Oscar winner Susan Sarandon has been dumped by her agency UTA after making incendiary comments about Jews in the wake of the Hamas massacre of Israelis on October 7, according to a new report from Page Six.
On November 17, at a a pro-Palestinian rally in New York, Sarandon claimed American Jews frightened by anti-Semitism around them were “getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country.” She also joined the crowd in chanting “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” the mantra calling for a genocide against Jews in Israel.
“A UTA spokesperson told Page Six Tuesday the agency is no longer representing Sarandon,” Page Six <a href="https://pagesix.com/2023/11/21/celebrity-news/susan-sarandon-dropped-by-uta-over-anti-jewish-rant/?_gl=1*2pxw9a*_ga*MjA0MzMwNDMwNS4xNjkxNzcwMDE4*_ga_0DZ7LHF5PZ*MTcwMDU4NjUyOS4xOTMuMS4xNzAwNTg2NTY1LjAuMC4w&amp;_ga=2.18763708.466491996.1700496399-2043304305.1691770018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Tuesday, adding, “Sources say several staffers at UTA were extremely hurt by Sarandon’s comments.”
After Sarandon’s comments, an American Muslim reformer who has confronted radical Islam ripped her in a Twitter thread.
“Let me tell you what it means to be Muslim in America,” Muslim reformer Asra Nomani — who has worked as a correspondent for the Wall Street Journal, where she befriended the late Daniel Pearl, who was executed by Islamic terrorists — responded. “Let me give you ‘a taste’ of what it ‘feels like” to be a Muslim in America: My dad didn’t have to become a second-class indentured servant to one of the many tyrants of Muslim countries that use immigrants from India, like my family, as essential slaves.”
After citing the history of how her father got his PhD at Rutgers, then a job as an assistant professor of nutrition at West Virginia University, Nomani noted, “He got rejected first for tenure but being Muslim in America meant he got a right like everybody got — his right to appeal and guess what? He won and he became a full professor.”

The 77-year-old actor opened up about the ongoing actors strike after the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/actors-go-on-strike-heres-what-that-means-for-your-shows-and-movies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists</a> voted to strike three months ago over a variety of issues, one which has to do with what she called the &#8220;threat of artificial intelligence&#8221; on actors&#8217; careers, calling it &#8220;a now or never situation,&#8221; the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/susan-sarandon-interview-sag-aftra-strike-1235613424/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hollywood Reporter</a> reported.
&#8220;It scares me if it means taking someone&#8217;s image, using it in perpetuity in any film you want without the actor having control anymore,&#8221; Sarandon said. &#8220;Going in this direction, I don&#8217;t know if we should copyright our voices or ourselves.&#8221;

One of the sticking points that initially led (SAG-AFTRA) to join the Writers Guild of America&#8217;s (WGA) strike in July was the studios&#8217; response to <a href="https://www.sagaftrastrike.org/post/sag-aftra-on-strike" target="_blank" rel="noopener">artists</a> concerns to institute &#8220;protections against the existential threat AI poses to their careers,&#8221; the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/ai-jobs-studios-hire-1235545491/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hollywood Reporter</a> noted.
While writers worried that studios&#8217; use of things like ChatGPT — to write or rewrite scripts — would take away jobs from producers, writers and more, the actors are more concerned with their images and voices being digitally reproduced and used without their consent in future projects. WGA <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/wga-members-ratify-3-year-deal-with-studios-officially-ending-strike" target="_blank" rel="noopener">officially ended</a> their strike on October 10 after the writers ratified a proposed three-year contract that addressed writers&#8217; concerns.

Susan was 20 at the time and said her parents disapproved of them marrying for a few reasons. “What happened was, we said, &#8216;Look, I wanna move out, and we&#8217;re gonna live together.&#8217; And you definitely couldn&#8217;t do that unless you were married at that time, back in the Middle Ages at a Catholic college,&#8221; she said.

The Academy Award winner clarified that her parents &#8220;loved Chris,&#8221; but &#8220;suddenly something happened” that made them averse to the nuptials. She said her mom was pregnant at the time.
&#8220;I think she was embarrassed,&#8221; Susan explained. &#8220;She was 44. She didn&#8217;t say that, she just said, &#8216;No, now you can&#8217;t get married.'&#8221;
The actress asked if having a small wedding would make a difference but her mom allegedly said, &#8220;&#8216;No, if I say you can&#8217;t get married, you can&#8217;t get married.'&#8221;
Susan went ahead with the ceremony and recalled how her mom &#8220;was in a black raincoat, sitting at the back of the church for like 10 minutes.&#8221;
&#8220;And none of my siblings could come except my brother that was right under me, who insisted upon coming,&#8221; the “Thelma &amp; Louise” the actress added. &#8220;And luckily he hooked up with one of the bridesmaids, so it was a very successful trip.&#8221;

Actress Susan Sarandon, an ardent leftist during her professional life who routinely retweets other ardent leftists, posted a message on social media akin to the message that actress Gina Carano posted in early 2021 that got her canceled.
In early 2021, Carano, then starring in Disney’s “The Mandalorian,”  posted a message on Instagram to illustrate her feelings about the hate directed toward political conservatives. She posted a photo with the caption:

The very next day Lucasfilm <a href="https://gizmodo.com/gina-carano-is-no-longer-a-part-of-star-wars-1846244896">issued a statement</a> saying, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
The same day, UTA<a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/the-mandalorian-star-gina-carano-fired-amid-social-media-controversy-4131168/"> dropped</a> Carano as a client.
Carano was fired on February 10, 2021. Two days after she was canceled, Carano <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gina-carano-to-produce-and-star-in-upcoming-film-for-the-daily-wire">announced a partnership</a> with The Daily Wire in a deal where she could produce and star in her own film.
“I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob,” Carano said. “I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

Sarandon has long been outspoken about her left-of-center views but appears to heap criticism on both Republicans and Democrats. Now the actress is one of many people sharing clips of the homeless crisis currently exploding in major metropolitan areas around the country, especially in California.
The “Thelma &amp; Louise” star was a supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and the Biden-critical socialist Ryan Knight. She’s known for speaking her mind and angering some centrist Democrats for not supporting their chosen candidates, including Hillary Clinton.
During the 2016 presidential election, Sarandon endorsed Green Party candidate Jill Stein instead of Clinton.
“It wasn’t a protest vote. Following Bernie wasn’t a protest,” she told <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/nov/26/susan-sarandon-i-thought-hillary-was-very-dangerous-if-shed-won-wed-be-at-war" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Guardian</a> at the time. “Well, I knew that New York was going to go [for Hillary]. It was probably the easiest place to vote for Stein. Bringing attention to working-class issues is not a luxury. People are really hurting; that’s how this guy got in. What we should be discussing is not the election, but how we got to the point where Trump was the answer.”
“I did think she was very, very dangerous. We would still be fracking, we would be at war [if she was president]. It wouldn’t be much smoother. Look what happened under Obama that we didn’t notice,” the actress continued.
Sarandon is currently starring in the Fox series “Monarch” alongside some conservatives, such as co-star Trace Adkins. Slowly but surely the industry pulled back on the issue it once clung to like a statue on Oscar night. Industry players pled allegiance to the woke state, canceled problematic art (and each other), and demanded that a sitting president get bounced from social media.
Late night comics even chuckled as <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/dr-seuss-stephen-colbert-late-show-racist-b1811462.html">beloved authors like Dr. Seuss</a> got the cultural boot.
It wasn’t always this way.
Hollywood once championed free speech on a variety of platforms. The industry understood the vital role speech plays in both the country at large and for their craft. Let’s look back at five times Hollywood embraced free speech and hope Tinsel Town comes to its senses and renews its love affair with free expression.
<h4>“The American President”</h4>
The 1995 rom com imagined a single U.S. leader falling in love with a lobbyist (Annette Bening). That novel twist combined with the impressive pairing of director Rob Reiner (“This Is Spinal Tap”) and writer Aaron Sorkin (“A Few Good Men”) earned raves from critics.
The film’s emotional finale used free speech as <a href="https://www.americanrhetoric.com/MovieSpeeches/moviespeechtheamericanpresident.html">a cudgel against the protagonist’s political opponent.</a>

…America isn&#8217;t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You&#8217;ve gotta want it bad, &#8217;cause it&#8217;s gonna put up a fight. It&#8217;s gonna say, You want free speech? Let&#8217;s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who&#8217;s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.&#8221; </blockquote>
Reiner and Sorkin were, and remain, two of Hollywood’s most outspoken liberals. Would they pool their talents for a message like that today? That’s rhetorical, since Reiner was one of many <a href="https://twitter.com/robreiner/status/1400875366047043585?lang=bg">cheering President Donald Trump’s social media banishment.</a>
Guess we won’t be seeing &#8220;The American President 2” anytime soon.
<h4>Neil Young&#8217;s 2006 “Freedom of Speech” Tour</h4>
It’s an understatement to say that veteran rocker Neil Young was <a href="https://genius.com/3351240">no fan</a> of President George W. Bush during the Iraq War days And he had plenty of A-list company. Young similarly rebelled against efforts to silence the president’s critics during a time of war.
Toward that end, <a href="https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2022/02/02/crosby-stills-nash-young-csny-spotify-boycott-joe-rogan">Young rejoined</a> David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash to promote free speech and <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/flashback-neil-young-participated-freedom-of-speech-tour-censorship-joe-rogan">reaffirm his right to protest as he saw fit</a>.

And those people have got a voice, and they have a reason for feeling the way they do. They strongly believe in the convictions. They believe in the military … they believe that we’re doing the right thing for the world, and they have every reason to be respected for their beliefs.”</blockquote>
Flash forward to 2022 and Young is leading an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/just-in-spotify-to-pull-neil-young-music-after-ultimatum-letter-demanding-rogan-be-removed">unsuccessful charge to silence</a> Spotify superstar Joe Rogan for sharing pandemic information that didn’t mirror government-approved narratives.
<h4>Tim Robbins versus Dubya</h4>
Young wasn’t the only liberal rallying for free speech during that era. Actor Tim Robbins similarly <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/article/Tim-Robbins-pours-his-anger-into-an-anti-war-play-2510013.php">protested</a> Bush’s war efforts, a move that <a href="http://www.espn.com/mlb/news/2003/0409/1536711.html">cost</a> him an appearance at a “Bull Durham” reunion.
The 1988 baseball romance cast Robbins as “Nuke” LaLoosh, a flame-throwing pitcher struggling to get his mental approach in line with his talents. His anti-war comments, along with those of his co-star Susan Sarandon (Robbins’ partner at the time), convinced the Baseball Hall of Fame to <a href="https://ew.com/article/2003/04/10/cooperstown-disinvites-antiwar-sarandon-robbins/">disinvite the duo from its 15th anniversary celebration</a> for the film.
Robbins teamed up with the ACLU, an organization which once stood proudly on behalf of free speech rights, to <a href="https://www.nyclu.org/en/letter-baseball-hall-fame-over-cancellation-bull-durham-movie-anniversary-celebration">blast the decision</a>. The move “reflects a disregard for the value of dissent in a free society. Indeed, you offer a vision of free speech that is deeply incompatible with the concept of ‘uninhibited, robust and wide open’ debate – a concept that is basic to our democracy.”
<h4>Comedy Post 9/11</h4>
Comedians played an important role in the days and weeks after the September 11 attacks. “Saturday Night Live” and “The Late Show with David Letterman” gently <a href="https://www.today.com/popculture/how-late-night-tv-reacted-9-11-impact-it-has-t229754">brought humor back </a>into our lives after the shocking terrorist attacks. They made it acceptable to laugh again after so much heartache and pain.
Other comics didn’t tread so carefully. They pushed comedy conventions much harder, understanding that free speech doesn’t evaporate in times of extreme duress. Hollywood even made a documentary on the subject – “Too Soon: Comedy After 9/11.” Comedians from that era shared how they processed their grief and rage, and why they didn’t pull punches when it came to material intersecting with the tragedy.
They were right.
The extreme irony? Some of the comedians featured in the documentary are now part of the current cancel culture brigade <a href="https://www.wtfpod.com/podcast/episode-1278-canceled-comedy-w-kliph-nesteroff-and-david-bianculli">(Marc Maron</a>) or pretend cancel culture  doesn’t exist (<a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/jon-stewart-cancel-culture-myth/">Jon Stewart</a>).
<h4>“The People vs. Larry Flynt”</h4>
The 1996 drama from legendary director Milos Forman celebrated the rise, fall, and legal victory of Hustler pornographer Larry Flynt.
The New York Times called it Forman’s “<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1996/12/22/movies/a-free-speech-hero-it-s-not-that-simple.html">raucous hymn to the First Amendment</a>.”
<blockquote>The movie, shown to acclaim at the New York Film Festival this fall and opening in theaters on Friday, has been critically embraced not only as an artistic tour de force but as a kind of democratic morality play.</blockquote>
Flynt was the perfect symbol for free speech. He was rude, crude and outrageous, and few would embrace his lifestyle choices. Yet defending speech one agrees with is always easy. Rushing to Flynt’s side, given his vulgar behavior, is another matter.

Mary Trump, the leftist niece of former President Donald Trump, blasted Susan Sarandon after the actress ripped the Democratic Party for “sitting on their hands for the last two years.”
Trump was speaking on the MeidasTouch podcast on Thursday.

Sarandon had reacted to a tweet from leftist California Congressman Eric Swalwell in which he stated, “There is one and only one way to preserve #RoeVWade and protect a women&#8217;s right to choose and that&#8217;s to #VoteBlueIn2022.”

In 2020, Mary Trump’s book “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man” was released. Former President Trump’s younger brother Robert had argued in court that publishing the book would violate confidentiality agreements members of the Trump family agreed to in 2001 in order to settle an inter-family dispute over inheritance.
The book’s description stated, “In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.”
In February, Sarandon sparked rage on social media after she mocked the massive funeral procession along New York City’s Fifth avenue for slain NYPD officer Jason Rivera, 22, by tweeting, “I&#8217;m gonna tell my kids this is what fascism looks like.”
That caption accompanied a photo of the funeral procession. Above the photo, she taunted, “&#8217;So, if all these cops weren&#8217;t needed for CRIME that day, doesn&#8217;t that mean they aren&#8217;t needed ANY day?”

On Friday, Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10479837/Susan-Sarandon-apologizes-controversial-comments-NYPD-officers-funeral.html">apologized</a> for her post mocking the huge funeral of an NYPD officer, writing, “I deeply regret the meme I recently shared on Twitter that included a photo of Officer Jason Rivera&#8217;s funeral.”
“I reacted quickly to the picture without connecting it to a police funeral and I realize now how insensitive and deeply disrespectful it was to make that point at that time,” she added. “&#8217;I sincerely apologize to the family of Officers Rivera and Mora for causing additional pain during their time of grieving.”

The day after Rivera’s funeral, a Brooklyn high school math teacher had triggered fury when he posted an Instagram story with an overhead shot of the thousands of NYPD’s finest outside of St. Patrick&#8217;s Cathedral for the funeral, then captioned it, “5/30/20: NYPD SUV drives into a crowd of protestors. Ideal conditions for reciprocity.”
Christopher Flanigan, who is a teacher at Coney Island Prep, was apparently referencing an incident in May 2020 when an NYPD vehicle moved through a crowd of protesters following the death of George Floyd. No injuries were reported from that incident; even leftist New York Mayor Bill de Blasio blamed the protesters for not clearing out of the way of the police.
“Flanigan — who was profiled by NY1 for his musical tributes to first responders in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic — was reached by The Post by phone Saturday night, but abruptly hung up before he could be asked about the content on his private Instagram account, which was shared with officers by a concerned follower, sources said,” <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/01/30/brooklyn-teacher-christopher-flanigan-calls-for-reciprocity-against-cops-gathered-to-mourn-slain-nypd-detective-jason-rivera/">the New York Post</a> reported.
Rivera was shot and killed on January 21 in Harlem. “The Friday incident unfolded as officers were responding to a domestic call at 6:15 p.m. in Harlem, officials said. A woman called 911 and reported she was having a dispute with one of her sons inside her apartment, said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig. Shortly after, three NYPD officers arrived at the apartment and met the mother and another son. At some point the officers were directed to a room in the back of the apartment, where her other son &#8212; the suspect &#8212; was waiting, Essig said,” <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/22/us/domestic-incidents-police-officers-danger/index.html">CNN</a> noted.

The day after Rivera’s funeral, a Brooklyn high school math teacher triggered fury when he posted an Instagram story with an overhead shot of the thousands of NYPD’s finest outside of St. Patrick&#8217;s Cathedral for the funeral, then captioned it, “5/30/20: NYPD SUV drives into a crowd of protestors. Ideal conditions for reciprocity.”
Christopher Flanigan, who is a teacher at Coney Island Prep, was apparently referencing an incident in May 2020 when an NYPD vehicle moved through a crowd of protesters following the death of George Floyd. No injuries were reported from that incident; even leftist New York Mayor Bill de Blasio blamed the protesters for not clearing out of the way of the police.
“Flanigan — who was profiled by NY1 for his musical tributes to first responders in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic — was reached by The Post by phone Saturday night, but abruptly hung up before he could be asked about the content on his private Instagram account, which was shared with officers by a concerned follower, sources said,” <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/01/30/brooklyn-teacher-christopher-flanigan-calls-for-reciprocity-against-cops-gathered-to-mourn-slain-nypd-detective-jason-rivera/">the New York Post</a> reported.
Rivera was shot and killed on January 21 in Harlem. “The Friday incident unfolded as officers were responding to a domestic call at 6:15 p.m. in Harlem, officials said. A woman called 911 and reported she was having a dispute with one of her sons inside her apartment, said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig. Shortly after, three NYPD officers arrived at the apartment and met the mother and another son. At some point the officers were directed to a room in the back of the apartment, where her other son &#8212; the suspect &#8212; was waiting, Essig said,” <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/22/us/domestic-incidents-police-officers-danger/index.html">CNN</a> noted.

‘Have Respect You Irrelevant Washed Up Actress’: Susan Sarandon Torched For Mocking Massive NYPD Funeral

Actress Susan Sarandon, a supporter of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), was seen protesting outside the office of far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) this week expressing her disappointment in the lawmaker.
&#8220;I’m here to say to the squad, and especially AOC, who, you know did make a lot of promises, that we still have faith in you and we would like to see if you have a better plan than we’ve been able to see, please share it,&#8221; Sarandon <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/susan-sarandon-protests-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-medicare-for-all" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">said</a>. &#8220;If there’s a pathway you’ve got that we’re not aware of, please share it. Because we’re losing hope here that you represent us.&#8221;
She added, &#8220;It’s so difficult for people that are independent to get elected in the first place — and then to see the very people that sponsored the bill not stand up for it, is very disheartening.&#8221;
Organizers of the protest <a href="https://actionnetwork.org/events/help-us-tell-aoc-we-need-medicare-for-all-now">stated</a> online:

Far too many who ran on Medicare for All are not FIGHTING for it as if our lives depend on it. That&#8217;s why we&#8217;re holding a rally and action for Medicare for all at AOC&#8217;s office in the Bronx this Monday.</blockquote>
&#8220;You campaigned on Medicare for All. But you didn’t demand a floor vote on it when you had the power to leverage the Speaker vote,&#8221; the organizers said. &#8220;You didn’t demand that single-payer be included in the pandemic recovery bill.&#8221;
The organizers issued the following demands:

<div>4. We demand that you meet with us, your own constituents, people affected by our horrific health care system, and Medicare for all movement organizers, to plan and coordinate the above actions and a fearless new campaign for single-payer.</div>
So many of these progressive candidates like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ran on being activists fighting for change. It’s time for them to leverage that power to help call on the people to come out and pressure Congress to do the right thing for once.
Enough is enough. We’ve waited generations for healthcare, we aren’t waiting any longer.</blockquote>

In a tweet on Wednesday, actress Susan Sarandon expressed support for “the Palestinian people” allegedly living under “apartheid” while tipping her hat to pro-Palestinian model Bella Hadid.
“I stand with the Palestinian People fighting against the apartheid government of Netanyahu and pray for the Israeli people that they too, will enjoy peace,” Sarandon tweeted. “I also support @bellahadid for having the bravery to stand in solidarity with her people. That can be lonely.”

As The Daily Wire&#8217;s Ian Haworth <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bella-hadid-chanted-from-the-river-to-the-sea-palestine-will-be-free-why-this-palestinian-nationalist-slogan-is-a-call-for-genocide">noted</a>, &#8220;from the river to the sea&#8221; is not only an anti-Semitic statement, but a genocidal one.
&#8220;The slogan gained widespread popularity among Palestinian nationalists in the 1960s, and at its core makes the argument that the Israeli land between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea is Palestinian territory,&#8221; noted Haworth. &#8220;The slogan was claimed by the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) — a terrorist organization — in 1964, and is still claimed by another terrorist organization, Hamas, who currently run the Gaza Strip. Hamas are also responsible for the recent waves of hundreds of random rocket attacks on Jewish civilians.&#8221;
Sarandon&#8217;s statement in support of Palestine comes after actor Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner/The Hulk in “The Avengers” franchise, apologized on Monday for saying that the Israeli government is guilty of “genocide” while calling for an end to “hyperbole.”
“I have reflected &amp; wanted to apologize for posts during the recent Israel/Hamas fighting that suggested Israel is committing ‘genocide.’ It’s not accurate, it’s inflammatory, disrespectful &amp; is being used to justify antisemitism here &amp; abroad. Now is the time to avoid hyperbole,” he tweeted.
As noted by NBC News, it’s unclear for exactly which comment Mark Ruffalo was apologizing. On May 11, he did, however, call for sanctions against Israel while making a call to “Free Palestine.”
