As President Donald Trump deploys the National Guard to crime-ridden cities like Memphis and Portland, Republican lawmakers across the country say they would like the president to send troops into their cities next.
Two cities that could be the next targets for Trump’s crime crackdown are the notoriously violent Midwest cities of St. Louis and Chicago. These Democrat-controlled cities have been crippled by crime for decades and have been ground zero for the implementation of soft-on-crime policies from leftist prosecutors.
“It is dystopian. You can&#8217;t even believe you&#8217;re in an American city in some parts of it. You cannot even believe it,” Missouri state Rep. Justin Sparks told The Daily Wire of St. Louis. “Like the streets are crumbling. The infrastructure is crumbling. Electricity, trash, piles of trash in alleys, like animals running freely.”
St. Louis consistently <a href="https://usafacts.org/articles/which-cities-have-the-highest-murder-rates/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ranks</a> as one of the worst cities in America for murders, and prosecution in the blue city was recently led by leftist Kim Gardner, who was bankrolled by George Soros. Gardner resigned in 2023 amid pressure from Republicans.
Still, state lawmakers tell The Daily Wire that the city has a massive crime problem.
“You cannot take your families to a ballgame or to a sporting event … because the drug problem is so bad and they don’t do anything about it,” Republican Rep. Holly Jones told The Daily Wire.
Republican State Senator Nick Schroer said that Trump should work with Governor Mike Kehoe to clean up the city.
“If Trump is able to work with the Kehoe administration and get some troops in there to kind of clean it up, we could expedite this thing and be on the right course within two to three years,” he said.
Schroer said that a recently passed <a href="https://house.mo.gov/Bill.aspx?bill=HB495&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crime bill</a>, which shifts control of police out of the hands of Democratic officials in cities like St. Louis and Kansas City, should help address the problem, but that more aid from the Trump administration would be welcome.
The lawmakers said the best way to fight crime was to surge law enforcement, including federal troops, to crime-ridden cities.
“That’s what will work at every urban decaying hellhole in our country, flood the zone, and take the bad guys and actually charge them with crimes and hold them down,” Sparks said.

On Sunday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) stated that Trump was about to deploy 400 National Guard troops to Chicago. Pritzker, who has long downplayed the Windy City’s crime problem, claimed the mobilization would be an “invasion.”
Prior to Pritzker’s latest lament, Illinois state lawmakers told The Daily Wire that they would support Trump sending the National Guard to Chicago.
“I think it would restore order. I think just the threat of the National Guard has the radical left scared and they&#8217;re probably going to let the police do a little bit better of a job,” Republican Rep. Adam Niemerg said.
Rep. Chris Miller, the husband of Congresswoman Mary Miller, said he would “absolutely” support the National Guard being sent into Chicago.
“When I look at what’s going on with JB Pritzker and [Chicago Mayor] Brandon Johnson, they are missing a golden opportunity to be heroes in the state of Illinois. If they would cooperate with ICE, if they would cooperate with President Trump, Illinois could begin to enjoy the Golden Age of America that everybody else is enjoying, that are embracing the policies and what Trump’s trying to do.”
Miller said that Pritzker needed an “ICR” — inner-cranial rectal removal — saying that the governor and Johnson needed “to get their head out of their ass.”
The Illinois Republican said that they should look at the template of Trump’s Washington, D.C., crime crackdown and get Chicago under control in a couple of weeks.

Clayton, Missouri, where the family lives, has a significant Jewish population. According to Rabbi Jeffrey Abraham and Stacey Newman, director of the Missouri Alliance Network, the IDF veteran spoke publicly earlier this year about what he had witnessed in Israel and was targeted by a protest. That demonstration included a poster that called for “a powerful demonstration to oppose the Zionist military presence in our community and to demand accountability for those who help commit atrocities abroad,” <a href="https://jewishinsider.com/2025/08/st-louis-jewish-community-targeted-attack-idf-veteran-firebombing/">Jewish Insider</a> reported.
“Everybody’s worried about their kids,” Newman stated, adding that a family whose children had served in the IDF had asked police to monitor their area.
A <a href="https://x.com/ADLHeartland/status/1952832326846582934/photo/1">coalition of Jewish organizations</a> issued the following statement: “We condemn in the strongest terms the attack on members of our community last night. This is more than vandalism; it is a hateful act of intimidation and only the latest example of what happens when antisemitic and anti-Israel rhetoric are normalized,” the organizations said. “We are a resilient community, and we will not be deterred in our quest to uproot antisemitism and hatred, alone and with our partners. Antisemitism is a social ill that must be rejected by all of society.”

Protests erupted in cities across the U.S. over the weekend as people hit the streets to voice opposition to President Donald Trump&#8217;s immigration policies as federal agents ramp up arrests and deportations.
Thousands of people blocked a section of the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles as they blasted Mexican music and danced in the streets on Sunday. Protesters waved Mexican and Salvadoran flags, and some carried signs that read, &#8220;MAGA — Mexicans Always Get Across,&#8221; “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you,” and “I drink my horchata warm because f— I.C.E,” The Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-02-02/thousands-of-protesters-rally-in-downtown-los-angeles-against-trump-deportation-policies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The L.A. protest lasted throughout the afternoon and evening before police in riot gear began dispersing the crowd around 7:00 p.m. The 101 Freeway was cleared and reopened by 8:00 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol said <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14352897/Thousands-block-LA-freeway-grammys-carrying-Mexican-flags-massive-Trump-protest.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no arrests</a> were made.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been conducting raids in cities across the country since Trump was sworn into office. In the first two weeks of Trump&#8217;s second term, ICE made more than 7,000 arrests, CBS Austin <a href="https://cbsaustin.com/news/nation-world/ice-makes-arrests-on-more-than-7400-illegal-migrants-since-trump-took-office-guantanamo-bay-pete-hegseth-secretary-of-defence-immigration-customs-enforcement-donald-trump-fbi-raids" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Last week, the president also directed the Department of Defense to use Guantanamo Bay to hold criminal illegal immigrants before they are repatriated to their home countries. Trump&#8217;s border czar Tom Homan <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2025/01/31/administration-access-immigrant-minors-data/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The Washington Post that the U.S. government would &#8220;hopefully&#8221; begin using Guantanamo Bay for illegal immigrants “within 30 days.&#8221;
Trump has made immigration a top priority, sending U.S. troops to the southern border and pressuring the country&#8217;s top trading partners — Mexico and Canada — to secure their sides of the border and stop unlawful crossings and drug trafficking. Over the weekend, Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and the two countries quickly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/canada-mexico-slap-tariffs-on-u-s-after-trump-uses-trade-to-force-border-security" target="_blank" rel="noopener">retaliated</a> with 25% tariffs on U.S. goods.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Officer David Lee, 44, was assisting with a car crash on Sunday morning when he was struck by another vehicle and killed.
The driver of the other vehicle, 24-year-old Ramon A. Chavez-Rodriguez, had entered the U.S. illegally and was drunk when he allegedly struck and killed Lee, KMOV <a href="https://www.firstalert4.com/2024/09/23/suspect-charged-st-louis-officers-death/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. On Monday, Chavez-Rodriguez was charged with DWI, death of law enforcement or emergency personnel, exceeding the posted speed limit, and operating a vehicle on a highway without a valid license.
Chavez-Rodriguez, from Honduras, was allegedly driving at least 71 miles per hour just seconds before the crash – on a road with a posted speed limit of 55 mph, according to charging documents obtained by KMOV. Chavez-Rodriguez allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to the rainy conditions, struck Officer Lee, and pinned him between two vehicles before throwing him several feet, KSDK <a href="https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/crime/officer-david-lee-killed-charges-driver/63-36b44d6c-1f4b-4935-a2f3-8caf29486c9c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Chavez-Rodriguez was taken to the hospital, and his blood was drawn two hours after the crash, showing his blood alcohol level at that time was still 0.10, meaning it was likely even higher when he allegedly struck Lee.
“My heart breaks for the family, friends, and colleagues of St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Officer David Lee, who was tragically killed by an individual who was in this country illegally,” Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey said. “This devastating loss serves as a harsh reminder of the real consequences of a broken system that fails to protect our communities. I am praying for Officer Lee’s family, friends, and the entire police department during this unimaginable time. We must honor his service by ensuring justice and security for all.”
At the time of the crash, Chavez-Rodriguez was already on probation for domestic assault and DWI in St. Charles County.

“I&#8217;m gonna miss him dearly, because he was the yin to my yang, my best friend,&#8221; his wife, Tonya, told the outlet. “He was my partner, my other half. One half of my heart, and I&#8217;m the other half of his heart.”
Lee’s son, Khalil, told the outlet that his father loved his family, his job, and basketball.
&#8220;He was somebody who I could talk to about anything,&#8221; Khalil said. “He&#8217;s the reason why I chose to go to school for criminal justice and do what I&#8217;m doing now.”
Tonya said the night before Lee was killed, they had prayed together as usual, and when they were lying in bed together, he said something she’d never forget.
“It was weird,&#8221; she told KSDK. &#8220;He laid beside me in the bed, and he put his hand on my thigh, and he said, &#8216;Thank you for everything.&#8217; And I said, Oh, Bae, thank you for everything. He said, &#8216;No, seriously, thank you for everything.&#8217; And I didn&#8217;t know this was my husband saying bye to me.”

Chinese Communist secret police have infiltrated the United States. Working through so-called “nonprofits” with pedestrian-sounding names, these operators have set up spy nests and secret police stations, subverting our Republic while exporting Chinese Communist Party (CCP) totalitarianism to American shores.
<a href="https://dailycaller.com/2024/07/17/exclusive-red-state-ag-subpoenas-local-chinese-service-center-linked-to-communist-party-intel-arm/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Investigative reporting</a> has exposed several of these operations, known as “Overseas Chinese Service Centers (OCSCs), in seven American cities: Charlotte, Omaha, Houston, San Francisco, St. Paul, and St. Louis. Working through these organizations, the CCP can extend its intelligence gathering, <a href="https://www.uscc.gov/sites/default/files/Research/China%27s%20Overseas%20United%20Front%20Work%20-%20Background%20and%20Implications%20for%20US_final_0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">influence operations</a> and transnational repression activity into virtually any community. 
In St. Louis, Missouri State Attorney General Andrew Bailey has reacted decisively. He launched a legal investigation into the OCSC after finding that it violated Missouri law by <a href="https://ago.mo.gov/attorney-general-bailey-expands-investigation-into-missouri-non-profit-over-alleged-ties-to-peoples-republic-of-china/#:~:text=With%20the%20CID%20issued%20today,organized%20under%20Missouri%20state%20law." target="_blank" rel="noopener">engaging in</a> “deception, fraud, false promises, misrepresentation, unfair practices, and/or the concealment, suppression, or omission of material facts in connection with the solicitation of charitable funds.”
Bailey’s leadership comes at a critical juncture. National security experts have been ringing alarm bells over the CCP&#8217;s vast network of subversive operations against the United States in the American heartland. The OCSCs are a key part of that network.
OCSCs assume the mantle of nonprofit organizations that, on the surface, promote Chinese culture and assist Chinese citizens living abroad. But their strings are pulled by the <a href="https://selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov/media/press-releases/select-committee-unveils-ccp-influence-memo-united-front-101" target="_blank" rel="noopener">United Front Work Department</a> (UFWD), an <a href="https://www.uscc.gov/sites/default/files/annual_reports/2016%20Annual%20Report%20to%20Congress.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">intelligence service</a> which answers directly to the CCP’s Central Committee in Beijing. In addition to helping steal American intellectual property, United Front operations are heavily engaged in transnational repression.
In April 2023, two men were <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/two-arrested-operating-illegal-overseas-police-station-chinese-government" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charged</a> by the Department of Justice for running a secret police station in New York City under the direction of China’s Ministry of Public Security (MPS). The case shines a light on how Communist Party agents operate on U.S. soil.
All around <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/10/08/chinese-police-station-spies-on-dissenters-linked-to-shady-us-charity/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the world,</a> China’s overseas police stations monitor, harass and intimidate dissidents. In some cases, they’ve facilitated the <a href="https://jamestown.org/program/the-long-arm-of-the-lawless-the-prcs-overseas-police-stations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">extra-judicial kidnapping</a> of China’s enemies to face the Peoples Republic of China’s <a href="https://www.economist.com/china/2019/10/31/justice-in-china-is-notoriously-harsh-but-reforms-are-afoot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">notorious legal system</a>.
One of the New York defendants, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/two-arrested-operating-illegal-overseas-police-station-chinese-government" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lu Jianwang,</a> organized counter-protests against the Falun Gong on behalf of the MPS during President Xi Jinping’s 2015 visit to Washington, D.C. In 2018, Lu helped pressure a fugitive to return to China by threatening the victim and their family. In 2022, an MPS official tapped Lu to help track down a pro-democracy dissident thought to be living in California.
CCP infiltration extends far beyond secret police stations and the OCSCs. Attorney General Bailey must launch a similar investigation into another CCP operation in Missouri masquerading as a nonprofit: the <a href="https://usheartlandchina.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">U.S. Heartland China Association</a> (USHCA). When the State Department launched its <a href="https://www.justice.gov/archives/nsd/information-about-department-justice-s-china-initiative-and-compilation-china-related" target="_blank" rel="noopener">China Initiative</a> to counter Chinese economic espionage and protect critical U.S. infrastructure, the CCP became alarmed at its effectiveness. In response, the USHCA co-hosted an <a href="https://ucausa.org/ucatalks-nov-3-2021-event-return-of-mccarthyism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">event</a> in 2021, calling the initiative as the “return of McCarthyism.” USHCA’s manipulation scheme worked. Just months later, the Biden administration <a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/02/23/1082593735/justice-department-china-initiative" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discontinued</a> the China Initiative amid alleged concern that it was fueling “intolerance and bias against Asian Americans.”
Organizations like the USHCA work hand-in-glove with the Beijing-based Chinese Peoples’ Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), which according to the <a href="https://2017-2021.state.gov/designation-of-the-national-association-for-chinas-peaceful-unification-nacpu-as-a-foreign-mission-of-the-prc/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">U.S. Department of State</a>, actively seeks to “malignly influence state and local leaders to promote the PRC’s global agenda,” and is the party organ “tasked with co-opting and neutralizing threats to the party’s rule and spreading its influence and propaganda overseas.”

While Attorney General Bailey is doing what he can within his legal authority to target illegal CCP operations in Missouri, state legislatures around the country must give their attorneys general more tools to deal with this threat. They should start by passing state-level Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA) laws that close federal FARA loopholes and help expose the operations of foreign adversaries within the United States. State legislatures should also enact legislation that would enable law enforcement to crack down on transnational repression operations. And, of course, attorneys general must use these tools to take action against <a href="https://apnews.com/general-news-95025c52081b9722e5afca23fe0a43b9" target="_blank" rel="noopener">malign influence</a> operations in their respective states.
The myth that China is interested in becoming more friendly and more democratic is falling apart, and we can take some comfort in that. But the CCP is relentless, and the federal government cannot face it down alone. Protecting our homeland from the CCP will demand focus, commitment, and action by our state and local government officials.

Gardner&#8217;s office has been <a href="https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/politics/where-is-kim-gardner-missouri-auditor-wants-know/63-7e00c73e-f430-4398-9471-6e6041245bcf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">under investigation</a> since 2021, when former Auditor Nicole Galloway was still in office. Fitzpatrick stepped into the role in 2023, and subpoenaed a number of records from Gardner&#8217;s office – but the office reportedly only delivered some of the requested documents.
Fitzpatrick took Gardner to court in order to get the remaining information, but instead of cooperating with the investigation, she resigned from office in May of 2023. In the months since, Fitzpatrick has attempted to reach Gardner — either directly or through her attorneys — and has had no luck.
&#8220;This is a pattern of behavior with Kim Gardner, who hasn’t shown a willingness to be transparent or accountable,&#8221; Fitzpatrick said in a <a href="https://fox2now.com/news/missouri/auditors-cant-locate-former-st-louis-circuit-attorney-to-complete-state-audit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">news release</a> on Monday. &#8220;Without question, she knows our audit is ongoing and that we want to speak with her about her time in office, but she has made no effort to comply with our requests or respond to our inquiries.&#8221;

Fitzpatrick has said that he plans to file his report with or without Gardner&#8217;s cooperation, but he has continued to try to reach her because he believes the citizens of Missouri deserve the clarification that she could potentially provide.
&#8220;I hope she will reconsider her decision to ignore the responsibility she has to cooperate with our audit process and come forward to provide answers to us and to the people of St. Louis,&#8221; Fitzpatrick said — and he asked anyone who might know how to reach Gardner to call the State Auditor&#8217;s Whistleblower Hotline at 800-347-8597 or email his office at moaudit@auditor.mo.gov.

A convicted child sex offender serving a 30-year sentence escaped from custody Thursday morning while receiving treatment at a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Tommy Wayne Boyd, 45, escaped from a hospital at around 4 a.m. Thursday morning, the St. Louis County Police Department said in a Facebook <a href="https://www.facebook.com/StLouisCountyPolice/posts/pfbid0DVccG8S2PA5kv9CeoGdnrN9dQY87smVW17bQABj3qDJdCtdoiEip1o2WJitiPEzRl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a>. Mercy Hospital South personnel observed Boyd around that time, but soon lost track of him, calling police at 4:30 a.m. after a search of the hospital.
Surveillance footage showed Boyd leaving the hospital on foot, wearing a black sweatshirt, a black jacket, and orange slippers. He is 5’7” tall and weights 154 pounds, with balding hair and a beard.
Boyd had been transported to the hospital from the Potosi Correctional Facility for unknown treatment when he escaped. The police department warned residents in the area of the hospital to “be aware of their surroundings.” They did not say how a convicted child predator was able to walk out of the hospital without anyone noticing, but police are investigating the situation.
While police don’t know if Boyd is armed, they did say he “should be considered dangerous.”
Boyd’s 30-year sentence is for statutory sodomy, which applies to certain crimes committed against minors under the age of 14, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tommy-wayne-boyd-dangerous-inmate-escape-custody-st-louis-hospital-police/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab8d&amp;linkId=236624643" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Lindbergh Schools announced that it would remain under lockdown for the time being, just to be safe.
&#8220;All Lindbergh Schools remain on lockout this morning out of an abundance of caution, as St. Louis County Police pursue a suspect in our area. Lockout means that school is still open, and normal indoor learning activities will continue. Students and staff will remain indoors until further notice,&#8221; the school district said in <a href="https://go.lindberghschools.ws/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a statement</a> on its website.

Boyd is the latest inmate to escape custody in recent months. Most recently, nine juvenile inmates escaped from a detention center in Pennsylvania, but <a href="https://www.abc27.com/pennsylvania/9-juvenile-inmates-escape-pennsylvania-facility/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were quickly apprehended</a>.
Before that, it took Pennsylvania police nearly 2 weeks to track down convicted killer Danelo Cavalcante after he parkoured up a prison wall and escaped – the same way another inmate escaped that same prison earlier this year.
Earlier this month, 44-year-old Yenchun Chen was apprehended after escaping custody in New York City. Chen had been arrested in late July for possession of a controlled substance, CBS New York <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tommy-wayne-boyd-dangerous-inmate-escape-custody-st-louis-hospital-police/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab8d&amp;linkId=236624643" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> at the time.
And in Washington, D.C., a murder suspect is still on the run after escaping custody weeks ago. Like Boyd, Christopher Haynes also escaped from a hospital.

The gravy train keeps flowing for Congresswoman Cori &#8216;Defund The Police&#8217; Bush&#8217;s (D-MO) bodyguard hubby. A new report indicates that he has received thousands of dollars for private security and  &#8220;wage expenses&#8221; from Bush&#8217;s campaign. Yet, he allegedly doesn&#8217;t have the proper authorization for such services in either St. Louis or Washington, D.C.
Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cori-bush-campaign-continues-shell-thousands-dollars-husband-private-security" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> Sunday that Bush&#8217;s campaign has paid her husband, Courtney Merrits, $30,000 so far in 2023. That&#8217;s on top of the $60,000 her campaign sent him in 2022, per Fox.
What exactly does he do? Well, it&#8217;s hard to say.
Bush&#8217;s team didn&#8217;t answer any questions from Fox about what sort of protection Merritts is providing since he isn&#8217;t in D.C.&#8217;s official security specialists database — nor does he have a license in Bush&#8217;s home district in Missouri.
Bush has also doled out $62,000 to a group of St. Louis-based PEACE Security officers in 2023. Bush has infamously denigrated the police as racists. Yet, PEACE is made up of many individuals with law enforcement or military experience, the outlet noted. She also paid another gentleman more than $140,000 over the past year and a half for &#8220;security.&#8221;
For her part, she is one of the last remaining members of Congress, let alone the Democratic Party, who maintains that &#8220;Defunding the Police&#8221; is a sound policy. Defund the Police movements, as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-defund-the-police-became-a-suicide-pact" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daily Wire readers know well</a>, have led to rising crime and lawlessness in cities across the country.
The congresswoman also supports <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/cori-bushs-gun-control-ramblings-are-incoherent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">heavy gun control</a>. In 2021, when the press asked her about her security services spending, Bush was adamant that she needed to be protected by firearms.
&#8220;You would rather me die? Is that what you want to see? You want to see me die? You know because that could be the alternative,&#8221; Bush said.
When the St. Louis representative isn&#8217;t calling to leave the average American unarmed, she&#8217;s demanding reparations.
&#8220;The Declaration of Independence was written by enslavers and didn’t recognize Black people as human,&#8221; Bush <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-cori-bush-slammed-for-july-4th-tweet" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a> on July 4. &#8220;Today is a great day to demand Reparations Now.&#8221;

An 18-year-old girl from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tennessee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tennessee</a> has sued the city of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/st-louis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">St. Louis</a> after she had both legs amputated after being struck by a car in an accident police said was caused in part by a man out on bond. 
Janae Edmondson, a high school volleyball player competing in a tournament in St. Louis, was pinned between two cars in February, causing her to lose both legs. According to the police, Daniel Riley, a 21-year-old man who <a href="https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/local/janae-edmonson-sues-city-of-st-louis/63-c9046a4e-49e8-4128-94ee-763e80af0493#:~:text=Janae%20Edmondson%20and%20her%20family,armed%20robbery%20case%20in%202020." target="_blank" rel="noopener">was out on bond</a> for an armed robbery case, was driving a vehicle that slammed into another car that struck Edmondson. 
Edmondson “had her bright future brutally ripped away when she was crushed between two vehicles following a car crash, leading to amputation of both her legs. The crash, involving a robbery suspect who had violated the terms of his bond dozens of times over several months, was completely preventable,” the lawsuit <a href="https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/stltoday.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/6/c3/6c36d792-109d-11ee-b27b-db19304fb8f1/6493a6130dba5.pdf.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">says</a>.

According to the lawsuit, Riley violated the terms of his bond by allowing the battery on the GPS tracker monitoring him to die and leaving house arrest over 50 times, all without having his bond revoked. 
The robbery charge for Riley stemmed from an incident in 2020, and the case is still ongoing. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/soros-backed-prosecutor-kim-gardner-resigning-over-gop-pressure-to-remove-her-criminal-contempt-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kim Gardner</a>, St. Louis’s former far-Left prosecutor, came under fire for Riley being out of jail. 
Riley has pleaded <a href="https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/crime/crash-daniel-riley-plead-not-guilty-janae-edmondson/63-de7a0611-b60a-4008-9c06-d691d6ae6a20#:~:text=Daniel%20Riley%20to%20plead%20not%20guilty%20for%20crash%20that%20critically,18." target="_blank" rel="noopener">not guilty</a> to charges stemming from the crash and still faces the armed robbery case.

Both drivers involved in the accident, Riley and Elizabeth Smith, were driving without or with suspended driver&#8217;s licenses and were speeding, the lawsuit alleges. Edmondson also says that the city bears responsibility for the dangerous roadway where the accident occurred. 
Edmondson, who barely survived the accident and was in the hospital for 40 days, had been accepted into the University of Tennessee Southern to play volleyball. Afterward, Edmondson <a href="https://www.dnj.com/story/sports/high-school/2023/04/26/janae-edmondson-volleyball-scholarship-mtsu-legs-amputated-smyrna/70140442007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was given</a> a partial scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University to help manage the volleyball program. 
A <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/pray-for-janae" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GoFundMe</a> started by Edmondson’s family has raised more than $800,000 for Edmondson, who lives in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Just when you think you&#8217;ve seen it all, the Democrats pull another trick out of their hat to avoid responsibility for soft-on-crime policies which have sent lawlessness skyrocketing around the nation.
The cities of Baltimore, St. Louis, and Seattle, among other municipalities, announced a lawsuit against two car-makers for allegedly making vehicles that are too easy to steal. (Author&#8217;s note: This is not an article from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/babylon-bee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Babylon Bee</a>).
On Thursday, the cities released a press release stating the lawsuit is &#8220;against Hyundai and Kia for failing to equip their vehicles with industry-standard vehicle immobilization technology. Without this feature, vehicles can be started without a key, a flaw that has been the subject of numerous TikTok videos demonstrating the ease with which these cars can be stolen.&#8221;
According to Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, defunding <del datetime="2023-05-12T17:19:38+00:00">the police</del> the creation of certain parts found in Hyundai and Kia vehicles is to blame for the record-breaking car thefts.
&#8220;These cost-cutting measures employed by Hyundai and Kia at the expense of public safety are unacceptable,&#8221; Scott <a href="https://mayor.baltimorecity.gov/news/press-releases/2023-05-11-city-baltimore-files-lawsuit-against-hyundai-kia-over-car-thefts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a press release. &#8220;They have left our residents vulnerable to crime and are significantly burdening our police resources.&#8221;
To the city&#8217;s credit, Kias and Hyundais do appear to constitute a plurality of car thefts in Baltimore in 2023.
&#8220;Year-to-date, auto thefts are up 95%, with Kia and Hyundais representing 41% of all stolen vehicles,&#8221; Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said in a statement.
Yet what can explain the other 59% of car thefts this year?

Well, perhaps Baltimore&#8217;s <a href="https://www.baltimoresun.com/politics/bs-md-pol-police-budget-explainer-20200617-4yjweepbkreknjlef4f45jiblm-story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">anti-police track record</a>, its <a href="https://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/concerns-of-baltimore-city-crime-reaching-surrounding-counties" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tendency to dole out lenient punishments</a>, and its <a href="https://americafirstpolicy.com/latest/20220825-fatherlessness-in-the-national-capital-region#:~:text=According%20to%20the%20Baltimore%20City,about%2041%25%20of%20all%20births." target="_blank" rel="noopener">fatherlessness rate can explain the issue</a>.
Looking at those policies could also <a href="https://www.police1.com/crime-prevention/articles/report-ranks-us-cities-with-increased-homicide-rates-in-2023-BeaNzXzmnnVlAw3b/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">clarify why Baltimore</a> has the third highest homicide rate per capita in the nation in 2023, followed by St. Louis coming in fourth. Seattle fares better in that category, but even Seattle can&#8217;t say that Kia and Hyundai are to blame for its <a href="https://www.kuow.org/stories/violent-crime-car-thefts-reached-15-year-high-in-seattle-in-2022" target="_blank" rel="noopener">15-year-high violent crime rate</a> in 2022.
Admitting that leftist policies and broken homes are more likely to blame for the chaos would require Democrats to accept responsibility for their actions. So instead, they&#8217;ll blame those evil corporations.

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly M. Gardner, a far-left prosecutor <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/judge-shreds-soros-backed-prosecutor-moves-hold-criminal-contempt-rudderless-ship-chaos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bankrolled</a> by Democrat megadonor George Soros, announced on Thursday that she is resigning from her position after facing pressure from the state&#8217;s Republican attorney general to resign and as she is facing a criminal contempt investigation for failing to do her job.
&#8220;Unfortunately, since the time I took office, as the first Black, female prosecutor in the State, people outside of the city have targeted me and, to advance their goals, have also targeted the fundamental rights of the city&#8217;s voters,&#8221; she claimed in a statement.
&#8220;In recent days, for example, The Missouri State Legislature began hearings on a bill that appears to permanently remove the right of every St. Louis voter to elect their Circuit Attorney, the only remaining elected position in our city&#8217;s criminal justice system,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Instead, that bill gives the Governor the power to appoint our city&#8217;s chief prosecutor.&#8221;
She bemoaned that pressure to remove her from office mirrored Florida Governor Ron DeSantis&#8217; decision to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/desantis-sends-police-to-remove-woke-soros-prosecutor-from-office-for-failing-to-enforce-laws">remove</a> a Soros-backed state attorney last year. Another Soros-backed state attorney in Florida <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/soros-backed-prosecutor-in-florida-ron-desantis-is-building-a-case-to-remove-me-from-office">said</a> last week that she also expects DeSantis to remove her from office in the near future. DeSantis is the only governor to remove a Soros-backed prosecutor from office.
&#8220;This most recent bill is a part of a coordinated, long-standing strategy to undermine me and my efforts to make the City of St. Louis safer and fairer,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;Since day one of my tenure as Circuit Attorney, I have experienced attacks on my reforms, on my judgment, on my integrity, on my prosecutorial discretion, on my responsibility to direct the limited resources of this office and more.&#8221;

Gardner repeatedly portrayed herself as a victim throughout her statement, claiming that opponents were attacking her by making lots of “records requests” that stopped her office from functioning. She also claimed that criticisms of her “hard-working line attorneys” impacted their ability to perform their jobs.
“I can absorb those attacks, and I have,” she said, claiming that the people of her city were being disenfranchised and that prosecutors were being stopped from doing their jobs.
“If not for these two things, I would continue to fight tirelessly to maintain the job you selected me to serve,” she claimed. “The most powerful weapon I have to fight back against these outsiders stealing your voices and your rights is to step back.”
Her resignation is effective on June 1, 2023.
Missouri Judge Michael Noble <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-appoints-special-prosecutor-to-build-case-against-soros-prosecutor-rudderless-ship-of-chaos">said</a> last week that he was appointing a special prosecutor to build a criminal contempt case against Gardner and Assistant Circuit Attorney Chris Desilets because they had repeatedly failed to show up in court.
“The circuit attorney’s office appears to be a rudderless ship of chaos,” Noble said in a court. “Ms. Gardner is the circuit attorney and it is her duty is to manage the caseload of each staff member. Mr. Desilets has approximately 104 felony cases. Any prudent practitioner would expect such a caseload to create countless irreconcilable conflicts. It does not appear she has made any reasonable efforts to prevent the resulting chaos. It appears that Ms. Gardner has complete indifference and a conscious disregard for the judicial process.”
Noble went as far as to say that the evidence supports the prospect that their level of contempt rises to a level of criminality.
“It appears that Ms. Gardner has complete indifference and a conscious disregard for the judicial process,” Noble said. “There is sufficient evidence of disdain and disrespect for the judicial process to determine that both Ms. Gardner and Mr. Desilets’ conduct support a finding of indirect criminal contempt. Furthermore, any attorney’s violation of a court’s order constitutes an intentional disobedience and shows a clear intent to disregard the power and authority of the judicial system process.”
Gardner was already facing a campaign from Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey to remove her from office because of her failure to protect victims from crime.
“As AG, I want to protect the people of St. Louis, and that includes protecting victims of crime and finding justice for them,” Bailey said, adding, “Instead of protecting victims, Circuit Attorney Gardner is creating them. My office will do everything in its power to restore order, and eliminate the chaos in St. Louis caused by Kim Gardner’s neglect of her office.”

Embattled St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner is under fire yet again — this time over the revelation that she has been enrolled in a post-graduate nursing program while still serving as an elected official.
According to the <a href="https://fox2now.com/news/kim-gardner/as-legal-battles-mount-kim-gardner-takes-nursing-classes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">most recent reporting</a>, Gardner has been enrolled in a nursing program at Saint Louis University — and her enrollment in that program came after she took office in the St. Louis Circuit Attorney&#8217;s Office.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, a Republican, had already launched an effort to remove Gardner from office via a quo warranto motion — which a judge <a href="https://fox2now.com/news/kim-gardner/judge-denies-kim-gardners-motion-to-dismiss-missouri-ag-case/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allowed to proceed</a> — prior to learning that she was enrolled in the program.
Bailey announced at a Wednesday press conference that he had subpoenaed a number of documents from the school in an effort to determine whether Gardner had broken Missouri law when she enrolled in the program.
The attorney general cited a Missouri law — <a href="https://revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSection.aspx?section=56.445#:~:text=56.445.,Louis%20City)." target="_blank" rel="noopener">statute 56.445</a> — which requires the circuit attorney and her assistant circuit attorneys to &#8220;devote their entire time and energy to the discharge of their official duties.&#8221;
