Someone is impersonating President Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles, in texts and phone calls — and the FBI is investigating.
Wiles, who is the first female chief of staff  in U.S. history, has revealed contacts were hacked from her personal, not her government, cellphone, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/federal-authorities-probe-effort-to-impersonate-white-house-chief-of-staff-65da0d59" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a> reported. Other top officials in the Trump administration were contacted via the fake identity.
“The FBI takes all threats against the president, his staff, and our cybersecurity with the utmost seriousness,” FBI Director Kash Patel stated. “Safeguarding our administration officials’ ability to securely communicate to accomplish the president’s mission is a top priority.”
Government officials believe that artificial intelligence was used in the fake messages.
“It became clear to some of the lawmakers that the requests were suspicious when the impersonator began asking questions about Trump that Wiles should have known the answers to—and in one case, when the impersonator asked for a cash transfer, some of the people said,” the Journal wrote. Another clue leading to suspicion was the broken grammar used by the impersonator.
On May 15, the FBI issued a <a href="https://www.ic3.gov/PSA/2025/PSA250515" target="_blank" rel="noopener">public service announcement</a> regarding attempts to impersonate U.S. officials, stating:

If you receive a message claiming to be from a senior US official, do not assume it is authentic. The malicious actors have sent text messages and AI-generated voice messages — techniques known as smishing and vishing, respectively — that claim to come from a senior US official in an effort to establish rapport before gaining access to personal accounts.
One way the actors gain such access is by sending targeted individuals a malicious link under the guise of transitioning to a separate messaging platform. Access to personal or official accounts operated by US officials could be used to target other government officials, or their associates and contacts, by using trusted contact information they obtain. Contact information acquired through social engineering schemes could also be used to impersonate contacts to elicit information or funds.

Wiles served as Trump’s 2016 Florida campaign director, later rising to become the CEO of his “Save America” PAC in 2021 and then senior adviser to his 2024 campaign. “There is nobody, I think, that has the wealth of information that she does. Nobody in our orbit. Nobody,” Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio told <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/04/26/susie-wiles-trump-desantis-profile-00149654" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Politico</a>. “She touches everything.”

Donald Trump&#8217;s incoming chief of staff, Susie Wiles, is determined to have a drama-free White House comprised of hard-working staff who don&#8217;t seek the spotlight.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t welcome people who want to work solo or be a star,&#8221; Wiles <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/01/06/axios-interview-susie-wiles-trump">told Axios in an interview this week</a>. &#8220;My team and I will not tolerate backbiting, second-guessing inappropriately, or drama. Wiles, who was Trump&#8217;s 2024 co-campaign manager and will be the first female White House Chief of Staff, has become one of Trump&#8217;s most trusted advisors. Under her leadership, his campaign had fewer leaks than in the past and sailed to victory in 2024 — but she shies away from taking credit, even refusing to speak on Election Night when prompted by Trump.

Wiles told Axios that the most critical period of the Trump administration will be between the inauguration and the 2026 midterms, while Republicans have full control of Congress. Trump&#8217;s plan includes &#8220;getting off to a quick start and staying on that pace, together with an expectation of excellence every day,&#8221; she said.

Trump&#8217;s first administration &#8220;had an enviable level of accomplishment&#8221; despite &#8220;impeachment attempts and other witch hunts,&#8221; Wiles added, telling Axios, &#8220;I have every hope that the 47 administration will not have the same number of attempts to put sand in the gears. We are off to a fast start with congressional work, hiring the best people, preliminary discussion with heads of state, fine-tuning his policy agenda, and planning for the first 100 days.&#8221;
Trump now has a much better understanding of how &#8220;Washington institutions work,&#8221; she elaborated, as she discussed how this administration will be different from Trump 45, &#8220;especially the need to have people who are serving be both competent and loyal.&#8221;
&#8220;He has taken a keen interest in personnel and has personally interviewed and hired all the Cabinet and many sub-Cabinet hires,&#8221; she noted.
&#8220;He engaged fully with hiring,&#8221; Wiles continued. &#8220;He interviewed the Cabinet leadership, and made it clear his priorities for White House and agency staff.  We set timelines and held ourselves accountable for the deadlines we set. President Trump 47 will have the finest public servants available with great work ethic, a demonstrated ability to break down bureaucratic walls to help hold the bloated federal workforce accountable, have fealty to the conservative and common-sense principles that President Trump ran — and won — on, and be determined to make a difference during their time serving.  We are cognizant of a turning clock — much to do.&#8221;
The 2025 West Wing will be a mix of new and old staff, she went on, noting that many of these staff are young.
&#8220;All are prepared to work punishing hours,&#8221; Wiles added. &#8220;To my core, I believe in teamwork. Anyone who cannot be counted on to be collaborative, and focused on our shared goals, isn&#8217;t working in the West Wing.&#8221;

Trump instructed his team to be &#8220;smart with hiring,&#8221; she said, reminding his team to remember what he promised the American people he would do: &#8220;Set goals and then exceed them in every area, with every staff member.&#8221;
Wiles drew on her experience on the campaign trail as she explained her attitude towards the White House.
&#8220;I cannot stress teamwork and mutual support enough,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It&#8217;s not magic — set goals and timelines for me and the team and then work to exceed them. Simple, yes, but this worked quite nicely on the campaign.&#8221;

I am unaccustomed to this level of optimism. The bottom line is: I&#8217;m optimistic because President Trump keeps making good decisions.
We were told Donald Trump was going to come into office and immediately staff up complete idiots around him. It’s almost as though those were myths, all untrue — though we were told that by the most intelligent people. As they said, Trump had fired people like General James Mattis. After all, Trump had been at odds with so many members of his prior administration, there would be no one left. He would be forced to dip into the bottom of the barrel, they said.
But thus far, I see precisely zero evidence that is the case. The people who are apparently doing the staffing on a wide variety of issues include people like the vice president of the United States elect, JD Vance. Trump-world insiders like Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Susie Wiles are on that team. Brian Hook, who is involved in foreign policy, is as well. In other words, the people who are going to go into the Trump administration are not going to be jokers. They are going to be very serious people with very serious portfolios.
Late yesterday, Donald Trump announced he would be tapping his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, as the White House chief of staff. Wiles, a very serious person, is well-respected on all sides of the political spectrum inside the Republican Party. Everyone from Jeb Bush all the way to Donald Trump has endorsed Wiles as chief of staff.
She&#8217;s a very serious politico. She has worked not only with Trump, but with Rick Scott when he was governor of Florida and with Governor Ron DeSantis when he was running for governor of Florida. Then she went back into the Trump campaign. She is wily, savvy, and knife-sharp. She is an exceptionally solid political fighter.
The Wall Street Journal article covering Trump’s announcement of White House chief of staff, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/trump-taps-campaign-co-manager-susie-wiles-as-white-house-chief-of-staff-c95f93b3?mod=hp_lead_pos1">reads</a>, “Susie Wiles, who led Donald Trump’s presidential run, will become his White House chief of staff when he retakes the presidency next year, the campaign said Thursday, making her the first woman to hold that role in U.S. history.” Remember when, according to Mark Cuban, Trump wouldn&#8217;t surround himself with strong women? Yet Wiles is, indeed, a strong woman.
Trump said in <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/11/07/donald-trump-susie-wiles-chief-of-staff-00188346">a statement</a>, “Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns. Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.&#8221;

Wiles keeps her cards real close to the vest. She is incredibly savvy, and she is not the type of person who is going to take kindly to people who do not have Team Trump&#8217;s best interests at heart. So she is an excellent pick by President Trump. And again, she&#8217;s well respected on pretty much every side of the Republican political spectrum.
Now, the question as to how she negotiates in Congress is still open. Usually the chief of staff has a lot of congressional negotiations. The good news for her is that while she doesn&#8217;t have tons of experience at doing that — because again, she was campaign manager in 2016 and 2020 in part, and she didn&#8217;t really involve herself in legislative affairs — she will be negotiating with Mike Johnson in the House.
In the Senate, the Senate leadership battle is still wide open at this point. There&#8217;s a lot of speculation about who is going to take over as the Senate majority leader because Mitch McConnell has announced he&#8217;s going to step down. There are some rumors that Rick Scott, for example, is trying to run for it. There are more than rumors, he does want the Senate majority leadership position.
There are some members of the base who are very hot on Scott, so he&#8217;s a possibility. John Thune is also a very solid possibility. Most of the more established members of the U.S. Senate are probably going to back Thune or John Cornyn. Honestly, any of those people will be perfectly capable of negotiating with President Trump and will do a fine job in that role.
Meanwhile, President-elect Trump and his senior advisers are privately assembling short lists of candidates for top jobs in the incoming administration. Apparently, Trump&#8217;s transition team, according to the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/donald-trump-cabinet-transition-president-42989f5b?mod=hp_lead_pos1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wall Street Journal</a>, is being “led by co-chair Howard Lutnick, who is overseeing personnel” and “has put together spreadsheets with names for the former president to consider.”
Among the people who are being considered for national security adviser is Richard Grenell. We all know him as Trump&#8217;s former ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence. Grenell would do an amazing job in that role. The Wall Street Journal goes on: “Other potential candidates include Keith Kellogg, an octogenarian, retired three star Army general and former national security advisor to vice President Mike Pence; former Defense Department official Elbridge Colby; and Robert O’Brien, who served as the last of four national security advisers during Trump’s first term.”
Some of the people mentioned for secretary of the treasury include “Key Square Group founder Scott Bessent, and billionaire investor John Paulson.” A few of the possibilities mentioned for secretary of state are Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee, as well as Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. Both of those would be excellent picks.
Other potential candidates include O&#8217;Brien, Grenell, and former senior State Department official Brian Hook, who is largely seen as the person compiling lists on who precisely should go into the foreign policy establishment. Hook has been speaking publicly about what the administration&#8217;s Iran policy is, and it is already bearing fruit. They haven&#8217;t even taken office yet and action is already happening to bring down conflicts in the Middle East.
As far as secretary of defense, some of the names that have been thrown out are Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who Trump acknowledged in his victory speech in Florida Wednesday morning.
Republican Representative John Ratcliffe, who has served as Trump&#8217;s director of national intelligence, is being put forward as a candidate as head of the Department of Defense or CIA. Mike Waltz, a congressman from Florida, is being considered as a possible DOD leader. For Homeland Security, Chad Wolf’s and Tom Homan’s names are being mentioned, both of whom would be great. The bottom line is: All of these names would be not just acceptable, but also excellent.
Furthermore, the markets are picking up on this, and “Washington’s open for business,” as <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/11/07/trump-elon-musk-business-tax-cuts">Axios</a> puts it. Marc Andreessen, an investor who backed President Trump in this race, tweeted out this morning that he believes that we are going to be seeing unprecedented economic growth. He <a href="https://x.com/pmarca/status/1854768973306630479">says</a>, “America is an economic coiled spring. We should be growing at least 4% annually and ideally 6-8%+. Growth has been brutally suppressed since before I was born. But there is so much to build. And the payoff for all Americans will be incredible.”
That is the mood in the business community. As Axios reports, “Buckle up. President-elect Trump plans fast action on a business-friendly agenda of tax cuts, deregulation and expanded energy production, his advisers tell us.”

This all has a downward effect on inflation, because with more productivity comes more supply which then keeps up with demand; then, prices drop. Deregulation means more investment, it means economic growth, it means more innovation. “Trump plans to load his White House and Cabinet with business- and tech-friendly executives, and stretch the powers of the presidency to force quick changes,” Axios writes. “Trump advisers believe in retrospect that they wasted early opportunities in his first term” because they did not know how to staff.
This is the nice thing for Trump’s second term. They know exactly who they have to fire. Trump is going to take office with a triumvirate. He&#8217;ll have the House and the Senate. He&#8217;s going to fill his top ranks with actual business leaders. The courts and leaders are going to support him.
The people picking staff include Elon Musk, Marc Andreessen, David Sacks, and Joe Lonsdale. What a team that&#8217;s going to be. You want to talk about growing the economy? You want to talk about a productivity explosion? You want to talk about people who know how to build businesses and know how markets work?
You&#8217;re not going to do better than that group of people.

Following his landslide election victory, President-elect Donald Trump tapped his campaign co-chair, Susie Wiles, to serve as White House Chief of Staff.
Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-names-first-ever-female-white-house-chief-of-staff" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on Thursday that Wiles would transition from leading his campaign to helping him lead the country as she is set to become the first female White House Chief of Staff in history. The president-elect described Wiles as &#8220;tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected.&#8221;
Wiles is a relatively unknown figure in mainstream America, but she has been instrumental in two Trump victories and was also behind Rick Scott&#8217;s and Ron DeSantis&#8217; gubernatorial election victories in Florida.
The 67-year-old is the daughter of former NFL player and longtime broadcaster Pat Summerall. She got her start in politics in 1979, working as an assistant for New York Republican Congressman Jack Kemp, who was also a former NFL player. From there, Wiles went on to work for Ronald Reagan&#8217;s 1980 presidential campaign as a scheduler and served in the Reagan administration. After a few years in the Reagan White House, Wiles started her political consulting career in northeast Florida, where she is from, CNN <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2022/08/08/politics/susie-wiles-donald-trump-2024-campaign/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Wiles married Lanny Wiles, a Florida Republican political operative, in 1985, with whom she shares two children. They divorced in 2017. Throughout the 1990s, Susie Wiles served as the chief of staff for Jacksonville Mayor John Delaney and then advised Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton from 2004 to 2009.
In 2010, after Rick Scott launched a late bid for Florida governor, Wiles was asked to help.
“We told her, ‘Hey, we got a guy nobody knows, we’re behind by 50 points, come join us,’” said Curt Anderson, a top strategist with Scott&#8217;s campaign, according to CNN. “She was able to immediately come in and bring a level of organization that kept people on task.”
Scott <a href="https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/elections/2010/results/florida.html?module=inline" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won</a> the 2010 gubernatorial election by just over one percentage point and served two terms as governor before becoming a U.S. senator.
In 2011, Wiles was hired as the presidential campaign manager for Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, whose 2012 bid was short-lived. She later helped with Republican nominee Mitt Romney&#8217;s campaign in Florida. Romney lost the state by less than a point to then-President Barack Obama.
Wiles wasn&#8217;t done after the two failed campaigns, however. She was again called on in the 2016 cycle when Trump became the Republican nominee. Wiles was tapped in September of 2016 to run Trump&#8217;s campaign operation in Florida, a state he flipped on his way to an upset victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Wiles went on to help Trump-endorsed candidate for governor of Florida, DeSantis, narrowly defeat Democrat Andrew Gillum in 2018. During the 2020 campaign, however, Wiles and DeSantis <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/who-is-susie-wiles-trumps-next-white-house-chief-of-staff" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> had a falling out, and the Trump campaign <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/11/07/5-things-you-need-to-know-about-susie-wiles-00188391" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cut ties</a> with her at DeSantis&#8217; urging. While Trump still won Florida by a convincing margin in 2020, he dropped multiple swing states before losing the election to President Joe Biden.
Wiles was brought back to help Trump in the 2024 race. She was named the CEO of Trump&#8217;s Save America PAC in 2021 and became the co-chair of Trump&#8217;s election campaign. She was <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/susie-wiles-trump-cabinet-chief-of-staff-net-worth-b2643600.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described</a> by The Hill as “the most powerful Republican you don’t know,&#8221; and The New York Times reported that she was “perhaps the most significant voice inside Mr. Trump’s third presidential campaign.&#8221;
Trump wasted no time after his 2024 victory to name Wiles as his chief of staff.
“Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again,” Trump said. “It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”

President-Elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> announced on Thursday that he has selected his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, to be his White House chief of staff.
&#8220;Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,&#8221; Trump said in a statement. &#8220;Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected.&#8221;
&#8220;Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.&#8221;

Wiles, 67, became only the second woman in history to successfully manage a presidential campaign after Trump won this week.
The only other woman to successfully manage a presidential campaign was Kellyanne Conway, who ran Trump&#8217;s first bid for president.

The reaction to Trump&#8217;s pick was positive among some of Trump&#8217;s top supporters.
&#8220;Oh, great pick,&#8221; said CNN political analyst Scott Jennings. &#8220;I think what was said in the statement is absolutely true. She’s universally respected in the party. The organization of the campaign and the fact that he stuck with the leadership team all the way through, I think, is a testament to just what a great job that she did.&#8221;
Jennings continued, &#8220;Being the first female chief of staff in the White House, I think is a huge marker for both President Trump and the Republican Party, so, I think if she can bring the kind of discipline and organization to the White House that she just ran this campaign with, Donald Trump has got a really good chance to get off to a great start and begin achieving objectives right out the way, so you&#8217;re going to get a lot of — you’re going to get a lot of atta boys across the Republican spectrum for picking Susie Wiles tonight.&#8221;
Neurosurgeon and former Trump official Ben Carson said, &#8220;As someone who has worked with Susie Wiles firsthand, I have the utmost respect for her and commend the President for this fantastic Chief of Staff selection.&#8221;
