Legendary screen star Sophia Loren underwent emergency surgery on Sunday after a bad fall at her home in Switzerland and remains hospitalized.
A source confirmed to the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/sophia-loren-hospitalized-injuries-fall-at-home-1235597900/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hollywood Reporter</a> that the 89-year-old Italian star is recovering after having hip surgery. Loren sustained several fractures after falling in her bathroom, including one to her femur.
The source told the outlet that the family remains cautiously optimistic during her recovery. Her sons, Carlo and Edoardo, stay by her side at the hospital, the source added.
Loren&#8217;s agent, Andrea Giusti, told the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/sophia-loren-surgery-italy-geneva-5baa65382685fe6cf9a153d071ea97ce" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associated Press</a> that the actress fell on Sunday, and the surgery was performed later that day. The hospitalization comes days after the Hollywood legend celebrated her 89th birthday on September 20.

Physicists in Switzerland have <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/jan/16/scientists-steer-lightning-bolts-with-lasers-for-the-first-time" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> a way to use lasers to keep lightning away from important structures, but its overall value is still unknown. 
“It is inspiring,” Matteo Clerici, a physicist at the University of Glasgow, <a href="https://www.science.org/content/article/playing-zeus-scientists-use-laser-beam-control-lightning-bolts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. Clerici was not involved in the project. “What will be the application of this? We can only speculate.”
The experimental efforts were completed in 2021 and the research, published on Monday in <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41566-022-01139-z" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nature Photonics</a>, stated that the scientists show “the first demonstration that laser-induced filaments,” which are created by brief, harsh laser pulses, can direct lightning over significant areas of space. 
For years, the way to keep lightning from destroying buildings was to use a lightning rod, which was invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1752, Science <a href="https://www.science.org/content/article/playing-zeus-scientists-use-laser-beam-control-lightning-bolts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>. The metal rod is connected to the top of a structure and then attached to the earth using a wire. The lightning is attracted to the rod and away from the structure. The wire sends the electricity into the ground after the rod is struck by lightning. 
Aurélien Houard, a physicist at the École Polytechnique, told Science that researchers have wondered if lasers could be used to move lightning, too. The idea would be centered around the concept that the laser could establish a straight course of ionized air on which the electric current could more easily transmit. 
Scientists created lasers in the 1990s that put off pulses that only lasted femtoseconds, which are &#8220;quadrillionths (or millionths of a billionth) of a second,” according to MIT <a href="https://news.mit.edu/2012/explained-femtoseconds-and-attoseconds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">News</a>.
The briefer pulses of less energy were better at unlocking channels that were conductive, according to Houard. Parts of the air are ionized by the laser, which can then make a lengthy &#8220;filament.&#8221; This filament can heat up the air, pushing molecules away and making a channel that is more effective at conducting electricity, which attracts the lightning.
Prior attempts in a natural environment of lightning haven’t worked, but experiments in labs have been successful. However, this new team of researchers found a way to make it work in real life. Houard has worked as head of the group, along with Jean-Pierre Wolf, a physicist at the University of Geneva. 
“Although this research field has been very active for more than 20 years, this is the first field-result that experimentally demonstrates lightning guided by lasers,” the published study <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41566-022-01139-z" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>. 
The team put a femtosecond laser on the top of Switzerland’s Säntis mountain beside a communications structure, which gets struck by lightning over 100 times annually.
During their experiments, the group radiated their laser past the tower’s high point during thunderstorms over several months in 2021. Lightning struck the tower four times when the laser was operating, and scientists found that in all of the four strikes, the laser <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/jan/16/scientists-steer-lightning-bolts-with-lasers-for-the-first-time" target="_blank" rel="noopener">changed</a> the lightning&#8217;s path.
Even though the experiments proved that the lightning would follow the laser, such lasers are millions of dollars. However, Houard noted that sometimes, a laser beam might be more attractive than a lightning rod since the laser has the ability to protect more ground.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/switzerland" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Swiss</a> government has rejected the idea of introducing a “third gender” or “no gender” option for official records.
Last week, Switzerland opted not to hop on the “gender identity” ideology bandwagon that its European neighbors have deferred to. Swiss residents will continue to be entered into the nation’s civil registry as male or female, with no exceptions.
“The binary gender model is still strongly anchored in Swiss society,&#8221; the Swiss Federal Council said in response to two proposals from parliament, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/switzerland-gender-a48e05b6e5d0c307b3ead2bdd686f9a5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Associated Press.
&#8220;The social preconditions for the introduction of a third gender or for a general waiver of the gender entry in the civil registry currently are not there,&#8221; it added.
The Associated Press noted that the Federal Council had said that including alternative options for gender markers would require “numerous” changes to the Swiss Constitution and to laws both at the national and state (canton) level.
The process of revising the country’s Constitution is complicated. According to the Swiss Parliament, a partial or complete revision of the Constitution needs to be approved by both a majority of the voters and also a majority of the nation’s 26 cantons.
Switzerland’s political system includes four parties whose views range from left to right and frequent referendums are held on a variety of issues.
Switzerland’s neighboring countries, Germany and Austria, as well as other Western European countries such as Belgium and the Netherlands, have all modified their civil registries to include “third gender” or “no gender” options. In the United States in April 2022, the Biden administration opted to include a &#8220;third gender&#8221; option (“X”) in passports.
Switzerland is known for its no-nonsense, tradition-based culture and adherence to reason and science-based policies. Swiss <a href="https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2022-09-27/a-strong-economy-and-quality-of-life-make-switzerland-best-country-in-the-world" target="_blank" rel="noopener">residents</a> enjoy low unemployment, a stable economy, and one of the highest life expectancies in the world.
Despite how one chooses to “identify,” human sexes come in two varieties: male and female. Biologists who have not been captured by political ideology <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/physicist-gets-slammed-for-promoting-sex-spectrum-pseudoscience" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agree</a> that sex is “real, immutable and binary.” Despite the way that trendy pop-science articles portray sex as a “spectrum” by including the existence of intersex conditions, these disorders of sex development (DSD) do not discount the binary nature of sex.
“‘Actual science’ done by biologists shows 2 sexes, one with small mobile gametes and the other with large, immobile ones,” <a href="https://twitter.com/Evolutionistrue/status/1592224185832837121?s=20&amp;t=wJw4vwUmEOj_OQpsb0CggA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> renowned evolutionary biologist Jerry Coyne in response to one such pop-science representation of sex as a spectrum.
“There is no third sex,” Coyne added. “Disorders of sex development are not new sexes, and biological sex is binary. Let’s not conflate sex, gender &amp; developmental anomalies.”

Switzerland is considering banning electric vehicles for non-essential travel this winter as the continent deals with an energy crisis sparked by Russia&#8217;s war in Ukraine.
The Telegraph <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2022/12/03/electric-car-journeys-could-restricted-switzerland-plan-deal/">reported</a> that government officials have already drafted plans to conserve energy that could include limiting heat in buildings to no more than 68 degrees Fahrenheit and reducing the number of hours stores can be open.
Stricter measures could be enacted, including banning large indoor gatherings like sporting events, concerts, and theatre events, the report said.
Switzerland relies heavily on hydroelectric power, which constitutes nearly two-thirds of its energy supply, the excess of which it exports during the time of year that it can generate the most electricity from rain and snowfall, the report said. It then typically is forced to import energy during the rest of the year as its nuclear resources, which it has been working to phase out, and its fossil fuel resources are not enough to meet demand.

The country has created a two-tier system for dealing with the energy shortage: emergency and crisis.
When in the &#8220;emergency&#8221; tier, there are three levels of restrictions, and in the &#8220;crisis&#8221; tier, there are two levels.
Electric vehicles would face restrictions in the third level of the emergency tier.
In late August, officials in <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> unveiled a plan to phase out new <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/oil-and-gas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gas</a>-powered cars and days later asked residents to avoid charging their <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/electric-cars" target="_blank" rel="noopener">electric vehicles</a> in the interest of not overwhelming the <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/energy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">power</a> grid during a heat wave.
The warnings of low grid capacity came days after the California Air Resources Board <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/california-expected-to-ban-sale-of-new-gas-cars" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued new rules</a> requiring 35% of new vehicles to produce zero emissions by 2026 — a standard that will rise to a 68% benchmark by 2030 and a 100% level by 2035. Yet experts have warned that the state’s electric grid will require significant upgrades to manage a rapid transition away from internal combustion vehicles.
“Today, most people charge their electric cars when they come home in the evening — when electricity demand is typically at its peak,” according to researchers at Cornell University’s <a href="https://www.ece.cornell.edu/spotlights/prepare-grid-now-power-electric-vehicles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College of Engineering</a>. “If left unmanaged, the power demanded from many electric vehicles charging simultaneously in the evening will amplify existing peak loads, potentially outstripping the grid’s current capacity to meet demand.”

Klaus Schwab, founder and sole chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) since its inception in 1971, is the original international man of mystery.
As I noted in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/klaus-schwab-the-world-economic-forum-and-the-new-fascism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Part 1 of this series</a>, research for this project has been the rabbit hole of all rabbit holes, and that is largely because there is almost no meaningful, reliable biographical information available on Schwab himself. One can find facts — “He was born in Ravensburg, Germany in 1938 …” — but almost nothing about the man behind the facts.
In his well-written, interesting, and decidedly Leftist book <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Davos-Man-Billionaires-Devoured-World/dp/0063078309" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Davos Man: How Billionaires Devoured the World</a>, New York Times journalist Peter S. Goodman offers an insider’s perspective on the doings of the rich and famous at the WEF’s annual conference at Davos, Switzerland, an event he has attended for the better part of a decade. 
And yet, in a book that is meant to be an exposé on Schwab and his Forum, Goodman tells us little about Schwab beyond anecdotes:
<blockquote>&#8220;Schwab has frequently told his colleagues that he anticipates receiving a Nobel Peace Prize…. Like the people he gathers annually in the Alps, Schwab is an exemplar of the force of pious words as prophylactic against the consequences of unsavory deeds.&#8221;</blockquote>
And criticisms are mostly petty in nature: 
<blockquote>“When a Forum employee who was late for a meeting once pulled into Schwab’s spot in the parking lot, aware that the boss was overseas, he caught wind of it, and insisted that she be fired …”</blockquote>
It’s not that these stories are meaningless. Goodman’s central criticism is one of elitism and hypocrisy, and these illustrate his thesis. But as far as exposé material goes, it’s pretty thin. Indeed, when it comes to biography, Schwab is like a cardboard cutout: the outline of a man is there, but an enormous hole remains. 
Even so, all of this tells us something important about Schwab: his biography appears to be carefully guarded by an army of monitors.
Consider the <a href="https://www.weforum.org/about/klaus-schwab" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WEF’s “About Klaus Schwab” webpage</a>. It merely lists degrees, honors, books, and so on. Wikipedia, which loves to indulge rumor and speculation of every kind, is rather mum on Schwab. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaus_Schwab" target="_blank" rel="noopener">His entry is roughly 1,400 words</a>, which is about the same word-count for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabrielle_Carteris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gabrielle Carteris</a>, the current president of the Screen Actors Guild. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Floyd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">George Floyd</a> more than doubles Schwab at 3,100 words while the fictional Mr. Bean gets 6,400. 
Wikipedia is a reflection of public interest rather than public importance. In that sense, it’s more like Yelp than Encyclopedia Britannica. Still, for a man who regularly meets with heads of state and expects to be treated like one, this is more than a little curious.
Schwab, it seems, has managed to do what almost every drunk spring breaker has tried to do but couldn’t: scrub something negative about themselves from the internet. Perhaps rubbing elbows with executives in Big Tech has its advantages. Most of what Google prioritizes in search results on the octogenarian is glowing.
You may think I’m just being cynical. But you must remember who we are talking about here. It’s simply unrealistic that a man with Schwab’s oversized ambitions — enact a radical environmental agenda the chief aim of which is reducing the human population globally (to be discussed in Part 3); <a href="https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2022/02/how-insects-positively-impact-climate-change/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">substitute the beef on your menu with bugs</a>; and move the world toward a <a href="https://youtu.be/ffvu6Mr1SVc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">transhumanist</a> future — doesn’t have a few billion enemies. But those people aren’t being given the mic.
If nature abhors a vacuum, human nature delights in filling it. The absence of biographical information about Schwab has given rise to a vast array of conspiracy theories concerning him, his family, and his objectives. In those corners of the internet, Schwab is alternately an anti-Semite and a Nazi, a puppet of some cultic illuminati, or is himself transhuman.
That conspiracy theories about Schwab abound has not gone unnoticed. <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2022/03/31/fact-check-false-claim-world-economic-forum-klaus-schwab/7224196001/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">USA Today</a>, <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/fact-check-was-davos-founder-klaus-schwabs-father-hitlers-confidant-1710381" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsweek</a>, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-factcheck-wef-idUSKBN2AP2T0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reuters</a>, and many others all ran predictable “fact check” stories on the more outlandish of these claims. BBC seized upon these conspiracies as an opportunity to publish <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-57532368" target="_blank" rel="noopener">this bizarre defense of Schwab and his “Great Reset</a>.” In their telling of it, it’s all a rather benign attempt to create a better world. Nothing to see here, people. 
Having <a href="https://youtu.be/SQDXcobRbnU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">my own experience with BBC’s dishonesty</a>, I confess I’m envious of Schwab’s ability to get one of the largest news agencies in the world to serve as his de facto apologists. Must be nice. Most of us have to defend ourselves.
But BBC was attacking a straw man and, as the article makes clear, they were attempting to characterize all opposition to the globalist agenda as part of the MAGA (tinfoil) hat crowd:
<blockquote>&#8220;Believers spin dark tales about an authoritarian socialist world government run by powerful capitalists and politicians—a secret cabal that is broadcasting its plan around the world…. In the hands of a diverse group of online activists, the Great Reset has been transformed from a call to encourage people to think about a sustainable future, to a sinister plot against humanity.&#8221;</blockquote>
How their editors let this pass with a straight face is beyond me. Either BBC has never read Schwab, heard Schwab, or they are in on the plot against humanity. <a href="https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/06/now-is-the-time-for-a-great-reset">Consider this Schwab-ism</a>:
<blockquote>&#8220;To achieve a better outcome [in the post-pandemic era], the world must act jointly and swiftly to revamp all aspects of our societies and economies, from education to social contracts and working conditions. Every country, from the United States to China, must participate, and every industry, from oil and gas to tech, must be transformed. In short, we need a “Great Reset” of capitalism.&#8221;</blockquote>
If your neighbor said this, you’d write him off as a nut. But <a href="https://thehill.com/opinion/energy-environment/528482-john-kerry-reveals-bidens-devotion-to-radical-great-reset-movement/">according to The Hill</a>, the Biden administration has expressed “devotion” to Schwab’s plan. This is about more than putting paper and plastic in the right waste bin. It’s nothing less than a total global overhaul. 
One pictures James Bond uber villain <a href="https://youtu.be/oSACOcLqW0c">Ernst Stavro Blofeld</a> sitting at the head of a long table and petting a cat as he unveils his plot for world domination to the members SPECTRE.

A few mornings ago, I was listening to sports radio as I shaved. At the commercial break, a promo for a Marvel podcast broke through my consciousness:
<blockquote>“The people don’t know what they want. They have to be told what is good for them. And I, Dr. Doom, am the only one who can provide it!”</blockquote>
It is, of course, meant to be the stuff of a comic book. If only it were confined to that universe. Sadly, it now occupies our own.
In an academic paper that inspires the goals of the WEF, and will make an appearance in later installments of this series, we find apocalyptic warnings of every type — global overpopulation most of all. The writers say it will be necessary for leaders to make “appalling” decisions in the future.
Klaus Schwab is confident he and the elitist members of his World Economic Forum are the people for that job.
In Part 3, we will set aside conspiracy theories and focus on the known, the factual. I mean, does one really need to know that Hitler was the son of a civil servant and a fan of Wagner to understand the Holocaust? Mein Kampf was right there for all to read. 
Unfortunately, few bothered.

Today’s question is an important one. Do you believe your government would intentionally harm you?
The question is especially pertinent after recognizing that during COVID the government and Joe Biden were trying to force every single person to inject a new vaccine into their body. Remember when they locked down businesses and wouldn’t let you go to work unless you were vaccinated?
Well now it’s all magically over. How can they just say it’s suddenly over?
It&#8217;s almost almost like it was political, but of course if it was all political, then that begs the question: would our government intentionally harm us?
It can be hard to tell if you don’t understand the way the Left uses language. With the Left, it’s always a game of euphemisms. They can make something horrible sound pretty and something deadly sound flowery.
How can we make death sound flowery? Oh, I know, we’ll call abortion ‘pro-choice.’
What’s a good flowery term for chemically castrating children to make them trans? Let’s call it ‘gender affirming care.’ Lovely.
And don’t forget ‘social justice.’ Why do we feel like we’re skipping through a field of flowers when we say social justice? What they actually mean, though, is Black Lives Matter is outside and they&#8217;re going to burn down the building in the name of social justice.
When it comes to euthanasia, the flowery phrase they like to use is ‘dying with dignity.’ If you believe ‘dying with dignity’ is only about compassion for people with terminal illnesses, think again.
There’s one country where we’re going to hear this phrase a lot more: Canada.
Let me briefly unpack Canada’s history with euthanasia.
Canada used to have a law banning assisted suicide. But in 2015, they reversed that ban and began their slide down a slippery slope. Proponents of the reversal said they were only making assisted suicide available to people who suffer from a terminal illness or whose natural death was ‘reasonably foreseeable.’
Then in 2020, the Canadian parliament went further by enacting Bill C-7, a sweeping euthanasia law that repealed the previous requirements. You no longer had to be in a terminal condition and you no longer had to be facing a ‘reasonably foreseeable’ death. Now you simply had to be someone suffering from an illness or a disability which quote “cannot be relieved under conditions that you would consider acceptable.”
Their new euphemism for it is: Medical Assistance In Dying, or &#8216;MAID.&#8217;
It only took Canadians five years to remove all the barriers to euthanasia, making it widely available. Canadian law allows both the rich and the poor to kill themselves. Either way, now you can ‘die with dignity.’ So, if you’re poor and you can’t seem to achieve a life of dignity, wouldn’t you just rather die?
Now, of course, it is already being abused. Let me give you just one example.
A man with a neurodegenerative disease testified to the Canadian parliament that nurses and a medical ethicist — whatever that is — at a hospital, allegedly tried to coerce him into killing himself by threatening to bankrupt him with extra costs. They also apparently withheld water from him for 20 days. This happened inside of a hospital.
Canada’s state-sponsored media is working hard to make people think this is a good thing, the compassionate thing to do.
Not only that, but Canadian leaders figured out they could save money. Their parliament ran the numbers and discussed the fiscal advantages of Bill C-7. By allowing euthanasia to take place they estimated they could save the country $86.9 million per year.
Now, in case you think this would never happen in America, consider how close our neighbor to the north is. The same debate is also raging across Europe, and Switzerland has already made it legal. 
Lest we forget, two women from Arizona, Susan Ammouri Frazier and Lila Ammouri, perfectly healthy sisters, told their friends and colleagues they were just going on a trip to Europe. They ended up killing themselves through euthanasia in Switzerland. A team of medical professionals assisted the women in killing themselves because they just wanted to die.
So, back to the original question: Do you think your government would intentionally harm you?
We need to deeply consider the answer to that question, because it’s our children who have to grow up in this world we&#8217;re creating.

As Sommaruga pushes fellow citizens to reduce energy consumption by 15% to conserve limited power supplies, she told readers of the Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten that they could “turn off the computer when you don’t need it, or turn off lights, or shower together,” according to a <a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/save-energy-by-showering-together-swiss-told-mr9dq3n6h">report</a> from The Times.
After mockery on social media, Sommaruga amended her remarks — clarifying that the advice was for younger people and acknowledging that “after a certain age, showering together is no longer suitable for everyone.”
Swiss officials recently provoked ire for a policy that could allow the sanctioning of residents who do not follow emergency energy guidelines. According to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/switzerland-may-jail-people-who-turn-heat-above-66-degrees-this-winter">report</a> from Swiss news outlet Blick, the nation’s Federal Law on National Economic Supply permits authorities to fine and imprison residents who consume too much natural gas if rationing becomes necessary.
Among other measures, those who fail to comply with setting their thermostats above 19 degrees Celsius, roughly 66 degrees Fahrenheit, during the winter could receive sanctions between 30 and 3,000 Swiss francs, the equivalent of $31 and $3,090. Those found intentionally violating the statute would receive up to three years in prison, and those found with negligent violations could be forced to pay 180 days’ worth of fines.
Meanwhile, residents would be unable to heat swimming pools, saunas, radiant heaters, or warm air tents under the orders, while hot water would not be allowed to reach temperatures above 60 degrees Celsius, or 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
Ministers in the European Union — of which Switzerland is not a part — are likewise contending with energy prices that have increased <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/european-climate-bureaucrats-are-dooming-the-continent-to-a-very-dark-winter">as much as twentyfold</a> in some member states. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/european-union-social-market-economy-might-redistribute-fossil-fuel-profits">asserted</a> that Russia is responsible for the economic troubles and called for redistributing profits from fossil fuel companies.
“We are proposing a cap on the revenues of companies that produce electricity at a low cost. Several large European manufacturers are shuttering their factories as energy prices climb. The producer price index for industrial products in Germany, the continent’s largest economy, has risen 45.8% year-over-year as of August 2022, according to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany.
