“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” just pulled in impressive box office numbers despite being trashed by the critics.
The follow-up to 2023’s smash hit “Super Mario Bros. Movie” from lllumination Studios and Nintendo earned $130.9 million over the weekend and $190.1 million in its first five days, per <a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-mario-galaxy-movie-box-office-58b52a8aa469d6e7fed889c6762dd3aa">Associated Press</a>. It’s not surprising, considering that it’s a family-friendly title with massive name recognition being released over a holiday weekend.
It’s worth noting, however, that the sequel was given a 41% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a markedly better 89% audience rating.
“We all have a finite amount of time on this Earth, and I cannot think of a single reason why you should spend any of yours on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” the critic from Mashable <a href="https://mashable.com/article/super-mario-galaxy-movie-review">wrote</a>.
Wall Street Journal reviewer Kyle Smith <a href="https://www.wsj.com/arts-culture/film/the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-review-the-plumbers-pump-their-brand-f3291bbc">advised</a> that it was “notably weaker” than the first film, which was itself “barely watchable.” The New York Times, meanwhile, lamented the “flat empty nothingness” of the narrative.
The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/mar/31/the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-review-sequel-video-game-chris-pratt-charlie-day">described it</a> as &#8220;a bland screensaver of a movie that’s actually worse than AI&#8221; in his 1-star review. Kevin Maher from The Times also didn&#8217;t mince words, <a href="https://www.thetimes.com/culture/film/article/super-mario-galaxy-movie-review-5w6crmhgr">asking</a> if the kids movie marked &#8220;the end of cinema.&#8221; 
&#8220;&#8230;the film is torturous to sit through and, for me, provoked periods of actual physical discomfort,&#8221; the critic added.
The video game-themed film features the same voice actors behind the original, including Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Day. “Mario ventures into space, exploring cosmic worlds and tackling galactic challenges far from the familiar Mushroom Kingdom,” the logline says.
It opened across 4,252 theaters over Easter weekend, including 421 IMAX screens.
“It’s exactly the kind of broad, crowd-pleasing release that brings people into theaters,” AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron said in a statement, per AP.
While critics came after it for not having enough depth, other viewers say that’s what made the movie so successful.
“A bright, colorful, and action packed story filled with all the Nintendo characters we know and love. It’s simply a good time at the movies,” one verified Rotten Tomatoes reviewer said.
“If you enjoyed the first you’ll be at home. If you want a Pixar movie with sad bits and life lessons and shoe in adult jokes you ain’t getting it here. It’s a fun ride start to end,” another agreed.
“This is a kids movie. I don&#8217;t know what fantastical storytelling these adults need from a child&#8217;s video game adaptation but it&#8217;s entertaining and light…. Let the kids be kids, these movies don&#8217;t have to be masterpieces and they don&#8217;t have to pander to childish adults who just refuse [to]  grow up. Mario belongs to children, not to your generation,” echoed a third.

Several reviews compared the film to Nazi propaganda. One critic gave “Melania” a “rotten” score at Rotten Tomatoes while admitting <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/melania-reviews-critic-didnt-watch/">he never actually saw the film</a>. (That review was quickly removed from the critical aggregator site)

The Guardian’s review compared the movie to <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/jan/30/melania-review-trump-film-is-a-gilded-trash-remake-of-the-zone-of-interest">2024’s “The Zone of Interest.”</a> That well-received drama depicted a Nazi family living next door to a concentration camp.
The reviewer didn’t stop there, mocking FLOTUS’s face and voice, a no-no in critical circles. Review the film, not the physical attributes of the people on screen. When a Variety scribe suggested actress Carey Mulligan wasn’t pretty enough to play the femme fatale in 2020’s “Promising Young Woman,” the outlet <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2021/jan/28/variety-apology-carey-mulligan-film-critics">uttered an apology</a> directly to the actress.
For some reason, that unwritten rule didn’t apply to “Melania.” Nor should FLOTUS expect an apology any time soon.
The chasm between movie critics and general audiences over “Melania” may be the new, startling benchmark. Rotten Tomatoes lists the film as having a 7% “Rotten” score from movie scribes and <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/melania">a 99 percent “fresh”</a> rating from the public at large.
Those blistering critiques, delivered by a film body that leans overwhelmingly to the Left, were just part of the media’s war on “Melania.”
The said war began before “Melania” hit American theaters on January 30. Outlet after outlet preened over reports of <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/movies/articles/melania-trump-promotes-film-amid-210206431.html">poor pre-release ticket sales</a>. So did <a href="https://www.aol.com/lifestyle/stephen-colbert-roasts-melania-documentary-144531012.html">Stephen Colbert of “The Late Show” fame.</a>
Empty theaters, reporters cried, suggested “Melania” would underperform even modest expectations. It did the opposite, earning north of $7 million in its opening frame. Recent documentaries made far, far less.

For context, most documentaries are lucky to earn $1 million in theaters. “Melania,” media voices argued, might not make it to the $3 million mark. And, with a gaudy $40 million price tag courtesy of Jeff Bezos’ Amazon, that’s a debacle.
Except “Melania” delivered the biggest <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/insight/melania-opens-with-decade-best-documentary-debut/gm-8AE15378FA?gemSnapshotKey=8AE15378FA-snapshot-4&amp;ocid=AARDHP">documentary debut in a decade</a>. The film <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2026/02/05/nolte-exclusive-melania-gains-more-box-office-steam-with-wednesdays-1-25-million-haul/">has kept earning since then</a>.

USA Today argued it’s <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/columnist/2026/01/30/melania-movie-amazon-documentary-trump/88415378007/">“patriotic” to slam “Melania</a>.”
To be the subject of a documentary, one would think you’d have to accomplish something beyond being a complicit grifter in two of the most cruel, dishonest, and dangerous presidential terms in American history.
Indiewire said the film’s box office success <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/features/commentary/melania-box-office-documentary-filmmakers-worried-1235177403/">is terrible news for the documentary genre</a>.  Suddenly, a rising tide doesn’t lift all boats.
It’s a scary time for documentarians. Will they have to start working with the likes of Brett Ratner to make infomercials that please Donald Trump to pay the bills? The success of “Melania” suggests they might.
Meanwhile, a news media landscape that routinely decries review bombing – the practice of slagging a film or TV show sight unseen due to a variety of pre-release complaints, like overt wokeness – suddenly <a href="https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2026/01/melania-documentary-reviews-deleted-letterboxd/">cheered on review bombing of “Melania.”</a>
NPR needed something negative to share about the film. So it dug into the demographic breakdown of movie patrons and determined a large number of <a href="https://www.npr.org/2026/02/02/nx-s1-5693775/melania-documentary-box-office-audience">older white women</a> lined up to see “Melania.”
How often do media outlets report on the demographics of a given film? Hint: Not very often. NPR likely sought to portray the film’s fan base as overwhelmingly white (with a touch of supremacy?)
A few outlets have thrown all credibility to the wind to savage “Melania.” The far-Left Daily Beast took the crown here. The site has repeatedly called the film a “<a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-desperately-tries-to-juice-melania-doc-after-box-office-flop/">flop,”</a> although it’s on pace to pass 2024’s “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/am-i-racist?elementPosition=1&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Shows+and+Movies&amp;rowType=Portrait+Show+Carousel">Am I Racist?</a>” as the most successful documentary of the last decade.

“Melania” expands its release pattern in its second weekend, upping the theatrical count to 2,000 screens. Even if the film underperforms from here, the theatrical release has done its job.
Amazon likely viewed the film all along as a Prime Video draw, first and foremost. The documentary will draw attention and eyeballs to the streaming service, giving it a competitive title in a cutthroat streaming landscape. The film’s theatrical bow is an extended promotion for its final, digital destination.
Why all the unprofessional hate? The <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/politics-news/melania-trump-brett-ratner-documentary-interview-1236489826/">First Lady may have said it best</a> at the premiere of her own movie.
“Superior storytelling drives culture and in turn moves markets.”
Legacy Media outlets fear a conservative encroachment on their turf most of all.

After an incredible opening weekend, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/am-i-racist">Am I Racist?</a>,” the new movie starring <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/matt-walsh">Matt Walsh</a> going deep undercover into the world of DEI, has achieved the honor of “Verified Hot” on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/rotten-tomatoes">Rotten Tomatoes</a>.
The popular review site recently changed their rating system to include the “Popcornmeter,” which gives a special ranking to reviewers who are verified to have purchased tickets to the film they’re reviewing. 
A movie must receive a verified audience score of 90% or higher on the Popcornmeter to receive an official Verified Hot badge and must have a minimum of 500 Verified Ratings for films in wide release and a minimum of 250 Verified Ratings for limited releases to qualify for the Popcornmeter, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rotten-tomatoes-adds-new-popcornmeter-rating-for-reviewers-who-purchased-tickets">reported</a>.
Mainstream critics have completely ignored the film, while the critics who have reviewed it gave “Am I Racist?” favorable reviews. 
“Matt Walsh swiftly and entertainingly exposes the race-industry for the crazy charlatan grift that it is,” one reviewer <a href="https://mattsmoviereviews.net/movie-critic-reviews/am-i-racist.html">wrote</a>. 
Another agreed, <a href="http://nycmovieguru.com/sept13th24.html#amiracist">writing</a>, “A bold, provocative and outrageously funny documentary. Regardless of where you stand politically, Am I Racist? will be an eye-opening experience that will change the way you look at anti-racists and racism in America.”
The audience score was sitting at an impressive 99% as of Sunday night with well over 500 verified reviews. Moviegoers almost unanimously agreed that Walsh’s latest project is hilarious, important, and poised to help take down the DEI industry.
“Completely entertaining…entire theater laughing hysterically…while also engaging with an important social issue. Tough to pull off…and they pulled it off,” one reviewer wrote. 
“Brilliant. Very uncomfortable in spots, but very hilarious in others. We need more of this type of film making on all societal issues,” a second person agreed.
“Loved the movie. Changed the way I think about things. It’s been awhile since a movie made me laugh out loud,” a third reviewer echoed.
Even liberals who disagree with Walsh’s politics are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-must-see-even-liberals-raving-about-matt-walshs-am-i-racist">saying</a> “Am I Racist?” is worth seeing. 
“Liberal up in Canada, increasingly holding my nose as I vote for Trudeau. Honestly man, it’s surprisingly good. I was REALLY surprised that Matt Walsh could do the Borat thing. Sacha Baron Cohen spent YEARS perfecting the art. But, by the end of film, the comparison is in fact warranted,” a Reddit user wrote of the movie. 
“The film is hilarious and worth watching, especially if you’ve been on the wrong side of one of these grifters despite allegedly being in the same team.”

Even people who don’t agree with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/matt-walsh">Matt Walsh</a> say his movie is a must-watch.
The Daily Wire podcast host’s new project “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/am-i-racist">Am I Racist?</a>” is a huge hit on its opening weekend, debuting in the number three position and outearning Lionsgate’s “The Killer’s Game,” which was the second-biggest new release of the day.

The documentary had the third-highest opening day gross for a documentary in the last decade, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/am-i-racist-opens-as-third-highest-grossing-film-in-the-country">reported</a>.
So far mainstream critics have mostly ignored the film’s existence even as viewers flock to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/rotten-tomatoes">Rotten Tomatoes</a> to rave about it. As of Sunday afternoon, “Am I Racist?” has a <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/am_i_racist/reviews?type=verified_audience">99% audience score</a> on the site, with more than 500 verified reviewers weighing in. 
The most surprising feedback comes from several moviegoers who admit that even if they disagree with Walsh on other points, they were fans of the film. Many of these reviews came from the Reddit subthread <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/boxoffice/comments/1fgdmp6/am_i_racist_gets_an_a_on_cinemascore/">r/boxoffice</a>.
“Saw it yesterday. I&#8217;m not a Matt Walsh fan, but I really enjoyed it,” one person wrote. “It&#8217;s not making claims like ‘Racism doesn&#8217;t exist’ or anything like that. It&#8217;s all about exposing the anti-racist and DEI grifters who profit off of nonsense. Right wing Borat is a pretty accurate statement, but I honestly found this to be a lot funnier than Borat 2.” 
“Even if you don&#8217;t like Walsh I think you should give it a chance, it&#8217;s really not as political as I think many would expect it to be,” the reviewer added.
“Democrat who disagrees with matt walsh on everything but saw movie anyways with a trumper friend, it&#8217;s HILARIOUS,” another person wrote. “Most I&#8217;ve laughed in a theater in ages. It&#8217;s not like &#8216;what is a woman,&#8217; it&#8217;s really not a political &#8216;takedown&#8217; with any serious interviews or political stumping. It&#8217;s a straight up borat where the main character is more like larry david in curb your enthusiasm, goes around pretending to be an unintentional a**hole and creating tons of hilariously cringe and awkward situations.”
The Redditor added, “Having seen &#8216;what is a woman,&#8217; I was very surprised at the comparative lack of political commentary or serious interviews. It&#8217;s literally just right wing borat, and similarly hilarious.”

“Am I Racist?” which premiered Friday, outgrossed Lionsgate’s “The Killer’s Game,” and was the second-biggest new release of the day. “Am I Racist?,” one of only 15 documentaries ever to open in over 1,500 theaters, also had the third-highest opening day gross for a documentary in the last decade.

Audiences are raving about the film, in which Walsh goes deep undercover to expose the inner workings of the diversity, equity, and inclusion industry. The film has a <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/am_i_racist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">99%</a> Rotten Tomatoes audience score, and earned an <a href="https://www.cinemascore.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“A” rating from CinemaScore</a>, which grades movies based on audience response. No other new release received an A.
By the end of its second day in theaters, “Am I Racist?” will already be the biggest documentary of the year.

Ninety-five percent of audience members said “Am I Racist?” met or exceeded their expectations, according to PostTrak exit polling. Nearly 70% of viewers said the film was “excellent,” and 57% said they would tell their friends to see it in a theater.
Just over 40% of opening day viewers were under 35. And nearly 40% of the opening day audience was non-white, a fact that may come as a shock to anti-racist activist Saira Rao, who has privately <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/saira-rao-privately-slams-am-i-racist-as-nazi-white-supremacy-film?topStoryPosition=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slammed</a> “Am I Racist?” as a “Nazi White Supremacy Film.”
Rao is one of several anti-racist activists featured in the film. Another, “White Fragility” author Robin DiAngelo, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/robin-diangelo-breaks-am-i-racist-silence-says-she-got-played-by-borat-style-mockumentary" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told followers</a> that she got played by the “Borat-style mockumentary.” In the film, Walsh convinces DiAngelo to pay his black producer $30 out of her purse as reparations for slavery.
DiAngelo says that “Am I Racist?” is “designed to humiliate and discredit anti-racist educators and activists.” Walsh responded to her critique on X, saying, “She couldn’t be more correct in that assessment.”

‘Am I Racist?’ Opens As Third-Highest Grossing Film In The Country

***WARNING: Although the historical events that took place throughout President Ronald Reagan&#8217;s life are well-documented, this article may contain spoilers with regard to the framing and overall presentation of the film.***
The political Left does not appear to want the American people to see &#8220;Reagan&#8221; — at least, not until after the 2024 presidential election is settled.
Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dennis-quaid-says-facebook-is-censoring-the-free-flow-of-ideas-throttling-reagan-movie-promos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dennis Quaid</a>, who portrays the titular president, said weeks ago that Facebook was &#8220;throttling advertising and promotion&#8221; for the film, &#8220;once again censoring the free flow of ideas, deciding what’s best for us to see and hear.&#8221;
It&#8217;s true that the American Left never liked Reagan, which could be reason enough for some to think it worth scuttling a movie about him. But after seeing the film myself — and some of the reactions to it — I realized that it goes much deeper than that. They don&#8217;t just hate Reagan the president: they hate Reagan the man. What&#8217;s more, they hate everyone who values the things Reagan stood for, the things that drove him.
Full disclosure: I was a child of the Reagan years. Born in 1979, I never really saw the havoc wrought by President Jimmy Carter&#8217;s administration. The first political speech I remember was Reagan&#8217;s address to the nation in the wake of the Challenger disaster in 1986. I watched the explosion live from my first-grade classroom and saw my teacher quietly crying at her desk — and later, at home, I watched as the president paid solemn tribute to the lives lost in that tragedy. I was eight years old when, just over a year later, I watched Reagan stand in front of the Brandenburg Gate and forcefully urge Mr. Gorbachev to &#8220;tear down this wall!&#8221;
That was all I knew of American presidents, and so that became what I expected of American presidents: someone who could speak with sincerity and solemnity to a nation in pain, but also someone who showed no fear in the face of adversaries on the world stage. I saw flickers of those same things from President George W. Bush in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Now, the Left is terrified that people will notice those things are not to be found in Vice President Kamala Harris — and even more terrified that they just might see them in former President Donald Trump. That&#8217;s where the &#8220;Reagan&#8221; movie fits in: whether intentionally or not, it draws parallels that are difficult to ignore and even more difficult to explain away.
<h4>They don&#8217;t want a president staying strong in the face of an assassination attempt top of mind.</h4>
The movie begins with a literal &#8220;bang,&#8221; the March 30, 1981 attempt on Reagan&#8217;s life. We get Reagan&#8217;s quip to his wife, Nancy — &#8220;Honey, I forgot to duck&#8221; — and to his surgeons — &#8220;I hope you&#8217;re all Republicans.&#8221;
&#8220;Today, Mr. President, we are all Republicans,&#8221; was the reply from Dr. Joseph Giordano, a liberal Democrat.
Trump may not have lost half of his blood volume when he was shot in the head on July 13th, as Reagan did in 1981. But Trump&#8217;s immediate response to the shooting, despite Secret Service attempts to keep him under cover, was to stand and show his supporters that he was okay. He raised his fist, shouting, &#8220;Fight! Fight! Fight!&#8221; before agents were able to usher him off the stage.
He later described the moment he knew he&#8217;d been hit, saying that at first, it felt like &#8220;a really big <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-bullet-felt-like-mosquito-bite-turning-his-head-saved-his-life-bret-baier" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mosquito</a>.&#8221;
<h4>They don&#8217;t want you seeing value in an unorthodox leader who sometimes ignores his closest advisors.</h4>
Whatever else could be said about Reagan, he had his own negotiating style — whether with foreign leaders, an adversarial Congress, or his own advisors. One of the great examples of this is his Brandenburg Gate speech. His advisors warned him not to unnecessarily provoke Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev, with whom he had been discussing nuclear disarmament, by demanding the destruction of the Berlin Wall.
But Reagan, with just a year left in his second term, did so anyway. Two years later, the wall came down. Two years after that, the Soviet Union was no more.
The comparison here is obvious. Trump is nothing if not unorthodox, and he often does or says things against the wishes of his advisors — sometimes with more success than others. A reminder that unorthodoxy can be both necessary and effective is not something the Left wants voters thinking about when they head to the polls.
<h4>They really don&#8217;t want you to remember what it was like to have a man of faith in the Oval Office.</h4>
In American politics, we are accustomed to politicians who go to church for the optics. The current president, for example, often talks about his deep and abiding Catholic faith — and although we do see him attending Mass, we also see him making the Sign of the Cross at an abortion rally. We see him embracing the Pope, but inviting trans-identifying influencers to attend White House events with children present.
Reagan was different, on a number of levels. He rarely attended church while he was president — not because he didn&#8217;t want to, but because he worried that attending the service would disrupt the service at best, and endanger his fellow worshipers at worst.
Still, Reagan&#8217;s faith was what planted the seed that blossomed into the president&#8217;s lifelong crusade against communism — a crusade that began when in Hollywood and came to fruition in the White House. As a young man, Reagan sat in the congregation and listened intently as a Soviet dissident explained that the first thing the communists took was their churches. For Reagan, who had always seen church as a refuge from a tumultuous home life, that was a bridge too far.
<h4>They really, REALLY don&#8217;t want you thinking about the enduring threat of socialism.</h4>
In the movie, Reagan mentions the summer he spent as a lifeguard on a river, and explains how he learned to &#8220;read the currents,&#8221; both on the surface and beneath it. Sometimes, he said of the people he rescued on that river, &#8220;I knew they were in trouble before they did.&#8221;
That ability translated to politics, giving Reagan an ability to read the currents driving both global politics and culture — and to predict how they might interact.
Trump has been less effective at this so far, but he has made it clear that he sees the threat of socialism — and that he knows it is coming, at least in part, from within the United States. In his 2019 State of the Union, Trump vowed that America would never be socialist.
&#8220;Here, in the United States, we are alarmed by new calls to adopt socialism in our country. America was founded on liberty and independence — not government coercion, domination, and control. We are born free, and we will stay free,&#8221; he said.
In addition, Trump&#8217;s recent efforts to build a coalition — including former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii — may not have brought in a tidal wave of &#8220;Trump Democrats,&#8221; but they have given him a populist boost that Vice President Harris failed to match with a &#8220;bounce&#8221; from the Democratic National Convention.
For these reasons and more, the political Left clearly does not want you to see the parallels. Rolling Stone <a href="https://x.com/RollingStone/status/1832796110198280409" target="_blank" rel="noopener">panned the film</a>, calling it a &#8220;tedious biopic that shows the American political right will always value propaganda over compelling human drama.&#8221; On <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dennis-quaid-biopic-reagan-outperforms-expectations-earns-high-audience-rating" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rotten Tomatoes,</a> the movie scored a dismal 20% from critics who tend to lean all the way to the Left.
The audience told a different tale, however, giving the film a positive 98%. I&#8217;m with them.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">Movie and TV show review</a> aggregator <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/rotten-tomatoes">Rotten Tomatoes</a> has introduced a new audience-generated “Popcornmeter” rating that is only available for verified movie ticket purchasers.
According to <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/new-rotten-tomatoes-score-badge-verified-hot-1235974680/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>, a movie must receive a verified audience score of 90% or higher on the Popcornmeter to receive an official Verified Hot badge. The movie must have a minimum of Verified Ratings for films in wide release and a minimum of 250 Verified Ratings for limited releases to qualify for the <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/about">Popcornmeter</a>.

Movies that earn a score of at least 3.5 out of 5 stars in 60% of their audience reviews will receive a &#8220;full popcorn bucket&#8221;, while films with scores under that will receive a &#8220;tipped over popcorn bucket.&#8221; 
Verified ratings must come from users who have purchased movie tickets through Fandango, the sister site of Rotten Tomatoes. 
Newer releases that earned the &#8220;Verified Hot&#8221; badge so far include “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Deadpool &amp; Wolverine,” “Twisters,” “It Ends With Us,” and others. Older films, including “Top Gun: Maverick,” “The Color Purple,” “Parasite,” “Oppenheimer,” “Dune: Part Two,” and others are having the badge retroactively <a href="https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/verified-hot-honoring-the-films-with-the-highest-verified-audience-scores/">applied</a>.
Another change on the site is updating the minimum number of critic reviews that must be submitted before the Tomatometer score is calculated. If a movie debuts at a film festival or is projected to earn $60 million or less at the box office, it needs 10 reviews to get a score. Any film projected to earn between $60 million and $120 million needs 20 reviews, and any projected to receive over $120 million needs 40 reviews, per THR.

This change is being seen in the industry as an attempt to combat the effects of “review bombing,” or the practice of users intentionally driving down the score of an entertainment project. 
“On Rotten Tomatoes, fans love to consult our verified audience score, in addition to the Tomatometer critics’ score, when discovering new movies and deciding what they want to watch next,” Amanda Norvell, senior VP of direct-to-consumer services at Fandango, said of the site update. 
“With the addition of Verified Hot, we are excited to celebrate and shine a spotlight on the theatrical films that fans have unanimously embraced and have taken the time to share their incredible moviegoing experience with other fans,” she added.

The Daily Wire&#8217;s first-ever feature-length comedy “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/lady-ballers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lady Ballers</a>” is the number one most popular movie to stream in the country, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
The film, which can be streamed exclusively on DailyWire+, took the top spot on Rotten Tomatoes list of most popular streaming movies on Tuesday. The film has an audience score of 95%, with more than 2,500 reviews on the online aggregator of movie reviews.
&#8220;Lady Ballers&#8221; is directed by the company’s co-founder Jeremy Boreing, who also stars in the film alongside Daily Wire sports show “Crain &amp; Co.” hosts. The movie tells the story of one down-on-his-luck former high school basketball coach, Rob, who will do anything to win — which in this case means teaching his team of men radical modern gender theory and leading them to identify as women in order to brutally dominate multiple women’s sports.
It is followed on the streaming list by &#8220;May December,&#8221; which stars Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore and is available on Netflix.
Boreing says the &#8220;Lady Ballers&#8221; launch has been the most successful in the company&#8217;s history.

Not even 24 hours since DailyWire+ comedy &#8220;Lady Ballers&#8221; premiered online, the film has racked up more than 1,000 audience scores on popular review site Rotten Tomatoes, landing a staggeringly high 97% average rating.
The movie tells the story of a down-on-his-luck former high school basketball coach named Rob, played by Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing, who will do anything to win — in this case, teaching his team of men radical modern gender theory and leading them to identify as women in order to brutally dominate multiple women’s sports.
&#8220;Not every day you see something original and fresh. Haven&#8217;t laughed this much in a long time. Highly recommended,&#8221; one of the reviews reads, with another reading, &#8220;Loved it! Funny and original; this movie does what others don&#8217;t have the balls to do!&#8221;
Notably, there are only six total of the 1,000+ audience reviews currently available to be viewed on the site. Three of the six visible reviews complain to some extent that the movie is &#8220;transphobic&#8221; and filled with &#8220;hatred.&#8221;
The Daily Wire has reached out to Rotten Tomatoes about the issue but has yet to receive a response.

Additionally, following the premiere, some social media users noted that they were unable to leave a review on the site.
&#8220;[Rotten Tomatoes] doesn’t like us leaving positive reviews of <a class="css-1qaijid r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0 r-poiln3 r-1loqt21" dir="ltr" role="link" href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/LadyBallers?src=hashtag_click">#LadyBallers</a> so it’s resorted to preventing us from submitting them due to a ‘technical glitch,'&#8221; one person speculated. 
A screenshot of the issue shows the following note from Rotten Tomatoes: &#8220;We had trouble submitting your review. It&#8217;s not you, it&#8217;s us. You might have better luck if you try again in a minute.&#8221;

Film critic and founder of HollywoodInToto.com, Christian Toto, posted online Friday night that Rotten Tomatoes was actually working to wipe reviews that were posted before the movie was even premiered. &#8220;Users tried to review bomb <a class="css-1qaijid r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0 r-poiln3 r-1loqt21" dir="ltr" role="link" href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/LadyBallers?src=hashtag_click">#LadyBallers</a> &#8230; Rotten Tomatoes, to its credit, just wiped out those reviews knowing the film isn&#8217;t available yet for streaming,&#8221; he wrote. 
One of the early one-star posts highlighted by Toto bluntly states that the &#8220;reviewer&#8221; did not see the film and doesn&#8217;t plan to. &#8220;I did not see it and I do not plan to. This movie is by its very nature transphobic,&#8221; the user complains.

Positive reviews exploded online Friday night following the premiere of “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/lady-ballers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lady Ballers</a>,” a DailyWire+ original and the company’s first-ever feature-length comedy.
The movie tells the story of a down-on-his-luck former high school basketball coach named Rob, played by Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing, who will do anything to win — in this case, teaching his team of men radical modern gender theory and leading them to identify as women in order to brutally dominate multiple women’s sports.

Under the hashtag #LadyBallers, thousands more viewers sounded off. And some people took to film review site Rotten Tomatoes to leave a positive rating, too.
As of Saturday morning, &#8220;Lady Ballers&#8221; has racked up more than 500 audience ratings for the movie, landing a stunning 97% audience score.
Notably, only the first six audience reviews are currently available to be viewed on the site. The Daily Wire has reached out to Rotten Tomatoes about the issue.

Boreing, who also directed the film, dropped the trailer online for &#8220;Lady Ballers&#8221; just last week.

The DailyWire+ true crime docuseries “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/convicting-a-murderer#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Convicting a Murderer</a>,” starring Candace Owens, hit the #1 spot on Rotten Tomatoes’ “Best Documentary TV Shows” list this week. 
“Convicting a Murderer” is now the <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/browse/tv_series_browse/genres:documentary~sort:popular" target="_blank" rel="noopener">most popular</a> documentary TV show, sitting ahead of FX’s “Welcome to Wrexham” and Apple TV’s “The Super Models.” The DailyWire+ series, which reveals what filmmakers left out of the popular Netflix series “Making a Murderer,” premiered on September 7 and released <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ep-5-manitowoc-s-involvement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">episode 5</a> of the 10-part series Thursday. 
The Netflix series “Making a Murderer” portrayed convicted criminal Steven Avery as an innocent victim of corrupt law enforcement in the murder of Teresa Halbach. “Making a Murderer” sparked a worldwide fascination in the case, attracting around 19 million viewers, but “Convicting a Murderer” pulls back the curtain on what viewers missed in “Making a Murderer.” 
“Convicting a Murderer” currently holds a <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/convicting_a_murderer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">71% audience score</a> on Rotten Tomatoes even after Avery <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/is-steven-avery-directing-supporters-to-tank-candace-owens-convicting-a-murderer-review-score" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appeared</a> to be directing his supporters to tank the audience review score of Owens’ docuseries. 
“IMPORTANT: Steven is asking for all his supporters to flood Rotten Tomatoes and give ‘Convicting a Murderer’ a bad review,” reads a post on the 36,000-member Facebook group called “Steven Avery is INNOCENT.” 
“This garbage and vitriol is NOT TRUE and we need our community to step up and let … Owens know that STEVEN AVERY IS INNOCENT!” the post added. 
Before the post, “Convicting a Murderer” was boasting an average review score in the 90s, but is now seeing a drop in that score, down to 71%. Notably, it was just hours after this Facebook post was issued that “CAM” was flooded with bad reviews.
Despite the efforts of Avery’s supporters to tank the audience score, it’s clear audiences love the series.

“Episode 5 of ‘Convicting a Murderer’ has been released today and all I can say is WOW,” X user Tuesday Gazette <a href="https://twitter.com/TuesdayGazette/status/1704909034850226476?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “The misleading narrative from the original #stevenavery doc is extremely disappointing.”
“[Candace Owens], Thank you for doing #ConvictingAMurderer &#8211; Someone has to tell Teresa Halbach&#8217;s story!” <a href="https://twitter.com/JimClemente/status/1700314024578269464?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> former New York State Prosecutor and FBI profiler Jim Clemente. 
The 10-episode series contains exclusive interviews with subjects not included in the Netflix show, including law enforcement officers, family members, and fans-turned-investigators whose lives have been profoundly impacted by the case.
The latest episode in the series, titled “Manitowoc’s Involvement,” dives into Steven Avery’s $36 million lawsuit against Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, for his wrongful conviction in 1985.
