Roseanne Barr has weighed in on a COVID-19 conspiracy theory of her own to add to the legions of COVID-19 conspiracy theories circulating across the web: it&#8217;s all a ploy to kill off baby boomers.
Speaking with comedian Norm Macdonald on his new YouTube series, “Quarantined With Norm Macdonald,” Roseanne Barr laid out her bizarre thesis on massive boomer extinction.
&#8220;Well, you know it&#8217;s all connected in my head, because I&#8217;m on the autism spectrum, so everything has to fit perfectly, or else I&#8217;ll go insane, so I&#8217;m always trying to put things together, but it&#8217;s all interrelated. I think we&#8217;re being forced to evolve,&#8221; Roseanne said at first.
“You know what it is, Norm? I think they&#8217;re just trying to get rid of all my generation,&#8221; Roseanne later added. &#8220;The boomer ladies that, you know, that inherited their, you know, are widows. They inherited the money so they got to go wherever the money is and figure out a way to get it from people.&#8221;
&#8220;Because there&#8217;s so many boomers that have money and do no work,” Macdonald responded. “So if you got them out of society — that would be a good thriller.&#8221;
Barr also said that she was holed up in Hawaii, which she claimed has just one case of coronavirus in complete contradiction of all the available evidence.
&#8220;Although she did not specify which island she was on, the entire state of Hawaii has had much more than one case and has seen four people die due to the coronavirus <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/health/coronavirus-in-us-state-by-state-breakdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">as of Monday afternoon,&#8221; </a>Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/roseanne-barr-coronavirus-get-rid-generation-planning-lawsuit-cancellation">wrote</a>.
Later in the interview, Roseanne said she is using her time in isolation to conjure up the perfect lawsuit to &#8220;sue everyone&#8221; in Hollywood.
&#8220;Solitude to be able to think about how you’re going to sue everyone on the f***ing – you know, Hollywood,&#8221; Roseanne said. &#8220;I have the time now to research and come up with the perfect lawsuit. The lawsuit I&#8217;m going to wage against Hollywood.&#8221;
When Norm Macdonald asked her to clarify, she reiterated that the lawsuit is against all of Hollywood because all of Hollywood allegedly screwed her over.
&#8220;My situation that happened to me in Hollywood,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;I&#8217;m devising the perfect lawsuit and I am so blessed to have that time to sit here and be able to compile my thoughts. You know, be introspective. So I can figure out how to f– over everybody in the f–ing world over there.&#8221;

No one understands Cancel Culture’s wrath better than Roseanne Barr.
The woman who helped redefine the modern sitcom with her eponymous show is but a memory in La La Land today.
We all know why. Barr sent out one awful, racially charged Tweet, and her entire legacy got ripped out from under her. It didn’t matter that she gave female comics a valuable role model, or that co-worker Norm Macdonald hailed her <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/why-norm-macdonalds-new-talk-show-wont-target-trump-1141832">willingness to hire people of color</a>.
That one Tweet, for which Barr swiftly apologized, <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/roseanne-tom-arnold-hypocrisy/">canceled both her show and career</a>.
Bette Midler tells Barr to “hold her beer” on a weekly basis.
The Divine Ms. Me’s Twitter account is a veritable hate emporium. She rails against President Donald Trump first and foremost. It’s how she does it, though, that matters. Even Robert De Niro might blush at her venom.
In the past, she’s joked about someone “shiving” President Trump (<a href="https://newsradiowrva.radio.com/blogs/jeff-katz/will-secret-service-investigate-bette-midlers-comments-about-stabbing-president">she later deleted it</a>), and wrote a poem about the Trump family getting hanged for their crimes.
She deleted that, too.
More importantly, her hate spills over into other public figures. She <a href="https://twitchy.com/gregp-3534/2019/08/24/bette-midler-goes-on-a-vile-unhinged-rant-over-david-kochs-death/">cheered on the death</a> of Libertarian philanthropist David Koch for all to see.
When Texas got hammered by Mother Nature, Midler said the <a href="https://twitchy.com/brettt-3136/2017/09/05/no-aid-for-them-bette-midler-says-no-federal-money-for-texas-until-their-attitude-improves-or-something/">state didn’t deserve federal aid</a> due to its cynicism over government spending.
She famously praised the man who broke five of Sen. Rand Paul’s ribs and left the Senator close to a life-threatening condition. Midler <a href="https://www.theepochtimes.com/bette-midler-deletes-tweet-praising-man-who-assaulted-sen-rand-paul_3127567.html">deleted the message later</a>.
Sense a pattern? There’s another Midler pattern, too. She doesn’t apologize for her horrific statements.
This week, Midler sank to a new low. She turned her Twitter fire on conservative icon Rush Limbaugh, recently diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. Some prominent liberals, like Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, put down their ideological hammers and wished Limbaugh a speedy recovery.
Not Midler. She shared this message regarding the radio talker mere days after he went public with his diagnosis:

She also Tweeted this:

Barr claimed she didn’t know that the target of her Tweet, former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, is black. She also blamed using the drug Ambien for the Tweet. Her mea culpa was swift and without any strings.
Midler makes no such claims about her targets. Nor does she apologize for the hate she spews on a regular basis.
And why should she?
The media, outside of conservative sites, mostly ignore her rage. Her Hollywood peers apparently don’t care, either. They keep hiring her. She co-stars in the Sundance Film Festival entry “The Glorias,” provided a voice for the recent “The Addams Family” animated film, and contributed to Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician.”
Team Cancel Culture can’t be bothered to so much as acknowledge her hate, let alone sic the Outrage Mob on her.
Why?
Because Cancel Culture isn’t about being kind to one another. Nor does it genuinely protect people from nasty attacks.
Cancel Culture exists to promote progressive groupthink, smite conservatives whenever possible, and ensure debate is no longer part of the American equation.
None of those goals overlap with Midler’s theatrics, so she gets a pass.
Now, if Midler scorched a liberal icon with similar gusto, that could change things. For now, the Tony winner is free to Tweet to her heart’s content, knowing Cancel Culture will look the other way.

Roseanne Barr took to her YouTube channel on Saturday to rail against socialist media darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), whom she called a &#8220;dumbass,&#8221; an &#8220;Israel hater,&#8221; and a &#8220;Farrakhan-loving &#8230; bug-eyed b****.&#8221;
Barr did not mention Ocasio-Cortez by name but spoke of the author of the Green New Deal, which the freshman Democrat authored.
&#8220;That Green New Deal that that Farrakhan-loving b**** &#8212; I don&#8217;t remember her name. The bug-eyed b**** who looks like a realtor. She got those realtor eyes. I can always tell by realtor eyes. She got &#8217;em. Bug-eyed lyin&#8217; b****. Farrakhan fan Israel-hater. Lefty. Dumbass. Dumbass. Dumb as they get,&#8221; the comedian started the video.
Barr was referring to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has a history of anti-Semitic remarks such as calling Jews &#8220;<a href="http://twitter.com/LouisFarrakhan/status/1052304476923719680?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">termites</a>.&#8221;

In January, Ocasio-Cortez <a href="https://nypost.com/2019/01/19/ocasio-cortez-attends-nyc-womens-march-amid-anti-semitism-controversy/">spoke</a> at New York City&#8217;s Women&#8217;s March despite wide backlash over leaders Linda Sarsour and Tamika Mallory&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/18368/7-things-you-need-know-about-womens-march-aaron-bandler">ties to anti-Semitism</a>. Sarsour has praised Farrakhan and appeared onstage with Rev. Jeremiah Wright; Mallory has openly praised Farrakhan, too.
Barr continued: &#8220;So, I&#8217;m gonna try to correct some of the mistakes she&#8217;s made, like costing hundreds of people decent-paying jobs &#8217;cause, I don&#8217;t know, they breathe carbon in the air or some horses***.&#8221;
&#8220;She got paid to do that. Can you imagine?&#8221; asked Barr. &#8220;Paid to decimate communities. But that&#8217;s what the [Democrats] have been doing. That&#8217;s that socialism does.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;ve just got to say it: Socialism is a fake f***ing con,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It&#8217;s just like capitalism but it comes from the bottom-up, not the top-down. It&#8217;s a f***ing ponzi scheme and a con game.&#8221;
Barr then took on what she said was Democrats&#8217; real motives for open borders. &#8220;Here&#8217;s why they want them immigrants: First of all, because all their buddies are hiring them for less than minimum wage. That&#8217;s a big draw. And second, because no Americans are gonna vote for their ass anymore because we woke up to the s*** you&#8217;re doing.&#8221;
&#8220;You see, you&#8217;re decimating whole communities in inner-cities while you&#8217;re up there in a vineyard and a mansion. Okay, that&#8217;s what socialism gets us. Well we don&#8217;t want none of that s***. We don&#8217;t want what you did in Venezuela,&#8221; she concluded.

In an apology video, Barr addressed Jarrett directly. &#8220;If she&#8217;s watching, I&#8217;m so sorry that you thought I was racist and that you thought my tweet was racist,&#8221; the comedian said, <a href="https://deadline.com/2018/07/roseanne-barr-valerie-jarrett-sean-hannity-misunderstood-tweet-get-new-hairstyle-abc-fired-video-1202434700/">according</a> to Deadline. &#8220;Because it wasn&#8217;t. It was political. I&#8217;m sorry for the misunderstand that caused, my ill-worded tweet. And, you know, I&#8217;m sorry that you feel harmed and hurt. I never meant that. And for that I apologize.&#8221;
&#8220;I never meant to hurt anybody or say anything about an entire race of people, which I think 30 years of my work can attest to,&#8221; Barr added.
&#8220;Roseanne,&#8221; which was bringing in high viewership, was cancelled by ABC. They created a spinoff with the cast sans Barr called &#8220;The Conners.&#8221;

On Tuesday&#8217;s season finale episode, &#8220;We Continue to Truck,&#8221; the plot centered around the character Beck (Lecy Goranson) and her pregnancy at the hands of a busboy at the restaurant where she works who&#8217;s here in the United States illegally. <a href="http://What about the other victims? They&#8217;re &#8220;just trying to have a good life,&#8221; as well. But you won&#8217;t see any sympathy for them in Hollywood. You won&#8217;t see the brutal murders and sexual assaults. All you&#8217;ll see are manufactured sob stories geared to drum up sympathy for the lawbreakers. Stories that don&#8217;t accurately reflect the dangers posed by illegal immigration. Those dangers are why we have a system in place to help good people who aren&#8217;t lawbreakers enter this country the right way. Legally. It&#8217;s a simple solution that prevents scenarios like the one shown on The Conners. So why is the left so opposed to it?">Newsbusters</a> has more:

As the two characters argue, Becky denounces the ICE raids as &#8220;ridiculous&#8221; because illegal immigrants are &#8220;just trying to have a better life.&#8221; Transcript:

&#8220;I know for a fact that she&#8217;s not a racist,&#8221; he said, going on to imply that ABC should not have canceled her show so suddenly. &#8220;I&#8217;ll put it this way, I was surprised at the response. And that&#8217;s probably all I should say about it.&#8221;
ABC decided to kill off Roseanne&#8217;s character on the show via an opioid overdose.

Rumors began circulating online this week that the Roseanne Barr-less reboot of the &#8220;Roseanne&#8221; reboot was likely going to be cancelled after just 11 episodes, but the reality is that ABC has given no word on what it plans to do with &#8220;The Conners.&#8221;
The rumor got going in part from a comment by ShowBiz411 about ABC suspiciously ordering just one more episode in addition to the first run of ten.
&#8220;ABC has ordered 1 extra episode to the original order of 10,&#8221; noted <a href="https://www.showbiz411.com/2018/10/31/ratings-the-conners-beaten-by-everything-drops-in-total-viewers-and-demo-as-abc-orders-only-1-more-episode">Roger Friedman</a>. &#8220;Sounds to me like a finale,&#8221; he speculated, then joked: &#8220;Someone wakes up and says they dreamt Roseanne died. There&#8217;s a cackle from the next room. Fade to black.&#8221;
Friedman&#8217;s suggestion followed his breakdown of &#8220;The Conners&#8221; ratings thus far, which he suggested are trending down in problematic fashion. The show &#8220;dropped in everything last night&#8211;total viewers, key demo,&#8221; he wrote. Its big Halloween episode was &#8220;beaten by everything- &#8216;NCIS,&#8217; &#8216;The Voice,&#8217; etc.&#8221; while the show lost ground in the key demo and total viewers, which were &#8220;down by 180K.&#8221;
Friedman also noted just how costly the cast of the show is for ABC. According to Variety&#8217;s numbers, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert are each paid $375,000 per episode. Add the salaries of the other key cast members and you&#8217;re talking big money.
<a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/conners-is-us-tv-ratings-tuesday-oct-30-2018-1156712">The Hollywood Reporter</a> had a different take on the show&#8217;s ratings, which it noted &#8220;improved a little&#8221; over the last week (numbers likely impacted by the World Series) and fared pretty well against the competition. But as <a href="https://www.aol.com/article/entertainment/2018/10/31/ratings-the-conners-halloween-episode-tops-the-voice-knockouts-in-key-demo/23577160/">The Wrap</a>&#8216;s breakdown shows, Friedman is correct about &#8220;The Conners&#8221; losing out to most of the competition in its time slot.
While the Roseanne-free show drew 7.7 million viewers for ABC, &#8220;The Voice&#8221; drew 8.8 million for NBC, and &#8220;NCIS&#8221; drew 12.1 million over at CBS. &#8220;The Gifted&#8221; drew just 2 million for Fox.
Overall, NBC won the ratings war Tuesday night &#8220;with a 1.7 rating/7 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 8.1 million, according to preliminary numbers,&#8221; The Wrap reports. CBS and ABC tied in the ratings (1.1/5), but CBS beat out ABC significantly in total viewers, 9.7 million compared to ABC&#8217;s 4.9 million. Fox came in a distant fourth, with a 0.6/3 and with 2.4 million viewers.
As The <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/news/37243/while-foxs-last-man-standing-outperforms-abcs-james-barrett">Daily Wire</a> reported, &#8220;The Conners&#8221; premiere only managed about half of the total viewers of the premiere of &#8220;Roseanne&#8221;:

ABC&#8217;s golden goose that was &#8220;Roseanne&#8221; has quickly become a sterile cow without its title character. Coming into week 2 of the show&#8217;s spinoff, &#8220;The Conners,&#8221; the ratings have taken a massive nosedive with no sign of stopping.
According to <a href="http://The CW&#8217;s The Flash (0.7, 1.8 million) also was steady in the demo while adding a few eyeballs, and Black Lightning (0.4, 1.2 million) ticked up to match its season premiere demo rating and log its largest L+SD audience for the season.">Deadline</a>, the spinoff sitcom &#8220;was down 29% in 18-49 (-26% from the fast national) and down 26% in viewers from the premiere.&#8221;
By contrast, the &#8220;Roseanne&#8221; reboot dropped only 25% in the 18-49 graphic and just 16% in viewers in week 2 following its major debut at number one this past spring. If &#8220;The Conners&#8221; does not reverse the downward spiral, it will inevitably face cancellation.
The effect that Roseanne Barr&#8217;s absence has had on the show cannot be understated and has been felt ever since &#8220;The Conners&#8221; premiered last week.

On the flipside, the openly conservative &#8220;Last Man Standing&#8221; came back to FOX and flew high at number one. From <a href="https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/last-man-standing-ratings-fox-1202962065/">Variety</a>:

&#8220;Last Man Standing&#8221; debuted its seventh season on Fox Friday night, with the Tim Allen-led sitcom rocketing past its previous season numbers on ABC.
&#8220;Last Man Standing&#8221; averaged a 1.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 8 million viewers, airing at 8 p.m. By comparison, the Season 6 premiere on ABC drew a 1.1 rating and 6 million viewers, while that season as a whole averaged a 1.2 rating and 6.4 million viewers. In fact, the last time the series drew over 8 million viewers was back in its fourth season, and the last time it drew a 1.8 rating or better was in Season 2. While the ABC-dropped &#8220;Last Man Standing&#8221; continues to rule the Friday night ratings battle over at Fox, the premiere of ABC&#8217;s Roseanne-free spinoff of &#8220;Roseanne&#8221; aired Tuesday night and barely managed to attain half the record-setting opening of its precursor.
&#8220;Roseanne,&#8221; starring the pro-Trump Roseanne Barr, shocked the television world back in March by earning a stunning 18.2 million viewers (5.1 rating in the key demo) in its debut. Before the show came to a screeching halt after Barr infamously tweeted that former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett was the love child of the Muslim Brotherhood and &#8220;Planet of the Apes,&#8221; viewership had tapered off to a still solid 10.3 million (2.4 rating).
&#8220;The Conners&#8221; opened Tuesday at about where &#8220;Roseanne&#8221; left off. &#8220;The debut airing delivered 10.5 million viewers and a 2.3 rating among adults 18-49,&#8221; Entertainment Weekly&#8217;s James Hibberd <a href="https://ew.com/tv/2018/10/17/conners-ratings-vs-roseanne/">reports</a>. &#8220;That&#8217;s down 55 percent from the premiere of Roseanne last spring, but was on par with Roseanne&#8216;s finale and even managed to edge out NBC&#8217;s This Is Us for the night.&#8221;
The spin-off&#8217;s numbers roughly meet the expectations of marketing analysts, who found that interest in the Roseanne-less show was tracking at roughly half the viewership of the original, Hibberd notes.
Meanwhile, the Fox reboot of the widely popular show that ABC inexplicably dropped last year, &#8220;Last Man Standing,&#8221; starring conservative Tim Allen, has dominated the competition on Friday nights, averaging 8 million viewers and a 1.8 rating in its premiere. <a href="https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/last-man-standing-ratings-fox-1202962065/">Variety</a> reports:

Two senior-level ABC executives recently said in an interview that they regret firing Roseanne Barr after she made controversial comments in a tweet about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.
The two executives, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6261259/ABC-fears-Conners-flop-without-Roseanne-Barr.html">Daily Mail</a> last week that firing Barr &#8220;was a &#8216;knee-jerk&#8217; reaction by ABC&#8217;s president and admitted that temporarily suspending Barr may have been a wiser decision.&#8221;
Barr&#8217;s show was canceled after she wrote about Jarrett on Twitter: &#8220;muslim brotherhood &amp; planet of the apes had a baby= vj.&#8221;
&#8220;We didn&#8217;t think it through properly,&#8221; one executive said. &#8220;What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldn&#8217;t have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation.&#8221;
&#8220;This would have given them more time to listen to the public, advertisers and cast members to determine the best decision,&#8221; the executive continued.
ABC reportedly fears that the show&#8217;s replacement, &#8220;The Conners,&#8221; will be a ratings disaster because Barr&#8217;s fan base will not watch &#8220;out of loyalty to the actress.&#8221;
&#8220;They could&#8217;ve suspended her from the first few episodes without pay and had her return later on in the season,&#8221; another source told the Daily Mail. &#8220;I mean the season finale saw Roseanne going to the hospital for knee surgery. While they worked out her fate, her character could have faced serious complications and fought for her life, while simultaneously making Roseanne fight for her career with a national apology tour.&#8221;
&#8220;The morning the racist tweet scandal blew up, Roseanne offered to publicly apologize and do the rounds of every show but Ben and Channing weren&#8217;t having any of that and wanted her gone,&#8221; the second source continued. &#8220;Why not have her front a PSA for the network on racism and cyberbullying? Roseanne kept saying on the call before she was fired, &#8216;What can I do? What can I do?&#8217; Fans of her show have watched her character confront prejudice and racism &#8212; we could&#8217;ve made this a storyline for her to save the show and redeem her publicly.&#8221;

ABC Executives Having Second Thoughts About Firing Roseanne

Barr was fired by the network in May and her hit show &#8220;Roseanne&#8221; abruptly canceled after she posted a racist tweet on Twitter in which she said Valerie Jarrett, a former aide to President Barack Obama, looks as if the &#8220;Muslim brotherhood &amp; planet of the apes had a baby.&#8221;
After the show&#8217;s demise, talk began about a spinoff show starring the entire cast, minus Barr, featuring her family and titled &#8220;The Conners.&#8221;
Now, Barr has revealed how her character disappears. She told Brandon Straka on his YouTube show &#8220;Walk Away,&#8221; that the writers of &#8220;The Conners&#8221; will have her die by overdosing on opioids.
&#8220;Oh ya, they killed her,&#8221; she said. &#8220;They have her die of an opioid overdose.&#8221;
Barr said she&#8217;s not happy with the way she&#8217;ll be written out of the show.
&#8220;So it wasn&#8217;t enough to just do what they did to me. They had to so cruelly insult the people who loved that family and that show,&#8221; she said. &#8220;They had to cruelly insult them, and that&#8217;s what they chose to do. So there&#8217;s nothing I can do about it. It&#8217;s done. It&#8217;s over. There&#8217;s no fight left.&#8221;
But Barr is resigned to her TV fate. &#8220;There&#8217;s nothing I can do about it,&#8221; Barr said. &#8220;It&#8217;s done. It&#8217;s over. There&#8217;s no fight left.&#8221;

Norm Macdonald was supposed to appear on the &#8220;Tonight Show&#8221; Tuesday night, but NBC canceled his appearance after the comedian criticized the #MeToo movement in an interview.
Macdonald has a new Netflix <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/34828/what-weve-been-waiting-norm-macdonald-gets-netflix-ashe-schow">show premiering Friday</a> called &#8220;Norm Macdonald Has A Show,&#8221; and was set to discuss his latest project with Jimmy Fallon, but after the former &#8220;Saturday Night Live&#8221; star&#8217;s <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/why-norm-macdonalds-new-talk-show-wont-target-trump-1141832">interview with the Hollywood Reporter</a> was published, the network canceled, citing &#8220;<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/12/arts/television/norm-macdonald-tonight-show-metoo.html">sensitivity to our audience</a>.&#8221;
In an interview in which Macdonald seemed to criticize and awkwardly defend everything he was asked about (he talked about how the Constitution was designed to survive President Donald Trump, but also said the world was not as bad as he feared it would be with Trump as president), one segment stuck out. It appears as though once a hashtag is deemed saintly, any criticism becomes unacceptable. &#8220;Superman&#8221; and &#8220;Mission Impossible&#8221; star Henry Cavill <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/33118/henry-cavill-caves-apologizes-metoo-comments-ashe-schow">found this out the hard way</a> just a month ago.
Now it&#8217;s Macdonald&#8217;s turn. He told the Hollywood Reporter that he was &#8220;happy the #MeToo movement has slowed down a bit.&#8221;
&#8220;It used to be, &#8216;One hundred women can&#8217;t be lying.&#8217; And then it became, &#8216;One woman can&#8217;t lie.&#8217; And that became, &#8216;I believe all women.&#8217; And then you&#8217;re like, &#8216;What?&#8217; Like, that Chris Hardwick guy I really thought got the blunt end of the stick there,&#8221; Macdonald said.
Naturally, this quote was left out of most media accounts of Macdonald&#8217;s cancelled appearance.
Macdonald was then asked about an accused person admitting to wrongdoing, to which the comedian responded, &#8220;The model used to be: admit wrongdoing, show complete contrition and then we give you a second chance. Now it&#8217;s admit wrongdoing and you&#8217;re finished. And so the only way to survive is to deny, deny, deny. That&#8217;s not healthy &#8212; that there is no forgiveness. I do think that at some point it will end with a completely innocent person of prominence sticking a gun in his head and ending it. That&#8217;s my guess. I know a couple of people this has happened to.&#8221;
This, too, is left out of other media accounts of the interview. These are both sensible criticisms, but left-leaning media outlets need to defend #MeToo, so nuanced criticism is not allowed.
Macdonald was then asked who he knows that has been taken down due to #MeToo. He said Louis C.K. and Roseanne Barr.
&#8220;And Roseanne was so broken up [after her show&#8217;s reboot was canceled] that I got Louis to call her, even though Roseanne was very hard on Louis before that. But she was just so broken and just crying constantly,&#8221; Macdonald said. &#8220;There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day. Of course, people will go, &#8216;What about the victims?&#8217; But you know what? The victims didn&#8217;t have to go through that.&#8221;
This is the quote being shared in media posts. Following this, Macdonald reiterated how both comedians saw &#8220;All their work in their entire life wiped out in a single day, a moment.&#8221; He also said Barr was &#8220;a very left-wing person&#8221; who always wanted more minority representation on her shows. He also said it was &#8220;crazy&#8221; to call her a racist.
The tweet that ended Barr&#8217;s career was one in which she put up a picture of President Barack Obama&#8217;s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and a photo of a female ape from &#8220;Planet of the Apes.&#8221; Barr would later say she didn&#8217;t know Jarrett was black and that her tweet was about the <a href="https://deadline.com/2018/06/roseanne-barr-planet-of-the-apes-anti-semitism-valerie-jarrett-twitter-1202410310/">perceived anti-Semitism of the Obama administration</a>, which she believed was evident in the Iran deal.
Macdonald seemed to back up this version, as he told the Hollywood Reporter that Barr was left-wing about everything except Israel.
&#8220;What I do know is that she is a single-issue motivated person. And that issue is Israel. That&#8217;s all she cares about politically,&#8221; Macdonald said. &#8220;She is left wing in everything else. But that is why she did not like the Obama administration, because they snubbed Netanyahu. I believe that is the only reason that she voted Trump. She is certainly not a racist. That&#8217;s just crazy.&#8221;
Macdonald didn&#8217;t say anything else about Louis C.K.
For this tepid criticism of #MeToo and defense of his friends, Macdonald had his &#8220;Tonight Show&#8221; appearance canceled.
&#8220;Out of sensitivity to our audience and in light of Norm Macdonald&#8217;s comments in the press today, &#8216;The Tonight Show&#8217; has decided to cancel his appearance on Tuesday&#8217;s telecast,&#8221; NBC said in a statement. The New York Times then called Netflix <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/12/arts/television/norm-macdonald-tonight-show-metoo.html">to see if it would cancel Macdonald&#8217;s show</a> based on this interview.
Macdonald tweeted an apology for the interview after the cancellation, saying he did not mean to minimize the pain of victims.

The comment, highlighted by <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/roseanne-barr-says-shes-moving-israel-conners-airs-1139134">The Hollywood Reporter</a>, came during Barr&#8217;s interview with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach for his <a href="https://soundcloud.com/user-642636263/promised-land">podcast</a> in which she mentioned recently cutting a record in Nashville and expressed some regret about publicly apologizing to Valerie Jarrett for calling her the love child of the Muslim Brotherhood and &#8220;Planet of the Apes.&#8221;
&#8220;My friends told me at the beginning, &#8216;Oh my god, you made a fatal mistake, and that is you apologized to the Left and once you apologize they never forgive, they just try to beat you down until you don&#8217;t exist.&#8217; It&#8217;s just sad,&#8221; Barr told Boteach. &#8220;I should never have said I&#8217;m sorry in their world. In my world, I had to because I was sorry. For crying out loud, I was sorry.&#8221;
She continued: &#8220;People were so angry and, I have to say, a little bit ill-informed about me that they would put me in the same box where they have people who call for the death of all Jews and want to enslave all black people &#8212; real racists that actually exist.&#8221; In this &#8220;unprecedented period in American history,&#8221; she said, people need to arm themselves with facts rather than acting on their emotions.
As for clearing out of the country before &#8220;The Connors&#8221; airs this fall, Barr said she has the opportunity to study for a few months under one of her favorite teachers, something she described as &#8220;my great joy and privilege to be a Jewish woman.&#8221;
Barr said that while she holds no ill will for the show or those making it, she doesn&#8217;t plan on watching it, nor does she want to suffer through hearing commentary about it &#8212; which she predicted would inevitably involve trashing her.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not going to curse it or bless it,&#8221; she told the rabbi. &#8220;I&#8217;m staying neutral. That&#8217;s what I do. I&#8217;m staying neutral. I&#8217;m staying away from it. When asked about his own show&#8217;s cancellation by ABC, Allen explained that it was all about the bottom line and not bias. 
&#8220;I don&#8217;t really believe it was a political decision. I think it was a financial decision,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I thought it was done very poorly, that&#8217;s my point of view. I was heartbroken.&#8221;
&#8220;Last Man Standing&#8221; is set to return next month on Fox with most of its cast intact. &#8220;Roseanne&#8221; will spin-off &#8220;The Connors&#8221; in October with Barr absent from the show.

ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View&#8221; co-host Meghan McCain took a shot at Roseanne Barr on Friday, telling her to stay out of Republican politics because she represents every bad stereotype that is associated with the party.
McCain&#8217;s comments came after Barr appeared on Fox News with Sean Hannity on Thursday to discuss her racist tweet about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.
Speaking to Rabbi Schmuley Boteach, McCain said, &#8220;I understand everything you&#8217;re saying about forgiveness, but I&#8217;m a Republican on &#8216;The View,&#8217; and every day, I come on here trying to tell people Trump supporters and Republicans were nuanced. It&#8217;s not just one blanket thing and I was so excited when [Roseanne&#8217;s show] first came on and I really liked it because I thought it was a reflection of the middle of the country.&#8221;
&#8220;And the problem I have right now is: Roseanne is every gross stereotype I&#8217;m trying to get people away from,&#8221; McCain continued. &#8220;Her tweet, a lot of the incendiary things she has said about Jewish people, and obviously about Valerie Jarrett. So, it&#8217;s hard for me to come back, and it&#8217;s not even about forgiveness for me.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s more that I don&#8217;t want her to be associated with the Republican party in any way,&#8221; McCain stated.
Boteach pushed back by highlighting the show&#8217;s initial success and stating that Barr did not have a history of bigotry, prejudice, or racism.
&#8220;She dressed up like Hitler with cookies that looked like Jewish people from the ovens,&#8221; McCain fired back. &#8220;That&#8217;s not a kind person that would do something like that.&#8221;
Leftist Joy Behar came to Barr&#8217;s defense, sticking up for her after her apology on Hannity&#8217;s show, saying that it was &#8220;sincere.&#8221;
McCain drove a nail into Behar&#8217;s defense, pointing out that her issue with Barr isn&#8217;t whether or not she has asked for forgiveness, rather, she wants Barr to &#8220;stay the hell out of my lane in Republican politics because she&#8217;s making everything worse.&#8221;

In a characteristically unpredictable and rambling one-hour interview with Sean Hannity Thursday night, Roseanne Barr discussed the infamous tweet that got her fired by ABC and told Hannity what she&#8217;d say to Valerie Jarrett if given a chance to talk to her in person.
The interview is Barr&#8217;s first sit-down since being fired by ABC for describing Jarrett, who was born in Iran and is part African-American, as a cross between the Muslim Brotherhood and &#8220;Planet of the Apes.&#8221; Barr has apologized repeatedly for the tweet and insists she didn&#8217;t even realize that Jarrett is black.
&#8220;You could have knocked me over with a feather when they said she was African-American. I thought she was Middle Eastern,&#8221; said Barr, adding, &#8220;Her skin tone is like mine, and I&#8217;m brown. I didn&#8217;t know she was African-American.&#8221;
The tweet was meant to be political rather than racial, she <a href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/salvadorhernandez/roseanne-barrs-first-interview-since-her-firing-went-as">insisted</a>. &#8220;I assumed because she was from Iran and lived in Iran for such a long time, and writes about how she and Barack Obama hung out for a long time, and the reason they were so tight and such friends is because they don&#8217;t like the idea of American exceptionalism.&#8221;
Her reference to the Muslim Brotherhood, she suggested, partly stems from her defense of Israel. &#8220;I will always be friends with Israel,&#8221; she said she told studio execs, citing the fact that she is a Jew and has family who lives there.
In response to Hannity asking her what she&#8217;d say to Jarrett if given the chance, Barr gave the definition of a non-apology.
&#8220;I&#8217;m so sorry that you thought that I was racist and you thought that my tweet was racist, because it wasn&#8217;t, it was political,&#8221; <a href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/salvadorhernandez/roseanne-barrs-first-interview-since-her-firing-went-as">said</a> Barr. &#8220;I&#8217;m sorry that you feel harmed and hurt. I never meant that and for that I apologize. I never meant to hurt anybody or say anything negative about an entire race of people.&#8221; She added later, &#8220;Plus, I&#8217;d tell her she needs a new haircut.&#8221;
Barr also addressed a wild <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNrteSAu5ys">video</a> on the Jarrett tweet she posted on YouTube last week in which she screams, &#8220;I THOUGHT THE B**** WAS WHITE!&#8221; She told Hannity that she was genuinely frustrated and thought the whole thing was funny, so she posted it.
At one point in the interview, Barr got emotional when describing her initial fear of going outside because she thought everyone believed she was a racist. &#8220;I live on an island where it&#8217;s all brown people,&#8221; she quipped. &#8220;To be misunderstood is the worst thing,&#8221; she said.
But when she did finally start to go out in public again, she found far more support from people than she&#8217;d felt before. Many, she said, rushed up to her to tell her they felt what had happened to her was &#8220;not balanced&#8221; compared to others who had done similar things. She also stressed that her life demonstrates that she&#8217;s not racist, including her mixed family and her presidential run in 2012 representing the Socialist Party&#8217;s black caucus.
Barr also addressed her much-publicized &#8220;mental health&#8221; issues, saying that she&#8217;d been able to integrate her &#8220;multiple personalities&#8221; in the past through therapy. Asked about the alleged sexual abuse she suffered as a child, she said she has a &#8220;different view&#8221; now of it. As for whether any of that has influenced some of her more &#8220;crazy&#8221; moments, she suggested that it has.

In a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/31172/roseanne-says-shes-leaving-twitter-after-valerie-james-barrett">tweet</a> that quickly got her fired by ABC, Barr described former Obama aide Valarie Jarrett as the love child of the &#8220;muslim brotherhood &amp; planet of the apes.&#8221; Despite her apology and claims that she mistook Jarrett for a white woman, ABC (which is owned by Disney) immediately canceled Roseanne&#8217;s show. The firing was largely supported by both the Left and the Right, who widely believed her tweet was inexcusable.
Within days, however, the fireable comment narrative changed when comedienne Samantha Bee publicly called First Daughter Ivanka Trump a &#8220;<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2018/jun/01/samantha-bee-ivanka-trump-c-word-america">c**t</a>&#8221; on her TBS show. Unlike Roseanne, Bee not only kept her job, the Left celebrated her remarks as bold and virtuous:

Following that, Hollywood leftists from the likes of late-night comedians to musician John Legend <a href="https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/8462787/john-legend-asks-the-trump-administration-to-reunite-all-these-families">celebrated</a> mobs essentially harassing Trump administration officials in public. The double-standard was clear: leftists who violate decency get a gold star, but Trump supporters get a pink slip.
That all changed, however, when the mob came for Marvel director James Gunn, whose past jokes about pedophilia resulted in his firing by Disney. Ironically, Gunn himself had previously been a part of the mob that called for Roseanne&#8217;s head and the head of Laura Ingraham when she called Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg &#8220;whiny.&#8221;
&#8220;I wish some of these so-called defenders of liberty would start to understand what freedom of speech is AND isn&#8217;t. Roseanne is allowed to say whatever she wants,&#8221; Gunn said in his now-deleted tweet. &#8220;It doesn&#8217;t mean <a href="https://twitter.com/ABCNetwork?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">@ABCNetwork</a> needs to continue funding her TV show if her words are considered abhorrent.&#8221;

That&#8217;s how many stories about Roseanne Barr begin, with a warning about the explicit language from the TV star.
But this one hits a whole new level &#8212; especially in volume.
In a new video posted on Thursday to her YouTube channel, Barr is seen as she talks to a producer. She looks a bit disheveled and is smoking a cigarette. The two have an increasingly heated discussion, with Barr eventually growing exasperated.
&#8220;I&#8217;m trying to talk about Iran! I&#8217;m trying to talk about Valerie Jarrett, about the Iran deal!&#8221; Barr yells. &#8220;That&#8217;s what my tweet was about! I thought the b**** was white, god**** it! I thought the b**** was white! F***!&#8221; [Ed. note &#8212; the asterisks are ours.]
Barr was addressing a tweet she posted on Twitter in May in which she said the Former Obama official was the product of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Planet of the Apes. &#8220;muslim brotherhood &amp; planet of the apes had a baby=vj,&#8221; she said, referring to Jarrett.
The tweet led to the cancellation of her popular (and highly rated) TV show, &#8220;Roseanne.&#8221; Barr at first said &#8220;it&#8217;s a joke,&#8221; then said she didn&#8217;t know Jarrett was black, then apologized profusely. She later blamed the tweet on Ambien.
Barr, who is Jewish, also said her tweet was a commentary on anti-Semitism. &#8220;Rod Serling wrote &#8216;Planet of The Apes.&#8217; It was about anti-semitism. That is what my tweet referred to &#8212; the anti semitism of the Iran deal. Low IQ ppl can think whatever they want.&#8221;
She later said she &#8220;didn&#8217;t mean what they think I meant &#8230; But I have to face that it hurt people. When you hurt people even unwillingly there&#8217;s no excuse. I don&#8217;t want to run off and blather on with excuses. But I apologize to anyone who thought, or felt offended and who thought that I meant something that I, in fact, did not mean. It was my own ignorance, and there&#8217;s no excuse for that ignorance.&#8221;

Now that Roseanne has been booted, Seinfeld said that another female comedian should replace her.
&#8220;I think they should get another Roseanne,&#8221; he advised. &#8220;They brought Dan Conner back, he was dead and they brought him back. So, why can&#8217;t we get another Roseanne? There&#8217;s other funny women that could do that part. You need to get the comic in there. I hate to see a comic lose a job.&#8221;
Jerry Seinfeld represents an old-school kind of comedian who favors laughs over partisanship. In an interview with David Letterman last month, he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/30609/jerry-seinfeld-gets-it-im-not-interested-trump-paul-bois">expressed disinterest</a> in making Trump jokes.

There&#8217;s certainly plausibility to Barr&#8217;s claim regarding her mental problems. She&#8217;s had serious mental issues for years. Her political views have swung wildly from the far-left to the Trumpian right; she&#8217;s moved from baking cookies dressed as Hitler to grabbing her crotch while singing the national anthem. And comedians who know Barr have suggested that she&#8217;s been mentally troubled for years, from Joe Rogan to Jimmy Kimmel, who tweeted, &#8220;The real Roseanne I know could probably use some compassion and help right now.&#8221; Roseanne has herself acknowledged a &#8220;few nervous breakdowns,&#8221; a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and several hospitalizations.
Yet ABC was happy to put her on the air, knowing about her problems. It&#8217;s not wrong for ABC to pull her series, but there&#8217;s a case to be made that they knew what they were getting when they signed her up. In prior decades, studios protected their stars from public view for specifically this reason: many of those stars were similarly self-destructive, and studios realized they had to protect those stars from implosion. Thanks to the rise of social media and the radical increase in curiosity about the thoughts of celebrities themselves, carefully-cultivated public images have gone by the wayside, and all forms of thoughtvomit find their way to public view. The inevitable effect is that some troubled people, like Roseanne, blow themselves up.
