Tom Hanks&#8217; wife <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rita-wilson-says-slowing-down-her-movie-career-to-raise-her-kids-wasnt-a-sacrifice-but-a-choice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rita Wilson</a> revealed the major role he turned down in the 1980s that would have been his first collaboration with three-time co-star Meg Ryan.
During the 66-year-old actress&#8217; appearance on iHeartRadio&#8217;s &#8220;<a href="https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1119-table-for-two-105373224/">Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi</a>&#8221; podcast, Wilson said Hanks had been offered the lead role in the 1989 hit &#8220;When Harry Met Sally,&#8221; <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/rita-wilson-reveals-tom-hanks-turned-down-when-harry-met-sally-could-not-understand-role?utm_campaign=later-linkinbio-foxnews&amp;utm_content=later-35866015&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=linkin.bio">Fox News</a> reported.
She said the &#8220;Splash&#8221; star couldn&#8217;t quite relate with the main character&#8217;s feeling of helplessness about the end of his marriage because Hanks — who was getting a divorce from first wife Samantha Lewes — felt differently.
&#8220;People probably don&#8217;t know this, but Tom was offered &#8216;When Harry Met Sally,&#8217; and he turned it down because he was going through a divorce, and he was very happy to be not married,&#8221; Wilson explained.

The lead male role in &#8220;When Harry Met Sally&#8221; instead went to Billy Crystal, and his performance in the film could possibly be one of his most memorable ones. In a recent Twitter post, Crystal marked his birthday with a fun side-by-side image of him now and one of a scene in the rom-com.

&#8220;The thing that doesn’t change no matter what happens, no matter what your last name is, is whether it works or not. That’s the issue anytime any of us go off and try to tell a fresh story or create something that has a beginning and a middle and an end. Doesn’t matter what our last names are. We have to do the work in order to make that a true and authentic experience for the audience,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That’s a much bigger task than worrying about whether anybody’s going to try to scathe us or not.&#8221;
Hanks&#8217; comments align fairly closely with actress <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/nepo-babies-jamie-lee-curtis-kate-hudson-fight-back-i-dont-care-where-you-come-from/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kate Hudson&#8217;s</a> assessment on the topic. Hudson was raised by her mother, actress Goldie Hawn, and stepfather Kurt Russell — and she said there was definitely a creative streak that ran through her family.
&#8220;It’s definitely in our blood. People can call it whatever they want, but it’s not going to change it,&#8221; she said. In a wide-ranging interview for <a href="https://people.com/music/rita-wilson-says-slowing-down-career-when-kids-were-young-wasnt-sacrifice-but-choice/">People</a> magazine, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/rita-wilson">66-year-old</a> actress talked about stepping away from the spotlight to raise her and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tom-hanks-says-hes-made-only-four-pretty-good-movies-during-his-entire-career">Hanks&#8217;</a> two kids and be there for her two stepkids from her husband&#8217;s earlier marriage as well.
&#8220;I slowed down my work because I really wanted to be the mom that was there when they got home, drove the carpool and did all those things,&#8221; Wilson explained.
&#8220;Tom was also working a lot, so we would travel with him,&#8221; she added. &#8220;If both of us were working and not home, my kids would have been affected. I wouldn&#8217;t call slowing down my career a sacrifice, I would call it a choice.&#8221;
Wilson started working in Hollywood at the age of 16 when she landed a role on the TV show &#8220;The Brady Bunch.&#8221; She later appeared on such shows as &#8220;Three&#8217;s Company&#8221; and &#8220;Bosom Buddies&#8221; before she made it to the big screen.
She&#8217;s probably best known for her roles in movies like &#8220;Sleepless in Seattle&#8221; and &#8220;That Thing You Do.&#8221; But as Hanks&#8217; career took off, she said one of them needed to be home. Rita said she feels no regrets about her choice and noted that the two have always been supportive of each other.

Actor <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/americas-dad-tom-hanks-hosts-a-surprisingly-funny-saturday-night-live-from-home/">Tom Hanks</a> dropped an f-bomb on a fan who got a little too close to the superstar and his wife, actress Rita Wilson, as they were leaving a New York City restaurant.
<a href="https://dailywire.com/news/tom-hanks-i-got-no-respect-for-people-who-dont-wear-masks/">Hanks</a> and Wilson were leaving a Midtown, NYC restaurant when they were surrounded by fans hoping to nab a photo or say hello — but several of them got close enough that the actor and his wife got bumped and jostled as they made their way out the door, according to a video that circulated Thursday.
Several large men — who appeared to be providing security for the power couple — could be heard warning the gathering crowd to be careful of Hanks and Wilson. &#8220;How you doin&#8217;? Be careful, Tom,&#8221; one said. &#8220;Watch out, move, move,&#8221; another added.
Once on the street, however, one fan bumped into Wilson with enough force that he almost knocked her to the ground.

Wilson responded immediately, saying, &#8220;Whoa! Guys, stop it!&#8221;
Hanks reacted right away as well, turning to address the fans. &#8220;My wife!?&#8221; he shouted, clearly angry. Placing his hands on two of the men closest to him, Hanks pressed lightly on their chests to push them back slightly. &#8220;Back the f*** up!&#8221; he yelled at the group.
&#8220;What are y&#8217;all doin&#8217;?&#8221; one member of the security team asked as the fans stepped back.
&#8220;Knocking over my wife!?&#8221; Hanks continued to shout at them.
&#8220;Yeah, they&#8217;re buggin&#8217;, sorry about that,&#8221; the man said, attempting to turn Hanks toward the waiting car.
Others could be heard shouting, &#8220;Sorry about that, Tom,&#8221; as the actor walked away, allowing the security team to steer him toward the vehicle and away from the scene.
Most of the responses to Hanks&#8217; behavior were positive.
Former NBC Executive Mike Sington called the actor&#8217;s response understandable, saying, &#8220;Tom Hanks momentarily, and understandably, loses his nice guy persona as over eager fans practically knock over his wife Rita Wilson.&#8221;

Tom Hanks’ 31-year-old son Chet Hanks may have had a charmed upbringing with lots of money, private jets, and fancy vacations. But the son of two famous people claims that not everything about his childhood was great.
Chet revealed some of the darker aspects of being the son of two celebrities (Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson) during a recent YouTube <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQvxJA7p2_Q">video</a> called, “The Truth About Growing Up As A Hanks.” 
While Chet said he’s &#8220;blessed&#8221; to be part of a family he loves, the experience of growing up with very famous parents was a &#8220;double-edged sword.&#8221; 
&#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of advantages but sometimes it can be pretty weird,&#8221; Chet said in the YouTube video. &#8220;I got to do a lot of cool s*** that a lot of people don&#8217;t get the opportunity to do. I got to travel the world, stay in nice hotels, fly on private planes and I&#8217;m very blessed for that. I wouldn&#8217;t change my situation.&#8221;
The “Empire” alum explained that many of his peers were jealous, which led to some tricky situations. It didn’t help that people’s perceptions were shaped by who his parents were and nothing he could control.
&#8220;My experience was even more complicated because on top of fame already being toxic, I wasn&#8217;t even famous,&#8221; Chet continued. &#8220;I was just the son of somebody famous so I hadn&#8217;t even done anything to deserve any sort of recognition and that created a lot of contempt.&#8221;
The actor said how this negativity pervaded throughout his schooling career, but really came to a head during his high school years.
&#8220;People would make up their minds about me before they even got the chance to know me and it was extremely hard to break down their walls,&#8221; the “Your Honor” alum said. He also explained how it gave him a “chip” on his shoulder and a &#8220;hard exterior.&#8221; 
Chet said, &#8220;People kinda did f*** with me a lot growing up. It was never to my face. It was always behind my back in the forms of gossip or s*** talking.&#8221;

Tom Hanks’ Son Chet Speaks Candidly About ‘Toxic’ Upbringing In Hollywood

Though she was sure to warn of temporary side effects from hydroxychloroquine, a drug President Donald Trump has suggested could be promising against the novel coronavirus, actress Rita Wilson said her fever broke after she took the therapeutic.
Wilson, along with her actor husband Tom Hanks, were two of the first celebrities to share with the public that they were infected with the China-originated coronavirus. As noted by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/update-tom-hanks-rita-wilson-recover-from-coronavirus-return-to-u-s">The Daily Wire</a>, the duo recovered from the virus in late March and returned home to the United States from Australia.
The &#8220;Mamma Mia&#8221; actress made the remarks about the chloroquine treatment on Tuesday morning, speaking to host Gayle King on CBS &#8220;This Morning&#8221; about the infection and her recovery.
&#8220;I felt extremely achy, uncomfortable, didn&#8217;t want to be touched, and then the fever started,&#8221; Wilson told King. &#8220;Chills like I&#8217;ve never had before.&#8221;
&#8220;On day nine, they gave me chloroquine,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;And I know people have been talking about this drug, but I can only tell you that, I don&#8217;t know if the drug worked or if it was just time for the fever to break, but my fever did break.&#8221;
Wilson went on to underscore the temporary side effects of the drug, such as nausea.
&#8220;But the chloroquine had such extreme side effects,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I was completely nauseous and I had vertigo. I could not walk and my muscles felt very weak.&#8221;
&#8220;I think people have to be very considerate about that drug,&#8221; Wilson added. &#8220;We don&#8217;t really know if it&#8217;s helpful in this case.&#8221;
In late March, “Lost” actor Daniel Dae Kim <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lost-actor-who-tested-positive-for-coronavirus-says-drug-secret-weapon-to-his-recover">credited</a> his COVID-19 recovery to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-these-two-drugs-could-be-game-changer-in-fight-against-virus">hydroxychloroquine</a>, calling it the “secret weapon” to his stabilized health.
“I need to say this in bold letters: Obviously, I am not a doctor, nor am I lawyer … So please don’t take my word as that of a medical professional,” Kim emphasized in a video posted to social media.
“That said, here is a treatment protocol I followed as prescribed by the amazing doctor,” he continued. “It was what’s called a drug cocktail, which means it’s a combination of different drugs. It consisted of Tamiflu, which is an anti-viral, the antibiotic azithromycin, more commonly known as a ‘Zpack,’ a glycopyrrolate inhaler, that was used to ease breathing and the inflammation commonly associated with COVID.”
“And here’s what I consider to be the secret weapon: hydroxychloroquine,” Kim stated. “This is a common anti-malarial drug that has been used with great success in Korea in their fight against the coronavirus. And yes, this is the drug that the president mentioned the other day.”
The actor noted it is “also the drug that Dr. Anthony Fauci cautioned us against,” noting that evidence of its effectiveness against COVID-19 is “anecdotal.”
“Well, add my name to those personal accounts, because I am feeling better,&#8221; Kim said.
Earlier this month, an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/doctors-rate-hydroxychloroquine-most-effective-coronavirus-treatment">international poll</a> of more than 6,000 doctors found hydroxychloroquine was deemed the most highly rated treatment for COVID-19.
As noted by The Daily Wire, positive results from the drugs have thus far been largely anecdotal:

Actor Tom Hanks and his actress wife Rita Wilson have returned to the United States after recovering from the China-originated novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.
&#8220;Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are coming home,&#8221; a report from <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1131458/tom-hanks-and-rita-wilson-released-from-hospital-days-after-sharing-coronavirus-diagnosis">E! News</a> said Friday. &#8220;A source close to Hanks and Wilson, who were both <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1130336/tom-hanks-and-rita-wilson-test-positive-for-the-coronavirus" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">diagnosed with coronavirus</a> two weeks ago, confirmed to E! News that they&#8217;ve returned to Los Angeles after recovering from the virus in Australia.&#8221;
A photographer captured a snapshot of the duo smiling in their car, apparently driving through Los Angeles, the outlet noted.
Hanks and Wilson were some of the first visible celebrities to test positive for the virus, giving COVID-19 a Hollywood face.
On March 11, Hanks shared a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-tom-hanks-rita-wilson-infected-with-coronavirus">statement</a> on social media announcing the positive tests and offering the public insight into their conditions.
“Hello folks,&#8221; the &#8220;Forest Gump&#8221; actor started the post. &#8220;Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had cold hands, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tests for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”
“Well, now. What to do next?&#8221; he continued. &#8220;The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”
Keeping in-line with the parents&#8217; transparency, even rapper son <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tom-hanks-son-posts-video-update-on-parents-after-they-test-positive-for-coronavirus-quickly-goes-viral">Chet Hanks</a> offered an update on the famed actors.
“What’s up everyone?” the 29-year-old said. “Yeah, it’s true. My parents got coronavirus. Crazy. They’re both down in Australia right now because my dad was shooting a movie down there.”
“I just got off the phone with them. They both are fine,” Chet, shirtless, continued. “They’re not even that sick. They’re not worried about it.”
“They’re not trippin’, but they’re going through the necessary health precautions, obviously,” he said. “But I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about.”
“I appreciated everyone’s concern and the well wishes, but I think it’s all gonna be alright,” the rapper closed. “But, I appreciate it. And, just, everybody stay safe out there. Much love.” 
Since Hanks and Wilson&#8217;s announcement, other celebrities have come forward to share that they, too, have been infected by the virus, including British actor Idris Elba and former &#8220;Lost&#8221; star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lost-actor-who-tested-positive-for-coronavirus-says-drug-secret-weapon-to-his-recover">Daniel Dae Kim</a>.
Kim is seemingly in recovery now, as well. The actor said in a video posted to social media last week that he credited his recovery to the &#8220;secret weapon&#8221; President Donald Trump-touted drug <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-these-two-drugs-could-be-game-changer-in-fight-against-virus">hydroxychloroquine</a>.
“I need to say this in bold letters: Obviously, I am not a doctor, nor am I lawyer … So please don’t take my word as that of a medical professional,” emphasized Kim.

Actor Tom Hanks and his wife, actress Rita Wilson, posted an interesting message on Thursday night while self-quarantining in response to being infected with the coronavirus, which originated in China.
&#8220;Hello folks,&#8221; Hanks began. &#8220;Rita Wilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else.&#8221;
&#8220;There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness,&#8221; the statement continued. &#8220;We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?&#8221;

The latest news from Hanks comes as numerous major events around the world and in the U.S. have been canceled in recent days to prevent further spread from the coronavirus.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau&#8217;s wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, was quarantined on Thursday after results revealed that she has been infected with the virus.
&#8220;The Prime Minister is in good health with no symptoms. As a precautionary measure and following the advice of doctors, he will be in isolation for a planned period of 14 days,&#8221; the Prime Minister&#8217;s office <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/12/americas/sophie-gregoire-trudeau-coronavirus/index.html">said</a> in a statement. &#8220;Also on the advice of doctors, he will not be tested at this stage since he has no symptoms. For the same reason, doctors say there is no risk to those who have been in contact with him recently.&#8221;
