Some LGBT advocates and media have celebrated the first openly transgender athlete to compete at the Winter Olympics as a “<a href="https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2026/02/swedish-skier-elis-lundholm-will-make-history-as-the-first-out-trans-athlete-in-a-winter-olympics/">major milestone</a> in trans sports.”
Elis Lundholm, a woman who identifies as a transgender man, will compete for Sweden at the Milan-Cortina Olympics as part of the ski team. But here’s the interesting part: Lundholm will take part in the women’s category, not the men’s.

The skier began identifying as a transgender man five years ago and <a href="https://www.aftonbladet.se/senastenytt/ttsport/sport/a/j0BoeL/identifierar-sig-som-man-moter-kvinnor-i-os">told</a> the Swedish outlet Sportbladet that she “has never had a problem competing as a woman.” 
Social media users pointed out the implications of Lundholm remaining in the women&#8217;s category, which is based on biological sex under current rules.
“Lundholm is female, identifies as trans, uses he/him pronouns and has not gone through medical transition, competes in the female category,” British professor Jon Pike <a href="https://x.com/runthinkwrite/status/2018270959677968618">posted</a> on X.
“Lundholm is a walking/skiing refutation of the claim that it’s unreasonable to require TiM [Transgender identifying Male] athletes to compete in their sex category,” he said. “It’s said that this is the equivalent of ‘banning them from sport.’ Lundholm competes in the correct sex category, even though this is not the category into which Lundholm identifies, and has ‘no problem with this.’”
Most social media commenters didn’t have an issue with Lundholm competing with other women, noting how the only thing that could make competition unfair is if she had been using testosterone.
Last summer, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee changed its policy to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order banning men from competing against women, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-olympic-committee-bans-men-in-womens-sports">reported</a>. The committee posted an update stating that it would “&#8230;ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment,” consistent with the executive order.
This change followed years of controversy in the world of sports. 
In the 2024 Summer Games, Imane Khelif of Algeria, a boxer who had failed gender tests, dominated the women’s welterweight division and won the gold medal. Khelif’s success in Paris drew outrage across the globe. 
In 2021, trans-identifying man Laurel Hubbard of New Zealand competed against women in weightlifting in the Tokyo Games. Chelsea Wolfe, a man who identifies as a woman, was also at the Tokyo Olympics as a reserve cyclist for the U.S. women’s BMX Freestyle team.

Police said &#8220;around 10 people&#8221; were killed — including the suspected gunman — in a shooting at a school in central <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sweden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sweden</a>, marking the worst mass shooting in the nation&#8217;s history.
Officers were <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/04/europe/orebro-sweden-school-shooting-intl/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> around 12:30 p.m. local time to a campus in Örebro, where a lone gunman allegedly opened fire on dozens of people and then shot himself before coming into contact with authorities, according to a report by CNN.
&#8220;We think he is a lone perpetrator,&#8221; local police chief Roberto Eid Forest added. &#8220;It&#8217;s a terrible event, it&#8217;s exceptional – a nightmare.&#8221;
Forest was not able to provide an exact death toll due to the extensive damage at the crime scene, although he did note that six people were taken to the hospital, with two being in stable condition.
Sweden&#8217;s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson offered condolences to the victims&#8217; families, stating, &#8220;We&#8217;ve today seen brutal, deadly violence against completely innocent people – this is the worst mass shooting in Swedish history.&#8221;
Police said the suspect was not previously known to them and did not appear to have extremist ties or gang affiliation.
Campus Risbergska, the adult education center where the attack occurred, usually sees high pedestrian traffic during the day. However, a teacher at the school noted that on the day of the shooting, many students had finished a national exam and gone home, leaving the building significantly less crowded.
Sweden’s Expressen newspaper interviewed Andreas Sundling, 28, who sheltered in a classroom during the shooting. 
“We heard three bangs and loud screams … now we’re sitting here waiting to be evacuated from the school,” Sundling <a href="https://apnews.com/article/sweden-shooting-adult-education-center-6be99a59fa3404ae296589e60c881f6c?taid=67a25450f4a0e500015229dd&amp;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&amp;utm_medium=AP&amp;utm_source=Twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recounted</a>, via The Associated Press. 
The witness, who was sheltering in a classroom, added that students were told to lock down until law enforcement arrived to secure the area. Police later began evacuating schools adjacent to Campus Risbergska, moving faculty and students to safer locations as officers searched the premises. 
Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf released a statement expressing that he and his family had received the news “with sadness and dismay,” extending condolences to the families of the victims and praying for a swift recovery of the hospitalized students. 
While details surrounding the shooter’s motives remain under investigation, authorities have said there is no current indication of a wider plot.
In 2023, official data showed Sweden experiencing one of the highest rates of gun violence per capita in Europe, and in 2024, at least 40 people were reportedly fatally shot.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sweden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sweden&#8217;s</a> right-wing government said this week that it will drastically increase grants to incentivize migrants to leave the country and go home after citizens have revolted to the flood of migrants.
The once migrant-friendly nation is upping its offer by 35 times to more than $34,000 to those who leave the country, AFP <a href="https://www.barrons.com/news/sweden-wants-to-pay-immigrants-up-to-34-000-to-return-govt-0321aafc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The country has been flooded with migrants over the last 30 years from third-world countries, especially Islamic countries, including Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iran, and Iraq.
New Swedish Migration Minister Johan Forssell told reporters this week that the country was &#8220;in the midst of a paradigm shift in our migration policy.&#8221;
Liberals whined in a government inquiry that sending the message that migrants were not longer wanted in the country would hinder their ability to assimilate into Swedish society. The reason that the political Right in the country wants to send them home is because they are not assimilating to the culture and they drain welfare resources that are intended for the country&#8217;s citizens.

The new policy was announced just two days after Forssell, a moderate, was reassigned from minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, where he gutted the country&#8217;s foreign aid budget, to be its new migration minister, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/13/world/europe/sweden-immigration-reform.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
When Conservative Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson came into office two years ago, he promised to do something about the country&#8217;s immigration problem and its exploding gang problem, which was caused by the migrants. The rightward shift on immigration follows a larger trend across the continent as people embrace hardline stances on immigration as they become increasing angry seeing their societies deteriorate because of migrants.

Greta Thunberg. Remember her? “How dare you go? How dare you!”
She&#8217;s a cretinous little dweeb with the brains of a kumquat. She always was, but we weren&#8217;t allowed to say it because she wasn&#8217;t a teen; she was a child. You can&#8217;t attack a child.
Well, she&#8217;s now been 18 for three years, so we can, indeed, say it.
She was trotted out for years as some sort of moral exemplar because she was under 18, and she mouthed nasty little platitudes about how her elders had ruined the world: “We will hold you accountable.” “How dare you!”
She was treated as a political Joan of Arc. The whole world trembled at her supposed moral superiority, as she called for the impoverishment of nearly all of humanity in the name of the Earth becoming incrementally warmer but slightly less quickly, supposedly.
In reality, Thunberg was always a child-sized Trojan Horse for anti-Western radicalism, socialism, and deindustrialization.

Now the mask is off, and it&#8217;s instructive. On Thursday, Thunberg showed up in a protest in Malmo, Sweden. What was being protested? <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/israeli-singer-ordered-to-stay-in-her-hotel-as-thousands-of-pro-palestine-protesters-swarm-streets-outside" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A singer</a> for the Eurovision contest from Israel.
That singer&#8217;s name is Eden Golan, a 20-year-old young woman — younger than Greta Thunberg — who was just singing a song in a dumb contest they hold in Europe every year that&#8217;s similar to “American Idol.” Her song was called “Hurricane,” which is largely about the reaction of Israelis to the Hamas massacre of Israelis on October 7. 
And she was booed inside the hall. 
Golan’s presence drew thousands of people to protest, including Thunberg, who showed up wearing a keffiyeh, a symbol of solidarity with terrorism.
Thunberg showed up and explained how she was standing against destruction of the environment — and also the Jews, <a href="https://www.npr.org/2024/05/09/1250321318/in-sweden-tens-of-thousands-demonstrate-against-israel-participating-in-eurovisi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">saying</a>, “Once again, young people are leading the way, showing the world how we should react to this.”
12,000 people showed up to yell about the Jews because a Jewish singer performed at an event in Sweden. It’s no surprise it happened in Malmo, which is about 25% Muslim.
In fact, if you flash back to 2022, Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/swedish-pm-says-integration-immigrants-has-failed-fueled-gang-crime-2022-04-28/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported:</a>

Radical Muslims are quite prevalent in Sweden, which is why Jews are not in Malmo. Malmo has basically become a no-go zone for Jews for a reason. One of the chants from the crowd was “Sinwar, we will not let you die,” a reference to Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas, who planned the massacre of over 1,200 Israelis on October 7 and is currently hiding in terror tunnels, allegedly surrounded by 15 hostages in the hope that they will protect him from death.
These protesters want Sinwar to survive because they&#8217;re not just against the war in Gaza, they are in solidarity with Hamas.
That is who Thunberg was marching with.
The army of losers is very large in the West. It includes drag queens who go on BBC to explain they are canceling their Eurovision watch party in order to demonstrate solidarity with Hamas. 
These global losers are fans of Palestinian terrorism who cannot succeed in a meritocracy and emigrate en masse to Europe where they form entire population centers that do not participate in the Western system. They hate the system in which they are given welfare and education and in which they are largely unsuccessful; they are useless socialists who have performed zero service and public value their entire lives but are very angry at capitalism.
People like Greta Thunberg and people who feel marginalized because of their bizarre sexual fetishes and rage against a traditionalist machine are marching together in Malmo against — surprise!— the Jews.
But the Jews here are really just a stand-in for the West because these anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists believe that the Jews control the West. Their entire theory of the world is predicated on an evil belief that failure inherently means victimization, and that success inherently means exploitation.
And because the Jews are disproportionately successful, this means they are disproportionately exploitative. And the United States, according to an argument made by critical race theorists about white people, is where white people built the system for the benefit of whites, which is why whites are so darn successful.
The problem, of course, is that there are other groups that are very successful who are not white. Jews, historically not categorized as white, now have been included in that rubric.
If Jews are disproportionately successful, then they can certainly not be victims, this mob argues. Their argument is that Jews built the system for the benefit of the Jews, and so it&#8217;s perfectly appropriate to beat Jews in the streets or try to mob a Jewish singer on a continent where Jews were slaughtered by the millions a couple of generations ago.
After all, the system has to be destroyed.
This is an army of losers. Losers of the world, unite! That&#8217;s what you&#8217;re watching in Malmo. It&#8217;s what you&#8217;re watching on America&#8217;s college campuses. It&#8217;s what you&#8217;re watching in large precincts of the Democratic National Committee.
It&#8217;s an army of losers, a coalition of losers.
The Jews are just a convenient excuse — and they are just the tip of the spear.
This is the ugliest manifestation of hatred for the West.

It comes ahead of the second semi-final of the 2024 competition, the outlet noted.
Among the anti-Israel protests was climate activist Thunberg, who was seen wearing a keffiyeh — the traditional scarf that has become a symbol for Palestinians — as the protesters called on Golan to be excluded from the annual singing competition, the outlet noted.

In one clip, Thunberg told reporters, &#8220;Young people are leading the way and showing the world how we should react to this.”
However, when pressed why she was there with the protesters, she only would say it was &#8220;good&#8221; as the march took place, the outlet noted.
Some of the banners that could be seen at the protest included one that read, “Welcome to Genocide song contest” and another, “stop using Eurovision to whitewash Israeli crimes,” the report noted.
Lead singer of Five for Fighting, John Ondrasik, also shared a <a href="https://twitter.com/johnondrasik/status/1788670373325935098">post</a> on X about the protests and Golan not being able to leave her hotel room. Following the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7 against Israel, Ondrasik wrote the song “<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDJXo2Gn-ww">OK</a>” and has called out artists who have been silent amid the anti-Semitism raging on college campuses.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) officially added a new member state on Wednesday as Sweden became the 32nd country to join the alliance.
The entry of the Scandinavian country, which borders Russia, comes two years after Russia invaded Ukraine, starting the biggest war on the European continent since World War II.
&#8220;This is a historic day. Sweden will now take its rightful place at NATO’s table, with an equal say in shaping NATO policies and decisions,&#8221; said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. &#8220;After over 200 years of non-alignment Sweden now enjoys the protection granted under Article 5, the ultimate guarantee of Allies’ freedom and security.&#8221;
Article 5 ensures that member states are protected from attacks by requiring all member states to come to the aid of any country that is attacked. The only time that Article 5 has ever been activated was after Islamic terrorists attacked the United States on September 11, 2001.
&#8220;Sweden brings with it capable armed forces and a first-class defence industry,&#8221; Stoltenberg added. &#8220;Sweden’s accession makes NATO stronger, Sweden safer and the whole Alliance more secure. Today’s accession demonstrates that NATO’s door remains open and that every nation has the right to choose its own path.&#8221;
Sweden&#8217;s entrance into NATO marks the end of a nearly 80-year post-World War II era of neutrality for the country.

Sweden is now the second country to join NATO since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the war in Ukraine as Finland <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/major-northern-european-country-to-join-nato-as-tensions-with-russia-rise">joined</a> the organization last year.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that &#8220;everything changed&#8221; for the organization after Russia invaded Ukraine and that &#8220;everything that Putin sought to prevent, he has actually precipitated by his actions, by his aggression.&#8221;

After more than a year of negotiations, Sweden is set to become the 32nd member of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nato">NATO</a>.
The Nordic country broke with nearly 2 centuries of neutrality in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and formally applied for NATO membership in May of that year, alongside neighboring Finland, which also abandoned its longstanding policy of neutrality to join the alliance.
Joining NATO requires the unanimous consent of all current members – while most NATO nations were quick to approve the applications, Finland and Sweden both faced opposition from Hungary and Turkey. Pressure from the rest of the alliance and various concessions appear to have put those objections to rest. Finland formally joined NATO in April 2023. Turkey approved Sweden’s membership bid last month and on Monday the Hungarian parliament also approved it.

Sweden is expected to officially join the organization in a ceremony sometime this week, after all the necessary paperwork has been finalized.
Turkey previously accused the two Scandinavian nations of being soft on Kurdish militants, who have been in conflict with Turkey’s government for decades. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appears to have backed down in exchange for increased weapons sales to his country – including the <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us-says-move-forward-with-transfer-f-16-jets-turkey-2023-07-11/">transfer</a> of American made F-16 fighter jets.
Hungary’s objections appear to have been a response to past Swedish criticism of the Hungarian government under Viktor <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Orb%C3%A1n">Orbán</a>. Hungary’s shift in policy also coincides with an arms deal – Hungary <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/hungary-sign-defence-industry-deal-with-sweden-pm-orban-says-2024-02-23/">purchased</a> four Swedish fighter jets days before ratifying its NATO bid.

The expansion of NATO has been a major point of contention with Russia – one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s stated reasons for invading Ukraine was to prevent the country from joining the Western military bloc and moving its forces to the Russian border. Finland, which, like Ukraine, was also once part of the Russian Empire, has an 830 mile long land border with Russia, and with the accession of Sweden and Finland the alliance will almost totally encircle the Baltic Sea, where the Russian port of St. Petersburg strategic exclave of Kaliningrad are located.
While Russia hasn’t taken direct military action against either nation, relations have cooled considerably between it and the formally neutral nations. Last year the Russian ambassador to Sweden said the country had become a “legitimate target for Russian retaliatory measures” and Finland closed its border with Russia.
&#8220;When it comes to Russia, the only thing we can expect is that they will not like that Sweden is becoming a NATO member,&#8221; Kristersson <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/hungary-set-ratify-swedens-nato-accession-clearing-last-hurdle-2024-02-26/">said</a>. &#8220;What they do in addition to that, we cannot know. We are prepared for all sorts of things.&#8221;

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sweden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sweden</a> is turning to its military to curb violent crime that has soared alongside immigrant gang activity across the country.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced on Friday that he planned to ask the country’s military to step in and aid police in combatting surging shootings and bomb attacks. The prime minister also said he would look into legislation that would give the military greater authority to engage in police activities, according to the <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/6b470a3a-178b-4f9a-95af-2d4a59b4c982" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Financial Times</a>.
The prime minister’s announcement followed remarks he made the day before condemning the surge in violence and saying that Sweden’s immigration policies are largely to blame. Police officials in the Scandinavian country have said the security situation in Sweden is the worst it has been since World War II.
“I cannot emphasize enough how serious the situation is. Sweden has never seen anything like it before. No other country in Europe sees anything like it currently,” Kristersson said Thursday night, according to FT.
“It is political naivete and cluelessness that has brought us here,” he continued. “It is an irresponsible immigration policy and failed integration effort that has brought us here.”
Criminal gangs in Sweden have preyed upon children and teens, enticing or forcing them to commit crimes because the penalties against underage criminals are less severe than against adults.
“Social exclusion and parallel societies feed the criminal gangs. There they can ruthlessly recruit children and train them as future killers,” Kristersson said.
The effort to involve the military in curbing gang violence appears to have drawn support across the political spectrum in Sweden. Before Kristersson, a center-right politician, Sweden’s former Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, who is center-left and in the opposition, <a href="https://www.politico.eu/article/sweden-ex-pm-andersson-urges-send-troops-to-stop-gang-violence/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Thursday that the military should be leveraged against the gangs.
“Surveillance performed by police officers could be carried out by the military. In addition, there is technical know-how with the military that they could assist with,” the former prime minister said. Her comments came after a violent 24 hours in which three people were killed in shootings and bombings.
Earlier in the week, two explosions <a href="https://apnews.com/article/sweden-explosions-gang-violence-hasselby-linkoping-shootings-c7b7f1f907d0bbd662c7e2b33c4cadb6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ripped</a> through buildings in a suburb of Sweden’s capital and Linkoping, 110 miles southwest. The bombs injured at least three people. A Swedish newspaper reported that both explosions are suspected of being connected to gang activity.
National Police Commissioner Anders Thornberg <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/13/sweden-gang-violence-shootings-explosions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> last month that violence across Sweden has reached an “unprecedented scale.”
“Several boys aged between 13 and 15 have been killed, the mother of a criminal was executed at home, and a young man in Uppsala was shot dead on his way to work,” Thornberg said. “Citizens are afraid, insecurity is increasing. And this at a time when we have raised our terrorist alert level in the country.”

Archeologists in Sweden have uncovered 40 stone carvings that they believe date back roughly 2,700 years, according to a <a href="https://www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/vast/ovantade-hallristningsfyndet-i-kville-storsta-vi-har-hittat?fbclid=IwAR0x3EyJSPAIxzpi5C1IQMceAG-KO_LSgWbRlihjoYPu8XwFFsG28xu1Tko" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Swedish news outlet Sveriges Television.  
The petroglyphs, which were covered by a layer of moss, include depictions of people, ships, and animals. They were located near Kville, Sweden, by researchers with the Foundation for Documentation of Bohuslän&#8217;s Rock Carvings in early May. According to researchers, the granite rock that the carvings are on once made up an island, which means whoever carved them would have likely been on a boat or platform, the outlet notes. Today, the rock <a href="https://www.vice.com/en/article/93ka7z/archaeologists-discover-dozens-of-mysterious-ancient-stone-carvings-hidden-under-moss" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sits</a> in a grassy field. 
&#8220;What makes the rock carving completely unique is that it is located 3 meters above today&#8217;s ground level on a steep rock surface which, during the Late Bronze Age, was located on a small island,” the foundation said in a Facebook <a href="https://www.vice.com/en/article/93ka7z/archaeologists-discover-dozens-of-mysterious-ancient-stone-carvings-hidden-under-moss" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a>. “The rock carving must have been made from a boat when the sea level was approximately 12 meters above today&#8217;s sea level.&#8221;

Researchers were first alerted to the rock because of what looked to be manmade lines under the moss, LiveScience <a href="https://www.livescience.com/archaeology/2700-year-old-petroglyphs-depicting-people-ships-and-animals-discovered-in-sweden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Once removed, the depictions — each between 12 and 16 inches — were revealed. One of the carvings shows what researchers believe to be multiple horses, and the largest petroglyph, which measures 13 feet long and depicts a ship, the outlet notes. 
&#8220;On the basis of the repetition of the motifs, it is possible that this collection of figures forms a narrative,&#8221; researcher James Dodd told LiveScience, explaining that similar rock carvings in the region have portrayed a narrative. Dodd explains that the depictions of chariots, carts, and other figures were repeated in the carvings, prompting his belief that it could be a narrative. 
Because of the steepness of the rock on which the petroglyphs are located, researchers were forced to use a platform to study the carvings and perform other archeological work on the find. Martin Östholm, a project manager for the foundation, told LiveScience that to achieve carvings like this, people would strike hard stones on the rock’s surface — exposing a white layer that allows the shape to be visible. One reason for carvings of this type would be a mark of ownership, Östholm explained.

Kville is located in the Bohuslän province on the west coast of the country. The region is <a href="https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/557/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> known for its rock carvings — one area of Bohuslän is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its abundance. The organization says carvings in Tanum, Sweden, roughly 10 miles from Kville, “reveal the life and beliefs of people in Europe during the Bronze Age and are remarkable for their large numbers and outstanding quality.”
The archeologists are planning to continue researching the carvings and the surrounding areas.

A male <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/beluga-whale-alleged-be-russian-spy-appears-have-ashe-schow" target="_blank" rel="noopener">beluga suspected of being trained to be a Russian spy</a> reappeared off the coast of a yet another country, according to a group that tracks the whale.
Hvaldimir, as the whale is known, swam around <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/norway" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Norway</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isrg8IGi4qs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed up</a> in the waters of neighboring <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sweden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sweden</a> where local authorities are helping to look after the creature, the OneWhale organization <a href="https://www.kron4.com/business/press-releases/ein-presswire/636386619/sweden-takes-swift-action-upon-arrival-of-world-famous-spy-whale/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced in a statement</a> Monday.
“After four years of swimming south down the coast of Norway, Hvaldimir – known worldwide as the ‘Russian spy’ beluga whale – is now in Swedish waters,” the group said.
The whale first made headlines in 2019 when it was spotted in Norwegian waters wearing a harness with GoPro camera mounts and clips that said, &#8220;Equipment off St Petersburg,&#8221; <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/30/europe/russian-spy-whale-sweden-scli-intl/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to CNN</a>.
Norwegian intelligence officials conducted an investigation and told <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65753749" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the BBC</a> the whale was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/norwegians-found-beluga-whale-harness-now-they-ashe-schow" target="_blank" rel="noopener">likely trained by the Russian military</a>. Russia&#8217;s Defense Ministry has denied the existence of programs to train sea mammals for surveillance purposes, even though <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/05/30/beluga-spy-whale-hvaldimir-sweden-norway/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Washington Post notes</a> that it published an advertisement several years back seeking to recruit dolphins.
In the years since Hvaldimir showed up in Norwegian waters, the beluga has become a local celebrity. As reported by the BBC, <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65753749" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hvaldimir&#8217;s name</a> combines the Norwegian word for whale, &#8220;hval,&#8221; and the first name of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
OneWhale <a href="https://www.onewhale.org/home/?_gl=1*us179h*_gcl_au*MTg3MDY0OTEzOC4xNjg1NTU0NjM1#meethvaldimir" target="_blank" rel="noopener">says on its website</a> that Hvaldimir likes to hang around industrial salmon farms, but a &#8220;dramatic&#8221; increase in unregulated tourism aimed at the whale has led to the creature being injured by boat propellers and fishing hooks.
Hvaldimir &#8220;is a friendly, tamed, displaced, formerly captive whale who relies on humans for social interaction. Belugas are highly social whales and he has been living all alone the past four years,&#8221; the group said in its Monday statement.
Sebastian Strand, a marine biologist with OneWhale, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/may/29/suspected-russia-trained-spy-whale-reappears-off-swedens-coast" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told The Guardian</a> that Hvaldimir, who is believed to be between 13 and 14 years old, is at an age where hormones are &#8220;very high&#8221; and therefore the whale may be searching for other belugas.
Now, according to the OneWhale, there are plans to move the whale north to arctic waters and the group is working with the Norwegian port city of Hammerfest to create a reserve to hold Hvaldimir until he can be released back into a wild beluga population.
“Hvaldimir’s situation remains an extremely vulnerable one as Sweden is a highly populated country, but we are very grateful Swedish authorities have quickly taken action to care for the whale,&#8221; said OneWhale President Rich German.

Earlier in May, a group of climate protesters poured diluted charcoal in Rome&#8217;s Trevi Fountain to protest fossil fuels, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rome-mayor-says-climate-activists-cause-environmental-damage-after-turning-trevi-fountain-water-black-using-charcoal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Their actions turned the water black and might have caused permanent damage to the world-famous fountain.
