Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) said over the weekend that he does not believe that anyone cares about the numerous lies that he has been caught telling.
Walz made the remarks during a &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; interview with host Shannon Bream when confronted over numerous lies he&#8217;s told that have been exposed since he became Vice President Kamala Harris&#8217; vice presidential running mate.
Walz has claimed that his lies were nothing more than him making &#8220;misstatements.”
&#8220;You&#8217;ve modified your story or explained that you misspoke about things involving your military rank, about carrying a weapon in war, your 1995 DUI arrest, using IVF to have your beautiful children, being in Hong Kong and China in the summer of 1989 during the Tiananmen events,&#8221; Bream said.
&#8220;A lot of people would say they couldn&#8217;t get away with saying, &#8216;I&#8217;m just too passionate. My grammar is not right. I&#8217;m a knucklehead,'&#8221; Bream continued. &#8220;What do you say to the American people who think I don&#8217;t know that I can trust this guy with all those modifications to be the potential commander in chief of this country?&#8221;
Walz responded by saying that he believes that people &#8220;heard&#8221; him &#8220;speaking passionately&#8221; about issues where he made false claims.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t think people care whether I used IUI or IVF,&#8221; he continued, before lying again when he falsely claimed that former President Donald Trump opposed IVF and other similar treatments.
He claimed that he was very proud of his record and that he has &#8220;never disparaged&#8221; someone else, even though he has repeatedly lied about Trump on the campaign trail.
He claimed that he would &#8220;own up when I misspeak.&#8221;
Bream responded: &#8220;And if we&#8217;re going to deal in truth, both the president, the former president, and his nominee, have said that they are very supportive of IVF.&#8221;

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) defended over the weekend his decision to give illegal aliens a wide range of free services in the state that act as a magnet for encouraging illegal immigration.
Walz made the remarks during a &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; interview with Shannon Bream when confronted about some of the extreme policies that he has pursued at the expense of taxpayers.
Bream said that it was important to talk about his record since it &#8220;elucidates for people how [he] may serve&#8221; since he would only be a heartbeat away from serving as president if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the election this fall.
&#8220;[You] signed into law initiatives allowing immigrants in the country illegally to apply for driver&#8217;s licenses, qualify for free tuition at state universities, and enroll in the state&#8217;s free health care program for low income residents,&#8221; Bream said.
When asked if taxpayers should have to pay for these unpopular programs, Walz claimed without evidence that Harris does not support the initiatives — even though she indicated support for them just a few years ago.
Walz then defended the radical programs, saying that his state ranks as top business state where people have health care access.
He also claimed that his state had some of the safest roads in the country.
Walz then claimed that Harris was the strongest candidate when it comes to securing the southern border, an issue that she was put in charge of and failed miserably to achieve as well over 10 million illegal aliens came into the U.S.

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said over the weekend that if Republicans control the entire federal government in 2024 that there will be major changes coming to border security and the number of illegal aliens in the U.S.
Donalds made the remarks during a Sunday interview on &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; with Shannon Bream when asked about what promises he could make to the American people about what will change if Republicans run the tables in November.
&#8220;A couple of things,&#8221; Donalds responded. &#8220;Trump had the border secured when he was President of the United States. When Joe Biden came in, the first thing he did was rip up the border policy simply because they were put in place by Donald Trump. It was a very stupid decision by Joe Biden. The country has suffered as a result.&#8221;
&#8220;So now what we are going to do is go back to ending &#8216;catch-and-release&#8217; and go back to &#8216;Remain in Mexico.&#8217; We will have to deport millions of people who should not be here because our cities and states simply cannot handle the flow of all these illegal migrants,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;You have Jordanian people going in trying to breach Quantico under Joe Biden. You saw what happened on the southern border in California, where they were trying to scale the wall in California and get over that wall there.&#8221;
&#8220;What President Trump is going to do is put back the policies that kept our country secure, and we will deport millions of people,&#8221; he concluded. &#8220;It needs to be done. Then in Congress, with a policy like H.R. 2, if you have the votes in the House and the Senate, we are going to move large parts of this to become federal law, which gives the president more authority to secure the nation.&#8221;

Virginia Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/glenn-youngkin">Glenn Youngkin</a> refused to completely rule out jumping into the 2024 Republican Party presidential primary when pressed about the matter over the weekend.
The news comes after top Republican governors who will be influential in helping shape who wins the early states — like Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu — have said that they do not believe that the race needs more candidates at this point since the process is already well underway.
Youngkin made the remarks during an interview with Shannon Bream on &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; which comes as <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/08/18/rupert-murdoch-glenn-youngkin-fox-news-presidency/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> have said that Rupert Murdoch, who owns Fox News, has personally urged Youngkin to run.
Bream then highlighted a report in The Wall Street Journal, which is also owned by Rupert Murdoch, that claimed that if the state elections in Virginia go well this November that it could allow Youngkin to make a late entry into the race.
&#8220;What do you thinking about 2024?&#8221; Bream asked. &#8220;Are you definitively ruling it in or out?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, Shannon, I&#8217;ve been really clear, I am so focused on 2023,&#8221; Youngkin responded. &#8220;It&#8217;s the most important election in the nation, in my view, we have a chance to demonstrate that common sense conservative policies can, in fact, result in great outcomes.&#8221;
Youngkin responded by highlighting all of his accomplishments in the state.
&#8220;That sounds like a stump speech,&#8221; Bream responded. &#8220;Any way you would take those skills to running in 2024 for the presidency?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, as I&#8217;ve said, I&#8217;m not in Iowa at the state fair,&#8221; he responded. &#8220;I was actually at the Rockingham County Fair and yesterday, I was supporting one of our delegates outside Petersburg. I&#8217;m campaigning in Virginia for Virginians, not around the country.&#8221;
&#8220;I will leave that as the door still seems like maybe there&#8217;s a little crack open there,&#8221; Bream nudged.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) cautioned in an interview over the week that Republican lawmakers need to have a strong case if they decide that they want to move forward with impeaching President Joe Biden, saying that doing so could result in Republicans losing control of the House.
Mace made the remarks on Sunday during an interview with Shannon Bream on &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; when asked about whether Republicans were &#8220;overhyping&#8221; the upcoming testimony this week from Devon Archer, a former friend and business associate of Hunter Biden.
&#8220;No, I don&#8217;t think so. This was a person who was in business with Hunter Biden and Biden family members. He was the BFF of the president&#8217;s son,&#8221; Mace said. &#8220;He has a lot of information, I believe that we&#8217;ll be able to fact check and corroborate with other witnesses and other whistleblowers. And when we just had two IRS whistleblowers, admitting that their investigation has been blocked by federal agencies. And is he going to tell us that Joe Biden was in the room via conference call or in person and to what extent he was involved in this mess? And the American people have the right to know whether he was or was not.&#8221;
Mace said that the evidence from the House Oversight Committee&#8217;s investigation into the Biden family was &#8220;overwhelmingly piling up&#8221; but not all of it could be shared because of confidentiality.
&#8220;For example, the 170+ suspicious activity reports pointing to money laundering, bribery, racketeering, and corruption, etc.,&#8221; she said. &#8220;So we have to go find the bank records, we have to go find witnesses and other whistleblowers to prove it in other ways, since we can&#8217;t release that information. So it&#8217;s really important, in my estimation, no matter what side of the aisle you are on, release everything at the point that you can, release it all the American people.&#8221;
When asked about the divide among congressional Republicans on whether Biden should be impeached, Mace noted that an impeachment inquiry, which House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has floated, is different than an impeachment vote.
&#8220;I will tell you, every time we walk the plank, we are putting moderate members, members that won Biden-won districts, we are putting those seats at risk for 2024,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We are putting the majority at risk, and it&#8217;s not just impeachment that does that. Other issues like abortion, etc., also put those members on the plank.&#8221;
&#8220;But the one thing I&#8217;ll say is this, is that whatever the evidence shows us, we ought to follow the facts. And we have to be better than Nancy Pelosi,&#8221; she concluded. &#8220;Pelosi really politicized the impeachment process. We do not want to do that here. We have to show overwhelming undeniable evidence in order to move this thing forward. And if we can&#8217;t, then we should not. But if we do, then we ought to use every tool in the toolbox to make sure the American people see it for what it is and we can hold everyone accountable.&#8221;

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) laid out the message that he wants to convey to Americans — ahead of a potential 2024 presidential bid — that the vision that the left is selling to Americans is one of grievances.

Senator, welcome back to &#8220;FOX News Sunday&#8221;.
SEN. TIM SCOTT (R-SC): Good morning, Shannon. I hope you&#8217;re doing well.
BREAM: I am. I hope you are as well. I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;re a bit jetlagged because you spent a lot of time in Iowa and that&#8217;s gotten a lot of notice. You&#8217;ve been testing a message there.
Do you now see a lane for you in the 2024 GOP primary?
SCOTT: You know, Shannon, more importantly than a lane for me is, do we have lane for young kids growing up in single-parent households like I did? Looking at moms, single mothers who are working 16 hours a day like my mom did, can we make sure the lane to the American Dream is wide open for them?
I spent the day with Governor Reynolds who just passed monumental school choice reform, a powerful tool to make sure that parents have a choice and kids have a chance.
So, my focus is still on the mission of making sure that every single American believes that the American Dream is achievable for them.
BREAM: So, you talk with an optimistic message, and we talked about how you are highlighting faith not only in the religious sense, but that you want Americans to have faith in each other.
I want to put up our recent FOX News poll &#8212;
SCOTT: Yes.
BREAM: &#8212; about how Americans feel about things today. They say, we are dysfunctional family, 81 percent of them.
Is it realistic to believe that you or any other politician can get us out of our corners and get people back to a place where there isn&#8217;t so much division?
SCOTT: There&#8217;s no doubt, Shannon, that when you look at that poll, that&#8217;s one of the reasons why I think it&#8217;s really important for us to come forward and have an authentic and sincere conversation about the goodness of America. In today&#8217;s society, the progressive left is trying to make America into grievance culture when in fact we&#8217;ve always stood on the foundation of greatness.

The greatest story of progress in the world is American progress in the last 50 years. I wish we&#8217;d spend more time talking about the goodness of this nation and stop the cancel culture.
BREAM: OK. Let&#8217;s talk about this positive message in talking about things like cancel culture. Will it work?
&#8220;The New York Times&#8221; says this about your assets being optimistic and possibly history-making as the nominee. Both of those assets could prove to be a liability in today&#8217;s Republican primary environment where voters rail against what they see is unfair favoritism toward people of color and where activists may be more interested in anger than optimism.
Everybody says they hate negative ads. They don&#8217;t like the political sniping. But the numbers show us they actually worked.
So, will this optimistic message work?
SCOTT: Well, certainly, I think it&#8217;s always worked. I mean, America is a country founded on the concept of hope.
Think about it this way &#8212; a world without America is a very dark place. America without faith is a nation without hope. So we definitely have to continue to work on the foundation that we have stood upon for the last 250-plus years.
But in addition to that, we have to be able to contrast between why we are a great country and why the left wants us to talk about the grievance. The fact is that the left is trying to sell a drug of victimhood and a narcotic of despair.
The truth is we have so much to celebrate and yet today, in many parts of the country, you feel like you&#8217;re in quicksand. We should not allow the zip code of a child to determine the quality of their life because education is the most powerful tool to equalize opportunity in this nation. But there are poor zip codes where that&#8217;s not possible.
We have to do something about that as one American family and, frankly, governors like Kim Reynolds and others are starting to take that responsibility, and prove that we as the GOP, the great opportunity party, we love America, we love our kids, and frankly, we are the best hope for a united future.
BREAM: OK. I want to talk about school choice in a minute but a couple of other things about your &#8212;
SCOTT: Yes, ma&#8217;am.
BREAM: &#8212; trip to Iowa.
So, not everybody thought your message was uplifting, including this one reporter from &#8220;The New York Magazine&#8217;s&#8221; &#8220;Intelligencer&#8221;. He says this: It&#8217;s hard to recall a more stridently asserted expression of belief that the route to national peace and unity requires the subjugation of one party by the other, the Scott speech was a relentlessly partisan screed accusing Joe Biden and the left of pursuing a blueprint for ruining America.
So, how does that square with the message of us having faith in each other as Americans?
SCOTT: Well, Shannon, that&#8217;s a great question. And once again, it goes back to the contrast that is necessary. I&#8217;m a hopeful guy not because I didn&#8217;t have to overcome problems. I had a miserable beginning, growing up in a single-parent household mired in poverty, the challenges that I face from self-esteem to low grades were monumental.
I overcame those challenges with grit, hard work, and inspiration. And so, the truth is, the left today, they seem to be working on a blueprint on how to ruin America. If you wanted to ruin America, you would print and spend trillions of dollars leading to the highest inflation we&#8217;ve seen in 40 years.
Why is that negative to point out the fact that under Joe Biden&#8217;s leadership, we&#8217;ve had the highest inflation in 40 years? Why is it negative to point out that we&#8217;ve had four and a half million people across our southern border illegally? Why is it negative to point out the fact that we&#8217;ve had 100,000 deaths to overdoses linked to fentanyl thousands upon thousands of those deaths?
If we don&#8217;t understand the state of America and the weakness of the progressive movement, then it&#8217;s impossible for us to offer positive optimistic solutions to the challenges that we face because of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.
BREAM: You touch there and you do often about your personal story. It&#8217;s very inspiriting and compelling to people whether they support you or not, but even your supporters say there has to been more.
An opinion piece very favorable to you says this: you&#8217;re a talented candidate finding your theme, but you have to be careful not to substitute first-person narrative for an argument about why he is the right person to lead the country.
So if you get in, what is the argument for you policy-wise versus President Trump or anybody else who gets into this field? How are you different or better than the other options?
SCOTT: Well, Shannon, one of the things I love to take time to talk about, I hope we have about 30 minutes left to have this conversation is the policy &#8212;
(LAUGHTER)
BREAM: Slightly less.
SCOTT: OK, it sounds good.
The policy positions that I&#8217;ve taken. One of the most important parts of being in the majority was the opportunity we have with the Tax and Cut and Jobs Act. I had the good fortune to be the lead sponsor of the TCJA on the personal side of the tax code.
So I had the opportunity to help write that specific legislation. And we&#8217;ve lowered their taxes for a single mom by 70 percent. We promised to put more than $4,000 back in the average family&#8217;s pocket, we ended up around $4,400.
We were able to lower unemployment for African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians to the lowest level in the history of the country and the lowest level since World War II for women.
We actually saw more money come to the Treasury with lower taxes than anyone imagined and at the exact same time, wages grew at the bottom faster than at the top.
I created opportunity zones, my signature legislation, that has seen more than $50 billion attack poverty in the hardest hit areas of the country.
At the same time I focused on education, I started the School Choice Caucus. We led to the highest level of funding for HBCUs In the history of the country and then we made it permanent.
I led on the vast majority of those pieces of legislation, I&#8217;ve worked on police reform where we want to make sure that the best wore the badge, that the officers have the best resources, the best training, and we never questioned their qualified immunity.
We had to stand in the gap when it matters the most &#8212; that means leading from the front and not from the back.
BREAM: I want to make sure quickly if we can because I want to couple&#8217;s &#8212; to a couple of these issues.
SCOTT: Yes, ma&#8217;am.
BREAM: School choice. Lisa Lightner, a special education advocate, said what you do is end up hurting public schools when you let parents take the money elsewhere. She says the vision is that the same amount of money spread out over more schools, only the best would survive. If a public school has to compete with the charter or private school, it will find a way to become better.
But she asked, how can they improve if you take even more money from them? It&#8217;s just not possible.
Your response?
SCOTT: So, let&#8217;s look at Success Academy in New York City where you see the populations are about 87 percent minority and yet their schools are the top in the state of New York. What we&#8217;ve seen very consistently, charter schools gets about half the money as public schools, yet there are public charter schools that provide choice for the parents and better quality education.
Out of the top 25 percent of high schools in the nation, more than &#8212; about 12 or about half of those are charter schools. So what we&#8217;re seeing around the country is a success of some form of school choice.
And, by the way, I don&#8217;t care whether it&#8217;s a public school, a private school, a charter school, a STEM school, a home school, a virtual school, I want every child in every zip code to have quality education. That should improve all aspects of education, not reduce funding.
BREAM: So, I asked Ambassador Haley about this last week, that this article that says the GOP &#8212; essentially U.N. Ambassador Haley give GOP cover on message of grace. It says, Scott&#8217;s message is that racism is not an institutional or systemic problem, but an individual failing. That&#8217;s precisely what conservatives want to hear so they can say, well, I&#8217;m not a racist, which means we don&#8217;t have to do much of anything about racism.
SCOTT: The only word I can think of is hogwash. The fact of the matter is I was Austin on Friday having a conversation with several hundred GOPers and we talked specifically about how the Jim Crow South impacted my family specifically.
My grandfather made the choice to be stubborn in his faith, his faith in the future, faith in himself and faith in this nation. But we had to overcome those challenges.
What I don&#8217;t like is when we hear President Biden talk about Jim Crow 2.0 when my family lived through Jim Crow, and that&#8217;s when you had to figure out the number of jellybeans in the jar in order to cast a ballot. To suggest that the current Georgia election laws are consistent with Jim Crow is just a lie.
And so, what we have to do is make sure that we arm our people today with the challenges of today and not pretend like we&#8217;re living in 1923 as opposed to 2023.

SCOTT: Well, I&#8217;m going to &#8212; I made a decision to go to church at 11:30 today.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) slammed President Joe Biden Sunday for his botched handling of the Chinese spy balloon that crossed over multiple U.S. states last week.
Cotton made the remarks on &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; with host Shannon Bream when asked to weigh in on the matter.
&#8220;What began as a spy balloon has become a trial balloon, testing President Biden&#8217;s strength and resolve. And unfortunately, the president failed that test. And that&#8217;s dangerous for the American people. The president was paralyzed for entire week by a balloon,&#8221; Cotton said. &#8220;We should have shot this balloon down over the Aleutian Islands. We should have never allowed it to transit the entire continental United States. And I think there&#8217;s a lot of open questions that the administration needs to answer to Congress on behalf of the American people about why they didn&#8217;t.&#8221;
Cotton said that part of why Biden did not want to shoot down the spy balloon is because he did want to take any &#8220;provocative or confrontational&#8221; actions against &#8220;the Chinese communists.&#8221;
Cotton said that Biden likely would have taken no action on the spy balloon had residents in Montana not taken pictures of it and posted the pictures on social media.
Cotton added that &#8220;Democratic presidents only take action like shooting down this balloon once their hand is forced. And I think on Thursday, when civilians in Montana identified this balloon, it — well, it forced the president&#8217;s hand.&#8221;

SEN. TOM COTTON (R-AR): Thank you, Shannon. It&#8217;s good to be back with you.
BREAM: OK. So, you&#8217;re in the Senate Intel Committee, maybe you can help us out a little more with this time line.
General Keane, familiar to our viewers, says it&#8217;s his belief that we knew about this when it left mainland China. We would have a way to track it over the Pacific. He is questioning why we didn&#8217;t take it out them.
Here&#8217;s what &#8220;Bloomberg&#8221; said about why we didn&#8217;t more about it after it entered U.S. airspace January 28th. It says: With such high profile trip at stake &#8212; meaning the secretary of state going &#8212; keeping it on the down-low was key. The White House opted not to inform the American public. Events, however, soon forced Biden&#8217;s hand.
As Lucas has reported and folks I&#8217;ve talked to in the Pentagon say, there are these balloons that have gone over before. So at what point do you have to tell the American public or not?
COTTON: Well, Shannon, what began as spy balloon has become a trial balloon, testing President Biden&#8217;s strength and resolve. And unfortunately, the president failed that test. And that&#8217;s dangerous for the American people. The president was paralyzed for entire week by a balloon.
We should have shot this balloon down over the Aleutian Islands. We should have never allowed it to transit the entire continental United States. And I think there&#8217;s a lot of open questions that the administration needs to answer to Congress on behalf of the American people about why they didn&#8217;t.
I think part is the president&#8217;s reluctance to take any action that will be viewed as provocative or confrontational towards the Chinese communists. I would say what&#8217;s provocative and confrontation is sending spy balloon all across America.
But second, I do believe the administration wanted to salvage the secretary of state&#8217;s trip on Friday night and they got through Thursday afternoon. Thankfully, civilians in Montana, in Billings, identified this balloon and blew the whistle on it, and finally, the administration fessed up to the American people. It took another 12 hours before the secretary of state cancelled what was an already an ill-advised trip.
So, I think there&#8217;s a lot of answers that the administration provide the American people.
BREAM: So, let me ask you about that, because you called immediately for the trip to be cancelled.
So, former Vice President Mike Pence did a different take. He did agree with you, shoot down the Chinese balloon. But he said, go ahead and send the secretary of state to China next week, have Secretary Blinken look them in the eye and tell them it better never happen again. That&#8217;s peace through strength.
So, why not have Blinken go and have this confrontation face-to-face?
COTTON: Well, if the president had chosen to shoot down the balloon when he should have over the Aleutians when &#8212; as soon as it entered our airspace, that might have been worth considering.
BREAM: Why do you think we didn&#8217;t?
COTTON: Again, I think President Biden was hoping not to take any confrontational action towards the Chinese communist. He wants to continue to develop what he called the momentum from his meeting with Xi Jinping in Bali last November, even though China has never taken any steps to try to bring down the temperature.
And as I write in &#8220;Only the Strong&#8221;, in many cases throughout history, Democratic presidents only take action like shooting down this balloon once their hand is forced. And I think on Thursday, when civilians in Montana identified this balloon, it &#8212; well, it forced the president&#8217;s hand.
I think it&#8217;s an open question that if this not become public, if the administration had not briefed this matter to Congress Thursday afternoon after it was about to become public, whether the president would have shot down the balloon once it got over the Atlantic Ocean.
BREAM: What about this contention that these balloons have gone over the U.S. or some portion of the U.S. under previous administrations and they didn&#8217;t shoot it down that we know of?
COTTON: So, I have spoken to a lot of former Trump administration officials. They say they&#8217;re not aware of anything like this happening during their administration. It&#8217;s possible maybe that happened first during the Obama administration and the military was told at the time that this is no big deal and they shouldn&#8217;t raise the alarm bells on it.
We need to get answers to that as well, though. I think some may be conflating what Lucas just reported, you know, balloons floating within the 12-mile exclusionary zones of places like Hawaii or Guam and a spy balloon going all across the middle of the country, those are two very different circumstances.
Maybe what&#8217;s even more worrisome is, one, did our senior military know about these balloons in the past and not inform their civilian superiors during the Trump administration? Or maybe worst of all, did we not know about these balloons in the past and we only learned them in retrospect by studying historical data?
Again, these are all open questions for which the American people deserve answers and we in Congress are going to get those answers.
BREAM: OK. So, you heard the Chinese government&#8217;s reaction. They say they reserve the right to make further responses, if necessary. And, last week, sitting right where you are, the chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee said he agreed with &#8212; hoped it wasn&#8217;t true, but a general who&#8217;d spoken up and said to his troops, I think we could be in conflict with China, actual war by 2025.
So, where do you put the temperature this morning?
COTTON: Well, China has been waging a cold war against the United States for decades and, unfortunately, not many of our leaders have acknowledged that, they want to deny that it&#8217;s happening. But when a nation like China is waging a cold war against us, the only choice is whether to win or to lose.
And I think this spy balloon that so vividly went across America is a very high-profile reminder to Americans about what the Chinese communist have been up to. I got to tell you viewers, if they&#8217;re worried about a spy balloon flying across middle of America, let me tell them about the TikTok app that they may have on their phone and what it means for their security and their privacy and that of their children, as well.
BREAM: And it seemed like there&#8217;s a lot of bipartisan pushback and call for us to do something more about that as well, if not out right banning it.
OK. The president&#8217;s supporters say that this actually illustrates that he&#8217;s doing good job with China. And opinion piece in &#8220;Washington Post&#8221; talks about the spy &#8212; the spy balloon as clumsy attempt by China. They say it shows its immense capacity to blunder, a tendency that President Biden&#8217;s team has lately exploited to devastating effect. The Biden team has inflicted a series of humiliation on its chief rival.
They point to the semiconductor embargo out of China, the Philippines expanding access to the U.S. military and other things. They say he&#8217;s actually doing a good job.
COTTON: Well, unfortunately, I think the humiliation this week was inflicted by Chinese communist on the president. Again, we should have shot this balloon over the Aleutians as opposed to letting it float all across Middle America on its merry way.
I mean, the idea that we are going to let this go all across America, that a spy balloon complete its spy mission before we shot it down I&#8217;m afraid is an embarrassment to the United States, not an embarrassment to the Chinese communist who are constantly pushing the envelope, constantly probing to see how far they can get away with these maligned actions and, unfortunately, I think they feel that they probably got away with it here.
BREAM: OK. Let&#8217;s talk about classified documents. You all were briefed about documents that were found in possession of former President Trump, current President Biden, but you weren&#8217;t allowed to see the documents. There&#8217;s been bipartisan frustration expressed about that.
But the DOJ sent a letter to the Intel Committee, or at least a couple of the top senators back in January 28the. They said: The committee&#8217;s interest in overseeing the nation&#8217;s intelligence activities must be carefully balanced to protect the conduct and integrity of law enforcement investigations.
So, we have two special counsels now. You&#8217;ve threatened to shut down some Senate business over this and your Democratic colleagues say you&#8217;re looking for any excuse to shut down business in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
What will you do to get your hands on the documents?
COTTON: Well, there&#8217;s not a lot of business going on, first of all. We had three votes in first month of Senate.
But I would say, we haven&#8217;t been briefed on the nature of these documents. We haven&#8217;t seen the documents. We haven&#8217;t had damage assessment. We haven&#8217;t had them characterized, which is unacceptable.
When the Intelligence Committee&#8217;s main function is to oversee these agencies that operate in secret, that Department of Justice letter is nonsense. We have an absolute right to review these documents, to make an informed judgment about what if any national security implications they may have had. Maybe they have none at all. Maybe they&#8217;re just historical curiosities.
Whether there at Mar-a-Lago or President Biden&#8217;s many mansions or offices, or at Mike Pence&#8217;s home as well, maybe there&#8217;s grave damage. We have to see the documents to make that assessment.
Now, I will say that Chairman Mark Warner and the Vice Chair Marco Rubio have been leading our committee in a strong, bipartisan, unanimous fashion to try to get action on these documents and I hope the administration responds to their inquiries.
BREAM: Will you block judicial nominees over it?
COTTON: I&#8217;m not going to take that step yet, because again Chairman Warner and Vice Chair Marco Rubio speaking for the unanimous committee have been working cooperatively, trying to get access to these documents. I hope it doesn&#8217;t come to that.
I will say this whole incident, though, raises another example of a troubling double standards that the Department of Justice has applied. With Donald Trump, you had the FBI raiding Mar-a-Lago. With Mike Pence, you had the FBI showing up within hours of himself reporting the presence of certain classified documents at his home. But with Joe Biden, they were allowed to work through private lawyers representing the interest of the president before they conducted these searches.
We still have no characterization at all in the media about what was in these documents. Within hours of the Mike Pence revelation, certain media outlets were &#8212; have gotten leaks from the Department of Justice or the FBI what was in those documents, just like you had with Mar-a-Lago.
So, the double standard you see here is the double standard that the department has been applying time and time again these two last years. And it&#8217;s very troubling to most Americans.
BREAM: Do you have comment on the special counsel investigations?
COTTON: I&#8217;ll say this, the special counsel investigation is looking into whether any action may have been illegal. That&#8217;s not the focus of the Intelligence Committee.
That&#8217;s why our review of these documents doesn&#8217;t bear at all on their investigation. We&#8217;re reviewing documents that are marked as classified for what the national security damage might have been, if any. That is totally different from the Department of Justice&#8217;s inquiries into whether there&#8217;s illegal activity related to those documents.

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) tore into leftist policies Sunday, claiming the American people are “fed up with the far-left shift” in the country. 
Appearing on <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6313848926112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News Sunday</a>, Rep. Scalise touted the House Republicans&#8217; Commitment to America agenda while saying the American people are looking for a “check and balance” to the leftist agenda being advanced under Democratic leadership. 
“They’re not looking at the Democrats&#8217; agenda saying they want more of it,” Scalise said, referring to high inflation. “They’re saying they’re fed up with the far-left shift that both Biden and [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi have taken us,” he continued, “Not down a liberal road but down a socialist road. That’s what people are rejecting, and that’s what we’re proposing an alternative to with the Commitment to America.” 
The Commitment to America, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mccarthy-unveils-new-commitment-to-america-agenda-that-gop-will-pursue-if-they-retake-house" target="_blank" rel="noopener">introduced</a> last month by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), outlines the agenda House Republicans would pursue should they retake control of the chamber after the November midterm elections. Republicans are favored with a 71% chance of winning the House,  according to a <a href="https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2022-election-forecast/house/?cid=rrpromo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">forecast</a> by FiveThirtyEight. 
The GOP plan has four themes: &#8220;An Economy That’s Strong,&#8221; &#8220;A Nation That’s Safe,&#8221; &#8220;A Future That’s Built On Freedom,&#8221; and &#8220;A Government That’s Accountable.&#8221; The proposed agenda includes goals of fighting inflation, making America energy independent, and securing the border.  
Scalise claimed that Americans “want a check and balance on this far-left agenda,” referring to Democrat policies on crime, cashless bail, and energy. He said Americans are “furious about rising crime, because Democrats embrace, not only the defund police movement, one of the craziest ideas I’ve ever heard, but now they’re going to cashless bail.”
According to a Monmouth University poll <a href="https://www.monmouth.edu/polling-institute/reports/monmouthpoll_us_100322/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> in early October, 72% of Americans thought that crime was &#8220;extremely or very important,&#8221; following 82% who felt the same about inflation. In the survey, President Biden&#8217;s approval on crime was at 32%. According to a Reuter&#8217;s/Ipsos <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/republicans-have-edge-crime-immigration-ahead-us-midterms-reutersipsos-2022-10-05/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a> released this month, voters prefer Republicans to solve the crime problem over Democrats, 40% to 32%.
Host Shannon Bream revealed during the segment that according to Fox News polling released Sunday, Democrats lead Republicans 44% to 41% in congressional vote preference. Additionally, 26% of Americans are in favor of the Commitment to America, while 21% view it unfavorably, and 52% are unfamiliar with it. 
Bream asked Scalise how worried he was about “heated political rhetoric” on both sides of the aisle, to which the congressman said that one of America’s strengths is “that we can disagree. The other side is not the demon or the enemy if they’re having a different viewpoint.”
Notably, Rep. Scalise was shot at a congressional baseball practice by a politically motivated gunman in 2017.

Top Republican Says Americans Are ‘Fed Up With The Far-Left Shift’, Want ‘Check And Balance’ On ‘Far-Left Agenda’

Moderate Democratic West Virginia Senator <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-manchin">Joe Manchin</a> implored Senate Republicans to pass his permitting reform side deal.
Appearing on &#8220;<a href="https://video.foxnews.com/v/6312827772112#sp=show-clips" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News Sunday</a>,&#8221; Manchin begged his Republican colleagues to support the deal he secured with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to reform the energy permitting system in the U.S. Manchin&#8217;s deal is flailing because of opposition from both Republicans and progressive Democrats. If the Senate cannot reach a deal, it may jeopardize a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown.
&#8220;[T]his is a chance in a lifetime for us to have energy independence,&#8221; Manchin told host Shannon Bream. &#8220;For us to have security in this nation, which we need, and making sure that we can take care of the American people with low energy prices, producing more oil, producing more gas. But we have to have permitting reform if you&#8217;re going to deliver it. You have no way of infrastructure to deliver it. So, everyone knows that. My Republican friends know that.&#8221;
Manchin dismissed an alternative piece of legislation put forth by 46 of his Republican colleagues, calling it a &#8220;messaging bill&#8221;; and claimed that <a href="https://www.energy.senate.gov/2022/9/manchin-releases-comprehensive-permitting-reform-text-to-be-included-in-continuing-resolution" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his bill</a> includes everything in the Republican bill.
He also dismissed criticism from progressive Democrats who voiced their opposition. &#8220;I never expected Bernie Sanders and the far extreme left to ever be for any permitting,&#8221; said Manchin. &#8220;They&#8217;ve never been for permitting reform. That&#8217;s why we never had it. [But this] is one time when overwhelmingly, Democrats in both the House and the Senate are supporting &#8230; We have a golden opportunity and we have a majority, overwhelming majority of Democrats supporting it. This is the most important thing that we can do today.&#8221;
&#8220;[T]he process has come down to party line vote which is unfortunate, but it is what we&#8217;re dealing with in a toxic political atmosphere,&#8221; Manchin concluded. &#8220;But I can assure you, everybody, we try to take everyone&#8217;s input on this and my Republican friends&#8217; input is in this piece of legislation.&#8221;
Democrats in the Senate are expected to <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2022/09/22/fund-government-manchin-energy-plan-00058394" target="_blank" rel="noopener">move forward</a> with a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown. But continued squabbling over the details of Manchin&#8217;s permitting reform legislation threatens to tank the government funding bill.
The deal began to fall apart early this month, when more than <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/manchins-inflation-reduction-act-side-deal-beginning-to-fall-apart-dozens-of-democrats-signal-opposition">70 progressive Democrats</a> in the House signed a letter to House Democratic Leadership signaling their opposition. A week later, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/manchins-permitting-reform-side-deal-collapsing-as-republicans-blast-bill-and-propose-their-own" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Republicans</a> blasted Manchin&#8217;s proposal for not going far enough, and proposed permitting reform legislation of their own. This week, Progressive Democrats in the <a href="https://www.politico.com/minutes/congress/09-21-2022/progs-look-for-separation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senate</a>, led by Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley, announced opposition to the bill as well.

Newly-announced &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; anchor Shannon Bream took to Twitter to celebrate her most recent career move — and she shared a dose of humility that helped to get her to where she is today.
The network announced on Thursday that Bream would be the <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/shannon-bream-lands-permanent-fox-news-sunday-gig/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">permanent replacement</a> for the former longtime &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; host, Chris Wallace, who left the show and the network last December for a contract with the short-lived streaming service CNN+. Bream, who has often shared her faith both on the air and on social media, revealed how she believed God had brought her to the right place at the right time for this new opportunity.
&#8220;Y&#8217;all, I got fired from my first tv job, by a man who told me I was the worst person he&#8217;d ever seen on tv. He also told me I&#8217;d never make it in this business. I was humiliated. I cried &#8230; a lot. I prayed &#8230; a lot. Fox News host Shannon Bream landed a <a href="https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/shannon-bream-fox-news-sunday-1235338968/">permanent gig</a> hosting the long-running &#8220;Fox News Sunday,&#8221; the network announced on Thursday.
Bream is one of several hosts who &#8220;tried out&#8221; for the role in the months since longtime former host Chris Wallace quit last December, leaving the network for a gig on CNN&#8217;s short-lived streaming service, CNN+.
Bream will be the first female to be named as a permanent host on the Sunday morning show, which has been a flagship for the network for nearly three decades. Wallace hosted the show for 18 years.
&#8220;It has been an honor to cover major news throughout Washington over the last 15 years at Fox News. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to host a Sunday show and look forward to this new role,&#8221; Bream said in a statement.
Her colleagues quickly showed their support, saying that they expected her to do great things in her new role.

Bream&#8217;s January appearance on the long-running Sunday program was the highest rated of 2022. She will leave her nightly show, &#8220;Fox News @ Night&#8221; — the network will rotate in a series of hosts until a permanent replacement is found.
The former host, <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/i-want-to-try-something-new-chris-wallace-is-leaving-fox-news-sunday-effective-immediately/">Chris Wallace</a>, announced last December that he was leaving the show — and the network — after nearly two decades.
&#8220;Eighteen years ago, the bosses here at FOX promised me they would never interfere with a guest I booked or a question I asked — and they kept that promise,” Wallace said. “I have been free to report to the best of my ability, to cover the stories I think are important, to hold our country’s leaders to account. It’s been a great ride. Shannon Bream Lands Permanent 'Fox News Sunday' Gig

Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Kathy Barnette addressed several recent controversies over her record on Sunday, as she continues to surge in the polls ahead of Tuesday&#8217;s primary.
Speaking with host Shannon Bream on &#8220;Fox News Sunday,&#8221; <a href="https://video.foxnews.com/v/6306195864112#sp=show-clips/all-shows">Barnette</a> responded to criticisms about parts of her past that have come under fire in recent days, including questions about her military service record and insensitive tweets she had made in the past. She also blasted her primary opponents for raising controversy, claiming that they were &#8220;mad&#8221; because of her recent rise.
&#8220;So I want to give you a chance to answer some of these questions and your critics,&#8221; Bream began the interview. She pointed to criticisms leveled by former President Donald Trump, who <a href="https://www.donaldjtrump.com/news/news-npfzaeus9w2028">said</a> Thursday that Barnette &#8220;will never be able to win the General Election&#8221; and criticized her for having &#8220;many things in her past which have not been properly explained or vetted.&#8221; Barnette&#8217;s primary opponent, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08d9sKVuQt4">Dr. Mehmet Oz</a>, echoed those criticisms.
Bream began with questions about Barnette&#8217;s military record. &#8220;You have now released a couple of forms related to your service. Your website, your bio says you served for 10 years. Critics say those forms do not prove that out. Your response?&#8221; Bream asked.
&#8220;That is not true. Those forms do prove just that,&#8221; Barnette responded. &#8220;I have never — I have not embellished on my record, on my time in the military. And I&#8217;m very grateful that I had the wonderful opportunity to serve our country.&#8221;
According to her website, Barnette served in the Army Reserve and National Guard from 1990 to 2000. Included on her website are photographs of her DD214 certificate of discharge from active duty, a record of service form, and her discharge documents from both the Army reserve and National Guard.
&#8220;Where were you an adjunct college professor?&#8221; Bream asked next.
Barnette answered, pointing to a module on her website which linked to a page that answers a number of outstanding questions. According to that page, titled, &#8220;<a href="https://barnetteforsenate.com/things-you-want-to-know/">Things You Want To Know</a>,&#8221; Barnette was an adjunct professor at Judson University, a small Christian college in Elgin, Illinois.
&#8220;OK. When did you move to Pennsylvania?&#8221; Bream continued.
&#8220;[We&#8217;ve] lived here for nine years, going into our 10th year,&#8221; Barnette replied. &#8220;I&#8217;ve raised two of my babies here.&#8221;
Bream then questioned her about several insensitive tweets. Bream quoted: &#8220;you said &#8216;if you love freedom, Islam must not be allowed to thrive under any condition. You&#8217;ve got tweets about former President Obama, one of them in 2016 says &#8216;Obama is a Muslim doing Muslim-like things.&#8217; He has said that he is not, he is a practicing Christian. So any context then for those particular tweets?&#8221;
The context, Barnette explained, was that she made the tweets in the midst of several high-profile news events involving people from Muslim backgrounds. &#8220;we had the Obama administration bringing in a lot of Syrian refugees at that time &#8230;We were looking at the Pulse nightclub shooting. We were watching people take vehicles, weaponize them, and run people down in the street. We were looking at the San Bernadino shooting. We were looking at some very unnerving things that as Americans we thought would never happen here.&#8221;
She also said that many of her tweets were not fully thought out. &#8220;The overwhelming majority of the tweets that are now being presented are not even full thoughts. They&#8217;re not even full sentences. And yet, people take it and they begin to build their own narrative around it. So I can&#8217;t provide a lot of context because, again, it&#8217;s almost 10 years ago. That&#8217;s how far they have to go back to try to find anything on me.&#8221;
Barnette closed the interview by blasting Oz and fellow challenger David McCormick, while touting her own accomplishments.
&#8220;We had seven debates and Mehmet Oz and David McCormick only showed up to two,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We had a number of forums and I can only recall them showing up to two. And then while they were attacking one another on television, I was out here with the people. We spent less than $2 million and they&#8217;re mad. They&#8217;re mad because I didn&#8217;t ask for permission to be in this space. I just walked in because this is my country. And our country is in trouble. And I don&#8217;t believe we have anymore room to elect warm bodies with an R next to their name and say hey, check, Republicans win. We don&#8217;t win. It&#8217;s not working out for us.&#8221;
