<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Australian actor </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chris-hemsworth"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Chris Hemsworth</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> said he’s not happy with the criticism that superhero movies have received, especially from well-respected directors such as </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/martin-scorsese"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Martin Scorsese</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and Francis Ford Coppola.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It felt harsh, and it bothers me, especially from heroes. It was an eye-roll for me, people bashing the superhero space,” the 40-year-old “Thor” actor said during a recently published </span><a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/chris-hemsworth-alzheimers-interview-mad-max-gw7kb8tvs"><span style="font-weight: 400;">interview</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> with U.K.-based outlet The Times.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hemsworth went on to point out how even industry greats have failures. “Those guys had films that didn’t work too — we all have. When they talked about what was wrong with superheroes, I thought, cool, tell that to the billions who watch them. Were they all wrong?” he added.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Cinema-going did not change because of superheroes, but because of smartphones and social media. Superhero films actually kept people in the cinemas during that transition, and now people are coming back. So they deserve a little more appreciation,” Hemsworth said.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Scorsese authored an op-ed published in the New York Times in 2019 titled “Martin Scorsese: I Said </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marvel"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Marvel</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Movies Aren’t Cinema. Let Me Explain.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There’s worldwide audiovisual entertainment, and there’s cinema,” the “Goodfellas” director </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/martin-scorsese-shreds-marvel-movies-says-theyre-not-cinema"><span style="font-weight: 400;">wrote</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> in the piece. “They still overlap from time to time, but that’s becoming increasingly rare. And I fear that the financial dominance of one is being used to marginalize and even belittle the existence of the other.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He added, “For anyone who dreams of making movies or who is just starting out, the situation at this moment is brutal and inhospitable to art. And the act of simply writing those words fills me with terrible sadness.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Coppola, director of “The Godfather,” agreed with that assessment. He sparked controversy in October 2019 when he </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/francis-ford-coppola-backs-scorsese-marvel-movies-are-despicable"><span style="font-weight: 400;">said</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, “When Martin Scorsese says that the Marvel pictures are not cinema, he’s right, because we expect to learn something from cinema, we expect to gain something, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some inspiration. I don’t know that anyone gets anything out of seeing the same movie over and over again. Martin was kind when he said it’s not cinema. He didn’t say it’s despicable, which I just say it is.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hemsworth also told The Times he’s unhappy with actors who blame the genre for their failures.</span></p>

And it used to bother me when actors would later talk about the show with guilt or shame. Humility goes a long way. One of the older actors on ‘Home and Away’ said, ‘We don’t get paid to make the good lines sound good, but to make the bad ones work.’ That stuck with me.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He continued, “But hey, it’s all a lesson. And if I ever went back to [‘Thor’] I’d wonder how we could change it again. But there is a superhero curse in the sense you get pigeonholed, and I’ve felt a little hamstrung with what I could do, so [I] desperately wanted something to scare the s*** out of me. And ‘Furiosa’ did.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I think there was something unique about this character, and something grounded,” Taylor-Johnson said when discussing accepting the role. “We’ve all had enough of seeing certain studio films, a certain kind of pop culture… where they’re churning out stuff that dilutes wanting to go to the cinema. I wouldn’t have signed onto it if I felt there wasn’t something to really bring to life with this character.”  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Taking on a Sony/Marvel movie is a different challenge altogether,” he added at another point in the interview. “There’s the story, the character, the role; that’s one thing. But then you also step into a world where you’re dealing with a studio and a franchise — or possible franchises, though let’s not get ahead of ourselves.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The actor went on, &#8220;So, they’re rolling the dice on me, in a sense, which is a lovely thing. But you’ve got to appease the studio, please the audience and do what’s dignified for you as an actor. I find all of that super challenging.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Besides working with Marvel, Taylor-Johnson is rumored to be replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond. When the interviewee inquired about it, the British actor said, “I can only really talk about the things I’m going to show and tell. I don’t feel like I need to have a future drawn out for me. I feel like: whatever’s drawn out for me, I can f***in’ do better.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Taylor-Johnson will be featured in several upcoming films in 2024 in addition to “Kraven,” including a supporting role in “The Fall Guy” and an ensemble role in “Nosferatu.” </span></p>

The film’s trailer depicts the character transforming from wanting to be a hunter to becoming one of Spider-Man’s villains. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The “</span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spider-Man</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">” actress made the revelation during a new </span><a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/kirsten-dunst-interview-2024/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">interview</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> with Marie Claire and discussed some of her thoughts about how the industry has changed. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;It was a joke, but on Spider-Man, they would call me &#8216;girly-girl&#8217; sometimes on the walkie-talkie. &#8216;We need girly-girl&#8217;” she mimicked. &#8220;But I never said anything &#8230; like, don’t call me that.&#8221; </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;You didn&#8217;t say anything. You just took it,&#8221; Dunst said of being on set in the pre-MeToo era. Marvel’s “Spider-Man” starring Tobey Maguire and featuring Dunst as Mary Jane premiered in 2002.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Despite her negative experience, the 41-year-old actress said she’d be open to another superhero movie &#8220;because you get paid a lot of money, and I have two children, and I support my mother.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The actress is currently promoting her new project, the action drama “Civil War” produced by A24.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There’s definitely less good roles for women my age,” the actress said, mentioning how “every role I was being offered was the sad mom” after being nominated for her first Oscar for “The Power of the Dog” in 2022.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“That’s why I did ‘Civil War.’ When I read the script, I thought, ‘I’ve never done anything like this,&#8217;” Dunst added.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dunst’s comments about being willing to consider superhero movies come as the genre suffered several recent high-profile box office flops, including “Madame Web” starring Dakota Johnson, “The Marvels,” “Aquaman 2,” and “The Flash.” </span></p>
<p>In response, some studios,<span style="font-weight: 400;"> including Disney, have rescheduled some of their upcoming projects. While some of the bad numbers are being blamed on residual effects of the pandemic and the Hollywood strikes last year, many industry insiders have dubbed the phenomenon “superhero fatigue” as audiences become sick of seeing the same type of content over and over.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Several “Spider-Man” spin-offs are currently in development, with the next releases being “Kraven the Hunter” in August and “Venom 3” in November. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 39-year-old says all hope is not lost for future films in this genre. He says the concept just needs some tweaking. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It’s an interesting moment where everybody has to go like, ‘OK – what now?’ Hopefully from that, somebody either breathes new life into [comic book movies], or something else blossoms which is not superheroes,” Dano told The Independent during an interview published Friday. “I’m sure there will still be some good ones yet to come, but I think it’s kind of a welcome moment.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It’s a larger thing, too,” he continued. “As soon as the word ‘content’ came into what we do – meaning making movies or TV – it meant quantity over quality, which I think was a big misstep. And I certainly don’t need that as a viewer or as an artist.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dano went on to speculate why “The Batman” succeeded where so many others had failed. “There are enough comic book movies where you just know what you’re gonna get,” the actor said. “Reading the script for &#8216;The Batman,&#8217; you knew it was a real film. Every sentence… that’s just [writer/director] Matt Reeves.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A sequel to The Batman is slated to be released on October 3, 2025. Dano is currently promoting his newest film, “Spaceman,” a sci-fi movie starring Adam Sandler about an astronaut sent on a mission to the edge of the solar system while encountering a giant spider-like creature who will help him solve his problems.</span></p>

In November, the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) installment, “The Marvels,” had the lowest opening weekend in the franchise’s history with just $47 million.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Captain America: A Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts,” and “Blade” — all initially slated for 2024 — are being pushed to 2025, at least in part because of strike-related production delays. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That’s not the first time Chalamet praised Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed 2008 drama starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“When I was 12 years old, after attending one of my sister Pauline’s [ballet] performances, I petitioned my Mom and grandma to see Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ with me,” Chalamet said during an awards acceptance speech in 2018, per </span><a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/news/timothee-chalamet-consider-superhero-movie-script-director-1235922292/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Variety</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. “We went to AMC Empire 25 in Times Square for a 7:30 screening. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“The Marvels” was a </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/female-led-the-marvels-has-worst-ever-opening-weekend-in-mcu-history"><span style="font-weight: 400;">massive disappointment</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> for the </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marvel"><span style="font-weight: 400;">MCU</span></a>,<span style="font-weight: 400;"> pulling in just $47 million during its opening weekend — the lowest in the franchise&#8217;s history. The poor showing is partly blamed on multiple factors, including the actors’ strike in Hollywood and general superhero movie fatigue. </span></p>
<p>Social media users objected to King&#8217;s implication that the <span style="font-weight: 400;">female-led film starring Brie Larson, which was also touted for having the franchise’s first black female director, crashed and burned because would-be moviegoers hate women.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I am a woman. I saw the movie. It was bad,” BlazeTV host Lauren Chen </span><a href="https://twitter.com/TheLaurenChen/status/1724063900448981237"><span style="font-weight: 400;">replied</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Or maybe the movie just sucks?” another person </span><a href="https://twitter.com/ocajjoni/status/1723875608524922904"><span style="font-weight: 400;">suggested</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Given that most of the people who go see these kinds of superhero movies are adolescent boys, absolutely yes, which should immediately tell you something about how fantastically Disney is failing their core audience right now,” a third person observed.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It&#8217;s fine though. Adolescent boys will simply take their money somewhere else where their audienceship is appreciated and welcomed.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A few of King’s followers called him out for not patronizing the movie himself and then complaining about poor numbers.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Since you don&#8217;t go to MCU movies and don&#8217;t care for them, that means you rejected The Marvels, right? Does that mean you hate women?” one person wrote with a screenshot of the horror book writer’s previous tweet. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">King had </span><a href="https://twitter.com/StephenKing/status/1723754733024780549"><span style="font-weight: 400;">tweeted</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> earlier the same day, writing, “I don’t go to MCU movies, don’t care for them, but I find this barely masked gloating over the low box office for THE MARVELS very unpleasant. Why gloat over failure?”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Marvel Studios recently <a href="https://variety.com/2023/film/news/the-marvels-bombs-box-office-whats-next-marvel-cinematic-universe-1235788706/">postponed</a> three projects originally slated for 2024. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Captain America: A Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts,” and “Blade” are being pushed to 2025 because of strike-related production delays. That means the only Marvel release scheduled for 2024 is “Deadpool 3.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Though these actions aren’t necessarily due to “The Marvels” being a flop, it does give the studio time to regroup and come up with a new strategy.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“</span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Marvels</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">” was a huge disappointment in comparison to some of Marvel’s top-performing films, including “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), which made $257 million at the opening, and the MCU’s crowning jewel “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), which had a staggering $357 million debut.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This news comes after prediction websites reduced expectations from $75-$80 million to $60-$65 million. In the end, the 33rd MCU film didn’t even hit those reduced projections. Before “The Marvels,” the lowest opening for a Marvel movie was “The Incredible Hulk” (2008), which brought in $55.4 million, not adjusted for inflation. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Poor performance is partly blamed on the actors strike, which ended just before the film&#8217;s premiere on Friday. That meant the film couldn’t be promoted the same way as others that came before it.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Vaughn discussed several career updates during a Saturday evening discussion at New York Comic Con, per </span><a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/matthew-vaughn-kick-ass-reboot-argylle-author-x-men-nycc-1235618721/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Hollywood Reporter</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. Besides revealing that he’s planning to return to “Kingsman 3” and that he’s “going off on a tangent” with a “Kick-Ass” sequel featuring different characters, the director revisited this alleged incident with Halle Berry and “</span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/superheroes"><span style="font-weight: 400;">X-Men: The Last Stand</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">” (2006).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While discussing his issues with the dark side of the Hollywood machine, Vaughn said, “I went into one of the executive&#8217;s office and I saw an &#8216;X3&#8217; script, and I immediately knew it was a lot fatter. I was like what the hell is this draft. He went, ‘Don’t worry about it,’ and I’m like, ‘No, no. I’m the director. I’m worrying about this draft.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He continued, “He wouldn’t tell me, so I grabbed it literally — it was like a crazy moment — opened the first page, and it said, ‘Africa. Storm. Kids dying of no water. She creates a thunderstorm and saves all these children.&#8217;”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After Vaughn said he found the concept to be a “pretty cool idea,” the English filmmaker said he couldn’t condone what he discovered next.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“[I went,] ‘What is this?’ [They said,] ‘Oh, it’s Halle Berry’s script. I went, ‘OK, because she hasn’t signed up yet.’ ‘But this is what she wants it to be, and once she signs up, we’ll throw it in the bin,&#8217;” the director said of the film executive’s response. “I was like, ‘Wow, you’re gonna do that to an Oscar-winning actress who plays Storm? I’m outta here.’ So I quit at that point.”</span></p>
