Retired United States Air Force Brigadier General Buzz Aldrin, a famed NASA astronaut, endorsed former President Donald Trump this week.
Aldrin, the second person to walk on the moon, said that he was impressed by how Trump prioritized space exploration during his time in office.
&#8220;Under President Trump&#8217;s first term, America saw a revitalized interest in space,&#8221; he said. &#8220;His Administration reignited national efforts to get back to the Moon, and push on to Mars – programs that continue today.&#8221;

He said he was also excited by individuals pushing for space exploration in the private sector, namely Elon Musk, who he called a &#8220;visionary.&#8221;
He said he was deeply concerned about the global security landscape, domestic economic concerns, and stability in local communities.

Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to get sidetracked during an interview with journalist Roland S. Martin, delivering a brief if confusing astronomy lesson during a conversation about her plan to implement policies that will disproportionately benefit black voters.
Martin set her up with a question about her political opponent, former President Donald Trump, claiming that he was specifically targeting cities that had high minority populations and attacking them as failing. Martin made no mention of the fact that Detroit — one of the cities in question — has had only Democrat mayors since 1962, but focused solely on racial demographics. The other two cities mentioned, Chicago and Washington, D.C., have been under Democrat control since 1931 and 1967, respectively.
Harris nodded in agreement before quickly veering off course.

NASA spacecraft Europa Clipper, sitting aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket, launched into orbit shortly after noon ET on Monday and is now on its way to investigate the potential for life on one of Jupiter’s largest moons. 
The Europa Clipper launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, becoming the largest spacecraft NASA has ever built for a planetary science mission, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/science/space/nasa-launch-europa-clipper-mission-icy-moon-jupiter-rcna171706">reported</a>. Its mission is not to find life but to determine if life could exist on Europa, the fourth largest of Jupiter’s 95 moons. Scientists believe that beneath Europa’s icy surface lies a vast saltwater ocean and “chemical elements that are key ingredients to life.” 
“We are looking for a habitable environment,” the mission’s deputy project scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Bonnie Buratti, said. “We’re trying to look for the necessities for life, which are liquid water — and we’re pretty sure that’s there — the right chemistry and energy, whether from active geology or something else, that acts almost like a battery to push life along.”

Europa Clipper’s launch was initially scheduled for Thursday, October 10, but was delayed due to Hurricane Milton which made landfall in Florida late on Wednesday, October 9. The spacecraft will travel 1.8 billion miles over five-and-a-half years before entering Europa’s orbit in 2030. The mission, which began as a concept in 2013, cost $5.2 billion, according to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/14/science/europa-clipper-nasa-launch/index.html">CNN</a>. 
“It feels surreal,” said Jordan Evans, the mission’s project manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, according to NBC News. “There have been battles at every level, from early on with the initial concept for the mission, through getting approved, through each milestone and overcoming various problems along the way. To be at this point, watching the team get ready, is incredible.”

NASA said that the launch was successful and the Europa Clipper was traveling through space on its own after separating from the rocket.

In 1972, scientists made <a href="https://science.nasa.gov/jupiter/moons/europa/europa-facts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spectroscopic observations</a> through a telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Tucson, Arizona, that Europa&#8217;s surface appeared to be mostly made up of water ice. Following more information and pictures being relayed to Earth by NASA&#8217;s Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft, scientists believe that &#8220;Europa may be one of the most promising places in our solar system to find present-day environments suitable for some form of life beyond Earth.&#8221;
Instead of landing on Europa’s surface, the NASA spacecraft will conduct 49 flybys of the moon. The flybys are planned to ensure that the Europa Clipper won’t have to endure Jupiter’s radiation for more than a day at a time, CNN reported. Each of the flybys will take place every two to three weeks.
“If we were to just go into orbit around Europa and study it, the radiation would likely kill off even the most radiation-hardened electronics within one to two months,” Evans said.
“So, every six times that Europa goes around Jupiter, or every 21 days, we’ll be in the exact spot in the universe to be right next to Europa,” Evans added. “And every flyby will be different, so we can get near global coverage of the moon.”

Two astronauts have been stuck on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nasa" target="_blank" rel="noopener">International Space Station</a> (ISS) since early June after their Boeing Starliner — the company&#8217;s first manned spacecraft — sprang leaks and lost multiple thrusters while approaching the space station.
Veteran astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams were supposed to be in space for a total of eight days when they left Earth on June 5, but the Boeing Starliner&#8217;s mechanical issues have prolonged their stay, and NASA is still unsure of when the Americans will come back home. NASA has even suggested that Wilmore and Williams might have to stay at the space station until February, turning their eight-day mission into an eight-month stay.
NASA has been considering greenlighting a return flight in the Boeing Starliner, and Boeing remains confident that its spacecraft could complete the trek back down to Earth, <a href="https://www.livescience.com/space/space-exploration/nasa-delays-boeing-starliner-return-flight-again-amid-major-discussion-about-astronaut-safety" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Live Science. Boeing said it would bring its ship back empty if NASA decides to leave the astronauts at the International Space Station instead of risking a return trip on the plagued Starliner.
&#8220;It&#8217;s a fairly major discussion to decide whether or not we&#8217;re going to have crew on board for Starliner&#8217;s return,&#8221; Ken Bowersox, associate administrator for NASA&#8217;s Space Operations Mission Directorate, said at a news conference on Wednesday. &#8220;We&#8217;re expecting that the data analysis will be ready for a program board by the middle to end of next week, and will be ready for a flight readiness review around the end of next week.&#8221;
The Boeing Starliner had issues even before it launched with Wilmore and Williams on board on June 5 when it sprang a leak in the propulsion-related plumbing. Five of Starliner&#8217;s thrusters also failed as it approached the space station. After conducting tests from the ground and in space, all but one of the spacecraft&#8217;s 28 thrusters appear to be working, the Associated Press <a href="https://www.wesh.com/article/astronauts-stuck-nasa-boeing-iss/61857685" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The thrusters are vital to keep the capsule in the right position during its deorbit burn.
NASA is considering bringing Wilmore and Williams home on a SpaceX Dragon capsule, a spacecraft made by Elon Musk&#8217;s space exploration and rocket company. The Dragon capsule would usually go up to the space station with a four-man crew, but if seats are needed for Wilmore and Williams, it will carry two astronauts of Crew-9 to the ISS. Under that plan, Wilmore and Williams would have to remain at the ISS until February 2025 as that is when Crew-9 is scheduled to return on the SpaceX Dragon capsule.

NASA assured that its astronauts are still healthy and safe aboard the ISS and have enough food and water to stay there for the long haul. Astronauts have stayed at the ISS for months at a time. Recently, Frank Rubio and his Russian crewmembers were at the ISS for over a year after their spacecraft was damaged by space junk after it had docked, the Associated Press <a href="https://www.wesh.com/article/astronauts-stuck-nasa-boeing-iss/61857685" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Russia sent an empty capsule to bring them back home in September 2023.
The Boing Starliner fiasco adds another item to the list of recent issues plaguing the aerospace company. Earlier this year, a door plug flew off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max shortly after it had taken off. More than seven months after the incident, Boeing still doesn&#8217;t know who was responsible for replacing the door plug before it flew off the Alaska Airlines plane, according to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/07/business/boeing-ntsb-hearing-alaska-airlines-door-plug/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN</a>. In a separate case, the aerospace company <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/boeing-to-take-plea-deal-with-justice-dept-over-deadly-plane-crashes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pled guilty</a> last month to conspiracy to defraud the United States after it was charged over two crashes involving the company’s planes in which hundreds of people died.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) fired back at critics after she was caught on camera at an eclipse-viewing event telling students that the moon was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-congresswoman-tells-students-the-moon-is-made-of-gas-and-it-gets-worse" target="_blank" rel="noopener">made of gases</a> — and she blamed Republicans and their &#8220;lust for stupidity&#8221; for focusing on her obvious error.
During the event, Jackson Lee told students, &#8220;You’ve heard the word ‘full moon.’ Sometimes you need to take the opportunity just to come out and see a full moon is that complete rounded circle, which is made up mostly of gases. And that’s why the question is why or how could we as humans live on the moon? Are the gases such that we could do that? The sun is a mighty powerful heat, but it’s almost impossible to go near the sun. The moon is more manageable.&#8221;

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his top military official denied reports this week that Russia is looking to create a nuclear weapon designed to be used in space.
The remarks come after House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) brought attention to the matter last week by warning that a foreign adversary was working on creating a &#8220;destabilizing&#8221; weapon and urged President Joe Biden to declassify the intelligence surrounding the weapon. Subsequent reporting said that the potential weapon would be used to knock out satellites critical to U.S. national security.
&#8220;Our position is clear and transparent: We have always been categorically against the deployment of nuclear weapons in space and we are still against it,&#8221; Putin claimed.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu claimed that Russia does not have the weapon and that the U.S. knew that Russia didn&#8217;t have the weapon, which is something that President Biden has already acknowledged.
Speaking at an event at the Munich Security Conference last week, the commander of Germany’s Military Space Command, Major General Michael Traut, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/commander-of-germanys-military-space-command-warns-about-potential-russian-space-weapon">said</a> that the weapon posed a serious risk to everyone.
“If somebody dares to explode a nuclear weapon in high atmosphere or even space, this would be more or less the end of the usability of that global commons [of orbit],” said Traut. “Nobody would survive an action like that — no satellite, either Chinese or Russian and American or European. If somebody calculates rationally, nobody would employ such a weapon in space.”
Lt. Col. “Tony” Vincent, an active duty scientist in the United States Air Force (USAF) who is currently the Director of Advanced Physics Courses at the Air Force Academy, wrote in a September 2022 piece about the dangers that are posed by a nuclear weapon being detonated in space.
Vincent <a href="https://warontherocks.com/2022/09/getting-serious-about-the-threat-of-high-altitude-nuclear-detonations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">highlighted</a> what happened when the Atomic Energy Commission, in collaboration with the Defense Atomic Support Agency, detonated a nuclear weapon in low Earth orbit back in the Summer of 1962:
<blockquote>The test was codenamed Starfish Prime and it revealed an unfortunate lesson: Even one high altitude nuclear detonation is particularly effective at destroying satellites. Not only were satellites in the line of sight destroyed, but even satellites on the other side of Earth were damaged and rendered inoperable. Starfish Prime damaged or destroyed roughly one third of all satellites in low Earth orbit at the time.</blockquote>
Vincent said that commercial satellites need to become hardened against radiation to avoid being susceptible to a nuclear space weapon but cautioned that while the cost to do so has fallen, “this practice historically drives the component price up by roughly factors of 10 to 100 while potentially increasing size and mass of the total payload.”
He warned that there were two primary reasons that a country would want to use a nuclear weapon in space: to devastate America’s economy and/or to disrupt the U.S. military’s space-based assets that it uses for command and control.
“A nuclear explosion in space disproportionately hurts the United States as the largest single investor in space capabilities,” he wrote. “The United States nets almost $200 billion per year of real gross output from its space assets. Even though military satellites are designed to withstand a harsher charged particle environment, radiation hardening is not a magic cloak of invincibility. Military space assets will be degraded over time from the artificially amped radiation belt created from the nuclear detonation, meanwhile commercial satellites in low Earth orbit will be the first to fail from continually passing through these particle hot spots. Most satellites with a line of sight to the nuclear detonation will be destroyed from the resulting x-rays. Military space capabilities for command and control along with reconnaissance assets may still function for a period following the detonation, but the economic impact of degraded informational space products will be immediate.”

Therefore, using a nuclear weapon in space would be “self-harm.” However, as the history of war reveals, nations choose self-harm, such as when they collapse their own bridges and burn fields, to prevent an invader from gaining ground. The commander of Germany&#8217;s military Space Command warned late last week that the purported nuclear weapon that Russia is considering developing for use in space would render space unusable, potentially forever.
Speaking at an event at the Munich Security Conference, Major General Michael Traut weighed in on the recent revelation about the weapon by the U.S. last week.
&#8220;If somebody dares to explode a nuclear weapon in high atmosphere or even space, this would be more or less the end of the usability of that global commons [of orbit],&#8221; said Traut. &#8220;Nobody would survive an action like that — no satellite, either Chinese or Russian and American or European. If somebody calculates rationally, nobody would employ such a weapon in space.&#8221;
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH), who drew public attention to the matter last week, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/turner-on-why-he-sounded-alarm-on-russian-space-weapon-biden-hiding-inaction-like-with-chinese-spy-balloon">said</a> during an interview over the weekend that part of the reason that he decided to call attention to the classified issue was because he was concerned that the administration was trying to cover-up their inaction on the issue in the same way that they tried to with the Chinese spy balloon.
Lt. Col. “Tony” Vincent, an active duty scientist in the United States Air Force (USAF) who is currently the Director of Advanced Physics Courses at the Air Force Academy, wrote in a September 2022 piece about the dangers that are posed by a nuclear weapon being detonated in space.
Vincent <a href="https://warontherocks.com/2022/09/getting-serious-about-the-threat-of-high-altitude-nuclear-detonations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">highlighted</a> what happened when the Atomic Energy Commission, in collaboration with the Defense Atomic Support Agency, detonated a nuclear weapon in low Earth orbit back in the Summer of 1962:
<blockquote>The test was codenamed Starfish Prime and it revealed an unfortunate lesson: Even one high altitude nuclear detonation is particularly effective at destroying satellites. Not only were satellites in the line of sight destroyed, but even satellites on the other side of Earth were damaged and rendered inoperable. Starfish Prime damaged or destroyed roughly one third of all satellites in low Earth orbit at the time.</blockquote>
Vincent said that commercial satellites need to become hardened against radiation to avoid being susceptible to a nuclear space weapon, but cautioned that while the cost to do so has fallen, “this practice historically drives the component price up by roughly factors of 10 to 100 while potentially increasing size and mass of the total payload.”
He warned that there were two primary reasons that a country would want to use a nuclear weapon in space: to devastate America’s economy and/or to disrupt the U.S. Military’s space-based assets that it uses for command and control.
“A nuclear explosion in space disproportionately hurts the United States as the largest single investor in space capabilities,” he wrote. “The United States nets almost $200 billion per year of real gross output from its space assets. Even though military satellites are designed to withstand a harsher charged particle environment, radiation hardening is not a magic cloak of invincibility. Military space assets will be degraded over time from the artificially amped radiation belt created from the nuclear detonation, meanwhile commercial satellites in low Earth orbit will be the first to fail from continually passing through these particle hot spots. Most satellites with a line of sight to the nuclear detonation will be destroyed from the resulting x-rays. Military space capabilities for command and control along with reconnaissance assets may still function for a period following the detonation, but the economic impact of degraded informational space products will be immediate.”

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) said on Sunday that he believes the Biden administration will begin to take the threat of a Russian space nuclear weapon more seriously now that it has been exposed to the public.
Turner made the remarks during an NBC News interview with Kristen Welker on &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; when asked about his decision last week to release a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-republican-urges-biden-to-declassify-new-intel-on-destabilizing-foreign-military-capability">statement</a> calling attention to a new &#8220;destabilizing foreign military capability.&#8221;
&#8220;The threat is very serious,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Everyone who&#8217;s looked at it used the same language that I have, that it is a very serious threat. And I&#8217;m very glad that the administration is beginning to take action. We met with Jake Sullivan, and he began to lay out a plan that hopefully would begin to address this. I understand that Secretary Blinken here at Munich met with leaders from China and India, according to how the New York Times is reporting. That certainly would be an important big step to try to avert this.&#8221;
Welker then claimed that President Joe Biden said last week that the threat was not a nuclear threat. What Biden actually <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/biden-says-no-nuclear-threat-us-russia-considers-potential-space-weapo-rcna139239">said</a> was that the threat did not present a nuclear threat &#8220;to the people of America or anywhere else in the world&#8221; because the purported weapon is designed to be used only in space to destroy satellites.

But as this becomes more and more public and the administration grapples with what we&#8217;re dealing with, I think they are going to be taking it seriously. I think they will be taking action. And that, obviously, is the goal.&#8221;

A Republican member of the House Intelligence Committee said on Sunday the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-military-official-explains-the-threat-of-a-russian-anti-satellite-nuclear-weapon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">space weapon</a> that Russia is trying to develop could &#8220;blind&#8221; the U.S. economy and military.
Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6347159910112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told Fox News anchor</a> Maria Bartiromo on &#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; about the potential impacts of the threat that engulfed much of Washington in the past week.
&#8220;If this weapon is allowed to fully deploy, it could completely blind our economy. It would take out our GPS,&#8221; Waltz said. &#8220;It could blind our military. It is incredibly serious. It&#8217;s a weapon of mass destruction, not just us — countries all over the world.&#8221;
The issue came to light in the past week when House Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-republican-urges-biden-to-declassify-new-intel-on-destabilizing-foreign-military-capability" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> a statement calling on the Biden administration to declassify intelligence about a &#8220;destabilizing&#8221; military capability from a hostile foreign power.
In the ensuing days, the White House conceded Russia had been working on an <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/15/politics/white-house-russia-anti-satellite/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">anti-satellite capability</a> but stressed that it had not been deployed. And Turner has faced blowback for going public after the panel made some details available to all House members.
Waltz said Turner was &#8220;very frustrated after sending multiple classified letters to the administration asking, &#8216;What are you going to do to stop this threat, to deal with this threat?'&#8221;
He said, &#8220;And it won&#8217;t surprise you: we got radio silence. So the committee voted unanimously, Republican and Democrat, to say, you know what, all members need to be aware. This threat is so serious, so grave, all members need to be aware.&#8221;
Waltz conceded a &#8220;kind of blow up&#8221; but emphasized that it is being taken seriously as the &#8220;director of national intelligence and the national security adviser were on the Hill the next day giving us a strategy and telling us what they&#8217;re going to do about it.&#8221;
The &#8220;fear,&#8221; Waltz added, is that Russian President Vladimir Putin &#8220;has calculated we are far more dependent on space than he is, so that perhaps this would be at his advantage or that he could use it as a serious deterrence to keep us from doing what we need to do.&#8221;
Bartiromo pointed out that some of Turner&#8217;s critics have suggested the chairman was angling to gin up support for more aid to Ukraine, which has stalled in Congress. Waltz dismissed the idea that Ukraine funds or FISA surveillance reauthorization were motivating factors for the chairman.

Waltz added, &#8220;And it was the radio silence, the appearance that the administration was sleepwalking as this threat continued to grow. That&#8217;s what really drove it. And, again, it was a unanimous vote — all sides, from the committee.&#8221;

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) on Thursday defended his decision to release a public statement calling for the Biden administration to &#8220;declassify all information&#8221; related to a threat from a hostile foreign power.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-republican-urges-biden-to-declassify-new-intel-on-destabilizing-foreign-military-capability">statement</a> from Turner generated shockwaves through the media on Wednesday for several hours as little was known about the threat.
&#8220;The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence worked in consultation with the Biden Administration to notify Congress of this national security threat,&#8221; Turner said in the statement on Thursday. &#8220;In addition, language in the bipartisan notification issued by the Chair and Ranking Member to all Members of the House was cleared by the Administration prior to its release.&#8221;
The statement said that the House Intelligence Committee had voted 23 to 1 to make this information available to members of Congress and that the Biden administration had confirmed that they believed the threat was &#8220;serious.&#8221;
Reports surfaced on Wednesday evening saying that the weapon that the Russian Military is working on, which has not yet been fully developed, is a nuclear weapon designed to be deployed in space with the intention of wiping out entire Western satellite networks and knocking out communications and military targeting systems.
ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/white-house-plans-brief-lawmakers-house-chairman-warns/story?id=107232293" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the nuclear weapon would not be deployed against targets on Earth and is only designed to target satellites in space.
A source familiar with the intelligence told the network that the development was “very concerning and very sensitive” and was a “big deal.”

The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/14/us/politics/intelligence-russia-nuclear.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the weapon was still being developed and had not yet been deployed into space. The information is so sensitive that “it could not be declassified without cutting off its source,” the report said.
Members of Congress who saw the intelligence told various publications that the threat was extremely serious, but it was not something that the U.S. public should be worried about at the moment.
“We are going to work together to address this matter, as we do all sensitive matters that are classified,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said Wednesday afternoon. “But we just want to assure everyone steady hands are at the wheel.”

During the conversation, Shapiro zoned in on the current business climate in the West, and Musk revealed what he views as the biggest obstacles standing in the way of companies’ success. The two then discussed the increasing leftist push for companies to go along with DEI. 
“One of the things that you and I had been discussing a little bit offline is the fact that DEI effectively is a conspiracy theory in which there&#8217;s a cadre of powerful people who are at the top and they control everything else that&#8217;s happening,” Shapiro said. “And because those powerful people are at the top, they are exploiting everybody else and they have to be taken down more than one peg. And that conspiracy theory aligns very closely with anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.” 
“I think DEI is very extremely anti-Semitic in its core,” Musk replied. “And it&#8217;s just generally anti-meritocratic, which I think is very dangerous. You want to have a society where you succeed based on your skills and hard work, and that’s it. And it doesn&#8217;t matter about your race, gender, creed, religion, nothing. You know? Just, are you good at your job? Do you work hard? Do you have high integrity? Nothing more.”

Shapiro also asked the billionaire entrepreneur about his concern for declining birth rates around the world, especially in the West, and how much he thinks religion plays a part in people’s choice about having children. 
“The birth rate tends to correlate with the degree to which someone is religious, the degree to which they have the least amount of education, and basically the poorer someone is, the less educated someone is and the more religious they are, the more kids they will have,” Musk said. 
“So I&#8217;m going to make the case to you on a religious level that the only one of those things that is possible to have in the West and not get rid of all the glories of the West is a belief in a higher power or inner religious belief,” Shapiro responded. “I mean, like I&#8217;m doing pretty well, and I have four kids.” 
Shapiro closed out by asking Musk about an “experience that defines” him, and Musk discussed his ideas on philosophy, God, and the meaning of life.  
“In order to [understand the meaning of life] you have to expand the scope and scale of consciousness and get out there and explore the galaxy and then you can better understand the meaning of life,” Musk said.

&#8220;I believe that &#8230; the government is covering up some level of its knowledge and understanding about what some of those things are both in in terms of what chunk of that is our government&#8217;s own secret development programs — you know planes, drones, new technologies that we&#8217;re working on — as well as what we&#8217;re sensing and detecting of advanced adversary technology being tested against U.S. forces or around U.S. airspace,&#8221; he continued.
&#8220;What I&#8217;m unconvinced of,&#8221; Graff added, &#8220;is that the government is covering up meaningful knowledge of alien spacecraft, alien visitors, extraterrestrial contact — I just don&#8217;t see the extraordinary evidence or the fingers of the cover up that one would expect if that was in fact the case.&#8221;
Todd pressed Graff to comment on the recent strides by the U.S. government to publicly address unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) as reports of mysterious sightings grow and to <a href="https://www.defense.gov/News/Transcripts/Transcript/Article/3249303/usdis-ronald-moultrie-and-dr-sean-kirkpatrick-media-roundtable-on-the-all-domai/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">engage with the scientific community</a>.
Graff described there being a &#8220;shift&#8221; since 2017 — when The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/16/us/politics/pentagon-program-ufo-harry-reid.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">made waves</a> with a report on the Pentagon&#8217;s secretive efforts to study UFOs — in which &#8220;serious people are talking seriously about this in the national security circles in Washington and on Capitol Hill.&#8221;
In recent months, there has been a push on Capitol Hill, led by a bipartisan group of House and Senate members to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/another-bureaucracy-top-house-ufo-investigator-cautions-disclosure-legislation-may-be-a-dud-offers-additional-pathway" target="_blank" rel="noopener">enact legislation</a> to force more disclosures as part of a broader defense bill for the coming year. One of those lawmakers, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), was also a guest on the program with Graff. &#8220;Our public wants to know what&#8217;s going on,&#8221; the congressman said.
But part of the &#8220;challenge&#8221; of identifying UAPs, Graff explained, is establishing a &#8220;baseline&#8221; with the help of sensors and other instruments for what may be zipping around the Earth on a typical basis. He did not completely rule out the prospect of extraterrestrial crafts, positing that they may be &#8220;passing all around us all of the time and we don&#8217;t have the technology adequate to notice&#8221; — considering factors such as size and movement speeds across a vast expanse.
