Everyone is still talking about the extended debate between Libertarian comic Dave Smith and author Douglas Murray on “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
The Spotify superstar set the chat in motion, knowing the two had extremely different views that would make for a compelling exchange. It’s a sad sign of the times when a debate between two well-meaning adults is increasingly rare in pop culture.
The chat did more than let both pundits share their views. It reminded Rogan of an old saw that Uncle Ben taught a budding web-slinger long ago.
With great power comes great responsibility.

The underlying message in the chat? Rogan’s <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah6kirkSwTg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hugely popular show</a> has been letting some cranks share his podcast microphone. That might not have mattered a few years ago, but now “The Joe Rogan Experience” has the power to shape the political landscape.
Many pundits suggest Donald Trump’s appearance on the show, along with Kamala Harris’ unwillingness to do the same, played a role in the real estate mogul’s victory.
Letting “historians” in Rogan’s studio who resist that label, spread erroneous facts, and refuse to take on their critics, may not be the best way to flex his podcast muscle.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-rogan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rogan</a> has played podcast footsie with conspiracy monger Alex Jones for some time. Now, he’s expanding that practice to the format’s detriment. Think Ian Carroll and Darryl Cooper as two recent examples.
The latter called Winston Churchill, <a href="https://winstonchurchill.hillsdale.edu/cooper-koureas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The chief villain of World War II.”</a>
“I feel you’ve opened the door to quite a lot of people who now got a big platform, who have been throwing out counter-historical stuff of a very dangerous kind,” Murray said early in the conversation. “These guys are not historians. They’re not knowledgeable about anything.”
“I just think, ‘I’d like to talk to that person.&#8217;” Rogan said of his guest choice.
The far-Left Hollywood Reporter, sensing a weakness in Rogan’s podcasting armor, called the podcaster’s recent tilt, “Dangerous.” That’s overstating it, but <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/politics-news/joe-rogan-douglas-murray-podcast-1236192416/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">it’s neither healthy nor helpful.</a>
A week later, Darryl Cooper arrived to perform his act, which can be described as offering outrageous provocations he then half walks back so he can repeat them all again tomorrow. In September, Cooper had appeared on Tucker Carlson’s podcast to say that Churchill was the real villain in World War II and that Nazis didn’t want to kill Jews in concentration camps; Jews only “ended up dead” because Germany didn’t have the resources to take care of them.
Murray and Smith didn’t name call or insult one another during the often-tense exchange. Rogan proved an avuncular host, trying to keep the parties on an even keel. The two sparred over foreign policy, the Ukraine war, and, most passionately, the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Murray’s silky-smooth delivery and impeccable grasp of the facts mattered. Smith brought an Everyman’s perspective to the party, often appearing overmatched in the dustup.

Who “won” depends partly on who you were rooting for prior to the exchange. Both landed some blows, from Murray detailing the horrors of October 7 to Smith sharing the devastation in Gaza from the extended conflict.
It’s increasingly rare to watch these kinds of debates play out on the pop culture landscape. Hollywood’s near total domination by the Left means there’s little appetite for these healthy exchanges. 
Consider today’s late-night hosts. They all sing from the same progressive hymnal and invite progressive guests on to nod along with the audience. The host of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” just raged against President Donald Trump in a Rolling Stone interview. Here’s part of his <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/jimmy-kimmel-trump-late-night-future-interview-1235315906/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">jeremiad against all things GOP</a>.
&#8220;There’s no decency. It’s just a bunch of animals [emphasis added], and it’s disgusting… I mean, on the Fourth of July, I still put up a flag, and I’m never going to stop doing that, because I’m never going to let them have that symbol.&#8221;
Does that sound like someone willing to host a free and fair debate on his platform? Why can’t Kimmel invite someone like Dr. Jordan Peterson or Greg Gutfeld on his show for a civil conversation? It would make for compelling TV and might boost the show’s ratings.
Plus, audiences might take away something valuable from it beyond demonizing those with whom they disagree. It’s increasingly clear folks on the Left aren’t interested in that kind of exchange.
There is an exception, though. Classical liberal Bill Maher, both on his HBO talk show and “Club Random” podcast, routinely invites Right-leaning guests to talk out their differences. Think Dave Rubin, Kid Rock, and actor Zachary Levi, to name just three.

Rogan probably didn’t like to hear someone like Murray, well-regarded in many circles, dressing him down on his own show. He needed to hear it all the same. It’s reminiscent of another pivotal moment from the show’s past.
Rogan invited then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on his show for what appeared to be a tepid chat that let Dorsey slink away from his platform’s censorious ways. Rogan got an earful from his fans who felt he had let the CEO off too easily. So he invited Dorsey back on the show, but brought backup.
He added journalist gadfly <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZCBRHOg3PQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tim Pool to the conversation</a>. Pool brought some unflattering receipts, and the exchange proved far more illuminating than the first interview.
Perhaps Rogan needed a reminder of why his show matters and the consequences of having one of the biggest podcasts in the country.
Uncle Ben would be proud if he took that lesson seriously.

Meghan Markle announced she’s launching another podcast in April after losing her “Archetypes” show on Spotify when the streaming site announced that it would not be renewing it for a second season.
“I’m so excited to share with you something else I’ve been working on: “Confessions of a Female Founder,” my new podcast with<a href="https://www.instagram.com/lemonadamedia/"> @lemonadamedia</a>!” the Duchess of Sussex wrote in a post on Thursday on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DHJN9BrJtwG/">Instagram</a>.
“I’ve been having candid conversations with amazing women who have turned dreams into realities, and scaled small ideas into massively successful businesses,” she added. “They’re opening up, sharing their tips, tricks (and tumbles), and letting me pick their brains as I build out my own business, As ever.”

The “Suits” actress signed a deal with Lemonada Media in 2024 after Spotify opted out of a second season of the podcast with the royal couple. In 2020, Prince Harry and Markle signed an agreement with the streaming site for $20 million, the <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/03/13/entertainment/meghan-markle-lands-podcast-confessions-of-a-female-founder-after-spotify-disaster/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost">New York Post</a> noted.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex&#8217;s company, Archewell Audio, produced 12 episodes of the Spotify podcast, which aired from August to November 2022.
The streaming site and the royal couple’s company released a joint statement in 2023 that they “mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series [they] made together.”
An insider, at the time, told the <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/06/15/prince-harry-meghan-markle-split-from-spotify/?_gl=1*1rdu6jn*_ga*MTY5ODgwMzA2MS4xNjgwNzE5MzY0*_ga_0DZ7LHF5PZ*MTY4NzgwMzY1Mi42MC4wLjE2ODc4MDM2NTIuMC4wLjA.&amp;_ga=2.141075378.188947288.1687794380-1698803061.1680719364">Post</a>, that the royal couple had not produced enough content to justify the deal the royals made with the streaming site.
In addition to launching a new podcast, Markle recently dropped a new lifestyle series “With Love, Meghan” on Netflix. It has already been renewed for a second season, despite criticism and reviews that have panned the royal’s show as a disaster and pointless.
The duchess previously shared news that the eight-episode series, which debuted on Netflix March 4, was coming back. In the first week, the series placed in the top 10 on the streaming site, <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2025/03/07/markles-with-love-meghan-renewed-for-another-season-despite-low-review-ranking/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=socialflowForbesMainTwitter&amp;utm_source=ForbesMainTwitter">Forbes</a> noted.
The series has scored dismal reviews from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and, unsurprisingly, did particularly poorly in the United Kingdom.
One reviewer from The Guardian <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2025/mar/04/with-love-meghan-netfix-deal-harry-royals">called it</a> “pointless” and predicted it would be the Sussexes’ last television show after several Netflix flops. The outlet also said the series was bound to fail “unless the broader public suddenly develops a hankering for long-form television programmes about a woman filling children’s party bags with seeds and manuka honey.”

Spotify has awarded a <a href="https://newsroom.spotify.com/2025-01-27/creator-milestone-awards-podcasts/">Creator Milestone Award</a> to “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/the-ben-shapiro-show">The Ben Shapiro Show</a>” after the podcast surpassed 100 million streams.
The awards celebrate creator achievements and will be given quarterly to those creators who reach top engagement milestones on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/spotify">Spotify</a> platform.

These awards are the first time Spotify has publicly revealed streaming numbers for podcasters across the platform. Other <a href="https://newsroom.spotify.com/2025-01-27/creator-milestone-awards-podcasts/">Creator Milestone Award</a> winners include  “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Audiochuck’s “Crime Junkie,” and Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take.”
Hosted by Daily Wire editor emeritus <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/politics-news/how-ben-shapiro-conquered-maga-verse-trump-1236104674/">Ben Shapiro</a>, the podcast launched under The Daily Wire in 2015 and quickly became one of the fastest-growing podcasts in the world. By 2017, the show was the second-most listened-to podcast on iTunes, surpassed at one time only by Oprah Winfrey’s podcast. 
In 2018, POLITICO described Shapiro’s show as “massively popular.” The reach of the show expanded further in April 2018, when Westwood One began syndicating the podcast to radio. In January 2019, Westwood One expanded Shapiro’s one-hour podcast to three hours by adding a nationally syndicated two-hour radio show. 
By March 2019, Shapiro’s show was being carried by more than 200 stations nationwide, including in nine of the top ten markets. In March 2019, Podtrac ranked “The Ben Shapiro Show” as the second-most popular podcast in the United States. In January 2019, The Ben Shapiro Show won the Best News Podcast Award at the inaugural iHeartRadio Podcast Awards.

‘The Ben Shapiro Show’ Receives Spotify Creator Milestone Award For 100M Streams

Like many <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-jersey">New Jersey</a> politicians who came before him, state Representative Josh Gottheimer (D), who announced he was running for governor last month, professes to be a huge fan of Garden State native <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bruce-springsteen">Bruce Springsteen</a>.
Gottheimer says as much on his campaign <a href="https://josh4jersey.com/about/">website</a>, noting how he grew up “catching a Springsteen show every chance he could get (and still does!).” At his campaign rally, the rep took to the stage to The Boss’s song, “Glory Days.”
Springsteen is one of the most famous musicians to come out of New Jersey and frequently expresses pride in his roots.
Most recently, Gottheimer shared a snapshot of his Spotify Wrapped top five songs he purportedly listened to this year. All five were from Springsteen: “Thunder Road,” “Because the Night,” “Glory Days,” “Badlands,” and “The Rising.”

Nothing seemed amiss until Monday when a writer for the New Jersey Monitor’s newsletter noted some discrepancies in the photo shared in Gottheimer’s post. These small details called the Spotify Wrapped recap into question, and many wondered if it was a fake.
For example, the “g” in “Your top songs” looked different than the “g” Spotify uses. The numerals, spacing, and resolution also didn’t look quite right.

Gottheimer was contacted on Monday about the allegations, which led him to admit that he had fabricated his top five.
“This would be my Spotify Wrapped if I didn’t share my account with my 12 and 15-year-old kids,” Gottheimer said in a statement to NJ Advance Media. “While it’s Springsteen all day for me — don’t get me wrong, I still love listening to Taylor Swift!”
Gottheimer&#8217;s plan to connect with residents seems to have backfired. The original X post is still up, and commenters are letting him have it.
&#8220;Faking a Spotify wrapped list…embarrassing,&#8221; one person <a href="https://x.com/hack_lawyer/status/1866113403812471292">wrote</a> in reply.
&#8220;This points to a larger problem&#8230;if you lie about this what else do you also lie about? RESIGN!&#8221; another <a href="https://x.com/pilotbmf/status/1866961263579763102">said</a>.
&#8220;Lying isn&#8217;t a choice for democrats. It&#8217;s a requirement,&#8221; a third person <a href="https://x.com/BradMalotke/status/1866945647183810771">agreed</a>.
New Jersey politicians frequently mention their love of Springsteen. Last year, Democratic Governor Phil Murphy declared September 23, the musician’s birthday, “Bruce Springsteen Day” in the state. 
Former Republican Governor Chris Christie is also a huge fan of Springsteen and, according to NJ.com, had the B Street Band, a tribute band to the singer, play at his inaugural gala in 2010. 
Springsteen is popular among conservatives for writing music that resonates with blue-collar workers, but he is a staunch liberal. In 2024, he <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/bruce-springsteen-endorses-harris-calls-trump-most-dangerous-candidate/">endorsed</a> Kamala Harris for president and called Republican nominee Donald Trump the &#8220;most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime.&#8221;

The Comments Section with Brett Cooper launched on <a href="https://open.spotify.com/show/1ZPQSEIADOCw4xpI5zn6Mx?si=8b13be9bc35d418b">Spotify</a> this week, and quickly made it into the top five podcasts on the platform in the United States.
The show, described as “an irreverent viral content and news review show offering an against-the grain, laid-back perspective on today’s culture,” shot up the <a href="https://open.spotify.com/genre/0JQ5DAB3zgCauRwnvdEQjJ">Spotify podcast charts</a> to number five overall, and number two in its category — society and culture. 
The show premiered on the platform on Monday night and by Wednesday it was the number 38 show on Spotify. It climbed an 30 additional slots over the next 24 hours into the top ten, and by Friday morning was in the top five.

Since the show’s Monday launch on Spotify, Cooper has been reposting her followers posts on social media with words of gratitude to express her appreciation for such support. 
&#8220;Y&#8217;all are amazing,&#8221; Cooper <a href="https://www.instagram.com/stories/imbrettcooper/">wrote</a> over an image posted by a listener of the Spotify charts. &#8220;Bumped up to number 8 across all charts last night.&#8221;

The 42-year-old former working <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/royal-family">royal</a>, who is married to Prince Harry, debuted American Riviera Orchard with nine photos which combined to depict the company logo on Instagram. As of Friday morning, the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/americanrivieraorchard/">account</a> had more than 382,000 followers. 
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/instagram">Instagram</a> launch included a short video posted to stories showing a person arranging flowers, Meghan stirring a pot in a kitchen, and a woman posing in a ballgown. The bio section of the Instagram account says “by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex&#8221; and &#8220;Established 2024.” The accompanying website doesn&#8217;t have any info besides a place for fans to sign up to be on the waitlist.
Before marrying into the royal family, Meghan ran the lifestyle site The Tig. She shut it down prior to becoming the Duchess of Sussex. 
Meghan and Harry settled in California after leaving the working royal life and settled in an area of the state known as the American Riviera.
The brand’s trademark filing application includes cookbooks, tableware, linens, spreads and preserves including jellies, jams and nut butters, and table place card holders, per <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/mar/15/meghan-markle-new-brand-american-riviera-orchard-instagram-post">The Guardian</a>. A second international registration application encompasses stationery, textiles, string bags, yoga gear and pet-related items.
The Duchess of Sussex has worked on several business ideas since leaving life in London. She and Harry signed a five-year deal with Netflix and also inked a Spotify contract which ended in 2023. Meghan’s Archetypes podcast had mixed reviews and wasn&#8217;t renewed for a second season.

A source told <a href="https://www.the-sun.com/royals/10796833/meghan-markles-podcast-netflix-royal/">The Sun</a> that the brand’s launch is meant to coincide with a new cooking show on Netflix, but rumors have been rampant that Harry and Meghan’s partnership with the streaming platform has also been in jeopardy.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told the outlet that the brand launch could be a means to keep the partnership going.
&#8220;Obviously this is another opportunity for them to point out that there&#8217;s a link to Netflix with Meghan&#8217;s new project,” Fitzwilliams told the outlet. &#8220;Now, that&#8217;s particularly significant. In a statement on his <a href="https://neilyoungarchives.com/news/1/article?id=MY%20RETURN%20TO%20LOW%20RES%20SPOTIFY">website</a> on Wednesday, the 78-year-old rocker didn&#8217;t directly address his previous threat that &#8220;they can have Rogan or Young. Not both,&#8221; which came after &#8220;The Joe Rogan Experience&#8221; podcast host&#8217;s alleged &#8220;misinformation&#8221; about the COVID vaccine on his show, The Hollywood Reporter <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/music-news/neil-young-returning-spotify-joe-rogan-boycott-1235851163/">reported</a>.
Instead, the veteran rocker labeled Spotify &#8220;low-res,&#8221; stating it&#8217;s the site &#8220;where you get less quality than we made&#8221; and wrote that he was returning because other major streaming services will now distribute Rogan&#8217;s podcasts and he can&#8217;t pull his music from all those platforms.
&#8220;My decision comes as music services Apple and Amazon have started serving the same disinformation podcast features I opposed at SPOTIFY,&#8221; Young wrote without naming the podcast.

The Duchess of Sussex formerly hosted the “Archetypes” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/podcast">podcast</a> on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/spotify">Spotify</a> after inking a $20 million deal with the music streaming service in 2020. Her podcast was canceled after just one season.
Now Markle is giving it another try by launching a new podcast with Lemonada Media, per a press release shared on Tuesday. Lemonada will also start streaming existing episodes of “Archetypes” this spring and will handle ad sales and distribution, per <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/13/entertainment/meghan-duchess-of-sussex-podcast/index.html">CNN</a>. 
“I’m proud to now be able to share that I am joining the brilliant team at Lemonada to continue my love of podcasting,” Markle said in the statement. 
“Being able to support a female founded company with a roster of thought provoking and highly entertaining podcasts is a fantastic way to kick off 2024. Our plan to re-release ‘Archetypes’ so that more people can now have access to it, as well as launching a dynamic new podcast are well in the works. Joe Rogan, the host of the number-one podcast on Spotify, has agreed to a deal estimated to be worth up to $250 million with the audio streaming giant.
Under the deal, “The Joe Rogan Experience” (JRE) will also be distributed across multiple platforms, including YouTube, instead of streaming exclusively on Spotify, The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/media/joe-rogan-podcast-spotify-deal-28eb5f74" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The new deal comes after Spotify’s first agreement with Rogan in 2020 when the host signed a $100 million that gave the company exclusive rights to his show.
“The Joe Rogan Experience debuted in 2009, has been a Spotify exclusive since 2020, and we’re just getting started,” Spotify said in a statement announcing the deal. “Today we announced our new multiyear partnership deal with JRE. There’s so much more ahead, including that the show will soon be available on additional platforms. JRE remains podcasting’s king, consistently ranking as the most-listened-to podcast globally and our users have ranked the show as Spotify’s Wrapped top podcast each year since 2020.”
Rogan has recorded over 2,200 episodes of “JRE” since launching it 15 years ago. On the podcast, the host interviews guests who have expertise on nearly any topic, from military and intelligence experts to comedians and survivalists. Rogan has also interviewed Daily Wire hosts Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh, and Candace Owens on his show.

The couple is reportedly in talks with Dior for some kind of partnership that the <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12206159/Is-Meghan-mega-bucks-Duchess-Dior.html">Daily Mail</a> reported would make Markle the &#8220;mega-bucks Duchess of Dior&#8221; and the face of the company.
However, a spokesperson for the royal couple told the <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/fashion/royals/dior-meghan-markle-prince-harry-deal-history-royals/">Telegraph</a> that the rumors about a deal aren&#8217;t true.
A source with the luxury brand shared similar comments and said that the fashion house is &#8220;nonplussed as to how the story came about.&#8221;
