release-border-policy-struck-down-by-us-judge-2023-03-08/#:~:text=March%208%20(Reuters)%20%2D%20A,them%20violates%20U.S.%20immigration%20law." target="_blank" rel="noopener">court ruling</a> from earlier this year and prevent the &#8220;mass release&#8221; of migrants.
In a bid to get a handle on the situation, Mayorkas said smugglers have been &#8220;spreading false&#8221; information that the border will be open after Title 42 expires. &#8220;It will not be. They are lying,&#8221; <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2023/05/10/secretary-mayorkas-remarks-media-availability-outlining-planning-and-operations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he said on Wednesday</a>. The secretary urged migrants stick to lawful pathways to entry and warned that anyone who enters the country illegally faces the prospect of stiffer punishments under Title 8, which can ban people from re-entry for several years.
Despite taking some precautions, including <a href="https://apnews.com/article/biden-immigration-troops-southern-border-68ec4d25fb87b41265019a0ffd20a784" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sending troops</a> to assist authorities at the U.S.-Mexico border and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/in-major-reversal-biden-resurrects-trump-border-policy-ahead-of-title-42-repeal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">moving to</a> disqualify migrants from applying for asylum in the United States if they neglected to first apply for asylum in other countries they traveled through, Biden <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-southern-border-will-be-chaotic-for-while" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conceded this week</a> that the border will be &#8220;chaotic for a while.&#8221;
Democrats in Congress have pressed the president to consider other actions such as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dems-urge-biden-to-loosen-sanctions-on-communist-cuba-socialist-venezuela-to-mitigate-border-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">further loosening sanctions</a> on communist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/cuba" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cuba</a> and socialist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/venezuela" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Venezuela</a>, arguing the suffering they cause are a driving force behind migration, or <a href="https://twitter.com/SenatorMenendez/status/1656436733251125248" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expanding legal pathways</a> for migrants from certain Central American countries in a bid to boost local economies.
McConnell, in his floor speech on Thursday, said &#8220;some of our Democratic colleagues are feigning great angst and indignation over&#8221; the end of Title 42.
&#8220;They claim to be outraged that President Biden doesn’t have a better plan,&#8221; McConnell said. &#8220;But every senator had a chance just last year to vote to keep funding Title 42 measures. Senate Republicans gave our Democratic colleagues that opportunity. And every single Democrat voted in lock-step against it.&#8221;

Ryan, the White House correspondent for The Grio, responded to an exchange that took place Thursday during a press conference with the Homeland Security chief — during which he addressed the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/in-major-reversal-biden-resurrects-trump-border-policy-ahead-of-title-42-repeal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expiring Title 42</a> immigration restrictions and what the border policy would look like going forward.
&#8220;Maybe its just me but!&#8221; Ryan tweeted, sharing a photo of two migrants, one of whom appeared to be attempting to escape as a mounted Border Patrol Agent grabbed his shirt. The split rein that the agent would normally use to control the horse could also be seen hanging freely from the horse&#8217;s bridle.

When that now-famous photo first surfaced, many mistook the free rein for a whip and alleged that agents had &#8220;whipped&#8221; migrants at the border in order to prevent them from escaping into the interior of the United States.
Even the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/photographer-who-took-horseback-border-patrol-photos-ive-never-seen-them-whip-anyone" target="_blank" rel="noopener">photographer</a> who captured the image stated publicly that he had never seen agents whip anyone, but still the narrative persisted and President Joe Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dhs-investigation-debunks-claim-that-border-agents-whipped-migrants-but-jen-psaki-president-biden-still-wont-apologize" target="_blank" rel="noopener">publicly criticized</a> the agents — and he even called for a federal investigation into their behavior. That investigation determined that the Border Patrol agents had simply done their jobs and that no one had been whipped.
Despite the fact that the investigation was concluded over a year earlier, Ryan brought it up during Thursday&#8217;s press conference.

Ryan was not deterred, however, claiming that she &#8220;saw it differently&#8221; and insisting that &#8220;they were whipped with something from the horse.&#8221;
She went on to suggest that either the photos or videos that circulated after the alleged whipping incident might have been somehow &#8220;fixed,&#8221; repeating once more that what she had seen &#8220;was totally different.&#8221;

<a href="https://escobar.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=1227" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A letter</a>, spearheaded by Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX), argued these penalties are &#8220;push-factors&#8221; fueling a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/border-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crisis at the southern border</a> ahead of the imminent expiration of the Title 42 policy credited with blocking millions of crossings.
“Experts widely agree that broad-based U.S. sanctions — expanded to an unprecedented level by former President Donald Trump — are a critical contributing factor in the current increase in migration,” the group said.
“In light of their grave humanitarian toll on the peoples of those countries, and the significant logistical challenges that the resulting increase in migration is causing for federal, state, and local authorities, we urge you to act swiftly to lift the failed and indiscriminate economic sanctions that were imposed by the prior administration,&#8221; they added.
The Trump administration <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sm1239" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued sanctions</a> against Venezuela to punish the &#8220;illegitimate&#8221; regime led by President Nicolás Maduro, citing an &#8220;abuse&#8221; of natural resources, and against Cuba <a href="https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-florida-archive-courts-cuba-1380bca4b965163fde80a31cef3b1396" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to reverse</a> what former President Donald Trump called &#8220;the Obama-Biden sellout to the Castro regime.&#8221; In the final days of Trump&#8217;s administration, the federal government re-designated Cuba as a <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/trump-hits-cuba-with-new-terrorism-sanctions-in-waning-days" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;state sponsor of terrorism.&#8221;</a>

They recognize that Biden has already lifted some <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/16/us/politics/biden-cuba-policy.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">penalties</a> on both <a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/11/26/1139284014/biden-venezuela-oil-sanctions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">countries</a>, but lament how &#8220;most of the Trump administration-imposed sanctions remain and continue to exacerbate our challenges at the border.&#8221;
