Hoover&#8217;s proposal, sent to then-President Harry S Truman in 1950, did say that those who were detained would eventually be granted a hearing — before one judge and two citizens — but that hearing &#8220;will not be bound by the rules of evidence.&#8221;

The New Yorker Reinvents J. Edgar Hoover To Attack Kash Patel

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/megyn-kelly">Megyn Kelly</a> and former top Levi executive Jennifer Sey were just a few of the people who blasted a resurfaced magazine cover that praised a man as the highest paid female CEO.
In the recently reposted 2014 cover of the New Yorker magazine, the outlet wrote about trans-identifying male Martine Rothblatt as “The Highest Paid Female CEO In America.” The <a href="https://x.com/wesyang/status/1839084556336640027" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> noted that Rothblatt had been named to the Mayo Clinic’s Board of Directors in 2022.
The host of Sirius XM&#8217;s “The Megyn Kelly Show” podcast reposted the cover and slammed the fact that the magazine claimed Rothblatt was a woman. Her post has since gone viral with more than 4 million views at the time of publication.

“He wasn&#8217;t pregnant, multiple times causing his bosses to wonder about his commitment to the job,” she added. “He didn&#8217;t have to come back from maternity leave after 6 weeks and have promotions delayed because he had babies; he didn&#8217;t have to come to work exhausted from having been up all night with a newborn.”
“He didn&#8217;t have to pump milk in a closet while trying to work,” Sey continued. “He wasn&#8217;t groped by gross sales guys at drunken sales meetings. He didn&#8217;t sit in jobs on average 18-24 months longer than male counterparts, delivering results but not getting promoted. He was the male counterpart getting promoted! No. Just no. This is not a triumph for women in the workplace. Give me an f***ing break.”
Kelly and Sey weren’t the only ones who blasted the move by the magazine.

President Joe Biden took direct aim at Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas during a recent interview, referring to him simply as &#8220;the guy who likes to spend a lot of time on yachts.&#8221;
The <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2024/03/11/joe-bidens-last-campaign?_sp=cdddf561-5a6a-4f4b-aade-4aa97c8bce5e.1709578483135" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> was published Monday by The New Yorker, and the comments regarding Thomas came up when Biden was asked about the Court&#8217;s 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, which overturned the landmark 1973 abortion case Roe v. Wade.
Biden told interviewer Evan Osnos that if he had the chance, his goal was to &#8220;pass Roe v. Wade as the law of the land&#8221; — and that he was reasonably confident that Democrats could attain the necessary Congressional majorities to make that happen.
&#8220;A few more elections like we’ve seen taking place in the states&#8221; might do it, Biden argued. &#8220;You’re seeing the country changing.&#8221;
Biden then pivoted to voice what he claimed were his personal views on abortion, saying, &#8220;I’ve never been supportive of, you know, &#8216;It’s my body, I can do what I want with it.&#8217; But I have been supportive of the notion that this is probably the most rational allocation of responsibility that all the major religions have signed on and debated over the last thousand years.&#8221;
Osnos then asked Biden whether he believed — as some have suggested – that the Court could also roll back decisions regarding &#8220;same sex marriage, the decriminalization of homosexuality, and access to contraception.&#8221;
Biden said that he did not believe there would be a majority on the Court willing to roll back any decisions addressing those issues — but he did believe some on the Court would be in favor of doing so.
&#8220;I think that a couple on the Court would go considerably further &#8230; the guy who likes to spend a lot of time on yachts,&#8221; Biden said.
When Osnos asked, for clarification, &#8220;Thomas?&#8221; the president just smiled.

The &#8220;Beetlejuice&#8221; actress explained — during an <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/culture/the-new-yorker-interview/geena-davis-is-ready-for-the-geenaissance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with The New Yorker that was published on Thursday — that Hoffman, who had been acting for years before she came onto the scene, had offered her several pieces of advice while they were filming together.
Davis explained that up to that point, she had been modeling — and she just happened to land her first role in &#8220;Tootsie&#8221; after her modeling agents gave her name to the people casting the film.
&#8220;So I go to audition, and they said, &#8216;Wear a bathing suit under your clothes. In case you read well, they’re going to want to see you in a bathing suit.&#8217; And so I read with, like, an assistant casting director and a video camera, and she said, &#8216;O.K., thank you.&#8217; And I left. I was, like, Well, that’s fine. I didn’t do well enough. Plus, it was my first audition ever—what are the odds I’m going to get in a movie with Dustin Hoffman?&#8221; Davis recalled.
But director Sydney Pollack did like her, and she landed the role opposite Hoffman — who advised her, among other things, to not sleep with her co-stars. Conservatives posted plenty of barbs on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a> in reaction to the news that CNN chief legal analyst <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jeffrey-toobin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jeffrey Toobin</a> was leaving the network.
Toobin announced his decision to leave the network Friday after working for the network for 20 years. Toobin was previously at the center of significant controversy in 2020 when he was fired from the New Yorker and took a leave of absence from CNN after exposing himself during a Zoom video conference. Toobin was later welcomed back to the network.
Toobin made the announcement in a letter to colleagues Friday. &#8220;I wanted to let you know that after twenty years I’ve decided to leave CNN after my vacation,&#8221; Toobin said in the letter, via <a href="https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/jeffrey-toobin-cnn-out-1235340227/">Variety</a>. &#8220;It was great to spend my last day on air, like so many before, with my pals at [The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer], [Anderson Cooper 360] and Don Lemon Tonight. It’s been a privilege (and fun) being your colleague. The work of CNN is enormously important, and I know you’ll continue doing it with the same passion and intelligence as always.”
He made the announcement public in a tweet Friday afternoon. &#8220;Friends, I’ve decided that, after 20 years, I’m leaving @cnn after my vacation,&#8221; Toobin tweeted. &#8220;Was great to spend my last day on air with pals Wolf, Anderson and Don. Variety noted that while it was not known whether his contract expired with CNN, Toobin&#8217;s exit appeared to be a mutual agreement. “We are grateful for Jeffrey’s contributions to the network over the years and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” CNN said in a statement, via Variety.
Conservatives on Twitter reacted to Toobin&#8217;s announcement, ruthlessly mocking him over the Zoom incident.

A writer for The New Yorker argues in a recent article that a watchdog group vetting Joe Biden&#8217;s nominees is doing so with occasional &#8220;racial overtones,&#8221; and laments the nonprofit&#8217;s &#8220;obstructionism&#8221; of what critics call the president&#8217;s &#8220;radical&#8221; agenda.
The piece, <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/news/a-reporter-at-large/the-slime-machine-targeting-dozens-of-biden-nominees">published</a> Saturday and written by Jane Mayer, is titled &#8220;The Slime Machine Targeting Dozens of Biden Nominees.&#8221; It criticizes the American Accountability Foundation (AAF) — a tax-exempt government oversight and research group — for seeking to &#8220;prevent the approval of all Biden Administration nominees.&#8221;
AAF has played an outsized role since Biden took office, researching and digging into the pasts of his nominees. The group&#8217;s work has contributed to preventing the appointments of Sarah Bloom Raskin to the Federal Reserve Board, David Chipman to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), David Weil to the Department of Labor, and others.
In her piece, Mayer claimed AAF is &#8220;run by conservative white men&#8221; who are &#8220;particularly focused on blocking women and people of color.&#8221;
&#8220;As of last month, more than a third of the twenty-nine candidates it had publicly attacked were people of color, and nearly sixty per cent were women,&#8221; she wrote, failing to mention that many of Biden&#8217;s nominees have been minorities and women.
Mayer also spends a portion of her article on AAF Executive Director and Co-Founder Tom Jones’ apparent contention that the organization is &#8220;merely catching up with the sleazy tactics&#8221; of progressive groups who targeted conservative nominees. She mentions how the Left opposed Supreme Court nominations for Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh — claiming they were &#8220;credibly and directly confronted by female victims,&#8221; even though allegations of sexual impropriety did not hold up.
&#8220;Jane Mayer is a stenographer for [Sens.] Sherrod Brown, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Democrat leadership in the Senate — and they know that AAF has repeatedly shown that their nominees are out of step with American values and unfit to serve in senior positions in the U.S. government,&#8221; Jones told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;While the New Yorker is rarely worth reading, this article is proof positive of AAF’s effectiveness,&#8221; he said.
Mayer claimed that AAF&#8217;s &#8220;attacks&#8221; on Lisa Cook, a Biden nominee to the Federal Reserve&#8217;s Board of Governors who is a black woman, &#8220;carried racial overtones.&#8221; Allegations have surfaced, like that Cook &#8220;embellished&#8221; her resume and engaged in &#8220;academic fraud.&#8221;
Jones called Mayer&#8217;s comments &#8220;ridiculous.&#8221;
&#8220;AAF is opposing Lisa Cook not because she is black but because she is a sub-par academic who did not deserve a promotion at Michigan State and doesn’t deserve one to the Fed. Black, white, Jew, or gentile, if you’re as unqualified as Lisa Cook, AAF will highlight that for policymakers,” Jones said.
Mayer interviewed Chipman for her article — who said AAF makes claims &#8220;adjacent&#8221; to facts. &#8220;The racial things they used were hugely ugly,&#8221; the gun lobbyist told The New Yorker, adding that &#8220;the facts don’t matter to [AAF] — they’re just used as weapons.&#8221;
Chipman told The Daily Wire that the &#8220;resistance&#8221; to successfully getting an ATF director appointed &#8220;is stronger than typical red vs. blue politics,&#8221; noting how former President Donald Trump withdrew his pick of Charles Canterbury. He did not say whether he considered himself more qualified than Biden&#8217;s new nominee, Obama-era lawyer Steve Dettelbach.
It was AAF that provided The Daily Wire with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-failed-biden-nominee-sought-44k-in-relocation-expenses-for-home-he-wasnt-living-at">exclusive court documents</a> in January showing Chipman sought $44,000 in relocation expenses for a home at which he was not living. Prior to this, AAF dug up comments from Chipman on automatic weapons and spoke to sources about an allegation that he lost his weapon as an ATF employee.
The group also spoke to a former ATF agent who said Chipman &#8220;made deeply problematic comments questioning the abilities of African American agents to succeed on their own merits,&#8221; <a href="http://wordpress.bidennoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Chipman-Research-Report.pdf">according</a> to AAF.
The White House told The Daily Wire that it is confident in its new ATF nominee, but did not say whether it determined him to be more qualified than Chipman.
&#8220;If we want to crack down on gun crime and keep our neighborhoods safe, ATF needs a confirmed Director, and Steve Dettelbach has received praise from across the political spectrum as someone who can roll up his sleeves and get the job done,&#8221; White House spokesperson Michael J. Gwin said.
The spokesperson further claimed that Biden&#8217;s new nominee is supported &#8220;across the political spectrum,&#8221; citing President George W. Bush administration personnel backing as evidence of conservative approval.
Mayer declined a request for comment.

The New Yorker has evidenced anti-Israel bias before. In 2018 it ran a headline that read “Israel Kills Dozens of Unarmed Protesters in Gaza as Jared Kushner Speaks of Peace, in Jerusalem.”
<a href="https://www.camera.org/article/the-new-yorker-refuses-to-correct-grossly-misleading-headline/">CAMERA</a>  pointed out, “As the article itself notes, however, the IDF stated that &#8216;the rioters are hurling firebombs and explosive devices at the security fence and at IDF troops and are burning tires, throwing rocks and launching flaming objects with the intention of igniting fires in Israeli territory and harming IDF troops.'&#8221;
“While many other of the &#8216;protestors&#8217; may have been unarmed, it’s unclear how the New Yorker knows whether those killed were armed or unarmed,” CAMERA continued. “The IDF <a href="http://blogs.timesofisrael.com/i-was-at-the-gaza-border-we-did-all-we-could-to-avoid-killing/">follows</a> rules of engagement and does not fire indiscriminately. It seems far more likely, then, that of the tens of thousands of protestors/rioters/those trying to breach the fence, most of the approximately 60 who were killed were the ones who were armed.”
CAMERA <a href="https://www.camera.org/article/the-new-yorker-repeats-btselems-claim-that-israel-is-judaizing-the-land-of-israel/">noted in February</a> that The New Yorker had written a piece about the anti-Israel organization B’Tselem. CAMERA wrote:

The discourse has been untethered from reality, and this undermines the possibility of change.” But it is El-Ad and Gessen who are untethered from reality – Israel has offered Palestinians their independence in  <a href="https://www.camera.org/article/palestinians-rejected-statehood-three-times-claim-frustration-with-israel/">2000, 2001</a>, <a href="http://www.thetower.org/exclusive-olmert-i-am-still-waiting-for-abbas-to-call-will-abbas-ever-say-yes/">and 2008</a>. It is the Palestinians that rejected those opportunities, and who walked away from negotiations again in <a href="https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/.premium.MAGAZINE-exclusive-obamas-plans-for-mideast-peace-revealed-1.5481322">2014</a>.
Gessen also ignores the intifadas and numerous terror attacks that necessitate some of the security measures about which Gessen and B’Tselem complain.</blockquote>

New Yorker Union Uses Phrase That Champions Destruction Of Israel

Staff writer and legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, who was indefinitely suspended from The New Yorker for engaging in a lewd act on a conference call, has been fired from the magazine following an internal investigation into the matter.
New Yorker staff were reportedly informed that Toobin, who was suspended last month, was no longer with the company in a memo this week obtained by <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-new-yorker-fires-jeffrey-toobin-after-investigation-into-zoom-masturbation-incident?ref=home">The Daily Beast</a>.
“I am writing to share with you that our investigation regarding Jeffrey Toobin is complete, and as a result, he is no longer affiliated with our company,” read the memo.
“I want to assure everyone that we take workplace matters seriously. We are committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels respected and upholds our standards of conduct,” read the internal memo, reports the news agency.
In a statement, Toobin acknowledged that he had been fired, but <a href="https://twitter.com/JeffreyToobin/status/1326644658991140866">said</a> he would continue to read the magazine and miss his colleagues. His status as a CNN analyst is not clear.
Vice, citing two sources, <a href="https://www.vice.com/en/article/epdgm4/new-yorker-suspends-jeffrey-toobin-for-zoom-dick-incident">reported</a> last month that Toobin had been caught “masturbating on a zoom video chat” during the juncture of an election simulation.

Toobin publicly apologized to his wife, family, friends and co-workers in a statement to Vice, and called the incident an “embarrassingly stupid mistake.”
“I believed I was not visible on Zoom. I thought no one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video,” he said.
Back in September, Toobin, a legal analyst for CNN, gained attention for dismissing Democrats as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-cnns-jeff-toobin-calls-democrats-wimps-says-theyll-fail-to-keep-rbg-seat-empty">incapable of keeping the Supreme Court vacancy</a> left by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg until after the presidential election.
“There is a difference to how Democrats and Republicans go about these fights and we’ll see if Democrats learn anything from Republicans here. Yes, it’s interesting that Chuck Schumer said nothing is off the table, but that’s not a commitment to do anything,” said Toobin.
Democrats ultimately failed to block the nomination of then-Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, and at least one Senate Democrat, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, has since explicitly told Fox News he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abolish-the-senate-trends-on-the-left-after-democrat-senator-joe-manchin-makes-pledge-during-interview">will not vote to pack the court</a> in response to Barrett&#8217;s confirmation.
“I will not vote to pack the courts. I think — and I will not vote to end the filibuster,&#8221; Manchin told Bret Baier on Fox News this week. &#8220;Bret, this system, the Senate, [this] so unique body in the world, it was made to work together in a bipartisan way. And once you start breaking down those barriers, then you lose every reason that we are the institution that we are, the most deliberate body.”

Former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson scolded The New Yorker this weekend for pushing more COVID-19 &#8220;panic porn&#8221; with hospitalization numbers the magazine later acknowledged were inaccurate.
As highlighted by <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/alex-berenson-ny-times-new-yorker-coronavirus-hospitalizations">Fox News</a>, John Cassidy of The New Yorker published a piece last Friday arguing that parts of &#8220;Red America&#8221; were headed toward a COVID-19 disaster based on hospitalizations in states that relaxed lockdown measures.
&#8220;[In Florida], 12,673 people were hospitalized, compared to the 8,553 a month ago, according to the COVID Tracking Project,&#8221; reported Cassidy.
Berenson called out Cassidy on Twitter for misrepresenting the numbers because those total hospitalizations go all the way back to March and did not shoot up a full 4,000 in a month.
&#8220;It should come as no surprise that the most crucial and scariest fact in this New Yorker piece of panic porn is wrong: [Cassidy] reports that 12,673 people &#8216;are hospitalized&#8217; in Florida with [coronavirus], up 4,000 in a month. Nope&#8230;&#8221; Berenson said. &#8220;12,673 HAVE BEEN hospitalized in Florida since hospitalizations began in March. The vast majority of those patients are home now. Florida has never had over ~2,000 people hospitalized with [COVID-19], 3.5% of its total hospital beds. Which presents a slightly different picture.&#8221;
&#8220;Saddest part is that [Cassidy] is generally a good reporter. And ~13,000 hospitalizations would be a big number — almost as many as NY at the peak. But the media is so in love with the disaster narrative, so ready to believe the worst, that that figure raises no eyebrows,&#8221; he continued.

On Sunday, thanks to pressure from Berenson, The New Yorker edited the piece to say, &#8220;In Florida, 12,673 people have been hospitalized, compared with a cumulative total of 8,553 a month ago, according to the COVID Tracking Project.&#8221;
A note at the bottom of the article now reads: &#8220;A previous version of this piece incorrectly described Florida’s hospitalization count.&#8221;
Berenson scolded the New Yorker for putting the correction at the bottom, &#8220;where no one will see it.&#8221;

Alex Berenson has been at the forefront of the battle against the COVID-19 misinformation fear campaign since the lockdowns gripped the nation.
Speaking with <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/coronavirus-lockdown-strategy-alex-berenson">Fox Nation</a> in May, Berenson said that the evidence increasingly shows that the COVID-19 projections were based on questionable science that has been proven false.
“The virus appears to be less dangerous than we thought it was a month ago,” he told Fox Nation. “The economic devastation and the societal devastation of the lockdowns appear to be greater than even the worst projections were a month ago.”
Berenson then argued that politicians and public health officials put themselves in a difficult situation by implementing such harsh measures without having the evidence to back it up.
“What I think is that people took a very, very aggressive action a month ago without necessarily thinking through what the economic or societal consequences were going to be,” said Berenson. “Now more and more evidence is coming out that we responded too harshly, that maybe we should have taken smaller steps and seen what happened before we went to the place we went. And it seems to me very, very hard, both for politicians and for the public health establishment, to acknowledge this and to walk us back in a reasonable way.”

Former NYT Reporter Alex Berenson Rips New Yorker For COVID-19 ‘Panic Porn’

In a bizarre interview on Sunday, David Remnick, author of “The Bridge: The Life And Rise Of Barack Obama” and editor for The New Yorker magazine, expressed his frustration with Trump voters to CNN’s “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter. 
Responding to a question about whether anything will change following President Trump’s impeachment by House Democrats, Remnick stated that, “We’ve seen the Republicans stuck where they are. Their illusions about Trump remain,” adding that “the stakes here are immense.”
The Media Research Center <a href="https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/nicholas-fondacaro/2019/12/22/new-yorker-editor-future-earth-hangs-trumps-impeachment" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reports</a> that Remnick began to connect the impeachment hearing to the “future” of the planet, thereby linking it to one of the Left’s biggest political issues: Global warming.   
“It’s not just about the political future of one man, Donald Trump — it’s about the future of democracy and democratic process. And this is a trend throughout the world. It’s about the future of the Earth. We have a party that has decided to be disbelieving about climate change. It’s about issues as essential as that,” he said. 
Of course, Stelter did not bother to ask how global warming is somehow connected to the House Democrats’ move to impeach President Trump. Instead, allowing The New Yorker editor to continue to pontificate, Remnick went to discuss how the mainstream media are at a loss as to why President Trump remains popular in certain sectors of the country. 
“Right now, you have a country that is split, and to the great frustration of people like you and people like me, we don’t somehow understand,” he opined. “We don’t understand why the evidence of things, why facts don’t penetrate so many of our brothers and sisters in the United States of America. And it’s a source of great frustration for the press and for anybody who is thinking about these issues that are so important.”
He emphasized, “And this is a source of great frustration for the press. And for anyone who is thinking about these issues that are so important.”
Stelter echoed the sentiments, repeating, “for the press.” He then asked about the “eclipse of reason” of the Republican Party.
“Let’s not be deluded here. It&#8217;s not as if reason and fact and truth-telling were pervasive in any political party, much less the Republican Party. But things have gotten markedly worse,” Remnick answered. “So much of the Republican Party, their candidates, their leadership know the score. Everybody in the Senate and the House knows this is a man of low character, of ethical, of ethics run amuck. &#8230; Nobody in the Republican Party thinks this is a good and decent man. These are people who are looking to their political advantages. They think if they act against him somehow or speak against him, they&#8217;ll lose their seats. So, the only people speaking against him are people set to retire.”
This interview highlights a lack of self-awareness that is prevalent across large swaths of the news industry. As they try to connect global warming to the vote to impeach Trump, many Americans grow weary of such showboating by the press and congressional Democrats. 
The Daily Wire’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/klavan-cnn-accidentally-reveals-that-its-a-cult" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Andrew Klavan</a> has previously commented on the direction of the media and of Brian Stelter’s program, in particular. 
“I mean, it is comical that they can’t see themselves,” he said. “So it drives the Right crazy, it drives me crazy. This is the news. You turn on the news, CNN, the most trusted name in news, but that’s what you see on the news, and it drives you crazy.”
