The Indiana Republican lawmaker at the center of the conservative revolt over President Trump’s redistricting push is stepping down from leadership.
In a <a href="https://www.indianasenaterepublicans.com/bray-announces-he-will-not-seek-re-election-as-senate-president-pro-tem-in-november">surprise Friday announcement</a>, Indiana Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray said he will not seek re-election for the top leadership position in November.
“As the top caucus leader, the Pro Tem’s job is also to represent and look out for his caucus members. Given promises to recruit and fund primary challengers for any senator who supports Bray’s bid to remain the leader of the Senate, he has determined he will not put members in jeopardy from their own party simply because he is asking members to support his re-election as Pro Tem,” Bray’s office said in a statement. 
Bray will continue to represent Senate District 37, but his exit from leadership is a victory for President Trump, who has repeatedly targeted Bray over his opposition to a redistricting plan that could have delivered Republicans two more House seats.
“I am pleased to announce that the man who so foolishly led the Indiana State Senate, with almost every Candidate losing their Race, many of them in Office for years, will not be seeking Re-Election as Senate President because he wouldn’t have had a chance to be elected — Better yet would be if he would resign from Office, completely, but he will be met by us at the Indiana Polls,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/117015146759027639">post</a>.
In December 2025, the Indiana Senate voted 31-19 to reject a mid-decade congressional redistricting plan, defying intense pressure from Trump and Gov. Mike Braun. Twenty-one Republicans joined all 10 Democrats in rejecting the proposal, which would have created a 9-0 Republican congressional map. 
At the time, Bray defended his vote against the Trump-backed plan. 
“We finally have a resolution now,” Bray said, according to <a href="https://indianacitizen.org/redistricting-defeated-indiana-senate-votes-against-redrawing-congressional-map/">The Indiana Citizen</a>. &#8220;It really comes down to an issue of having the same goal, but a different way to process that. … There are some concerns that going this (redistricting) route is not the best way to get more conservative representation in Washington, D.C., from the state of Indiana.”
Shortly afterward, Trump vowed political retaliation, endorsing primary challengers against the state lawmakers, many of whom were popular, longtime incumbents. Turning Point Action also entered the fray, funding an on-the-ground campaign targeting seven lawmakers seeking reelection.
In May, the White House’s political operation targeted and successfully ousted five of the seven targeted lawmakers who voted against redistricting, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-flexes-political-muscle-against-republicans-who-bucked-him-on-redistricting?author=Drew+Berkemeyer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=13&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Flexes+Political+Muscle+Against+Republicans+Who+Bucked+Him+On+Redistricting">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported. 
Bray is the latest Republican swept up in President Trump&#8217;s campaign to purge disloyal GOP officials, joining Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), and Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) among the president&#8217;s high-profile political targets.
“Rodric Bray should be ashamed of himself for costing our Country, mainly the Republican Party, two U.S. House Seats, and for costing all of his colleagues who went along with him, an Election loss! Isn’t it amazing how Politics works?” the president wrote in his Truth Social post.

President Trump&#8217;s hand-picked candidate to succeed the late South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham is facing growing trouble in the upcoming Republican primary, according to new polling and Republican strategists.
Darline Graham entered the U.S. Senate race on July 20 following Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/im-in-lindsey-grahams-sister-makes-it-official">enthusiastic endorsement</a>, with the president encouraging Lindsey Graham&#8217;s sister to &#8220;RUN, DARLINE, RUN!&#8221; South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed her to serve out the rest of her brother&#8217;s term earlier this month. 
“I’m in,” Nordone told Fox News, acknowledging “a tremendous amount of pressure” around the decision. “I have been praying a lot, talking to my family, but with the love of my family, with the support of his staff, I know I’m a hard worker… I worked for almost 30 years for the people of this state, I feel like I can do it,” she said. 
Her optimism, however, is running up against new polling and growing skepticism that enough South Carolina Republicans are comfortable with Graham&#8217;s experience and policy credentials to send her to the U.S. Senate for a full six-year term.
“This is a woman who no one heard of at all before, and I think that that hurts her in a certain way,” Republican political consultant Ryan Girdusky said in an interview with The Daily Wire. “She&#8217;s a largely unknown entity. I mean, no one really knows her except the fact that she&#8217;s Lindsey Graham&#8217;s sister.” 
In a <a href="https://x.com/DarlineGrahamSC/status/2082808644773503145?s=20">new campaign ad</a>, Graham attempted to dispel those concerns, touting her pro-life beliefs, backing the SAVE America Act, and calling for a ban on biological men competing in women&#8217;s sports.
“I am a conservative Republican,” she said, touting Trump’s endorsement. “I approve this message, and I’m ready to serve.” 
New <a href="https://emersoncollegepolling.com/south-carolina-2026-norman-graham-lead-gop-special-primary-runoff-likely/">Emerson College polling</a> released Thursday shows Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) leading the crowded Republican field with 22% support. Darline Graham Nordone trails at 19%, followed by Rep. Russell Fry (R-SC) at 12% and former GovernorMark Sanford at 11%. Nine candidates have been certified for the August 11 primary, while roughly 25% of voters remain undecided, according to the survey. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the top two finishers will advance to an <a href="https://scvotes.gov/u-s-senate-special-republican-party-filing-primary/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">August 25 runoff</a>. 
The poll also suggests that President Trump&#8217;s political clout may not be enough to carry Graham over the finish line. A majority of voters — 53% — said Trump&#8217;s endorsement would have no impact on their vote, while 29% said it made them more likely to support Graham. Another 18% said the endorsement made them less likely to back her candidacy.
“You&#8217;re only going to have hyper-engaged people showing up. That doesn&#8217;t always speak well for the president&#8217;s base, which can be very high level, high levels of low propensity [voters] in the mix,” Girdusky said. “If Darline Graham is counting on solely the president&#8217;s supporters to carry across the finish line, it&#8217;s a very tough, tough road.&#8221; 
Rep. Ralph Norman, who endorsed Nikki Haley in the 2024 presidential primary, has a <a href="https://history.house.gov/People/Detail/15032448994?utm_source=chatgpt.com">long track record</a> in South Carolina politics. He was first elected to Congress in a special election in 2017 and served as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2007 and again from 2009 to 2017. 
“There&#8217;s nothing enormously special about him. But he, you know what you&#8217;re going to get. He is a solid conservative voter,” Girdusky said.
Norman has lined up endorsements from conservative Sens. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Mike Lee (R-UT), along with several Upstate sheriffs, the <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/07/30/conservatives-skeptical-darline-graham-south-carolina-senate-race/">Washington Post</a> reported. Fry has won the support of 40 Republican state legislators. 
<a href="https://www.dgraham.senate.gov/">Darline Graham</a> earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the College of Charleston and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from South Carolina State University. She later worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and served as head of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind. If elected, she would be the first woman from South Carolina to be elected to the upper chamber. 
Her brother, Lindsey, unexpectedly died earlier this month at his Capitol Hill home in what the medical examiner’s office believes was an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lindsey-graham-medical-examiner-releases-preliminary-cause-of-death">aortic dissection</a>. Before collapsing, Graham reportedly told a staffer he was experiencing chest pain. Graham had easily won his Republican primary in June before his sudden death upended the race. 
“I think that the president was really in a state of grief. He loved Lindsey Graham,” Girdusky said. “And he picked her, you know, very, very, very quickly.”

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump suggested Thursday that he might pull the confirmation of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche until two Republicans blocking Blanche&#8217;s confirmation have departed the Senate.
Blanche would remain as acting attorney general, the president shared on Thursday morning, slamming Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) for refusing to vote for Blanche.
Cornyn and Tillis have expressed apprehensions about Blanche, saying they would not vote to confirm Trump&#8217;s DOJ appointee until their concerns have been addressed.
Two sources familiar with the matter told The Daily Wire on Thursday evening that the DOJ had submitted a written response to both senators that addressed their concerns. But Trump&#8217;s post on Thursday morning indicated the response had not been good enough — and that he&#8217;d figure out another way to circumvent the senators.

&#8220;Remember, both Cornyn and Tillis voted for Merrick Garland, and others, too numerous to mention,&#8221; Trump said in a Truth Social post. &#8220;I have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd’s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office.&#8221;
The president described Blanche as a &#8220;star&#8221; with the &#8220;potential to go down as one of the Greatest Attorney Generals of All Time.&#8221; Trump also criticized Cornyn and Tillis for refusing to vote for Blanche, saying he had destroyed their political careers.
Cornyn had threatened to derail Blanche&#8217;s nomination over the $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund, a plan the DOJ said it had abandoned after pushback from lawmakers. On Wednesday, Cornyn told Punchbowl News that the DOJ&#8217;s written proposal did not satisfy his demands.
“They know what they need to do, but they simply refuse to do it,” Cornyn said, sharing that he had cancelled a scheduled meeting with Blanche.
After Clinton-appointed Judge Leonie Brinkema issued a temporary restraining order on the Anti-Weaponization Fund on May 29, Justice Department officials ultimately complied and dropped the matter.
“We are not moving forward with the fund, period,&#8221; Blanche testified at the time.
Trump tore into the Republicans who opposed the fund, telling the Daily Caller&#8217;s Reagan Reese from the Oval Office: “Well, Congress didn’t want it. You have to talk to Congress. The Republican senators, some of them, got very weak knees. They didn’t have the stomach for the fight.”

Maine Democratic Gov. Janet Mills on Tuesday refused to endorse Troy Jackson, the last-minute candidate party elites chose to replace accused rapist Graham Platner on the November ballot. 
In an interview with local outlet <a href="https://www.wmtw.com/article/mills-calls-collins-vulnerable-but-stops-short-of-endorsing-troy-jackson/73292374">WMTW</a>, Mills said she has not spoken with Jackson and stopped short of endorsing him, adding that she still wants to see Republican Senator Susan Collins go down in November. 
“We haven’t spoken, but clearly Susan Collins is vulnerable, and she should be — she should be defeated,” Mills said. She did not comment on whether the process her party had used to coronate Jackson as the nominee would alienate voters. 
It&#8217;s unusual for a sitting Democratic governor to withhold an endorsement from her party&#8217;s U.S. Senate nominee. Perhaps the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/maine-democrats-choose-nazi-tatted-graham-platner-in-senate-primary?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=125&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Dems+Pick+Nazi-Tatted+Graham+Platner+Even+After+%E2%80%98Predator%E2%80%99s+Paradise%E2%80%99+Photos+Surface">lingering resentment</a> stems from Mills spending months crisscrossing Maine, warning party activists and voters that Platner&#8217;s baggage would be too heavy to carry — even in a blue-leaning state. Voters, along with much of the Democratic establishment, ignored her warnings. 
The Democratic establishment viewed Mills, who was recruited and backed by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), as the strongest candidate to defeat Collins. However, Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) had different plans.

Trying to stop his momentum, Mills went on the attack against Platner in commercials, highlighting his scandals and running with the tagline, &#8220;<a href="https://x.com/AdImpact_Pol/status/2033915569401958580?s=20">Graham Platner: The closer you look, the worse it gets</a>.&#8221; One advertisement in particular featured older women expressing disgust. 
Ultimately, her strategy failed to gain traction with an increasingly restless base eager to buck their party’s establishment. On April 30, Mills suspended her campaign. 
“While I have the drive and passion, commitment and experience, and above all else — the fight — to continue on, I very simply do not have the one thing that political campaigns unfortunately require today: the financial resources,” <a href="https://x.com/JanetMillsforME/status/2049832653189152925?s=20">Mills said in a statement</a>. 
Now that Platner is off the ballot, Democrats face a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/likely-platner-replacement-used-to-be-normal-before-the-activists-got-to-him?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=27&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Likely+Platner+Replacement+Used+To+Be+Normal%2C+Before+The+Activists+Got+To+Him">new challenge</a>: rallying their base behind a nominee who previously opposed abortion and same-sex marriage and is known for a history of public outbursts.
Republicans hope to use Jackson&#8217;s conservative past and his new leftward platform as a wedge issue, arguing the shift will alienate voters across the political spectrum and help propel Collins to victory in November.

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Monday said he is still recovering at a rehabilitation facility from a June medical episode, according to another health update from his office. 
In the statement, the Republican said he&#8217;s still undergoing treatment and won&#8217;t be attending local events this weekend. 
“I’m still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders. Unfortunately, that means I won’t be able to make it to Fancy Farm, Kentucky this Saturday,” he said,<a href="https://www.wlky.com/article/sen-mitch-mcconnell-written-statement-photo-july-27/73274265"> according to local outlet WLKY.</a> “As always, I appreciate all of your continued well wishes, and I’m looking forward to getting back to the Senate and to Kentucky soon.”
The health update included a fresh photo with his wife, Elaine Chao, and also provided a statement from McConnell’s physician.

“Senator McConnell continues his recovery from a fall at home in June. OAP physicians visit with the Senator every day, discussing all aspects of his rehabilitation care,” the Office of the Attending Physician said. “Since his discharge from hospital care, he has maintained a strenuous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation, including multiple sessions a day designed to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls.”
&#8220;His bout with childhood polio continues to be a significant factor in his mobility. He is not yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility and return to the office,” the OAP added. 
The 84-year-old’s extended hospitalization has fueled mounting questions about both his health and what would happen if Kentucky’s longest-serving senator were unable to complete his final term. The lack of information sparked widespread speculation online. Still, it has also drawn renewed attention to an unusual wrinkle in Kentucky election law that could become significant if McConnell were to resign or otherwise vacate his seat before his term expires in January 2027. With a Democrat occupying the governor’s office, Republican lawmakers<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kentucky-legislature-senate-vacancies-faf6f1f41fa42c3e0b818fc3fb3d4d4a"> recently moved</a> to eliminate the governor’s appointment authority in favor of a special election process.

Republicans appear to support a bipartisan bill led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), but the legislation remains stalled amid reported concerns that giving the Democratic socialist a legislative victory could fuel her presidential ambitions.  
<a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/1837/text">The DEFIANCE Act</a> (Disrupt Explicit Forged Images And Non-Consensual Edits Act) would create a federal civil cause of action allowing victims of non-consensual sexually explicit deepfakes to sue those who create or distribute fake nude or sexual images without their consent. 
Under the bill, victims could recover up to $250,000 in damages in cases involving sexual assault, stalking, or harassment, earning support from leftists, conservative Republicans, and Hollywood figures such as Paris Hilton.
AOC first introduced the legislation last year. In January, the U.S. Senate passed it unanimously.
“I want to thank the Senate cosponsors of this legislation, including my Republican co-lead, Senator Lindsey Graham,” Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) <a href="https://www.durbin.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/durbin-successfully-passes-bill-to-combat-nonconsensual-sexually-explicit-deepfake-images">said</a> at the time. “Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez herself is a publicly confessed victim of explicit deepfakes. I commend her for working to create tools for victims in the fight against this despicable crime.” 
Despite bipartisan support, the bill remains stalled in the Republican-led House. <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2026/07/23/paris-hilton-and-the-politics-of-defiance-01009283?nname=playbook&amp;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&amp;nrid=5c65d8fa-b7c7-44e5-98d0-43e6086e71cd">Politico reported</a> Thursday that some Republicans worry passing AOC&#8217;s legislation could hand the New York congresswoman a political victory as she emerges as a potential 2028 presidential contender. 
“It’s a shame that this bill isn’t law because they are unwilling to give AOC a win,” one person working on the bill told the outlet. “When you look at it, everything is aligned for it to pass, except that they don’t want her to have this.”
“We’re depriving many, many people of the ability to set their lives right just to prevent one member of Congress from being able to pass a bill,” another person said, according to Politico. 
Ocasio-Cortez has blamed the delay on House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH). Earlier this month,<a href="https://x.com/EricMGarcia/status/2077191769477791989?s=20"> she told The Independent</a> that the bill passed the Senate unanimously with Republican support, adding that people should &#8220;ask Jim Jordan&#8221; why it has yet to advance.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told reporters Tuesday that he supports the legislation but was unsure of its status in committee, according to Politico. 
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed the bipartisan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-melania-backed-bill-to-fight-deepfake-revenge-porn">TAKE IT DOWN Act</a>, championed by first lady Melania Trump, into law. The measure criminalizes the non-consensual online distribution of intimate images, including AI-generated deepfakes.
The impasse comes days after a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-new-2028-poll-just-shook-up-both-parties?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=5&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=A+New+2028+Poll+Just+Shook+Up+Both+Parties">New Hampshire primary poll</a> signaled an early shake-up in the 2028 Democratic presidential race, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) leading the field.
The Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, shows the Democratic socialist leading the hypothetical Democratic field with 22% support, narrowly ahead of former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 21%. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) placed third with 9%.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) lashed out at White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday after she said the president’s &#8220;patience is running out&#8221; over the failure to pass the SAVE America Act.
The back-and-forth began with a question from The Daily Caller&#8217;s Reagan Reese during the White House briefing.
“Look, the president spoke about this directly yesterday. His patience is running out. He wants to see as much of the SAVE America [Act] passed as possible by the August recess,” Leavitt said to reporters. “The American people elected overwhelmingly Republicans to lead, not just this White House, but also the House and the Senate. The House did its job. The Senate needs to do its job, too.”
A few miles away on Capitol Hill, Thune fired back, telling the White House to pick up the phone and whip the votes. 
&#8220;Well, maybe she or somebody else ought to get on the phone and get the votes. Right? It’s 50 around here. And, so, instead of pointing the finger at Republicans, they might think about going after the people who are stopping it on the floor, which is the Democrats,” Thune <a href="https://x.com/MaryMargOlohan/status/2080339641119473680?s=20">told</a> reporters in the halls of the Senate Thursday.

It’s the latest escalation after Trump on Wednesday ramped up his pressure campaign against Thune, urging supporters to flood his office with calls demanding action on the popular election security legislation. 
“We have to pass the SAVE America Act to defend American elections. And I have to say, Mike Johnson and Congress have done a great job, but we’re having a hard time in the Senate,” Trump said at a <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/2080034029487685876?s=20">rally</a> in Georgia. “It’s like the Senate is a place where you send things when you want them to die.” 
“We’re not going to take this any longer … I’m trying to be nice,” Trump added. “Everybody call John Thune at the Senate. He’s the leader of the Republican party, and tell him to get this stuff approved!”
Trump also renewed his call to eliminate the filibuster, arguing Democrats would quickly abolish the 60-vote threshold themselves if they regain power.
“The Democrats are going to terminate the filibuster as soon as they have a chance, and then they’re going to approve Puerto Rico and D.C. as a state. They got four more senators. They’re going to end up with 12 more congressmen. They’re going to get like 40 electoral votes,” the president said. 
Trump’s remarks came hours after the House passed a third version of the election integrity measure by attaching it to the GOP-backed Stop Insider Trading Act, legislation that would ban members of Congress from buying and selling stocks.
The combined bill passed 232-198, with 13 Democrats joining Republicans to advance the measure, marking the first congressional stock-trading ban to receive a House floor vote, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-turns-up-heat-on-thune-over-save-act?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Turns+Up+Heat+On+Thune+Over+SAVE+Act">reported</a>. 
Frustration with Thune isn’t limited to the White House. House Republicans who have repeatedly passed the legislation have also grown increasingly vocal about the Senate’s inaction.
“If John Thune has shown that he does not want to put the SAVE America Act on the Senate floor, he should step aside,” Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) <a href="https://x.com/RepOgles/status/2080028930518495258?s=20">said</a> on social media. “There are plenty of other options in the Senate capable of securing our elections as Majority Leader.”

A new Republican-backed bill that would grant amnesty to illegal immigrant agricultural workers is facing an onslaught of criticism from immigration hawks.
House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn &#8220;GT&#8221; Thompson (R-PA) recently introduced the Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act to provide illegal immigrant farmworkers with a path to temporary legal status.
Gregory Bovino, who led the Trump administration&#8217;s aggressive deportation sweeps in Minneapolis and other major cities before his recent retirement from Border Patrol, <a href="https://x.com/GregoryKBovino/status/2079545595359092890">said</a> the Republican lawmakers backing the bill &#8220;just stabbed Trump’s deportation promise in the back.&#8221;
&#8220;They’re only gonna get the message one way. Vote every single one of them out in a massive wave, and replace them with real immigration hawks. Anything less, and they’ll never take us seriously,&#8221; Bovino wrote on X Tuesday.

In a recent Newsmax appearance, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) came out in opposition to the bill, saying it provides illegal immigrants with a &#8220;pathway to citizenship&#8221; without offering &#8220;comprehensive reform.&#8221;
&#8220;So we have a lot of work to do on immigration. Look, we know the immigration system is broken, that&#8217;s why I carry most of the legislation on immigration, fixing immigration. But as we have this conversation, there can be no amnesty as part of that conversation,&#8221; Ogles said.
&#8220;Look, if you want to get a work visa, that&#8217;s one thing, but you also have to understand that if you want to become a citizen, you need to go back to your country, and you need to apply the right way and you need to stand in line like everyone else,&#8221; he added.
Jeremy Beck, co-President of NumbersUSA, <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/no-amnesty-calls-grow-over-bill-to-aid-immigrant-farm-workers-12223448">told</a> Newsweek that the bill is &#8220;an amnesty for employers engaged in illegal hiring,&#8221; adding that &#8220;It allows hundreds of thousands of illegal workers to stay as long as they indenture themselves to the agricultural industry.&#8221;
&#8220;Then the bill lowers workers&#8217; wages and deducts the cost of housing from their paychecks,&#8221; Beck said.
&#8220;No amnesty!&#8221; Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis said in response to the bill. &#8220;Amnesty is NOT what people voted for in 2024!&#8221;

The bill would meet the demands of farm industry giants, including by allowing farms to employ H-2A migrant farmworkers for year-round labor, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2026/07/22/no-amnesty-migrant-farmworker-bill-opens-major-rift-within-gop-01007072" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Politico.
“[The bill] does acknowledge that dairy farmers have never had a workable ag-labor visa program, and it provides a short-term mechanism that will avoid massive disruptions to its workforce, which would in turn devastate family farms, create supply chain disruptions, and increase consumer costs,” Gregg Doud, president and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation, said in a statement.
John Hollay, president and CEO of the National Council of Agricultural Employers, said the bill “follows through on President Trump’s promise from last Spring to protect American agriculture and seeks to codify a system that will ensure all of agriculture has access to a legal workforce when Americans won’t do the job,&#8221; according to Politico.
Thompson argues that the bill is needed to address a years-long farm &#8220;labor crisis.&#8221;
&#8220;They can&#8217;t get the help they need to harvest their crops and astronomical labor costs have pushed many lifelong farmers to the brink of bankruptcy,&#8221; Thompson <a href="https://www.facebook.com/reel/872828202078448">said</a>.
&#8220;This is happening because the very program that once kept farmers in business is sinking under the weight of bureaucratic costs. Without reform, the H-2A visa program may now be the reason these same farms cannot be passed on to the next generation,&#8221; he said.

Earlier this year, I formed <a href="https://www.homelandpac.com/">Homeland PAC</a>, a federal Super PAC with the goal of holding politicians accountable for supporting amnesty for illegal aliens. I was almost immediately dismissed by members of Congress and Washington, D.C. insiders because they believed the PAC was redundant in the age of Trump.
Yet, we are 10 years into the Trump Revolution, and still Republicans who waved signs claiming they support mass deportation are still campaigning for amnesty. Every two years, a bloc of Republicans in Congress quietly put their names on bills that would legalize those same undocumented persons in direct contrast to President Trump’s, and the American people’s, agenda.
This is not about one rogue bill, but a pattern among congressional Republicans to talk tough on the border and then turn around to benefit a non-citizen population at the expense of their own constituents. Across the 118th and 119th Congresses, a consistent group of Republicans has backed legislation to convert illegal workers into legal ones through guest-worker conversions, renewable &#8220;dignity&#8221; status, or an outright green-card track for farm labor, and shielding companies that hire them from penalties. That is amnesty in substance, and the members carrying it are on the ballot in the midterms.
Let me be clear about the word, because its defenders will spend a great deal of energy on definitions. When I say amnesty, I do not mean only a path to citizenship. I mean the mass legalization of an illegal workforce — taking people who entered or worked in this country unlawfully and granting them legal status and the right to keep working. Whether the reward is a green card, a renewable permit, or a guest-worker visa laundered clean of prior violations, the result is the same: you can break the law to work here, and Congress will regularize you after the fact.
Three bills in the current Congress carry the pattern. The most sweeping is the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, reintroduced this session as H.R. 3227 (FWMA). It creates a new &#8220;certified agricultural worker&#8221; status for illegal farmhands and, for those who keep at it, a paid path to a green card. It has cleared the House twice in past Congresses, and this year it was brought back by a bipartisan group that included Republicans David Valadao, Mike Simpson, Maria Salazar, and Dan Newhouse.
Then there is the Dignity Act, H.R. 4393, the third version Representative María Elvira Salazar has authored since 2022. Its centerpiece, the Dignity Program, offers legal status, full work authorization, and indefinite renewable protection from deportation to illegal immigrants here since Biden’s border surge in 2021, in exchange for restitution and back taxes. The Dignity Program itself stops short of citizenship, but the bill folds in a separate Dreamer provision that carries Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients toward it.
The third is Chairman Glenn Thompson&#8217;s Securing Agriculture&#8217;s Workforce Act, H.R. 9535 (SAWA). Most of it modernizes the H-2A guest-worker program, but tucked inside is a mechanism that lets illegal workers already here convert to legal H-2A status while waiving prior immigration violations, effectively rewarding unlawful presence in the United States.
The 2013 Obama-backed bill to legalize millions of undocumented immigrants failed, but just because the establishment couldn’t get it done does not mean they stopped trying. There is a distinct cohort of Republicans who chose to co-sponsor or even lead legislation that would achieve the same effect, just buried deep in the text.
Start with the smallest and most damning circle. Only four Republicans signed the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, the one bill that runs all the way to a green card — and three of them went on to back all three of the 119th Congress&#8217; legalization measures. María Elvira Salazar of Florida wrote the Dignity Act, then added her name to the farm bill and the agriculture bill besides. David Valadao of California was an original cosponsor of all three. Dan Newhouse of Washington rounded out the trio, but is retiring. Which means two of the three most committed legalizers in the House Republican conference are asking the voters to send them back.
Another group joined two of the three: Mike Simpson of Idaho joined the farm and agriculture bills. James Baird of Indiana, Mike Kelly and Lloyd Smucker of Pennsylvania, Gabe Evans of Colorado, and Monica De La Cruz of Texas each backed both the Dignity Act and the agriculture bill; Don Bacon of Nebraska did the same and, like Newhouse, is heading for the exits. Tally it up and 10 House Republicans cosponsored two or more of this Congress&#8217; legalization bills. Eight of those 10 want two more years in Congress.
On the Securing America’s Workforce Act alone, however, there are 37 Republicans:
Randy Feenstra (IA-04), David Rouzer (NC-07), Trent Kelly (MS-01), Celeste Maloy (UT-02), Nicholas Langworthy (NY-23), Pete Sessions (TX-17), Julie Fedorchak (ND-At Large), Claudia Tenney (NY-24), Mike Rogers (AL-03), Daniel Meuser (PA-09), John Moolenaar (MI-02), Joe Wilson (SC-02), Robert Wittman (VA-01), David Kustoff (TN-08), Chuck Edwards (NC-11), Laurel Lee (FL-15), David Taylor (OH-02), Rick Allen (GA-12), Michelle Fischbach (MN-07), Bill Huizenga (MI-04), Brett Guthrie (KY-02), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Mike Flood (NE-01), Austin Scott (GA-08), Brad Finstad (MN-01), Cliff Bentz (OR-02), Mike Bost (IL-12), Mark Messmer (IN-08), Troy Downing (MT-02), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01), Darin LaHood (IL-16), Tim Moore (NC-14), Jefferson Van Drew (NJ-02), Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03), Richard Hudson (NC-09), and two retiring members; Michael McCaul (TX-10), Ryan Zinke (MT-01).
Rep. Richard Hudson is no backbencher: he chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee, the operation charged with re-electing the House majority, which means the man running the campaign to keep Republicans in power has just endorsed legalizing an illegal workforce.
These members will say that none of the bills are amnesty because they don’t grant de jure citizenship, but providing legal status and workforce authorization provides the permission structure for undocumented migrants to continue coming into the country and abusing our birthright citizenship process in the hopes they won’t be deported. It does not matter if the justification of the bill is out of humanitarian duty, corporate influence, or a misguided idea of what being American is. Supporters of these bills are actively working against the interests of not only American workers, but the base of the party they belong to.
Americans across the country are tired of their elected officials ignoring their concerns in favor of non-citizens. A country that wants to build things and become great again has to prize the people who do the building and the work to make it happen. You cannot lower home prices, improve wages, or reshore industry on a foundation of imported illegal labor.
In this midterm and beyond, the Republican Party has a chance to prove it cares about the working-class and President Trump’s agenda. These members would do well to remember that the American people won’t accept a subsidy to foreign labor at the expense of their own.

House Republicans urged the Justice Department to prosecute former special counsel Jack Smith after new revelations that his team obtained text messages from dozens of members of Congress as part of their investigation into President Donald Trump. 
House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) sent a <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2026-07-22-jdj-to-doj-blanche-re-smith-referral.pdf">criminal referral</a> Wednesday to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche accusing Smith of lying to lawmakers about the text messages. Documents released last week by Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jack-smith-surveilled-dozens-of-members-of-congress-as-part-of-trump-investigation">show</a> that Smith’s investigative team accessed text messages involving 44 members of Congress, including both Republicans and Democrats, during their investigation into the 2020 election. 
“Mr. Smith and the Biden-Harris DOJ barely considered the Constitution as they seized these records of Congressional Republicans — and to the extent that they did, subject matter experts within DOJ warned that their subpoenas might be unconstitutional,” Jordan wrote to Blanche
Reacting to the news of the criminal referral, Trump questioned on Truth Social, “Justice at last???”
The records appear to indicate that Smith’s team bypassed a Justice Department “Filter Team” that had been established to review potentially privileged communications before investigators could access them.
Jordan said that the revelations appear to conflict with what Smith said during a December 2025 deposition when he told lawmakers that he did not request to see the content of lawmakers&#8217; text messages. Smith claimed he only asked for data on information about the timing and where the texts were going. Jordan said that Smith could be prosecuted for making false statements to Congress based on this testimony. 
“In light of the new information detailing that Mr. Smith’s team did have access to content of Members’ text messages and the fact that Mr. Smith made false statements regarding this information during his deposition, suggests that he willingly and knowingly made false representations to the Committee,&#8221; Jordan said.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, argued that Smith was forthcoming because the texts involving the 44 lawmakers were obtained through requests to the National Archives, not subpoenas. He said that Jordan went after Smith “for not reading the minds of congressional investigators and for not volunteering information they didn&#8217;t ask for.”

Mikie Sherrill revealed Tuesday that the state’s Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) mistakenly registered roughly 6,600 non-citizens despite their indicating they were not U.S. citizens while applying for IDs and driver’s licenses between June 2023 and June 2024, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-jersey-registered-thousands-of-non-citizens-to-vote-due-to-software-error?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=New+Jersey+Registered+Thousands+Of+Non-Citizens+To+Vote+Due+To+%E2%80%98Software+Error%E2%80%99">The Daily Wire reported. </a>
“These individuals answered ‘no’ when asked on a keypad whether they were a U.S. citizen when applying for drivers’ licenses and identification cards, but through no fault of their own, the system registered them anyway,” Sherrill <a href="https://x.com/GovSherrillNJ/status/2079602942722662725">wrote</a> in an X post.
Trump administration officials have said the non-citizens who illegally voted could face prosecution and deportation. 
&#8220;People need to see the consequences of voting when you&#8217;re not allowed to,” Harmeet Dhillon, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/2079992093800280377?s=20">told</a> conservative podcast host Benny Johnson. 
Back on Capitol Hill, Democrats argued the stock trading ban didn&#8217;t go far enough, but ultimately opposed the bill because it included provisions from the SAVE America Act.
“Republicans have corrupted their so-called stock trading bill with a decaying piece of the SAVE American Act corpse,” Rep. Joseph Morelle (D-N.Y.) Morelle said, according to <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2026/07/22/congress/house-votes-to-restrict-congress-ability-to-purchase-and-sell-stocks-01008697">Politico</a>.
The bill now moves to the Senate, where it faces an uncertain path forward.

A new New Hampshire primary poll points to an early shake-up in the 2028 presidential race, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) leading the Democratic field while Secretary of State Marco Rubio gains ground on Vice President JD Vance among Republicans.
<a href="https://scholars.unh.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1982&amp;amp;context=survey_center_polls">The Granite State Poll,</a> conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, shows the Democratic socialist leading the hypothetical Democratic field with 22% support, narrowly ahead of former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 21%. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) placed third with 9%. 
Notably, the quarterly survey showed support slipping sharply for several other potential Democratic contenders, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris. Newsom&#8217;s support in the Granite State fell from 15% in February to just 8% in July. Harris, the failed 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, also saw her support cut in half, falling from 10% in February to 5% in July. 
“Nearly half of socialists and one-third of progressives support Ocasio-Cortez, while pluralities of liberals and moderates support Buttigieg,” the polling report said.

New Hampshire remains one of the nation&#8217;s most closely watched political battlegrounds, with its early primary serving as a crucial measure of presidential candidates&#8217; viability on the national stage. 
On the Republican side, the poll showed support for Vice President Vance slipping significantly. About 36% of likely GOP primary voters backed Vance, down sharply from 53% in February. Rubio appeared to capitalize on the shift, more than tripling his support from 7% to 26%.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley tied for third place at 8%. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis finished fifth with 6%, followed by former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard with 4%. 
Despite his decline, Vance enjoyed the highest favorability rating among New Hampshire Republican primary voters. The survey found GOP voters overwhelmingly want the party&#8217;s next nominee to build on President Donald Trump&#8217;s agenda, while only 28% said they preferred a candidate who would take the party in a different direction.
Neither Vance nor Rubio has publicly announced a presidential campaign. Still, Trump&#8217;s endorsement could prove decisive. More than 40% of Republican primary voters surveyed said his backing would significantly influence their vote.
