The long-awaited “Beetlejuice” sequel is currently tracking to set a near record when it debuts on September 6 across the country.
Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hits theaters this week — 36 years after the first film came out — and the film currently looks to earn $100-$110 million at the domestic box office, based on advanced ticket sales and tracking data, the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/beetlejuice-beetlejuice-box-office-preview-1235991724/">Hollywood Reporter</a> reported.
If those numbers hold, the highly-anticipated sequel will be able to claim the second-best opening of all time coming in behind the monster hit in September 2017 of &#8220;It,” which launched at $123 million, not adjusted for inflation.
However, Warner Bros is being more conservative and believes it will debut with $80 million plus, the outlet noted.
The current record holders for movies with the second-biggest September openings include Marvel’s 2021 “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” with $75.4 million and 2019’s “It Chapter Two” with $91.1 million.

The original film in 1988 grossed $74 million at the box office, or more than $195 million when adjusted for inflation, and became an instant cult classic.
Returning for the sequel are several stars of the original film, including actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michael-keaton-promises-beetlejuice-character-wont-be-politically-correct-in-sequel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Keaton</a> who famously played the bizarre lead character “Beetlejuice,” along with actress Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. Newcomers to the fantasy comedy include <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/jenna-ortega/">Jenna Ortega</a>, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux.
On his return to the maniacal “Beetlejuice” character, Keaton recently assured fans that his character, once again, does not accommodate the politically correct crowd.

“He’s a thing. He’s more of a thing than a he or a she, he’s more of an it. And I’m not saying ‘it’ to be politically correct. I just viewed it as a force more than anything. I mean, there’s definitely strong male energy, like stupid male energy, which I love,” the actor explained. “You don’t want to touch that because it’s not like you go, ‘Well, it’s a new year and this thing would now act like that.’”

Director <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-burton">Tim Burton</a> said he’s not interested in dabbling in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/superhero">superhero</a> films again despite being considered by many to be a pioneer of the genre.
The 65-year-old celeb is best known for his gothic and horror <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">films</a>, but he’s also recognized for being the creative force behind “Batman” (1989). That movie is thought to be the first in a long line of superhero films that was a gateway for Marvel and DC.
“I was lucky because at that time, the word ‘franchise’ didn’t exist,” Burton told <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/features/tim-burton-beetlejuice-ed-wood-batman-walk-of-fame-1236111194/">Variety</a> of working on the movie. “So ‘Batman’ felt slightly experimental at the time. … It deviated from what the perception [of a superhero movie] might be.”
He went on to explain how he didn’t experience “pressure” from the studio because he was far removed from them.
“So you didn’t hear that kind of studio feedback, and being in England, it was even further removed. We really just got to focus on the film and not really think about those things that now they think about even before you do it,” Burton explained.
The filmmaker also discussed the idea of doing a sequel.
“I wasn’t really interested in doing a sequel, but I liked Penguin and Catwoman so I got reenergized by the whole thing,” he said. “And that was when we started hearing the word franchise and where the studio started going, ‘What’s the black stuff coming out of the Penguin’s mouth?’ It was the first time the cold wind of that kind of thing came upon me.”
When asked if he’d do a superhero movie in the future, the Academy Award nominee said probably not. “I would say no. Like I said, I come at things from different points of view, so I would never say never to anything. But, at the moment, it’s not something I’d be interested in.”

In a recent interview with <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/michael-keaton-gq-hype">GQ</a>, “Batman” star Michael Keaton credited Burton with helping create the superhero film genre as it now stands despite pushback from comic book fans at the time.
“Tim deserves enormous credit. He changed everything,” Keaton said. “I can’t necessarily say this, but there’s a strong possibility there is no Marvel Universe, there is no DC Universe, without Tim Burton. He was doubted and questioned.”

Actor Michael Keaton discussed some details about the upcoming “Beetlejuice” sequel, insisting that the main character he plays didn’t change to accommodate the politically correct crowd.

“The one thing that [Burton] and I decided on early, early, early on from the beginning, if we ever did it again, I was totally not interested in doing something where there was too much technology. It had to feel handmade. It’s the most exciting thing. When you get to do that again after years of standing in front of a giant screen, pretending somebody’s across the way from you, this is just enormous fun,” he added.
He told GQ of the effects, “For the most part, [with CGI] I think a lot of audiences subconsciously feel farther away from what&#8217;s actually going on on the screen or in the story. It&#8217;ll work, they&#8217;ll accept it. But I think for a lot of movies, it&#8217;s not quite as enjoyable.”
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” is scheduled to hit theaters on September 6.

The actor, who plays the titular character in both the original and the sequel, stressed that the realness of the movie is what makes it great.
“What made it fun was watching somebody in the corner actually holding something up for you, to watch everybody in the shrunken head room and say, ‘Those are people under there, operating these things, trying to get it right,’” Keaton said.

He told the outlet that they’d tossed around the idea of doing a sequel to the 1988 fantasy horror comedy many times, but it never worked out until now.
“We thought, ‘You got to get this right. Otherwise, just don’t do it. Let’s just go on with our lives and do other things,’” Keaton said. “So I was hesitant and cautious, and he was probably equally as hesitant and cautious over all these years. Once we got there, I said, ‘OK, let’s just go for it. Let’s just see if we can do it, if we can pull this off.’”
The sequel, called “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” is scheduled to hit theaters on September 6, 2024.

Director <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-burton">Tim Burton</a> will team up with best-selling “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn to remake the 1958 sci-fi horror <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">film</a> “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman.”
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">project</a> will be released with Warner Bros. Studios, according to a report from <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/news/tim-burton-gillian-flynn-remake-attack-fifty-foot-woman-1235894570/">Variety</a>. The outlet noted how Burton will serve as the film’s director while Flynn is responsible for crafting the script. 
In the original movie, a woman grows to gigantic proportions after an encounter with an alien, and she uses her new size to get revenge on her unfaithful husband.
The original 1958 “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman” featured Allison Hayes, William Hudson, and Yvette Vickers in leading roles. It had a production of $88,000, the outlet noted. The original film currently has a 71% critic score and 21% audience rating on <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1001323-attack_of_the_50_foot_woman">Rotten Tomatoes</a>.
It’s also not immediately apparent what changes will be incorporated into the remake. The movie was remade in 1993 by HBO with Christopher Guest serving as director. There were also several failed or abandoned remakes prior to that, and a few spinoffs, including a parody called “Attack of the 60 Foot Centerfold” (1995) and a 3D film called “Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader” in 2012.
Flynn is no stranger to Hollywood. The 52-year-old author wrote and produced the HBO limited series adaptation of another one of her books, “Sharp Objects,” which earned her an Emmy nomination and the Writers Guild of America Award. Flynn was also co-writer on the screenplay for “Widows” (2018) and wrote the screenplay for David Fincher’s 2014 thriller “Gone Girl,” which was based on her book.

Hollywood veteran <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-burton">Tim Burton</a> said he’s uncomfortable with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/artificial-intelligence">artificial intelligence</a> (AI) being used to recreate his signature style.
The 65-year-old filmmaker discussed his thoughts during a September <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/features/tim-burton-beetlejuice-2-johnny-depp-disney-b2406538.html">interview</a> with The Independent. Burton elaborated on the pitfalls of using AI for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">animation</a> in response to a Buzzfeed <a href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/laurengarafano/disney-movies-reimagined-to-be-tim-burton-directed">article</a> that reworked Disney characters into the &#8220;Burton look&#8221; using this type of technology.
“They had AI do my versions of Disney characters!” the “Beetlejuice” director said. “I can’t describe the feeling it gives you. It reminded me of when other cultures say, ‘Don’t take my picture because it is taking away your soul.’”
He continued, “What it does is it sucks something from you. It takes something from your soul or psyche; that is very disturbing, especially if it has to do with you. It’s like a robot taking your humanity, your soul.”
AI has become a hot topic in the Hollywood community and is at the center of strike negotiations. Other filmmakers have also sounded the alarm, saying that the use of artificial intelligence should have guidelines and standards.

Academy Award-winning director James Cameron said one of the biggest dangers is the “weaponization” of AI. 
“You got to follow the money. Who’s building these things? They’re either building it to dominate marketing shares, so you’re teaching it greed, or you’re building it for defensive purposes, so you’re teaching it paranoia. I think the weaponization of AI is the biggest danger,” Cameron <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-warned-you-guys-in-1984-director-james-cameron-unleashes-on-the-rise-of-ai-in-film">said</a>. 
“I think that we will get into the equivalent of a nuclear arms race with AI, and if we don’t build it, the other guys are for sure going to build it, and so then it’ll escalate,” he added. “You could imagine an AI in a combat theatre, the whole thing just being fought by the computers at a speed humans can no longer intercede, and you have no ability to de-escalate. I warned you guys in 1984! And you didn’t listen.”
Burton for one is sticking with the old school way of making movies. For the highly anticipated sequel “Beetlejuice 2,” he decided to use similar techniques as he did for the original 1988 movie.
&#8220;I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies,” Burton told The Independent.

The Vermont State Police posted a photo on X, formerly known as Twitter, referencing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-burton">Tim Burton’s</a> original “Beetlejuice” film from 1988.
“We tried saying the name of this stolen statue three times, but it didn’t come back!” they joked in a post shared on July 21. 
“We’re investigating the theft of this 150-pound sculpture from the Beetlejuice 2 set in E. Corinth, along with a lamppost topped with a pumpkin decoration,” the post continued. They ended with a plea for more information from the public and a phone number to call.

The sculpture was one of Delia Deetz’s (Catherine O’Hara) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">creations</a> from the original film.
Tim Burton will return to direct the “Beetlejuice” sequel. It is currently scheduled for a September 6, 2024 release, but that could change depending on how the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes play out. 
Original cast members O’Hara, Michael Keaton, and Winona Ryder are signed on for the project. “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega is also on the cast roster, along with actors Willem Dafoe and Justin Theroux.
Keaton previously discussed how he and Burton were committed to doing special effects the same way they did with the original rather than relying on CGI.

Keaton spoke with British film magazine Empire for an article published this weekend about how he and Burton tackled the highly anticipated <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">sequel</a>, which has been rumored to be in the works for decades. “Beetlejuice 2” finally has an official premiere date of September 6, 2024.
&#8220;Beetlejuice is the most f***in’ fun you can have working. It’s so fun, it’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie,&#8221; he told <a href="https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/michael-keaton-talks-the-handmade-feel-of-beetlejuice-2/">Empire</a>. &#8220;There’s a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know this because I love it – tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move.&#8221;
The Oscar-nominated actor also discussed how he and Burton approached the project. He said the concept didn’t include fancy special effects which are so prevalent in contemporary films.

Michael Keaton Talks Making 'Beetlejuice 2' With Tim Burton Using 'Handmade Stuff' Over New Tech

Director Tim Burton, who has filmed classics such as “Beetlejuice,” “Edward Scissorhands,” and “Ed Wood” is being <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/11/30/tim-burtons-wednesday-called-racist-for-casting-black-actors-as-bullies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attacked as a racist</a> for his new hit show “Wednesday,” which premiered with record ratings.
In the show, black actress Joy Sunday plays a bully at Nevermore Academy and black actor Iman Marson plays another bully who is the son of the town’s mayor. That was enough for some critics to label Burton a racist, despite the fact that the lead actress, Jenna Ortega, is Hispanic.
“Don’t get me wrong…I love Jenna Ortega and that she’s playing Wednesday but one thing I hate about this show is that why did they make ALL the black people in this show terrible people?” a viewer <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11491019/Woke-mob-slams-Tim-Burtons-Netflix-series-Wednesday-casting-black-actors-bullies.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">carped</a>. “Like how did Netflix see nothing wrong with this? I hate Tim Burton’s racist self.”
Another social media user piped up, “&#8217;Tim Burton casts black people finally and makes them pilgrim villains. Y&#8217;all can&#8217;t tell me that man isn&#8217;t insufferable and racist as hell in real life.”
“Why is the Black girl in Wednesday&#8217;s school an aggressive bully tho? hmmm Tim Burton is a known racist&#8230;.. no surprises there&#8230;..” a third critic chimed in.
Addressing people who slammed his 2016 film “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” for its lack of diversity, Burton <a href="https://www.bustle.com/articles/186641-tim-burton-explains-why-miss-peregrines-home-for-peculiar-children-features-a-predominantly-white-cast" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a>, “Nowadays, people are talking about it more. &#8230; things either call for things, or they don’t. I remember back when I was a child watching The Brady Bunch and they started to get all politically correct. Like, OK, let’s have an Asian child and a black. I used to get more offended by that than just&#8230; I grew up watching blaxploitation movies, right? And I said, that’s great. I didn’t go like, OK, there should be more white people in these movies.”
Actor Samuel Jackson, who appears in the film, stated, &#8220;I had to go back in my head and go, how many black characters have been in Tim Burton movies? And I may have been the first, I don’t know, or the most prominent in that particular way, but it happens the way it happens. I don’t think it’s any fault of his or his method of storytelling, it’s just how it’s played out. Tim’s a really great guy.”
“Wednesday has summoned a new record for Netflix. The supernatural series drew a whopping 341.23M hours viewed in its first week on the streamer, soaring to the top of the TV charts,” <a href="https://deadline.com/2022/11/wednesday-breaks-record-most-hours-viewed-netflix-ratings-1235184006/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deadline</a> reported.
