I have released enough documentaries over the years to recognize an emerging pattern in terms of how the Left will respond. There are really only two options: Either they&#8217;ll ignore my documentary entirely (which is how most of the media responded to &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/am-i-racist?elementPosition=0&amp;row=13&amp;rowHeadline=Comedy+%26+Entertainment&amp;rowType=Portrait+Show+Carousel">Am I Racist?,</a>&#8221; even though it was the top documentary of the decade). Or, in the alternative, they&#8217;ll publish extremely low-effort, highly dishonest articles, where they review some imaginary version of my documentary, put words into my mouth, and take every important scene out of context.
That was the case with &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/what-is-a-woman?elementPosition=1&amp;row=13&amp;rowHeadline=Comedy+%26+Entertainment&amp;rowType=Portrait+Show+Carousel">What is a Woman?</a>,&#8221; when outlet after outlet accused me of being a &#8220;transphobe&#8221; who engaged in &#8220;hate speech&#8221; — even though 99% of the movie involved me asking basic, straightforward questions to self-described experts in gender ideology. And the other 1% was me asking why those experts were running away from me instead of answering my simple and straightforward questions.
So based on these experiences, when I released the first episode of my newest series at the Daily Wire, which is called &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/real-history-with-matt-walsh?elementPosition=2&amp;row=6&amp;rowHeadline=Featured&amp;rowType=Portrait+Show+Carousel">Real History</a>,&#8221; I was expecting either a total media blackout, or a flood of desperate hit pieces. After all, &#8220;Real History&#8221; is a direct challenge to some of the most important tenets of modern Leftism. 
But interestingly enough, &#8220;Real History&#8221; has not been met with a total media blackout. Nor has it been bombarded with a series of incredibly dumb and lazy smears. Instead, aside from a small number of YouTube videos from historians — which have mostly been positive, and very thorough — the only mainstream response to &#8220;Real History&#8221; has come from The Atlantic magazine, which considers itself to be the bastion of Left-wing intellectual thought.

And right away, that got my attention. It&#8217;s not that The Atlantic is a trustworthy outlet. It&#8217;s obviously not. In fact, they&#8217;ve created numerous high-level hoaxes in just the past couple of years, solely to influence elections. But at the same time, if The Atlantic — and only The Atlantic — is coming after you, then it means you&#8217;ve done something unique. It means that you&#8217;ve rattled the people who, in elite circles of the Democrat Party, are taken very seriously. Now, why might &#8220;Real History&#8221; have done that?
To answer that question, let&#8217;s see what <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/02/slavery-matt-walsh-1619-project/685982/">The Atlantic says</a>, specifically.
<blockquote>Matt Walsh would like you to know you’ve been lied to. Last month, the right-wing provocateur appeared on Megyn Kelly’s show to discuss his new video series, Real History With Matt Walsh. &#8230; In Walsh’s account, the left believes that “America was built on slavery, and it has no right to exist, and every white American carries, somehow, that legacy, that guilt in their blood”; therefore progressives feel they have the “moral justification to just do whatever they want” to white people. Walsh intends to stop this. So in Real History, he relentlessly downplays the brutality of slavery in the United States. Sanitizing slavery has become a core objective of the reactionary right under Donald Trump—a malignant response to the progressive left’s oversimplification of American history for their own present-day ends. But the truest understanding of slavery doesn’t serve any political faction. Rather, it acknowledges the horrors of racial oppression while still allowing us to see beyond them. &#8230; Walsh also notes that the descendants of Africans trafficked to what became the United States are now in better socioeconomic shape than those whose ancestors remained in the Old World or were transported to Latin America or the Caribbean. He draws an odious conclusion from this—American slavery wasn’t that bad—yet the point is not entirely incorrect. Other far more serious thinkers have made versions of it too.</blockquote>
There&#8217;s the sneering that you might expect from The Atlantic. They want you to know that there are &#8220;far more serious thinkers&#8221; than I am. But for all their preening and all their arrogance, it&#8217;s clear that the author of this piece, Thomas Chatterton Williams, has not even watched <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/rhs-260118?elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+Show+Episodes+Carousel">Episode 1,</a> &#8220;The Real History of Slavery.&#8221; He couldn&#8217;t be bothered to spend the hour to actually watch the show.
And I can make that claim with confidence, because there is absolutely nothing in the episode — or any episode of the series — that &#8220;relentlessly downplays the brutality of slavery in the United States.&#8221; Instead, the episode is a roughly hour-long look at what slavery entailed, all over the world. And yes, as a matter of historical fact, Africans and the Barbary Pirates and the Ottomans generally treated their slaves far, far worse than Americans and American colonists. Americans weren&#8217;t known for floating canoes in the blood of their slaves, for example. Nor were Americans known for sailing thousands of miles away in order to snatch men, women and children from their homes, throw them onto boats, and sexually assault them. That&#8217;s not &#8220;downplaying&#8221; anything. It&#8217;s the truth. And &#8220;serious thinkers&#8221; — to use The Atlantic&#8217;s terminology — care about the truth, above all else.
But The Atlantic doesn&#8217;t care about the truth. That&#8217;s why, in 2019, they published an article <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/12/historians-clash-1619-project/604093/">entitled</a>, &#8220;The Fight Over the 1619 Project Is Not About the Facts.&#8221;
What&#8217;s remarkable about this headline is that, indeed, the fight over the 1619 Project was about the facts. All of the history was completely wrong — including their claim that Americans fought the Revolutionary War to preserve slavery. But The Atlantic ran cover for the 1619 Project at the time, because it served the narrative of the Democrat Party. It advanced racial grievances, which they saw — correctly, for a time — as a pathway to power.
The point of &#8220;Real History,&#8221; on the other hand, is not to advance the interests of the &#8220;MAGA movement,&#8221; or anyone else. The point is to communicate historically accurate information that&#8217;s deliberately hidden from us, at every stage in our lives. Schools don&#8217;t talk about it. The media doesn&#8217;t talk about it. Movies don&#8217;t talk about it. Telling the truth is not &#8220;downplaying&#8221; anything. By contrast, it&#8217;s the fake intellectuals in the Left, people like the writers at The Atlantic, who have been downplaying the reality of the African and Ottoman slave trades for generations.

But according to The Atlantic, so-called &#8220;MAGA revisionists,&#8221; along with the Trump administration, are the problem here. 
So let&#8217;s read on from <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/02/slavery-matt-walsh-1619-project/685982/">their review</a> of &#8220;Real History.&#8221;
<blockquote>Back in March, [Trump] strong-armed a host of institutions by issuing an executive order called “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” which directs federally funded museums, monuments, and parks to remove materials that promote “corrosive ideology.” Last month, the park service obliged, eliminating an outdoor exhibit at Independence National Historical Park, in Philadelphia, where George Washington’s house once stood. The exhibit honored nine slaves who toiled at the residence &#8230; Trump and his allies seem unwilling to tolerate virtually any acknowledgment that America subjugated Black people. Rather than making a dispassionate case against the idea that the country was founded to enslave Africans, MAGA is taking down plaques commemorating basic facts, such as Washington’s slaveholding. In Real History, Walsh turns the clock back further still.</blockquote>
Notice the sleight of hand here. 
They&#8217;re strongly implying that the Trump administration ordered the park service to remove an exhibit about the fact that George Washington owned slaves. But that&#8217;s actually not true. If you read the Executive Order, it orders the parks service to remove anything promoting a &#8220;corrosive ideology&#8221; that demonizes Americans. And as The Washington Post reported, the parks service interpreted that Executive Order as broadly as possible. It&#8217;s a form of &#8220;malicious compliance.&#8221; 
The Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2025/09/15/national-parks-slavery-information-removal/">reported:</a>
<blockquote>the removals were in line with President Donald Trump’s March executive order directing the Interior Department to eliminate information that reflects a “corrosive ideology” that disparages historic Americans. National Park Service officials are broadly interpreting that directive to apply to information on racism, sexism, slavery, gay rights or persecution of Indigenous people.</blockquote>
See how that works?
The Trump administration issues an order, telling agencies to stop advancing an anti-white, anti-American agenda. Democrats then remove displays of slavery. And then Democrats say, &#8220;Hey, you made us remove displays of slavery!&#8221;
And by the way, it&#8217;s especially ironic that they lump &#8220;Real History&#8221; in with this. Again, if this guy had watched the show — which he clearly hasn&#8217;t — he&#8217;d know that we talk, at some length, about Washington&#8217;s slaves. And in particular, we talk about his white indentured servants, who ran away around the time of the start of the Revolutionary War. Washington put out advertisements, seeking the return of these white runaways. And there were many more white runaways than black runaways at Washington&#8217;s estate. But no one at The Atlantic wants to talk about this, because it complicates their narrative that only blacks were victimized by slavery in America. So they hide the truth, and then they accuse us of being the liars.
What&#8217;s funny about all of this is that, back in 2019, The Atlantic put out an article stating that &#8220;reparations&#8221; could mean &#8220;telling the truth&#8221; about uncomfortable historical facts. So in that sense, you&#8217;d think they&#8217;d be happy about Real History. You&#8217;d think they&#8217;d consider it a form of reparations. Apparently not. 
In reality, The Atlantic, like so many other bastions of Left-wing &#8220;intellectualism,&#8221; is collapsing in on itself. Their ideology is incoherent. They have no idea what they stand for, or how to construct even the most basic argument about anything they believe in.
This is a big, big problem for the Left in general.

An elderly white woman broke down in tears after she was put in chains at a black history museum in Louisville, as a part of an apparent demonstration of what blacks endured under slavery in America.
Lamont Collins, the founder of the Roots 101 African-American Museum, greeted the woman, saying, “Welcome to America.” Then he locked the heavy chains on her wrists with a click. “Tell me what you’re thinking,” he urged.
“Just so much,” the woman wept.
Collins then pointed to a box of Kleenex she could use.

My grandma lived at 2821 West Kentucky Street. I’ve read so many books. And now I belong to a church that’s primarily African-American, and I wouldn’t be anywhere else.”
“Beautiful,” Collins responded. “Thank you.”

In fact, Mr. Collins had chains and shackles that were over 400 years old that he actually bound to my wrists. When he put them on me, I cried like a baby. The pain of every person who had been kept in those shackles rushed through me so strongly that my soul recognized each soul who had touched them. I have no doubt that my soul made an agreement with each soul who had touched those chains never to forget and never to stop demanding justice.

Right now, the West is in its ascendancy, not in its decline.
Over the weekend, President Trump championed a peace deal that is now cut between Congo and Rwanda, brokered by the White House to stop the bloodshed in Congo, where a militia allegedly backed by Rwanda occupies huge areas of land.
President Trump explained that he is brokering peace throughout the world, saying, “This is a tremendous breakthrough. In a few short months, we&#8217;ve now achieved peace between India and Pakistan, Israel and Iran, and the DRC and Rwanda. And a couple of others also, Serbia was getting ready to go to war with a group I won&#8217;t even mention because it didn&#8217;t happen. We were able to stop it.”
He&#8217;s right about that. He also continues to maintain his strength in the face of an Iran that has pledged further nuclear development. He said to Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei, listen, you keep lying and saying that you won? You didn&#8217;t. You got your ass kicked.
“I&#8217;m putting out a little statement,” <a href="https://x.com/breeadail/status/1938650917127233987">he stated</a>. “I&#8217;m going to respond to the Ayatollah’s statement yesterday that ‘We won the war.’ Won the war? And I said, ‘Look, you&#8217;re a man of great faith, a man who&#8217;s highly respected in his country. You have to tell the truth, you got beat to hell … It would be great if they (Iran) didn&#8217;t have that hate. But the last thing they&#8217;re thinking about is nuclear weapons right now.”
“Would you consider bombing the country again?” <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvgenq599kwo">he was asked</a>. “Sure. Without question. Absolutely. That would be unbelievable,” he answered. “But, you know, our incredible fliers; I call them the shots. These guys are unbelievable. Think. From 52,000 feet, they hit the equivalent of a refrigerator door. They actually hit it right in the center, so it&#8217;s much smaller than that.”
But at a time when the West should be resurgent and on the upswing, instead you have America&#8217;s major cities: New York City, L.A., and Chicago, being run by full-scale left-wing nutcases who are deeply ensconced with hatred for their own civilization. The same thing has happened in London in the UK. It&#8217;s been happening in France as well.
It&#8217;s a serious threat to the West. And the biggest threat to the West is not external at this point.
The biggest threat to the West is internal: the Red-Green Alliance, the communists/socialists, and the Hamasniks coming together in hatred of their own civilization.

All of this ties into July 4. It&#8217;s going to be great. I hope you&#8217;re going to have a wonderful Independence Day, celebrating the foundation of the greatest country in the history of the world, but we should talk about a myth that has been purveyed about July 4 and about the United States in general.
This, of course, is the 1619 myth that “America was founded on slavery and that the Revolutionary War was fought for the preservation of slavery.”
There are many lies that are told about our civilization, particularly about the foundation of our civilization, in order to somehow claim that our civilization should be torn down.
If you were to poll the morons of Glastonbury in the UK who chanted “Death to the IDF” and mocked white Britons by chanting “I hear you want your country back. Well, shut the f*** up,” or the Democratic primary voters for Zohran Mamdani in New York about what they think of the United States, they would surely agree with the myth that America was founded on slavery.
It&#8217;s not true.
A huge number of the Founders overtly opposed slavery in principle. Even those who held slaves themselves did not provide significant defenses of slavery. That included George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Washington said, “There&#8217;s not a man living who wishes more sincerely than I do to see a plan adopted for its abolition.” Thomas Jefferson&#8217;s original draft of the Declaration of Independence called the slave trade an “execrable commerce” and “an affront against human nature itself.” John Jay said, “It is much to be wished that slavery may be abolished, to contend for our own liberty, and to deny that blessing to others involves an inconsistency not to be excused.” Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, John Adams, and Alexander Hamilton spoke against slavery as well.
Why was slavery included in the Constitution of the United States originally? Because there were still slave-holding states in the United States. Many of the northern states were not slave holding states, but the southern states were. And the question was, could you get together a coalition to defeat the British, or could you not?
This was not a fight on behalf of promoting slavery. Slavery remained legal in the British Empire until 1833. So this was not a fight in which one side was pro-slavery and one side was anti-slavery. Far from it. The leaders in America ideologically were not in favor of slavery. There was a practical on-the-ground consideration, which was that many of the southern states were reliant on slave labor. 
Again, that&#8217;s an evil not to be excused, but to claim that the Revolutionary War was about slavery is to be ignorant of history. In fact, as soon as the Revolution began, there were eight states that immediately came out and started abolishing slavery: Vermont, 1777. Pennsylvania, 1780. Massachusetts and New Hampshire, 1783. Rhode Island and Connecticut, 1784. New York, 1799. New Jersey 1804.

As the Claremont Institute&#8217;s Arthur Milikh once <a href="https://www.heritage.org/american-history/commentary/1776-not-1619">pointed out</a>:
<blockquote>The Founders laid the constitutional ground for abolishing slavery. One example is <a href="https://www.heritage.org/constitution/#!/articles/1/essays/60/slave-trade">Article I, Section 9, Clause 1</a>, which states that Congress could prohibit importation of slaves starting in 1808. On the first day that this clause became operative, Congress passed, and President Thomas Jefferson signed, this prohibition into law. Congress took additional steps to restrict slavery. It passed the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, which outlawed slavery in the Northwest Territories. Seven years later, Congress made it illegal to build ships for the purpose of the slave trade.</blockquote>
It&#8217;s important to debunk some of these myths, because those myths become the basis for claiming that the West is uniquely evil. Slavery has indeed been an evil institution, but it has also been virtually universal. 
The question isn&#8217;t whether the Founding Fathers were hypocrites about slavery. Some were; some weren&#8217;t. The question truly is: Why did it take the West to end slavery?
In fact, slavery is still practiced in many of the areas that are favorites of the Glastonbury crowd. Many of the places that they are claiming are “havens of freedom,” that require “less of a heavy Western hand,” are places that are still practicing slavery.
A huge part of the Middle East still engages in slavery. Not Israel, but many of its opponents. That is the point.
July 4 spells a clarion call for human freedom, and it has been seen that way by right-minded people ever since.
This is why the very famous Frederick Douglass speech about what July 4 meant to the slave doesn&#8217;t say that July 4 is bad. It says that the problem with the 4th of July is that the principles that the Founding Fathers sought to instill had not yet been realized.
That is the right approach, a historically accurate and mature approach, instead of the leftist scumbag wing that simply suggests the West is uniquely evil when in reality the West is uniquely good.

Every year, millions of high school students across the country dream of attending America’s most selective colleges. In California, that goal may be harder to reach as pro-affirmative action lawmakers push for new ways to give certain groups a leg up in admissions.
As a high school junior in San Jose, I will be applying to college next year. Students like me are taking AP classes, building their profiles, and doing everything we’ve been told to help us get into the schools of our choice.
The system is far from perfect but the basic premise is that colleges will then, in good faith, try to weigh each applicant based on merit and context. No group receives an unearned advantage at the expense of others.
<a href="https://legiscan.com/CA/text/AB7/id/3029617">California Assembly Bill 7</a> (AB7) blows a hole in that idea.
The bill, which recently passed in the Assembly by a 54–17 vote, would allow California public universities to consider whether an applicant is “a descendant of a chattel enslaved person of American chattel slavery.” It’s part of <a href="https://blackcaucus.legislature.ca.gov/news/california-legislative-black-caucus-introduces-2024-reparations-legislative-package">a broader reparations push</a> and now headed to the state Senate.
The bill’s author, Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, says it’s not about race but historic harm. “For decades, universities gave preferential admission treatment to donors, and their family members, while others tied to legacies of harm were ignored and at times outright excluded,” Bryan <a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-universities-slavery-descendants-admissions-4b0e84c27b40725a9f7929b230a591ca">told the Associated Press</a>. 
He’s right about history. The legacy of slavery has shaped socioeconomic outcomes for Black Americans. But that doesn’t mean all descendants of slavery are disadvantaged — or that ancestry should now serve as some kind of admissions shortcut.
That distinction seems to be missing from the conversation. What we’re left with is a bill that awards preference based on ancestry.
This bill proposes an eligibility line drawn by lineage. To be clear, the text does not use the words “Black” or “African American” but rather delineates a specific historical category, “descendants of U.S. chattel slavery,” without using racial language. It’s designed to sidestep Proposition 209, which banned racial preferences in 1996, and the Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling in Students for Fair Admissions that struck down affirmative action nationwide.
Legal scholars describe such policies as “race proxies”: mechanisms that dodge explicit racial language but preserve race as the decisive factor in practice. Courts have repeatedly scrutinized such end-runs: in Parents Involved v. Seattle, <a href="https://www.oyez.org/cases/2006/05-908">the Supreme Court warned</a> against policies that look constructive but act as racial stand-ins.
The legal system has long treated ancestral classifications with the same suspicion as racial ones. In Hirabayashi v. United States, the 1943 case on Japanese-American internment, <a href="https://edge.sagepub.com/epsteinpowers11e/student-resources/chapter-5-interbranch-interactions/hirabayashi-v-united-states">the Court held</a> that “distinctions between citizens solely because of their ancestry are by their very nature odious to a free people whose institutions are founded upon the doctrine of equality.” Moreover, the express text of Proposition 209 includes “ethnicity” in its enumeration of protected categories as well as race.
The bill defines a “descendant of slavery” as someone whose ancestors were enslaved specifically in the United States, meaning it would exclude many Black students whose families came from Africa or the Caribbean after abolition. Meanwhile, someone who identifies as white but has traced a distant enslaved ancestry through DNA testing could, in theory, qualify. And we know these terms circle a ridiculously arbitrary line. African American activist Angela Davis <a href="https://www.today.com/popculture/tv/angela-davis-finding-your-roots-mayflower-ancestors-rcna71700">went on PBS’s</a> ancestry show Finding Your Roots only to find out she’s a descendent from Mayflower colonists. She was mortified.
But even if Bryan turns out to be right on the legal question, does the technical distinction between race and ancestry suddenly make it fair to those it excludes?
No. Ancestry-based preferences would still have effectively all the same downsides as other affirmative action policies: lack of individual assessment, blunt group categorization, and fairness concerns for everyone else. As Chief Justice John Roberts <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/22pdf/20-1199_hgdj.pdf">wrote in the SFFA majority opinion</a>: “College admissions are zero-sum. A benefit provided to some applicants but not to others necessarily advantages the former group at the expense of the latter.”
Even if preference is framed as reparative, someone else is paying the price.
There are better options to help marginalized students. California lawmakers could index Cal Grants to local cost of living. They could strengthen the UC/CSU admission guarantees for top students at public high schools. They could improve outreach around community college transfer guarantees or pass bills like <a href="https://www.padilla.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/BASIC-Act-One-Pager.pdf">the BASIC Act</a>, which would give colleges resources to help students cover food, housing, and health care.
This bill, by contrast, like other affirmative action-adjacent legislation before it, assumes inherited identity stands in for “lived struggle.” It doesn’t.
We don’t need another lecture on systemic inequality. We see the results of it in classmates of all backgrounds who stop aiming high because they don’t think college is for them, or can’t imagine paying for it.
The California Senate should reject this bill and pursue fairer solutions, rather than advancing a measure the Supreme Court is likely to strike down.

A Democrat congresswoman has revived an effort to provide reparations payments to black Americans for slavery, introducing legislation that would cost trillions of dollars.
Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/race-politics/5302622-democrats-reintroduce-reparations-resolution/">reintroduced</a> the Reparations Now resolution, which was first introduced by former Rep. Cori Bush in 2023.
Lee says that the funds are owed to black Americans. “Black folks are owed more than thoughts and prayers. We’re owed repair, we’re owed restitution, and we’re owed justice,” Lee said at a press conference as she announced the reintroduction of the bill. “We’re here to say that there’s no more waiting, no more watering down, no more putting justice on layaway.”
If enacted, the bill is estimated to cost a whopping <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/far-left-congresswoman-revives-ousted-squad-dems-reparations-push-black-americans">$14 trillion</a>. The gross domestic product of the entire United States in 2023, by comparison, was <a href="https://www.bea.gov/news/2024/gross-domestic-product-fourth-quarter-and-year-2023-second-estimate">just over</a> $27 trillion, while the federal government’s entire budget in that same year was <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy1829">$6.1 trillion</a>.
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), a member of the far-Left coalition of Democrats referred to as “the squad,” echoed Lee’s remarks and accused Trump’s policies of being “anti-blackness on steroids.”
“We will not back down in our pursuit of racial justice,” Pressley said. “The antidote to anti-Blackness is to be pro-Black, and we will do it unapologetically. The United States government owes us a debt, and we need reparations now.”
Cori Bush, who originally introduced the bill in 2023 before losing her reelection bid, joined the two at the press conference. “You cannot turn your back on the demand for reparations, because until there is repair, there will be no justice,” Bush said. “And where there is no justice, we will continue to fight. We’re not going anywhere.”
The legislation, which died after it was first introduced in 2023, has little chance of advancing in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

“Reparations based on race or historical grievances are not only unfair: they’re unconstitutional and divisive,” Babin said as he announced the legislation, which would strip federal funding from states and localities that pass reparations bills. “Our nation should focus on policies that promote economic opportunity for all, not government handouts based on ancestry.”

ABC News personality Sunny Hostin sparked a wave of backlash on Monday when she claimed that January 6th was among the worst moments in American history — and proceeded to compare it to &#8220;World War II, the Holocaust, and chattel slavery.&#8221;

“The View” host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sunny-hostin">Sunny Hostin</a> said she didn’t want to move on from what happened on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/january-6">January 6th, 2021</a>, and compared it to World War II, the Holocaust, and slavery.
During the <a href="https://x.com/theblaze/status/1876312352108564833">ABC talk show</a> on Monday, Hostin said the country needed to find “moral clarity” and said the blame for what happened on January 6th, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol needed to be placed at the feet of President-elect Donald Trump.

“We need to never forget,” Hostin continued. “Because past becomes prologue if you forget any race.”
The audience agreed and clapped along at the host’s comments and several of the people on the panel agreed as well.
Hostin’s cohost Sarah Haines <a href="https://x.com/TheView/status/1876335580226712046">suggested</a> that what happened on January 6th should be “commemorated every year” because watching those videos “shook” her to the core, suggesting that future generations won’t know about what happened four years ago unless people continue to make sure it is talked about.

“And hopefully, every year we will continue to show video of January 6, cause I won’t tell you how to feel, you just watch that video and you tell me what you see,” Haines said, without explaining further. 
On Sunday in a <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/01/05/president-biden-jan-6-democracy/">Washington Post</a> Op-Ed, President Joe Biden also urged Americans to not forget about what happened on January 6th four years ago, labeling it a day when “violent insurrectionists attacked the Capitol.”
“We should be proud that our democracy withstood this assault,” Biden wrote. “And we should be glad we will not see such a shameful attack again this year. But we should not forget. We must remember the wisdom of the adage that any nation that forgets its past is doomed to repeat it. We cannot accept a repeat of what occurred four years ago.&#8221;
He also wrote that the “unrelenting effort” that’s “underway to rewrite — even erase — the history of that day” must not succeed, adding that “we cannot allow the truth to be lost.”

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) sent a <a href="https://www.rubio.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/10.30.24-Rubio-Letter-to-FDA-DHS-re-Ban-on-Pharmaceuticals-from-Xinjiang.pdf">letter</a> to FDA Commissioner Robert Califf and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas demanding they guarantee that goods imported to the United States are not made with slave labor.
In 2021, Rubio introduced the <a href="https://www.rubio.senate.gov/rubio-merkley-uyghur-forced-labor-prevention-act-becomes-law/">Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act </a>(UFLPA), which was signed into law. The Act would “ensure that goods made with the slave labor of Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim ethnic groups in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and elsewhere in the People’s Republic of China do not enter the United States,” Rubio’s <a href="https://www.rubio.senate.gov/rubio-merkley-uyghur-forced-labor-prevention-act-becomes-law/">website</a> noted.
In the letter, Rubio noted “recent reports identifying two pharmaceutical producers based in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) that are permitted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to distribute their products in the U.S.,” adding, “This is in clear violation of current law which prohibits imports from the region due to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) egregious human rights abuses, including genocide, forced abortions, and forced sterilizations.”

“The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act assures the American people that the products they purchase were made without slave labor,” Rubio wrote. “It is clear that the lack of oversight by the FDA has not made this true. The FDA and DHS have a responsibility to rectify this dangerous error and uphold the law. Therefore, I demand both departments and the Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force to immediately place Xinjiang Nuziline Bio-Pharmaceutical Co. and SEL Biochem Xinjiang Co. on the UFLPA Entity List. There have been a lot of moments in American politics when candidates realize they&#8217;re trailing badly in the polls, so they do something extreme in an effort to win some support. It usually doesn&#8217;t work out too well. Think of the &#8220;Dean Scream&#8221; back in 2004, which was supposed to rally the base after a tough loss in the Iowa caucuses. It ended up being played about 600 times on cable news until Dean dropped out of the race. Or if you want to go back further, think of George McGovern&#8217;s plan to shake up the race in 1972 by picking a totally unvetted running mate. That was exciting right up until it emerged that his running mate had received electro-shock therapy several times to treat his chronic mental illness. McGovern ended up losing 49 states. 
As we enter the homestretch of the 2024 presidential election, it&#8217;s clear that the Kamala Harris campaign now finds itself in a similar desperation mode. They&#8217;re trailing badly in pretty much every important poll and prediction market that matters. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz admit that they&#8217;re now the &#8220;underdogs&#8221; in the race. And so, inevitably, they&#8217;re feeling the pressure to do something unthinkable in a desperate attempt to win back votes. They have to throw out the playbook and try a new strategy.
In recent days, we&#8217;ve learned what this last-minute Hail Mary looks like. It means that Harris will actually go out in public and speak without a script. This clearly wasn&#8217;t the plan when she first entered the race. For the first month of her candidacy, Kamala Harris was completely shut off from the media. It was one of the most surreal periods in modern presidential politics. We had a presidential nominee who wouldn&#8217;t talk to any journalists at all — even journalists who are friendly to her campaign. 
But now Harris has no choice. She&#8217;s facing a blowout loss. So, now she has an interview with Fox News planned for tonight. She&#8217;s also participating in &#8220;radio town halls&#8221; with hosts like &#8220;Charlamagne Tha God.&#8221;
Unfortunately for Harris, already, this strategy isn&#8217;t going well. Like so many other Hail Mary&#8217;s in presidential politics, it&#8217;s backfiring. And it&#8217;s backfiring because every single time Harris opens her mouth, it becomes very clear why her campaign was hiding her away for so long. 
Let&#8217;s start with one of the questions asked on &#8220;Charlamagne tha God&#8217;s&#8221; show, because the question raises a bunch of its own issues. It concerns taxpayer-funded reparations for black people. Watch:

The first thing he says is, &#8220;We all know that America became great on the backs of free black labor.&#8221; So, I guess we&#8217;re pretending that slaves didn&#8217;t cost anything, for starters. That&#8217;s being conflated here with the idea that &#8220;black people weren&#8217;t paid.&#8221; That might seem like an irrelevant distinction but actually, it matters quite a bit in relation to the argument he&#8217;s making. As a factual matter, slavery involved massive investments that ultimately slowed the progress of this country dramatically. It turned out to be a much worse investment than the alternative.
A professor at Brown University named David Meyer has <a href="https://fee.org/articles/no-slavery-did-not-make-america-rich/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that, in the South prior to the Civil War, “investments were heavily concentrated in slaves,&#8221; relative to the North. And that led to the South&#8217;s failure to, “to build a deep and broad industrial infrastructure.&#8221; That includes services like railroads and schools. Once slavery was abolished, that infrastructure is what led to this country&#8217;s success in the generations following the Civil War. We became the top economy in the entire world once we jettisoned slavery.
What didn&#8217;t lead to this country&#8217;s success — before or during the civil war — was slavery. The majority of slaves were involved in growing or picking cotton. But as the Foundation for Economic Education has <a href="https://fee.org/articles/no-slavery-did-not-make-america-rich/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, cotton didn&#8217;t account for a big portion of the overall U.S. economy. Economic historians, &#8220;have observed that although cotton exports comprised a tremendous share of total exports prior to the Civil War, they accounted for only around 5 percent of the nation’s overall gross domestic product, an important contribution but not the backbone of American economic development.&#8221;

So, if you&#8217;re saying that slavery was instrumental to this country&#8217;s success, you&#8217;re vastly overstating the case. And it&#8217;s an argument that applies to many other countries far more credibly than it applies to ours. Africa was the last continent to officially abolish slavery, and that didn&#8217;t happen until the 1980s. So, why exactly is this America&#8217;s burden to bear? Why are we uniquely responsible for slavery? And why would we want to stoke the kind of generational race hatred that&#8217;s led to the murders of white farmers in places like South Africa?
And for that matter, when is Kamala Harris going to pay her reparations? The Washington Free Beacon has reported that Harris was the &#8220;descendant of an Irishman who owned a slave plantation in Jamaica.&#8221; So, why hasn&#8217;t she pulled a Robin DiAngelo and opened her purse to offer black Americans some of her own money? She hasn&#8217;t even handed over a single dollar as far as I can tell, much less 20 dollars. It&#8217;s an outrage.
But it&#8217;s not one that Harris has ever addressed. Maybe she&#8217;ll explain her reasoning in my next movie. 
Instead, in this &#8220;radio town hall,&#8221; Harris predictably chose to focus on the &#8220;systemic&#8221; ideal of reparations. And here&#8217;s her plan in that regard:

She starts rambling again about growing up in a middle-class family or whatever, even though she didn&#8217;t actually grow up in a middle-class family, and even though (as always) it&#8217;s completely irrelevant to what she&#8217;s talking about. But already — just from this short, 30-second answer — it&#8217;s clear that Harris herself doesn&#8217;t even know what she&#8217;s saying. In response to that question about reparations, here&#8217;s what she just said: &#8220;It has to be studied. I&#8217;ve been very clear about that position.&#8221;
But she hasn&#8217;t been &#8220;very clear&#8221; about that position. In fact you can find multiple clips of Harris stating that she supports reparations. She doesn&#8217;t support a &#8220;study&#8221; of reparations, she actually thinks they should be paid out, in some form. Watch:

So, this is, once again, a complete retreat from what Kamala Harris previously claimed to believe. We can add it to the list of policies that she supported back in California, but disavows now. That&#8217;s a list that includes decriminalizing illegal immigration, providing free healthcare to illegals, abolishing private health insurance, banning gas-powered cars, banning fracking, confiscating guns, and so on. Now &#8220;taxpayer-funded reparations&#8221; are on the chopping block, at least temporarily. Now Harris says that reparations must be &#8220;studied.&#8221;

But that&#8217;s already happened too. And it happened in Harris&#8217; home state of California, as I <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-reparations-grift-is-finally-collapsing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discussed</a> earlier this year, all the way back in February. California established a &#8220;reparations task force.&#8221; That task force suggested that it would be a good idea to pay more than a million dollars to every descendant of a slave — which, altogether, would cost something like a trillion dollars. And then a bunch of lawmakers decided to reel that back in. They suggested that &#8220;reparations&#8221; shouldn&#8217;t consist of cash payments after all, after Gavin Newsom pointed out that the state is broke and doesn&#8217;t have the ability to pay anything. This was a whole conversation that lasted for years, in Harris&#8217; home state. But apparently she&#8217;s not aware of this conversation. She wants to keep having it, again and again, for the rest of time.
This is a dodge that&#8217;s meant to hide the fact that the Biden-Harris administration has already announced massive race-based reparations plans, and continues to do so. They started with billions of dollars in race-based aid to black farmers. They continued with various affirmative action programs in the government — which, as I <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/this-shockingly-easy-test-has-been-deemed-racist-heres-why" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outlined</a> last week, now involves filing a lawsuit against any fire department or police department that declines to hire black people, regardless of how unqualified they are. And just the other day, Kamala Harris herself personally announced an openly racist policy to send money directly to black people, solely because they&#8217;re black. Here are the key bullet points: &#8220;Provide 1 million loans that are fully forgivable up to $20k for Black entrepreneurs and others to start a business. &#8230; Protect cryptocurrency investments so Black men who make them know their money is safe. &#8230;. Legalize recreational marijuana and create opportunities for Black Americans to succeed in this new industry.&#8221;
So, first of all, a loan that&#8217;s &#8220;fully forgivable&#8221; isn&#8217;t actually a loan. It&#8217;s a cash payout. The government is never going to see any of that money back. But even if this were just a loan, it&#8217;d still be a completely unconstitutional, overtly anti-white policy, to the point that it&#8217;s insane that any presidential candidate would ever put this in writing. This is a stage of desperation that has no parallel in American politics. Kamala Harris&#8217; campaign is now so underwater among black voters that they&#8217;re straight-up offering to hand them cash, and get them some weed.
Oh, and they&#8217;re going to &#8220;protect cryptocurrency investments so black men know their money is safe.&#8221; You can read that 20 times, and still have no idea what they&#8217;re talking about. Does Bitcoin work differently for black people? And why wouldn&#8217;t we want to make sure that everyone — not just black people — feel that their crypto is &#8220;safe&#8221;? No one knows. Kamala Harris doesn&#8217;t know. Imagine asking her to explain what that line means. She probably has no idea someone wrote that and posted it to her account.
What&#8217;s underlying all of these proposals isn&#8217;t just anti-white racism, although that&#8217;s a big part of it. This is also about Kamala Harris&#8217; deep and abiding disdain for America and its history. This alone makes her unqualified for the position she&#8217;s seeking. It&#8217;s the same reason she posted on social media the other day about &#8220;Indigenous People&#8217;s Day,&#8221; instead of Columbus Day. She&#8217;s previously gone on the record saying Columbus Day should no longer exist:

We&#8217;re at a point in this country where the political Left and Right celebrate different national holidays. And we&#8217;re in this position because of politicians like Kamala Harris, who have nothing to offer. So, in the absence of any substance, she&#8217;s trying to destroy anything Americans have in common. She&#8217;s trying to revise America&#8217;s history, which is the go-to move for communist dictators throughout the ages. And for good measure, she&#8217;s looting the treasury for the benefit of her preferred racial groups. 
Fortunately for the Trump campaign, Kamala Harris isn&#8217;t capable of hiding any of this. Every time she sits down for an interview, Kamala Harris makes it very clear she doesn&#8217;t know anything. She also doesn&#8217;t have any idea what she&#8217;s saying. She wants to simultaneously signal that she&#8217;s backing off reparations, even as she proposes explicit payments to Americans on the basis of their skin color. This is the kind of incoherence that defines the last days of a desperate campaign. And it&#8217;s a sign that Kamala Harris&#8217; campaign — like so many other transparent train wrecks in modern politics — is on a path to a very public implosion in just a couple of weeks.

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a formal apology on Thursday for the state&#8217;s &#8220;role&#8221; in slavery just one day after the governor vetoed two reparations bills.
Assembly Bill 3089, which Newsom signed, mandated that the state offer a formal apology along with memorializing the apology in a plaque on the state Capitol, the Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-09-26/newsom-signs-formal-apology-for-california-role-in-slavery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Slavery was never legal in California after it became a state in 1850, but some argue that the state&#8217;s laws allowed slave owners to keep slaves even after the practice was outlawed in California&#8217;s 1849 Constitution.
“The State of California accepts responsibility for the role we played in promoting, facilitating, and permitting the institution of slavery, as well as its enduring legacy of persistent racial disparities,” Newsom said in a statement. “Building on decades of work, California is now taking another important step forward in recognizing the grave injustices of the past — and making amends for the harms caused.”
Democrat Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer added, “Healing can only begin with an apology. The State of California acknowledges its past actions and is taking this bold step to correct them, recognizing its role in hindering the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness for Black individuals through racially motivated punitive laws.”
The apology, however, doesn&#8217;t take any steps toward reparations as Democrats in California take heat from reparations advocates for the lack of progress on the issue, the LA Times reported. California was the first state in the nation to appoint a reparations task force.
On Wednesday, Newsom vetoed two reparations bills, one of which would have allowed black Californians to reclaim or be compensated for property that was taken by the government through eminent domain decades ago, according to the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-reparations-eminent-domain-30e904077112f67690b402a7899120a8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associated Press</a>.

Newsom said that if he had signed the bill, it would not have gone into full effect because lawmakers previously blocked another piece of legislation to create an agency tasked with reviewing reparations claims.
&#8220;I thank the author for his commitment to redressing past racial injustices. However, this bill tasks a nonexistent state agency to carry out its various provisions and requirements, making it impossible to implement,&#8221; Newsom stated.
The second reparations bill vetoed by Newsom would have expanded California&#8217;s Medicaid program to include medically supported food and nutrition. The governor argued that the bill &#8220;would result in significant and ongoing general fund costs for the Medi-Cal program that are not included in the budget.&#8221;

The leftist New York City Council passed legislation on Thursday that pushes the largest city in the U.S. closer to a program that would hand out reparations to black residents.
The passage of two bills sponsored by Councilmembers Crystal Hudson and Farah Louis means NYC taxpayers will now fund a &#8220;Truth, Healing and Reconciliation Commission&#8221; along with a reparations task force, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/nyc-council-passes-slavery-reparations-legislation-yield-material-solutions-from-us-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The legislation will also require information signs to be posted at the site of New York City&#8217;s &#8220;first slave market,&#8221; according to a <a href="https://council.nyc.gov/press/2024/09/12/2692/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press release</a> from the city council.
&#8220;The legacy of slavery and systemic racism has impacted all facets of our society today, and it’s important that our city recognizes and takes steps to redress these longstanding harms,” NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams said. &#8220;By creating new processes to fully examine the present-day impacts of injustices inflicted on Black New Yorkers and communities, we are advancing necessary efforts to consider potential remedies that can lead to healing and reconciliation.&#8221;
Hudson, who sponsored one of the bills, said the passage of her legislation is a major step in her &#8220;Black Agenda for New York City.&#8221; She added that &#8220;it is [her] hope that as the nation’s largest city––with the biggest municipal budget––our truth, healing, and reconciliation process will work; it will identify racist, anti-Black policies at the foundation of our city’s institutions, and it will yield material solutions to address these foundational cracks.&#8221;

Louis, whose bill focused on starting a reparations task force, said, &#8220;Throughout my tenure in the Council, we have heard countless testimonies and conducted numerous hearings revealing the ongoing impacts of historical injustices. Black women, in particular, continue to be disadvantaged in both public and private sectors, facing systemic inequities that hinder their progress and well-being. Addressing these compounded injustices is essential to forming a more just municipality and society.&#8221;
Republican City Council Minority Leader Joseph Borelli blasted the legislation, telling <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/11/us-news/nyc-council-expected-to-back-taskforce-to-study-reparations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the New York Post</a> that he would move out of the city before paying reparations.
&#8220;If they can introduce me to one New Yorker who owned a slave I’d be happy to consider it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;But until then, I am not paying a dime as a reparation for a harm I did not cause, nor condone, nor once participated in.&#8221;
Numerous cities — and the states of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-york-governor-kathy-hochul-signs-bill-creating-task-force-to-consider-race-based-reparations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York</a> and <a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-reparations-budget-black-25a4e549c64fafde3f71f77c201b3030" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> — have created reparations task forces in the wake of George Floyd&#8217;s death and the protests and riots in the summer of 2020. Many of the task forces have failed to yield any significant results, and two members of Detroit&#8217;s reparations task force <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/members-resign-from-detroits-reparations-task-force-over-lack-of-progress-no-broad-strategic-vision" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stepped down</a> last year after expressing frustration over the lack of &#8220;progress.&#8221;
Even though slavery was never legal in California, the state&#8217;s exploration into slavery reparations has seen the most success, with Gov. Gavin Newsom signing a state budget in July that included <a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-reparations-budget-black-25a4e549c64fafde3f71f77c201b3030" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$12 million</a> for reparations legislation.
Vice President Kamala Harris has also <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/harris-now-mum-reparations-she-signaled-support-2020-white-house-run" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expressed her support</a> for reparations, saying in 2019, &#8220;I think there has to be some form of reparations, and we could discuss what that is, but look, we’re looking at more than 200 years of slavery. We’re looking at almost 100 years of Jim Crow.&#8221;
She also said as a candidate in 2019 that if elected president, she would sign a bill that would provide reparations to the descendants of African slaves. The Harris campaign has not said if the Democratic nominee still supports that position.
