A lecturer at Stanford University has been suspended after reportedly singling out Jewish students in his class, downplaying the Holocaust, and defending Hamas after the terrorist attack on Israel. 
The lecturer&#8217;s identity has been kept anonymous by Stanford, but according to <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=24168" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> and <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12627971/Stanford-lecturer-suspended-Jewish-students-shaming-oppression-Palestinians.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Mail</a>, students identified him as 46-year-old Ameer Hasan Loggins. Loggins was close to former NFL quarterback and social justice activist Colin Kaepernick and helped radicalize Kaepernick. Earlier this week, students said Loggins singled out Jewish students in his class and told them to grab their belongings and stand in a corner, saying, &#8220;This is what Israel does to the Palestinians,&#8221; The Forward <a href="https://forward.com/news/564587/stanford-university-jewish-students-instructor-hamas/">reported</a>.  
“He asked how many Jews died in the Holocaust,” and when students said 6 million, “he said, ‘Yes. Only 6 million,’” Nourya Cohen, who spoke with Jewish students in the class, <a href="https://archive.ph/plglZ#selection-43247.0-43247.249" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The San Francisco Chronicle. Loggins reportedly proceeded to downplay the Holocaust by comparing it to European colonization, which he said killed more people than the Holocaust. 
Cohen, a senior at Stanford and the co-president of Stanford’s Israeli Student Association, said Loggins’ reported comments and actions in the classroom directed toward Jewish students make her concerned for Jewish students following the attack on Israel last weekend.
“I feel absolutely dehumanized that someone in charge of students and developing minds could possibly try and justify the massacre of my people,” said Cohen. “It’s like I’m reliving the justification of Nazis 80 years ago on today’s college campus.”
Stanford <a href="https://news.stanford.edu/report/2023/10/11/update-stanford-community/">confirmed</a> on Wednesday that it had received a report about a “non-faculty instructor&#8221; who &#8220;called out individual students in class based on their backgrounds and identities.” The university is conducting an internal investigation into the incident. 
“The instructor in this course is not currently teaching while the university works to ascertain the facts of the situation,” Stanford said in its statement. 
Loggins developed a relationship with Kaepernick as the quarterback became more influential in the Black Lives Matter movement, The New York Times reported in a piece it published in 2017 titled “<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/07/sports/colin-kaepernick-nfl-protests.html?searchResultPosition=2">The Awakening of Colin Kaepernick</a>.”

Loggins, who was then teaching at the University of California, Berkeley, recommended race-centered social justice books to Kaepernick, and eventually, “engaged in lengthy conversations until the quarterback asked if he could sit in on the professor’s upcoming summer class,” according to the Times. 
The lecturer recommended books such as “Black Feminist Thought: Knowledge, Consciousness, and the Politics of Empowerment,” by Patricia Hill Collins; “Black Looks: Race and Representation,” by Bell Hooks; and “The Mis-Education of the Negro,” by Carter G. Woodson.
“People that trace our connection to U.C. Berkeley assume he became politicized in my class,” Loggins wrote. “But Colin came in aware, focused, well-read and eager to learn. His decision was made on his own — from the heart. He came to me intellectually curious. The questions he asked me regarding my research, the lectures he attended, he was a sponge.”

Wayne State University professor Steven Shaviro <a href="https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/wayne-state-professor-suspended-after-advocating-for-killing-right-wing-speakers-on-campuses" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has been suspended</a> over a now-deleted Facebook post in which he suggested it was &#8220;more admirable&#8221; to kill conservative speakers than to engage with them.
In the post, Shaviro argued that protests and attempts to disrupt or shout down conservative speakers would only play into their hands and ultimately make the protesters look like the villains. Given that, he said that shouting down &#8220;bigots&#8221; would only strengthen them.

Wayne State President M. Roy Wilson sent out a <a href="https://www.thesouthend.wayne.edu/article_8fa6a4d6-ccc4-11ed-9312-0337d9f0f401.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">campus-wide email</a> on Monday confirming that Shaviro had been suspended with pay and his Facebook post had been forwarded to law enforcement for further investigation.
&#8220;We have on many occasions defended the right of free speech, but we feel this post far exceeds the bounds of reasonable or protected speech,&#8221; Wilson explained.
Ph.D. candidate Shelby Cadwell, who has worked with Shaviro for several years, complained that the university was actually perpetuating the problem by suspending the professor. She went on to suggest that objections to his post amounted to anti-Semitic attacks directed at him.
&#8220;His social media post … was drawing attention to the very problem that Wayne State is ironically perpetuating by suspending him. The problem is that fascists use the ‘free speech’ values of universities to provoke and incite protest, sometimes even violence, and then automatically find themselves on the right side of the issue,&#8221; Cadwell argued. &#8220;The university administration&#8217;s kneejerk response to this targeted campaign against an elderly, Jewish, and utterly harmless human being is the truly morally reprehensible act.&#8221;

Stanford Law School Dean Jenny Martinez doubled down on her support of free speech — regardless of who agreed with it — in a memo published Wednesday.
Martinez joined Stanford President Marc Tessier-Lavigne in <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/stanford-president-law-school-dean-apologize-to-judge-after-verbal-assault-on-campus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">apologizing</a> after students — and at least one faculty member — verbally accosted Fifth Circuit <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/stanford-law-sides-with-howling-mob-of-spoiled-brats-in-shameful-treatment-of-federal-judge/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Judge Kyle Duncan</a>, a guest of the campus chapter of the Federalist Society. She, in turn, was quickly attacked for defending the judge.

Noting that her original intent had been to wait until after final exams to fully address the situation, she said that the continuing attacks and even threats had convinced her that more immediate action was necessary.
&#8220;In the message below, I respond below to many of the questions I continue to receive about why I apologized to Judge Duncan, why I stand by that apology, and why the protest violated the university’s policy on disruption. I articulate how I believe our commitment to diversity and inclusion means that we must protect the expression of all views,&#8221; she said.
She went on to argue that while some of the students had claimed that their protest was protected under the First Amendment, their right to speak should not be misconstrued as a right to shout down opposing views until they could not be heard.
&#8220;A university classroom setting for a guest speaker invited by a student organization is thus a setting where the First Amendment tolerates greater limitations on speech than it would in a traditional public forum,&#8221; she added.
&#8220;Some students contend that the judge invited the heckling with offensive comments or engagement with protestors. These arguments misunderstand the nature of the disruption policy. The policy would not be meaningful to protect the carrying out of public events and the right of attendees to hear what is said if it applied only when a speaker said things protesters in an audience found agreeable,&#8221; Martinez continued. &#8220;Nor does the fact that the speaker departs from their planned remarks and engages with the hecklers justify further heckling that disrupts the event. The Stanford disruption policy prohibits not just conduct that literally drowns out the speaker, but also that which &#8216;disrupt[s] the effective carrying out&#8217; of the event.&#8221;
Martinez concluded by noting that all law school students would be required to attend a training session, during which they would discuss &#8220;freedom of speech and the norms of the legal profession&#8221; and address how &#8220;vulgar personal insults&#8221; — like the things they shouted at Judge Duncan — could ultimately prove damaging to their professional reputations.

As for the school&#8217;s diversity dean, Tirien Steinbach — who <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/stanford-law-sides-with-howling-mob-of-spoiled-brats-in-shameful-treatment-of-federal-judge/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joined the disruptors</a> and attacked Duncan herself — has been placed on leave. During the protest, when Duncan called for an administrator to help settle the students, Steinbach took over the podium herself — and turning on the judge, she claimed that his &#8220;opinions from the bench land as absolute disenfranchisement&#8221; and suggested that he did not deserve a public platform.
Martinez did not comment further on Steinbach&#8217;s status, but did say that the students involved were not likely to face disciplinary action — in large part because their administrator had made it appear as though their disruption was acceptable.

After a raucous protest disrupted a student Federalist Society event at <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/stanford-university">Stanford University</a>, one of the school&#8217;s deans directed students who were &#8220;traumatized&#8221; by the incident to seek &#8220;safety and mental health&#8221; support from the Dean who participated in the protest.
As <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/stanford-law-sides-with-howling-mob-of-spoiled-brats-in-shameful-treatment-of-federal-judge/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">earlier reports</a> from The Daily Wire noted, Fifth Circuit appellate judge Kyle Duncan was scheduled to speak. When he called for a school administrator to manage rowdy protesters, he got Tirien Steinbach, Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion — and she joined the crowd in verbally attacking him.
According to a <a href="https://freebeacon.com/campus/stanford-tells-federalist-society-students-to-reach-out-to-diversity-dean-who-encouraged-disruption-of-their-event-and-to-shut-up-on-twitter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report published Sunday</a> by the Washington Free Beacon, Stanford Law School Associate Dean Jeanne Merino <a href="https://freebeacon.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/FW-Aftermath-of-Thursdays-Events.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent an email</a> to campus Federalist Society leadership hours after the event transpired. In the missive, Merino revealed that some Federalist Society members had voiced concerns for their own safety, and she suggested several resources that they might utilize while processing the day&#8217;s events.
&#8220;Dr. Alejandro Martinez, a clinical psychologist with 30+ years at Stanford, is available to counsel students who are not feeling safe,&#8221; Merino wrote. &#8220;He can read social media interactions and direct communications to assess whether the implied or actual threats are likely to become a reality.&#8221;
Merino went on to suggest that students who &#8220;would like support or would like to process last week’s events&#8221; should reach out to her directly or to other staffers — including DEI Associate Dean Steinbach.
George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley reacted to the news, saying that it was particularly &#8220;tone deaf.&#8221;
&#8220;In what may be the most tone deaf response to an academic scandal in history, Stanford is advising students upset by the canceling of a conservative event that they can “reach out” to DEI Dean Tirien Steinbach who condemned the event &#8230;&#8221; Turley tweeted.

&#8220;We write to apologize for the disruption of your recent speech at Stanford Law School. As has already been communicated to our community, what happened was inconsistent with our policies on free speech, and we are very sorry about the experience you had while visiting our campus,&#8221; the letter stated.
The apologetic missive went on to lament the fact that there were school officials who were aware of the situation and did not take action when they should have, saying &#8220;staff members who should have enforced university policies failed to do so, and instead intervened in inappropriate ways that are not aligned with the university’s commitment to free speech.&#8221;
The confrontation began when protesters descended upon a Federalist Society event — where Duncan had been invited to speak at the Palo Alto campus — calling the federal judge a &#8220;liar,&#8221; a &#8220;scumbag,&#8221; and shouting obscenities.
When Duncan called for a school administrator to deescalate the situation, what he got was Tirien Steinbach, Stanford&#8217;s associate dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion — and she used the opportunity to lecture him instead of the protesters.
&#8220;We believe that the way to address speech that feels abhorrent, that feels harmful, that literally denies the humanity of people, that one way to do that is with more speech, and not less. And not to shut you down or censor you, or censor the student group that invited you here. That is hard, that is uncomfortable, and that is a policy and principle that I think is worthy of defending, I think, even in this time,&#8221; Steinbach said.

Accusing Duncan of being &#8220;divisive,&#8221; Steinbach asked him directly, &#8220;Is the juice worth the squeeze? Is it worth the pain that this causes and the division it causes? Do you have something so incredibly important to say about Twitter and guns and COVID that that is worth this impact on the division of these people?&#8221;
Three other Stanford administrators were reportedly present as the scene played out, but none stepped in as Steinbach berated the judge.
&#8220;Don’t feel sorry for me,&#8221; Duncan told the Free Beacon after the incident. &#8220;I’m a life-tenured federal judge. What outrages me is that these kids are being treated like dogs*** by fellow students and administrators.&#8221;
He later <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/bench-memos/stanford-president-and-law-school-dean-apologize-to-judge-duncan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> to the apology from Tessier-Lavigne and Martinez as well, saying, &#8220;I am pleased to accept their apology. I particularly appreciate the apology’s important acknowledgment that &#8216;staff members who should have enforced university policies failed to do so, and instead intervened in inappropriate ways that are not aligned with the university’s commitment to free speech.'&#8221;
Duncan went on to say that he would like to see an apology directed to the people who were most harmed by the treatment protesters and Steinbach had subjected them to – the Federalist Society members who had invited him to speak in campus in the first place.
&#8220;Given the disturbing nature of what happened, clearly concrete and comprehensive steps are necessary. I look forward to learning what measures Stanford plans to take to restore a culture of intellectual freedom,&#8221; Duncan concluded.

A highly accomplished federal appeals judge was invited to the Palo Alto campus to speak to conservative students on Thursday, only to be heckled and abused by spoiled and intolerant brats as school administrators all but cheered them on. Students shouted “scumbag!” and “liar!’ whenever <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fifth-circuit-deals-huge-legal-blow-to-social-media-censorship-upholds-texas-law-banning-it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fifth Circuit Judge Kyle Duncan</a> tried to speak, their childish outbursts earning the approval of the people who run the school.
When Duncan sought help restoring order so he could address the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/google-threatens-to-ban-the-federalist-from-ad-platform-for-comment-section-violations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Federalist Society</a> students who wanted to hear what he had to say, an administrator with the dubious title of “associate dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion,” lectured him in a rambling, five-minute rant.
“We believe that the way to address speech that feels abhorrent, that feels harmful, that literally denies the humanity of people, that one way to do that is with more speech, and not less,” Tirien Steinbach, Stanford’s DEI chief, said as she clasped her hands beseechingly. “And not to shut you down or censor you, or censor the student group that invited you here. Steinbach, who repeated the phrase “Is the juice worth the squeeze?” several times in a failed bid to add a sense of profundity to her passive-aggressive plea, is a graduate of California Berkeley School of Law who spent part of her professional career working for the San Francisco-area ACLU before landing in academia amid the DEI craze.
“And again I ask: Is the juice worth the squeeze?&#8221; she asked. &#8220;Is it worth the pain that this causes and the division it causes? Do you have something so incredibly important to say about Twitter and guns and COVID that is worth this impact and the division of these people who have sat next to each other for years?”
Yes, it most certainly IS worth having a federal appeals judge speak to young future lawyers, and simple civility requires that such a guest be treated with respect. Aspiring attorneys who disagree with Duncan should have challenged him with probing questions about his opinions, not vulgar shrieks of impudence. A generation ago, every law student, faculty member, and administrator knew this.
When Duncan finally got to speak, many of the protesters walked out indignantly rather than engage meaningfully or subject their own views to challenge from a proven legal mind. If they couldn&#8217;t silence him, they sure weren&#8217;t going to listen to him. That strategy should serve them splendidly if they ever have to argue a case before Duncan or any other serious judge.
Duncan, a 2018 Trump appointee who had previously argued multiple cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, is reviled by lunatic leftists in part for a 2020 opinion in which he refused to use the preferred pronouns of a man named Norman Varner, who changed his name to Kathrine Nicole Jett after he pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography. That’s right: Duncan offended a child sex offender and in doing so forfeited his right to be heard at Stanford Law.
Although Steinbach was the only one who spoke, three other Stanford Law administrators were present, their silence providing tacit approval to the frothing protesters. Associate Director of Student Affairs Jory Steele, Associate Director of Student Affairs Holly Parish, and Student Affairs Coordinator Megan Brown, all sat on their hands during the shameful spectacle, according to one member of Stanford&#8217;s Federal Society chapter.
Duncan, who was ultimately escorted away from the event by federal marshals, <a href="https://freebeacon.com/campus/dogshit-federal-judge-decries-disruption-of-his-remarks-by-stanford-law-students-and-calls-for-termination-of-the-stanford-dean-who-joined-the-protesters/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told the Washington Free Beacon</a> the protesters should be disciplined and Steinbach, whose lecture he described as a “bizarre therapy session from hell,” should be fired.
Sorry judge, you don’t have jurisdiction in America’s elite law schools. They have rejected freedom of speech, academic rigor, and basic decorum with all the finality and certainty of an Antonin Scalia opinion. There was a brief window a few years ago in which these institutions could have stood up to the howling children they’d admitted. But instead of embracing the First Amendment and nearly 250 years of American jurisprudence by teaching that listening to and understanding differing opinions is critical to making persuasive arguments, they cowered and were consumed.
And after these schools caved to a new generation of mindless maniacs, they turned the reins completely over to academic and legal lightweights like Steinbach. At this point, there is no saving them. The nation’s top law schools are now dominated by intolerant, radical, leftist banshees who believe all those who hold differing world views are evil and thus deserving of incoherent contempt. Their administrations and faculties used to be too terrified to stand up to the mob. Now they agree with it.
Stanford Law accepts just over six percent of applicants, and those who make it have high undergraduate grades and LSAT scores in the top one or two percent. But even that is not enough. The school’s application also asks students how their “culture, socio-economic status, sex, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or other factors” will “contribute to the diversity of the entering class.”
These anti-intellectual loons didn’t sneak into Stanford. Unlike their conservative peers, who got in on pure merit, they were recruited. The conservative students rightly have Judge Duncan&#8217;s respect and sympathy and deserve yours, too.
&#8220;Don’t feel sorry for me,&#8221; Duncan told the Free Beacon. &#8220;I’m a life-tenured federal judge. What outrages me is that these kids are being treated like dogs*** by fellow students and administrators.&#8221;

Earlier this year, Stanford University <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/youre-not-american-thats-offensive-youre-a-u-s-citizen-stanford-u-declares" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released a &#8220;harmful words&#8221;</a> list that includes dozens of everyday sayings and verbiage that it deemed hateful for one social justice warrior reason or another.
For many, it was a sign that the Left had gone one step further into insanity. Unfortunately, that kind of speech code is nothing new. In fact, it seems to be ripped right out of the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg&#8217;s playbook from 45 years ago.
The official title of the Stanford project is &#8220;The Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative&#8221; and billed as a “multi-phase, multi-year project to address harmful language in IT at Stanford.&#8221; The list included suggestions such as ditching the word &#8220;blind study&#8221; and instead saying &#8220;masked study.&#8221;
Why? Well according to The Harvard of the West, the frowned-upon word &#8220;unintentionally perpetuates that disability is somehow abnormal or negative, furthering an ableist culture.&#8221; Then it suggests ditching words like &#8220;pow wow&#8221; and even the word &#8220;American.&#8221;
It also instructed those using the manual to avoid gendered language in essentially all forms of communication — ie. saying &#8220;mail person&#8221; instead of &#8220;mailman.&#8221;
This attempt to control the conversation is nothing new. As mentioned, &#8220;RBG&#8221; as she is affectionately known by her fans, co-authored a book on the topic in 1977 titled &#8220;Sex Bias in the U.S. Code.&#8221;
Thanks to one classic newsletter from conservative icon <a href="https://www.phyllisschlafly.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/PSCA_PSR_26_12_199307.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Phyllis Schlafly in 1993</a>, Americans were warned that RBG&#8217;s radical views would be a detriment to the nation as she was being nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton.
&#8220;How does it happen that a Supreme Court nominee whose only experience in private law practice was seven years as general counsel to the ACLU came to be praised by almost everyone as a &#8216;moderate&#8217; and a &#8216;centrist&#8217;?&#8221; the mother-turned-activist said in &#8220;The Phyllis Schlafly Report&#8221; for July 1993. &#8220;My theory is: This just proves how easily men are fooled by a skirt. They deduced that Ruth Bader Ginsburg is &#8216;moderate&#8217; because she isn’t a loud-mouth frizzy-haired, bra-burning, street demonstrator.&#8221;
Indeed, the best-selling author went on to fully expose Ginsburg for the extremist that she was.
&#8220;In fact, Ginsburg’s writings betray her as a radical, doctrinaire feminist, far out of the mainstream,&#8221; the conservative said at the time. &#8220;She shares the chip-on-the-shoulder, radical feminist view that American women have endured centuries of oppression and mistreatment from men.&#8221;
That was no exaggeration.
In &#8220;Sex Bias in the U.S Code,&#8221; RBG and her co-author suggested that the U.S. remove more than 20 words or phrases from all U.S. laws and substituted them with the sort of language advocated by Stanford today.
According to Schlafly, the activist-turned-judge went far beyond changing merely language. In &#8220;Sex Bias in the U.S. Code,&#8221; Ginsburg also advocated an entirely gender-neutral society in which women were drafted to combat, prisons were sex-integrated, prostitution was legalized, and the practical elimination of all single-sex organizations and places of education.
Though it&#8217;s doubtful the current woke army draws their inspiration on these matters to RBG, it should be noted that all of those goals are being pushed by progressives in America as we speak.
The gendered language aspect is already widely accepted. It&#8217;s only a matter of time before they start demanding the other items with the same zeal.
Ideally, Republicans give more pushback to that insanity than they did in the early 1990s.
That year, RBG was confirmed to the Supreme Court by a vote of 96-3 with 40 GOP senators casting their support. However, granted that America recently had dozens of Republicans support changing the definition of marriage, that dream doesn&#8217;t seem likely. Worse, we have no Phyllis Schlafly nowadays to sound the alarm on liberal loons either.

A top official in the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ) quietly exited this month before a conservative group received documents on her tenure via a Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) request.
Pamala Karlan left the Justice Department as the American Accountability Foundation (AAF) was set to receive a trove of information on the conditions of her employment. In addition to working for the Civil Rights Division, Karlan is also a law professor at Stanford University, where she draws an annual salary of close to $1 million, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/07/12/pamela-karlan-quietly-leaves-doj-amid-attacks-on-unethical-1m-salary/">The New York Post</a>.
AAF raised concerns about Karlan’s arrangement, saying the duel employment was an unacceptable conflict of interest for a federal official responsible for prosecuting misconduct and upholding the rule of law.
“As the old cliche goes, you cannot serve two masters. Pamela Karlan was a paid employee at Stanford University when she was supposed to be serving the Department of Justice,” AAF founder Tom Jones said in a <a href="https://www.americanaccountabilityfoundation.com/post/nypost-stanford-law-prof-pamela-karlan-quietly-leaves-doj-amid-attacks-on-unethical-1m-salary">statement</a>. “Not only that, she was using her perch as the highest-paid government employee to push her radical-Soros agenda like suing states for protecting their elections and pushing trans-ideology on kindergarteners.”
“And President Biden and Merrick Garland enabled this unethical sweetheart deal to go after Americans. We’re glad that after our inquiries into this extremist, Trump-impeachment witness Pamela Karlan resulted in her quiet disappearance from the DOJ,” he added.
Karlan joined the DOJ in February 2021 through an Intergovernmental Personnel Agreement, which allows agencies to hire staff on a part-time or full-time basis from local and state governments, universities, and tribal governments. Karlan’s term was set to end in August, meaning she exited the agency several months before her term was up.
Karlan was the de facto head of the Civil Rights Division for several months until the Senate confirmed Kristen Clarke to lead the division in May 2021.
According to a February <a href="https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/07/karlan-IPA.pdf">memo</a> signed by then-acting Attorney General Monty Wilkinson, “I hereby approve the detail of Pamela S. Karlan to the position of Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Civil Rights Division, for the period from February 8, 2021, to August 22, 2022. In addition, I hereby authorize Pamela S. Karlan to exercise supervisory authority over the Civil Rights Division and to perform, to the fullest extent permitted by law, the responsibilities and functions of the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division.”
While serving at the DOJ, Karlan was still an employee at Stanford University. From January 2020 through March 2021, Stanford paid Karlan $1.19 million. When she worked at the DOJ, the federal government paid her $183,100 salary to the university rather than to her directly.
Karlan was a legal expert in the proceedings for former President Donald Trump&#8217;s first impeachment. Trump was first impeached in December 2019 over a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in which Trump asked Zelensky to look into the cozy relationship President Joe Biden&#8217;s son, Hunter, had with a Ukrainian energy company.
The DOJ did not immediately respond to The Daily Wire&#8217;s request for comment.

Top DOJ Official Exits Agency After Group Raises Concerns Over Her $1M Stanford Salary

Stanford University introduced a new campus research hub that has ties to the Chinese Communist Party. 
In mid-February, the university opened the Stanford Center on China’s Economy and Institutions. The center is run by the Freeman Spogli Institute, a foreign policy organization that is connected to the Chinese government. The Freeman Spogli Institute has a history of coopering with China, though it refuses to disclose whether it has taken money from the Chinese government. 
According to a report by <a href="https://freebeacon.com/national-security/stanford-opens-chinese-studies-center-with-ccp-ties/?utm_source=actengage&amp;utm_campaign=FreedomMail&amp;utm_medium=email">The Washington Free Beacon</a>, the Freeman Spogli Institute has ties to Peking University in Beijing which is run by a former Chinese spy named Qiu Shuiping. A <a href="https://unitracker.aspi.org.au/universities/peking-university/">report</a> from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute designated Peking University as a “high risk” organization for its involvement in Chinese defense research and links to state-owned nuclear weapons programs. 
Peking University has hosted joint projects with the University of Chicago as well. 
The Center on China’s Economy and Institutions website claims that the center&#8217;s goals are to advance students&#8217; understanding of China’s economic and political issues. 
“The Stanford Center on China’s Economy and Institutions is Stanford’s home for empirical, multidisciplinary research on China’s economy,” the website claims. “We aim to foster path-breaking research, create transformative student experiences, and advance public understanding of China’s economy and its impact on the world.”
In an introductory <a href="https://fsi-live.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s3fs-public/documents/sccei_meet_and_greet_slides.pdf">guidebook</a> to the center, staff claim that research briefs from the new Chinese-affiliated center will be shared with policymakers in Washington, D.C., as well as technology investment organizations and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley.
The same guidebook announced that the center will host an event with Professor Jean Oi on March 9. Oi is a founding member of Stanford’s research center at Peking University. 
Stanford’s Chinese-affiliated center may soon have increased influence in Washington D.C. as President Joe Biden has nominated one of the organization&#8217;s senior scholars for undersecretary of defense. According to a separate Washington Free Beacon <a href="https://freebeacon.com/national-security/china-ties-raise-questions-for-bidens-top-defense-post-pick/">report</a>, Colin Kahl, a former Obama administration official, worked at the Freeman Spogli Institute.
Stanford is among many elite universities that host Chinese-affiliated programs on campus. The university also hosts a Confucius Institute, which functions as a propaganda arm of the Chinese Communist Party on America’s college campuses. A <a href="http://v/">review</a> of federal records found that more than 100 U.S. universities have Confucius Institutes available to students. 
Other universities partner with Chinese entities beyond Confucius Institutes as well. In 2015, Washington University-St. Louis joined an alliance with Xi’an Jiaotong University called the University Alliance of the Silk Road (UASR). The UASR has direct ties to the Chinese government.  
The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elite-american-university-remains-in-alliance-with-the-chinese-communist-party">reported</a>: 
<blockquote>Washington University-St. Louis remains the only Northern American school to join the University Alliance of the Silk Road (UASR), which is an academic arm of the People’s Republic of China. 
The organization claims to be “non-governmental,” though Chinese-sanctioned media admits that UASR is part of the Chinese Communist Party’s academic programming. </blockquote>
Universities often fail to disclose financial relationships to foreign adversaries such as China as well. <a href="https://freebeacon.com/campus/u-s-universities-failed-to-disclose-donations-from-hostile-regimes/">Data</a> from the Department of Education show that several top-tier universities, including Cornell and Yale, failed to report more than $3 billion in foreign gifts and funds, much of which came from hostile nations like China.

Stanford Opens New Research Center Linked To The Chinese Communist Party

Stanford University is requiring graduate students to sign a &#8220;Campus Compact&#8221; that prohibits them from participating in indoor events, having guests in university housing either on- or off-campus, or traveling outside northern California without quarantining.
&#8220;We are writing with information regarding one important way we are asking you to participate in making campus as safe as possible during the upcoming academic year,&#8221; reads the <a href="https://gradupdates.stanford.edu/news/graduate-student-compact" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">letter</a> to students from Vice Provost for Student Affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole and Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Stacey Bent.
The letter goes on, &#8220;We have an individual and collective responsibility to protect ourselves and all members of the Stanford community — including custodial, dining, instructional, and residential employees whose work requires them to be on campus. It is critical that we all commit to preventative measures such as face coverings, COVID testing, and physical distancing.&#8221;
Among the other things students are required to agree to, they must undergo the school&#8217;s COVID-19 training, screen themselves daily for the virus, receive the seasonal flu vaccine, wash their hands frequently, and wear masks outside.
Students must also &#8220;refrain from having any guests (including fellow students) in my apartment or in common areas of my apartment building, per California state orders, other than a necessary childcare worker instructed to practice prevention guidelines.&#8221; The statement defines a &#8220;guest&#8221; as &#8220;anyone who does not live full-time in my apartment.&#8221;
Regarding travel, the compact <a href="https://healthalerts.stanford.edu/covid-19/travelers/">says</a>: &#8220;Individuals who have traveled outside of Northern California are restricted from returning to Stanford campuses for 14-days —  unless they receive testing at, or after, day 5 post-return and receive a negative result.&#8221;
Students are urged to &#8220;understand that alleged violations of this Compact will generally be reviewed by a Compact Review Panel but acknowledge that the University retains the right to remove any person from housing or the campus to protect the health and safety of the community.&#8221;
Explaining how the Compact Review Panel will take several factors into account in deciding how to appropriately dispense punishment to violators, students are warned that &#8220;the Panel may impose a range of consequences, including issuing a warning, requiring additional training, restricting access to Stanford facilities or removal from campus, including housing.&#8221;
&#8220;Decisions of the Panel are final,&#8221; the compact adds, warning that any violations could &#8220;also be grounds for referral to other applicable University processes.&#8221;
Stanford is not the only university to take stringent measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus among students.
According to <a href="https://www.apnews.com/c132f94e1492582076794f47cf75252f" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Associated Press</a>, many colleges are grappling with how best to handle the pandemic, with many choosing to shutter temporarily. Notre Dame and Michigan State universities moved their classes online this week. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill <a href="https://www.apnews.com/66745a09e003a27b6c13e4578636d300" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">also moved</a> online and helped students who wanted to move off-campus after a cluster of COVID-19 broke out on campus.
The Washington Free Beacon <a href="https://freebeacon.com/campus/michigan-college-will-digitally-track-students-movements-at-all-times/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a> that Albion College in Albion, Michigan, is requiring students to download a phone app that will digitally track their private health data and their location at all times.

Stanford University Requiring Graduate Students To Sign Agreement Restricting Guests, Indoor Gatherings, Travel

On June 1, the Dean of Students at Stanford University sent an email to students in which she approvingly cited a quote from Assata Shakur, a fugitive on the list of the FBI’s most wanted terrorists who was convicted of murder in the violent 1973 death of a New Jersey policeman.
The email from Dean Mona Hicks started by addressing COVID-19 issues, with a “variety of safety tips and advice to those who wish to engage in the nationwide protests,” Charles Hilu of <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/stanford-dean-cites-convicted-cop-killers-famous-quote-in-memo-to-students/">The College Fix</a> reported. Hicks stated, “As protest organizers around the world plan non-violent demonstrations, we must also recognize the grief and pain that are thrust into these spaces. Despite efforts to organize civilly, there are times when some will engage in destructive or harmful behavior. In every case, the well-being of our students is our top priority.’ The conclusion of the email stated, “I appreciate all of the emails and texts of solidarity and encouragement that I have received in my short tenure at Stanford. As a Black woman, I am also struggling to make meaning in our world today, but your humanity gives me hope — your energy, your education, your truth, and your purpose. This loving refrain from Assata Shakur still rings true as I shelter-in-place: ‘It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.’”
The Stanford College Republicans <a href="https://www.facebook.com/StanfordGOP/posts/3012025338879935">issued a statement</a> condemning Hicks’ reference to Shakur, writing:
<blockquote>We are absolutely disgusted that the Stanford Dean of Students, Mona Hicks, praised and quoted cop-killer and domestic terrorist, Assata Shakur, in an email to the student body yesterday. Assata Shakur, (whose real name is Joanne Chestnut) is a convicted murderer who shot two police officers execution style in 1973. Hicks included what she described as &#8220;a loving refrain&#8221; from the murderer Shakur. For Hicks to praise and endorse a cop-killer at a time when thugs and murderers are terrorizing Americans in their businesses, vehicles and homes is unacceptable and unbecoming of anyone in a position of authority at Stanford University. We condemn Mona Hicks in the strongest terms and demand that she apologize immediately.</blockquote>
Shakur, who was born as JoAnne Deborah Byron, changed her last Chesimard when she married fellow CCNY student Louis Chesimard, in 1977, keeping the last name Chesimard after they divorced in 1970. She changed her name to Assata Shakur in 1971. She later wrote, “The name JoAnne <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/jul/13/assata-shakur-civil-rights-activist-fbi-most-wanted">began</a> to irk my nerves … . I didn’t feel like no JoAnne, or no Negro, or no amerikan. I felt like an African woman. My mind, heart, and soul had gone back to Africa but my name was still stranded in Europe somewhere.”
Shakur joined the Black Liberation Army in the early 1970s, a group that justified the murder of police officers. Former FBI Assistant Director John Miller described Shakur as “the soul of the Black Liberation Army.”

Fellow trooper Werner Foerster provided backup for Harper.
While the lawmen conducted routine questioning of the vehicle’s occupants, Shakur (who was in the front passenger’s seat) and her companions suddenly fired upon them with semi-automatic pistols. As Foerster grappled with the driver, Shakur shot the trooper twice before her gun apparently jammed. With Foerster on the ground wounded and helpless, Shakur grabbed the trooper’s own firearm and blasted two fatal shots into his head, execution-style.</blockquote>
Shakur was found guilty of first-degree murder plus seven more felonies; she was sentenced to life plus 33 years. She escaped from prison on November 2, 1979. New Jersey State Police Lieutenant Mike Rinaldi explained in 2013: “Armed domestic terrorists gained entry into the facility, neutralized the guards, broke her free, and turned her over to a nearby getaway team.” He added, “This case is just as important today as it was when it happened 40 years ago. Chesimard was a member of the Black Liberation Army, a radical left-wing terror group that felt justified killing law enforcement officers. … This group conducted assaults on police stations and murdered police officers.”
The College Fix notes, “In 2013, the FBI <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/video-repository/newss-joanne-chesimard-added-to-most-wanted-terrorists-list/view">placed her</a> on a list of most-wanted terrorists. The bureau and attorney general of New Jersey are offering a combined reward of up to $2 million for information leading to her arrest.”

Dean At Stanford University Approvingly Quotes Noted Cop-Killer

Thanks to the work of three Stanford University professors and recently FDA-approved antibody tests, we will we soon finally know the real size of the denominator of all those infected by COVID-19 — and that could be the game changer we need.  
The denominator is the total number of people who have been exposed to the virus, many of whom never knew they even had it. The numerator, tragically, is the total number of people who have died from the disease. Divide the numerator into the denominator and we get the death or case fatality rate. 
As the founder of several airlines in four countries, my companies and our industry have been particularly hard hit by the spread of COVID-19. Since the outbreak, I have spent all my days and a lot of my nights trying to find a solution to save as many as possible of the 40,000 jobs I am responsible for and do what I can to help avoid an economic catastrophe in the making. 
My search for a solution has led me to three amazing and dedicated professors and scientists from Stanford University School of Medicine with impeccable credentials. I have come to know them personally. Drs. John Ioannidis, Jay Bhattacharya and Eran Bendavid, using their epidemiology models and other evidences from China, Italy, Iceland and the US, have questioned from the beginning the true number of those who have been infected by COVID-19. Everyone agrees that the number of confirmed cases reported is not a correct value for the total number of infected. But by how much? Recent research is telling us that up to 50% of those infected are asymptomatic, and of the remaining 50%, 80% have mild symptoms and are unlikely to have been tested. This creates a confirmation bias because we are only testing those with the most severe symptoms.  Drs.  Ioannidis, Bhattacharya and Bendavid believe that the actual number of cases is very likely off by an order of magnitude of 10, or maybe even many times more. 
Why is this so important for all of us searching for a ray of hope amid the dire predictions?  As of today, the US is approaching 400,000 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus and, tragically, more than 10,000 deaths. What if the Stanford doctors are right and the actual number of those infected is actually 3 million, 10 million or more? It would be a game changer in our fight against the virus. If it could be proven that 20 or 30% of New Yorkers were actually infected instead of less than 1%, it would tell us that the peak is closer than we think, and most important, the case fatality rate would be a tiny fraction of the percentage based on deaths as a fraction of confirmed cases. 
Most important of all, this information would provide governors, mayors and public health officials valuable new data in determining the number of ICU beds that may be required. As of yesterday, New York had 4,000 patients in ICU beds. With less than 1% of population with confirmed cases, Governor Cuomo rightly believes he could need 30,000 ICU beds at the peak of the epidemic. That number would change significantly if the actual number of those actually infected — most of whom are healthy and highly unlikely if not certainly not to be infected again because of their resulting antibodies — were 10 to 30 times higher than those that have tested positive.  
Fortunately, there has emerged a surprisingly simple way to know the actual number of those infected. Last week, the FDA approved Cellix’s rapid response antibody detection test. Those tests detected COVID-19 antibodies in 93.86% of those who have tested positive for the virus. Cellix is only one of scores of companies, universities and hospitals developing and seeking FDA approval for their antibody test. The science of finding antibodies after a patient has been infected is not new. The scientists that I have spoken to say because COVID-19 is a new virus, it makes it easier to detect. 
While the FDA advises that caution should be taken in relying on these tests for individual use, they are more than sufficient for determining the correct denominator from a population sample. These tests are inexpensive, only require a prick of the finger to get a blood sample, and can be produced by the hundreds of thousands very quickly. 
Last week, Drs. Bhattacharya and Bendavid began a study in Santa Clara County in California using antibody tests. They assembled a team that collected 2,500 blood samples over 2 days. Once they have the results of these samples, they will compare those who test positive for the antibodies with the number of confirmed cases to give them scientific information to better predict the actual denominator. Drs. Bhattacharya and Bendavid would like to roll out this test to many cities across the nation very quickly. A relatively small representative sample of the population would give us a very accurate number of the true denominator and death rate. In New York, some 10,000 tests could be administered and the results known in a matter of days. 
Once we know the true denominator, predictions of those likely to die might end up being revised from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands. 
Once we have this information, more effective measures could be taken to protect the most at-risk so we make certain COVID-19 patients do not overwhelm our health care system, and tens of millions of Americans could return to work and we could resume the lives we once cherished.  
Because of my consultations with the Stanford doctors and scores of other experts, I believe there is a plan that would allow us to exit this crisis in a safe manner, saving more lives, and sooner than we think. I will post my thoughts on an exit plan later this week to help stimulate discussion, and perhaps give us the hope we so desperately need.
