A year ago, MAGA champion and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) fired a shot across the bow, <a href="https://www.outkick.com/sports/jim-jordan-targets-sports-broadcasting-act-urges-nfl-mlb-nba-nhl-commissioners-testify">calling on all major league sports commissioners</a> to be honest about how the changing sports-viewing landscape affects fans. He made clear that Congress was watching as America’s sports leagues quietly moved more games behind expensive streaming paywalls, pricing out the working fans who fill the stands, pack the bars, and enthusiastically tune in to support their teams. It was a warning.
The leagues mostly shrugged. They should have listened.
On Monday, June 8, the Committee’s GOP majority released a new <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/media/press-releases/new-report-sports-broadcasting-act-special-interest-antitrust-exemption-gone">report</a> debunking the leagues’ talking points defending the move to streaming. According to the hard-hitting review, “the NFL&#8217;s claim of a fan-friendly distribution model defies the reality experienced by millions of NFL fans.” The report continues, “the NFL&#8217;s current model of placing games behind a paywall, especially through its Sunday Ticket offering, is harming consumers &#8230;”
The concerns of consumers will be front and center on Wednesday when the antitrust subcommittee hears testimony on whether the Sports Broadcasting Act’s antitrust exemption is being twisted to harm consumers and benefit leagues’ bottom lines.
This is a smart and timely move by Chairman Jordan and subcommittee chairman Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI). Since his letter last year, other <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/sports/gop-senator-calls-revision-federal-law-sports-fans-pay-big-outrageous-streaming-prices">Republican leaders have followed</a>, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has opened <a href="https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/03/04/2026-04286/media-bureau-seeks-comment-on-sports-broadcasting-practices-and-marketplace-developments">a review</a>, and the Department of Justice has launched an <a href="https://www.wsj.com/sports/football/nfl-investigation-justice-department-8835a936">investigation into potential anticompetitive practices by the NFL</a>.
Most importantly, President Donald Trump himself said in a recent <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/donald-trump-claims-nfl-fans-160038775.html">interview</a>: “You have people that live for Sunday. They can’t think about anything else, and then all of a sudden they’re gonna have to pay $1,000 a game. It’s crazy, so I’m not happy about it.”
Where the administration and allies in Congress stand is clear: Putting fans first is America first.
“$4,785. That’s How Much It Costs to Be a Sports Fan Now,” <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/16/opinion/sports-nba-mlb-leagues-streaming-fan.html">according to</a> sports journalist Joon Lee. To watch every NFL game last season, die-hard fans needed subscriptions to nine different channels and streaming platforms, <a href="https://clark.com/streaming-tv/watch-nfl-cost-2025/">totaling more than $750</a>. A recent <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/sports/fox-news-poll-fans-say-paywalled-sports-out-bounds">Fox News national survey</a> confirmed that nearly 6 in 10 sports fans say they’ve skipped watching a game because it was too expensive, with one-third saying this has happened “many times.” And it’s not just happening in living rooms. Restaurants and bars, where watching the game is a community ritual, are equally frustrated — in fact, a restaurant owner will be one of the witnesses at Wednesday’s hearing.
The leagues and Silicon Valley streamers are driving a wedge between fans and the teams they love. And as always, it hits hardest on families who can’t afford a different subscription for every sport, every platform, every week.
The league’s antitrust exemption was a product of <a href="https://x.com/BullMooseProj/status/2062578265697456525">its time</a>, and even then, it wasn’t supposed to be a blank check. Courts have been explicit: that exemption covers free, sponsored telecasting, not pay TV, not satellite, not streaming. The leagues have been exploiting a regulatory no-man’s-land, benefiting from an antitrust shield while shifting games to platforms that sit outside it.
Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner who presides over the most lucrative sports league in the world, was invited to testify but decided to skip the hearing. The image of an empty chair with a nameplate reading “Roger Goodell” may not materialize on C-Span, but his decision to decline the chairman’s request speaks volumes.
That’s been the NFL’s playbook. When the FCC opened its review, the NFL didn’t engage until the last minute, while the other major leagues didn’t participate at all. The strategy is transparent: run out the clock, hope the political heat fades, and keep the money flowing.
But fan frustration isn’t dissipating. Every Sunday when a family can’t find the game, every bar owner who loses customers because the right subscription costs too much, every working-class fan priced out of a sport their family has followed for generations, that frustration will land somewhere. It will manifest in town halls, polling data, and ultimately in hearings like this one.
The league’s bet is that Washington’s attention span is shorter than their lawyers’ patience. That’s a bad bet, especially as the NFL makes things worse by moving next season’s holiday games online.
Sports is a national love affair, not merely another consumer product. The leagues thrive because of their social contract with the American people. Fans give them their loyalty, their money, and their Sundays. The leagues return that love with exciting action available to everybody. That’s the premise behind the telecast exemption.
Now the leagues are abandoning that deal in slow motion, and Congress is right to throw the flag. And fans, who have been patient long enough, are right to demand that policymakers protect their interests.

President Donald Trump could be courtside for Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday at Madison Square Garden.
The New York native describes himself as a lifelong Knicks fan, and Trump secured an invite from team owner James Dolan to the Finals last week, though he never specified which game.
But now the plans appear to be taking shape. The New York Post reported that Trump plans to attend the June 8 matchup between the Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs at MSG. Venue officials have already conducted security walk-throughs in preparation for a potential presidential visit.
&#8220;I was going to go on Wednesday [Game 5 of Eastern Conference Finals], but they closed it out very quickly,&#8221; Trump told <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/03/sports/president-trump-plans-to-attend-game-3-at-msg-as-knicks-host-first-nba-finals-contest-in-27-years/">The Post</a>. &#8220;They&#8221;re great, and Jim Dolan&#8217;s a great guy. He’s, as you know, owns and in charge of Madison Square Garden. He&#8217;s having a good year.&#8221;
The White House has yet to confirm any plans for Trump to attend the game.
New York City Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani said last week that he would not attend the game with Trump if the president makes the trip. The Knicks are making their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999, when they also faced the Spurs.
&#8220;If the president went to a game, I’d let him, that’s his decision to make. If I go to the game, I’ll be doing so separately,&#8221; Mamdani told <a href="https://x.com/TMZ/status/2060047324328378734?s=20">TMZ</a>.
Mamdani attended Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, purchasing his own ticket and sitting in the upper level of MSG.
Despite their political differences, Mamdani said Thursday that one thing he and Trump have in common is wanting the Knicks to win the NBA championship.
The Finals would be the latest major sporting event attended by Trump. He attended Super Bowl LIX, the 2026 College Football Playoff championship in Miami, and several regular-season college football games. Before his return to the White House, Trump made time for the primetime NFL matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets just days before the 2024 election.
The highly anticipated NBA Finals tip off Wednesday in San Antonio, where the Spurs host the first two matchups. The Knicks enter the championship series on an 11-game win streak, while the Spurs are coming off a battle in the Western Conference Finals, where San Antonio took down the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 to advance.

An emerging clash over the Protect College Sports Act (PCSA) has placed former Alabama head football coach Nick Saban and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) on opposite sides of a major debate over the future of college athletics.
As lawmakers considered the legislation on Wednesday, the CBC sent a letter urging senators to delay consideration of the bill until college athletics leadership breaks its “silence” on what the caucus called &#8220;ongoing attacks on black political representation&#8221; — a reference to Southern redistricting <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/republicans-revolt-and-hand-dems-stunning-win-against-trumps-redistricting">efforts</a> the CBC claims dilute black voting power.
The CBC sent the letter as the Senate Commerce Committee held a hearing, where Saban testified in support of the legislation and argued that Congress must establish a national framework for collegiate sports.
“Congress does need to fix the mess in the courts and create a national framework so the people inside college sports can enforce fair rules,” Saban said in his opening <a href="https://x.com/RossDellenger/status/2062132922505740482">sworn statement</a>. “Without that legal certainty, every rule becomes another lawsuit, every standard becomes another risk, and the system keeps drifting toward a professional model without ever admitting that is what is happening.”

The CBC argued that Congress should not provide additional protections or legal certainty to college athletic institutions until their leadership both speaks out against supposed efforts to weaken black voting power in the South and engages on the caucus&#8217;s concerns about the legislation, including athlete protections and institutional accountability.
“Until college athletics leadership demonstrates a willingness to both engage on these issues and take concrete action in support of the communities that have contributed so much to their success,” the CBC <a href="https://cbc.house.gov/uploadedfiles/cbc_letter_regarding_protect_college_sports_act.pdf">wrote</a>, “Congress should refrain from advancing legislation that would provide additional protections, authorities, benefits, or legal certainty to these institutions.”
The caucus further urged lawmakers to pause consideration of the bill until those concerns are addressed.
Saban, meanwhile, emphasized what he sees as the urgency of congressional action amid ongoing changes in the college sports landscape.
“It’s become an arms race, who spends the most has got the best chance to win,” Saban told the Senate. “But I think it’s a race to the bottom because if you don’t spend to win, you lose your fan base and you don’t have any revenue.”
The proposed legislation has also divided major athletic conferences.
The Atlantic Coast Conference and Big 12 Conference have endorsed the bill, while the Southeastern Conference and Big Ten Conference have raised concerns about key provisions.
In a joint statement, the SEC and Big Ten thanked Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) for their work on the legislation but argued that significant issues remain unresolved.
“It does not meaningfully preempt the patchwork of state laws or provide the protections needed to make and enforce consistent rules, both essential to long-term stability in college athletics,” the SEC and Big Ten explained in their <a href="https://x.com/PeteNakos/status/2061932342294307112?s=20">statement</a>. “It also shifts ongoing rulemaking to Congress, limiting the ability to adapt quickly as the landscape evolves.”

There is no shortage of star power in Madison Square Garden. But tonight, the NBA Finals start in San Antonio, and the Spurs have something in Frost Bank Center that has captured the eyes and hearts of fans across the country — &#8220;The Spurs Nuns.&#8221;
The group of Catholic sisters has gone viral during the Spurs&#8217; 2026 NBA Playoff run for praying for the players and cheering their hearts out as the Spurs went on a Western Conference tear to make it to the Finals.
The Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco in San Antonio show up to home games decked out in Spurs jerseys over their habits. They cheer when Spurs star Victor Wembanyama nails a dunk typically only seen in video games. They sigh when the opposing team makes a three-pointer. They even take the time to bless the players, most recently backup center Luke Kornet, during pre-game warm-ups.
When they’re not in the arena watching basketball, they’re showing off their own basketball skills at the Catholic school where they use their Spurs knowledge to enhance their ministry with the children they serve.
&#8220;Our ministry is with young people, and we need to be able to converse with them and talk to them,&#8221; Sister Bernadette Mota told the <a href="https://www.expressnews.com/news/article/san-antonio-spurs-fans-nuns-salesian-22242330.php">San Antonio Express-News</a> in May. &#8220;I can talk basketball with the kids and it&#8217;s something that I&#8217;ve really enjoyed watching.&#8221;
The enjoyment is a two-way street with Spurs fans often taking pictures with the sisters before games, and when the group chose to stay in San Antonio instead of traveling to Oklahoma City for Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, Thunder fans playfully dressed up as &#8220;Spurs Nuns.&#8221;
While it’s easy to get caught up in the spectacle of nuns sitting courtside at an NBA game, the sisters take their Catholic practice seriously.
&#8220;Pre-game, we’re praying the rosary for peace (in communion with the Church and Pope Leo),&#8221; Mota told the San Antonio Express-News. &#8220;And we’ll add a special intention for the Spurs. God bless and Go Spurs Go!&#8221;
In a world of bandwagon fans, the Salesian Sisters have been die-hard for decades. Sister Mota says 20 years ago, there were elder sisters in their convent who would watch every Spurs game on TV. When those sisters passed, others in the convent carried on the tradition of being devoted fans of their hometown team, per <a href="https://sojo.net/articles/culture-interview/san-antonio-nuns-chanting-go-spurs-go-and-god-bless">Sojourners</a>.

Meet The Nuns Who Pray For Spurs Players Before Every NBA Game

California girls were forced to share the podium with a trans-identifying boy yet again at the 106th CIF State Track &amp; Field Championships in Clovis over the weekend.
Controversial athlete AB Hernandez, born male, once again took home the hardware in the girls&#8217; triple jump and girls&#8217; high jump categories on Saturday, forcing the female athletes to share their spotlight.
The California Interscholastic Federation, known as CIF, also awards podium recognition to every girl who finished directly behind Hernandez, since California hasn’t kept men out of women’s sports.
The CIF&#8217;s policy left one side of the awards podium complete empty since the female athletes — who should have finished one spot higher if men weren’t allowed to compete — were all bumped up to their rightful spots during the ceremony.
The images of the empty fifth, seventh, and ninth place spots fueled the backlash from sports activists who in recent years have fought blue states on their trans policies for sports.
Jennifer Sey, founder of XX-XY Athletics, called out Hernandez’s victory over the weekend, showing support for Lelani Laruelle who came in second place in the high jump, but per California policy, was credited with the shared first-place spot.
&#8220;His feelings matter more than her abilities, her wins, her rights,&#8221; Sey wrote on <a href="https://x.com/JenniferSey/status/2061246212872044925?s=20">X</a>.

Ahead of the championship meet, Hernandez appeared in a video with Democrat California gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer Friday morning before the preliminary round.
&#8220;I&#8217;m so proud of you for what you&#8217;re doing,&#8221; Steyer said in the <a href="https://x.com/TomSteyer/status/2060404639330451678?s=20">video</a>. &#8220;So proud of you for succeeding. So proud of you for competing.&#8221;
Hernandez’s mom appeared in the political video just weeks after she told the <a href="https://www.latimes.com/sports/highschool/story/2026-05-14/mother-of-transgender-athlete-ab-hernandez-ready-for-protests">Los Angeles Times</a> &#8220;we knew we had to get ready&#8221; for criticism from groups that are trying to save women’s sports.
&#8220;I told AB, this is a election year,&#8221; Nereyda told the Times. &#8220;They’re gonna hit us hard, because they’re using us for their campaigns.&#8221;
In Hernandez’s appearance with Steyer in the campaign video, he complained that supporters of women’s sports knew what high school he attended. The name of the school is on his track uniform.
The temperature around Hernandez’s final high school meet was raised Saturday when two local California LGBTQ advocacy groups, Pride at the Pier and Rainbow Families Action, held a press conference outside of the venue to support Hernandez. Police were called to the scene as the supporters of Hernandez engaged in a &#8220;war of words” with activists from &#8220;Save Girls Sports,&#8221; according to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/outkick-sports/ab-hernandez-california-state-track-titles-final-meet">Fox News</a>.
The spotlight has been on the teenager for the last several years as he&#8217;s continued to dominate the women&#8217;s sport in the Golden State.
Though Hernandez’s high school career is over, the fight to keep men out of women’s sports continues with the help of the federal government. The Department of Justice sued the state of California last year over its trans athlete policies, with Hernandez’s district, Jurupa Unified, specifically being named in the Title IX lawsuit.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart recently came under fire from the Left — and one of his own <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/muslim-nfl-players-post-criticizing-pro-trump-teammate-backfires">teammates</a> — for introducing President Donald Trump at a rally, prompting the president to defend him this week. 
In an interview with <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/sports/trump-backs-giants-qb-jaxson-dart-rally-appearance-backlash">Fox News</a>, Trump was asked about the controversy and began by complimenting Dart’s appearance and skill on the football field.
“I wished I looked just like Jaxson,” Trump said. “I said, is he a male model or what? He’s a handsome guy, like a beautiful guy, and a, you know, conservative guy… He’s potentially a good quarterback, he’s a young boy and he just really started. And when he’s in the game, he moves the team.”
Trump then said that the pushback from the Left will only increase Dart&#8217;s popularity among conservative Americans. 
“So, when Jaxson gets harassed a little bit, he’s also loved more, because we have more people than they do,” Trump said.
Dart has endured sharp backlash from the Left due to his appearance at the Suffern, New York, rally last Friday, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/muslim-nfl-players-post-criticizing-pro-trump-teammate-backfires">criticism</a> from his Muslim teammate, edge rusher Abdul Carter.
Dart addressed his fellow teammates during a Tuesday team meeting to explain his actions and fix any conflict, and Carter has said that he and Dart have made up.
&#8220;Me &amp; JD6 are good!&#8221; he <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/articles/why-jaxson-dart-addressed-donald-140151172.html">wrote on X</a>. &#8220;We spoke earlier as Men. Y&#8217;all can keep y&#8217;all narratives.&#8221;
Dart has not vocally backed Trump, but he has liked many MAGA-related posts on social media, as well as posted in an Instagram story last year that he was praying for Charlie Kirk’s family after the famed political commentator’s assassination.
Dart is not the first New York Giant to support Trump at a rally. Former Giants players Lawrence Taylor and Ottis Anderson both <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgeLzZk4InE">joined</a> the president at a New Jersey rally in 2024.

Josh Jacobs, the Green Bay Packers star running back arrested for a slew of charges that stemmed from an alleged domestic violence incident, has been released from jail.
Jacobs was released from the Brown County jail on Wednesday at 12:20 p.m., the Green Bay Press-Gazette <a href="https://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/story/news/crime/2026/05/27/district-attorney-declines-josh-jacobs-charges-investigation-continues/90278961007/">reported</a>.
His release comes as the district attorney decides on whether to pursue charges for the NFL star, per the outlet.
&#8220;Our office has requested additional investigation, as there is reason to believe that additional evidence may exist that would impact whether criminal charges are appropriate, and what charges would be issued,&#8221; District Attorney David Lasee said in a statement to <a href="https://fox11online.com/news/crime/green-bay-head-coach-matt-lafleur-press-conference-josh-jacobs-arrest-domestic-charges">Fox 11</a>. &#8220;Mr. Jacobs will be released from custody at this time, and a final charging decision will be made by our office at a later date.&#8221;
Jacobs, who was a team captain last year, was arrested Tuesday after police were dispatched to an alleged domestic dispute Saturday. Now the 28-year-old faces the following five charges from the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department: battery-domestic abuse, criminal damage to property- domestic abuse, disorderly conduct- domestic abuse, strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur remained tight-lipped on his Jacobs shocking arrest after the team’s open practice, saying, &#8220;I’m gonna stick with the statement that we put out as an organization and just let the process play out,&#8221; according to Fox 11 News.
The Packers released the following statement after the arrest: &#8220;We are aware of the matter involving Josh Jacobs. As it is an ongoing legal situation, we will withhold further comment,” per Fox 11.
According to his legal team, the former Alabama Crimson Tide star denies the heinous allegations.
&#8220;Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public. We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course,&#8221; his attorney said Tuesday in a statement.
The Tulsa native joined the Packers in 2024 after a five-year stint with the Raiders, who drafted Jacobs out of Alabama with the 24th overall pick in the draft.
He’s about to enter year three of his four-year $48 million contract with Green Bay.
Jacobs had a previous run-in with the law back in 2021 when he was charged with a DUI following a single-vehicle car crash, but the charge was ultimately dropped.
As a fan favorite, Jacobs has been open about growing up with periods of homelessness in Tulsa, where he and his family lived in a car. During his first NFL contract, Jacobs was able to purchase a house for his father, Marty.
His philanthropic efforts are why the arrest has shocked NFL fans. There is no new date set for Jacobs to appear in court again at this time.

SEC rivalries go further than fandom: they determine marriages, children&#8217;s names, and whether or not your parents pay for your college.
Now it’s only May, but this could be a contender for best hype video of the 2026 season — and it’s simply an AOC speech where she rails against what&#8217;s wrong with the South, and, arguably, the best part of the South — SEC football.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered a fiery speech from behind a bulletproof shield in Montgomery, Alabama, on May 16 at the “All Roads Lead To The South” rally, where she encouraged northern liberals to &#8220;pull up to the South&#8221; and fight what she describes as political injustice below the Mason-Dixon Line.
While she never specified what she meant by &#8220;pull up&#8221; (according to <a href="https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pull+up">Urban Dictionary</a>, &#8220;pull up&#8221; when used as a phrase means to fight somebody), it didn’t take too long for college football fans to troll the New York native.
Using clips from her rally speech, the now-viral TikTok shows the University of Alabama running onto Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium after AOC says, &#8220;It is time for New York to pull up to Alabama.&#8221;
AOC continued, &#8220;It’s time for all of us to come to Georgia&#8221; — a perfect intro to show the University of Georgia Bulldogs taking the field in Sanford Stadium.
Let’s be honest, AOC doesn’t scream SEC, which is largely made up of conservatives — but man, did she say the perfect words to show off what some claim are the best college football programs in the country. With the help of this football hype video, she may get more conservative eyes on her speeches than ever before.
&#8220;AOC is now being mocked by SEC fans,&#8221; OutKick founder and avid college football fan Clay Travis said alongside the video on <a href="https://x.com/ClayTravis/status/2059263688935153680?s=20">X</a>.
A University of Tennessee fan noticed his on-the-field rivals had the same opinion of the AOC SEC football mashup.
&#8220;She has temporarily united the SEC fanbase against her and her far left socialist lunatics,&#8221; Brandon Harbin <a href="https://x.com/brandonh42/status/2059273902803615887?s=20">wrote</a>. &#8220;We don&#8217;t do socialism in the South.&#8221;
Even fellow politicians couldn’t help but put their college football rivalries aside to give this hype video some love.

The kickoff to college football is 95 days away, and there will be plenty more hype edits made, though having an AOC/SEC crossover is an unexpected move that will forever be meme’d … sorry … remembered.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is getting dunked on by former Los Angeles Laker Kyle Kuzma, who is having a &#8220;Pratt Summer.&#8221;
The NBA player is putting his money where he hopes common sense is and placing a big bet on Spencer Pratt to win the Los Angeles mayoral race.
Kuzma, who won the NBA championship with the LA Lakers in 2020, posted on <a href="https://x.com/kylekuzma/status/2058970366039527711?s=20">X</a> over the weekend his bet slip, which showed the current Milwaukee Bucks power forward put more than $36,000 on Pratt to win, with the payout being $133,588.89 if the former reality star beats incumbent Karen Bass and Nithya Raman.
Kalshi has Bass as the favorite with a 70% chance of winning, with Pratt at 28% and Raman a distant third at 5.9% as of Tuesday morning.
&#8220;For my parlay papis I’m going big on Spencer Pratt,&#8221; Kuzma wrote beside an American flag emoji.
To the haters in the replies, Kuzma <a href="https://x.com/kylekuzma/status/2058986018296963082">responded</a> with this: &#8220;LA has been cooked since Covid what am I missing lol.&#8221;
Kuzma isn’t a stranger to LA. He played for the Lakers from 2017 to 2021, which included the pandemic. And despite being engaged to fashion model Winnie Harlow, who is signed to CAA out of Los Angeles, Kuzma chooses to spend the off-season in Florida, not the “Golden State.”
The NBA star doubled down on his Pratt for LA stance Tuesday, sharing a long-form interview Pratt did on the &#8220;All-In&#8221; podcast recently, where the outsider discusses LA’s rampant homelessness, corruption, and lack of leadership.
Kuzma captioned the <a href="https://x.com/kylekuzma/status/2059257100279107769?s=20">video</a>, &#8220;Good watch when you have the time.&#8221;
Pratt is a registered Republican, though he is running as an independent.
Kuzma isn’t the only person with ties to the Lakers who is all in on &#8220;The Hills&#8221; star. Jeanie Buss, the Lakers&#8217; minority owner and current governor, made the max donation of $1,800 to Pratt’s campaign last month.
Despite her contributions, Buss hasn’t publicly endorsed Pratt, according to <a href="https://www.foxla.com/news/lakers-jeanie-buss-la-mayoral-race-spencer-pratt">Fox 11.</a> But like her former player, her money is doing the talking.
Pratt has <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-05-22/spencer-pratt-leads-field-in-mayoral-campaign-contributions">reportedly</a> raised $2.72 million between April 19 and May 16, per statements obtained by the Los Angeles Times, moving his total to $3.26 million in contributions. Current Mayor Bass reported only $283,000 during that same period, boosting her total to $3.13 million. As of May 16, Raman hasn&#8217;t hit the $1 million mark in contributions.
Election Day for Los Angeles is on Tuesday, June 2. The latest odds predict a run-off in November between Bass and Pratt.

The racing world was heartbroken Thursday as news quickly spread that Kyle Busch, one of this generation’s most prolific racers, died suddenly at 41 years old.
While the exact cause of death hasn’t been disclosed, 911 audio obtained by <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/05/22/kyle-busch-911-audio/">TMZ</a> reveals more details about the father-of-two’s final moments.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve got an individual that&#8217;s uh … shortness of breath, very hot, thinks he is going to pass out … and is producing a little bit of blood … coughing up some blood,&#8221; the 911 caller said, audio released by TMZ revealed.
&#8220;He’s awake &#8230; he’s on the bathroom floor right now,&#8221; the person added. Busch was on the floor of the General Motors Charlotte Technical Center where he was training when the medical emergency occurred.
The person who made the 911 call asked responders to turn the sirens off when heading toward the Concord, North Carolina, address where Busch was training. The 911 call was made around 5:30 that evening, per TMZ.
Sources close to the situation told The Daily Wire the 41-year-old passed out Wednesday while he was testing a Chevrolet racing simulator. After EMTs got on scene, Busch was transferred to a local hospital, where he died less than 24 hours later.
The tragedy happened less than two weeks after Busch requested medical assistance at a race at Watkins Glen in New York for a &#8220;sinus cold.&#8221;
After the May 10 competition, Busch went on to race in the Truck Series on May 15, winning the Ecosave 200 at Dover Motor Speedway. Two days later, he participated in the NASCAR All-Star Race.
On Thursday, Busch&#8217;s family announced he was in the hospital with a &#8220;severe illness&#8221; before revealing that he had died hours later.
Some of NASCAR&#8217;s biggest names have expressed shock and sadness following Busch&#8217;s passing. Dale Earnhardt Jr. penned a thoughtful message about their, at times, rocky relationship that turned into a lasting friendship.
&#8220;Kyle was one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. No one can deny that,&#8221; Dale Jr. <a href="https://x.com/DaleJr/status/2057596215206805756?s=20">wrote</a>. &#8220;But he was also a father, a husband, brother, son, and a friend to many. My heart is broken for the Busch family. I will never be able to make sense of this loss but I am thankful that we had found a way to become friends.&#8221;
Busch was set to race in this weekend’s Coca-Cola 600 in the legendary driver’s backyard of Charlotte, North Carolina.
In the race preview email sent out Wednesday, Busch was listed among the race storylines as a driver who has &#8220;something to prove&#8221; during Sunday’s race.
Now, the entire storyline has changed around the premier NASCAR event with the passing of the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.
Still, the checkered flag will wave Sunday with NASCAR officials planning to honor the life of Busch in a big way.

LSU head football coach Lane Kiffin apologized on Tuesday to anyone offended by recent comments he made about recruiting challenges for black players when he was at Ole Miss.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.on3.com/news/lane-kiffin-is-chasing-greatness-after-leaving-ole-miss-for-lsu/">On3</a> Sports, Kiffin addressed backlash to his remarks published in a <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/news/story/lane-kiffin-explains-himself" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vanity Fair</a> profile, in which he discussed obstacles he faced while recruiting some out-of-state black prospects to Mississippi.
&#8220;In a four-hour interview, I was asked a lot of questions on a lot of things, and Ole Miss has been wonderful to me and to my family,&#8221; Kiffin said. &#8220;I was asked questions about the differences in recruiting, and I said a narrative that we battled there from some out-of-state black parents and grandparents was not wanting their kid to move to Mississippi. That’s a narrative that coaches have been fighting forever. It wasn’t calculated by bringing it up.&#8221;
In the Vanity Fair piece, Kiffin said some recruits told him family members were hesitant to allow them to move to Oxford, Mississippi, citing the state&#8217;s history and perceptions about race.
&#8220;That doesn’t come up when you say Baton Rouge, Louisiana,&#8221; Kiffin said, contrasting his current program at LSU.
The author of the piece, Chris Smith, claimed that Kiffin was willing to &#8220;indirectly invoke Ole Miss&#8217;s struggle to distance itself from symbols like the Confederate flag, Colonel Rebel, and the nickname &#8216;Ole Miss&#8217; itself.&#8221;
The comments drew criticism from some Ole Miss supporters and added to lingering tensions after Kiffin ditched the program during last season&#8217;s College Football Playoff run.
ESPN senior writer Ryan McGee described Kiffin&#8217;s comments as &#8220;on schedule,&#8221; fitting a familiar pattern of the &#8220;Lane Kiffin playbook.&#8221; He <a href="https://x.com/dpshow/status/2054250249309376955?s=20">told &#8220;The Dan Patrick Show&#8221;</a> that Kiffin should be cautious when discussing topics like race and regional history, citing Ole Miss&#8217;s past controversies and LSU&#8217;s ties to the Confederacy.
McGee went on to say he thinks Kiffin simply wants the fans to &#8220;love him where he is and he doesn&#8217;t really care if they still love him where he was.&#8221;
Smith, who penned the Vanity Fair article, said on &#8220;The Paul Finebaum Show&#8221; that he was fascinated that Kiffin was &#8220;willing to go there,&#8221; adding that using demographics as a factor in recruiting could become part of Kiffin&#8217;s strategy at LSU.
Kiffin is set to return to Oxford on September 19, when LSU faces Ole Miss in his first game back since bailing on the program.

LIV Golf, the pro golf league backed by Saudi Arabia that was meant to rival the PGA Tour, is in limbo because the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund pulled financial backing after the 2026 season.
LIV was billed as the cool, modern, team-based, 54-hole golf league with a lot of cash from Saudi Arabia. At the time of its creation in 2021, it seemed too good to be true. Five years later, it&#8217;s on life support as tournaments have been postponed — and a scale-back effort is in place as the CEO tries to keep the business going for another year by looking for new investors.
LIV Golf CEO Scott O&#8217;Neil spoke publicly Tuesday at Trump National D.C. for the first time since the news broke that funding was going away. O&#8217;Neil kept his tone positive, saying he feels ready for the moment and is prepared to tackle the financial uncertainty behind his league.
&#8220;This moment for me &#8230; I understand uncertainty is difficult for some people, and I understand that not knowing what tomorrow brings can be a challenge,&#8221; O’Neil said. “This is 100 percent what I love to do, this moment. Everybody is meant for a certain thing in their life. I believe this is what I am meant for. I love this moment.&#8221;
The moment is intense, suddenly navigating without what seemed like an endless cash flow. O&#8217;Neil will have to restructure the business model for LIV, and that&#8217;s how the businessman is framing this next chapter — as a refresh, not a threat.
&#8220;First and foremost, we need to get the players settled, on board, and focusing on golf,&#8221; O’Neil said. &#8220;Secondly, we have to create a plan that&#8217;s a business plan, a business that works from a business standpoint, from a profit and loss standpoint, like every other business in the world, and we are well on our way to that.&#8221;
The league started with a lot of buzz after promising big checks and signing big names — including Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka, among other PGA stars.
But viewership didn&#8217;t match the energy. Per Awful Announcing, for the 17 telecasts on Fox last year, LIV Golf averaged just 338,000 viewers, compared to its PGA Tour competition that averaged 2.66 million.
Koepka is back with the PGA Tour, but DeChambeau remains with LIV through his contract that ends after the 2026 season. The golf and online personality said on Tuesday that he would focus on YouTube if LIV failed. The golf star was once involved in a lawsuit with the PGA and hinted that golf&#8217;s premier league might not welcome him back with open arms.
Other LIV stars, including Jon Rahm, don&#8217;t have expiring contracts. Rahm said the LIV CEO has a &#8220;lot of hard work to do&#8221; to find funding for the league&#8217;s future, per Golf.com.
The current season isn&#8217;t in complete shambles, although a tournament set for June in New Orleans has been postponed. The tour continues in the nation&#8217;s capital this weekend before heading internationally to Korea at the end of May.
