I was told that an email from Ann Coulter is what led David Keene to hire me in 2006.
She wrote, “You only have to tell Lisa to do something once.”
Despite all the drama, I hope he never regretted it.
While David was chairman of the <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2026/mar/9/david-keene-maestro-conservative-movement-dead-80/">American Conservative Union</a>, a volunteer position, I worked with him as the Director of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) from June 2006 to April 2011. In planning the conference there were many ups and downs. I’m sure there were times when I disappointed David in some effort, but I can’t think of any time when he disappointed me. Even though I was only 28 when I began as CPAC Director, he gave me the same opportunity to give my opinion when I disagreed with a board member, sponsor, speaker, or member of Congress. Not to brag, but I won a couple of those battles.
During the five years I worked with David, I was privy to the way he worked within the conservative movement. I saw him compromise with people he didn’t like and who didn’t like him. I saw him defend people he disagreed with on issues because it was the right thing to do. I saw him make decisions based on what was best for the conference attendees and nothing else. I was on a high when he once told me a speaker idea I had was “inspired.”

One of the things I admired most about David is that he’s not one of those Old Guard members of the conservative movement who don’t value dissent or new blood. As the chairman of ACU/CPAC, he fought to give everyone a seat at the table. Those like Chris Barron, who endeavored to start a group that represented conservative gays and their allies. As well as leaders of the Tea Party movement who criticized his friends in Congress.
David was adamant about including emerging conservative leaders as speakers at the conference. In February 2010, it was his idea to invite Marco Rubio, who was then a long shot in the Republican primary against Charlie Crist, to be the opening speaker at CPAC. He knew the value of sending that message to his Republican friends and to the media.
I’ve seen him give dozens and dozens of young leaders and unknown activists a place in the spotlight over the years. I was fortunate to be one of them. I’m sure it’s because he still thought of himself as one of us — and he was! On <a href="https://www.newsmax.com/john-gizzi/david-keene-political-strategist-obit/2026/03/08/id/1248779/">Newsmax</a>, John Gizzi wrote about David’s decades in the conservative movement that began on his college campus.
When Rush Limbaugh was the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w32hFilBAUg">closing speaker</a> at the 2009 conference, it was David who suggested I introduce Rush. We knew the speech would be covered by many of the networks, and it was a very visible spot. David didn’t insist on some well-known Congressman or Senator, donor, or head of a prominent conservative organization. He suggested me because during one of our planning sessions, I said Rush was the person who got me excited about being a conservative. Rush was my Reagan.

The same thing happened a few years later when Donald Trump was scheduled to make a surprise appearance at the conference (thanks to Chris Barron!), and I expressed interest in introducing him because I enjoyed Trump’s candor — also no one else asked. How times have changed.

From time to time, friends or acquaintances came to me with an idea or project and requested a meeting with David. Unless the timing just didn’t work out, I don’t recall any instance when David refused to meet with someone. He was always available to give young conservatives advice and to listen to what they had to say. In fact, it is because of David that CPAC became a must-attend event for College Republicans and other conservative students. In CPAC’s early years, David made a promise to President Reagan that CPAC would never be priced out of reach for students and young activists. Even when hotel costs went up, student registration was always between $25-50 ($15 for early bird rate). He also knew the value of CPAC as a reunion for the “vast right-wing conspiracy.” It wasn’t just about what was happening on stage, but the conversations that happened in the bar, at ancillary events and in the hallways. It was where people met future coworkers, allies, and spouses.
Even though I hadn’t spoken to David in years, it is very important to me that he be remembered for the intellectual and activist giant that he was. In the five years I worked for him, I learned which battles were worth fighting. I learned the importance of being supportive of friends. While I wish I could have worked for David longer than I did (we both left in 2011), I’ll always be grateful to him for giving me a chance to lead CPAC during an important time for the conservative movement. I’ll also remember the man he was in a city and industry that treats people as disposable and transactional. 
As his daughter Kerry wrote, “I will remember not the public figure, but a father who welcomed me as his own, who gave me a home, and my first job.”
I will always think of him that way, too.

A clip of conservative radio legend Rush Limbaugh praising Charlie Kirk in 2018 made its way around social media on Wednesday. The clip surfaced after conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck <a href="https://x.com/glennbeck/status/1968370982122393717?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1968370982122393717%7Ctwgr%5Ef26be3f55b5881513266f5b55deb7177bf4e62f0%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fgo.arena.im%2Fembed%3Fpublisher%3Ddaily-wireevent%3Dr1m3Cx1v%3D2">placed</a> Limbaugh&#8217;s famous golden microphone next to Kirk&#8217;s empty seat while hosting &#8220;The Charlie Kirk Show.&#8221;
During a radio broadcast on January 11, 2018, Limbaugh said that he’d met Kirk for the first time a month prior, when Kirk was in South Florida for a conference.
&#8220;They brought Charlie Kirk to the golf course to meet me about a month ago. He was in town to set up this Turning Point thing, and they brought him to the golf course to meet me,&#8221; Limbaugh said on his nationally broadcast radio show. &#8220;He told me how he grew up in a home where my program was on all the time. He was just effusively complimentary to me, which I, of course, understood and told him he’s very wise. His family’s very wise. He chuckled; he laughed.&#8221;
&#8220;This is the kind of guy that you can see really becoming big in politics as he gets older,&#8221; Limbaugh added. &#8220;He just has the carriage, the personality, the charisma.&#8221;
Limbaugh then said that he remembered that when Bill Clinton was in college, people around Clinton were saying that he would become president one day.
&#8220;I’m telling you, people are saying the same things about Charlie Kirk,&#8221; Limbaugh added.

Limbaugh died in February 2021 at 70 years old after a battle with lung cancer. Limbaugh was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Donald Trump at the 2020 State of the Union. After Kirk was assassinated last week, Trump said he would also award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
While hosting Kirk&#8217;s show on Wednesday, a teary-eyed Beck told a story of how Kirk told him when they first met that he wanted to become like The Blaze founder. &#8220;Let me translate: &#8216;I want to be Rush Limbaugh.&#8217; He didn&#8217;t want to be me,&#8221; Beck said. &#8220;He wanted to be Rush Limbaugh. &#8230; And I remember thinking, kid, maybe some day because I think you have it.&#8221;
Beck added that Kirk &#8220;surpassed Rush Limbaugh by miles.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m a broadcaster, Rush was a broadcaster, but Charlie was a broadcaster and a narrowcaster. Charlie was a pastor and a priest, and listening to the way he could argue and think differently, he was a rabbi as well, and one of the best. He was a political organizer. He was a political think tank himself. He was a compassionate friend. He surpassed Rush Limbaugh by miles.&#8221;
Daily Wire host Michael Knowles similarly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/would-have-been-president-michael-knowles-praises-charlie-kirks-generational-leadership">said</a> that Kirk a &#8220;generational voice in politics,&#8221; adding that he &#8220;would have been president.&#8221;
&#8220;His friends knew it, his many, many admirers knew it, and his enemies, to whom he was always so gracious, they knew it too,&#8221; Knowles added. &#8220;Everybody knew it.”

Cosmetics chairman and billionaire William Lauder has been revealed as the purchaser of the late <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/rush-limbaugh">Rush Limbaugh&#8217;s</a> Palm Beach estate for a record of more than $150 million.
The 62-year-old executive chairman of the famed cosmetics brand The Estée Lauder Companies, bought the 2.7-acre sprawling property of Limbaugh&#8217;s — which consists of three homes — for $155 million, the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/william-lauder-paid-155-million-for-rush-limbaughs-palm-beach-estate-7aa1cc0e">Wall Street Journal</a> reported. In February 2021, the legendary radio host died of lung cancer at the age of 70.
Limbaugh&#8217;s widow and fourth wife, Kathryn Adams Limbaugh, sold the estate after shopping it off-market for eight months, the <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/03/11/william-lauder-revealed-as-buyer-of-rush-limbaughs-155m-palm-beach-estate/">New York Post</a> noted.
The post previously reported that the estate with addresses — 1495 North Ocean Boulevard, 1501 North Ocean Boulevard, and 108 Mediterranean Road — were purchased with an anonymous LLC.

The voice behind the Golden EIB microphone purchased the main property in 1998 for $3.9 million, the outlet noted. At the time, Rush was married to his third wife, Marta Fitzgerald.
The couple divorced in 2004. In 2010, he and Kathryn tied the knot at the Palm Beach estate. Limbaugh later bought four properties to create the ocean-front estate through a trust linked to his widow, the <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/rush-limbaughs-widow-sells-their-palm-beach-home-for-155-million-to-billionaire-estee-lauder-heir">Washington Examiner</a> noted.
The late-conservative radio commentator&#8217;s property is described as having 250 feet of oceanfront views, a 24,000-square-foot mansion, a &#8220;scaled-down version&#8221; of the two-story Biltmore Estate library in North Carolina, a home radio studio for Limbaugh&#8217;s broadcasts, a private beach, a guard station for 24-hour security services, and more, the Post noted.
Kathryn appeared on the &#8220;Rush Limbaugh Show&#8221; in 2021 and announced his passing to listeners the day he died.
&#8220;I know that I am most certainly not the Limbaugh that you tuned in to listen to today. I, like you, very much wish Rush was behind this golden microphone right now, welcoming you to another exceptional three hours of broadcasting,&#8221; Limbaugh&#8217;s widow told listeners.

Writer and conservative political commentator David Limbaugh sat down with Daily Wire host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ep-1096-woke-news-outlet-is-not-sure-if-gay-incest-is-wrong-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Knowles</a> Tuesday to discuss his new book about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jesus-christ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jesus Christ</a>, and how it applies to the church and culture today.
Limbaugh’s newest book that he co-authored with his daughter Christen Limbaugh Bloom, “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Resurrected-Jesus-David-Limbaugh/dp/1621579891" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Resurrected Jesus</a>,” is the final title in Limbaugh’s bestselling “Jesus” series. In his latest edition, Limbaugh seeks to show the “irrefutable proof” of Christ’s resurrection. The brother of the late conservative radio icon <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/rush-limbaugh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rush Limbaugh</a> told Knowles that his book is relevant because the culture has been destroyed by leftism and needs to be called back to the eternal truths of Scripture.
“We are seeing the glorification of evil. We’re seeing the celebration of abortion, the murder of babies, not just the reluctant abortion, safe, legal or not, we’re seeing the glorification of it and the demonization of anyone who opposes it, anyone who champions life we have lost our compass, our moral compass, and the Bible sends us back to it. So to that extent, it’s relevant today,” Limbaugh said.

Knowles and Limbaugh discussed how many modern churches have exchanged the meaningful truths of Christ’s gospel for a more “woke” form of Christianity influenced by the political Left.
“It’s shameful. It’s disgraceful. The Americans have become so liberal and just diluted the gospel to the point of it’s unrecognizable, you know, it’s woke and all that stuff,” Limbaugh commented.
Knowles then explained that Limbaugh&#8217;s book focuses on the spread of the early church and that it’s easy to be disheartened comparing the success of the church after Christ’s resurrection to what appears to be a church failing in many areas today. The Daily Wire host mentioned a recent Pew Research study that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/american-christian-population-projected-to-drop-below-50-by-2070" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggested</a> the Christian population in America could drop below 50% by 2070.
As of 2020, the Pew Center estimated that about 64% of Americans are affiliated as Christian. People identifying as “nones” or religiously unaffiliated included 30% of the population, with other religious groups, such as Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists representing the other 6%.
The Christian writer said that Christianity has been diluted with other belief systems in America, leading to the decreasing Christian influence on society, and in turn, a more liberal culture.
“I think you have syncretism, the combination of pagan beliefs with Christian beliefs and mixing it together,” Limbaugh said.

The asking price for Rush Limbaugh&#8217;s former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/florida">Palm Beach</a> home is reportedly starting at a whopping $150 million.
Limbaugh, the legendary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/conservatism">conservative</a> radio host, passed away on February 17, 2021. His <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/housing">waterfront home</a> in the wealthy Florida county is now owned by a trust connected with his widow, Kathryn Adams Limbaugh.
The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/rush-limbaughs-palm-beach-home-aims-to-sell-for-150-million-to-175-million-11657812955">reported</a> Thursday that Limbaugh purchased the home in 1998 for $3.9 million. Now, according to the paper, the home could sell for as high as $175 million, which would be one of the highest home sales ever in Palm Beach.
“The Rush Limbaugh Show” was first nationally syndicated on the radio in 1988. It spent 33 years on the air and grew into a nationally syndicated show on more than 600 stations, tallying nearly 27 million weekly listeners. He also published multiple best-selling books.
Limbaugh&#8217;s widow announced his death in 2021 by thanking his fans and expressing his gratitude for America via Facebook.
“We, the Limbaugh family, are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Rush has died,” Adams Limbaugh <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rush-limbaughs-death-certificate-says-greatest-radio-host-of-all-time">said</a> in a statement at the time. “Rush Hudson Limbaugh III will forever be the greatest of all time, a courageous, brilliant gentle giant and radio pioneer. Our entire family is so thankful to everyone who prayed and cared for Rush, especially the audience he adored. Rush’s love for our country, and for all of you, will live on eternally.”
During the 2020 State of the Union, then President Donald J. Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rush-limbaugh-a-look-back-at-the-man-who-became-the-voice-of-conservatism">awarded</a> Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom shortly after Limbaugh announced that he had lung cancer.
“Almost every American family knows the pain when a loved one is diagnosed with a serious illness,” Trump said during the speech. “Here tonight is a special man, beloved by millions of Americans who just received a Stage 4 advanced cancer diagnosis. This is not good news, but what is good news is that he is the greatest fighter and winner that you will ever meet. Rush Limbaugh, thank you for your decades of tireless devotion to our country.”
“Rush, in recognition of all that you have done for our nation, the millions of people a day that you speak to and that you inspire, and all of the incredible work that you have done for charity, I am proud to announce tonight that you will be receiving our country’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom,” Trump continued. “I will now ask the first lady of the United States to present you with the honor.”
In 2009, Limbaugh gave one of his most famous speeches ever in defense of conservative principles at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C.
“We love people,” he explained. “When we look out over the United States of America, when we are anywhere, when we see a group of people, such as this or anywhere, we see Americans. We see human beings. We don’t see groups. We don’t see victims. We don’t see people we want to exploit. What we see — what we see is potential. We do not look out across the country and see the average American, the person that makes this country work. We do not see that person with contempt. We don’t think that person doesn’t have what it takes. We believe that person can be the best he or she wants to be if certain things are just removed from their path like onerous taxes, regulations, and too much government.&#8221;
The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/rush-limbaughs-palm-beach-home-aims-to-sell-for-150-million-to-175-million-11657812955">added</a> that the main house on Limbaugh&#8217;s Palm Beach property is roughly 24,000 square feet and was mostly decorated by the late radio host himself.

A resurfaced clip of late radio icon Rush Limbaugh&#8217;s broadcast hit social media last week as legacy media finally started to confirm contents from Hunter Biden&#8217;s laptop.
Limbaugh, in a clip of December 2020, asserted that President Joe Biden would &#8220;serve at the pleasure of Barack Obama,&#8221; predicting that the media would turn on Biden and start to reliably report on the Biden family&#8217;s questionable business dealings when Obama and leading Democrats thought he was doing too much damage.
&#8220;They cannot be critical of Biden,&#8221; Limbaugh <a href="https://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2020/12/15/joe-biden-will-serve-at-the-pleasure-of-obama/">said</a> of legacy media on his radio broadcast. &#8220;They will not be critical of Biden. They’re gonna prop up Biden until, until — I’m gonna tell you, folks, I think we’re seeing enough information on the Bidens now to safely say that Biden will serve at the pleasure of Barack Obama.&#8221;
&#8220;If Obama gives the green light to Democrats to take Biden out, there will be ample evidence that Biden has lied about his knowledge his family was selling his name and office with his permission, and if that’s in fact the case, then there’s likely unreported money that will be found,&#8221; Limbaugh said.
&#8220;The fake news media will temporarily become hard news media if the decision is made that Biden has to step down,&#8221; the host predicted. &#8220;Until that time, they will be covering for Biden, they’ll be making excuses for Biden, they’ll be ignoring all the negatives. You wait and see. And then watch what happens to their ratings when that happens.&#8221;

Notably, the story, first broken by the New York Post ahead of the 2020 presidential election, was widely dismissed by the mainstream media as fake news and even censored on Twitter:

The NY Post’s stories, published weeks before the 2020 election, were censored on social media and downplayed as likely products of Russian propaganda. At the time, neither Biden nor his father, now the President of the United States, claimed that the laptop or its contents were fake.</blockquote>
Former President Barack Obama also returned to the White House this week as Biden gets clobbered in the polls.
Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/podcasts/the-ben-shapiro-show/ep-1468-obama-comes-back-to-the-white-house-and-biden-becomes-the-red-headed-stepchild-again">suggested</a> Wednesday that it was a poorly-calculated attempt to save President Biden.
&#8220;The supposedly reason why Barack Obama was going back to the White House was so that Joe Biden could announce moves to strengthen Obamacare,&#8221; Shapiro <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/podcasts/the-ben-shapiro-show/ep-1468-obama-comes-back-to-the-white-house-and-biden-becomes-the-red-headed-stepchild-again">said</a> on his podcast. &#8220;But the real reason is because they&#8217;re tying to see if some of the magic of Barack Obama can rub off on Joe Biden.&#8221;
Shapiro dismissed the apparent effort as futile. &#8220;He was a unicorn,&#8221; the bestselling author said of Obama, noting that Democrats got &#8220;shellacked&#8221; in Congress, in the Senate, in the state legislatures, and in gubernatorial races across the country when Obama was in office.

Our entire family is so thankful to everyone who prayed and cared for Rush, especially the audience he adored. Rush’s love for our country, and for all of you, will live on eternally.”
Supporters shared messages of support, marking the one-year anniversary of Limbaugh’s death.

‘I Can’t Believe It’s Been A Year’: Rush Limbaugh Remembered. ‘The Goat? It’s Definitely Rush’

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh’s producer, James Golden, who also goes by the pseudonym Bo Snerdley, revealed a story this week about how Limbaugh gave him a gift of $5,000 after he noticed the producer was in financial trouble.
Golden emphasized that the generous gift, which Limbaugh wanted kept between the two of them, came before Limbaugh was super wealthy and a household name, and when Golden was just &#8220;a black kid from Queens.&#8221;
Speaking to Fox News host &#8220;Tucker Carlson&#8221; during an episode of &#8220;Tucker Carlson Today,&#8221; Golden <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tv/CWrlJJsLkiQ/?utm_medium=copy_link">recalled</a> having to speak to personal creditors on the phone while he was at work. Limbaugh overheard him.
&#8220;Hey, James, can you come back in my office?&#8221; Limbaugh asked Golden at the time. &#8220;So listen, I don&#8217;t mean to pry, I don&#8217;t wanna get inside your business or anything, but I heard you on the phone. Is everything okay?&#8221;
Golden told Limbaugh how much he owed, $5,000, which the producer said is a lot of money to him now, and was especially back then.
&#8220;Don&#8217;t sweat it, everything is gonna be cool, everything is gonna work out,&#8221; Limbaugh told Golden.
&#8220;I get to work the next day,&#8221; the producer recalled to Carlson. &#8220;I want you to keep I mind, this is before Rush Limbaugh signed any big syndicated deals, this is before Rush Limbaugh-the-multi-millionaire, this is before Rush Limbaugh-I&#8217;m-on-the-track-to-blazing-success &#8212; this is before any of that. This is before there&#8217;s a Bo Snerdley, because Bo Snerdley didn&#8217;t exist then; this was James Golden, this black kid from Queens sitting in the newsroom, who used to take Rush&#8217;s stories,&#8221; Golden emphasized.
&#8220;So, the next day, I&#8217;m sitting in the newsroom, pulling stories again &#8212; in the intercom, it&#8217;s Rush. &#8216;Hey, James, can you come on in to the office for a second?'&#8221;
Golden went to the office and closed the door as instructed by Limbaugh. &#8220;Rush has an envelope. He pushed the envelope to me, he says, &#8216;Here.'&#8221;
&#8220;Inside it, there&#8217;s a check for $5,000,&#8221; Golden says, overcome with emotion. &#8220;What Rush said to me was, &#8216;I don&#8217;t want you to tell anybody about this, this is between you and me; this is not a loan, this is a gift, because good things need to happen to good people once in awhile.&#8221;
&#8220;You&#8217;re making me emotional,&#8221; Carlson told Golden.
Later in the interview, Golden said when Limbaugh revealed the news of his illness to the radio crew, he apologized. &#8220;He felt like [he] let [us] down,&#8221; the producer said.
“Tucker, he was one of the most exceptional human beings you could ever meet,&#8221; Golden asserted.
In February, Golden issued a statement of gratitude to Limbaugh’s supporters after the host was absent from the show all week. “Our prayers are with Rush as he continues to fight the illness he as been afflicted with,” he tweeted. “We are still praying for a remission. &#8230; Thanks for all of your prayers, kind words and wishes for our Rush. God Bless you.&#8221;
About a week later, after Limbaugh passed, the producer wrote, “God Bless you Rush. I love you. Always and ever.&#8221;

Bo Snerdley Makes Tucker Carlson ‘Emotional’ Revealing Story About Rush Limbaugh Before Money And Fame

A handful of callers on the air — and millions of listeners around the world — expressed their grief and gratitude as the final episode of “The Rush Limbaugh Show” aired on Friday afternoon, nearly four months after the death of its host. It was just two months short of its 33rd anniversary.
“I’d be lying if I didn’t say this wasn’t a little surreal,” said regular “guide host” Ken Matthews, who hosts a <a href="https://whp580.iheart.com/featured/ken-matthews/">talk radio show</a> in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, as the program opened.
Matthews praised Limbaugh’s resilience, as he continued to host the show nearly until his final day of consciousness.
“He fought until the end, literally until he did not have a voice. You could hear it,” Matthews said.
Since becoming nationally syndicated in August 1988, Limbaugh provided tens of millions of Americans with commentary that sounded like nothing else available on the air.
“These three hours of the day are the three hours of the day when life seems normal,” said Limbaugh in a clip aired in the first hour of Friday’s show.
Listeners flocked to Limbaugh not only because of his incisive wit and peerless voice, but also his humor and the show’s undeniable entertainment factor, Matthews said. “There was a cheerfulness and a graciousness” to Limbaugh’s personality. “That’s why there are so many people in the business, like me, who said, ‘I’m gonna do talk radio one day.’”
The final episode of the long-running show highlighted Limbaugh’s passions outside radio, including his love of music, sports, technology, and people of good cheer from all backgrounds. Since Rush was “a gracious gentleman,” he could be friends with Elton John, as well as William F. Buckley Jr. or Donald Trump.
“To me, that was the greatest takeaway of the Rush Limbaugh show: You could be a conservative and get along with anybody,” said Matthews.
A select group of Limbaugh’s fans, who dubbed themselves Dittoheads, called to share their memories of the true, undisputed king of talk radio.
A 10-year-old child who devoured Limbaugh’s “Rush Revere” line of books said that Rush’s “wisdom will live on, well, forever.”
The final segment of the show’s traditional “Open Line Friday” featured a call by Fred from New York, an orphan who discovered Rush Limbaugh’s voice when he tuned in to hear a traffic report.
Limbaugh was “the first positive male influence I ever had in my life,” he said.
The show helped the adult orphan forget bitter memories of “a state-run institution that just taught me negativity” and gave him “something positive to listen to no matter what was going on in my life.”
“I just can’t believe this is coming to an end,” he said.
Limbaugh’s frequent motivational speeches encouraged Fred to start a business and raise two successful children.
“I never had any positive male influence in my life beside Rush Limbaugh,” he said. Rush “has made me a proud man.”
Rush Limbaugh made millions of Americans proud of their own accomplishments, confident of their ability to make a living without relying on the government, and filled with patriotism for their country — all themes rejected by the legacy media.
“We are under assault from within by the American Left and the Democratic Party, but we persevere, because there are more of us who cherish the United States as founded,” said Limbaugh in another flashback played on Friday’s show.
“If there is a virus that is contagious, it is the mainstream media as it’s currently constituted. That’s the virus,” Rush said. “There is a poisoning of the American mind taking place. … EIB is an airborne phenomenon spread by casual contact, and it inoculates you; it cures you of this sickening disease.”
The seeds planted by three decades of conservatism will bear fruit for generations to come, Matthews said. “I think the awakening is legitimate. The media can’t turn this around,” he said.
“They don’t control the narrative anymore, because truth is better than any narrative,” he said. “I think common sense is gonna bring a lot of people to the conservative side.”
“I think in addition to the Republican Party never being the same again, thank God, the media will have some major changes that we will like,” Matthews said.
Big changes will certainly be coming to talk radio.
Since Limbaugh passed away on February 17 at the age of 70 from stage four lung cancer, the show has been helmed by a series of “guide hosts” who comment on the headlines before playing recordings of Limbaugh. Guides like Todd Herman or Brent Winterble were occasionally joined on the air by James “Bo Snerdley” Golden or Rush Limbaugh’s widow, Kathryn.
Golden — who now hosts his own, <a href="https://wabcradio.com/podcast/bo-snerdley-james-golden/">two-hour talk show</a> Saturday mornings on WABC — recorded his own podcast tribute in his resonant voice, “<a href="https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1119-rush-limbaugh-the-man-beh-81488209/">Rush Limbaugh: The Man Behind the Golden EIB Microphone</a>.”
Months after Limbaugh’s death, a network insider revealed that the show continued to attract “<a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/rush-limbaughs-radio-show-to-be-taken-over-by-clay-travis-and-buck-sexton-11622127616">75% to 80%</a>” of its 20 million-member audience.
But that will <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-rush-limbaughs-successor-named">come to an end on Monday</a>. “<a href="https://www.premierenetworks.com/shows/clay-travis-and-buck-sexton-show">The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show</a>” will air from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern time over Premiere Networks, a division of iHeart Radio.
Competition for conservative listeners include “<a href="https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1069-the-dan-bongino-show-28888454/">The Dan Bongino Show</a>,” “<a href="https://danaloesch.com/listen/">The Dana Show</a>” hosted by Dana Loesch, and “<a href="https://www.erickericksonshow.com/">The Erick Erickson Show</a>.”
Matthews promised the Travis/Sexton show will be “a new chapter in this love of America” exemplified by Rush Limbaugh the last 32 years of his life, as he wound down the program.
“It’s been an experience,” Matthews said as he closed the final segment. “I was doing pretty good” until being jarred by “the emotional attachment we all have to this man named Rush Limbaugh” by Fred’s call.
“Forever dittos, to you and to all of us,” Fred said.

Sexton, a former CIA agent turned radio talk show host, frequently filled in for Limbaugh during the latter years of Rush’s radio career in addition to <a href="https://www.iheart.com/podcast/139-buck-sexton-27296753/">hosting</a> “The Buck Sexton Show” on radio and &#8220;Hold The Line&#8221; at 7 p.m. weeknights on <a href="https://www.thefirsttv.com/">The First TV network</a>. Most recently, Travis has helmed <a href="https://foxsportsradio.iheart.com/featured/outkick-the-coverage-with-clay-travis/">Fox Sports</a>’ “Outkick the Coverage.”
“<a href="https://www.premierenetworks.com/shows/clay-travis-and-buck-sexton-show">The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show</a>” will begin airing from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern on June 21 over hundreds of radio stations affiliated with Premiere Networks, a part of iHeart Media Inc.
“While no one will ever replace Rush Limbaugh, Buck and I are excited to continue advancing the causes he held dear, most importantly American exceptionalism, a fervent embrace of capitalism, and a belief in a robust marketplace of ideas,” said Travis in a press release <a href="https://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/207891/clay-travis-buck-sexton-to-replace-the-rush-limbau">quoted</a> by AllAccess.com. “At a time of rabid cancel culture and toxic identity politics, we will be the voice for many who feel scared to say what they think for fear of the censorious online mob. We can’t wait to get started.”
“I could not be more thrilled — and am deeply humbled — by the opportunity to host this new program with Clay Travis,” said Sexton. “We think it’s important to carry on the tradition of Rush Limbaugh and bring truth to the masses. One thing I can promise all EIB listeners out there: we’re with them and we will always fight for them with the show Clay, and I do every day.”
From his national launch in 1988 until his death, Rush Limbaugh reigned as the undisputed king of talk radio, reaching 20 million listeners over 650 affiliates nationwide.
Since Limbaugh passed away on February 17 at the age of 70 from stage 4 lung cancer, his network has broadcast a series of “guides” who intersperse their own observations about the day’s news with archived recordings of Limbaugh.
“The program was attracting about 75% to 80% of its regular audience, according to a person familiar with the matter,” <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/rush-limbaughs-radio-show-to-be-taken-over-by-clay-travis-and-buck-sexton-11622127616">reported</a> the Wall Street Journal on Thursday.
The network promises the new show will “carry on a new form of broadcast excellence in the tradition of the late radio icon.”
“We’re not going to replace Rush Limbaugh,” <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/rush-limbaughs-radio-show-to-be-taken-over-by-clay-travis-and-buck-sexton-11622127616">said</a> <a href="https://www.premierenetworks.com/">Premiere Networks</a> President Julie Talbott. “We’re going to have an evolution of the show with fresh voices — those [who] grew up on Rush and admired him.”
Limbaugh’s death opened heavy competition for the most coveted slot in talk radio. In addition to Sexton and Travis, multiple hosts have rushed to fill the void for fresh content from noon to 3 p.m. Eastern.
On Monday, Fox News personality Dan Bongino <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dan-bongino-to-take-over-limbaughs-radio-time-slot">began</a> hosting “The Dan Bongino Show” over more than <a href="https://www.wfmz.com/news/pr_newswire/pr_newswire_entertainment/the-dan-bongino-show-debuts-may-24th-on-westwood-one/article_a7fc75f0-b07f-5608-9b5d-4f9f58f01663.html">115 affiliates</a> of Westwood One.
“This is an incredible privilege, and I pledge to honor the trailblazing work of those who came before me,” Bongino <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dan-bongino-to-take-over-limbaughs-radio-time-slot">said</a> when he inked the contract in March. Bongino, who is known for his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dan-bongino-and-geraldo-rivera-have-another-epic-meltdown-on-hannity">fiery</a> Fox News exchanges with Geraldo Rivera, launched his own <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-bongino-report-the-newest-conservative-news-aggregator">news aggregation</a> website, the <a href="https://bonginoreport.com/">Bongino Report</a>, to compete with the Drudge Report in 2019.
Dana Loesch, who was born in Limbaugh’s native Missouri, competed head-to-head against Rush for the early afternoon audience during his life. She <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dana-loesch-plans-to-continue-monetizing-the-hate-with-her-renewed-radio-contract">signed</a> a three-year renewal contract with Radio America last month.
“While no one will ever replace Rush, I welcome his loyal listeners to the Dana Show as we maintain his conservative convictions and principles in a fresh, dynamic way,” she said.
Evangelical author and talk show host Erick Erickson <a href="https://twitter.com/EWErickson/status/1397943257347280902">announced</a> Thursday that the local talk show he broadcasts over WSB-FM in Atlanta will be nationally syndicated by the Cox Media Group beginning at noon on Tuesday, June 1.
“I owe much of my career to Rush,” Erickson <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/erickson-my-friend-rush">wrote</a> shortly after Limbaugh’s death. “I’ve been working toward this for a very long time,” Erickson said on Thursday. “We look forward to continued success.”

His competitors may fight over his listeners, but there is one title they will never possess: Rush Limbaugh’s death certificate <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rush-limbaughs-death-certificate-says-greatest-radio-host-of-all-time">listed</a> his occupation as “greatest radio host of all time.”

Missouri’s Republican-led House of Representatives on Thursday approved legislation that would honor the late Rush Limbaugh, recognizing the syndicated conservative radio host every year on his birthday.
Limbaugh, originally from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, died of complications from lung cancer in February at the age of 70.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch <a href="https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/the-missouri-house-approves-rush-limbaugh-day-after-saying-no-to-walter-cronkite-day/article_e03ffa09-b000-523a-a098-1ffeebb33387.html">reported</a> the proposal would designate each January 12, Limbaugh’s birthday, as “Rush Limbaugh Day” in Missouri, noting, “the measure must receive approval from the Senate before the end of the legislative session next Friday,” which is also controlled by the GOP. According to the outlet, the vote followed a failed “Democratic-led effort to designate Jan. 13 as ‘Walter Cronkite Day,’ after the Missouri native and broadcast journalist who anchored the CBS Evening News.”
“Rush Limbaugh’s contributions to broadcasting and the conservative movement cannot be overstated. He was, simply put, a legend who cannot be replaced,” state Rep. Hardy Billington, a Republican from Poplar Bluff who sponsored the measure, had <a href="https://www.kmbc.com/article/state-representative-hardy-billington-files-bill-to-recognize-rush-limbaugh-day-in-missouri/35568864">said</a> previously. “This is one way we can recognize the outstanding impact Rush Limbaugh has had on our state and country.”
Some Democrats spoke out against memorializing Limbaugh with an official state designation, including Rep. Ashley Bland Manlove from Kansas City, who issued a statement accusing the late entertainment icon of “constant attacks on Black people and other people of color.” They said Billington had added the proposal to an underlying bill addressing several official designations, like honoring famous black Missourians and establishing a day to celebrate random acts of kindness.
The Post-Dispatch reported that Democrats “cited decades of racist, misogynistic and homophobic statements by Limbaugh as reasons he should not be honored.”
“Have you ever heard him say any negative things on the radio about any race or another?” Rep. Jerome Barnes, a Democrat from Raytown, reportedly asked Billington.
“To me, he had been an outstanding deal; he had done so many great things,” Billington said, according to The Post-Dispatch. “Now I think I told you before he probably had not been perfect by no means of the imagination but he had done an outstanding job.”

Losing Rush has been tough. Until a few very long weeks ago, he was always in my life. Like other siblings growing up in the same home, we shared experiences that were exclusive to us. Our parents instilled in us — and we thoroughly absorbed — their Christian values: their love of God; their unconditional love for each other and for us; their belief in moral absolutes, of truth, of right and wrong; the paramount importance of family; the critical necessity of personal character and integrity; the value of human life; and the uncompromising duty to treat others with respect and compassion. No one perfectly succeeds in living out these godly values, but our parents equipped us, lovingly disciplined us and guided us.
Though Rush is now known to the world as a consummate talker, what is not widely known is that he didn&#8217;t start that way. He was first a listener — an information sponge, quietly inhaling knowledge at the feet of our dad.
Rush was initially unassuming, respectful, and focused, as if dedicating the first part of his life to acquiring the building blocks that would later serve him and the millions he was to touch when he would grow to full intellectual and professional maturity.
From an early age, Rush was an avid reader, and he devoured the set of children&#8217;s classics our dad provided and encouraged us to read, accumulating a knowledge of life, human trials and tribulations, and the way the world works.
Like our World War II fighter pilot dad, Rush loved aviation, even as a young kid. I lament that our dad didn&#8217;t live to fly on the various jets Rush purchased by using the very knowledge and skills he acquired from him and our mom.
We loved baseball, and Rush was good at it. He had home-run power and became a good pitcher, not through an abundance of natural talent but by teaching himself how to throw curve balls, sliders, and even knuckleballs, which he tried to teach me.
Almost everyone in our hometown of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. But in a foreshadowing of his mischievous independence, Rush was a superfan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and in particular their shortstop, base-stealing phenom Maury Wills. Rush was obsessed with Wills&#8217; base-stealing acumen and wanted to emulate it. He was intrigued that Wills could reach full speed on his second step down the baseline, and Rush diligently worked on developing that for himself. We didn&#8217;t go on many vacations as kids, but we went to a lot of baseball games in St. Louis and almost always when the Dodgers were in St. Louis for a series. Rush was so enamored with Wills that he wrote him a letter requesting an autographed picture, which I remembered when I serendipitously found the picture in my house during this last, very difficult year.
Rush practiced his skills as a broadcaster while turning down the volume on the television as we watched baseball games so he could call the games himself. Later, our parents gave him a Remco Caravelle, a toy that enabled him to broadcast on the actual radio airwaves within our home. Our mom and I logged many hours listening to his first days as a disc jockey and sports announcer.
Let&#8217;s now fast-forward to his time in his adopted hometown of Sacramento, California, in the late &#8217;80s. He mainly loved that city because it was where he came into his own as a broadcast professional after so many fits and starts, simply because he found a program director with the wisdom and courage to let Rush be Rush.
I was struck by how much he brought our parents to life in the practice of his art — exhibiting their qualities, talents and values. Rush was blessed with the best of both. He was Rush and Millie writ large.
Our mother was a comic, a singer, a natural ham, and an entertainer; our dad was unusually brilliant, the small college national debate champion, a lawyer&#8217;s lawyer, and the guy who would hold court in our living room to the fascination of our friends. But he never had the national platform that Rush would carve out for himself. Rush did our parents proud in a way that is indescribably gratifying to me.
As few others do, Rush lived life his way, and the world is immensely better because of his contributions. He was the tip of the spear from day one and took tidal waves of abuse from hateful leftists who devoted their lives to destroying him — and they failed. Rush was responsible not for the development of modern conservatism but for its explosion into the mainstream of American life. He paved the path for so many other great conservatives. The nation — and all of us — owe him deeply for this. He single-handedly resurrected AM talk radio.
Rush particularly inspired me to be the best I could be in both my law practice and my writing career. He entrusted me to handle his entertainment contracts and encouraged me to write columns and books. He pushed me to excel in both professions.
Rush was loving and unfailingly generous — the best brother, the best brother-in-law, the best uncle and the best cousin we could have had. In the weeks following his death, I have felt a deep and profound loss. We were in constant communication, supporting each other to the end. Every day since he died, I steadily find myself wanting to share something with him and instantly realize I can&#8217;t and will not be able to again until we meet in heaven. That hurts.
But I thank God for Rush&#8217;s faith in Jesus Christ and for receiving him into a much better place, one with no more death, mourning, crying or pain.
One of the last things I said to Rush when he was still conscious and able to interact was, &#8220;I love you.&#8221; He looked at me and replied: &#8220;I love you, too. Big time.&#8221;
Goodbye, big brother. Thank you for being you and for being there for me all your life. I am so, so grateful for you — and may God bless you forever and hold you in His loving arms.
