&#8220;Watched &#8216;Shut In&#8217; during the live stream premiere on YouTube. I was very impressed with the Hollywood quality storytelling and cinematography, as well as the cast. To be honest, I was expecting an overtly religious movie (especially once we got to the fist scene with the crucifix in Bible) that focused more on pushing a religious narrative like a Kevin Sorbo film. Boy was I presently surprised, replace the Bible with any book and ignore the crucifix and there are no religious overtones. All in all &#8216;Shut In&#8217; was a fun and thrilling movie from the daily wire, and based off of this movie, I&#8217;m looking forward to the future of the alternative to Hollywood,&#8221; another wrote.

Popular podcaster and broadcasting veteran Megyn Kelly <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/bidens-covid-gaslighting-anti-science-masking-and/id1532976305?i=1000550601527">said</a> on her eponymous show that she really enjoyed the film as a “good thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat.” She particularly highlighted the quality of the performances, calling the acting “amazing” and “crazy good.”
Kelly finished her review by saying, “This is why everybody out there has got to support The Daily Wire in this effort … because there needs to be somebody who will make more conservative-leaning films and hire more conservative-leaning actors, which right now is a death knell to your career.” She added, “We always talk about creating new lanes, and this is one.”
But while Kelly is known for her openness to conservative entertainment, she’s hardly the only media figure lauding the film. The more left-leaning <a href="https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/02/09/what-to-watch-steve-soderberghs-latest-is-a-hitchcockian-thriller/">San Jose Mercury News</a> also praised “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” as a “lean, efficient and often vicious horror/revenge flick that’ll suck you in no matter your political stripe.”

Like The San Jose Mercury News, sports outlet <a href="https://www.outkick.com/daily-wire-shut-in-review/">Outkick</a> points out that while the movie champions classic Western civilization values like self-reliance and religious faith, it’s not political and, unlike the current Hollywood trend, doesn’t push any overt agendas.
“The film is more traditional than political,” reviewer Bobby Burack says. “The film’s simple format is a product of spending more time entertaining than preaching.”
At the same time, conservative Rotten Tomatoes critic <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/shut-in-review-daily-wire/">Christian Toto</a> points out that the film boasts themes that right-leaning audiences rarely see on screens big or small these days. “’<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>’ isn’t a Pure Flix presentation, but an element of faith is both unmistakable and shrewdly deployed,” he writes, later adding, “It’s a genre film, all right, but it never stops building up its flawed heroine, right through the last, satisfying image.”
Toto’s fellow Rotten Tomatoes critic, Matt Pejkovic of Matt’s Movie Reviews agrees, saying, “Caruso has crafted an intense thriller in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>. The stakes – high, palpable, ever present – are made more intimate by the performance of Vincent Gallo, who with his jittery wild-card persona and Charles Manson inspired look, makes for an intimidating figure.”
Pejkovic concluded by similarly pointing to subtext that so often goes unexplored in modern mainstream Hollywood. “The high quality of craft is matched by a depth found in its themes of sacrifice, temptation, and rebirth,” he says. “Caruso expertly weaves in subtle religious symbolism and allegory to further create a spine-chiller in which genre conventions blend with dramatic stakes to make for a strong, solid thriller.”

‘It Keeps You On The Edge Of Your Seat’: Megyn Kelly Joins Critics Praising ‘Shut In’

There are a few obvious comparisons to make between the classic 2002 thriller “Panic Room” and Daily Wire’s new film, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>.” Both movies deal with the claustrophobic paranoia of being trapped in small spaces. Both include violations by unwanted intruders into personal residences, which is especially terrifying because your home should be where you feel safest. Finally, both “Panic Room” and “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” highlight the strength of mothers willing to do anything to protect their children.
The one thing that makes “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” infinitely more terrifying is the sense of helplessness the main character Jessica (Rainey Qualley) feels being locked in a room with her children on the outside of the door. This terror is compounded by the fact that her junkie ex-boyfriend Rob (Jake Horowitz) and his pusher Sammy (Vincent Gallo), a child molester, are on the opposite side of the door. 
Jessica is a recovering drug addict who is planning to start a new life with her two young children before her ex arrives and throws everything into flux. The desperate mom must draw upon inner strength she doesn’t even know she has to escape her situation and keep her children safe.
“Panic Room,” meanwhile, also conveys a sense of urgency but in a different way. The mom in that movie, Meg Altman (Jodie Foster), hides from intruders inside a fortress-style panic room that’s built into a new home she purchased. She’s in there with her 11-year-old daughter, Meg, who is diabetic.
But here the two films also deviate in messaging. While “Panic Room” is a pretty standard psychological thriller, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” goes deeper and reveals itself as a redemption story about a mother fighting her own inner demons just as much as she’s battling the external threats to safety. 
As an added twist, Jessica’s ex drops a baggie of drugs into the pantry with her, which forces the mom to resist temptation and stay strong for her children. The film becomes about much more than just a woman escaping an abusive ex and a dangerous physical situation. It tackles a basic truth of humanity: that each of us are confronted with hard choices every day and must keep striving to stay on a path to goodness. 
A <a href="https://boundingintocomics.com/">review</a> from Bounding Into Comics writer Slade Hale said of the story, “[Jessica’s] relationship with little daughter Lainey is a big part of the overall story, with the latter serving as an anchor to keep Jessica in the here and now. By encouraging Lainey to step up and play the part of mommy for one terrifying day, Jessica is forced to look within, and remind herself of what it means to be a responsible parent.”
Both the heroine in “Panic Room” and Jessica in “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” must choose to put their children’s needs and safety above their own, which is a testament to being a good parent. However, “Shut In” ultimately takes viewers on an even deeper exploration into the mind of a woman who must rely on herself to survive, and ultimately to remind herself that she too is worth saving. 
“The message is a strong one, and the way Jessica faces down her own demons is a model for parents battling the specter of addiction, while trying to stay clean for the sake of their children,” Hale concludes.

‘Shut In’ Has Similar Elements To Classic Thriller ‘Panic Room,’ Except For One Big Difference

“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” lead Rainey Qualley isn’t a mom yet, she&#8217;s not a recovering meth addict, and she’s never been locked inside a pantry while fearing for the safety of her children. But despite the differences between her and the main character in Daily Wire’s new thriller, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>,” Qualley did reveal at least one thing she has in common with the character.
“I think something that is a common thread between me and Jessica, is that I think there&#8217;s a sense of vulnerability that we both share,” Qualley said during an interview on the set of “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>.” 
“I was drawn to the hopefulness in her character, even though she&#8217;s in recovery. She&#8217;s obviously had a lot of trauma and you know, everybody has trauma.”
Qualley has acting credits already including appearances in big-name projects such as the AMC series “Mad Men” and a cameo in the film “Ocean’s 8.” As the daughter of actress Andie MacDowell and sister of “Maid” star and Golden Globe nominee Margaret Qualley, it’s clear that performing is in her blood.
 This is Qualley’s first starring role. After putting her heart into portraying Jessica with such raw honesty, it’s unlikely to be her last.
“I think throughout the story, [Jessica] obviously deals with so much and she comes out stronger rather than being defeated by this horrible series of events,” Qualley said of the “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” heroine. 
“At the beginning of the story, she&#8217;s trying to escape the life that she has. But maybe she wouldn&#8217;t have been successful. And then through everything that happens in the story, you&#8217;re left feeling like she&#8217;s capable and she&#8217;s a much better mom. She&#8217;s a stronger person, having dealt with it.”
The film has been described as a “harrowing redemption journey” that goes to very dark places but ultimately ends with the victory of goodness. “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” was in danger of being edited into a watered-down version of what it became, with the grippingly evil character of Sammy (Vincent Gallo) becoming a more palatable, less controversial figure. Then the script was rescued from New Line Cinema and brought to The Daily Wire, where it became the gritty, raw testimony to the power of a mother’s love in the face of danger.
During the on-set interview, Qualley also discussed one of her favorite scenes in the movie, the moment her character Jessica must find courage she never knew she had. 
“The first major big scene that we did was with Jake (Horowitz) and Vincent and I, when they first come in and [Jake’s character Robby] throws me in [in the pantry] and that’s been one of my favorite scenes. It was pretty intense.”
The majority of the action of “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” took place inside the pantry, which presented its own kind of challenges. But it also helps audiences experience what Jessica is feeling, a feeling of helplessness and being trapped, plus wanting nothing more than to protect her children. Qualley harnesses that emotion perfectly and delivers a heart-stopping performance that takes hold and doesn’t let go until the stunning conclusion.

“Shut In” is a heart-pounding thriller that celebrates the powerful bonds of family and the lengths a mother will go to protect her children, no matter the cost.
For decades, cultural institutions have been dominated by the political left. With its new film division, The Daily Wire is hoping to provide an alternative to Hollywood with films free of hidden political agendas. “Shut In” is an example of the high-quality entertainment offerings that The Daily Wire plans to deliver to its members and part of the company’s plan to win back the culture from the left.
“If you want milquetoast polemics masquerading as entertainment, Daily Wire’s film venture isn’t for you. ’Shut In’ is a fiercely independent, powerful movie about motherhood and redemption. It’s riveting. It’s challenging. It’s highly entertaining. We cannot wait to release it next week,” said Daily Wire co-founder and co-CEO Jeremy Boreing.
“Shut In” was directed by DJ Caruso (“Disturbia”) and stars Rainey Qualley (“Ultrasound”) and Jake Horowitz (“The Vast of Night”). The film also marks the comeback of indie film icon Vincent Gallo (“Buffalo ’66&#8243;) in his first major role in nearly a decade. Over the years, Gallo, who plays one of the film’s lead villains, has been viciously attacked by liberal entertainment reporters for his conservative viewpoints, satire, and support for President Donald Trump.
Caruso <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/daily-wire-announces-feb-10-release-date-for-its-first-original-film-shut-in">has described</a> “Shut in” as a “brilliant script” and a “fiercely independent film.” 
In a previous interview, the director expressed gratitude for the artistic liberty The Daily Wire provided him while working on the project, saying, “I was given the creative freedom to craft a film that features a flawed, but graceful character that must fight addiction, and dire circumstances to find light in a very dark place.”
The riveting psycho-thriller centers on a young single mother who is held captive in her pantry by her violent ex and his meth-addict friend. The desperate mom has to plot and execute her escape to save her children before it&#8217;s too late. Though the movie contains Christian symbolism and strong values — such as self-reliance, second chances, and the right to self-defense — it is not a political movie.

Bonfire Legend’s Dallas Sonnier (“Bone Tomahawk”) first discovered the “Shut In” script on The Blacklist website, purchased the rights, and introduced writer Melanie Toast to her agents at UTA. The project went on to be set up at New Line Cinema, and even got as far as starting pre-production with Jason Bateman as the director. However, the project fell apart, and after the option period ended, Sonnier chose to take the project out of New Line and over to The Daily Wire. 
Boreing and Daily Wire co-founders Ben Shapiro and Caleb Robinson serve as executive producers on the film. This is The Daily Wire’s first original feature-length film after announcing it was breaking into entertainment with the acquisition of Kyle Rankin’s “Run Hide Fight” from Bonfire Legend. That movie project was just the beginning of The Daily Wire building their entertainment division. 
&#8220;When people hear that a conservative media company has entered the film business, their initial reaction is to think we&#8217;re making ‘Hillary&#8217;s Hard Drive Part III,&#8217; but that&#8217;s not the case. Meanwhile, Shapiro <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/shapiro-why-the-daily-wires-getting-into-the-entertainment-business">explained</a> conservatives must begin producing their own content to combat Hollywood’s attempts to “undermine the very values that have made this country exceptional.” Daily Wire is leading the charge by spearheading projects beginning with &#8220;Run, Hide, Fight&#8221; and continuing with &#8220;Shut In.&#8221; These are not second-rate films with saccharine, watered-down messaging and B-list actors. They are real Hollywood productions with the most talented entertainment professionals in the business. This is how you change the culture.
Besides films, Daily Wire is expanding their podcast coverage to include the new program &#8220;Truth Yeller&#8221; hosted by legendary comedian Adam Carolla. Hollywood hates him, so Daily Wire signed him. Same goes for former Disney star Gina Carano, who got canceled and then fired from &#8220;The Mandalorian&#8221; for stating opinions that go against the mainstream. Carano is now working on a major project with Daily Wire that fully celebrates her talents. More details will be shared very soon on that front.

Don’t Miss The Premiere Of Daily Wire’s Thriller ‘Shut In’ Coming Soon

You can’t have a redemption story without going to some dark places, and though The Daily Wire’s first original production, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>,” takes viewers on a journey through the hell of drug-addiction and spousal abuse, its ultimate end is one of resilience and hope.
Too often, films involving faith are centered on inauthentic characters, with sweet, inoffensive flaws, rather like a Hallmark movie. As a mom of two young daughters, I can appreciate some Hallmark binge time, but such stories rarely offer much spiritual depth. There’s little to be saved from there. The salvation is shallow because the sin and the suffering are shallow.
“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” is different.
Jessica (Rainey Qualley), a single mom of an infant son and four-year-daughter is fighting, like so many despairing young Americans today, to keep her head above water. She’s in recovery from meth addiction and the one family member she could count on for help, her grandmother, has died. She’s on her own, broke, but determined for the sake of her children and their future not to fall back on the drugs that helped her cope with life in the past.
We wouldn’t expect a character with Jessica’s background to suddenly turn into a perfect parent the second she leaves rehab. And her emotional immaturity comes through when she loses her temper at her children in moments of stress. But her tenacity, her drive to do the next right thing for their sake also comes through as she hugs them close and asks for their forgiveness when she fails. She just needs life … God … someone to give her a chance.
Instead, fate seems determined to break her. When her ex Rob (Jake Horowitz) shows up with his drug-dealing, pedophile friend Sammy (played by the iconic cult film star Vincent Gallo), Jessica’s protective instincts take over. An argument with Rob turns into a full-blown violent assault that ends with Jessica locked in a pantry with a bag of white powder and her children at the mercy of a predator. She can either draw on the faith her grandmother taught her to fight for her life and theirs or give in to oblivion.
Every performance in “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” is pitch perfect—nuanced and subtle. A lesser actor might have turned Sammy into a generic low-life caricature, instead the multifaceted Gallo plays him with a strange vulnerability underneath a quiet menace that&#8217;s all the more disturbing for its realism. His whining self-pity is both pathetic and terrifying. It’s the voice of a thousand monsters we’ve seen on a thousand court stands.
It’s tough stuff. It’s real stuff.
Christian audiences, in particular, often cite a particular verse when it comes to entertainment: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” What they often miss is that Philippians 4:8-9 instructs us to focus on the true along with noble and lovely. And the truth can often be ugly. Just ask the Old Testament.
The question is, what does a story ultimately do with the ugliness?
“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” doesn’t wallow in the darkness, though it does show us just enough of its to feel the weight — the tragic stories we see in the news every day, the whispers of terrible family secrets, the depravity unleashed when years of drug use snuff out the human conscience. But it doesn’t stay in the ugliness as so many “edgy” films do.
Producer Amanda Presmyk revealed in an interview that at one point, when the script was with New Line, the studio wanted to make the character of Sammy more palatable to make the story less true. That would have been a mistake. Read any account of meth addiction and you’ll find that it consistently leaves children vulnerable to predators. “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” doesn’t turn its eyes away from the truth. It just uses it to ultimately point to an even greater truth.
Light shines in the darkness, and in the best stories, the darkness doesn’t overcome it.

Light In The Darkness: Daily Wire’s First Original Production, Shut In, Takes Viewers On A Harrowing Redemption Journey

The Daily Wire dropped its third and final trailer for its upcoming thriller “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” Tuesday, announcing that the film will debut on February 10 on its streaming service. Voltage Pictures is heading up details on international releases, planned for later this year.
The conservative media company’s first original movie stars Rainey Qualley, who previously appeared in “Ocean’s 8” and “Mad Men,” as a young, single mother who draws on faith in her struggle against drug addiction. Indie film icon Vincent Gallo (“Buffalo 66,” “Arizona Dream”) co-stars as the violent ex holding her and her two children hostage. DJ Caruso, who previously helmed critically-acclaimed film noirs like “Disturbia” as well as mainstream blockbusters like Vin Diesel’s “XXX: Return of Xander Cage,&#8221; directs.
Shot around Nashville and Watertown, Tennessee, Caruso has called “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/shut-in">Shut In</a>” a “brilliant script” and “fiercely independent film.” In August, he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/daily-wire-announces-new-thriller-with-disturbia-director-dj-caruso-releasing-in-january">revealed</a> he that was thankful for the artistic liberty The Daily Wire provided him while working on the project, saying, “I was given the creative freedom to craft a film that features a flawed, but graceful character that must fight addiction, and dire circumstances to find light in a very dark place.”
The conservative outlet’s ability to assemble a team with substantial mainstream resumés seemed to impress the entertainment media when the project was first announced. “Conservative media company The Daily Wire is seemingly serious about growing its film and TV ambitions,” Deadline’s international editor Andreas Wiseman <a href="https://twitter.com/AndreasWiseman/status/1430551194242625542?s=20">noted</a> at the time. And Sonny Bunch, Washington Post columnist and culture editor for The Bulwark, <a href="https://twitter.com/SonnyBunch/status/1430575031898279940?s=20">said</a>, “D.J. Caruso is a good director and this is based on a very hot Black List script. Curious to see it.”
“Shut In” marks the third collaboration between The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend producers Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk (Bone Tomahawk). Their first project together, “Run Hide Fight,” scored 300,000 viewers during its live premiere in January 2021 and a 93% positive audience rating on the review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes.
Sonnier said he discovered the screenplay by Melanie Toast on the Black List website, and first attached Jason Bateman to direct. But after that project fell apart in pre-production, he opted to take it to Daily Wire co-founders Ben Shapiro, Jeremy Boreing, and Caleb Robinson, who signed on to executive produce.
In a statement to The Daily Wire last year, Sonnier shared that his company “specifically took this movie away from New Line Cinema” with the aim of making it exclusively available to The Daily Wire’s members.
“With their support, we are inspired to produce the best movies while Big Hollywood self-implodes. We are just getting started, and have many more surprises in store, stay tuned!” he said.

Daily Wire Announces Feb 10 Release Date For Its First Original Film, ‘Shut In’

Producer Dallas Sonnier says he could have found a quality actor to play the villain in his upcoming thriller “Shut In” from the “Hollywood casting universe.”
He even auditioned a few actors to play the man who stalks the film’s heroine in the upcoming movie. 
Sonnier had something else in mind. Or, to be more exact, someone else in mind.
The actor he wanted hadn’t been seen on screen in eight years, and his brash persona rubbed plenty of people the wrong way in La La Land. Plus, he’s a loud and proud Republican unwilling to play by Hollywood’s rules.
None of that mattered. Sonnier just had to add Vincent Gallo to the project.
Gallo, now 60, eventually agreed to co-star in The Daily Wire original, but Sonnier says it took all of his persuasive efforts to land the mercurial star. It was more than worth it, he adds.
“He is terrifying,” the producer says.
“Shut In,” directed by D.J. Caruso (“Disturbia”) follows a single mom (Rainey Qualley) protecting her children from an abusive ex (Jake Horowitz) and his drug-riddled friend (Gallo).
Sonnier initially connected to Melanie Toast’s “Shut In” script after learning about it from The Black List, a website connecting unproduced screenplays with industry professionals. Sonnier initially teamed with a traditional Hollywood studio, New Line Cinema, to produce the screenplay. At one point Jason Bateman of “Ozark” fame was in line to helm the project.
Enter a global pandemic, which put the project on pause. Sonnier eventually wrested control of “Shut In” back from the studio. He approached The Daily Wire about it via his Bonfire Legend film studio, and once the website gave him the green light, he was on the film’s Nashville, Tennessee, set just 30 days later.
Snagging the movie’s monster, though, wasn’t as easy.
Sonnier had met Gallo years earlier and still had his contact information. So he cold called the actor, who shot to fame by writing, directing and starring in the 1998 indie film “Buffalo ’66.”
“He had been following not only several of my movies and was very pleased with my work, but he also was well aware of our partnership with The Daily Wire,” Sonnier says of their initial conversation.
Gallo wasn’t sold on acting again after all this time, particularly in a film he wasn’t directing.
“He tried to say no a hundred times,” the producer recalls.
But Sonnier finally got his man, with the approval of Caruso. And once Gallo signed up, his commitment astounded Sonnier.
“He really went all in in a way I don’t always see with some of the greatest actors on the planet,” he says, comparing Gallo’s commitment level to that of Heath Ledger on “The Dark Knight” set.
“He had a very particular wardrobe, set of mannerism and speech patterns,” the producer says, adding something else few stars would do for the role. Gallo had one of his teeth, a “healthy one,” Sonnier notes, pulled to complete the transformation into his part. “He crafted a completely three-dimensional villainous character &#8230; when you make the villains human, it makes them that much more terrifying and real.”
At times, Sonnier says it was hard to watch him hitting his marks through the on-set monitor.
Gallo’s challenging reputation is no secret. He clashed with co-star Christina Ricci on the set of “Buffalo ’66,” leaving the young star torn about the experience. She’s proud of the film and praised Gallo’s talents, but she recalls some confrontations on the set that left her jarred.
A quick YouTube search reveals Gallo berating a small group of journalists during a chat about “Buffalo ’66.” Gallo’s last directorial effort, 2010’s “Promises Written in Water,” nabbed a brief festival run but never got a mainstream release, per Gallo’s <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/2011/07/vincent-gallo-doesnt-plan-on-releasing-promises-written-in-water-117190/">wishes</a>.
Sonnier found a different Gallo on his movie set.
“I’d love to work with him again. He was an absolute gentleman … he was so dedicated and so kind,” he says.
Gallo isn’t just a singular actor and director. He’s worked as a model, singer, director and more, a true renaissance man who rejects the trappings of fame. He’s also a provocateur, showcasing artwork and social media posts quick to rile the easily offended and, perhaps, those with thicker skins, too.
One example: His website features an escort service option — one of numerous satirical elements on his site — plus original art work excoriating politicians like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (a T-shirt with her image on it with the word “ignorant” written across it).
“I think that if he wasn’t a successful satirist no one would be bothered by it,” Sonnier says. “The fact that he gets under people’s skin and he is successful in drumming up controversy is the mark of a great artist in many regards.”
“I’m not particularly bothered by it,” he adds.
What the prolific producer does want, though, is for “Shut In” to be seen by people across the ideological spectrum. His work isn’t overtly political but distributing “Shut In” via The Daily Wire may scare some potential audiences away.
It’s his job, along with Gallo and company, to lure them back.
“The movies that we are making and distributing [through The Daily Wire] are not conservative propaganda movies,” he says. 
“The truth is, I want liberals to watch the movie,” he says. “If we do a good enough job, and make the movies transcend politics while still being something a conservative audience adores … then I think we’ve succeeded.”
