Social media is having a field day mocking the design of the new $2.1 billion Buffalo Bills stadium after photos of obstructed views from multiple seats went viral.
The team replaced the old Highmark Stadium and built a new one across the street, and no expense was spared for the venue — except, it appears, the cost of commonsense designers.
Some seats are blocked by panes of glass, including at the 50-yard-line. There are seats in the upper deck that can’t see the end zone. Expensive lower level seats are obstructed by a standing platform that juts out past the line of vision. 
“Whoever designed the new Bills stadium &#8230; wasn&#8217;t very keen to detail. Imagine paying tens of thousands on PSLs and season tickets and walk into a view like this…” one person said in a popular X post.

Fans attended the team’s first practice in the new stadium over the weekend, which is what led to the backlash. There are currently 17,000 Personal Seat License holders who have one or more seats, per <a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25470074-bills-respond-viral-photos-seats-obstructed-views-new-highmark-stadium">Bleacher Report</a>. 
A rep for the Bills said that the team has heard from &#8220;less than one percent&#8221; of the Personal Seat License account holders about obstructed-view concerns and will handle them on a &#8220;case-by-case basis,&#8221; according to Pro Football Talk&#8217;s Mike Florio.
Florio also said the obstructed-view seats would not be sold for football games, but would rather be used for other events such as concerts. 
As the tension grew, the Bills released a statement that seemingly addressed the issue.
“Thank you to Bills Mafia for setting a new attendance record with more than 50,000 fans at the Return of the Blue &amp; Red,&#8221; a statement from the team said. 
&#8220;Saturday’s practice was a great opportunity to test the new stadium. We are currently addressing internal and external feedback regarding the facility&#8217;s operation following the first event. We’ll utilize the next six weeks to refine any details as we prepare for the home opener on Thursday, September 17.&#8221;

Who’s gonna tell him? Democrat Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed apparently has OnlyFans models appearing every few scrolls in his For You tab on Instagram — according to his interview with <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/db0be6268616c0557b4ebdae8c96d1a38e6bd3bf?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">The Lever</a>. While pacing his home gym, El-Sayed unloaded on social media algorithms for pushing this content on him, perhaps because it “clocked him as a 40-something-year-old man.” In the weeks following the implosion of <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/65de7685d8350f575d884a56baf245532ff61e2e?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">wannabe</a> home-invader rapist turned Democrat Senate candidate Graham Platner, the Democrats might want to move slowly on bending the knee for El-Sayed. Republican opposition research bloodhounds just picked up on a familiar <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/0e9dfc047c24c4dfc428e21b51b63138159e83c1?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">pervy</a> scent.
The recent release of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” is somewhat fitting. The so-called “thirst trap” side of the algorithmic online world is <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/a07317575802bacf9dce03b81743a54106ce59b6?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">much like sailing</a> past the island of the Sirens. You’re scrolling out of <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/106de5f2ff516230d04e29a4689abd368a7f4963?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">boredom</a> and see extra skin, slow down, and in that split second, you have to make a decision whether or not to investigate or flee. We have words for this that are simply out of fashion: lust and temptation. This is widely understood by all of mankind to be a struggle, particularly for men.
El-Sayed is, to his credit, onto something in this viral clip where he expresses concern about pornographic content being fed to young people online. His main claim is that a 14-year-old has an ill-formed limbic system to regulate feelings, mood, and behavior, and they will more easily fall down the soft-porn rabbit hole of influencer content on Instagram. He’s not wrong. The smut is teased on Instagram, then routed out through Linktree and straight to subscription-based porn platforms like OnlyFans.
If you don’t turn away, plug your ears, or figuratively restrain yourself, you’re headed for the sharp rocky coast — the oblivion of porn addiction. The problem with Democrats like El-Sayed is that he can’t bring himself to condemn pornographic content without tacking on, “Should be legal, and I don’t mean to shame anyone…”
Maybe he should suggest shame, or instruct his many followers to live more virtuously. If there’s nothing to be ashamed of, then what’s the problem with the lustful content?
The finger must always be pointed toward an outside nefarious force. In this case, he demonizes the people of Meta who run Instagram and develop parental moderation and teen-safety <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/a6dfe05916450b132f1e70d2823db6c5cb557a97?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">tools</a>, not the liberal culture that promotes sexual liberation or the individual who seeks out explicit content. It’s not politically popular to tell people they are in control and not the victim of a conspiracy — just ask financial commentator Caleb Hammer, whose show produces hugely <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/6750c45be793df8132115f3c7f4ea55a0f9e5c64?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">viral clips of young people</a> blaming everything but themselves for financial shipwreck.
That’s the funny thing about the Sirens and the overall analogy provided by Greek myth. The way we talk about “the algorithm” is often like how people in these stories refer to the wrath of the gods. It’s a way of understanding the world in which things happen to you rather than you being a fully active agent in your own life.
El-Sayed isn’t much older than me, and I wanted to be sure his claim about the onslaught of OnlyFans girls wasn’t happening to me, so I took a peek at my &#8220;For You&#8221; tab on Instagram. I’m happy to share that my feed is all Dragon Ball Z-themed exercise content, Linkin Park concert clips, Star Wars prequel memes, and fully clothed women performing drum covers of Slipknot and Korn songs.
Have I seen tempting content on Instagram, similar to what Abdul El-Sayed is describing? Yes. But your feed will reflect what you say yes to. Still, things will pop up every so often that I don’t want to see. There’s a button for that: Not Interested. ​The algorithm <a href="https://l.gourl.es/l/4a2adc948c28d9610074b5e64da2b99428b6576b?w=anN0b2NrZXJAZGFpbHl3aXJlLmNvbQ&amp;u=11850803">will</a> respond.
If Abdul takes that action, it will solve much of his OnlyFans model problem, unless he or someone on his staff is simultaneously searching for that content.
The stoic philosopher and Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius, said that “Our souls ​become dyed ​w​ith the color of our thoughts,” and while some will contend that you can’t control your thoughts (My mind has trailed off three times to think about my dog whilst writing this sentence), your thoughts are a byproduct of action. What you watch, what you read, what you subscribe to. The things you let in take up residence and slowly shape your character, in their own time. Make better choices.
Abdul, your algorithm is dyed by the color of your search history. Do better, and encourage the same in those who listen to you.

Conservatives love to talk about what’s wrong with my generation: why college kids are marching in support of terrorists, why they have so many genders, and why so many of them are impossibly woke. I’m sure there are plenty of reasons. But as a 13-year-old myself, I’m here to tell you that social media is the problem.
Social media platforms have always had some sway over what adults think politically, but now that kids are getting on them at younger and younger ages, kids are getting radicalized sooner.
We can spend hours arguing about whether kids should be on social media, but the reality is that most of them already are — and have been for some time. The result is that most people in my middle school can’t tell you anything about President Donald Trump or Republicans other than the fact that they’re supposedly evil.
Of course, my classmates have never read articles about this; they just watch short videos on various social media platforms and assume everything they hear is true. These videos twist words, tell lies, and change the narrative because it’s progressives telling the stories, and conservative videos aren&#8217;t on the algorithm.
The day after Charlie Kirk was shot, almost all of my grade had watched his murder on video multiple times. It was all anyone was talking about. But instead of making everyone feel sick, like it should have, it simply turned into a meme. Kids kept singing the viral Charlie Kirk song, not because they were honoring him but because they saw it online and thought it was funny. I asked some of my friends if they knew what Charlie stood for, and I wasn’t surprised that they had no idea. They probably still don’t know today.
Social media had not given them Charlie&#8217;s whole story, only the end. Watching social media turn his death into a meme shows how addictive social media is, and how thoroughly it brainwashes young minds.
It also shows that conservatives aren’t trying to reach kids my age. The internet is full of left-wing ideas, so it is not surprising that so many kids are growing up to have extreme views. Conservative adults worry that college kids are being brainwashed, but by the time these kids reach college, it may already be too late. When they get on social media at younger ages, they also get brainwashed earlier.
Middle schoolers today are already being propagandized from every angle: We go to school, where hyper-partisan teachers tell us we live on stolen land, and then we come home and watch videos about how terrible and evil conservatives are. Right now it’s college kids who are marching in the streets, but in the years to come, it will be my generation, and then the kids behind me who are barely in middle school.
We see a rainbow and think of Pride, and we see coed bathrooms and think it&#8217;s normal because conservatives aren’t making online content aimed at kids. People my age don’t see the other side, and they don’t have conservative voices to inspire them. Conservatives like to talk about the future, but it’s time they started reaching out to the kids who will be that future before it is too late. I wish I could say that rational thinking as we get older is enough to win over my generation, but the reality is the battle is already being fought, one swipe at a time. And right now, conservatives are losing.
But all hope is not lost. I have a front-row seat to what social media is doing to your kids, and it&#8217;s time for you to take a stand and keep them off social media platforms. They may push back, but I’m proof that they can live a completely normal and happy middle school life without it — or even a phone!
We should be learning our values from our family, our history, and our pastors, not letting influencers tell us how to live our lives and view our country. If your kids don&#8217;t have social media, keep it that way. If they’re already doomscrolling, get them to stop before it’s too late. And if you’re my age and happen to be reading this: I hope you put down your phone, go touch grass, and realize that America’s grass will always be greener.

Cleese, a regular critic of President Donald Trump, has recently thrown his weight behind <a href="https://www.restorebritain.org.uk/#:~:text=For%2030%20years%2C%20this%20country,concerns%20of%20ordinary%20British%20people.">Restore Britain</a>, an emerging right-wing party that is focused on addressing the impact of &#8220;mass immigration, economic collapse, woke ideology, and the relentless creep of radical Islam.&#8221;
The &#8220;Monty Python&#8221; alum responded to a poll asking whether he was best described as a &#8220;true British patriot&#8221; or a &#8220;racist who hate[s] Muslims&#8221; — and he said that the problem was not with any race, but with cultures that were incompatible with Western values.

The U.S. military is weighing new restrictions on cellphone use for some American troops serving in the Middle East amid concerns that Iran is using publicly available social media posts to evaluate the effectiveness of its missile and drone strikes.
Some U.S. service members deployed in Jordan have been told they could be <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/iran-mines-us-troops-social-media-military-considers-seizing-cellphones">required</a> to surrender their phones in the coming days.
<a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/us-commander-warns-troops-their-videos-help-iran-sources-say-2026-07-29/">Reuters</a> reported that two sources familiar with the matter said some troops had been told their phones would be confiscated, while a third source said military officials are also considering broader cellphone restrictions across the region because of operational security concerns. Those wider restrictions have not been confirmed.
The discussions emerged as fighting between the United States and Iran has escalated. On Wednesday, President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/iran-mines-us-troops-social-media-military-considers-seizing-cellphones">vowed</a> an intentional response after Iran launched strikes targeting U.S. troops in Jordan, saying the United States would &#8220;beat the f*cking sh*t out of&#8221; Iran.
U.S. Central Command confirmed that CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper recently sent an internal message to service members emphasizing operational security. CENTCOM declined to release the message publicly.
&#8220;The message is a general reminder to our service members on the importance of maintaining operational security,&#8221; CENTCOM spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins stated. &#8220;This is one of many opportunities Admiral Cooper has used to convey operational priorities.&#8221;
A Defense Department official also declined to comment to Fox News whether troops had been ordered to surrender their phones or whether additional restrictions were under consideration, saying CENTCOM does not discuss force protection tactics or techniques for operational security reasons.
Cooper warned that publicly available information, including social media posts, news reports,, and audio/ video footage, can help Iran determine where its missiles and drones landed.
&#8220;The direct, unavoidable cost of this open-source intelligence could be measured in the lives of American service members,&#8221; Cooper reportedly wrote.
Cooper reportedly cited footage uploaded online after Iran&#8217;s July 17 attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. The attack killed Pvt. Isabella Gonzales and fatally wounded 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan. Sgt. Angel Rampersad is also believed to have been killed.
One video, recorded through a service member&#8217;s Meta smart glasses, showed troops rushing to shelter and documented the route the individual took while evacuating. According to Fox News, Cooper warned that publicly available footage can help reveal whether Iranian strikes hit populated facilities, struck empty areas, or missed altogether.
Rules mitigating personal cellphone usage already differ across the military. Personal devices are prohibited during sensitive missions and inside classified facilities, while many service members stationed at established overseas bases are still permitted to keep and use their phones.
Cooper&#8217;s warning is separate from concerns brought in June about commercially available cellular location data. CENTCOM previously told lawmakers it had received &#8220;multiple threat reports concerning adversary exploitation of commercial location data to target or surveil U.S. personnel in theater.&#8221;
A bipartisan group led by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Rep. Pat Harrigan (R-NC), later urged the Pentagon to strengthen protections against that threat, warning that commercially available location data could be used to identify military installations, monitor troop movements, or track individual service members.

You could call my friends and me &#8220;tradwives.&#8221; I have three kids with one on the way, I quit my government job to stay home with them, and I like to make <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-tried-using-ai-to-simplify-my-life-and-it-made-things-worse">homemade meals</a>. As a conservative woman, I’ve found myself surrounded by many women who fit the description of tradwives and who hold that culture in high esteem.
For the last couple of years, the tradwife lifestyle, which promotes traditional family values and homemaking with an emphasis on all things homemade, has dominated conservative circles. Homesteading is no longer a term only found in history books. Sourdough bread became synonymous with housewife prestige. Milkmaid dresses and the sundress aesthetic defined conservative fashion — they even spilled over into mainstream fashion — and the “trad catholic” movement almost promised to be the next great cultural reset.
But recently, feelings about the tradwife movement have changed. So much so that Evie, a conservative women&#8217;s magazine that has done a lot to promote the tradwife aesthetic, published a <a href="https://share.google/ns9ll3jwOTMs6saI8">piece</a> titled “‘Everything is Tradwife’ is the New ‘Everything is Racist.’” The provocatively titled article made the argument that &#8220;tradwife&#8221; has become an overused slur, often employed against women who embrace any inkling of traditional values.
Do you like wearing sundresses? Suddenly people who disagree with you politically can call you a “tradwife” as if it’s a universally understood assault on your moral character. Then there’s Anne Hathaway’s upcoming movie adaptation of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-new-book-that-treats-traditional-wives-like-the-enemy">the book “Yesteryear,”</a> critiquing the tradwife movement on the big screen. The book and movie have rekindled the debate regarding the movement’s merits from mainstream critics and conservative influencers alike.
As Allie Beth Stuckey <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/06/26/tradwife-novel-yesteryear-misunderstands-christian-women/">wrote</a> for the Washington Post last month, &#8220;For years, I have been a critic of the tradwife trend, not because I dislike home schooling or sourdough, but because it conflates the traditional and the biblical. It encourages young women to think that cooking from scratch or wearing cottagecore garb is a necessary part of fulfilling God’s plan for their lives. There is nothing wrong with neutral linens or chicken coops, but neither is synonymous with being a good wife and mother.&#8221;
Even social media icons  who popularized the tradwife lifestyle such as Nara Smith have made it clear they don’t consider themselves tradwives. Smith, who has previously <a href="https://people.com/nara-smith-says-she-never-quite-understood-tradwife-label-11954834">distanced</a> herself from the label, just joined the Call Her Daddy podcast to make her thoughts clear. She argued that “we put women in very narrow, very specific boxes in order to make sense of them,” suggesting that “tradwife” is one such example. For her, it is far too narrow a box for the digital empire Smith has built for herself (4 million followers on Instagram and 9 million followers on TikTok) and fails to account for all the creative business ventures that got her there and the way she and her husband split household tasks.
Hannah Neeleman, better known as Ballerina Farm, has also <a href="https://people.com/ballerina-farm-hannah-neeleman-on-trad-wife-criticism-and-more-8684743">stated</a> that she “doesn’t necessarily identify” with the title even though she’s considered the movement’s poster child. 
Why has the tradwife trend waned in popularity, even among conservatives? Is it because, for some Christians, it was a form of materialism in the guise of holiness? Was the tradwife lifestyle and accompanying &#8220;Little House on the Prairie&#8221; Instagram aesthetic, with its insistence on homegrown, homemade everything, simply too hard for women to stick to over time?
While all these factors are likely at play, its biggest flaw is that the tradwife movement entails an isolating lifestyle, especially at a time when loneliness and depression are plaguing Americans. Much of the trad wife movement is admirable when grounded in religious and philosophical convictions about the sanctity of family life, healthier living, connection to land, and rejection of overconsumption. But its cultural trajectory has waned because of its failure to promote the community-minded matrons that society so desperately needs right now.
It’s not that the tradwife movement is anti-community or un-neighborly on purpose. Rather, it makes community involvement difficult from a practical standpoint. It’s hard to get to know your neighbors if you don’t have any for miles because you homestead. It’s incredibly difficult to manage a hobby farm and homeschool children and mill your own flour while being an active volunteer in your community, let alone running a local business or even being the one to organize a volunteer program or community-focused organization.
Home gardening, hobby farming, and homeschooling in and of themselves can easily become full time jobs. Undertaking them all together, with the added emphasis of making everything from scratch, leaves women with little bandwidth for community involvement or sometimes even good neighborliness.
More importantly, I have personally seen the tradwife lifestyle make it hard for tradwives to connect with women in other walks of life, such as single or working moms who don’t have the time or resources to follow traditional homemaking practices. At the start of a Bible study last fall at my church, a woman introduced herself by saying she was a homemaker extraordinaire, and that if you’re into “home birth, homesteading, and all things home” she’d love to connect and be friends. I know she was searching for likeminded women to befriend and likely didn’t mean it to be purposefully exclusionary. But I remember thinking to myself, Well, since I’ve had a hospital birth and resort to Costco for easy dinners, are we not going to be friends? And if I felt excluded as someone who is a stay-at-home mom with a fairly traditional lifestyle, how would a single or working mom feel hearing this?
I find it hard to imagine that many die-hard tradwives would be able to connect with a single mom who, if she were to have an hour of much-coveted free time, would love for a friend to take her out to chat about the mysteries surrounding Taylor Swift’s wedding over a Starbucks frappé (the mold risk! the sugar!). Perhaps that’s a caricature of both the tradwife and the single mom, but it drives home the point that it is difficult to connect with women in different walks of life, particularly the more vulnerable women in society, if you have withdrawn from it in order to embrace the time-consuming demands of all things tradwife. 
This is precisely why the trad movement has lost traction: While it rightfully beautified home life, it made such exclusive, archaic standards for homemaking that it unintentionally excluded community involvement at a time when Americans are in desperate need of neighborliness.
Instead of the tradwife movement, I’m rooting for the good neighbor movement. For the return of matrons who are community pillars and intimately involved with and invested in their communities, even if that means we have to loosen up some of our homemaking standards and that meals from scratch are a little more sparse at our dinner tables. There was a time when we all knew not only our neighbors, but also our local elected officials, grocers, and baristas and even the homeless. We used to praise women for involvement in civil society, whether that be occasional volunteering or actively leading local organizations that thread families together in community.
Now, we seem to have settled on two extremes: We’re either applauding corporate female leaders or we’re in the tradwife camp, and there’s little acknowledgement that prioritizing home was never meant to be divorced from community involvement and even leadership.
Remember in World War II when women banded together to support the war effort from home? We’re probably familiar with the fact that women were the ones who kept vital industrial jobs going and that WWII marked the entrance of women into the workforce. But even women who did not formally join the workforce also rallied the community around the war effort, creating sewing groups to mend uniforms, organizing Red Cross chapters, and ensuring that the war effort was not only supported from Washington, but from every strata of American life. If the need arose today, we would not be connected enough with our communities to accomplish anything similar. 
There are women, like my former neighbor three doors down, who give me hope. She and her family of six recently moved, leaving a large hole in our community. She knew everyone in the neighborhood. She was the one who alerted me to the presence of local political women’s chapters for involvement. Her children were always bringing over gifts or treats for those going through a rough time in the neighborhood or for the births of new babies, and there were impromptu pizza block parties in their small front yard. Despite what her own families’ political views may have been, their farewell party was filled with individuals of all political persuasions.
She certainly did not make everything from scratch, but her door was always open (quite literally, likely because one of their children was outdoors and left it so). This is precisely what I’d like to see glorified more in conservative culture: less emphasis on a picturesque homestead or an Instagram-perfect, made-from-scratch meal and more emphasis on who’s invited to eat with you. A homemade pie is elite, but I’d rather someone show up at my door with boxed brownies than not at all, and I’d wager most of us in the lonely, digitally oppressive world of ours would agree.
The tradwife movement’s decline in popularity may bring some much-needed moderation to the conservative womansphere — and the freedom for women to do some of the things that women intuitively do best: nurture, grow, connect with others, and model community involvement for their children. 
Milkmaid dresses haven’t gone away, but they’re no longer dominating fashion-forward conservative social media accounts. Instead, a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-preppy-comeback">Ralph Lauren-esque</a>, Americana aesthetic has swept in strong this summer. Fashion reads American. I don’t think this is a coincidence; fashion always winks at deeper cultural trends, and ours is nodding toward a lost American identity and community. As the tradwife trends wanes, I hope we conservative women will loosen some of our homemaking preconceptions enough to get out and active in our community — to embody the proverbial Marys of the world rather than the Marthas, even if it means we forgo the sourdough-making.

Singer-songwriter Noah Kahan criticized the White House after it used his song &#8220;American Cars&#8221; in a social media post highlighting President Donald Trump&#8217;s visit to a Michigan auto plant.
The White House posted a slideshow on TikTok and Instagram featuring photos from Trump&#8217;s recent visit to Michigan, using Kahan&#8217;s song from his fourth album, &#8220;The Great Divide,&#8221; as background music.
The song is available for use across several social media platforms — thanks to a 2024 deal between the Universal Music Group and Meta — but that&#8217;s not stopping Kahan and &#8220;American Cars&#8221; co-writer, guitarist Noah Levine, from complaining that the White House used it.

&#8220;Would never approve of my music being used in support of you or this administration,&#8221; Kahan commented on the White House&#8217;s Instagram post.
Levine, according to a Billboard <a href="https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/noah-kahan-slams-white-house-unauthorized-use-american-cars-1236305033/">report</a>, also commented on the post, saying, &#8220;You fat f*ck this song isn’t for you&#8221; — but the comment appears to have been deleted.
The music has since been disabled on the White House Instagram post.
Kahan is far from the first to complain about President Trump&#8217;s use of music for either a public appearance or a social media post.
Just last week, pop star Katy Perry complained that her song &#8220;Firework&#8221; was used in a White House video of military operations in Iran.

Arizona State University, long known as one of America&#8217;s biggest party schools, is now offering a bachelor&#8217;s degree for aspiring influencers. 
The university&#8217;s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication recently unveiled a Bachelor of Arts in Content Creation, a program designed to prepare students to &#8220;become an influencer and strategic storyteller who thrives in the rapidly evolving creator economy.&#8221;
According to the university, the program is aimed at students who &#8220;dream of monetizing&#8221; their social media presence. Courses include How To Become An Influencer, On-Camera Presence, Podcasting, Social Media Foundations, The Digital Audience, and Interpersonal Influence.
ASU says the degree goes beyond creating social media posts.
Students will study multimedia production, audience analytics, personal branding, social media strategy, and integrated communications while participating in internships, brand partnerships, and content creation trips in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and abroad.
Jessica Pucci, senior associate dean at the Cronkite School, <a href="https://www.azfamily.com/2026/07/21/learn-how-be-an-influencer-with-asus-content-creation-major/">said</a> students will analyze performance metrics across multiple platforms, test different content strategies, and use data to grow their audiences.
Their senior capstone project requires students to spend an entire semester creating content on a platform such as TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube while demonstrating measurable audience growth. 
&#8220;They will have a platform of their choice with real content and real followers and a real audience behind them,&#8221; Pucci said. 
University officials say the program reflects the rapid growth of the creator economy, which Goldman Sachs <a href="https://www.goldmansachs.com/insights/articles/the-creator-economy-could-approach-half-a-trillion-dollars-by-2027">projects</a> could reach nearly $480 billion by 2027. 
Supporters say the coursework teaches practical skills that many successful creators eventually have to learn through trial and error.
But the announcement has also drawn plenty of skepticism <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/07/24/lifestyle/arizona-state-university-now-offers-a-content-creation-major/?utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter">online</a>, with critics questioning whether students need a four-year degree to learn skills many internet personalities developed on their own.
Arizona influencer Anna Elizabeth, who also works as a medical assistant, said she wishes the program had existed when she began building her online audience. 
&#8220;How do I get brands to notice me?&#8221; she said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a little bit difficult to understand that portion if you haven&#8217;t done it for a long time.&#8221;
Even some faculty members questioned whether the degree justifies its cost. ASU philosophy professor Owen Anderson asked on <a href="https://x.com/dr_owenanderson/status/2080107269468066231">X</a> whether the major would satisfy new federal accountability standards requiring degree programs to improve graduates&#8217; earning potential compared to workers without a college education.
Arizona State is not the first university to embrace the influencer economy. Syracuse University recently established a Center for the Creator Economy, while Graceland University and Arizona&#8217;s Grand Canyon University offer degree programs focused on digital content and social media.

French lawmakers voted Tuesday to ban social media for children under 15, making France the first European Union country to adopt such a restriction and adding momentum to a growing global push to protect minors online.
Both chambers of Parliament approved the sweeping ban, delivering a significant policy victory to French President Emmanuel Macron. The legislation also includes restrictions on mobile phones in high schools, according to the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/france-social-media-ban-macron-94abd981ccea85138af314cfb1ea62cf">Associated Press.</a>
One in two French teenagers spends between two and five hours a day on a smartphone, according to the Associated Press, which cited a government watchdog report showing that about 90% of children ages 12 to 17 use cellphones daily for internet access.
Under the new legislation, children under 15 will be barred from opening social media accounts beginning September 1, according to <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/french-lawmakers-vote-social-media-ban-children-2026-07-21/">Reuters</a>. After that, social media platforms will have four months to close existing accounts and must implement age-verification systems. 
Members of the left-wing France Unbowed party opposed the bill, arguing that it&#8217;s unconstitutional and unenforceable. Macron, who is set to leave office in 2027, is pushing for the law to take effect ahead of the upcoming school year. 
The movement is gaining traction in parts of the United States as well, with several <a href="https://abcnews.com/Politics/states-banning-cellphones-schools/story?id=125515186">states and school districts</a> passing laws restricting cell phone use in classrooms.
About six-in-ten American adults support banning anyone under the age of 16 from using social media sites, according to a new <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2026/07/01/majority-of-americans-support-banning-social-media-for-kids-under-16/">Pew Research Center survey. </a>
In December 2025, Australia <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/australias-novel-social-media-ban-for-kids-sparks-debate-as-some-platforms-get-a-free-pass">became the first nation</a> to ban children under 16 from creating accounts on many social media platforms. 
“We haven’t really seen a plan like this be put into action,” said Jessica Melugin, the director of the Center for Technology &amp; Innovation at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. “So I think the world is certainly watching.”
Under the law, Australia requires social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube, to take “reasonable steps” to block children under 16 years old from creating accounts. Any platform that fails to restrict children under 16 from gaining access could face civil penalties of up to $49.5 million AUD, according to Australia&#8217;s <a href="https://www.esafety.gov.au/newsroom/media-releases/platforms-on-notice-to-comply-with-social-media-minimum-age">eSafety Commissioner</a>. In June, the government announced plans to double those fines to $99 million AUD (about $68 million).
The United Kingdom has also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/millions-of-kids-could-soon-be-banned-from-tiktok-and-youtube">debated a similar proposal,</a> though it remains unclear whether the current government will pursue it. 
Closer to home, Canadian lawmakers also introduced a social media ban for children. 
It remains unclear whether a full-scale ban, as seen in Europe and Australia, would pass First Amendment muster in the United States.

Pepsi riled up some especially sensitive social media followers with a post they somehow interpreted as making light of sexual consent.  
The beverage company apologized for the post and deleted it after getting slammed in the comments.
The original post, immortalized in screenshots, was shared on July 6. It said: &#8220;Pepsi Wild Cherry is what happens when regular cherry stops asking permission.”

The critics claim this phrasing made light of consent. &#8220;Pepsi, what the hell? Promoting r*pe culture? This is shameful,&#8221; one comment said. 
&#8220;Hey @Pepsi this is sickening and disturbing. &#8216;Stops asking permission&#8217; isn&#8217;t a clever marketing line to me — it&#8217;s making light of consent,” another agreed.
This led to critics calling out previous posts from the beverage company, which were now being interpreted in a new light. These included one that said, “You’re being left on read. I’m in their hand. We are not the same,” and another that read, “Crack me. Sip me. Tease me. Taste me. But please don’t shake me.” 
Plenty of people came to the soda maker&#8217;s defense, arguing the outrage mob was overreacting to something silly.
“I’m sorry, I’m just not going to buy that Pepsi was posting out rape culture jokes, as some have implied,” one response <a href="https://x.com/yashar/status/2074593326620119168?s=43">said.</a> “The ‘wild’ alongside ‘stops asking permission’ clearly implies that their intention was about celebrating rebellion not about encouraging people to not be concerned with consent.”
Pepsi issued a follow-up apology post.
“Our recent Wild Cherry post landed in a way we never intended. We hear you, we’re sorry, and the post has been deleted,” a Threads post from July 7 said.
The controversy comes at a time when people are having strong reactions to brand social marketing campaigns, with efforts at jokes or edgy sentiments often leading to outsized reactions from followers. For example, in 2021, Burger King posted, then removed, a call for more female chefs by writing, “Women belong in the kitchen.” It didn’t help matters that it was shared on International Women’s Day.
Social media followers <a href="https://www.dailymail.com/lifestyle/food-drink/article-9341553/Burger-King-UKs-call-female-chefs-backfired-tweet-women-belong-kitchen.html">called the sentiment</a> “misogynistic” and “sexist” despite it all just being a joke.
