Actress <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Anne Hathaway</a> said she recently celebrated a major “milestone” amid her <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sobriety">sobriety</a> journey.
The 41-year-old Academy Award winner said she’s been avoiding <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/alcohol">alcohol</a> for five years now. Hathaway discussed the topic during a recently published New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/27/magazine/anne-hathaway-interview.html">interview</a> after being asked to share her thoughts on turning 40 and officially reaching middle age.
“There are so many other things I identify as milestones. I don’t normally talk about it, but I am over five years sober,” she told the outlet.
“That feels like a milestone to me. Forty feels like a gift,” Hathaway continued. “The fact of the matter is I hesitate at calling things ‘middle age’ simply because I can be a semantic stickler and I could get hit by a car later today. We don’t know if this is middle age. We don’t know anything.”
The actress, whose films have grossed more than $6.8 billion worldwide, previously discussed giving up drinking in part because of the responsibilities of motherhood.
“I’m gonna stop drinking while my son’s living in my house,” Hathaway said during an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2019. 
“I don’t totally love the way I [drink] and he’s getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the mornings,” she continued. “I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school, I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover and that was enough for me. I didn’t love that one.”

The actress and her husband, Adam Shulman, are parents to Jonathan, born in March 2016, and Jack, who joined the family in November 2019.
She also spoke about going alcohol-free during a <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/anne-hathaway-cover-story">Vanity Fair</a> interview published last month.
&#8220;I knew deep down [drinking] wasn&#8217;t for me,&#8221; Hathaway said. &#8220;And it just felt so extreme to have to say, &#8216;But none?&#8217; But none. If you&#8217;re allergic to something or have an anaphylactic reaction to something, you don&#8217;t argue with it. So I stopped arguing with it.&#8221;
&#8220;My personal experience with it is that everything is better,&#8221; she said of maintaining sobriety. &#8220;For me, it was wallowing fuel. And I don&#8217;t like to wallow.&#8221;

Former “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/reality-tv">Jackass</a>” star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Steve-O</a> claims he turned down an appearance on Bill Maher’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/podcast">podcast</a> because the host refused to refrain from smoking <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marijuana">marijuana</a> in front of him.
The 49-year-old reality star, whose real name is Stephen Glover, went through a very public battle with addiction and says he’s been sober for 16 years. Glover told guest Patrick Bet-David on a recent episode of his podcast, “Wild Ride,” that drugs were the reason he didn’t appear on Maher’s “Club Random.”
“For me, I’m a clean and sober guy. It’s very important that I maintain my sobriety,” Steve-O said, per <a href="https://ew.com/steve-o-bill-maher-refusing-not-smoke-pot-podcast-8623659">Entertainment Weekly</a>. “It’s approaching 16 years. I am about to be sweet 16. Really, there’s nothing that I value more than my sobriety. There’s nothing more that I protect than my recovery. And I found it kind of upsetting when the Bill Maher podcast, which I saw you on, reached out.”
“His thing is, he smokes pot the whole time while he interviews people. I said I’d happily go on there, but while I’m on, out of respect for my sobriety, could he refrain from smoking pot. He said no. That’s a deal breaker,” the reality star added.
Glover said he’s never encountered this issue before as a podcast guest.

“Mike Tyson’s podcast is called ‘Hotboxin,’” Steve-O added. “Be real! All of these prolific potheads, I’ve been on their shows and it wasn’t so important to them to blow marijuana smoke in my face. But for Bill Maher, it was a deal breaker.”
The outlet reported that Maher usually smokes marijuana during “Club Random” interviews but did not during a recent discussion with Sheryl Crow that aired on March 24. 
While discussing the Israel-Hamas war, Maher said, &#8220;That&#8217;s when I need a joint, but I will never light one up,” he said. “But can I hold one?”
Crow replied, “If I weren’t singing tomorrow, I’d say light that bad boy up right now.&#8221;
“I’ve never not,&#8221; Maher said. &#8220;But for you? First of all, I would do this standing on my head, but it is a little like running a marathon for the first time.&#8221;

Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/john-stamos">John Stamos</a> recalls being so depressed about getting a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/alcohol">DUI</a> in 2015 that he kept drinking.
“When I did get the DUI…I came home from the hospital that night, I sat down, I drank a bottle of wine just to forget what just happened,” the “Full House” actor said during a recent interview with <a href="https://people.com/john-stamos-says-he-drank-a-bottle-of-wine-after-dui-in-2015-exclusive-8418900">People</a>. “And I never sobered up.”
The 60-year-old said immediately after the incident, he had to go film “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.” Stamos said he kept drinking to numb the pain of what he was going through.
“When you sober up, you have to look at the ugly truth, so you keep drinking,” he told the outlet. “So I was kind of just loosely buzzed through the shooting of that movie.”
Stamos said those two incidents represent a rock bottom point in his life. “That was bottom,” he said during a recent appearance on the “<a href="https://www.bialikbreakdown.com/watch-podcast/john-stamos">Bialik Breakdown</a>” podcast. “But I didn’t get it and I just numbed myself for a few weeks after that. And when I came home, my sisters were like, ‘Okay, it’s time to go, we found this place.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m ready.’”

“I hated it. I really hated the way I felt, hated disappointing people, hated myself, hated looking in the mirror going, ‘This is not who my parents raised. What am I doing? Who is this idiot?’ I would be so embarrassed,” he continued. “I had everything growing up. I had a beautiful childhood. I had no excuse to f*** my life up. And I did and it made me sick.”
Stamos entered a 30-day rehab in July 2015. He credits his family for helping him maintain <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sobriety">sobriety</a>, which he discussed in more detail in his memoir, “If You Would Have Told Me.”
“They have kept me on this path because going down the road of being sober and taking care of yourself, everybody tries,” the actor said in October, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/john-stamos-recalls-moment-he-realized-he-had-to-sober-up-and-kick-alcohol-addiction">reported</a>. “Everybody does it. You could get going for a little while. Then, it’s like, ‘I can drink again.’ So it’s staying on the path is what they mostly do for me.”

During a wide-ranging interview for <a href="https://www.bodyandsoul.com.au/wellness/supermodel-elle-macpherson-on-success-sobriety-and-turning-60/news-story/432bf5ad9f98cfec563a14cb6ef01911" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Body+Soul</a> magazine, the 59-year-old supermodel said that before she celebrated her 40th birthday, she realized she had an alcohol problem.
&#8220;I stopped drinking in 2003 because I felt I couldn&#8217;t be fully present in my life and it was a wonderful springboard of getting to know myself on a deeper level,&#8221; Macpherson told the outlet.
&#8220;Everybody has their own journey and I&#8217;m not interested in telling other people what to do but I know that this was a decision that I&#8217;ve never regretted,&#8221; she added.
&#8220;Although it required discipline and persistence the bottom line is you can&#8217;t be well and present in your life if you&#8217;re not present and well, and alcohol doesn&#8217;t really support that,&#8221; Macpherson continued. &#8220;It&#8217;s very difficult to get to know yourself if you&#8217;re numbing yourself.&#8221;
In a recent <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Cwp_ytApolL/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instagram</a> post, she celebrated her major milestone of 20 years of sobriety. Her post included a close-up shot of her Alcoholics Anonymous tri-plate blue and gold token.
In 2020, Macpherson spoke to <a href="https://nz.news.yahoo.com/apos-introspective-apos-elle-macpherson-150636100.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gritty magazine</a> and reflected on her sobriety path.
&#8220;It&#8217;s funny, 40 is such an introspective year,&#8221; Elle told the magazine. &#8220;I actually got sober when I was 40. I felt like I wanted to spend time in introspection.&#8221;
And now ahead of turning 60 in March, the supermodel said she feels &#8220;incredible.&#8221;

They always say it&#8217;s not the years in your life it&#8217;s the life in your years. That&#8217;s what I like to help people with, which is how they can live their life to their fullest.&#8221;
The model was previously married, once to fashion photographer Gilles Bensimon and second to hotel billionaire Jeffrey Soffer. Macpherson also has two children from a previous relationship.

Not long after the DUI, Stamos admitted <a href="https://people.com/celebrity/john-stamos-enters-rehab-for-substance-abuse-people-exclusive/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">himself to rehab</a>, which he said &#8220;was dark for a little bit.&#8221; But, he added,&#8221;it started to get better&#8221; and he ended up making a &#8220;lot of really good friends.&#8221;

Stamos credits his wife of five years, Caitlin McHugh Stamos, and their 5-year-old son for helping him stay sober.

Country star Jake Owen celebrated being nearly two years sober on Monday with a series of posts. He opened up about the decision to stay away from alcohol and shared that &#8220;life is so much better&#8221; without it.
In a series of <a href="https://tasteofcountry.com/jake-owen-sober-life-is-so-much-better/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instagram Stories</a>, the 41-year-old country singer sent a message to those who might be thinking about not drinking anymore as he explained that he&#8217;s found that a sober lifestyle is just better for him overall.
&#8220;689 days ago, I made a decision,&#8221; Owen wrote. &#8220;I&#8217;ve stuck to it, and I&#8217;m really proud of myself. I was not at a point where I had a drinking problem, I was just being an a**hole and being a person I didn&#8217;t want to be.&#8221;

In 2022, the &#8220;Made for You&#8221; hitmaker talked about his path to sobriety and said that he made the choice to not drink after embarrassing himself after &#8220;drinking too much alcohol one night,&#8221; the <a href="https://tasteofcountry.com/jake-owen-sober-quit-drinking/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outlet</a> noted.
&#8220;317 days ago I embarrassed myself after drinking too much alcohol one night,&#8221; Owen wrote at the time. &#8220;It wasn&#8217;t the first time, either. The next day, I told myself, &#8216;Never again.&#8217; I am better than that, and the people I love the most deserve better. My family, my little girls and my friends.&#8221;
&#8220;Just wanted to share my journey in case anyone woke up this morning and wants to make a change,&#8221; he added. &#8220;None of us aren&#8217;t perfect &#8230; I&#8217;m just trying to be the best version of myself these days.&#8221;

During the 30-year-old supermodel&#8217;s recent interview for <a href="https://www.elle.com/uk/life-and-culture/a44626030/cara-delevingne-elle-cover-2023/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elle UK</a>, Delevingne talked about her decision last year to check herself into a rehab center for substance abuse issues and admitted it hasn&#8217;t been easy.
&#8220;It hasn&#8217;t, but there have never been moments when I&#8217;m like, &#8216;This isn&#8217;t worth it,'&#8221; Delevingne said. &#8220;It&#8217;s been worth every second.&#8221;
&#8220;I just don&#8217;t know what it would take for me to give it up,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I am stable. I&#8217;m calmer.&#8221;
The model said she&#8217;s learned a lot about herself through the struggle to stay sober.

In March, the &#8220;Paper Towns&#8221; star told <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/cara-delevingne-april-cover-2023-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vogue</a> that she decided to get serious about sobriety after paparazzi photos surfaced of her looking disheveled.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve had interventions of a sort, but I wasn&#8217;t ready,” Delevingne said. &#8220;That&#8217;s the problem. If you&#8217;re not face-first on the floor and ready to get up again, you won&#8217;t. At that point, I really was.&#8221;
&#8220;I always thought that the work needs to be done when the times are bad, but actually the work needs to be done when they&#8217;re good,&#8221; she added. &#8220;The work needs to be done consistently. It&#8217;s never going to be fixed or fully healed but I&#8217;m okay with that, and that&#8217;s the difference.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s a scary thing to the people around you who love you,&#8221; Delevingne continued. &#8220;At that point, there was a lot of people who were very worried, understandably so.&#8221;

Hollywood star Tatum O&#8217;Neal — who has struggled with drug addiction for decades — opened up about the stroke she suffered in 2020 from an overdose, which she said almost killed her, and her long path to recovery.
During an interview with the 59-year-old actress and her son, Kevin McEnroe, the two talked about how O&#8217;Neal is doing several years into recovery after her overdose and stroke — which resulted in spending six weeks in a coma.
&#8220;I almost died,&#8221; O&#8217;Neal told <a href="https://people.com/tatum-o-neal-stroke-almost-died-exclusive-7552983?utm_campaign=people&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=instagram&amp;utm_content=likeshop" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People</a> magazine.
McEnroe, her son with ex-husband and former tennis star John McEnroe, said when his mom overdosed, &#8220;It was the phone call we&#8217;d always been waiting for.&#8221;
&#8220;She also had a cardiac arrest and a number of seizures,&#8221; McEnroe said. &#8220;There were times we didn&#8217;t think she was going to survive.&#8221;

The star&#8217;s son said the isolation his mom felt during COVID combined with chronic pain was one of the factors that led to the overdose and stroke.
&#8220;She had become very isolated,&#8221; McEnroe said. &#8220;With the addition of morphine and heavier pharmaceuticals, it was getting scary. COVID, chronic pain, all these things led to a place of isolation. In that place, I don&#8217;t think, for her, there was much hope.&#8221;
In May 2020, the Oscar winner was found by a friend in her Century City apartment where she was rushed to the hospital after an overdose.
There she was diagnosed with <a href="https://people.com/health/aphasia-can-have-many-causes-an-expert-shares-what-to-know-about-this-complex-condition/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aphasia</a> and &#8220;had damage to her right frontal cortex,&#8221; McEnroe told the outlet.
&#8220;At times, it was touch and go,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I had to call my brother and sister and say she was thought to be blind, deaf and potentially might never speak again.&#8221;
&#8220;She didn&#8217;t know where she was,&#8221; McEnroe continued &#8220;She couldn&#8217;t say, &#8216;I&#8217;m scared.'&#8221;
For the past three years, O&#8217;Neal has been working hard to get back her strength, memory, and ability to read and write.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve been through a lot,&#8221; the actress said.
McEnroe admitted his mom still has a ways to go as she works on her recovery and noted that, &#8220;Emotionally the things that made my mom want to take drugs in the first place, those things are still very present.&#8221;
&#8220;I’ve been trying to get sober my whole life,&#8221; the &#8220;Paper Moon&#8221; star said. &#8220;Every day, I am trying.&#8221;

Cara Delevingne said that when she saw the disheveled paparazzi photos of her at an airport in Los Angeles in September, it was a wake-up call that led her to take the steps to sobriety over the last four months.
The 30-year-old model/actress opened up to <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/cara-delevingne-april-cover-2023-interview">Vogue</a> about her long battle with drugs and said that being in the entertainment industry, one&#8217;s problems were often only &#8220;magnified and exacerbated.&#8221;
&#8220;I hadn&#8217;t slept. I was not okay,&#8221; Delevingne said of those photos. ”It&#8217;s heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point it was like, Okay, I don&#8217;t look well. You know, sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way those pictures were something to be grateful for.&#8221;
&#8220;In a way, a lot of people have looked at my childhood or my family and thought, she&#8217;s spoiled, there&#8217;s nepotism, she grew up extremely privileged, which I did, don&#8217;t get me wrong,&#8221; she added. &#8220;But life wasn&#8217;t all that easy for other reasons.&#8221;
&#8220;I was happy as a kid for sure, but I think when I grew up, I looked back and realized, that&#8217;s not normal,&#8221; the actress continued. &#8220;And then as a teenager, it just all came plummeting down. That&#8217;s also when I started drinking and partying. There was this need to escape and change my reality as I was hit with just huge questions: What am I doing here? Who am I trying to be?”
The supermodel said she started drinking and using drugs before she was even a preteen.
&#8220;This was the beginning of mental health issues and inadvertent self-harm,&#8221; Delevingne explained, sharing that at the age of 10 she was prescribed sleeping pills to deal with insomnia. Then at the age of 15, she suffered a breakdown, and was prescribed antidepressants to help her deal with that.
&#8220;There were so many times that I was encouraged to take this or be put on that,&#8221; the star shared. &#8220;[Now] I’m more of a naturalist, a purist in a sense, when it comes to medications.&#8221;
