The celebrity-focused news show “E! News” has been canceled after more than three decades on the air.
This announcement comes after the show was put on hiatus in 2020, then brought back in 2023 as a nighttime program after running as a daytime show for most of its existence. Now the formerly popular entertainment news source will wrap up for good and stop making new episodes after September 25 of this year, per <a href="https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/e-news-canceled-1236469392/">Variety</a>.
The half-hour program launched in 1991 and currently airs at 11:30 p.m. It is hosted by Keltie Knight and Justin Sylvester. Former E! News hosts include Ryan Seacrest, Giuliana Rancic, Jason Kennedy, Catt Sadler, and others.
A source said that this decision comes as customer preferences increasingly favor digital and social platforms for news coverage, the outlet noted.
The E! network is not thought to be affected by this change as it’s currently being spun off from NBC Universal to its new parent company, Versant. It’s expected that E! will still have live awards show coverage from the red carpet and will still produce original programming such as “E!’s Dirty Rotten Scandals.”
This latest entertainment news comes on the heels of CBS <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/go-f-yourself-colbert-unleashes-anti-trump-tirade-amid-report-his-show-loses-40m-annually">announcing</a> the cancellation of “The Late Show” hosted by Stephen Colbert. Other hosts and celebrities have been furious on Colbert’s behalf, insinuating that the show being axed was instigated by the network settling a $16 million settlement with President Donald Trump for election interference.
Colbert dropped a ton of f-bombs during his monologue Monday night. He mentioned that the financials for the show were “leaked” as a way to distract from the alleged Trump conspiracy. This was in reference to reports that “The Late Show” lost $40 million per year in revenue. 
“Over the weekend, somebody at CBS followed up their gracious press release with a gracious anonymous leak saying they pulled the plug on our show because of losses pegged between $40 million and $50 million a year. $40 million is a big number. I could see us losing $24 million, but where would Paramount have possibly spent the other $16 million? Oh, yeah,” he said.

The new host of “Wheel of Fortune” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ryan-seacrest">Ryan Seacrest</a> brought a boost to the ratings for the popular game show, scoring the biggest audience the show’s had in years.
The season premiere on September 9 brought in more than 9.63 million viewers who tuned in to watch Seacrest host the show, the largest number of viewers for a season opener since 2015, which had 11 million people tune in, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/wheel-of-fortune-ratings-new-host-ryan-seacrest-1236010833/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The Hollywood Reporter.
The viewers appeared to stick around for the entire first week, with the radio personality behind the wheel earning an average of 8.31 million viewers, boosting the ratings 21 percent over the 6.87 million who tuned in for the week opener in September 2023.
Seacrest landed the top gig to host the syndicated show following <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pat-sajak">Pat Sajak</a>’s announcement in 2023 that he was leaving after hosting “Wheel” for more than 40 years, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-host-chosen-to-succeed-pat-sajak-on-wheel-of-fortune">reported</a>.

In his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pat-sajak-delivers-farewell-speech-for-last-wheel-of-fortune-episode">final message</a> to viewers, Sajak acknowledged that the “time has come to say goodbye. I have a few thanks and acknowledgments before I go, and I want to start with all watching out there. It’s been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes night after night, year after year, decade after decade.”
“I always felt that the privilege came with the responsibility to keep this daily half-hour a safe place for family fun,” he added. “No social issues. No politics. Nothing embarrassing, I hope. Just a game. But gradually, it became more than that.”
“A place where kids learned their letters, where people from other countries honed their English skills, where families came together along with friends and neighbors, and entire generations. What an honor to play even a small part in all of that,” Sajak continued. “Thank you for allowing me into your lives.”
Last year, Sajak announced he was leaving the show, with co-host Vanna White — who first appeared alongside the host in 1982 — remaining on board.
“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” Sajak wrote on June 12, 2023.

Ryan Seacrest made his hosting debut on “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/wheel-of-fortune">Wheel of Fortune</a>” Monday night and referenced longtime former host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pat-sajak">Pat Sajak</a> but did not say his name.
“So happy to be here,” Seacrest said to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">co-host</a> Vanna White after being introduced by announcer Jim Thornton at the start of the show, per <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/wheel-of-fortune-host-ryan-seacrest-pat-sajak-first-episode-1236138335/">Variety</a>. 
“So happy to have you!” White replied.

I still can’t believe my luck of being here with you tonight to continue this legacy of this incredible show with all of you. Before Seacrest took over, Sajak hosted the popular game show for more than four decades. The former host discussed his decision to step down during filming in June. 
“I’ve always said this to you, you’ve heard me say this dozens of times, I’d rather leave a couple of years too early than a couple of years too late,” Sajak <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pat-sajak-opens-up-about-leaving-wheel-of-fortune">told</a> his daughter Maggie Sajak during a Good Morning America interview.
“Could I still do it? Yeah, I think I could for a while,” he went on. “There’s also some other things in life that we’d like to do, and I’m enjoying this last year. It’s been a great 40 years, and I’m looking forward to whatever’s ahead.”
Seacrest previously gushed about taping “Wheel of Fortune” after being on set in July. “I’m still spinning with excitement!” he <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ryanseacrest/reel/C9fm9OXJGPQ/">wrote</a> in an Instagram post caption at the time.

At one point, Seacrest asked the president to share some of the holiday foods he had been enjoying as he had traveled first to Camp David and then to St. Croix, the U.S. Virgin Islands, over the last week.

Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, a vehement Donald Trump critic, changed the lyrics to one of the band’s most popular songs to take a shot at the former president and his supporters during a New Year’s Eve performance. 
While performing the band’s 2004 hit song “American Idiot” Sunday night in Hollywood, Armstrong sang, “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda” instead of the original lyrics, “I’m not a part of the redneck agenda.” The performance was broadcast on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve&#8221; on ABC, which was hosted by Ryan Seacrest, who also interviewed President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden on the network’s special coverage of the New Year’s Eve festivities.

“American Idiot” was released during America’s war against Iraq following the 9/11 terror attacks and was a clear statement against then-President George W. Bush and the war, Business Insider <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/green-day-changed-song-slam-trump-during-new-year-eve-2024-1">reported</a>. Armstrong has previously shared his strong feelings on Trump, telling concertgoers in 2018, “I f***ing hate Donald Trump so much.”

According to a <a href="https://puck.news/vanna-white-would-like-a-raise/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Puck News, White, 66, hired an attorney last week amid claims that she had not had a pay raise in nearly two decades. The report claimed that White, who has been turning the iconic letters since 1982, has been stalled at $3 million per year for the last 18 years – occasionally receiving bonuses rather than pay raises. Sajak, in contrast, pulled in $15 million annually for hosting the show – according to a Forbes <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/natalierobehmed/2016/10/06/the-worlds-highest-paid-tv-show-hosts-dr-phil-leads-with-88-million/?sh=74425167343b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> published in 2016.
White hired attorney Bryan Freedman, known for his aggressive representation of television personalities against their respective networks. Freedman <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/25/business/media/carlson-lemon-lawyer-freedman.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">made headlines</a> recently when he was reportedly hired to represent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tucker-carlson-and-don-lemon-hire-the-same-attorney-after-both-were-fired-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ousted cable news hosts</a> Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon against Fox News and CNN, respectively.
White&#8217;s contract is up at the end of the 2023-2024 season, and Freedman is expected to &#8220;hit the pay discrepancy issue hard &#8230; as well as possible gender discrimination with respect to White’s salary&#8221; if Sony Pictures wants to keep her on the show.
White has not yet commented on Seacrest&#8217;s announcement, but the the former &#8220;Live with Kelly and Ryan&#8221; host made it clear that he was looking forward to the new gig.

New Host Chosen To Succeed Pat Sajak On 'Wheel Of Fortune'

Several names have surfaced as possible replacements for retiring &#8220;Wheel of Fortune&#8221; host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pat-sajak-announces-next-year-will-be-his-last-on-wheel-of-fortune" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pat Sajak</a>, who is walking away from the popular game show after more than 40 years.
Celebrities like <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/live-with-kelly-and-ryan-seacrest-is-out-heres-whos-in" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ryan Seacrest</a>, Sajak&#8217;s longtime co-host Vanna White, and Whoopi Goldberg are just a few of the names being floated, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/pat-sajak-wheel-of-fortune-rumored-successor-ryan-seacrest-prepped-game-show-success-dick-clark" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> reported.
The speculation comes after Sajak tweeted, &#8220;Well, the time has come. I&#8217;ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It&#8217;s been a wonderful ride, and I&#8217;ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it&#8217;ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)&#8221;

Seacrest seems to be a top contender among speculators, given that he&#8217;s got a lot of experience as the host of &#8220;American Idol,&#8221; &#8220;Dick Clark&#8217;s New Year&#8217;s Rockin&#8217; Eve,&#8221; and as host of the podcast &#8220;On Air With Ryan Seacrest.&#8221; Seacrest recently even stepped down as cohost of &#8220;Live With Kelly and Ryan,&#8221; leaving him technically free for a new hosting gig.

While Seacrest has yet to say anything publicly about the conjecture, <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/replace-pat-sajak-wheel-fortune-232410911.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Yahoo.com</a> noted that oddsmakers at BetOnline think Seacrest is second in line behind White. Sajak&#8217;s daughter Maggie Sajak is also in the running, <a href="https://www.betonline.ag/sportsbook/futures-and-props/entertainment/wheel-of-fortune-host">according</a> to BetOnline.
Vanna first appeared alongside Sajak in 1982. After Pat tweeted that the 41st season would be his last, White took to social media.
