Last month marked 25 years since the Food and Drug Administration approved the abortion drug mifepristone, then called RU-486, for use in the United States.
On September 19, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and the FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, sent a letter to 22 pro-life state attorneys general informing them that the agencies will perform a review of the drug’s safety.
Such a review is long overdue and should result in the revocation of the FDA’s approval of mifepristone or, at minimum, the restoration of important protections around the drug’s prescription.
Since sending that letter, the FDA unexpectedly approved a generic form of the chemical abortion drug. RFK, Jr., and Dr. Makary have regulatory tools at their disposal that could begin the process of removing these dangerous drugs from the market. It is time for them to take decisive action.
The FDA first approved mifepristone in 2000 under a regulation known as Subpart H which allows for the expedited approval of drugs that treat “serious or life-threatening illnesses” and that provide a “meaningful therapeutic benefit to patients over existing treatments.” Mifepristone meets neither of these requirements.
First, mifepristone does not “treat” a “serious or life-threatening illness.” Pregnancy is not an illness and killing an unborn child is not treatment.
Second, chemical abortion does not now, and certainly did not then, provide a “meaningful therapeutic benefit . . . over existing treatments.” As a 2006 <a href="https://advancingamericanfreedom.com/mifepristone-resource-congressional-staff-report-the-fda-and-ru-486-lowering-the-standard-for-womens-health/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">congressional report</a> on mifepristone’s approval explained, “it appears that no concurrently-controlled trials comparing medical and surgical abortion were required by FDA, because the Agency already knew that medical abortion—i.e., abortion by RU-486—is unambiguously inferior to surgical abortion with respect to safety and effectiveness.”
Nor, as the same report lays out in detail, did the FDA rely on studies of sufficient rigor to meet Subpart H’s requirements.
How could the FDA so blatantly disregard its own rules? Because the approval of chemical  abortion was <a href="https://humanlifereview.com/playing-politics-with-the-abortion-pill-a-quarter-century-of-abuse-of-power-at-the-fda/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">political from the start</a>.

Over the next seven years, the Clinton administration worked to have the patent rights transferred to the Population Council, which then sought the FDA’s approval.  That transfer of patent rights was necessitated by the fact that the French company that owned the patent was unwilling to introduce the drug to the American market without indemnification of liability for the harms it would foreseeably cause.

Upon approval of mifepristone, the FDA implemented certain limitations on the drug’s prescription to provide at least some protection to women. <a href="https://url.avanan.click/v2/r01/___https:/storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067.137.0_20.pdf___.YXAzOmFhZjphOm86YmM2NTQ4Zjk3MDAzZTY4MjA0NDM5NzQyZjdmNzQ4NGU6Nzo3MWI3OjEzNTE0ZGZhZjY0OTJkZGEwMzg2NmU3ZDRhYjFjYjlhZjQ2MDZiMzc2MzEyMDEzZjNkMmQ4NzgyYTJhOTEwNDY6aDpUOk4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Specifically,</a> the abortion drug could only be prescribed to women who were less than seven weeks pregnant, women were required to visit the doctor three times, and abortionists were required to report all adverse events.
These restrictions did not make mifepristone safe, but they did reduce the risk of harm to women. For example, in-person consultations provided women with necessary procedures, such as ultrasounds, critical for recognizing ectopic pregnancies, which, if left untreated, are deadly.
In March 2016, the Obama FDA significantly <a href="https://url.avanan.click/v2/r01/___https:/storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067.137.0_20.pdf___.YXAzOmFhZjphOm86YmM2NTQ4Zjk3MDAzZTY4MjA0NDM5NzQyZjdmNzQ4NGU6NzozMzQ4OjU0ZDdkY2E2NzEzOWExMDlmZTU0NzVjM2QwMTdkZmFjOGE1YzcxNzc3NTU2OWI3OTg4NzIxOGFlMjJhNjViYTc6aDpUOk4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reduced</a> these protections, now referred to as a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS). Under the updated REMS, women could be prescribed mifepristone for abortions up to 10 weeks’ gestation and only needed to visit a doctor once, non-doctors were allowed to prescribe chemical abortions, and abortionists were only required to report fatal adverse events.
In 2021, the FDA “<a href="https://url.avanan.click/v2/r01/___https:/storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067.137.0_20.pdf___.YXAzOmFhZjphOm86YmM2NTQ4Zjk3MDAzZTY4MjA0NDM5NzQyZjdmNzQ4NGU6Nzo2ZGViOmVkNjQ0OWNmMjVmNWFiNzUyNDhjYzZkNGE2NzAxODU0ZTkyNjcwNGIzMDIzOWQyMGI0YWY5YjY2NjJkMDdlMzI6aDpUOk4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">removed</a> the ‘in-person dispensing requirement’” altogether.
In 2023, <a href="https://url.avanan.click/v2/r01/___https:/nrlc.org/nrlnewstoday/2024/03/guttmacher-says-abortions-increased-after-dobbs/___.YXAzOmFhZjphOm86YmM2NTQ4Zjk3MDAzZTY4MjA0NDM5NzQyZjdmNzQ4NGU6NzpjZjQ2OmNhNDQ5Mzc5ZWY2OGZhYjg5MjYyMDNlM2RhZGU5NGU3MDU2YjE3M2YwMzlhNjQwMGYwMmYzNmI2MTkyMWIyMDg6aDpUOk4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">63%</a> of abortions were chemical rather than surgical, and <a href="https://url.avanan.click/v2/r01/___https:/www.guttmacher.org/report/stability-number-abortions-2023-2024-us-states-without-total-bans-masks-major-shifts-access___.YXAzOmFhZjphOm86YmM2NTQ4Zjk3MDAzZTY4MjA0NDM5NzQyZjdmNzQ4NGU6Nzo0N2Q2OjFlMjhlNWE0NzQxODVlNWZiZDQ4YThmZWE5ODIzNTFkZTNlOWM3NWM5MGY4ZjJlOWI2NzY2YmM3ZGJmNDM4ZjI6aDpUOk4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tens of thousands</a> of chemical abortions were shipped into pro-life states in 2024.
The FDA’s review of the dangers of mifepristone to women’s health is long overdue. A recent study by the Ethics and Public Policy Center suggesting that the adverse event rate for chemical abortion is much higher than FDA data suggests, is only the most recent in two and a half decades of evidence that the FDA’s approval of the drug is dangerous for women.
Armed with this and other data, the heads of HHS and the FDA have legal authority to <a href="https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-21/chapter-I/subchapter-D/part-314/subpart-D/section-314.150" target="_blank" rel="noopener">call for a hearing</a> to determine whether the FDA’s initial approval of mifepristone should be withdrawn. This would be an important step toward removing dangerous chemical abortion drugs from the market, and allow the agency to delay approval of any other generic forms of mifepristone currently being considered.
For the past 25 years, mifepristone has been used to terminate innocent human life while injuring and harming women for life. The abortion drug’s reckoning is long overdue. The FDA’s recently announced review is a good first step, but pro-life Americans cannot rest until the dangerous chemical abortion pill is taken off the market and pre-born Americans are safe from its harms.

WASHINGTON—The Department of Health and Human Services is taking steps to ensure that federal HIV/AIDS funds cannot be used for so-called gender-affirming care, as they were under President Joe Biden’s administration, The Daily Wire has learned.
Under the Biden administration, states were using federal funding for HIV/AIDS treatment to cover transgender surgeries, hormones, and puberty blockers. For example, the Biden administration <a href="https://ryanwhite.hrsa.gov/sites/default/files/ryanwhite/hiv-care/gender-affirming-care-rwhap.pdf">allowed the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Drug Assistance Program</a> to provide “access to gender-affirming hormone therapy.”
The Department of Health and Human Services declared its intent to block the funds from being misused in April. Now, it is taking further steps to make sure that fund recipients are aware.
“The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program is a lifeline for thousands of Americans living with HIV, and HRSA will not allow funds to be diverted from their true purpose,” HRSA Administrator Tom Engels explained to The Daily Wire on Friday. “Every dollar of the AIDS Drug Assistance Program must support HIV/AIDS-related treatment — not sex trait modification medications unrelated to HIV care.”
HHS will post a “Notice of Funding Opportunity” on Friday through its Health Resources and Services Administration, adding language that clarifies funding — specifically the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) Emergency Relief Funds — are strictly limited to HIV/AIDS treatments. If medications such as hormones are medically necessary for HIV/AIDS care, they will be covered, but not if they are for “sex-trait modification purposes,” the notice says, and any funds received through drug rebates will have to remain within the HIV/AIDS program and can’t be redirected for other unrelated health purposes.
“This Notice of Funding Opportunity makes clear that HRSA is safeguarding program integrity and cracking down to ensure that people living with HIV get the care they need,” Engels added.
Some states were using the funds to pay for hormonal treatments for gender transitions, even when they weren’t medically necessary for HIV treatment — raising questions about whether drug rebate funds were being redirected to other health services.
The District of Columbia Department of Health AIDS Drug Assistance Program, for example, <a href="https://nastad.org/sites/default/files/2022-11/PDF-Success-Stories-DC-2019-ADAP.pdf">openly covered</a> transgender hormone treatments and used the federal 340B program to subsidize those hormones.
“The initial funding will be appropriated from the DC Ryan White Part B ADAP grant award, and any other cost for pharmacy provider education will be supplemented by DC ADAP rebates,” the explanation of the program explains.
In New Jersey, the Department of Medicine at Rutgers University <a href="https://njms.rutgers.edu/departments/medicine/infectious_diseases/cc_rwp.php">states that it</a> “offers gender-affirming hormone therapy for transgender persons” in line with the disgraced “World Professional Association of Transgender Health,” describing the transgender procedures as “an important part of a holistic approach to wellness and preventative medicine.”
This week, HHS added language to the notice of funding opportunity that reminds states that “therapeutics funded under the ADAP may only be provided ‘to treat HIV/AIDS or prevent the serious deterioration of health arising from HIV/AIDS in eligible individuals, including measures for the prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections.’”
For example, HHS notes, if an ADAP provides trans hormones, it can only allow those hormones to be dispensed to “treat HIV/AIDS or prevent the serious deterioration of health arising from HIV/AIDS, rather than for non-statutory purposes such as specified sex-trait modification procedures.”
The language will also remind states that the Ryan White HIV/Aids Program legislation states: “A State shall ensure that any drug rebates received on drugs purchased from funds provided pursuant to this section [ADAP] are applied to activities supported under this subpart [RWHAP Part B], with priority given to activities described under this section [ADAP].”
“As such,” the language notes, “all 340B rebates directly generated by a federal dollar are subject to HRSA HAB’s rebate policies and rules for expenditure. All rebates generated through ADAP must be used for RWHAP Part B activities, with priority given to ADAP, rather than diverted for unsupported activities that exceed the RWHAP’s limited statutory purpose, such as for specified sex-trait modification procedures.”

A coalition of pro-life advocates led by Live Action President Lila Rose on Friday urged Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary to reverse the recent approval of an abortion drug. 
Over two dozen pro-life advocates petitioned the FDA following the agency&#8217;s Tuesday approval of Evita Solutions’ generic version of mifepristone, the drug used in over 60% of all abortions. The signatories say that instead of approving new life-ending drugs, the FDA should completely remove mifepristone from the market. 
“We urge you, in the strongest possible terms, to reverse this dangerous approval immediately,&#8221; the coalition wrote, according to a <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2025/10/FDA-Coalition-Letter_-Abortion-Pill-10.3.2025-1.pdf">copy of the letter</a> obtained by The Daily Wire. &#8220;Rather than expanding the license for these drugs, the FDA should acknowledge the clear evidence of harm and withdraw mifepristone from the market.&#8221;
“Every abortion is a violation of human rights, and every life lost is an irreplaceable son or daughter. The federal government must stop enabling this violence under the false banner of ‘healthcare,’” they added. 
Signers of the letter included Ethics and Public Policy Center President Ryan Anderson, Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins, and Concerned Women for America CEO Penny Nance.
On Friday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the administration did not endorse the drug, but was required by law to approve Evita’s application because it was a generic offering of a drug already offered by two other pharmaceutical companies. 
The letter to Kennedy also laid out the brutal process that takes place after a mother takes a chemical abortion pill. 
“A chemical abortion consists of a two-step process. First, a pregnant mother will take mifepristone to starve her preborn child to death. Next, she will take misoprostol to induce labor contractions and deliver the baby&#8217;s dead body. At this stage in the first trimester, children developing in the womb already have a detectable heartbeat and brainwaves, and are beginning to move their arms and legs,” the coalition wrote. 
The coalition said that the approval contradicted a recent commitment from Kennedy to study the dangers of mifepristone. 
“Yet rather than pausing to examine the mounting evidence showing the harmful effects of mifepristone, the FDA has chosen to expand access to a drug that has already killed millions of preborn children and harmed countless women, undermining the very commitment that the Secretary publicly made to protect patients,” they wrote. 
Chemical abortions account for about two-thirds of all abortions in the United States and have ended the lives of at least 7.5 million unborn babies. At the same time, the mothers who take the pills often experience additional medical complications like hemorrhaging and sepsis. Studies showing the dangers of the drug have been manipulated to hide the harm, the coalition said. 
The decision has already triggered outrage from many Republican lawmakers. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) said he had completely lost faith in the FDA over the move, while over a dozen Republican representatives <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/republicans-demand-rfk-fire-rogue-actors-at-fda-who-approved-abortion-drug?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Republicans+Demand+RFK+Fire+%E2%80%98Rogue+Actors%E2%80%99+At+FDA+Who+Approved+Abortion+Drug">sent a letter</a> on Friday telling Kennedy to fire the “rogue actors” at the agency who approved the lethal drug.

A group of 13 House Republicans led by North Carolina Congressman Mark Harris demanded Friday that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. fire the bureaucrats responsible for the FDA’s “alarming” approval of a new abortion pill, according to a letter obtained by The Daily Wire. 
Harris told Kennedy that the FDA’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-lifers-demand-answers-from-trump-admin-after-shocking-abortion-pill-approval?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Pro-Lifers+Demand+Answers+From+Trump+Admin+After+%E2%80%98Shocking%E2%80%99+Abortion+Pill+Approval">approval</a> of Evita Solutions’ generic mifepristone, the drug used in over 60% of all abortions, ran contrary to the Trump administration’s pro-life record. Harris and his co-signers suggested that “rogue actors” in the FDA were responsible for the decision. 
“The approval of a generic version of this dangerous drug not only contradicts the announced review but also runs directly counter to this Administration’s stated pro-life agenda,” the lawmakers <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2025/10/10.3.25-Letter-to-Sec-Kennedy-on-Abortion-Pill-Approval.pdf">wrote</a>. “It is clear that rogue actors within the FDA are working to undermine both the sanctity of life and the Administration’s commitment to protecting it.”
They said that Kennedy should look at removing the officials responsible for the decision. 
“For this reason, we respectfully urge that you consider the director of the Office of Generic Drugs, the director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, and other bureaucrats responsible for this reckless decision as part of your reduction-in-force evaluations,” he wrote. 
Signing onto the letter were Reps. Josh Brecheen (OK), Keith Self (Texas), Eli Crane (AZ), Paul Gosar (AZ), Chip Roy (Texas), Mary Miller (IL), Andy Biggs (AZ), Barry Moore (AL), Scott Perry (PA), Ralph Norman (SC), Sheri Biggs (SC), and Ben Cline (VA). 
Mifepristone works by starving an unborn child to death by cutting it off from the necessary nutrients provided by its mother. A different drug is then taken to induce labor and expel the deceased baby from the mother. 
Harris said that removing the officials responsible for the decision would send a message that the administration still believes in defending innocent life. 
“As stewards of the taxpayers’ trust and defenders of the unborn, we must ensure that no federal office operates in open defiance of our values or the administration’s pro-life commitments. This is a critical moment to send a clear message that the lives of the unborn and the health of women will not be compromised by bureaucratic mismanagement or ideological activism.
Commenting on the approval, Health and Human Services Communications Director Andrew Nixon told The Daily Wire that the FDA “has very limited discretion in deciding whether to approve a generic drug. By law, the Secretary of Health and Human Services must approve an application if it demonstrates that the generic drug is identical to the brand-name drug.”
Nixon added that applicants for generic drugs do not need to submit independent evidence proving safety and efficacy. He also noted that HHS is conducting a review of the “reported adverse effects” of mifepristone.
Only two other drug companies, Danco Labs and Genbiopro, were previously approved to distribute the life-ending drug. The FDA wrote to Evita Solutions on September 30 that it had “concluded that adequate information has been presented to demonstrate that the drug meets the requirements for approval.”
The announcement shocked pro-life advocates, who have continued to press for action to crack down on the widespread distribution of abortion pills across the country.

A different drug is then taken to induce labor and expel the deceased baby from the mother. 
The fatal drug has been increasingly available after the Biden administration allowed it to be mailed by doctors. Leftist activists ship the drugs illegally across the country with impunity. 
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) called the approval “shocking” and said he had lost faith in FDA leadership. 
“This is shocking. FDA has just approved ANOTHER chemical abortion drug, when the evidence shows chemical abortion drugs are dangerous and even deadly for the mother. And of course 100% lethal to the child,” Hawley <a href="https://x.com/HawleyMO/status/1973801164052574259">wrote</a> on X. 
“FDA had promised to do a top-to-bottom safety review of the chemical abortion drug, but instead they’ve just greenlighted new versions of it for distribution. I have lost confidence in the leadership at FDA,” he added. 
Rep. Mark Harris (R-NC) also questioned the move.
&#8220;Wow! The FDA just approved a generic version of the abortion pill, Mifepristone, a drug that ends a baby&#8217;s life 100% of the time and harms mothers. Only two other drug companies, Danco Labs and Genbiopro, were previously approved to distribute the life-ending drug. The FDA wrote to Evita Solutions on September 30 that it had “concluded that adequate information has been presented to demonstrate that the drug meets the requirements for approval.”
Evita Solutions says on its <a href="https://www.evitasolutionsllc.com">website</a> that “medical abortion care is rife with medically unnecessary restrictions and social stigma in the United States” and that it “believes that all people should have access to safe, affordable, high-quality, effective, and compassionate abortion care, regardless of their race, sex, gender, age, sexuality, income, or where they live.”
Evita said that it expected to have the life-ending drug available by January 2026.
&#8220;Evita Solutions is now the third manufacturer (the second generic manufacturer) with FDA approval.  Availability of our product will expand patients’ options for medication abortion with an affordable product backed by decades of safe use,&#8221; it said in a statement.
In response to questions about the drug’s approval, Health and Human Services Communications Director Andrew Nixon told The Daily Wire that the FDA “has very limited discretion in deciding whether to approve a generic drug. By law, the Secretary of Health and Human Services must approve an application if it demonstrates that the generic drug is identical to the brand-name drug.”
Nixon added that applicants for generic drugs do not need to submit independent evidence proving safety and efficacy. 
“HHS is conducting a study of the reported adverse effects of mifepristone to ensure the FDA’s risk mitigation program for the drug is sufficient to protect women from unstated risks,” Nixon added. “The FDA does not endorse any drug product and directs prescribers to follow all labeling.”
The decision is already drawing backlash from pro-life advocates who have long warned about the dangers of the drug. Kelsey Pritchard, the director of state affairs for SBA Pro-Life America, called the decision “reckless.”
“This does nothing to help and fix the problem that we have with abortion drugs and mail-order abortion drugs, and instead puts a cheap drug on the market so that more unborn lives are taken and more women and girls end up in the ER,” she told The Daily Wire. 
Pritchard said that the Trump administration should reinstate restrictions on the mailing of mifepristone that the Biden administration loosened. 
“This decision is not MAGA. It is not MAHA, adding a new life ending drug to the market doesn&#8217;t make America greater or healthier, and this is not something that we would expect, especially at this time,” she added, calling for pro-life Republicans to call out the decision. 
Last month, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary told Republican attorneys general that they were studying the safety of mifepristone. Some studies have shown that the drug is not only fatal to the unborn child but can also bring serious health risks to the mother.

In a sweeping shift to align with the Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” agenda, grocery giant Walmart will drop synthetic dyes and more than 30 other additives — including artificial sweeteners and preservatives — from all of its store brands.
Walmart&#8217;s brands, including Great Value, Marketside, Freshness Guaranteed, and Bettergoods, are all getting the MAHA makeover, according to the retailer. The changes will affect more than 1,000 products, including salty snacks, sweet treats, salad dressings, and power drinks.
The reformulated products are expected to hit the shelves within a matter of months, and all changes are anticipated to be fully implemented by January 2027.

The changes are expected to have a significant impact on the American family, as Walmart plays a massive role in national grocery shopping. Just last year, the company netted $276 billion in grocery sales, for example.
Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who&#8217;s viewed as the figurehead of the MAHA movement, has been working with private companies to end the use of synthetic food dyes and other controversial additives. So far, major companies like PepsiCo, Tyson Foods, and Sam&#8217;s Club, among others, have signed on to the mission.

In addition to working with major food brands, HHS has teamed up with the Department of Agriculture to limit <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/why-can-food-stamps-buy-junk-food-how-doge-could-save-billions-and-maha" target="_blank" rel="noopener">food stamp</a> purchases to healthier options, generally cutting out sugary drinks and candy.
So far, at least a dozen states have had waivers authorized by Agriculture Secretary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-amnesty-trump-usda-chief-address-deportations-of-illegal-farm-workers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brooke Rollins</a> to make the changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Back in August, Kennedy reaffirmed his message that taxpayers should not be forced to pay for unhealthy foods like soda and candy, which he says are fueling the obesity epidemic in the United States and making Americans sick.
“We are spending $405 million a day on SNAP and about 10% is going to sugary drinks, and if you add candies to that, it’s about 13-17%,&#8221; he said.
“We all believe in free choice,” the secretary emphasized. “We live in a democracy — people can make their own choice about what they are going to buy and what they are not going to buy. If you want to buy a sugary soda, you should be able to do that, but the U.S. taxpayer should not pay for it.”
“U.S. taxpayers should not be paying to feed the poorest kids in the country food that will give them diabetes,” RFK added.

Pfizer stepped up with a $70 billion investment, signaling a shift toward making more drugs in the United States instead of continuing to rely on imports from other nations — some of which are considered adversaries. The Trump administration has identified that reliance as a national security issue.
Trump also suggested that his administration would be working with other drug companies in addition to Pfizer in an effort to increase the number of drugs that would be made available at discounted rates.

The women filming themselves taking the drug were doing so in reaction to a <a href="https://x.com/PressSec/status/1970276365116268622">press conference</a> that took place on Monday, during which President Trump and HHS Secretary Kennedy raised questions about the possibility of a causal link between autism and mothers who had used acetaminophen during pregnancy or had given it to their children as infants.
Kennedy is far from the first to raise such a concern.
A Mount Sinai <a href="https://www.mountsinai.org/about/newsroom/2025/mount-sinai-study-supports-evidence-that-prenatal-acetaminophen-use-may-be-linked-to-increased-risk-of-autism-and-adhd">study</a> published in August suggested that there was a link between prenatal acetaminophen use and both autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
<a href="https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5536672/">Findings</a> published by the National Institutes of Health in 2017 suggested that Tylenol use in infants and young children may pose an even greater risk for autism and ADHD than use during pregnancy.
In 2019, a <a href="https://hub.jhu.edu/2019/11/05/acetaminophen-pregnancy-autism-adhd/">study</a> from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health found that acetaminophen use during pregnancy was associated with elevated risks for autism and ADHD.
But still, in order to push back on Trump and Kennedy, pregnant women began posting videos of themselves as they swallowed the pills.

What we’re tracking: Whether Trump will commit to more UN funding.
After taking office, Trump withdrew the United States from UN agencies like the Human Rights Council and World Health Organization, rescinded about a billion dollars in funding that Congress had already appropriated, and ordered a review of any future funds going to the UN, saying he wanted to ensure its mission “aligned with our national interests.”
As a result, the UN is facing a severe budget crunch — to save money, it has initiated plans to relocate its offices from New York and Geneva to lower-cost alternatives, such as Nairobi. It is also planning to cut thousands of jobs and consolidate several smaller agencies. 
Trump’s speech will reportedly touch on “his vision of how the United States is approaching the world” — the assembly is hoping that approach includes funding commitments for the UN.
The Waltz: Mike Waltz, a former Green Beret and Florida congressman, was confirmed by the Senate on Friday to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and hit the ground running.
The Push for “Palestine”: Trump’s speech will coincide with a separate conference on Palestinian statehood that’s being led by France and Saudi Arabia.
Canada, Britain, and Australia each offered recognition of a Palestinian state for the first time this weekend. They joined about 150 of 193 UN member states that have done so.
But while Trump has seemingly grown more frustrated with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying he needs to “wrap up” the war in Gaza, he’s still expected to offer his support of Israel today. The State Department issued a statement calling the push for Palestinian Statehood a “publicity stunt” and “reward for terrorism”. 
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas will make the case for statehood to the UN General Assembly on Thursday. He’ll have to do it remotely after the Trump administration canceled his visa. 
Taking back Bagram: Last week, President Trump announced his intention to reclaim Bagram Air Base, which was abandoned and taken over by the Taliban following the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan under former President Joe Biden. 
When Trump was asked if he was willing to deploy American troops to retake the base, he refrained from giving a clear answer.
“We&#8217;re talking now to Afghanistan, and we want it back and we want it back soon, right away. And if they don&#8217;t do it &#8211; if they don&#8217;t do it, you&#8217;re going to find out what I&#8217;m gonna do,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1969552386076090849">said</a>.

Topline: President Trump and Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced significant findings on research concerning a spike in national autism rates. 
For weeks, there had been speculation about this, but Trump and Kennedy both linked one medication to a possible cause of autism and another to a possible treatment.
The cause: They said that the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy is tied to an increased risk of autism. Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol and is one of the most widely used medications globally for pain relief and fever reduction. 
FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary: “We have an epidemic of autism that has increased 400% in the recent decades and we don&#8217;t have a known cause. Now this may be a cause, but when you have enough evidence to suggest an association and you have no other plausible cause, we have a duty to notify parents and doctors.”
The cure: The other major part of this announcement was that a drug called leucovorin, also known as folinic acid, can potentially help treat autism symptoms.
Makary: “We recognized that some kids with autism actually have an autoimmune disease. … And some doctors have actually started to test for this folate antibody, and they will then move on to treat some kids with this folinic acid or vitamin B12 that bypasses the receptor.”
Pharma’s view: Kirk Perry, the CEO of Kenvue, which makes Tylenol, reportedly had a “hastily scheduled meeting” with Secretary Kennedy last week over reports about this announcement. Perry argued in the private meeting that there is no causal link between Tylenol use during pregnancy and autism. He told Kennedy that Tylenol is a safe option for pregnant women, especially if they spike a fever, and added that other options actually do have links to birth defects. 
Since early September, the Kenvue stock has <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/trump-admin-report-linking-tylenol-to-autism-sends-kenvue-stock-sliding/articleshow/124049521.cms?utm_source=chatgpt.com&amp;from=mdr">dropped</a> around 15%.

Topline: President Trump signed an executive order that the White House says will curb abuse of the H-1B system that’s freezing Americans out of good jobs. The order has sparked confusion, leaving many wondering how it works and who it affects.
H-1B visas allow companies to hire foreign workers for specialized jobs when companies can’t find a skilled American to fill the position. Critics of the program argue that it has been abused to undercut American wages.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the order imposes a one-time $100,000 fee per employee on any company seeking a new H-1B visa. Leavitt said in an X post: “This is NOT an annual fee.” And it does not apply to any current H-1B holders who are outside the country or whose visas are currently up for renewal.
Divisive? Hardly: Some of the president’s supporters want the H-1B program massively reduced if not canceled entirely. But even among the president’s supporters in the tech sector, they’ll say that the system could use reform.
Back in December, Elon Musk, a strong supporter of the H-1B program, posted on <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1873191959441084531" target="_blank" rel="noopener">X</a> that it is “broken and needs major reform.” He said many complaints about abuse could be addressed by “raising the minimum salary significantly and adding a yearly cost for maintaining the H1B, making it materially more expensive to hire from overseas than domestically.”
Project Firewall: The Department of Labor <a href="https://x.com/USDOL/status/1969161021232148795">rolled out</a> Project Firewall on Friday.
“For too long, Washington politicians have stayed silent as employers abused H-1B visas under President Trump. This is coming to an end today. The Department of Labor is proud to launch Project Firewall,” the department said in a promo video released on X.
Project Firewall is intended to crack down on abuse in the H-1B program. <a href="https://www.dol.gov/newsroom/releases/osec/osec20250919">According to</a> the department, it “will conduct investigations of employers through Project Firewall to maximize H-1B program compliance.” Violations could result in back wages for workers, civil fines, or even disbarment from the H-1B program for a specified period. The goal here is to “safeguard the rights, wages, and job opportunities of highly skilled American workers by ensuring employers prioritize qualified Americans when hiring.”

On Monday, President Donald Trump and Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. <a href="https://www.hhs.gov/press-room/autism-announcement-fact-sheet.html">announced findings into the concerning spike in national autism rates</a>, labeling one medication as a potential cause of autism, and another as a potential treatment.
It was announced that the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy is tied to an increased risk of autism. Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol, one of the most widely used medications globally for pain relief and fever reduction. 
&#8220;Taking Tylenol is not good. I&#8217;ll say it. It&#8217;s not good,&#8221; Trump said, noting that it might be necessary if a pregnant woman spikes a very high fever. &#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of common sense in this.&#8221;
Trump also talked about vaccinations, saying he believes vaccines need to be spread out over a child&#8217;s life, suggesting what&#8217;s known as a &#8220;delayed schedule.&#8221; Kennedy said later in the presser that HHS is also looking at vaccinations in connection to spiked autism rates.

Kenvue, the maker of Tylenol, <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/09/22/trump-tylenol-autism-announcement-kenvue">said</a> in a statement, &#8220;We believe independent, sound science clearly shows that taking acetaminophen does not cause autism. We strongly disagree with any suggestion otherwise and are deeply concerned with the health risk this poses for expecting mothers.&#8221;
Since early September, the Kenvue stock has <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/trump-admin-report-linking-tylenol-to-autism-sends-kenvue-stock-sliding/articleshow/124049521.cms?utm_source=chatgpt.com&amp;from=mdr">dropped</a> around 15%.
It was also revealed that the drug leucovorin, also known as folinic acid, can potentially help treat autism symptoms. A physician will need to prescribe the drug for this use.
The Daily Wire&#8217;s Morning Wire podcast host Georgia Howe spoke to FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary on Monday about this announcement. He emphasized that it&#8217;s vitally important to let the public know about this potential association.
“We have an epidemic of autism that has increased 400% in the recent decades and we don&#8217;t have a known cause,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;Now this may be a cause, but when you have enough evidence to suggest an association and you have no other plausible cause, we have a duty to notify parents and doctors.”
Makary has already sent out a “Dear doctor” letter to all U.S. physicians, he said.

&#8220;We now have good data from large studies and the Harvard School of Public Health Dean has made a very conclusive statement that he believes the association is causal,&#8221; Makary explained. &#8220;So when you have that weight of evidence, you have to take it seriously and err on the side of safety, especially since the vast majority of low grade fevers do not need to be treated.”
On the issue of treating autism symptoms with leucovorin, Makary said the drug has been around for nearly a century. However, &#8220;only recently have we recognized that some kids with autism actually have an autoimmune disease,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;The mechanism may be that the body is creating antibodies that block the folate receptors on their brain, restricting the ability of folate to get into the cerebrum. And so what that does is it actually creates a situation where you could have high levels of folate in your diet.&#8221;
Back in April, Kennedy promised his findings on autism would be dropped this month. He said at the time that new data showed that autism now affects 1 in 31 children in the U.S. – that’s nearly five times higher than when the CDC started these surveys back in 1992. Even more troubling, Kennedy also said a lot of these cases are now severe. “25% of the kids diagnosed with autism are non-verbal, non-toilet trained, have other stereotypical features: head banging, tactile and light sensitivities, stimming, toe-walking, etc.,&#8221; he said.
“Secretary Kennedy is asking questions that the American people are asking,&#8221; Makary told Morning Wire. &#8220;And so we have this odd new political landscape that&#8217;s penetrated science where you&#8217;re supposedly not allowed to ask certain questions. It&#8217;s created a tremendous amount of distrust. But I can tell you the purpose of science itself is to investigate questions.&#8221;

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he will be making a major announcement on the autism research undertaken by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.&#8217;s Department of Health and Human Services.

Reports suggest Trump and Kennedy will announce that Tylenol use during early pregnancy is linked to autism. Rates of the disorder have skyrocketed in recent years, now affecting 1 in 31 children in the U.S. An August review from Mount Sinai and Harvard researchers seems to tie Tylenol to this increased risk. 
However, the CEO of Kenvue, which makes Tylenol, has denied the association and maintains that Tylenol is a safe option for pregnant women.
The administration is also expected to announce that folinic acid could help treat autism symptoms in kids. 
In April, Kennedy promised his findings on autism would be dropped this month. The CEO of Kenvue, which makes Tylenol, reportedly had a “hastily scheduled meeting” with Kennedy last week over reports about the announcement. Perry argued in the private meeting that there is no causal link between Tylenol use during pregnancy and autism. He argued to Kennedy that Tylenol is a safe option for pregnant women, especially if they spike a fever, and added that other options do have links to birth defects.
Since early September, Kenvue stock has <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/trump-admin-report-linking-tylenol-to-autism-sends-kenvue-stock-sliding/articleshow/124049521.cms?utm_source=chatgpt.com&amp;from=mdr">dropped</a> around 15%.
When Kennedy first announced that he’d be researching the spike in autism rates, there was notable outrage from the medical establishment, legacy media, and some Democrats. They argued that Kennedy was merely pushing his “anti-vax” views and promulgating dangerous misinformation.
Even some autism organizations were unhappy. They <a href="https://autismsociety.org/statement-on-robert-f-kennedy-jr-s-comments-regarding-the-cause-of-autism-and-misleading-deadline/">condemned</a> Kennedy’s remarks, calling them “harmful, misleading, and unrealistic” and said the spike in autism cases is mostly due to better screening and diagnosis.
