Republicans are moving closer to doing something that, in modern American politics, simply isn’t done: holding a national convention in the middle of a midterm election year. At its winter meeting on Friday, the Republican National Committee <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2026/01/23/republicans-take-steps-towards-midterm-convention-00744673">approved</a> a rule change that would explicitly authorize the party to hold a “special ceremonial convention” between presidential cycles — clearing the procedural path for a midterm convention later this year.
RNC Chairman Joe Gruters framed the move as preparation rather than a final commitment, but his enthusiasm was unmistakable. He said the party is eager to showcase what President Donald Trump and Republicans have accomplished and wants to be ready if Trump gives the green light. The amendment passed without objection, though the timing was notable: many RNC members had already departed to beat winter storms when the vote occurred.
The rule change formalizes what Trump first floated publicly in September, when he announced that Republicans would hold a “Midterm Convention.” The motivation is clear. A midterm convention would give Republicans a nationally televised platform to tout administration victories, sharpen contrasts with Democrats, energize the base, and elevate candidates in battleground congressional races as the party fights to retain control of Congress.
In the modern era, national conventions have been reserved for presidential election years, but the concept itself is not unprecedented. Democrats experimented with midterm-year conventions in the 1970s and are now quietly revisiting the idea. During recent Democratic National Committee meetings in Los Angeles, officials from states like Nebraska and Utah expressed interest in hosting a potential midterm gathering of their own.
Historically, conventions have evolved alongside American politics. The first national political convention was held in 1831 by the Anti-Masonic Party. Democrats followed a year later, and the Whigs — the Republican Party’s ideological predecessor — held their own in 1839. Republicans convened for the first time in 1856. While the two major parties have never skipped their four-year convention rhythm, smaller parties often met irregularly, adapting to political circumstances.
Trump has argued that a midterm convention makes sense in a moment of perceived momentum. In an August 2025 Truth Social <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115106822268468130">post</a>, he pointed to fundraising advantages, electoral success, and policy wins as justification for breaking tradition. Holding a convention every two years, proponents argue, could boost fundraising and allow parties to recalibrate their message in real time.
Details remain unresolved. Republicans have yet to announce a location or date, though Nevada GOP leaders are pushing for Las Vegas. What is clear is that the GOP is laying the groundwork for a political spectacle designed to keep the spotlight — and the narrative — firmly in Republican hands.

Writing on <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115106822268468130">Truth Social</a>, Trump stated:

Interestingly, the first national political convention in the United States was held in 1831 by the Anti-Masonic Party in Baltimore, Maryland. One year later, the Democratic Party held its first national convention, also in Baltimore, nominating Andrew Jackson for re-election. In 1839, the Whig Party, the predecessor to the Republican Party, which was founded in response to Jackson in the early 1830s, held its first national convention in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The Republican Party held its first national convention in 1856, at which it nominated the famed explorer and U.S. Senator John Fremont.
Neither the Republican Party nor the Democratic Party has ever skipped a convention every four years since they started the practice. Smaller parties, such as the Free Soil Party, the Know-Nothings, and the Progressives, held their conventions irregularly.
Some possible advantages of holding a national political convention every two years include increasing fundraising opportunities and providing the party with more frequent opportunities to address its platform in response to current events or shifting public opinion.

‘Never Been Done Before’: Trump Pushes For GOP National Convention Before Midterms

Ohio Senator and GOP vice presidential nominee <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jd-vance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JD Vance</a> said on Thursday that his 7-year-old son was trying to talk to him about Pokemon as former President Donald Trump called him about joining his ticket.
Vance made the comments on the “Full Send Podcast” when asked by the Nelk Boys after being asked about finding out that Trump had selected him as his vice president pick. He said that his son was interrupting his call with Trump to try to talk to him about Pikachu, a yellow creature with electrical abilities from the Pokemon universe. 
The Ohio Republican began by talking about how when he flew to Milwaulkee for the Republican National Convention he didn’t have WiFi on the plane so he had no idea what was going on. When he landed he said he had hundreds of messages. 
“And I land and I’ve got like 350 messages,” he said.  “And one of them is from somebody on the Trump campaign and says, ‘Hey, you know, check your phone. Make sure you don&#8217;t miss a call because a really important call is coming.’”

“JD, you missed a very important phone call and now I&#8217;m gonna have to pick somebody else,” Vance said Trump told him as he tensed up. 
“The crazy thing about it is my son, who’s 7, is in the hotel room with me, and he’s really into Pokemon cards right now. He’s going through a Pokemon phase right now,” he said. “So he’s trying to talk to me about Pikachu and I’m on the phone with Donald Trump.”
Joking, he said that he asked his son to “shut the hell up for about 30 seconds about Pikachu.” 
“This is the most important phone call of my life,” he said. “Please just let me take this phone call. And he doesn’t care. He doesn&#8217;t know what the President of the United States means.”
He said Trump asked who was speaking and told him to put his son on speaker phone. 
“Trump proceeds to read the statement that he’s about to put out making me his vp nominee,” he said. Vance said Trump asked his son what he thought of the statement and his son said, “Oh, it sounds pretty good.” 
“He hangs up the phone and the statement goes out five minutes later and then my whole life changed,” Vance concluded.

The following is an edited transcript of a special <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/podcasts/morning-wire/mike-waltz-on-secret-service-response-rnc-extra" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RNC episode</a> of Morning Wire. Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley sits down with Florida Congressman Mike Waltz to discuss the controversy surrounding the Secret Service’s response to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life.
Former President Trump says that when he has a question about the military, the first person he calls is Florida Congressman Mike Waltz. A former member of the Green Berets, Waltz now sits on both the House Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, and Intelligence committees. Waltz joined the Daily Wire at the RNC to discuss the Trump assassination attempt as well as the threats America is facing on the global stage.

JOHN: Joining us now is Florida Congressman Mike Waltz. Congressman, great to have you here. So I wanted to start with the attempt on Donald Trump&#8217;s life. There have been a lot of questions about the security response that fateful day where a heroic father&#8217;s life was taken. The president was a fraction of an inch from losing his life. First, are the criticisms we&#8217;re hearing directed at the Secret Service and local law enforcement, are they merited?
MIKE: Well first, let me just say a quick thing about the president. Because I have been in combat all over the world — Africa, the Middle East — I’ve been fired upon, I&#8217;ve seen men fired upon, and your base instincts kick in. I&#8217;ve seen base instincts kick in to run, hide, get behind cover, and I&#8217;ve seen the base instinct of stand strong, move to the sound of the guns, and he clearly had the latter. And then the instinct, despite all of it, of everything going on and almost losing his life, to make sure the crowd knew he was okay and that the country knew he was okay, which I thought really spoke to his character. Look, I have mixed feelings about the entire response. Clearly, there were some key things missed in the advance. I thought the reaction was absolutely appropriate, both the body bunker with the close-in detail and the counter sniper. At the end of the day, my prediction and what I&#8217;m hearing from agents who have been reaching out to me very frustrated and upset is that we&#8217;re going to see this was a resources issue. What do I mean by that? Well, what they have been telling me, the agents reaching out, is basically Trump was given a standard package for former presidents. The problem was he&#8217;s not a standard former president. He&#8217;s not a Jimmy Carter or George W. Bush painting in his barn. Between his multiple residences, between all of the rallies going on, and he didn&#8217;t just have a standard amount of domestic threats, he had foreign threats, particularly from the Iranians. All of that, to me, right out of the gate, merited a much larger package. These agents are telling me they repeatedly asked headquarters for it and were repeatedly denied.

JOHN: Now, we&#8217;ve been told from the head of the Secret Service those claims are not true, but you&#8217;re saying you have heard repeatedly that that is true.
MIKE: That&#8217;s absolutely right. These are not just agents calling out of the blue, they&#8217;re the ones who would have direct knowledge. I suspect, I don&#8217;t know yet — we&#8217;re going to have our hearings in Congress and hopefully get this out — but I think the Secret Service is splitting hairs here. If you say I gave them two more agents or I gave them one more sniper team, then you can credibly say, well, we gave the Trump campaign more resources. But if the request was for 20 or 30, then it was nowhere nearly sufficient. And obviously it wasn&#8217;t, given that some kid could get that close to taking down the president of the United States. Clearly there was a failure here. So that immediate pushback from the Secret Service gives me a lot of pause. And then other than that, it&#8217;s been silence. The fact that the director hasn&#8217;t come out, reassured the country, and answered what questions she should also gives me pause.

JOHN: Speaking of the director, there&#8217;s been a lot of reporting on her DEI focus, specifically wanting to get 30% of new enrollments to be female. Do you think there&#8217;s a problem at the top with the Secret Service?
MIKE: Well, I think there&#8217;s a problem with this entire ideological agenda, whether it&#8217;s pilots in the Air Force or forcing women into combat arms. Look, at the end of the day it&#8217;s about standards, not skin color, not gender, anything else. What are the standards to do the job, to be the best of the best? And if you hit them, great. And if you&#8217;re a woman, you hit them, great. But the thing is we&#8217;re dealing with this in the military. I&#8217;m on the Armed Services Committee, actually the women who are hitting the standards to get through Ranger School, Special Forces, or what have you, when they see women basically getting kind of pushed through, it undermines their achievement. They&#8217;re the ones that are most upset.
JOHN: Absolutely. Stepping back and looking at this election year, do you feel like we are in a heightened political environment in terms of risk to various candidates, specifically President Trump? In general, is this a heightened situation in the country right now?
MIKE: Yes, I think it is but we also have to take a step back and put it into perspective. It has been, what, decades since we&#8217;ve had an assassination attempt. You go back to 1968 when you lose a civil rights leader and an attorney general in the wake of losing a president. We have had worse moments in our history. For sure in terms of political vitriol. I think what&#8217;s so unique about this case, though, is it really was the thrust of the campaign for the Democrats — to demonize Trump, to put fear into people&#8217;s hearts that he will be a dictator who will take away their rights. I&#8217;m glad to see President Biden pulling back on that, we&#8217;ll see if they stick to it.
JOHN: Yeah, for now. Looking outward a bit, you mentioned foreign threats to President Trump. Of course, there&#8217;s foreign threats to the United States, generally speaking. What are the biggest threats that you think the American military and our intelligence agencies need to be keyed in on at this particular moment?
MIKE: Well, first and foremost is China, and everything else is a distant second. We have never faced an adversary that could economically, diplomatically, from an information space and now militarily, not only compete with us but in some ways they are exceeding us. When you look at weapons like hypersonic missiles, first strike missiles that we truly struggle to defend against. Their Navy is now larger than the U.S. Navy. Their Space Force is launching more than ours. They&#8217;re doing things in space that we struggle to do, like putting a rover on the backside of the moon. So, we have to put everything we&#8217;ve got into deterring that threat. We can&#8217;t take the approach that Biden has taken, which is to start trickling things in after the invasion has occurred, as he did in Ukraine. You have to stop it on the front end. Look, we will have to deal with terrorism, North Korea, Iran — particularly Iran. Then you get into the question of rationality if the ayatollahs have a nuke. That is very different than the Russians or Chinese or irrationality I should say. So the real question is, how do we deal with all of that with $35 trillion in debt and growing?

JOHN: Do you believe a Trump second term will actually result in a safer America?
MIKE: I am utterly convinced of it. I truly am. If you just look at Iran, which I mentioned what&#8217;s going on in Israel and what&#8217;s going on in Gaza, President Trump knows that the heart of the issue is Iran — that is behind Hezbollah, that&#8217;s behind Hamas, that&#8217;s behind the Houthis. The heart of Iran&#8217;s economy is energy. If you flood the world with cheap, clean American oil and gas, not only you take care of our inflation problem at home, you put Russia on its back foot and dry up its war machine and Iran too. So he fully appreciates that we are blessed with a lot of oil and gas, that we are blessed with a strong economy and a great system. Our true strength is our economic strength.
JOHN: Now, President Trump has reached out to you a number of times. He’s cited you as his go-to guy for security questions. What kind of steps do you think he will take, and would you advise him to take, in the first year?
MIKE: Well, first, I think we need accountability in the Pentagon. We need to clean house. The fact that things cost way too much, take twice as long as they should, and deliver half as much as our troops deserve, it&#8217;s just completely unsustainable. And yet you see these weapon systems, the ships, like the littoral combat ship that just completely blow up the budget, don&#8217;t deliver, and no one&#8217;s fired. There&#8217;s just no accountability for it. Kind of a shoulder shrug and give us another $800 billion. I see it on the Armed Services Committee. So, I would say that&#8217;s one. Two, really taking a hard look at our industrial base. Shipbuilding, for example. Do we have the steel, the aluminum, the workers, the shipyards? I&#8217;ve talked to them a lot about it. We&#8217;ve gone from 300 shipyards to 20 over the last couple of decades. Who&#8217;s taken all of that business? China. They could literally shut down global trade by shutting down those ships and that shipbuilding industry. So that will be point two. And then number three, I think bringing in new technologies. In a way, JD Vance will know quite well, working with the tech space and working with the startup and private equity space. We have to move away from these legacy, big, slow defense contractors that just aren&#8217;t getting it done.
JOHN: You brought up JD Vance, and I wanted to ask you about that last actually. He is now the official vice presidential pick. Do you agree that this is a good choice for the president?
MIKE: This is going to sound like some kind of platitude. I truly thought the entire slate was fantastic. It really did kind of highlight the Republican bench and that next round of leaders. I think JD is a very strong pick. I think getting him on the road, getting him to some big 10 football games in the rust belt he embodies. I just introduced the Republican party platform to the floor as the co-chair of the platform committee and it was geared towards the forgotten man and woman. His story is that. He embodies that. But I also think he brings that tech experience, that business experience, private equity. And he&#8217;s a bit of an outsider, which is in line with President Trump. I also like the fact that he has been very strong. If you look at the legislation he&#8217;s gotten behind in regards to China and is very strong on holding our allies like NATO accountable. The VP has to fully align with the president&#8217;s vision and I think J. D. does that.
JOHN: Speaking of the Republican Party platform, there’s been some criticism from some pro-life conservatives. I wanted to give you a chance to talk about it. Do you feel like it&#8217;s a strong platform? Do you feel like you guys have presented something that&#8217;s going to really make a difference in the coming years?
MIKE: Yes, I understand the concerns, but at the end of the day it&#8217;s just indisputable that you have not had a president that has done more to protect the unborn, that has done more for the pro-life community than Donald Trump. We wouldn&#8217;t even be having this conversation if he hadn&#8217;t stood by Neil Gorsuch, if he hadn&#8217;t stood by Amy Coney Barrett despite everything thrown at him and gotten three Supreme Court justices. Fantastic picks, by the way, all three of them. So, look, at the end of the day, he feels very strongly, and I certainly support him, that what Roe did was return the issue to the voters and not legislate from the bench, and the voters in the states are working through the issue. Vote for your state legislators, vote for your governors. I think we&#8217;re going to have the challenge throughout this campaign in showing the extreme position on the other side — when is abortion not okay? That’s what we should be asking the Left over and over again. When does life begin in your world? The day before birth? The month before? Three months before? Reframe the argument. This is about life and what legal and constitutional protections they deserve.
JOHN: Congressman, thank you so much for joining us.

Well, the RNC is over! And I think we’ve seen just about enough of what the Republican party has been reduced to under the so-called leadership of Donald Trump. It’s time for America to choose. Do we want a courageous leader like Joe Biden, who when he falls down, gets back up — whether he falls down going up a flight of stairs or trying to go up the flight of stairs again or even just walking across a room — he gets back up as many times as it takes to cross that room.
Or do we want to descend to the level of a man like Donald Trump who when he falls down — because, you know, he’s been shot in the head by a bullet from an AR-15 sniper rifle — sure, he gets back up, but then he spits the bullet out, and shakes his fist at death and shouts, “Fight, fight, fight,” which frankly is just divisive.
I, for one, was appalled by the RNC and its rampant display of Christian white nationalism, and Sikh white nationalism, and bi-racial rapper woman white nationalism, and even black white nationalism from people like Tim Scott who has so internalized white supremacy that he expects to be treated just like everybody else. It’s disgusting.
And then there was Vivek Ramaswamy — and who even knows what the hell color he is with a name like that. It must be seven syllables at least, the guy could be purple for all we know. And this Rama whatever-his-name-is had the gall to stand up at the RNC and say that Americans should be able to disagree with one another openly and then still treat each other with respect, which is against everything the Democrat party stands for. Democrats understand that here in America, people are free to disagree with us, then be called racist, then be banned from YouTube and other social media, then be summoned to HR, fired from their jobs, and have their homes raided in the early morning hours by armed federal agents so they can be charged with any crime we can drum up, then spend the rest of their lives being harassed by screeching men with pink hair, face piercings and tattoos, who are taking female hormones until they turn into screeching women with pink hair, face piercings and tattoos who are indistinguishable from all the other Democrat voters.
We will not allow some purple-faced Vivek Hamahooney to weaponize the First Amendment by using it to give a voice to people with other opinions than our own. That’s not who we are as Americans.

While Republicans were at the RNC, wearing silly cowboy hats and screaming belligerently about their radical MAGA agenda of cutting taxes and standing up to our enemies, our president Joe Biden was having a civilized conversation with NBC’s Lester Holt. And sure, we couldn’t understand what he was saying half the time either, but the point is, he was setting a good example by sitting right there in close proximity to an almost black man and condemning Donald Trump for saying there would be a bloodbath and there were good people on both sides of the Charlottesville riots. And it was incredibly inspiring to see how Lester Holt respected this president so much that he didn’t once interrupt him to point out that none of that was true, which is what we expect from journalists. Because as Democrats, we believe that, if you don’t nod with servile conformity while we’re lying to you, you ain’t black. Or whatever Lester Holt is, you ain’t that either. Basically, if you don’t nod with servile conformity while we’re lying to you, as far as we’re concerned, you ain’t a journalist at all, no matter what color you are.
So in conclusion, I am personally calling for four more years of Joe Biden, or whatever fraction of that time he’s got left. Because as President Biden himself said in his speech to the NAACP, “This country is gala-zeeben anyway to garoon the finchin fanchin booben deebee dobby.” And that’s exactly why President Biden will remain the Democrat candidate. Because we Democrats know that if you ever understand what we’re actually saying, we’re in deep trouble.

Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) tore into CNN senior fact-checker Daniel Dale over his on-air declaration that Waltz was wrong about the Biden administration leaning in to developing and building electric tanks for the U.S. Army.
Waltz made the comment during his speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC), where he talked about military strength and readiness and argued that under President Joe Biden — and under the thumb of the climate agenda — American military priorities were all wrong.
Dale responded by claiming that Waltz — a combat veteran and a Green Beret — was wrong about the Biden administration&#8217;s push to build electric tanks.
Waltz pushed back first in a post on X, sharing an article from Inside Defense with the comment, &#8220;&#8216;The Army intends to field all-electric tanks by 2050, a top service energy and environment official told Inside Defense.&#8217; You can retract your &#8216;fact-check&#8217; from TV last night on my speech.&#8221;

Waltz brought Dale into the conversation, prompting his interviewer to read back what he&#8217;d said about Biden &#8220;focusing on building electric tanks&#8221; and noting that it appeared to come from an Army climate strategy plan that mentioned going electric with tactical vehicles.
&#8220;Wrong,&#8221; Waltz cut him off, citing a Bloomberg report and testimony from the Secretary of the Army — along with a budget report indicating that funding was being set aside for development — and argued that Dale should sit down with some of the same people he had if he really wanted the facts.
The interviewer tried to object, saying that Dale would probably be happy to speak with anyone — but Waltz pointed out that he should have done so before he called into question the &#8220;credibility&#8221; of a sitting member of Congress on live television.
&#8220;Getting to the truth is a process,&#8221; the interviewer hedged.
Waltz made it clear that he was having none of it, adding, &#8220;But literally minutes after my speech, he&#8217;s telling the world I&#8217;m misleading. There&#8217;s no way he could review the Army&#8217;s budget, the research and development, the testimony that I personally received under oath – or how about just Google and get the facts?&#8221;

While the gender theorists fumble around trying to answer the “What is a Woman?” question, Sarah Huckabee Sanders answered it with a clarion call at the Republican National Convention. Her words were beautifully woven with the purpose of femininity.
First, she honored Trump. Second, she lifted the name of God. And third, she emphasized her greatest role as a mother. 
Dressed in a cherry red dress and exuding pride in her country, Sanders praised Trump as an example of courage under fire while reminding us he is a father of five and grandfather of ten. With confidence and dignity, she modeled wisdom for younger women, which is what mothers are supposed to do. Not only is Sanders America’s youngest governor and the first female to lead “the great state of Arkansas,” but she is also the first mother to have served as White House Press Secretary, where she fielded attacks from the Left with unflinching grace.
“America was safer under Donald Trump,” she announced at the RNC, reminding the world what is top-of-mind for women: our safety and security. “The Left doesn’t care about empowering women,” she stated plainly, “Biden and Harris can’t even tell you what a woman is.” That is the God-honest truth.
While researching the creation of woman over the past few years, I discovered that not only is being a “man” an action — laying down one’s life to lift the woman at his side — but being a woman is an action too. It is the exact action Huckabee took in May of this year when she signed biological sex into law, defying Biden’s rewriting of Title IX to advance radical gender ideology. The action of womanhood is to speak on behalf of the vulnerable and to course-correct mankind when we are headed in the wrong direction.

The word male in biblical Hebrew, zakar, means to remember who God is, what He says, and live it out. Men are responsible to carry the human family on their shoulders. Part of our purpose as women is to help them walk in that identity. While men lift us, women lift the home and family and stabilize mankind. Together, we pass on the ways of God to the next generation.
In her Executive Order to Protect Women and Girls, Huckabee achieved this purpose by revisiting the original meaning of Title IX: to protect women, not harm them. When Title IX was passed into law in 1972, it was a succinct 37 words. Biden’s unilateral rewriting of Title IX resulted in 459,804 nonsensical words that divorce human beings from biological reality and put women at risk. Sanders unapologetically declared, it “turns back the clock on women’s opportunities, erodes student privacy, threatens women’s sports, and erases women,” which we can’t ignore. 
With unflinching accuracy, she called Biden on the carpet, saying it is “plainly ridiculous” for men to compete in women’s sports, receive access to women’s and girls’ locker rooms and private spaces, and snap away our scholarships. She lambasted this administration for rejecting reality and appeasing their Left-wing base over student’s safety. 
“The government should celebrate, not erase, sex differences by providing proper protections for them,” she said, plain and simple–while making it illegal in Arkansas to force the use of inaccurate pronouns. She re-established “male and female” as the one and only definition of sex in her state. It’s refreshing and simple. The result of her measure? Girls in Arkansas don’t have to compete against boys. Their sports are safe; their locker rooms are safe; and their scholarships are safe. In Arkansas, political ideology doesn’t define sex; God does. Boom. That’s a woman for you.

Real women know we are worthy of protection. Real women honor God, men, and children. And real women speak up when it matters.
The question remains why every Right-thinking governor in the United States hasn’t followed her wise example. What would happen if strong mothers and fathers stood united as a dividing wall between children and gender ideology? What would happen? Our daughters would be safe; our sons’ bodies and minds would be preserved; and children would know they are our first priority.
In her speech to the RNC, Sanders lived up to the timeless definition of womanhood exhibited in Proverbs 8:2: “At the crossroads, she [wisdom] takes her stand.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are not called to stand still in the face of great danger. You and I were put on this earth at a moment in time to charge boldly ahead,” Sanders said. I hope all women will follow her example. If they do, Matthew Arnold’s words will be fulfilled: “If there ever comes a time when the women of the world come together purely and simply for the benefit of mankind, it will be a force such as the world has never known.”
What is a woman? We are daughters, wives, mothers, sisters, and grandmothers. We value strong, sacrificial fathers and raise warrior sons. We protect our daughters no matter the cost. And when the world is headed in the wrong direction, we stand up — maybe even wearing a beautiful red dress — and embrace the power of the feminine voice.
Let’s not forget that in the Book of Proverbs, Wisdom is a She.

President Joe Biden released a statement on Friday indicating that he has no plans of dropping out of the presidential race as calls for him to do so continue to mount from members of his own party.
Biden issued a statement through his campaign where he attacked former President Donald Trump over his speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, claiming &#8220;for over 90 minutes, he focused on his own grievances, with no plan to unite us and no plan to make life better for working people.&#8221;
The 81-year-old made false claims about Trump&#8217;s policy platform and falsely claimed that Trump &#8220;destroyed our economy once and will inflict pain on the middle class&#8221; and that he &#8220;wants to gut the checks and balances of our Constitution and rule as a dictator on day one.&#8221;
&#8220;Together, as a party and as a country, we can and will defeat him at the ballot box,&#8221; Biden said. &#8220;I look forward to getting back on the campaign trail next week to continue exposing the threat of Donald Trump&#8217;s Project 2025 agenda while making the case for my own record and the vision that I have for America: one where we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms, and create opportunity for everyone.&#8221;
Dozens of elected Democrats have called on Biden to drop out the race following his disastrous debate performance against Trump late last month where he showed obvious signs of cognitive impairment.
Even as top Democrat figures have at least privately warned Biden that he needs to drop out or face dragging the entire party down with him this fall, those close to Biden are remaining defiant.
Biden Campaign Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said this morning: “You have heard from the President directly time and again: He is in this race to win, and he is our nominee, and he&#8217;s going to be our President for a second term.”

Last night, less than a week after an assassin nearly ended his life, Donald Trump delivered a marathon acceptance speech to close out the Republican convention.
It began with a riveting description of his experience on Saturday. That section of the speech was, I think we can say with confidence, the most compelling thing to ever happen during a speech at a political convention.
Trump seemed like himself, but also like a different man. He was clearly grateful to God that he&#8217;s still with us, and he seemed to relish every moment he had with the crowd. That could explain why, at 92 minutes, Trump&#8217;s speech was the longest nomination acceptance speech in the history of this country. He even pointed to the same immigration chart that helped save his life on Saturday, and he appeared to pick up right where he left off in Butler. The address was heartfelt. It was unifying, especially by the standards of a Trump speech. And it was yet more bad news for Democrats hoping to win any contested election in November, anywhere on the ballot.
Donald Trump is a nominee who enjoys, without question, the support of a unified party and tens of millions of devoted supporters all over the country.
The same obviously cannot be said for the man who is (at least for now) running against Donald Trump. At this point, the contrast between the two candidates is as clear as it could possibly be. Joe Biden is not compos mentis. He&#8217;s not humbled, nor has he ever been humble. He doesn&#8217;t have the support of his own party or his longtime friends and allies. Everyone from George Clooney to Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama have knifed him in the back. And now, according to the New York Times and various other outlets across the political spectrum, Biden&#8217;s finally considering dropping out of the race.
Newsmax&#8217;s Mark Halperin has gone further with his reporting, claiming that Biden has already made the decision to step aside. Watch:

This is obviously a fast-moving situation, and it&#8217;s quite possible that, any moment now, Joe Biden will announce he&#8217;s stepping aside. Then again, it&#8217;s possible that all of these reports are planted by Barack Obama&#8217;s team, to further pressure Biden to quit the race. In either event, it&#8217;s a humiliating situation for Joe Biden and his inner circle of advisers, which now consists of an openly corrupt crackhead and a narcissistic fake doctor with an education degree.
All this is to say, it&#8217;s still technically conceivable that Joe Biden — without any support from his own voters or colleagues, and without any money from donors — will somehow power through this dementia and cobble together a presidential run. That campaign would be like watching the Hindenburg in slow motion. It&#8217;s not especially likely at the moment but the possibility is there, at least for now.
All of this drama is unprecedented in modern politics. Nevertheless, it&#8217;s important to understand one point about this palace intrigue: None of it is about the fact that Joe Biden is old and senile. That&#8217;s the claim you&#8217;re hearing, but it&#8217;s not true. The premise is false. Democrats aren&#8217;t calling on Joe Biden to step aside because they just discovered that he&#8217;s demented. They&#8217;ve known it all along, and so has the media. They were perfectly ready and willing to install Joe Biden for another four years, knowing very well that he cannot do the job. 
The only thing that&#8217;s changed is public awareness of the extent of Biden&#8217;s mental decline — something that should have been obvious to the public all along. But it wasn&#8217;t obvious to everyone, because Democrats went to great lengths to obscure information about Biden&#8217;s mental status from voters. The self-described &#8220;defenders of democracy&#8221; took it upon themselves to lie and deceive the electorate so they could keep their puppet in power. But the debate revealed everything they&#8217;d been trying to hide. And Donald Trump, by the grace of God, was not assassinated last weekend.

So here we are. Democrats have no choice but to turn on Biden. They&#8217;re engaging in a historic effort — post-primary season but pre-convention — to oust their party&#8217;s democratically chosen candidate from their ticket. If this effort succeeds, it&#8217;ll set quite a precedent for the Democrats. It&#8217;ll mean that winning the Democratic presidential primary comes with an asterisk — which is that the voters&#8217; decision doesn&#8217;t really matter. The party elites can remove you at any time they like. This is what they&#8217;re going for. And they&#8217;re all-in at this point. Pretty much every significant politician in the party has made it clear that they want Biden gone.
At the same time, Democrats also appear to be trying to cover-up the extent to which they lied about Biden&#8217;s senility for the past several years. They&#8217;re doing it quietly but very aggressively. As Trump was speaking last night in Milwaukee, Joe Biden&#8217;s DOJ filed a motion in court to <a href="https://x.com/kyledcheney/status/1814133785669062678" target="_blank" rel="noopener">oppose</a> the public release of audio tapes of Biden&#8217;s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur. That interview, you may remember, involved Joe Biden repeatedly forgetting key biographical details about his own life, including the year his son died. It was an interview that went so poorly that Hur decided Joe Biden was effectively incapable of being prosecuted, because the jury would sympathize with his senility. 
But as Trump delivered his acceptance speech at the RNC, the DOJ claimed that the audio of that interview can&#8217;t be released due to, &#8220;pending investigations and reasonably anticipated future investigations.&#8221; But that doesn&#8217;t make sense. The transcript is already available. Hur has already testified about his interview with Biden. And the audio is clearly newsworthy and relevant to the public interest, because it would show the extent of the mental decline of the president of the United States. 
The only conceivable reason to hide the audio from the public at this point is if it&#8217;s different from the transcript that the DOJ released. That would make sense. Did the DOJ sanitize the transcript in any way? Does the audio contain damning evidence of Joe Biden&#8217;s mental decline that hasn&#8217;t been revealed publicly yet? Those are fair questions. And at this hour, the DOJ is doing everything it can to avoid answering them. At this point, it&#8217;s fair to conclude that they&#8217;re not simply covering up Joe Biden&#8217;s senility. They&#8217;re covering up their role in covering up Joe Biden&#8217;s senility, too. The cover up is worse than the crime, as they say. So what about the cover up of the cover up? 
You might remember that, just a few months ago, Adam Schiff — who has now publicly called on Biden to step aside — grilled Robert Hur about his comments in his report about Joe Biden&#8217;s obvious cognitive failures. Schiff suggested that Hur had completely made up his observations about Biden because he wanted to hurt Biden politically. Watch:

Now, just a few months later, Schiff admits that Joe Biden has major cognitive issues, and he needs to step aside. But of course, nothing changed with Joe Biden in the past few months. Adam Schiff knew during that hearing that everything Hur said in his report was accurate. He was just hoping to deceive the electorate for long enough to keep the Democrats&#8217; puppet in office. But we&#8217;re still not allowed to listen to the audio of Biden&#8217;s interview with Hur, probably because that would be even worse for Biden than the transcript. So the cover-up continues. Even as Democrats admit what we knew all along, they&#8217;re still hiding information from us.
But there&#8217;s some tape that Democrats can&#8217;t hide, because it&#8217;s all over the internet. For months, Democrats told us that Joe Biden was fine, and that only Right-wing propaganda outlets would claim otherwise. Here&#8217;s one of my favorite before-and-after videos, showing MSNBC&#8217;s Nicolle Wallace pre-debate and post-debate. She begins by saying it&#8217;s a &#8220;cheap fake&#8221; to say that Joe Biden was lost on stage at a fundraiser, even though the video clearly shows that he was frozen until Barack Obama led him away. (This was the fundraiser that George Clooney attended, and said Biden was visibly shot for the whole night). Then, post-debate, she&#8217;s talking ominously about how Joe Biden has lost the support of his party. Watch:

In the span of about a week, videos of Joe Biden&#8217;s decline went from an &#8220;insidious trend&#8221; to something Democrats couldn&#8217;t deny anymore. This is the kind of whiplash you get if you watch MSNBC. But the fact that Democrat Party propagandists even tried to deceive their viewers like this in the first place tells you everything you need to know about their views on &#8220;democracy.&#8221; They don&#8217;t believe the voters have a right to know anything. They will lie to their faces, again and again, with no shame whatsoever. Not a single Democrat politician or media personality has apologized for lying, deliberately, about Joe Biden&#8217;s incompetence for the past few years.
Nancy Pelosi, who&#8217;s now pressuring Biden to step aside, certainly hasn&#8217;t apologized, nor is she capable of doing so. Pelosi was telling us just a year ago that Joe Biden&#8217;s age was irrelevant, and that he&#8217;s youthful like a &#8220;kid&#8221;. Watch:

Nancy Pelosi was saying Joe Biden is “just a kid&#8221; to her at 80-years-old, because she&#8217;s three years older than he is. The problem is that people&#8217;s brains don&#8217;t all age the same way. Some people develop dementia by the age of 80, and some people don&#8217;t. And Nancy Pelosi knew, when she gave that interview, that Joe Biden had developed dementia. But laughed it off, and so did Joe Scarborough. Now both of them have the new memo, and they&#8217;re saying the exact opposite.
And speaking of Scarborough, his about-face is actually one of the more striking ones. I&#8217;ve played some of these videos before, but it&#8217;s worth repeating because of how over-the-top it was. Four months ago, Scarborough was saying that Biden is “sharper than he&#8217;s ever been.” Even after the debate, Scarborough was defending Biden. Now he&#8217;s saying he has to go. Here&#8217;s the before and after:

Whether it&#8217;s Joe Scarborough or Nancy Pelosi or Adam Schiff or the DOJ, all of these people know exactly what they&#8217;re doing. They engaged in a concerted effort to hide Joe Biden&#8217;s dementia, and now they&#8217;re pretending it&#8217;s a major issue — but only because they can&#8217;t deny it anymore.
This is a cover-up that reveals exactly how much the self-appointed defenders of democracy really care about “democracy,” and this country. They were planning to launch us headlong into a constitutional crisis with a late-stage dementia patient starting a fresh four-year term. This is the same party that rigged a primary against Bernie Sanders, and that prevented anyone from debating Joe Biden ahead of the primaries this year. They have no interest in democracy. They don&#8217;t care what voters want.

Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley sits down with California mom Anne Fundner who brought the tens of thousands of attendees at the Republican National Convention to tears and to their feet on the night of July 16 when she told the tragic story of losing her 15-year-old son Weston to fentanyl. The blame for his death, she said, ultimately falls on President Biden and his administration. 
“I hold Joe Biden, Kamala Harris — the “Border Czar,” what a joke — and Gavin Newsom and every Democrat who supports open borders responsible for the death of my son,” said Fundner.

JOHN: Joining us now is Anne Fundner, a mother from California who lost her 15-year-old son to fentanyl and who is putting the blame on President Biden and his administration and the governor of her state, Gavin Newsom. Anne, thank you so much for joining us. You courageously took the stage at the RNC, gave a very powerful, emotional statement about your son and your family and the tragedy you guys suffered. I know it&#8217;s difficult to discuss, but can you tell us about what happened to your son, Weston?
ANNE: Well, Weston was a really good kid. We did everything right. We put him in sports and I was room mom. We had such a great relationship. He was my perfect little bouncing baby boy. He taught me what love was, an unconditional love like I had never known existed other than my own parents. He was my firstborn son, it just teaches you that love is so strong. And for the first time I understood what that meant when I looked at him and held him in my arms. He was my everything. He really was. I was so active in his life, his father was active, both of us. We did the family dinners every night, we had outings together, and fun vacations. We had a nice life. Private school. I think of things like we got him braces. He just had braces. Just everything that you do to set somebody up for the perfect life — 3.5 GPA; football, hockey, friends, you know. And fentanyl still found him because kids fall into peer pressure. And, as many conversations as I had with him, he was a teenager who came into his own independence and decided he wanted to fit in with a new crowd at a new school. He had always gone to private school. He wanted to try public school, too. And I think he just wanted these friends who were just fun. I guess he fell into peer pressure and it got a hold of him and it killed my son.

JOHN: You made a striking statement last night. You said, “Look, this is murder.” Can you unpack that for us? Why do you feel that way?
ANNE: Because the people who deal these drugs know that fentanyl kills. When you try fentanyl one time, it is not a question of if you are going to die, it&#8217;s when. Once you try it, it is very hard to get off of it and never do it again. These drug dealers are like sexual predators. They groom children. They know that if they can get a child to try it once, within three hours they&#8217;re going to get withdrawal symptoms that range from bone aches to fevers to cold sweats to bowel issues to headaches — things that make chemotherapy recovery look like a picnic in the park. It&#8217;s a very, very difficult thing on the body. Within two or three hours of the first time of trying it — one time. It&#8217;s 50 times more addictive than crack and these drug dealers know that, and that&#8217;s when they come around and say, “I got what you need to kind of ease this pain.” So if the child survives the first pill, now the drug dealer has a client. And everyone asks, “Why would they want to, like, kill their client?” Because it&#8217;s so addictive, they&#8217;re gonna have business. If they can get someone to try it one time, they&#8217;re gonna have business. So most kids don&#8217;t live more than a couple weeks. When I say it&#8217;s a groomer mentality, they know they can&#8217;t tell their parents. They&#8217;ve gotten them to do something wrong. They&#8217;re afraid. They&#8217;re struggling with an addiction that they never wanted just because they tried something one time — and by the way, they don&#8217;t know they&#8217;re trying fentanyl. They think they&#8217;re trying something like a Percocet or Xanax which are very popular, unfortunately, with kids these days, as a party drug. And it&#8217;s pure fentanyl. There&#8217;s no Xanax. It&#8217;s a pressed pill with blue powder that you can buy off of Amazon or someone who&#8217;s probably on drugs themselves is packing these pills. It&#8217;s like a chocolate chip cookie. There&#8217;s all these little chocolate chips of fentanyl in it, and you don&#8217;t know which side of the cookie is going to have the most fentanyl. If you get that dose, seven out of ten pills are deadly.
JOHN: And for you, were there any warning signs?
ANNE: No. My son was a really good kid. All kids, when they start walking in a high school situation, you want to make sure they&#8217;re making the best choice. We had conversations, you know, hey, that was really not a good choice the other night. But for the most part, nothing that I thought was concerning enough. I&#8217;ll tell you what, I don&#8217;t know if I was just blind or I just never imagined in a million years this would happen.

JOHN: I&#8217;ve got two young girls. The most terrifying thing to me is this sense that you cannot see this coming. And how sudden this is, and it really struck me when you spoke – that sense, it strikes terror in every parent. Now, you&#8217;ve blamed two administrations, the Biden administration and the Newsom administration for this tragedy. Can you tell us why?
ANNE: Because President Trump had the factories in China closed that produced the precursor chemicals. He had the borders secured as well as he could without some of the Democrat border cities putting a stop to their border walls. But for the most part, he did as much as he could to get that border wall secured. He had ICE. He had everything on lockdown at the border. He was doing everything he could to stop it. Now, there were Democrats that were doing their Democrat thing and not following along with what they&#8217;re supposed to be doing, so fentanyl still got over the border, but he was stopping it. I mean, he really was coming down on this hard and President Xi knew he meant business and he knew that he couldn&#8217;t get away with things with Trump. So when President Biden came in, the border&#8217;s just opened. You saw caravans flooding over. We don&#8217;t even know who these people are coming into our country. The cartels have just run wild. He allowed those China factories to be reopened under the Biden administration. I mean, this is their exasperated tragedy. They did this. There is no way to look around this. They opened the borders. They do nothing, nothing to stop this crisis at all. They did more to stop you from taking ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine during COVID than they are doing to stop people from coming in with fentanyl. And Gavin Newsom, he should be ashamed. He has children, young ones. And California is the wild, wild west. They will find a car of fentanyl, someone drug-running fentanyl, and they arrest them, the judge lets them out and says, “Come back in two weeks.” And how many people do you think come back? These people should be tried for attempted murder. They should. If they kill someone, they should go to jail for life. And look at what Sarah Huckabee Sanders did. She said, “And if you kill a child, you&#8217;re looking at the death penalty.” When you get strict penalties on this, you will see the fentanyl statistics drop dramatically because drug dealers do not want to go to jail and be sentenced to life. My son&#8217;s case was clear cut, on video. They knew who it was, he was the second person this person had murdered — and nothing, not even a slap on the wrist. Nothing happened. And if they&#8217;re not going to prosecute people, then why…? It doesn&#8217;t make sense. It&#8217;s almost like they want this to happen. Our youth have so many challenges, lots of indoctrination going on. It&#8217;s just one more thing they&#8217;re doing to hurt us and bring down our youth.

JOHN: It&#8217;s not only hard to hear the tragedy, it is very hard to hear that there&#8217;s no accountability, that there are actually no repercussions for these horrific crimes, as you&#8217;ve described. What can be done to reverse this?
ANNE: Close the borders, number one. Shut the borders. Let&#8217;s increase our ICE officers because they&#8217;re no resources there. Biden has just done a number on ICE. He took away the fentanyl machines that were at the ports of entry, which is a secondary kind of precaution. Because drug dealers don&#8217;t go through the front door, right? He did put some of those back in this weak fentanyl bill. That&#8217;s all he did in the fentanyl bill. But he did give money to Ukraine in that bill — and that&#8217;s really what that bill was about. It was such a weak bill, it was embarrassing. The cartels need to be labeled foreign terrorist organizations. This is a war on American soil and more people are dying than from all of our recent wars combined. On American soil. On 9/11 we attacked a country because they killed 3,000 people on American soil. Where is the attack on the cartels? They are killing our children. And why aren&#8217;t we holding China accountable? Shut those factories again. Fentanyl needs to be considered a weapon of mass destruction. And every community needs harsh, strict laws. You want to deal fentanyl? You&#8217;re going to jail. Period. Zero tolerance whatsoever. You&#8217;re going to jail. And if you kill someone, you&#8217;re going to jail for life or looking at the death penalty. And if you kill a child, you will look at the death penalty. These people know what they&#8217;re doing. They know what they&#8217;re doing. And they&#8217;re still pushing it on our children. They don&#8217;t care about your kids. They don&#8217;t care if they die. These pills come to your door for $7.50. Through Snapchat, through Instagram. They are ordering them online. Underneath your doorstep, leave $7.50 and they&#8217;ll come straight to you. They know they have an income. They have so many clients. And they&#8217;re all expendable. And there&#8217;s more behind them.
JOHN: As you have made clear, this is a true crisis. Something has to change. Thank you so much for sharing your personal tragedy so that some action can be taken. Thank you for joining us.

UFC President Dana White spoke about his friendship with former President Donald Trump on Thursday night during his speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
White said he received a call from Trump two weeks ago asking if he would be willing to speak at the event and that the former president was concerned about interrupting the time White spent with his family.
&#8220;He&#8217;s fighting for the future of this country and he&#8217;s concerned about interrupting my family trip. That&#8217;s the President Trump that I know. A man who truly cares about people,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The mainstream media likes to push the narrative that he doesn&#8217;t care about anyone but himself. I absolutely know that&#8217;s not the truth because I&#8217;ve been friends with this guy for 25 years. And for the people who know me, they&#8217;ll know this is true.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m in the tough guy business and this man is the toughest, most resilient human being that I&#8217;ve ever met in my life,&#8221; he later added. &#8220;The higher the stakes, the harder he fights and this guy never ever gives up. So what&#8217;s at stake here? The answer is in President Trump&#8217;s text and I quote &#8216;a fight for our country&#8217;.&#8221;
White said that Trump &#8220;is a proven leader, a fearless leader, and this country was in a much better place when he was in the Oval Office.&#8221;
He also called Trump &#8220;a real American bad*ss,&#8221; which comes just days after Trump was shot during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania.

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday night accepted the Republican nomination for president for the third time in a keynote speech that set a record for the Republican National Convention (RNC).
Trump’s address effectively signaled the end of the four-day convention that officially settled the GOP presidential ticket. The former president <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/live-blog/rnc-trump-republican-convention-live-updates-rcna161245/rcrd47080?canonicalCard=true" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spoke</a> for more than 90 minutes in a broad-ranging address that began with him recounting his near-assassination at his campaign rally on Saturday. At the end of his speech, Trump was joined on stage by his wife, Melania, and the Trump family.

During his speech, Trump honored Corey Comperatore, a retired firefighter who died on Saturday shielding his wife and daughter during the assassination attempt against Trump.

One of the key themes throughout the speech was unity and a promise to represent every American, whether Trump received their votes or not.
